Edwards receives combine invite

Former UH cornerback/returner Mike Edwards said he has accepted an invitation to compete in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

He said he has been asked to report on Feb. 20.

Edwards and San Diego State corner Leon McFadden have been training together in Arizona. They became friends during the Mountain West media preview this past summer.

Trayvon Henderson’s commitment is a boost to this recruiting class, but the Warriors are not done. It appears they are reserving scholarships for at least three local players and some more mainland prospects. The next two weekends should be telling. Among the recruits expected to visit are linebacker Jamie Tago of American Samoa and cornerback Troy McCollum of Florida.

I think Talia will start racking up big offers. Good to see Hawaii be the first but this was his first season at DE. He gained about 40 pounds from high school and a real gym rat. 16 tackles for loss is pretty good in his 1st year and the guy can fly. Typical recruit we usually end up going against Oregon st and Wazzu for.

  40. kapakahi January 24, 2013 8:17 am

    #31,

Highly doubtful….but one never knows. Remember Taliulu last year.

Koehler has already changed his mind twice thus far…..Tennessee….then Arkansas…..now apparently Kansas.

  45. kifi January 24, 2013 8:45 am

Healing prayers for Joe Francis, one of Hawaii’s first NFL veteran and former Packer. Get well brah.

  46. Former UH Athlete January 24, 2013 8:47 am

Good luck to Edwards at the Combine (aka Underpants Olympics)…. I think he’ll do well. I’ve been watching a little bit of the Senior Bowl practices and the drills they do are very interesting. You get to see what the NFL scouts look for in players.

Chow’s got transfers that will fill the immediate holes and lots of freshmen to build the program around long term. Time will tell how they develop but the foundation of the program looks much better now.

As I’ve said several times, year 3 or 4 is when you tell how good a new head coach is. Year 1 is transitional with a patchwork recruiting class and implementing systems. Year 2 is the 1st full recruiting class and expansion of the offensive playbook. Can be inconsistent with a ton of roster turnover (new recruits and previous coach’s players leaving program). Year 3 is when the new coach’s early recruits really start showing their development.

  47. Former UH Athlete January 24, 2013 8:52 am

Hopefully UH can keep the boys going on mission when they return in 2015. Several magically end up at “you know where” once they return.

  48. kapakahi January 24, 2013 9:00 am

    #31,

Don’t know if this is reality….or just my perception…..but these last-day commit change-ups mostly seem to have gone against UH…..Taliulu, Keliikipi, Perry, etc.

There must’ve been others, but the only one that comes to mind…..that ever went UH’s way was…..Ornellas.

Or just maybe the local recruiting disappointments…..more so than the coups…..are just easier to remember.

  49. Buffoman January 24, 2013 9:05 am

#48 In a strange way, you sort of reinforce a point some make, myself included in that when the young person leaves, we sort of forget who they are. Nothing against them but the real interest for most Warrior fan is with those who are here. I can’t remember who Taiulu is and what Perry has done.

#44.. Are you serious… Why would Koehler want to go to Kansas? Better track his family’s bank accounts.

Then again… going by school stature he’s burned… he’s downgrading with each choice… maybe UH has a shot if Koehler changes his mind a few more times.

  52. Derek January 24, 2013 9:12 am

Talia looks impressive. Sign him up, he has a non stop motor and plays to the whistle. Good bull rush and spin move, has a great burst to make the tackle. Has a lot of upside.

  53. SteveM January 24, 2013 9:15 am

I would guess that if a recruit is really undecided, he would want to commit to any school he just visited (while the impression and memory is strong). Same for a player who verbal-ed elsewhere earlier. A few days later…maybe not so much.

Having a recruit visit on the last weekend before LOI day should be advantageous? Any thoughts on this from those who know recruiting better?

  57. jiminy cricket January 24, 2013 9:24 am

Sorry #46 and 47. that is just not correct. In the old days, coaches were given 5 years to build a program. then in the last 15 years or so, we started seeing coaches turning programs around in the 1st year and 2nd years, e.g. June Jones, Jim Harbaugh at Stanford, this year Bob Davie at NMSU, etc.(Davie was the most interesting this year; NMSU was 3-33 in the 3 years before he took over and they beat UH at Aloha Stadum this year). There are a bunch of them. These are the GOOD COACHES. Alumni and ADs then got smart and said if these other coaches and schools can do it in one year, how come our school has to wait 4-5 years?

And then, the collegiate programs began demanding quicker turnarounds so you don’t see too many 5 year contracts for new coaches any more. that’s why Chow has a 3 year contract. The GOOD coaches can turn around the program in one year. the lower tier coaches will take longer, if they are successful at all.

Chow obviously has to go heavy on the JC route. But most JC guys don’t pan out until their 2nd year in the program, if at all. There are some exceptions who make immediate impacts in their first year, but they are far and few.

People get overly optimistic during recruting season. I hope UH has a winning season this coming year, but I am not optimistic for the reasons above. Bring back JJ.

and when the local boys go away, sometimes it doesn’t work out: Kimo Makaula. Idaho State got blown out by super powers cal poly 14-70, montana 24-70, and portland state 10-77 and went 1-10. their only win came against black hills state school for the blind 38-5. for the season they gave up 592 points and scored only 228.

he probably owes #5 some thanks for getting UW to steal him away from the UH.

  64. kapakahi January 24, 2013 9:35 am

    #49,

    Gotta agree.

Unless they eventually make it to the league, local players who play away aren’t really remembered…..whereas the former UH players are forever remembered by the local fans here.

Pretty sure that Shawn Ching and John Veneri would agree with the latter opinion.

  68. Whats up January 24, 2013 9:50 am

There are many variables that can make or break a coach turning around a program or trying to continue to keep program at a high level after losing a great head coach. Like Big Wave said Junes Junes went 1-11 his first year at SMU but went 9-4 in his first year at Hawaii. But one is true it does take time to see how good a head coach really is.

  69. kapakahi January 24, 2013 9:52 am

  78. Buffoman January 24, 2013 10:06 am

#57 I think that JJ’s time at UH is pau. I don’t know if there is any truth to the whispers regarding what happened prior to UH playing in the Sugar Bowl with him being distracted with a new offer (albeit in large part our fault with contract being messed up). The part that may be unsettling if there is some truth is the discipline issue prior to being on a HUGE stage where the story goes that key individual(s) were out until the wee hours of the morning prior to the game. That did not sit well with me.

If you are representing Hawaii in a first and BIG stage, I want someone who is responsible to manage the situation and if those stories are true, we looked worse than we should have (not saying we could have beaten the opponent and officials) due to a lack of proper management.

I would like to see things work out for this coach but if it does not and we need to replace him, I would opt for someone else. Winning is important but there has to be character building as these young men will have to function in the real world following their playing days and it would be great to have lessons in life be instilled that would help them move on. That’s just my opinion.

  79. Old School Dave January 24, 2013 10:15 am

Like the Frank Delima song goes: “JJ took da money and said Aloha, and us guys we still stay hea.”

  80. Kevin January 24, 2013 10:21 am

Players bringing video cameras while running onto the field was a nice indication of how “concentrated” said former coach was.

Jones made good in game adjustments in the WA game when the pass rush murdered our offense dropping us to 0-21 at one point so one would figure that for a game of that magnitude, the offensive “genius” could have done the same with weeks to prepare in New Orleans.

We may not have won against Georgia in the end, but to have been down 38-3 or whatever it was in the first three quarters doesnt do justice to the “brilliance” of a coach that some like to paint Jones to be after the fact.

Just watched the Katie Couric/Manti Te’o interview. May I suggest to anyone with an interest in this story to do the same. The hardened skeptics may feel it was all shibai … the explanations, the tears. The realists may feel reinforced — yes, Manti was duped and yes, he lied after the fact which he admits was a huge mistake — but it will help give some perspective into how this bizarre story played out. OK, back to recruiting news.

  83. gobows January 24, 2013 10:31 am

coaching, and some of the woes on offense is the fault of colt brennan and john estes…estes gave away the snaps with his head movement, it was so systematic, look up, pause, snap, look up, pause, snap, same rhythm every snap.

  84. Kevin January 24, 2013 10:32 am

I am not cheerleader for the former HC by any means. However I do not believe he left UH for ONLY the money. I believe him when he said he was frustrated with certain things and I believe as most staunch JJ-only disciples are with the notion that a former AD failed to act and he felt un-appreciated.

Where my point of discontent lies is the fact that while you already placed a downpayment on a new house, you do not turn off the water and leave your solid waste behind in the toilet.

While it wasnt to the degree in which Brian Kelly ABANDONED the student-athletes at Cincinnati, I believe he didnt properly prepare the team as a coach/leader should. Yes, enjoy yourselves in the moment, but he should have owned up to the student-athletes under his “command” and not let them get fed to the lions for the nation to see.

  85. Kevin January 24, 2013 10:34 am

    gobows,

I believe the rumor goes that a former UH player who was on the sidelines noted the snap count issue, related it to the offensive line coach at the time who supposedly relayed it to the HC only to find the HC said nothing in response.

A Grease’ll watch. But, without having watched . . . The questions must certainly remain . . . he almost HAD to have resources ready help him, for starters:

    β€’ Laie pride

    β€’ “Punahou mafia”

    β€’ Notre Dame

Yet, his inclination — after having a good amount of time to think about the situation (heck, five MINUTES would’ve been enough time) — was to lie.

This guy built up to be someone who, if he was between having to lie and a hard place, you would certainly expect him to consult one of his many resources. Resources that wouldn’t have thought twice about helping him get out of a mess. Trusted resources, to him.

    A Grease shrugs.

Some fans have speculated this is the result of Hawaii needing to get out of the BYU home game for the conference championship. Not sure how true these rumors are, but the some with inside knowledge says the situation is fluid.

wolf pack fans are not well informed on the situation… w/o a conference schedule byu has to really hustle to get opponents…plus the agreement between byu and the UH has a clause for the conference championship game. so we should expect the game to be moved, and not cancelled. which I don’t mind (unless that game is played at Aloha) because that’s marathon sunday on dec 8.

AFC team arriving next. Weather was a bit soggy, but lots of fans still came out to cheer their faves.

No doubt we need to keep the game here. I was seeking out our powerfull Media professional, Mr. Tsai for his opinion on the festive atmoshere in the stands.

  98. Shoko January 24, 2013 11:31 am

    93. Yea, you’re right. That so-called “insider” clarified and said his post was just speculation.

How is it that there is a clause in the BYU-Hawaii game when it was scheduled well in advance before there was any mention of a championship game?

  99. redzone January 24, 2013 11:34 am

Lawrence Kansas is a good college town. I hope Reeve is going there for more than football. Never been to Lawrence but I was in Kansas for a while. It gets very cold in the winter. It is a dry kind of cold that really bites. Because it is flat when the wind blows it gets colder. I remember it being 29 below with wind chill where I was. The dry cold really bites. And watch out for those snow drifts. I remember walking one day stepped in a ditch and ended up with snow up to my chin. I had to dig myself out.

  100. jm2375 January 24, 2013 11:41 am

Shoko – #98 – was the game scheduled when BYU was still in the MWC? It’s possible that it was originally an out-clause for BYWho and not UH.

  101. A-House January 24, 2013 11:41 am

Did you notice the sequence the 49ers and Falcons and Seahawks and Ravens and Patriots centers go through before snapping the ball – I believe all look under/between their legs before snapping the ball – some have stronger motion, but will it dictate how a Dline responds?

Guess it could work both ways to draw the Dline offside – like a pause before snapping the ball? Aren’t Dline men taught to watch the ball only – execute when the center’s hand moves.

So far, I have not seen any except those Dline who were really offside or lined up offside.

Best to my knowledge and confirmed by a coach on staff during the 2008 Sugar Bowl that word leaked out to the players, in the locker room just before the game, that the HC was leaving for SMU. JJ did admit that he was contacted by a SMU rep in Oct 2007 about their HC position. Is this not against the rule(s) without getting permission from the school?

  102. Shoko January 24, 2013 11:41 am

Nevermind, it just dawned on me that there is a clause for unforseen changes or developements that might cause Hawaii to get out of the game. I think thats what you meant.

  103. Shoko January 24, 2013 11:44 am

    100. Not sure, but it could have been scheduled years in advance like other games. So, I’m not completely positive BYU was in the MWC when the series of games were scheduled.

Conference schedule for games — just feed all the schools into a computer and ask it to come up with 4 or 5 different scenarios – where are the computer geeks when their needed!!!!!

this should be done year round so there is NO waiting for weeks/months for a schedule – with the conference schedule in place it makes it easier for members to schedule out-of-conf games.

Although it’s no secret that I was never Manti’s biggest fan, I HONESTLY haven’t found much humor at all in his predicament. And, as I’ve said repeatedly, I think his spin doctors were idiotic for dragging this thing out, which only resulted in Manti becoming the butt of so many jokes.

  138. kifi January 24, 2013 2:19 pm

What happened to Barker at UCLA? Are the Bruins yanking schollies from committed recruits?

  139. Former UH Athlete January 24, 2013 2:19 pm

#57… I agree that 5 years is a better time period to give coaches, but in today’s world of college football, AD’s and boosters don’t have the patience to let a coach run the full contract length if things are going in the wrong direction.

I give you a famous (and true) quote:

“Complacency is the enemy of success” — Dave Stutman

There’s too much money at stake to let the football program have one winning season in four years and continue without changes.

Believe me, Mack and his staff would have had a very tough time winning 6 games with the 2012 roster. I do not believe UH would have renewed his contract with only 1 winning season in 5 years. Add on top of that, two embarrassing bowl losses and getting blowout vs BYU to end the 2011 season and fail to earn a bowl bid.

Winning cures a lot of ills, and the 2010 season saved Mack’s job at that point, but when UH fell back to 6-7 in 2011, the co-WAC championship year was viewed as an anomaly vs a step in the right direction.

Change is never pretty… unless you’re Urban Meyer and inherit a roster loaded with 4 and 5 star recruits.

  140. kifi January 24, 2013 2:20 pm

  145. Buffoman January 24, 2013 2:25 pm

I cannot remember in recent times our team being so aggressive in getting players to become Warriors. I like the fact that geography is not a barrier to these coaches, nor do they seem afraid to challenge the “big boys” for a young man’s services.

This class looks very impressive just as it stands. If I were some of the local boys thinking about building a future, they may want to think twice about going away. The coaches have destroyed some of the myths about getting bigger, faster players to come to the islands. Give this team a few more years and it’ll be quite different from what we’ve seen in size, speed, toughness and team discipline.

#78 and #80. We were not going to beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. It was like Notre Dame vs. Alabama. Remember, Georgia only had one loss that year and felt they were supposed to play in the National Championship game. Look at the players they had in that game; Matthew Stafford (No. 1 pick in the draft) and Knoshown Moereno (1st round draft choice), Danell Ellerbe (taking over for Ray Lewis at Baltimore) along with a whole host of superior athletes. As Larry Price used to say, physical superiority beats schemes.

Also, remember the Georgia D linemen got to Colt so fast and the Referee crew never called offside? Well , rermember the SEC reviewed the tapes of the game and suspended the entire crew bc the offsides were so blatant and weren’t called. This reallly damaged our passing game.

JJ will be coming back to coach Hawaii in the future. It is destiny. A little birdie said so.

  149. kifi - Former Slug January 24, 2013 2:36 pm

  150. Buffoman January 24, 2013 2:41 pm

#149 I believe I stated what you stated in your first two paragraphs. I do not disagree. My disenchantment with JJ has more to do with how we showed up or did not show up and the whispers with regard to why we showed up as we did. If those were true whispers I would not want a return of that kind of coach. That’s just my take.

For all you know, your birdie may be correct and I would still cheer on the Warriors as this is our team.

B -Y- hooo update … was this guy mentioned as a possibility?

BYU: Just an update at BYU… Former offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Brandon

Doman will not return. Doman’s a quality coach and person and should have opportunities in

the league or at another quality program (likely as quarterbacks coach).

BYU is being very thorough in searching for the right coaches to finalize the offensive staff. They still have quarterbacks and receivers open. Some very talented coaches such as Paul Peterson (offensive coordinator at Sacramento State), Daren Wilkinson (current CSU Pueblo offensive coordinator / quarterbacks), Max Hall (former BYU quarterback, student assistant last season), Jason Beck (former BYU quarterback and current Simon Fraser OC/QBs) and Steve Clark (Southern Utah offensive coordinator) have all interviewed some more than once. Utah’s Aaron Roderick was set to join the BYU staff at one point; but then opted to stay at Utah. We’ll keep you posted…

    where did MT go?

  154. Former UH Athlete January 24, 2013 2:57 pm

#149: UH’s O-line was out classed badly in the Sugar Bowl. Colt had no chance. Even great QBs struggle when they’re pressured constantly. Sure there were some borderline offsides but Georgia was getting to Brennan without much resistance.

I tore up my $100 moneyline ticket after the 1st quarter because UH had no chance at stopping the pass rush.

The run-n-shoot gets stopped when the defense gets pressure with 3 or 4 rushers. Then they have enough defenders to cover the WRs.

So what do we look like at running back for 2013? Departures etc.?

  181. PurpleMaple January 24, 2013 4:02 pm

Ammon Barker’s veral commitment makes it 6 wide receivers to commit to the Warriors. My first reaction was “Why so many?” But looking at the receiving corp, I would say it was necesary, especially if the Warriors are to continue to pass as they did this past season. With Graham under the gun, then he will have enough targets. So no excuses.

  182. kapakahi January 24, 2013 4:02 pm

Anyone know Joey Anglemire recruiting status? I actually thought he might have been the best O linemen in the state this past year at high school level. But undersized so I don’t know his ceiling as far as D1 football. Seems like a perfect fit for one of the Military schools

  211. Former UH Athlete January 24, 2013 5:22 pm

#182… The 2012 WR corp was terrible in all aspects of the position. Short, slow, couldn’t separate and tons of dropped passes (I think 6 TD drops and several drive killing 3rd down drops). 6 WR commits is completely necessary. Stutzman was the only decent WR last season and is probably still slated to start, but will need a good spring and even better fall camp to keep his starting job.

The better the competition in practice, the better the product on game day.

#209… Totally agree, but at the guard positions. Griffin (OT) and Clarke (C) are locks. Can’t remember if the other OT spot is up for grabs. I was just saying that the LBs and the DBs battles will get the attention.

Basically, the whole offense, other than Griffin, Clarke and Vele (FB) are battles for who gets to start. Graham is projected as the front runner, but Woosley should put up a good fight also.

  212. al January 24, 2013 5:24 pm

    #211,

Rolo & Nevada coaches had home visit during early part of last season…..when Wolf Pack played Warriors here…..but last I heard no offer thus far…..trip, scholarship or otherwise.

Supposed to have offer from Army and some interest from some lower-tier FBS schools, but also some firm FCS offers thus far. Very good pass-pro technique but not yet real physical…..especially with run blocking…..but also still physically developing.

  218. kapakahi January 24, 2013 5:58 pm

    #214,

    Gotta agree.

CWM struggled with injuries and with adjusting to the “old school” coaching methods last season.

If not for injuries to Lefotu & Sai last season, mighta not gotten his chance for any PT at both OG positions last season……for which he turned in some solid performances IMHO. Arceneaux and Veneri agreed too with their game commentary & analysis.

    Retirement Advice:

If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock, you would have $49.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of wine one year ago, drunk all the wine, then turned in the bottles

for the recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Let people you care about know this… and tell them to start now!!!

I am passing this information on as a public service . . . there is no need to thank me.

I want to believe because of the emotional attachment and yet …

Except I am not Japanese but still I have brought disgrace to the family name and let me see how to get out of this hole. Without revealing that I have been taken – and maybe she lives! – let me investigate without letting people know that I am a fool.

After the couric interview, I still think Teo is a big liar….too many holes in his stories and he was emotionless and robotic, rehearsed.

Indeed, There are even MORE questions after that interview.

Throughout his NFL career, Te’o will be thanking God for this and that.

Why didn’t he pray to God for an answer on how to deal with this issue. That’s the one thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet — did he pray to God for guidance? He’ll tell you he does this with else, probably.

A Mormon . . . who attended a Catholic university. But, no inclination toward asking God for guidance. Either that or God told him to lie. (which Te’o admits to)

  261. Kevin January 25, 2013 8:22 am

Congrats again to Laura Beeman and her ladies on the hardcourt. Good PG play and good free throw shooting. Any coach struggling in these areas should take notes and their discriminant selective fans should do so as well.

  264. Kevin January 25, 2013 8:28 am

    DPK,

Indeed. Its funny how it must get some people’s blood boiling that a program they do not respect is doing so well.

Coach Beeman has taken big strides this season and made the right personnel changes to get this program in the 2nd place spot in the Big West.

Granted some adjustments will nee to be made on road games as they have lost the first ones but they have also won their share on the road.

  265. Kevin January 25, 2013 8:30 am

manti te’o is not the first young man to have been taken advantage of and did not know of what, when, where, or how to deal with this. perhaps he might be the latest well known victim and only because of his national prominence did much notoriety surround this situation.

the bottom line now is that he finally came around to face the truth. i am sure that God has forgiven him, after all He of the second chance, isn’t it time that you lay this to rest?

  274. Kevin January 25, 2013 8:48 am

    Annoddah Dave,

There are many things WRONG with human nature.

But when you express opinion in a flippy floppy method and its not even funny. You’re hiding something and have issues.

Plus when you are not a half Samoan half African American former Miami U football player, turned WWE superstar, turned movie star and you write in the 3rd person, you’re an idiot.

  275. Buffoman January 25, 2013 8:49 am

On another subject, did Manti go on his mission? If not, when will he? Don’t all folks have to do that to be a part of the church? Just wondering since a bunch of our Warriors of that same church have gone, are on or will be going on the mission. Two year commitment?

coming soon…search committee to hire new coach for the UH mens basketball.

Don’t say that. Bumbai people will then react illogically by wanting a winning program off TV in a failed attempt to hide their disdain for female student-athletes at UH and their coaches.

    Whoops… too late.

@#277 jimmy: I think in animals, especially males during rutting season, it is all about “me”. Human males are often characterized by the female of the species as being constantly in a “rut”!

Manti made the strong emotional tie to someone he never met seem more compelling than the love for his grandmother. why did Manti do that? at the heisman, when ESPN interviewed him, he talked about losing his gf when he should have talked about his grandmother.

  284. Kevin January 25, 2013 9:03 am

Being an illeist is fine, but at least Elmo is on TV and is a merchandise machine with the kids and LeBron James has net worth.

Two individuals CONTRIBUTING to something … anything in society.

Illeists that contribute nothing at all should just … well.. “end it”.

    Make room for the rest.

Laura Beeman has the luxury of being able to rely on local talents like Kuehu, Tagilcod (spelled wrong sorry)and Adolpho.

Gib does not.. I wish HI would produce more D1 mens basketball talent.. Mens basketball is the ONLY Uh sport that can’t build a solid foundation on local talent.

    http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/20707793/hawaii-five-0-star-bashes-islands-on-late-night-talk-show

In an appearance on popular late night talk show Chelsea Lately, Scott Caan, one of the stars of CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot, had a few not-so flattering things to say about living in the islands where the show is filmed.

Caan, who portrays Danny “Danno” Williams, was talking about his girlfriend with Chelsea Handler, the show’s host, when she asked him if the couple liked living in Hawaii.

“No, I don’t and she doesn’t either,” Caan said. “Everything is very slow motion. Everything is too relaxed for me. I like to hustle, and there’s no hustle there.”

From drug problems to surfing, Caan had few positive things to say about Hawaii.

“Surfing in Hawaii is different. It’s more like survival,” said Caan. “They ask you β€˜How was your surf?’ and you say β€˜I made it.'”

Caan also said the food in Hawaii “sucks.”

I, jimmy the lock, obtained insight by hinted individual(s). I quess it just comes down to style and personality, everyone is unique, what may irritate, frustrate, or confuse some may actually be entertaining and beneficial to others. Hmmmm, plenty commas.

Breathe deep then bypass or laugh and enjoy.

  290. Kevin January 25, 2013 9:12 am

    JV,

That is one interesting point, but right now, Laura Beeman and her staff are just simply more effective at getting the results they want out of their roster.

I know what you mean. No can help though, life is too enjoyable to let things like that bother me. And Scott Caan, enjoy your 5-0 role. And when the show is over, move back to the continent and take a bunch of lava rocks with you.

Bello may not be the best player on the team, but I think a player should be given minutes when the game is at hand as the last one was, but she did not see any game time. Last year, I went to the Nevada game and Bello had a significant role in the win. I think she excited the crowd. Plus, for that game, I brought leis for the team. Not many, but five leis. I stood there while the players seemed to not see me or were shy to come forward for a lei, except for Bello. She saw what was happending and approached me, so I gave her all the leis to pass out to the players. That was nice. Oh yeah, Rebecca Dew was the single player that came to me for a lei. That too was nice. For this reason, I will always be a Bello fan.

  308. redzone January 25, 2013 9:37 am

Coach Beeman has also used Vicky at the point. She has made player adjustments depending upon who they are playing and how well players are performing. She built this team on defense and now that they have the offense going I think that they can beat any team in the BW. This team has come a long way.

I like Bello too and wish she would get more playing time too. The guards the Wahines have are taller and physical. The team is not relying on the three pointers too much this year.

To her credit, Kanisha is leading the cheers from the bench and is the ultimate team player.

Hmmmmmmmm, head mauka on Kapiolani eh!

now let’s see – Kapiolani runs DH to EWA or vice versa – yet, for short distances, you can really travel in a mauka direction – the “eastern end” from Date St to King/Kapiolani intersection you are sorta heading “mauka” – conversely, on the Ewa end from Kapiolani/Kalakaua intersection, you will be going a “mauka” direction to Beretania/Kapiolani intersection.

dang, McGarret knew his way around Honolulu back in the 60s.
