Hartford acquires Brennan’s UFL rights

Former UH quarterback Colt Brennan confirmed that the Hartford Colonials have acquired his United Football League rights.

Hartford’s head coach is Jerry Glanville, a former UH defensive coordinator. Brennan and Glanville were together at UH during Brennan’s sophomore and junior seasons in 2005 and 2006.

Brennan said he has not signed a contract nor reached an agreement with the Colonials. An NFL offer made before July 11 would supersede the UFL rights; the NFL, currently in a lockout, cannot make free-agent offers until a labor settlement is reached.

But Brennan said he is grateful Glanville secured his UFL rights, and, if given the opportunity, would be “happy to play for him.”

With the NFL draft 10 days away, a couple of former Warriors are starting to attract attention.

Wideout Rodney Bradley said he has been contacted by 10 teams. He recently had a workout with the Dallas Cowboys.

And safety Mana Silva just had a private workout with the Oakland Raiders. He has a workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars tomorrow. The Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens also have expressed interest.

Leo Goeas, a former Warrior who played in the NFL, will be an offensive line coach for Saint Louis School this season. Goeas recently moved back to Hawaii after living several years in Colorado. He still is a certified NFL agent, and is representing Laupepa Letuli this year.

Happy birthday to Len Scaduto, the master of the 2-3 zone defense.

And birthday wishes to Glendalyn Junio, a terrific writer who is spreading the aloha spirit to the East Coast.

sounds like al davis really likes mana silva. his getting feelers by other franchises may give his suitors a bit of sense of urgency to pick him sooner.

i have this feeling that salas will also benefit by this and begot no later than middle third round.

alex green could very well be the first warrior drafted. that would not be a surprise to me.

  3. al April 18, 2011 12:41 am

curt…there’s a namar like guy who decommitted and is looking for a team…er, college.

not expecting any signings for a week or two. it is hoped that at least two potential warriors will come visiting in a week or so.

well, not unless the holy grail of roundball walks into the gibber’s office.

it is very interesting that the nfl is showing greater interest in da warriors and would like to thank those who preceded them to the nfl. our present and future warriors know that playing for uh and being invited to play at the next level is just as good as any other school. with green and salas leading the way in this year’s draft, this can only help the nfl future for da warriors.

Does anyone know what round Bess was projected

  15. Kevin April 18, 2011 4:27 am

When he declared (and pre-combine) they were thinking 2nd-3rd round. Then he ran the 4.65 forty at the combine and he went un-drafted.

Note they also told RGM he’d be a 3rd-5th round pick and he declared and he didn’t even get drafted after a very solid pro day.

So I would be careful to put stock in those evaluations…. though in Bess’ case they couldn’t have known he’d run such a slow forty.

rage777 (#41)…dat’ a good question. Leo would have to be extra careful, but I wouldn’t doubt that his agent training covers stuff like that. However, there are still questions like, “what if the hs young man was his nephew or neighbor?”

  50. tommui April 18, 2011 11:14 am

That is why I tell my clients not to post on Facebook.

There are too many crazies out there and it is a great source to create trouble or find out all kinds of information that can be totally detrimental, not to mention identity thiefs.

Prime example – the wahine who was collecting alimony because she was “disabled”. She posted on her facebook that she was belly dancing at various gigs. Court took a look at that and promptly reduced the alimony by about 50% and she had to pay attys fees and returned x amount of dollars.

  51. kev-1 April 18, 2011 12:02 pm

Good Luck Colt! Hope it works out for you.

  53. Buffoman April 18, 2011 12:57 pm

#15 Kevin, and to complete the statement…and no one told them but the ‘Fin knew that a slow time does not equate to great hand, terrific work habits, desire, compatability and overall team offensive production.

To know the person is at time better than, the tangibles (height, speed, what BCS college he attended, how ESPN disrespected him in the draft, etc.)

That being said, I believe Kevin is correct to point out why the ‘Fins got a steal and someone else might just do so with one of our other boys preparing for the draft.

    #50,

you reap what you sow…facebook doesn’t give away personal, confidential or potentially embarrassing information. you have to empower it by being brave or dumb enough to put it on there.

a little common sense when using these social network sites go a very very very very long way.

there are also ways to set your privacy in your account to limit or totally block people from seeing your info.

  60. RedZone April 18, 2011 1:32 pm

    bik,

#65: I agree about free speech. But still, I’m surprised how many bloggers are so negative and willing to just slam Colt…mainly on other boards but sometimes here. I’d also like to see him bust his okole, rise from the ashes, fire thunderbolts downfield, and wreak havoc across the land. Then, J. David Miller complete the final chapter of his book, Warrior Football, A Story of Faith, Hope, and Redemption.

  70. iwonderwhytheyhateme April 18, 2011 3:37 pm

Criticisms and Praise aren’t worth more than the paper its written on.

Its what you actually do that counts. Colt can go out and prove us wrong or right…that is if he even gives a crap about what everyone else thinks or says.

Pardon my ignorance but do these even televise UFL?…I’ve never seen a game nor do I know where to look to watch one.

Looks like Hawaii Five-O will be filming in Hawaii for many more years. TNT will be paying $2.4 mil per episode, starting to show the episodes in 2014. That pretty much guarantees that Hawaii Five-O will be profitable and they will continue to make new episodes for many years. The $2.4 mil per show is in addition to whatever the original episodes and repeats make on CBS and shows a lot of faith in the show since they will pay that even if the show goes downhill in the ratings:

    http://www.adweek.com/news/television/hawaii-five-o-episodes-will-run-tnt-130647

  74. Garret April 18, 2011 4:06 pm

I kind of hand a feeling that Glanville would be trying to get Colt to be his QB when JJ had Colt throw to RGM in front of Glanville. RGM also doesn’t have a guaranteed spot anywhere, so this might give him an option also.

Colt needs to play somewhere NOW for his career to have any chance before he’s too old to get his first start. Every CFL team has an established starter and sometimes both their #1 and #2 QBs are set. Glanville taking over a team means that there is no established starter. Choosing a team that gives him a chance to play is the most important thing for Colt if he wants a future as a QB.

  75. Da Punchbowl Kid April 18, 2011 4:08 pm

As usual Garret, you are spot on. Colt needs to play now.

  76. Da Punchbowl Kid April 18, 2011 4:08 pm

    Where have you been btw?

  77. Garret April 18, 2011 4:08 pm

Classic way for a top-rated recruit to ruin his career and future prospects…

Deion Bonner, Marquise Hawkins and an unidentified juvenile from Columbus were arrested by UGA police and charged with theft by taking over the weekend. They’re accused of stealing iPods and iPhones from the unsecured lockers of seven football players on April 7 during an open-house event at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. The estimated value of the stolen items was $1,970.

Rivals lists him as one of its top-250 prospects to watch in its earliest ranking of the class of 2012, and he was one of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s “Tentative Top 10” recruits in the state; he already holds official offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami and USC, for starters.

    DPK,

My kids were on Spring Break last week. We had a hotel room (free, thanks to work) right across from the Redondo Beach Pier for 4 days, a hotel stay in Anaheim (free, thanks to the hotel points I’ve earned lately with all my business travel) to see Disneyland, and lots of other stuff.

  79. Garret April 18, 2011 4:13 pm

    DPK,

Colt is 28 already and looking for his first pro football start. He cannot sit on the bench in the CFL, no NFL team will give him a shot to play until he gets some game tape elsewhere now (plus there may be a lockout), so JJ/Glanville have come up with his *only* option to play.

How many other teams will go after a 28-year-old QB who hasn’t started for years and is coming off 2 surgeries and then a catastrophic auto accident?

  80. Garret April 18, 2011 4:14 pm

This is from my free play link blog–giving the info Tom Mui referred to above.

NY City woman was getting $850/month in alimony because she was supposedly disabled and unable to work, but her ex-husband found out from her blog that she was belly dancing for several hours every day. The judge reduced her alimony payments by more than half (down to $400/month), made her pay her ex-husband’s legal fees, and made her give him 60% of the proceeds from the sale of their home:

Following the Warrior Bowl our D is busily steaming ahead towards the summer training cycle with a deserved smirk on their face. On Friday night, they did what many great teams could not–they turned off the lights–at least for a offensive-system with a prolific past.

However, our offense still leaves many questions unanswered. Im talking about our marquee star-studded skilled players, la crème de la crème, the receivers.

This is a unit that more often than others crosses the goal and scores–and often.

We are in need of three to step-up as replacements to three seniors that carried team 2010.

Any fan who witnessed last Fridays scrim can reel-off a few names and not all of them are the frontrunners: Cecil Doe, Allen Sampson, Sampson Anquay and Justin Clapp come quickly to mind. They may not be the popularized creme advanced off of freshly minted depth charts but they certainly have the assests to be gamebreakers, precisely the final component you add to timing and chemistry.

Dont forget too, the summer arrivals, including a frosh curiousily named Promise and Chris Gant, a record-setting JUCO transfer.

Mouse and Rolo have their work product in front of them. and a talented field from which to select. Hopefully, the cream from this unit, will rise to the top.

    Colt’s an adult.

He wants to prove he can play, and he’ll get his chance somewhere.

Some people rise to challenges, some don’t.

But there’s no sense criticizing him or praising him until he shows what he can do in this league, if that’s where he choose to go.

  85. BG April 18, 2011 4:39 pm

Garret, good to have you back! Re #79…after Colt becomes a success in the NFL and drives his team to a Super Bowl win, there will be all the material for a gripping drama-documentary on his life. Why not? Dream it and make it a reality.

Good thoughts for Lori and the kids!

  86. Kazz April 18, 2011 4:44 pm

    Amazing stats…

Parnaby, a sophomore from Bilgola Plateau, NSW, Australia, went 1-0 with a stellar 0.00 ERA in a 4-0 complete-game win over Louisiana Tech, she scattered four hits and tied her career high with 12 strikeouts. It was her fourth shutout and 13th complete game of the season.

Overall, Parnaby is 11-3 with a 0.99 ERA with just 22 walks while striking out 115. In conference action, Parnaby is 3-1 with an astonishing 0.51 ERA and two shut outs in five appearances.

Since 2010, the pitching staff for the Rainbow Wahine have been the envy of many NCAA Division I programs. While Kaia Parnaby wins this week’s WAC Pitcher of the Year honor, her teammate and fellow pitcher remains another steady and dominating force in the circle for the Rainbow Wahine. Junior Stephanie Ricketts currently is 18-10 with a ERA of 1.57 and 207 strikeouts. In conference play, Ricketts is 5-3 and boasts a fabulous ERA of 1.97 with 50 strikeouts.

NCAA Division I women’s fastpitch softball is a marathon and the Rainbow Wahine Softball program is blessed to have not just one, but two capable pitchers that could start for ANY Division I program in the country.

I give over 90% of my business to hawaiian air when leaving the state, but with the appearance of southwest on the horizon (alaska air), they may need to look at their bag charges to offset southwest fare structure. and who knows, southwest may even fly interisland to connect their departures. alaska has been very quiet, but building their flights in/out of hawaii and they could become another hurdle for hawaiian if they start servicing all their departures with interisalnd flights. ordering 30 737-800 series are not the planes southwest normally purchases for their mainland flights. this is the same plane that alaska uses for hawaii.

  88. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 4:44 pm

  90. whitey April 18, 2011 4:48 pm

kazz, i also like the way coach coolen is using other pitchers when he can. will be interesting to see if he can get another pitching recruit in the near future.

  91. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 4:57 pm

Maybe you guys discussed this already, but I wasn’t paying attention, so it’s new to me:

Because the WAC softball tournament was supposed to be in Ruston, the Rainbow Wahine booked the Hampton Inn — basically Ruston’s only hotel — for this past weekend’s road trip and the tourney. But then LaTech decided not to host the tourney. So UH called to cancel its hotel reservations in May. But the hotel mixed it up, and canceled this past weekend’s reservations. When UH got there, no rooms were available. Some players slept on the floor until rooms became available.

  92. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 5:00 pm

ST, that’s a terrible situation! I don’t normally curse, but I would curse then and there!

  94. whitey April 18, 2011 5:43 pm

ST, that is what they call “home field advantage”. If Benson had any balls, he would have called LaTech AD and told him that this is unexceptable. But knowing Benson, he just kept his mouth shut because LaTech is all he will have after this year.

  95. Ralph April 18, 2011 5:58 pm

what, people in Ruston don’t understand Hawaiian Creole! If they can understand Cajun, and themselves, they can understand pidgin.

  96. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:15 pm

    ST,

Heard about the inconvienece, but never heard about the details. If that’s Ruston’s only hotel, they cannot afford to make mistakes like that.

(Hey Ralph, put the pitchfork and torch down, it was the hotel’s fault.)

Funny thing about the WAC Tourney though, as we apparently lost our bid to host it as the WAC told UH that “well, you guys are already hosting the track and field WAC Championships”…

Well, we hosted it back in 2008, so I guess it’s too soon???

But thankfully it’s NOT in Ruston, although Fresno State is not a great neutral atmosphere either. But gives more chance for Hawaii folk and our extended Cali ohana to cheer on the Wahine.

BTW, for some detailed info on their road trip to Ruston, LA, junior outfielder Alex Aguirre was gracious enough to take some time to write a journal for the Na Wahine Softball Booster Club website. Visit http://www.nawahine.com.

  97. jm2375 April 18, 2011 6:21 pm

whitey – #90 – there’s at least one pitching recruit for the 2013 season – Keiki Carlos from MPI. GO OWLS!!!

    GO BOWS!!!

  98. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:22 pm

    Whitey,

With Jenna Rodriguez gone next season and Ricketts on borrowed time as a senior in 2012, he’s going to have to find one REAL soon.

The only signed player with pitching experience in high school is local recruit Leisha Liilii, but the transition from high school fastpitch pitching in Hawaii to D1 softball is tough. Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu and Sarah Robinson both had a difficult time getting their speed up to par amongst other things two years ago and it was apparent that both would not see time as starting pitchers or back-ups at UH.

Just not enough experience overall compared to their mainland counterparts that get to play WAY more games in MORE tournaments against the best competition in California, which is essentially the only real softball recruting pipeline in the country.

  99. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:24 pm

    JM,

She’s a verbal? I skimmed through the article when it was mentioned.

But yeah, all Hawaii-born pitchers have the game experience factor working against them. Not to say that they don’t have the physical skills, IQ for the game, or a passion for the game, it’s just that the mainland players get to play WAY more games than our local girls do and it’s hard to try to make that up.

Not saying “no can”, but “das y hard”.

  100. Curt April 18, 2011 6:24 pm

    al,

#72 Great. A 6’10” banger. Seems like Gib must be satisfied with Miles and Blakes at the pg position and may be going after the best available player…unless there’s another departure that we haven’t heard about yet.

  101. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:31 pm

For fun, would have been interesting if Coolen put in Kelly Majam to pitch during the fall.

Circumstances aside, it would have been interesting to see.

    No, it’s NOT a gimmick… (let’s take a trip back in time to November 21, 2007)

HONOLULU – University of Hawai`i head softball coach Bob Coolen announced today, the last day of the early signing period, that four athletes signed National Letters-of-Intent to play for the Rainbow Wahine in the spring of 2009. Two Californians, Kelly Majam and Stephanie Ricketts, join Kamehameha Schools product, Dara Pagaduan and Moanalua stand-out Sarah Robinson to form the softball team’s class of 2012.

Majam is an all-around athlete out of Mountain Empire High School in Pine Valley, Calif. who will help the Rainbow Wahine in many areas. The southpaw will be looked upon to fill the shoes of three-time all-Western Athletic Conference senior centerfielder, Kaulana Gould. She can hit in the the 1, 2 or 3 slot and is a power hitter with good bat control. As a pitcher, she is a tough competitor who throws in the 60 mph range with movement. Majam is projected to fill the role as a relief pitcher next spring with the departure of current senior pitcher Jessica Morton. Last season, Majam earned league Player and Pitcher of the Year honors while making the Division II first team. She also plays on the SoCAL Breakers club team, which is one of the Top 10 ASA Gold teams in the nation. Majam, who is also plays soccer, is a National Honors Society student who carries a 4.0 GPA.

Ricketts, a 6-0 right-handed pitcher/first baseman, comes to Hawai`i from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif. In 2007, she led the Monarchs to a conference title and an impressive 27-1 record. She hit .406 at the plate and was 5-0 on the mound with a phenomenal 0.00 ERA. Ricketts earned the Best Offensive Player award last season. As a member of the San Jose Sting’s 18-under Gold team, she hit .304 and had a record of 7-2 with a 1.60 ERA in 2007. She also plays on the perennial power house Mitty basketball team, which is one of the Top 10 programs in the nation.

Pagaduan will look to battle for a starting spot either as a middle infielder or at third base. At Kamehameha, she hit .436 in 2007 and earned league honorable mention honors at second base. In 2006, she was a first-team all-league selection and made the all-state second team as a third baseman. Pagaduan, who plays for the Pearls club team, will bring a lot of speed, enthusiasm and heart to the program. She also runs cross country and plays soccer for the Warriors.

Robinson, a highly-touted two-sport athlete, led Moanalua High School’s softball team to a league championship in 2007. She went 16-5 on the mound with a 1.00 ERA and hit .425 at the plate. Robinson was named the 2007 league Pitcher and Player of the Year and was voted to the all-state team as a pitcher. She’s been Na Menehune’s Most Outstanding Player every year since her freshman season. Robinson will challenge for a spot in the starting rotation and at first base. She, along with Pagaduan, also plays for the Pearls club team. Robinson just finished her prep volleyball career by winning the league title. She is the younger sister of current Rainbow Wahine senior All-American Kate Robinson.

“I’m really excited about this group of ‘blue-chip’ athletes who will help sustain the high-level of play that we have attained the last couple of seasons,” Coolen said.

I smile when I read this again.

Obviously all have contributed in starting positions for the program.

  102. duffer April 18, 2011 6:35 pm

    Hey whitey,

A little birdie told me the USDA is running out of money to fund ag inspections on the neighbor islands. If the carriers don’t pick up the tab, well……………

  103. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:40 pm

Nothing against Jason Kaneshiro, but see ST, don’t you miss covering softball?

You don’t get first hand accounts of stories like the great misadventures going to Ruston and Las Cruces aka “the s**ty trip” as one former UH men’s basketball staff member called it…

  104. Kazz April 18, 2011 6:46 pm

Hmmm… so… K-5 is doing the MPSF coverage at 4pm Hawaii time.

Just hope K-5 didn’t umm… forget their previous obligation to televise the double-header for Rainbow Wahine Softball against Boise State ALSO starting at 4pm.

Just throwing that out there… I understand it’s the playoffs and I do plan on DVR’ing it since I will be at softball, but I’m just saying.

Unless K-5 could give a crap since they are on the way out anyway and all too excited about the Merrie Monarch to fulfill their original obligations…

  105. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 7:37 pm

    Kazz:

Jason Kaneshiro is an excellent reporter and writer.

    He’s very diligent, too.

    I like his stuff.

  106. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 7:39 pm

Despite Bobby Curran’s awful drawl, Ruston is a nice place.

    The campus is beautiful.

And it’s not that isolated. it’s about a 15 minute drive from Grambling State. And it’s maybe 30 minutes away from Monroe.

Shreveport is probably a little more than an hour away.

  107. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 7:40 pm

What I like about Parnaby is she pitches quickly.

Get the ball, throw the ball.

  108. kawika49 April 18, 2011 7:54 pm

  112. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 8:00 pm

So, hey, while I’m wandering around UH today, the buzz is that another basketball prospect is in town for an unofficial visit.

    Who’s the guy?

  113. d1shima April 18, 2011 8:03 pm

Gotta wonder how much of a “surprise” Bo Barnes departure was…

  114. Curt April 18, 2011 8:16 pm

    ST,

If he’s 6’10”, he might be jc power forward Bryant Crowder who I believe al was referring to. If he’s 6’4″, it might be high school guard Anthony Odunsi.

  115. d1shima April 18, 2011 8:17 pm

    Curt,

How would one know the difference? 😆

  116. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 8:21 pm

Don’t know who it is. I just overheard a conversation while I was “wandering.”

    ST’s “wandering” = spying. 😆

  119. Curt April 18, 2011 8:24 pm

Here’s how you tell the difference:

    1. If u stand real close facing him and yo nose comes up to his belly button, it’s Odunsi.

    2. If yo nose comes to his knee cap, it’s Crowder.

    3. If yo nose pokes anywhere else, you’re probably KoaMahu.

  120. Curt April 18, 2011 8:26 pm

    d1shima,

    I’m just kidding u!

  121. whitey April 18, 2011 8:27 pm

  123. Curt April 18, 2011 8:30 pm

    d1shima,

This morning on the Bobby Curran show, Coach Gib said he was surprised by Bo Barnes’ departure.

  124. whitey April 18, 2011 8:30 pm

duffer, usda and tsa was just a duplication of labor at the airport and the only benefactor of the usda was the state of california ag industry. i get plenty friends at the airport, but hopefully they do ok if this happens.

  125. d1shima April 18, 2011 8:32 pm

    Curt,

I heard that. Just seems like Gib was able to setup some visits pretty quickly.

  126. Curt April 18, 2011 8:33 pm

    kawika49,

#122: No trick question. I was just having fun responding to d1shima’s question (#115) about how you can tell the basketball recruits apart.

HILARIOUS! I am 5’1″ tall so either guy would seem like a giant to me!

  129. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 9:35 pm

So did Bo Barnes leave for home already or is he finishing the semester?

Lots of guys get homesick, so I wouldn’t read anything more in his decision to leave. Maybe Gib was surprised by it.

  130. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 9:38 pm

With all the talk about Colt today, nothing has been mentioned about RGM’s chances with Glanville. All this time, I thought he already had a spot in the CFL, but I guess I was mistaken.

    GOOD LUCK TO RGM!

  131. Slugger April 18, 2011 9:38 pm

    Good luck, Colt!

    Yay, BaseBows!

  142. Curt April 18, 2011 10:10 pm

    Guy in the Office,

#135: Hmmm. Not good that Hawaii is not mentioned. Penn St and Butler apparently are tough competitors for Odunsi’s services.

  143. Curt April 18, 2011 10:14 pm

So if Odunsi has not yet visited Hawaii, then the visiting recruit might be 6’10” Bryant Crowder.

  144. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 10:14 pm

Wow, if he can get into Penn State, that would be great for him. Isn’t that a good school academically?

  145. al April 18, 2011 10:20 pm

curt…odunsi might be a no show.

that big guy was an early offer, so i don’t know if he is still interested.

some of our commits who have signed haven’t made the official trip, so it could be one of those guys.

now the gibber said a week ago he had 7 guys interested in the program…so who knows what lays ahead for that last scholie (or two).

seems like we could use a point guard. then again, having two combo guards ain’t so bad either. just maybe a kid like bobby miles gets over the freshman hijinx and plays up to it next year. it could be that gerry blakes steps in and takes control from the get go.

at this point, if we only have one scholie…then go for the best athlete out there. if it is a tossup between a 6’10” guy or a 6’2″…who do you pick at this point????

now if we have two scholies, then yah, go get the point guard. seems like we whiffed on a couple already, but, keep after it.

  146. gigi-hawaii April 18, 2011 10:23 pm

yes, can’t depend only on Miah. He might get injured during the football season and can’t play BB later.

hmmm…never knew a glenda before myself.

  151. Curt April 18, 2011 10:56 pm

    al,

#145 You might be right that the recruit in town could be someone who already signed. In reference to your question about choosing a 6’2″ pg or a 6’10” post player, I would choose the pg only if he’s better than Miles and Blakes. If not, I would probably just use it only for an elite level player or save it for next year.

  152. al April 18, 2011 11:04 pm

curt…if you could pair another 6’10” dude with handles, a jumper, a maniac under the boards, can run and dribble the ball from end to end as well as your small forward, with a beast like vander joachim…would you?

or would you take that 6’2″ pg who would split time with miah, blakes, and miles?

me, i’d go after the big guy, because big guys with that kind of talent are rare, few, and far in between.

  153. Stephen Tsai April 18, 2011 11:17 pm

Nope. As I understand it, the guy visiting did not not sign.

I would have pursued it more, but basketball isn’t my beat. I try not to stray.

  154. Curt April 18, 2011 11:22 pm

    al,

#152 Sounds like you’re talking of player who’s a combination of Magic Johnson and Dennis Rodman. Of course I’d take such a 6’10” player. With the current guards we have, I would not pick a pg unless they were clearly better than Miles and Blakes.

  155. homey ℞ April 18, 2011 11:26 pm

  169. Kazz April 19, 2011 12:49 am

    Whitey,

Not really a “closer”. Fastpitch softball doesn’t need a closer.

No way would I classify Parnaby as a “second” pitcher. She’s part of our two-pitcher “system”. The difference in games played between Ricketts and Parnaby would indicate otherwise, but this is not indicitave of her role on the team.

Plenny teams would kill to have two starters, we’ve been blessed the past two seasons and will continue to be blessed for one more.

  170. al April 19, 2011 12:52 am

i always felt that softball team’s should have the luxury of a closer. a lights out pitcher with a nasty fastball at 70+ mph with major movement.

  171. Kazz April 19, 2011 1:05 am

    70mph? 😯

I can only imagine there are a handful of D1 pitchers that can chuck it that fast on a consistent basis.

For a college hardball closer that’s comparable to throwing 105-110 mph heat.

Most D1 pitchers can throw 63-67 mph at any given call.

If starting pitchers for baseball went a full nine innings without relief and managed to still win the game, then I can see… but that is physically impossible.

At only 7 innings and a less destructive pitching motion, it’s unnecessary to have a sole designated “closer” in fastpitch softball.

I wouldn’t want to set aside a scholarship for this and Im sure finding a pitcher that can throw 70mph WITH movement will be found via a walk on and for SURE I would NOT want to use her for an inning or two… I’d want her to go all 7 because the sport physically allows for this to happen.

  172. Kazz April 19, 2011 1:07 am

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment’s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  218. jimmy choo bags 2010 April 26, 2011 10:36 pm

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

A big reduction in junk food, sugary foodstuff, fried foods, sweet foods, beef, and whitened flour products may perhaps be necessary. Retaining wastes bloodsuckers, and harmful toxins may prevent ambitions for losing belly fat. While specified drugs in the short term solve the situation, the bad side effects will not be worth it, and so they never offer you more than a short lived solution. It’s a known idea that 95% of diet plans fail. Many thanks sharing your notions on this blog.
