End around
Defensive end Ipulasi “Lasi” Eselu is on the Warriors’ roster as a non-scholarship player.
Eselu was nearly lost in transition after meeting UH’s entry requirements this past fall. Eselu made an oral commitment to the Warriors in July 2009, but did not meet the requirements to be part of the 2010 recruiting class.
Eselu agreed to pay his own way this semester.

The Warriors are seeking relief help on their scholarship numbers. Ellis Henderson, who is enrolled at Portland State, reportedly still counts as an initial scholarship for UH.
Henderson signed with UH in February 2012, but opted to grayshirt after undergoing shoulder surgery. He was enrolled at UH as a part-time student during the fall semester. After that, he decided to transfer. Henderson and his family have been helpful in trying to get him off the UH books.

gmahoney –
Its cool, dry and windy here on the slopes of Pu’owaena this morning. Poifect weather for winning Wahine Softball!
What time do the magnificent Wahine play today?
What are Lasi’s measurements?
Morning all!
I hope not to jinx things, but it appears to be somewhat sunny on our side.
DPK, noon and 4:00pm, Koakane said it’s windy, bring a windbreaker.
morning 808
is it windy were you at… welcome to the club
Yep. Windy. A really nice sunny morning though.
We going Swap Meet. May catch a game later.
yep the winds at UH are brutal but the wahine games are electric
Sun out and peeking through on the Windward side! Little chilly but promising for better as day wears on! I hope I hope…
Bring a wind breaker? Why kk? I not planning to break wind. 😆
Great Morning All!
Top C!

$1,000,000 for Hawaii Football.
Are you tired of hearing everyone say that UH doesn’t have those million dollar donors those big schools like USC do? If we can get 100,000 fans to donate $10 each; then we will have $1,000,000 to make a difference and show our support to Coach Chow and his staff’s recruiting efforts. As we know, recruiting is the lifeline of any football program. So let us all start by forwarding this message to everyone we know.
Please make your 100% tax-deductible donation to the “Warrior Nation Fund”, a new UH Foundation Fund—just click on the following link:
https://www.uhfoundation.org/give/givin … 4&site=AKA
Mahalo, Tom Kitaguchi. After making your donation, you will receive an email confirmation from the UH Foundation–pls. forward that to me at: tomkitaguchi@yahoo.com
so I can let you all know how much we have raised toward our goal.
… Below is an email from the President of UH Foundation’s AKA to me:
Dear Tom,
Thank you for all of your efforts to raise funds for Warrior football. We greatly appreciate your support and leadership as president of the Warrior Nation group. As indicated, all the funds raised will directly support Coach Chow’s needs not covered by his athletics budget and be up to his discretion on how it is spent. When Coach needed funding for knee braces, your group stepped up and delivered.
On behalf of UH Athletics, thank you again for your support. Mahalo.

GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
ST: Nice story on Coach Thom this AM. Look forward to seeing the rest of the series.
Wow, when the flag is flapping stiff, that’s about 30mph wind!
Ipulasi “Lasi” Eselu: welcome aboard.
Being a non-scholarship player shows your commitment.
Go Warriors !!!
Ellis Henderson, and family, Thank you for your assistance in relieving our “cap room”.
sat – red flag.
opppsss = oooops
recruiting never stops does it?
i guess i’ll go to chuch like esme and pray on it (the san mateo decision).
tommui…i was at the jcc on friday and i couldn’t help but get allured by the smell of teddy’s bigger burgers just around the corner. temptation set in, however, i resisted. but, it did jar my memory that we needed to go check out that beretania hamburger joint. especially since i had discussion about the great hamburger joints in town and it was highly recommended that i try that place.
ai-eee-soos,
Powdered or Glazed?
😉
Henderson’s schollie… who goes without one if we can’t get it back in time?
mih…another recruit.
aside from transfer qb taylor graham, i am anxious to see who the first qb that norm chow signs straight out of high school.
mih…probably means that we won’t have to greyshirt someone or bring in another bounceback, late pickup or something like that. it will be just another window of opportunity for intents and purposes.
AL #28 – any time!
I don’t understand the seemingly silly scholie rules. If Henderson is no longer with the school, his scholie should be cleared. Of course, that would make too much sense.
Al . . . for all of those who think Hawaii doesn’t stand a chance with the san mateo monster, if he truly wasn’t torn, he would have made his decision already. Not saying that we’ll get him in the long run, but at least he is seriously considering it.
Good morning Tsaikos!
ST – Ellis Henderson signed in 2011, not 2012, right? Thanks to the Henderson family for helping UH out.
Congrats to Mr. Eselu.
GO WAHINE!
Good morning everyone!
Daylight Savings Time kicked in this morning. Doesn’t affect us in Hawaii, but our mainland friends and family are now one more hour ahead of us until November.
d1 – #14 (8:29am blog clock time) da Utah recruit is a senior? and he took his SAT yesterday? Kinda late…
There you go . . . the final reason the san mateo monster should choose Hawaii . . . he doesn’t have to change his watch everytime daylight savings rolls around.
jmxxxx,
Some will take SAT’s right up thru grad time.
Some will wish they could add up all the scores from all their attempts! 😈
ST,
Mahalo for the update on Lasi! Good to hear that he’s finally a WARRIOR!
BTW, any info on future plans for his younger brother DE Nainoa ’12?….or OL Chris Loyd ’12 (younger brother of current Warrior OL Frank Jr.)?
#40 & #42,
Usually means that it’s not the 1st time that he’s taking the test….since must take at least once in order to take official school recruiting trips….which he definitely did. Probably also means that he still needs to improve his test score too.
#43,
All Menehune from Moanalua.
Pomai ~ Game on as planned today.
As I understand it, if a player signs a letter, then the scholie is binding, especially when the player is academically eligible.
There’s no option to make the scholie retro to 2011, because UH used up all of those scholies. It becomes a 2012 counter.
Teams are limited to 25 initials. So even if there’s room, only 25 new guys can play under initial scholarships in 2012. That’s why it’s important to clear off players who are no longer here.
Re: SATs
As I understand it, a player must take the SAT (or ACT) — regardless if a qualifying score is attained — in order to go on a recruiting trip.
It’s just that, by now, acceptance letters are going out from the colleges, right? So, why even bother taking the standardized tests again? Or does a different standard apply to scholarship athletes than the average student?
checkin out LSU’s 2012 recruiting, they already have a couple hs-recruits similar in size & weight to da-big guy on UH’s wish list; on top of that a bunch of veterans of equal size already on the roster. So?????, competition at that position at LSU is deep.
That being said, I think da big guy is a bit perplexed which way to go….especially considering he has just 2 yrs. of shelf life left. Mo-beta go UH big guy.
from tweetah
jmxxxx,
I would think recruits would already receive “conditional” acceptance pending SAT scores, final grades, police blotter checks, etc.

ai-eee-soos,
Powdered or Glazed?
———————————————-
YESssssssss !!!
Police blotter checks?…(Groan)…no chance of my walking on now. Try wait, shoots, I no mo elgibility. Nevah mine anyways, da player no can be oldah den da coach,
Carry on…enjoy your day erryone.
The most dangerous time is after a player signs a letter of intent.
It’s up to the player to finish strong for the final semester.
LIU Brooklyn?
A team to watch. 😛
Go Wahine!
Let’s go Wahine Bows!
Kekoa,
Is dat true for JC? I mean is there an age limit at the JC level?
wat! wot!!
al already conceded his lunch to me and MattBoy – no reniging, al!!!
Wahine win 9-0 by mercy.
d1:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! let Randy Moss go elsewhere! Niners need new, YOUNG, fresh blood in the 2012 draft.
if anything, they should release the Oklahoma St flash who IMHO is just a flash – lots of smoke, but no fire.
yep, ST spoke too soon as the sun is still behind dark, heavy clouds – poked out for about 5 minutes and went back to “sleep”
com’on Mr. Sunshine, we need your warmth and get my solar panels hot!!!
A-house,
Prolly not my first choice either but by the time they get around to the Niners pick it’s doubtful they’d find anyone who can take the coverage pressure off V. Davis.
…but then again who heard of Victor Cruz last Spring?

you are right on da kinipopo. genius. i wuz thinking the same thing. but more important dan all da rest, is da bling factor in Hawaii. automatic bling fo brudda Fanaika here, plus Coach Chow not gonna let his head get bigga dan his feet.

Ahhlouse-san…concession? Me…never.
Samurai never concede.
al:
that’s why no more samurai today – they all died in the movie The Last Samurai.
yet, I do hope your stead fast belief will come true!
remarkable the type of athletes we are going after (marcus baugh). it demonstrates just how much our program has been asleep for decades and how low our expectations have become over the years through mediocrity. Chow & Co have set the bar high….now, fans need to do likewise.
I too, appreciate how Coach Chow is approaching recruiting, but offering and accepting are to quite different animals.
Yes, if there is no offer how can there be acceptance.
Perhaps the San Mateo OL will be the catalyst in going after and signing those 4* and 5* players from the mainland. Hope that the commitment by the Kahuku OL will have the same ripple effect for the “local” players.
Shoud all this and more come to pass in Coach Chow’s first 3 years, blessed will be the Warrior program – say, not bad for a Buddhist!!
#77,
Not sure what it is….but I just gotta believe that at least one of UH coaches must have some kind of connection to SoCal Inland Empire (IE) schools since the Warriors have already made scholie offers to 7 IE players thus far (including to 5 of the IE’s top 10 prospects).
http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/preps/post/_/id/14974/i-e-top-10-football-recruits-for-2013
Ahouse…sorry I messed up your name. It’s this smart phone of mine…I think it flunked the first grade.
Softbows sweep, 9-0, 4-0.
wahine used the long ball to extend their record for consecutive game victories to twenty-one, with a 4-0 win over Marist in the nightcap of a doubleheader at wahine softball stadium.
Makani took it yard for a solo HR in the 3rd. Li’ili’i followed with another solo blast to center in the 5th and Iwata’s two-run shot to left came in the 6th with a runner on.
Earlier the wahine beat Robert Morris 9-0 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
Wahine are now 21-0, ranked 19th and will host #2 California, #6 Texas and #21 T A&M in this week’s Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.
This will prolly be the last chance for Hawai’i to ascend in the rankings against top-ranked teams. Conference play starts the following week.
The PAC 12 has seven-teams ranked ahead of Hawai’i–Calif #2, WASH #4, ASU #5, Stanf #10, ARIZ # 13, UCLA #17 and Oregon #18.
The wahine have beaten two ranked teams 4Xs–#22 FSU (2x) and #25 Depaul (2x).
how come if dey softball, dey name dere school afta one baseball playa, Roger Marist.
Mahalo, Coach Chow and Assistant Rauscher for stopping in at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium!

Not in our house.
Tsaikos rise up!
Just got home. Congrats to the Wahine on their spectacular wins. This week is gonna be a real test for them before entering conference play.
Next weekend will be busy on lower campus with softball, baseball and volleyball going on.
There are only 2 more home Warrior volleyball series left this season. Get out there and support them! First up, BYWho this Friday and Saturday with their 7th year seniors, as Charlie Wade likes to call them.
Is MWC basketball that good that 5(!) teams got in?

From the game summary:
😯 ❗ ❗
slow night. everyone must be trying to figure out their NCAA brackets. 😆
Congrats to the SoftBows!
Mahalo to Ellis Henderson’s family in working to get the scholarship freed up.
Night!
Congrats to the Wahine!
Got some real interesting news today for Tsai-kos thinking of cruising south for 7-nights after the UH-USC game in September. Cruises north in Alaska possible too and there is an organized tour by a big local travel agency for the game and cruise. Remember, we have a bye after the USC game.
I probably will not be going …but i’m getting really really tempted… 😐
Good job Wahine Softball bows….I tried to look up the NCAA Div I National Women’s softball stats but the only stats showing are for 2011. Pretty sad that this organization is behind.
Lots of talk about decision, UH or LSU, but still no resolution on question: “Is he an NCAA clearinghouse qualifier?” LSU is agreat place to be a football player, but will it be a place where your skills will stand out? Even that dude Michael Mohrer (sp?) from the move “The Blind Side” stood out because he was on a weaker SEC team and he over-achieved. I remember that David Veikune ate him up in some bowl practices and made a name for himself before the NFL draft.
Good Monday to everyone!
thanks sportsbow, jkjones, kapakahi, for bringing attention to the inside scoops on what UH is doing recruiting wise.
Al, you got lunch coming.
da san mateo kid would have to be absolutely NUTZ not to want to play for Coach Chow.
plus, like wuz said earlier, get cushion if brudda comes Hawaii to play 2. nope, not going be one cakewalk eeda way, but get more chance fo be one big bright star here dan dare.
yup, for his own sake, da best choice is Hawaii.
Thanks approving to the adept info. Simply nondiscriminatory wen upwards! I continually do not mushrooming/groving/escalating on these although desponding you did a actively buddy-buddy depredate and I’m indubitable some people suavity the less anyway.

I have found kicking the habit is actually almost impossible. I started cigarette smoking while I was 14 years old. It absolutely was the worst wrong move I’ve made. Now I’m much older and I have coronary artery disease. I tested every one of the stopping tricks yet none helped me stop. My last try is definitely the electric cigarette in the end.
Great Morning All!
Hold on to yer hats!
Coach Powell needs to watch DPK do his thing at the yakiniku grill.
Talk about fast twitch! 😆
Good morning, gang!
Off to the salt mines… stay dry…

can’t talk too much about ‘fast twitch’ muscles on this blog, it’s a family station…..haha
Mililani raining again. Must be true that the Japan earthquake shifted the earth’s axis just a little bit. It feels like winter still in the 60s here. I remember September and October was kind of warm and Dec. and Nov. wasn’t as cold as previous years too.
congrats to Leisha Li‘ili‘i for bieng named the WAC hitter of the week.
Congrats Leisha Li’ili’i, a phenom in the making. There is not a pitch she cannot hit. Pitch her on the outside, it is high up on the screen in left field. Pitch her in the middle, it is into the tennis courts. Pitch her on the inside, over the scoreboard in right field. In time she will be the most dangerous hitter in college softball.
Both frosh Li’ili’i (8:7) and Wartner (12:12) have respectable BB:KO ratios. A good indication of a “seeing” hitter.
Other wahine with 1.0 or better:
Majam (17:12), Iwata (8:7) and Aquire (9:8).
Others: Robinson (7:10), Pagaduan (5:13), Sharla (6:18) and Makani (1:14).
Also impressive with Li’ili’i, she bats in the No 7 spot and leads the team in OB% @ .517.
Enabling the No 8 and 9 hitters (Makani and Pagaduan) to produce 21 rbi’s between them. That averages to one rbi per game for the bottom of the order! outstanding!
