Micah Inouchi debuts in record time

Derek and Michelle Inouchi today welcomed their first child, a 6.7-pound, 19-inch boy named Micah. Michelle set what is believed to be a department record: 35-minute labor. Derek’s quick and accurate stats show why he is one of the top sports media relations directors in the country. Congrats to the Inouchis.

Concerns about the loss of  middle linebacker Solomon Elimimian have been alleviated by Brashton Satele’s emergence as a leader during unsupervised workouts and the offseason conditioning program. His on-field role also will expand now that he’s back at middle linebacker. During his recruiting visit, as the legend goes, Satele was such a sound sleeper that he slept through the alarm and several wake-up calls. Now, figuratively, he is no longer a sleeper.

R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane, who is poised to start at one of the outside linebacker positions, also has worked hard during the offseason. Because of the pesky granules on the renovated Cooke/Ching field, several players prefer to run in bare feet.

Keep an eye on Aaron Rink, who might be getting a lot of playing time at rush end.

Another one to watch is Liko Satele, Brashton’s younger brother. He redshirted last season after transferring from a small college.

One of the most impressive competitors on campus is Shannon Dresser, the baton twiller for the UH marching bnad. Not only does she choreograph her own routines and practice a couple of hours a day, she also is a member of the UH track and cross-country teams. She receives a tuition scholarship from the band; she’s a walk-on in track.

Football is still the No. 1 revenue producer at UH, fueled, in addition, by the merchandise sales and the lucrative UnderArmour deal. UH keeps track of each coach’s fund-raising efforts. According to someone in the know, one of the coaches who individually raises the most money — surprise, surprise — is sailing coach Andy Johnson.
The least productive fund-raiser? Well, that coach is on leave at the moment.

    What position does Liko play? D-line?

  8. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2009 8:42 am

    Okee dokee! 🙂

    Great pics, Monsieur Tsai!

    Some of the names aren’t familiar, but the guys look great. What’s the advantage to running barefoot on the pebbly surface.

    Nice to have that Satele style leadership, it should be a real boost. And you can’t have to many Sateles on your team…

    RJ looks like an RB’s nightmare.

  9. BIGWAVE96744 March 7, 2009 8:43 am

    just got out of the water… Fridgin cold up in the country…. Kinda small surf today…

  10. Justin March 7, 2009 8:43 am

    How’s Lewis Walker looking, poised for playing time?

  11. djmitcho March 7, 2009 8:45 am

    dpk,
    there is no advantage to running barefoot except you don’t get all the little rubber pellet stuck in your shoes.

  12. BIGWAVE96744 March 7, 2009 8:45 am

    Stephen is Blaze practicing or is he still in rehab mode?

  13. WarriorMojo March 7, 2009 8:49 am

    Top Twenty, baby!

    To the ref who made that charging call last night? Pffffffft!

    Journey tickets, now. A Saturday tradition.

    ~~~•~~~~•~~Good..Morning..Tsaikos..and..Warrior..Nation!!!~~•~~~~•~~~
    FYI – a superb BB game on the tube, UConn @ Pitt (CBS)…. 😀 😯 😆
  15. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:50 am
    dmitcho:
    You are absolutely correct. Those pebbles (granules) are really annoying. No matter how I try, I’ve got some in my shoe from the Hawaii Bowl.
  16. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:51 am
    Blaze has not competed in any of the running drills.
  17. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:53 am
    Justin:
    Lewis Walker is doing well in the unsupervised workouts.
    It’s hard to say who’s ahead at the moment.
  18. brew808 March 7, 2009 8:53 am
    R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane has a cut physique that most Tsaikos can of dream of having…. and most Tsaikettes simply dream of…. 😆 😯 🙄
    Thanks for the info Re: Shannon Dresser. Is her sport cross-country? 😀
  19. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:54 am
    I don’t have the list with me, but the word on the street is UH has made offers to eight 2010 players.
  20. djmitcho March 7, 2009 8:54 am
    ST,
    I helped my friend film a documentary she did on her nephew’s high school football career and their field is real turf. After every game I was finding those pellets stuck in my shoes and socks
  21. brew808 March 7, 2009 8:54 am
    😳 …can only dream of having…. 😳
  22. brew808 March 7, 2009 8:55 am
    Well, except for homey! 😀
  23. madeinhawaii March 7, 2009 8:56 am
    It’s just nice to know that they are working out on Ching/Cooke field and not on the hill anymore — “pebbles or no pebbles”… Now hopefully we get more “bam-bam” out of them.
    I’m really surprised that the sailing coach is the most successful fundraiser. Does his funds go directly into the sailing program or into the general athletic fund?
  24. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:57 am
    Re: Dresser.
    Cross-country and long-distance running.
    We saw her work out in the arena before volleyball practice. After that, she had to go to track practice.
    She’s also very polite and smart.
    Jason?
  25. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 8:59 am
    MIH:
    I think most of it goes into the sailing program.
    Mack and Nash also do well. But another surprise is Lori Castillo, the women’s golf coach. I hear she raises a lot of moolah.
  26. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:00 am
    Hmmmmm….. cross-country & long-distance running…. I can just picture Jase on the “chase” but having to transfer buses to make “haste”…. 😆 😯 😆
  27. Willie March 7, 2009 9:00 am
    ST, did Blaze have an operation to repair his tear in the ankle area?
    Just trying to understand the series of events. Last year they said he was not getting an operation and would rehab to get back. Many rumors about when & if he would play last year. Months went by with no progress. Just don’t get how you can rehab a tear minus an operation in an area that takes so long to recover from.
    What is his timetable to return? We need this “Beast Master”!
    Mahalo for providing an update.
  28. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:02 am
    …and how about Wahine bb…. 😯 🙁 🙄
    Say… is there a Wahine bb banquet? Any guesses on how many ebolla might be invited and attend? 😯 🙄 😈
  29. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:02 am
    Willie:
    No surgery.
    But it was a serious injury.
    And then he had a setback.
    I don’t think he’ll be used very much, if at all, during spring practice. The goal is to get him ready for the season. If he’s healthy, he is capable of having a monster season.
  30. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:04 am
    Glad to hear the “succession plan” has been enacted on the Defense.
    Who is the leader on Offense? Estes?
  31. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:05 am
    At the end of the spring semester last year, a volleyball freshman went to Mike Wilton’s office and posted a picture of a body-builder on the coach’s wall. He told Wilton: When I come back at the end of the summer, that’s what I’m going to look like.
    He came back.
    He didn’t look like that at all.
    He ended up quitting the team.
  32. letsgowarriors March 7, 2009 9:06 am
    stephen, youre going to have to drop those 8 names….soon i hope. haha
  33. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:06 am
    Pow!, Baam!, KaaaBOOM! – Those are the hits Blaze delivers when he’s in the game. Unfortunately, he who delivers, also absorbs some of the punishment! 😐 😯 😕
  34. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:08 am
    Estes is supposed to be the leader of the offensive line.
    But I’ve gotta tell ya, Ray Hisatake always stands out to me. Even if he doesn’t play, he’s always upbeat, and he’s always trying to set the way.
    Anyway, UH is going to do some promotions for Estes this summer. He’ll have his own Web site. And I think they’ll pass out stuff, like notebooks or pens.
  35. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:08 am
    I think about six of those names were discussed/mentioned on the WB over the past 10 days…. 😀
  36. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:09 am
    letsgo:
    I’ll try to post them tomorrow.
  37. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:10 am
    IMHO…. leaders lead! They’re not “appointed”…. 😯
  38. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:10 am
    brew:
    Probably. The folks here know a lot. I just like to hog the credit.
  39. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:12 am
    A lot of time, UH people will call me up and say: How did your Tsai-kos know that.
    And I’m like: “Well, they are very smart and they do have a lot of resources.”
    Then I rush to read the blog to figure out what the UH guy is talking about.
  40. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:12 am
    Why is all this WBC cutting into my NCAA basketball tube time! 😈 😯 👿
  41. madeinhawaii March 7, 2009 9:14 am
    Nice to know that Mac and company are still pursuing the same early recruiting scheme they implemented this past year. It has been a good year for recruits this year and if they continue in the same manner, they will have more than rebuilt the football team, they will have rebuilt the program. The refurbished facilities and new coaching staff fit like hand and glove… custom glove.
  42. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:14 am
  46. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:21 am
    Hmmm…..
    Brashton Satele, LB
    6-1
    255
    Sr.
    Mililani, O`ahu / Word of Life Academy
    Which Satele is the big brother? 😀
  47. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:22 am
    Ran into Brashton once while he was getting his car washed. Thought it was Estes.
    He says that happens a lot.
  48. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:22 am
    d1島 – it’s pretty nice ova here… but it’s not Manoa…. 🙁 🙄 😀
  49. Kazz March 7, 2009 9:24 am
    Hey! Looks like Brashton is sporting the new UA running shoes.
    Oh and I have been SCREAMING it for years from my seat in the North end zone:“BATON GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!”
  50. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:25 am
    Not sure how I became a Facebook friend of Sunway, but she sure can sing.
    And she’s polite and smart.
    Chawan?
  52. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:27 am
  58. Kazz March 7, 2009 9:34 am
    RE: Shannon Dresser.
    The rules of gravity do not apply within 50 feet of her when she is warming up on the sidelines.
    I also believe she is actually in the U.S. special forces and has the ability to kill 2,358 men with firearms with four batons.
  59. brew808 March 7, 2009 9:34 am
    “toys”…=…”tolerates”… 😀
    I know this is late but BIG WINS last night!!!
    Just watched the replay of the volleyball game and last night’s baseball game was unreal with Vinnie Catracala being Mistah Clutch with a key homer at the bottom of the 9th.
    I didn’t mind Miss St. fans at first but having to listen to 18 innings of cowbells (WHERE THE HELL IS THE ENFORCEMENT OF NOISEMAKERS?!?!?!?!?!??!?!) and “come nowww git that baaaawwwwwl” I am ready to cave some faces in. 😈
    letsgowarriors: re post #32.
    Offers were made to Manley and Taz Stevenson.
    ST confirmed this within the past couple of days.
    He was not sure about offers to Vehoko, Hatchie, & Rowley.
    Tomorrow we’ll find out more.
  85. Willie March 7, 2009 10:04 am
    Thanks for the update on Blaze ST. Can’t wait for the return of “Beast Master” Soares!
    That play when he flattened Ian Johnson from Boise State is one of my all time favorite LB plays. Right up there with Alvis Satele & Mark Odom for me.
  86. WarriorMojo March 7, 2009 10:05 am
    Willie, I think he actually flattened Avery. Or are we talking about different plays?
  87. d1島 March 7, 2009 10:07 am
    Bocha time for beau!
  89. FloridaTed March 7, 2009 10:17 am
    We NEED a great year.
    I can talk to people when I’m writing.
    What I can’t stand is when someone stands behind me and reads while I’m writing.
    Markus Owens used to do that. I’d then type out swear words so it sounded like he was cussing to himself.
  92. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 10:25 am
  93. addahknowjoe March 7, 2009 10:29 am
    D1-
    BULLAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!
    Makes me wanna go to the game just to scream that out to them! Too funny!
    If Brashton was to grow out his sideburns more he’d be a dead ringer for the Wolverine character!
    And he’d have the physique to back it up!
    To all the UH teams competing today:
    -Good Luck!
    -No shake Kazz’s hand.
  94. addahknowjoe March 7, 2009 10:34 am
    Good morning Tsai-kos!!
    Congrats to the vb team and the bb team on their wins last night.
    Went to the vb game with a friend. Some random observations:
    – the girl that sang the National Anthem & Hawaii Ponoi is the next Jasmine Trias (especially since she goes to Maryknoll) – she’s 12.
    – Steven Grgas needs to stand up straight!! and put on a little muscle. That guy is soooooooo skinny.
    – announced attendance was 2300 tix issued. Pathetic. Why don’t they just sell all seats for $8 adult/$3 kids?
    – only other Tsaikos I saw were the Docs (and that was after the game).
    – Scott Robbs came with his 2 little girls since he didn’t have to call the game. Bring him back to afternoons – you listening to me, Mr Ikeda?!! Or da odda station could replace that a$$$ lawyer on Wed morning with Scott.
    – Tsai-meister is in his seat right at 1st serve and not a moment before. Meanwhile, da odda paper’s writer is there reaaaaaaaaallllly early.
    Have fun today. Hope it doesn’t rain too much.
  97. Willie March 7, 2009 10:45 am
    WarriorMojo, it was a flattened Bronco. It was at home when we beat them up in 2007. I thought it was Johnson but I could be mistaken. Anyway it made the ESPN highlight reel. Do you know for sure who Blaze’s victim that he blew up was?
    Did Stephen call?
  107. d1島 March 7, 2009 11:21 am
  110. Jason March 7, 2009 11:23 am
    Did a mosquito bite my ear, it’s really itchy … 😀
    Kazz: Actually, the rules on artificial noisemakers are pretty inconsistent. Softball, for example, does have such a restriction, but baseball does not.
    http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/resources/file/ebaf8c4a15702d0/FAQ.pdf?MOD=AJPERES&attachment=true
    Now, if the stadium has a restriction, that’s a different thing.
  111. addahknowjoe March 7, 2009 11:25 am
    Sound advice, CouchP!
    Honestly, Mac should look into implementing a healthy staple of boiled green bananas into the training table! Make those young men SOLID!
    Stretch, mahalo for the clarification on the Bronco road kill.
  116. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2009 11:32 am
    No call from the great one, yet, d1. I’ll just be waiting anxiously by the phone for his call in the meantime. Same as any other day.
    😆
  117. Jason March 7, 2009 11:34 am
    When you like a girl, guy, or reporter, you need to initiate the phone call! Don’t just wait, expecting her/him to call you. No, you make the call — then sulk as she/he hangs up on you. Like every other girl/guy/reporter.
  118. Kekoa March 7, 2009 11:39 am
    Rain on the bb field at Kapolei, but game is now in progress with Aiea jumping out front.
    Koakane, not good weather for you to be out in, especially while in rehab. The rain waters drown your Bud suds.
  119. d1島 March 7, 2009 11:41 am
    Tanks DPK, but decided to listen in from home. 🙁
  120. d1島 March 7, 2009 11:43 am
  121. Da Punchbowl Kid March 7, 2009 11:46 am
  122. Kekoa March 7, 2009 11:56 am
    Careful!…1st offense they cut off your Dow Ling!
  132. d1島 March 7, 2009 12:24 pm
    TOM,
  137. Kekoa March 7, 2009 12:40 pm
    Lucky for Al the betting windows were closed after just 2 minutes! He gets a reprieve from Me, Bulla, DPK, Rob25, Ronnie, Koakane and the scores of others that bet against da Kaimuki Bulldoggies.
    GO Warriors!
  138. madeinhawaii March 7, 2009 12:44 pm
    Tsaibah Geeks?
  139. Kekoa March 7, 2009 12:45 pm
    Shoots, even da *drink* chits were all given out arrready! Who said we couldn’t support gambling in Hawaii? Turn away crowds on each of these key championship betting game days!
  140. Wayne O. March 7, 2009 12:54 pm
    Shannon, I’m very impressed w/ your skills and talent. Continued success. Brashton is known to be injury prone so I hope he can stay on the field more. Estes, well, he’s getting a lot of pub but I haven’t been impressed w/ him. I saw him lose his control by committing some stupid penalties which is very disappointing for someone who should be a leader. I hope he gets his act together. But, good luck for all these guys anyway because I love the Warriors. We should remind the coaches and the players that we should understand who the enemy is. Not the opponents, but “themselves.” If they didn’t beat themselves, they would have beaten San Jose St., and Utah State too last season.
  141. d1島 March 7, 2009 1:06 pm
    T.O. ends up in Buffalo 🙄
  142. Committed Road Warrior March 7, 2009 1:48 pm
    ‘Bows leave the bases loaded to end the 2nd. Hopefully this doesn’t come back to bite them.
    This game isn’t on TV, right?
  143. Ralph March 7, 2009 1:57 pm
    okay tom what’s the weather like in manoa at this time….
  144. d1島 March 7, 2009 2:07 pm
    Ralph,
    According to the P.S. Administrator, no rain.
    According to Don Robbs, misting.
    no rain, no runs 😐
    (He gave the other tic to the Capitol-ist)
  145. Jason March 7, 2009 2:10 pm
    I’m hoping the weather will be good tonight. Last year, it was absolutely perfect. The year before, it stormed. 🙁
  146. Ralph March 7, 2009 2:11 pm
    thanks D1, will chance it and venture to the relay for life and visit with Jason….debating on whether I want to join Kekoa and head over to the basketball game…
  147. d1島 March 7, 2009 2:13 pm
    Jason,
    Good luck tonight. 🙂
  148. Jason March 7, 2009 2:20 pm
  150. d1島 March 7, 2009 3:12 pm
    Congratulations Derek and Michelle Inouchi!
  151. TOM March 7, 2009 3:23 pm
    Ralph:
    Just got back to the apartment – I was out when your message came.But when I went out, it was raining. Right now, it is still overcast but no rain. I see 4 or so tents over the Cooke/Ching field area but only a couple of people.
  152. Jason March 7, 2009 3:49 pm
    Two hours to Relay for Life, and I gotta head out and pick up a few things before I get there. Hope to see some of you tonight! (And if anybody wants a basketball ticket, I have one. First come, first served!)
  153. PowderPuff March 7, 2009 4:02 pm
    Outstanding student-athletes such as Shannon and Kahai make us all proud of UH and its athletics program. Congratulations, Nalani…for Kahai’s success in the classroom. I got a headache reading about his course load. Maybe it’s because I barely passed Math 100, and that was enough for me.
  154. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:07 pm
    Go get’m Jason! Thanks again to you and your TEAM! Get some bananas and Powerade…. 😀
    Is there even a Math 100? 😕 😯 😀
  155. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:14 pm
    al…. DON’T READ THIS! … ‘bows win! All the scoring by the good guys in one inning…. 😀
  156. Committed Road Warrior March 7, 2009 4:19 pm
    brew: That’s ok. Game wasn’t televised, so he no can watch da replay. Tomorrow, OTOH, gotta stay tight-lipped.
    Let’s see how the basketball team does tonight. Do they really want to play the play-in game next week?
    Good luck to Jason tonight.
  157. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:19 pm
    Congrats to Derek and Michelle Inouchi! Wow…. 35 minute delivery…. that’s faster than the pizza guys….!!! 😀 😯 😆
  158. chawan_cut March 7, 2009 4:35 pm
    Congratulations to the Inouchis! Two great people!
    Stephen,
    Who’s Sunway? She didn’t request me as a friend.
    see everyone at tonight’s game!
  159. SteveM March 7, 2009 4:38 pm
    chawan_cut — maybe she hasn’t heard you sing… 😆
  160. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:41 pm
    …or…ST was at J-box and overheard her ordering a Teri-bowl…. 😆 😯 🙄
  161. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 4:41 pm
    Brew:
    That’s pretty funny.
  162. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 4:43 pm
    With our first, Wena was in labor for 26 hours. She was like Rocky: “Cut me… cut me.”
    Of course, it didn’t help that it was the same day as our fantasy league’s mid-season baseball draft. I was trying to upgrade my pitching.
  163. chawan_cut March 7, 2009 4:46 pm
    oh yeah,
    congrats to the base-bows
    10-5 win. bats finally come alive to go with the pitching!
  164. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:51 pm
    Re: GS Warriors…
    Sheeeshhh! The NBA season sure is long when your team is junk … okay… so far out of playoff contention, not playing well, and has no stars…. 🙁 🙄 😥
  165. brew808 March 7, 2009 4:54 pm
    Hhmmmm…. kind of been like that for all of my teams, all this year… 😐 🙄 😥
  166. Committed Road Warrior March 7, 2009 4:59 pm
    ST: They had fantasy baseball back in the day?
  167. J March 7, 2009 5:01 pm
    Steve,
    Sunway’s my cousin.
    Saw a vehicle with a Tsaiko logo while driving south on the 15 to San Diego early this afternoon.
  168. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:07 pm
    So why “Sunway”? Pls explain…. 😕 🙄 😆
    Hi J! 😀
  169. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 5:07 pm
    Yes, even though those snooty N.Y. writers think they came up with “Rotissiere baseball,” they were not the founders. It’s been around for a long time. When I started at the paper in 1981, there were several guys — Leahey, Corky, Jim Hackleman — who were involved in a fantasy football league for several years.
    It’s sort of like Captain Cooke taking credit for “discovering” Hawaii.
  170. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 5:10 pm
    Back in the day, we had some serious gamblers in our workplace.
    There were guys who used to play weekly poker, making hands out of the serial numbers on the paychecks.
    One guy was a runner, and he didn’t, uh, transfer the money. He skipped town.
    I went to the Great Alaska Shootout. There was a Hawaiian plate-lunch restaurant in Anchorage. I went there and, yep, that’s when I ran into the guy who skipped town.
  171. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:10 pm
    Captain Cook got whacked in the end… and some say…. “cooked” too! 😯 😀 🙄
  172. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:14 pm
    ST – Was that before or after Wena became the “governor”? 😀 😯 😆
  173. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:16 pm
    Re: softball tournament
    Are any of the games started at the posted (scheduled) start times? 🙄 😯 😐
  174. wafan March 7, 2009 5:22 pm
    Wishing and hoping for beautiful weather tonight for the participants at the Relay for Life!
    I also hope everyone goes to the games and visits with Jason to help cheer the teams along!!! Show those kids how to cheer. Maybe more will get the hint and go to the games!
    Best of wishes to the RFL participants! What an awesome cause.
    Many thanks, Jason!
  175. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:25 pm
    Hey wafan – isn’t about time for you to visit some local eatery? 😯 😀 🙄
  176. wafan March 7, 2009 5:31 pm
    Brew . . .
    Normally, yes!
    But, today I bought some Korean take-out while I was out running errands. I did not know they would give me 7 kinds of kim chee, too! WOW!!! Easy to heat up and relax at home — no need to put up with the snow and ice at night.
    And, I have enough left over for another lunch and maybe some dinner, too!
  177. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:33 pm
    :mrgreen:
  178. d1島 March 7, 2009 5:35 pm
    wafan/brew,
    Wow in about 6.5 hours you guys will seem like you’re 3 hours away….or something like that???
  179. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:40 pm
    Wow… and d1島 isn’t even a math major! 😆
    wafan – no forget to go to sleep early! Some of us no can afford to miss ANY beauty sleep! 😆 😯 😀
  180. brew808 March 7, 2009 5:49 pm
    …thinking about wafan‘s Korean take-out, and recent post on the WB….
    If a restaurant made meat jun using rat – would that be …. rat jun? 😯 😀 🙄
  181. wafan March 7, 2009 5:54 pm
    brew . . .
    I know. I have seen you. You should go to sleep now. HA!
    Hey, once it is cooked and smothered in a sauce it all tastes the same. Right? Shoot, now I have to check to see if there are any cats and dogs around that restaurant.
  182. brew808 March 7, 2009 6:03 pm
    I know… sad but true. And on top of that, the judge granted my probation only if I promised to wear a double shopping bag over my head whenever I was in public. And then they switched from paper to plastic!!! 😯 😀 🙄
  183. korean cannibal March 7, 2009 6:07 pm
    Our clan caught an English woman named April Mae. For dinner we had April Mae jun.
  184. brew808 March 7, 2009 6:14 pm
    Really!? 😯 April Mae jun – You lie! Agast! 😆 🙄 😯
  185. korean cannibal March 7, 2009 6:18 pm
  187. madeinhawaii March 7, 2009 6:42 pm
    Aigooo… giving us Koreans a bad rep.
    What kind of sauce did you use?
  188. bighilofan2 March 7, 2009 6:50 pm
    gonna nominate you for an award. 😆
    that was cold. COLD. 😆
  189. madeinhawaii March 7, 2009 7:00 pm
    35-minute labor? How is this possible. Check-in takes longer than that.. !
    Congrats to the Inouchis!
  190. FloridaTed March 7, 2009 7:05 pm
    That Inouchi baby is in one heck of a hurry. The bugga gonna be one fast one. Coach Mack, take your notes.
    Congrats to the happy parents and the lucky mother. Better put a leash on this one.
  191. Committed Road Warrior March 7, 2009 7:13 pm
    Men’s Basketball versus NMSU underway…..
  192. Garret March 7, 2009 7:35 pm
    Congratulations to Derek and Michelle Inouchi!
    Lori’s first labor took 1.5 days from the start of regular contractions. That was an ordeal! Lori’s second labor took about 30 minutes and she only pushed twice before the baby was out. I guess that was the difference between having a 9-pound baby first and a 7.5-pound baby next.
  193. Garret March 7, 2009 7:38 pm
    bighilofan2,
    I agree with you (I think this was on the last blog) that the Stadium workers shouldn’t be acting up when kids are trying to get autographs! What you described was shameful and I hope that the Stadium Management modifies its instructions to its security people…or JD pushes them to change the attitudes of the security folks.
    I also agree with you that the fans should stay in their seats until the end of the game, especially for the final home game of the season.
  194. Garret March 7, 2009 7:39 pm
    Another example of Colt giving back to Hawaii.
    More than 450 high school students from Nanakuli, Wai’anae and Kapolei high and intermediate schools will attend an all-day education conference at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa tomorrow that will feature talks from Mayor Mufi Hannemann, Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng and former University of Hawai’i quarterback Colt Brennan.
    The purpose of the conference is to instill in the youths the importance of higher education, assist them with career and college goals, and provide resources for them to achieve these goals. A college fair, college counseling, community and financial aid resources will also be available.
  195. Garret March 7, 2009 7:41 pm
    At least Miami is giving a chance for Samson to compete for one of the starting guard spots. The other guard spot and the starting center spot seems to be taken. I do see the Miami media mentioning a Samson trade possibility more and more…I wonder if he’s being discussed by Miami for a possible draft-day trade. If he isn’t traded on draft day or soon afterwards (to a team that missed out on drafting a C or G that they needed), I hope that he can beat out Donald Thomas!
    After adding Jake Grove, the Dolphins want Samson Satele to compete with Donald Thomas for the guard spot opposite Justin Smiley, barring a Satele trade.
  196. Garret March 7, 2009 7:43 pm
    The bad news for Samson is that he was drafted by the previous Miami management…and Donald Thomas was drafted by Miami’s current management. So, he’s going to have to be a lot better than Thomas to win that starting spot.
  197. Garret March 7, 2009 7:44 pm
    Some nobody else is here and I’ve got to be off line soon, I’m going to do the free play links now. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want to read the off-topic stuff.
    I didn’t realize that the FDA permits a certain percentage of bugs, mold, rodent hairs and maggots in our food. For example, the FDA allows tomato juice to have 10 or more fly eggs (or 5 or more fly eggs and 1 or more maggots) per 100 grams, pizza sauce can have 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams, and hops in beer can have 2,500 plant lice per 10 grams. Apparently the average American ingests 1 to 2 pounds of flies, maggots and mites each year without knowing it.
  201. Garret March 7, 2009 7:45 pm
    Things are a little different for cows in the US…The drop in milk prices and rise in feed prices has been forcing dairy cows to be sold for slaughter to help dairy operators get cash and cut costs. More than 1.5 million of the 9.3 million dairy cows in the US could be slaughtered this year!
    ST,
    You’ve been to Laramie, what do they have there besides the school? Wyoming has a population of about 535,000 and I don’t understand how they have so many people.
    And the smell of cattle on the drive to Las Cruces is kinda nasty, huh?
  214. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:04 pm
    did I mention it’s on oc16.tv?
    KS wins
    Congrats, Kamehameha.
  215. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER March 7, 2009 9:05 pm
    I used to watch Laramie on tv.
    Now watching Dances W/ Wolves…
  216. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:07 pm
    why do kids go to No. Colorado?
    Greeley’s big industry is the cattle processing facility.
    Talk about smell! 👿
    lives up to its initials: UNCO 😯
  217. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:07 pm
    OK, that’s sad: The Red Star moment is the fan’s halfcourt shot at halftime.
  218. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:10 pm
    Yes, I’ve been to Greeley, Las Cruces and Laramie.
    Of the three, Laramie is the best. The only thing about Wyoming is the thin population is spread out over a lot of space. I thought it would be cool to move the cities closer.
  219. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:13 pm
    And Greeley, indeed, has that different sort of aroma.
  220. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:14 pm
    Hey, it wasn’t so bad for the fan! I’m sure there were a few red stars around to celebrate….
  221. al ™ March 7, 2009 9:14 pm
    on another note….anymore recruits?
  222. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:16 pm
    When you talk to the Admissions people from UNCO they are sure to emphasize that all the buildings are “climate-controlled”
  223. whitey March 7, 2009 9:21 pm
    no make fun of these farm people. they are the most loyal fans of their respective schools in their states and even if they have less population than uh, they support their school’s athletic programs and are willing to travel to see them play. the major thing about these people are they are truly hospitable and love people from hawaii.
  224. whitey March 7, 2009 9:28 pm
    be truly an experience if you could spend a week on the farm. their work is never done, they don’t complain, no excuses for not feeding the animals or milking the cows, work 7 days with no holidays, but have time to be down home people. my kind of people. your word is most important to them and they care about others in their area.
  225. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:36 pm
    whitey,
    #1 son shared a house with a guy whose family owned a dairy farm in CA. Like you said, really nice people. Their life is like you describe.
    They told us if we ever wanted to visit them, it would take about 2 weeks to get “used to” the smell and about a week to get rid of it when we left.
    We haven’t taken them up on their offer yet….
  226. al ™ March 7, 2009 9:38 pm
    whoa nalani….they won the whole thing!
    imua warriors!
    i hear that they have the talent to take the baseball title as well this year. hmmm.
    thursday is good.
  227. duffer March 7, 2009 9:41 pm
    al,
    better watch #2 son, whitey’s on his sojourn.
    Tell the boss to lock the doors!
  228. Stephen Tsai March 7, 2009 9:42 pm
  229. d1島 March 7, 2009 9:48 pm
    Wow! 5,208 went to the Kahuku – Kam School game. I think that’s like just one more digit than the attendance at the UH BB games. Problem is, it’s the first digit.
    d1….don’t you have lunch every day?
  236. addahknowjoe March 7, 2009 11:10 pm
    Boy, the UH basketball game was extremely painful to watch.
    LK- Midori and I extend our big time Mahalo!
    Saw Jason and his posse twice tonite. Funny though, I neva see that braddah walk/jog/run or crack a sweat yet. To top it off, all us Tsai-kos there walked at least a lap more than him. JaM & Brie lead our lap. =)
    I think Jason going sprint 8 miles an hour before sunrise.
    Good luck little buddy! Make us proud!
    So proud to see sj-macro and myki lending their support out at TC Ching and the game tonite.
    When last checked up on,Rob25 was bidding on practically everything at the silent auction. I don’t think she wanted anything, though. She just wanted to jack the prices up. All for a good cause, eh?
    Mei Ling said she going down to Genji’s and sing her bestest with her Cali crew. SteveM and Peaches were there manning the big private booth.
    Neva got the chance to talk with the seeded lands finest. But i did see him counseling Jason’s posse on military tactics to combat and endure their all night event.
    With his flu in tow,Koakane braved the elements to lend his support to Jason and UH BBall. braddah was tired but a total trooper.
    I wish the b-ball team would play with as much intensity as braddah Kazz. They’d be WAC champs.
    Chawan and Lefty were in their true “perpetual student” form wreaking havoc under the basket.
    Man, HiFlyer was on campus all day supporting every UH sporting event.
  237. Ralph March 8, 2009 12:00 am
    I’d like to thank mano for the basketball ticket tonight. It was a student ticket, age 8-14, I wondered if someone was going to challenge my age but nearly everyone in the section appeared senior citizen status…
  238. Ralph March 8, 2009 12:05 am
    I was in the best available ticket line with hiflyer, he ordered 3 tickets for the seniors from the ceded lands and himself, he dropped $40 and the girl said not enough. huh! he gave her $60 for the 3 tickets, waited for his change, we couldn’t believe he got back $6.00. so i asked him, are you sitting in the lower bowl, no, upper level and don’t know where.
  239. Ralph March 8, 2009 12:07 am
    i guess JD lowered the mvb and wbb only this season along with the concession stand…I asked Hiflyer, didn’t JMxxxx state that she got a ticket, burger, fries and drink for $18. What happened! he had to smile…
  240. chawan_cut March 8, 2009 1:31 am
    jason,
    sorry, didn’t have a chance to stop by the relay. things got behind schedule and had to get home to pack.
  241. bighilofan2 March 8, 2009 2:43 am
    Blaze,
    you’re entitled. you’re legal. i’ll always remember the great times you wacked da odda guyz into anudda time zone. wuz hoping to see samoa. erryting and errybudy get dare season. glad i got to see yours. have a great life, Warrior. more great moments await you.
  242. Ralph March 8, 2009 2:44 am
    gee no post from Kekoa after we watched the basketball game together…he must be in a state of shock from the lackluster performance…but the night wasn’t wasted, we got to see momo and mrs. momo, myki, sj and jason and a lot of people at the relay for life benefit….bumped into midori and rob in rainbowtique, and Kazz and koakane at the softball game….
  243. Kekoa (iPhone) March 8, 2009 2:46 am
    Mahalo plenty Hi-Flyer for springing for those ducats. We actually ended up sitting with momo & the Mrs.
    Watching this edition of the Mbb team was extremely painful. I have never seen a team as miscombobolated as them. I seriously doubt coach Nash’s ability as a coach! Here’s my humble opinion.
    1) One should be able to demand good passes and expect the starting 5 to protect the ball. With a season behind them, why was this basic part of ball control so horrid!
    2) Shouldn’t we expect a player to be more accurate at shooting free throws at D-1 level. They are called ‘free’ throws for a reason. Work to improve your game as a matter of pride.
    3) RUN…don’t walk! Amis strolls up court like he’s going to English class. So do the others at times. Result…no transition game.
    4) Moving without the ball. Gentleman please! Is it possible to show a little hustle out there? MOVE! Make snappy, swift but sure passes. This continuous ball movement causes the defense to have to move and eventually fail to keep up. Bingo! There’s an open shot opportunity, or a lane open to drive the lane.
    5) Follow your shot and REBOUND! Crash the boards, you had the height advantage, USE IT!
    These are only a few of the glaring, but fixable flaws that jumped out at me. I expect a better quality athelete on schollie…one that can respond to coaching. Demand your money’s worth from these kids. Or cut ’em loose and reload!
    Bhf2…help me down from my soap box. 10Q.
  244. Ralph March 8, 2009 2:48 am
    hardly any comments on the basketball game, did the blob crash or the techies doing repairs, kind of quiet night….no one posting comments as the game progressed-was everyone in a state of shock like kekoa?
  245. bighilofan2 March 8, 2009 2:59 am
    hiya Ralph, Kekoa. sorry about da mbb game. not so good, kinda like da wedda right now here on da east side. yup, still raining. howz it dare?
  246. HiFlyer March 8, 2009 3:00 am
    Ralph, I think everyone else was watching the State championship game and if you notice they had a bigger crowd than the UH game.
  247. Kekoa (iPhone) March 8, 2009 3:04 am
    Pops and I were proud to see the Tsaiko’s lead the way at Jason’s Team HQ tent. Our newest Tsaiko’s came out on a wet and ugly nite to support Jason and meet a few of us die-hard fans. SailorBlue and his lovely wife Janice will add a little Navy and Coast Guard influence to our blogship. Welcome aboard to you both!
  248. Ralph March 8, 2009 3:09 am
    Ferd’s column is a good read…..i do hope nash will be able to entice a few players to leave or hopefully the light bulb goes off and he has the fortitude to pull some scholarships to right the ship for next year….I know Garret mentioned commitment to those who signed on but the team can not endure another losing season-and if that comes to pass, that will be three consecutive under nash….
  249. Ralph March 8, 2009 3:14 am
    BigHilo go to Kilauea and pray for the basketball program, it is in dire straits…..if your pray includes an offering of food i suggest that you do it when no other tsaiko is around….
  250. Kekoa (iPhone) March 8, 2009 3:16 am
    Ralph ~ Me and Pops went to have a bowl of pork saimin that was excellent. It was what we needed to exlax and rehash da game.
    Best shot of the night?…Fan man who made the final buzzer beater from half court to win the grand prize! You should have seen the crowd go bonkers! Was a trip!…really…it was! Outside island I think was.
  251. Ralph March 8, 2009 3:23 am
    on the way home i tuned in to espn radio and heard a comment that someone mentioned Artie Wilson gives the coaching a B+ for the season….rose colored glasses does that to a realtor, a 13-16 season to date, the players are his recruits (jackson wheeler too) and he trained them so the buck stops at his door step…
  252. Ralph March 8, 2009 3:26 am
    saimin sounds a lot better that the mcdonald burgers I ate after the game.
  253. Ralph March 8, 2009 3:31 am
    so bighilo swooshes in and swooshed out- an older version of esme…get a thicker futon for better comfort or think of Hermie to warm your soul…
  254. HiFlyer March 8, 2009 3:31 am
    Ralph – Ferds column hits the nail on the head, the last game of the season and still looked like they were playing the first game together. They definitely need to look for a point guard that can shoot from the outside.
  255. bighilofan2 March 8, 2009 3:34 am
    I think UH Athletics being run by Mr. Donovan is in good hands. He got me smiling, because for me Coach Mack is carrying the whole UH. I remember when we wuz all saying Arizona get da pipeline to Samoa, had Tomey and Wagner an all dat, plus had samoa big schools making recruit inroads dare, but now look at what just happened, and Brian Smith was the one finishing up da recruiting dare dis year.
    so if Jimmy D says keep Nash, I go along wit dat. I tink Nash could do betta dough. i hoping so. i hoping he get samoa into his players’ heads.
    day way you guyz talking about da lack of mental concentration… maybe he going steal Ostrowski? 😀 i say be upfront… steal em.
  256. bighilofan2 March 8, 2009 3:38 am
Instead they dancing low, low, low like Tsigh….I don’t know how many one bounce passes bounced off the shins but nitoto, hiram and mayem can’t expect flemings, campbell and amis to set up and bend that low to receive a pass…
    I wonder how many mainland tsaikos watched the video streaming of the game…..we may have a lot of tsaikos talking to themselves…29 games and is this as good as it gets….jason, jason, jason this learning curve is skewed to far to the right, how patient are you, we might have but one game left with Fresno State….
  277. Ralph March 8, 2009 4:33 am
  283. wafan March 8, 2009 6:45 am
    This nonsense of waking up an hour earlier now is really messed up. All in the name of “saving” energy. HA! What boob thought up this plan? The oil companies?
    Anyhow, this morning I got up still in a daze. Took a bite of my cinnamon toast and immediately spit it out. Duh. Really tired at that time. Forgot to mix the cinnamon with the Splenda. I need to take a nap.
  284. wafan March 8, 2009 6:47 am
    Too bad about the basketbows. Odd situation this year for the team.
    The RFL is over. I hope everyone had a great time raising money for a great cause.
    Great morning All!
    Sorry to hear about the MBB effort (or lack thereof) last night. As “Ferd” says, maybe the anticipated one (or two) and done in Reno will leave some extra time for the coaches to put to good use on the recruiting trail.
  286. d1島 March 8, 2009 7:09 am
    al,
    Yes lunch is a daily routine. Days off are not.
