Former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier confirmed reports that he will visit Hawaii this weekend.

“Yep,” Forcier told the WB. “I’m going to do it this weekend.”

The Warriors have launched the Heisman Trophy campaign for quarterback Bryant Moniz with a Facebook page.

Here’s the link: Bryant Moniz for Heisman.

And the site features a cool video: Moniz video.

Heralded recruit, cornerback Mike Edwards, has arrived in Manoa — two weeks before the start of training camp.

Last night, he texted the WB: “Just landed.”

Later, he texted: “It’s a great feeling. I feel like I’m going to be with my second family. It’s going to be a great journey.”

Remember Joey Lipp? The former UH offensive lineman is helping an organization that promotes clean-water projects in the newly created Southern Sudan.

Here’s a link to the group’s work: Clean Water.

Congrats to former UH cornerback Jameel Dowling and his wife, Pua, a former UH cheerleader. They welcomed their second child. Jameel plays for the Las Vegas Locos of the UFL.

And happy birthday to Mark Rodrigues.

    Congratulations on your safe arrival.

Where do single student-athletes live? In a dorm? Jammed up with four or five others in an off-campus apartment?

Maybe we should raise funds for build a student-athlete dormatory with a separate wing for married or in civil unions (remember the new law covers heterosexual couples).

Anyhow – only 47 days to First Kick-Off.

I got my URL from the Twitter button; but I noticed this URL redirects. Hmm, interesting.

  30. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 6:26 am

I think Tank Hopkins will have a big year.

  33. haka July 18, 2011 6:31 am

ST, to take it further, I think we are all in for a BIG year in UH sports!

    GO HAWAII!

  34. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 6:35 am

And it all begins at the box office today.

  35. Eagle July 18, 2011 6:39 am

    Mike Edwards

    Aloha, Welcome !

    Glad you’re here !

    Have a Great Year !

    Shut-Down, Turnover, Scoring ‘D’ !

  36. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 6:45 am

I think Scott Harding arrives this week, too.

  37. haka July 18, 2011 6:48 am

Yes, everyone needs to put their okoles in the seats! We may have to pick and choose our battles, but there is no better way to support than to be there! And I would expect that the harshest critics be the biggest supporters! Just saying…

  38. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 6:58 am

    This years slogan

“Get your okole in the seat”

    thx haka

  39. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 6:59 am

One of our writers had another engagement.

So I got summoned to write a side story on a basketball game.

It was quite a game … Chaminade beating No. 1 Virginia.

    Happy birthday, Mark Rodrigues.

  40. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:03 am

Remember that ticket-selling slogan, which was something like: We’re in it together.

That originated from a comment a UH worker made to HF.

A few years later, it became a slogan.

For future royalty purposes, let’s remember CoolEthan/Haka coming up with: “Get Your Okole In The Seat.”

  41. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:06 am

They could become the next Pat Riley.

    From Wikipedia:

Three-peat is a contraction of the words three and repeat, which has been trademarked for commercial use by retired basketball coach Pat Riley; the active trademarks in force are registered under numbers 1552980, 1878690, and 1886018. (A fourth registration, #1977620, expired in 2003). It is used either as a verb or noun used in American sports to refer to winning a third championship in a row.

  42. warriorsun July 18, 2011 7:08 am

eh, mike. im tired of watching your high school game clips, spectacular as they were. we need to restock your 2011 highlight-inventory at hawaii. keep your sights high. see you at camp and hana ho (encore, do it again) as a warrior! aloha and welcome to our ohana.

  43. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 7:11 am

    Here’s the prob.

They ( UH ) want to have both pieces of the pie.

Tix prices going UP with the intention of filling more seats.

    Doesn’t work.

  44. BG July 18, 2011 7:13 am

Good morning folks! Welcome Eagle…have you posted here before? The invitation is always open for Warrior fans!

  45. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 7:13 am

    Reminds me of Keynesian economics.

    Failure

  46. warriorsun July 18, 2011 7:13 am

    #40

ahhh, the shorts of long past. what a game that was!

  48. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:14 am

    CoolEthan:

They’re going to announce PPV plans today or tomorrow. That should have an impact on decisions.

  49. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 7:15 am

    # 41 – :>

And they can get Wet Okole seat covers involved at the home games.

Would those things fit inside the potato gun that shoots the t-shirts into the stands?

    Ha

  50. haka July 18, 2011 7:16 am

    #41

Ha! Bet that won’t sell at Syracuse!

  51. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 7:18 am

So Syracuse also brings on Floyd Little into management decisions as assitant to HF ?

    http://blog.syracuse.com/sports/2011/05/floyd_little_joins_syracuse_un.html

  52. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:23 am

Floyd Little. That’s going back some. Great running back.

  53. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:24 am

Syracuse has a wonderful broadcast journalism program.

Orange should squeeze some help from those alumni

  54. warriorsun July 18, 2011 7:25 am

  56. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 7:42 am

    Hi folks.

    Sunny morning here in Hilo.

Thank goodness there is internet available in my hotel room.

    $10.94 per day.

I was hoping to hear news about PPV today. Shucks.

  58. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 7:45 am

    d1shima,

we dined at Cafe Pesto last night.

    EXCELLENT!

Hubby ordered the 3 beer sampler and I had a glass of Spanish sparkling wine.

    Will post pics tonight.

ST, mahalo. but I dont know how to text.

  61. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 7:48 am

I have a cell phone, but use it just for emergencies.

  62. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 7:49 am

    Gigi:

Sound like a co-worker who only uses the cell to make calls.

After he makes a call, he’ll turn the cell off.

  63. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 7:51 am

    That does sound like me.

When I stalled on the freeway, a cop came and ordered me to buy a cell phone.

  64. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 7:54 am

Kawika, I ate the Big Island cookies you gave me for breakfast today.

    a good….GOOD morning to all!

wow, that close to training camp and ……………Huskies??!!

‘get your okole in the seat’…..hmmmmm, guess it could sit well?

  68. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 18, 2011 8:02 am

    Transcripts Transcripts and more Transcripts.

Are they in the box yet?

  69. CoolEthan July 18, 2011 8:08 am

Actually, might regress that slogan term about the okole in the seats.

Has a desperate tone to it and negative connotation.

How about ” Win a trip to Las Vegas, compliments of Hawaiian Air”

Every tix stub enters your chance, only 50,000 – 1 the odds

Heck, thats better than any lotto.

  70. ya_think July 18, 2011 8:11 am

  72. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 18, 2011 8:17 am

I heard there are going to be a couple of blog spies looking out for the guy this week. Well at least that’s what I was told. Not sure if it is from this blog or from other message boards.

This reminds me of that show on Discovery Channel…”Finding Bigfoot” lol

That’s why we have the little bird. Wait…does the bird wear glasses too? Damn.

  96. Bowwar July 18, 2011 9:58 am

Harkening back to JJ’s years and ideas…They should come up with a “simple” haka that the fans can all stand-up to prior to the opening kick-off to salute the visiting team and charge our Warriors. Something like that Samoan cheer that Farrington did the old days but more refined. Vili could appear on the scoreboard to lead the fan haka!

  97. HEIENEKN July 18, 2011 9:59 am

    Joe Schad?

  98. Bowwar July 18, 2011 9:59 am

Advanced planning…How do I get tickets to sit with the UH fans for the Nevada game. Flying up to Reno may proved to be a better experience than UNLV especially since the game may decide the WAC title this year.

  99. HEIENEKN July 18, 2011 10:00 am

Im guessing if anything is official , we would here it out of Joe Schad mouth first

  100. HEIENEKN July 18, 2011 10:01 am

    Stephen Tsai:

    July 18th, 2011 at 9:00 am

Mo just called. With the H-2 closed, he’s not coming into town today.

He did not know about the Camp Award, so thanks for the tip, Huh.

Apparently student-athletes are not always aware of what honors/awards they are given sometimes.

Especially the conference awards or recognition…

It’s like “oh, wow, thanks! I had no idea!”

Guess the WAC doesn’t issue out a lot of individual trophies or plaques.

  112. Gmahoney via Ipad July 18, 2011 10:45 am

One hour and 49 minutes later, my friend, my brother and I will have “our okoles in da seats”. Whoo-hoo, now I am ready for some football!

  113. Kevin July 18, 2011 10:45 am

And yes I know they’re not supposed to receive awards while student-athletes..

Wonder if the WAC ever forgot to give some out after a student-athlete’s eligibility is over? Probably…

  114. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 10:46 am

    Kevin:

I don’t think they pay attention to watch lists.

Now, if somebody is handing out hardware …

  115. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 10:48 am

    Kevin:

Hmmm. Interesting point. If a junior wins the Heisman, but decides to return for his senior year, does he have to wait a year to get his Heisman replica?

  116. Kevin July 18, 2011 11:38 am

    ST,

NCAA’s rules makes it seem like they do have to wait.

Like you mentioned, I don’t think they care much.

I assume the same is for those end of the year WAC award plaques and stuff. So do “Freshman of the Year” have to wait 3 more years to see their award again?

    Wouldn’t be surprised.

Guess I could ask, never really cared to ask, so I guess really I too don’t care much? 😆

  117. LizKauai -iPad July 18, 2011 11:39 am

    By the way, no update.

At least, I think there’s no update.

I don’t think I can go to the football office and ask: Any mail today?

Liz, with the price of single tickets, you might as well get the season tickets, then sell the ones you cannot use. Just sayin’.

    ST:

#117 – did not Tebow receive his trophy in his Sophmore year? or, was it his Junior year? not of import, but the committee “added” rushing TDs to the “qualification list” thus enabling him to win the heisman.

remember the RB from Ohio State who won back to back Heismans? recall seeing a pic with him holding 2 trophys.

  127. d1shima July 18, 2011 12:19 pm

    Archie Griffin

  128. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 12:19 pm

Just talked to Tate. He confirmed he’s coming this weekend.

  129. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 12:22 pm

I suppose it will be another 10 days before I hear from him again. But, hey, I made the callback list. I might be No. 174 . . .

  130. warriorsun July 18, 2011 12:26 pm

actually the 38 second heisman film clip of moniz was well done. moniz does a voice over extolling his pride in being native hawaiian and representing the state of hawaii. the bite ends dramatically with a single shot of moniz standing on the foredeck of the uss missouri with her 16″ guns standing at attention in the background. great job by uhad and consultants.

  131. al July 18, 2011 12:26 pm

at least you made the top…200?

no worries. if he commits to hawaii you’ll be his best friend.

  132. al July 18, 2011 12:29 pm

so the date with tate will become a reality after all.

i suppose this will quell the ground swelling of recent pundits who thought all this was hype and shibai.

  133. al July 18, 2011 12:30 pm

although i like young david graves…i don’t blame rolo and mack for continuing the quest for the holy grail.

  134. al July 18, 2011 12:32 pm

    back to the new roster.

    two things are very evident.

one, the new guys exercised the two inch rule during the recruiting phase.

two, the sports info department has a short yard stick.

three, they were instructed to publish shorter heights to fool the opponents come game day.

  135. warriorsun July 18, 2011 12:34 pm

who cares about hype, shibai or pundits? that is so juvi.

most fans are focused on our inaugural mwc debut and who will replace moniz. forcier is part of that intrigue, which btw, has boosted blogsite numbers and interest in our warrior program….

  136. Garret July 18, 2011 12:41 pm

It is nice that Forcier has set the dates of his 2 recruiting visits. Assuming that SJSU doesn’t close the deal during his visit there on Wednesday, UH gets to be his final visit and Mack/Rolo should be able to convince him if they want to.

SJSU bringing him in indicates that he’s passed the NCAA bar, since they said that they wouldn’t have him visit if he wasn’t qualified. ST said earlier that UH just wanted the transcript before the recruiting visit, and that the visit wouldn’t necessarily mean that he was qualified.

  137. madeinhawaii July 18, 2011 12:41 pm

The WAC Sports Network named their football announcers for this season.

The WAC Sports Network (WSN) announced today that celebrated broadcaster Barry Tompkins and former NCAA coach Joe Glenn will comprise the football broadcast team for its nine games slated this season.

UH will be shown on one of the 9 WSN broadcasts:

Fresno State at Hawaii (Nov. 19)

    Kendrick Van Ackeren is 5-11?

why all the bull and intended mis-information?

just list accurate physical stats (if they took them).

one-to-two inches either way on paper aint going to produce more receptions, tds, blocks or tackles….unless we are playing x-box.

  143. warriorsun July 18, 2011 12:47 pm

    3140.

that wasnt my point….but, you’d be surprised mr al.

  144. Garret July 18, 2011 12:47 pm

Number of times the WSN will show each WAC team:

    5 Nevada

    4 Fresno State

    3 Idaho

    2 NMSU, SJSU

    1 UH, Utah State

    *0* La Tech

The WAC sure wants to show off Nevada and Fresno State while they can…but I don’t understand why they exclude La Tech completely and don’t care about UH nearly as much as Nevada/Fresno State.

  145. al July 18, 2011 12:47 pm

143…there’s nearly half a dozen subject to the two inch rule.

Where/what the heck is Fiesta Henderson Casino and buffet lunch for $7?

Found it–almost directly south of Sam Boyd stadium, and updated my Vegas map. Learned Fiesta Henderson is part of the Station Casino chain– Palace Station, Boulder Station, etc. Web site shows $4.99 with their casino card but maybe no one would believe that from Rasu. 🙂 Updated info at:

We did tee off at 7. Got trapped in the traffic. Stuck for 45 minutes in Mililani before I turned around and went to

    ST – iCloud — http://www.apple.com/icloud/

Neat idea but I’m concerned about bandwidth limits and cost (I don’t have unlimited plans). But it will untether your mobile device (iTouch, iPhone, iPad, etc) from any particular computer or program (iTunes). Kinda like how cell phones untethered you from the fixed locations of wired phones.

I am on the sidelines and watching. Too old and conservative to jump in yet.

online purchases limit the seats available to non-premium seats. if you want the good stuff you need to go down in person or call the box office.

the premium seats come with a price tag though. call 944-2697. i think they would let you exchange your seats.

or if you want the really good seats you need to call (808) 956-6500 of course these come with a much higher premium.

  192. tommui July 18, 2011 2:38 pm

Glad to hear that Tate will be coming to visit – makes UH look good even though he may decide to go elsewhere.

In the days of yore, we had a basketball player named Henry Hollingsworth. He was listed as a 5’11” guard.

Before age and operations got me, I was 5’9″.

Henry was a bit shorter than I was. And so when I asked him about it, he said that all basketball players sort of make themselves 2″ higher than they really are.

It may be like the license people who take your word as to you height, eye color etc. I don’t imagine that the sports information people take out a tape memeasure to see how tall you really are and just put down what you tell them. I mean if a player says that his favorites are James Joyce, Bach and Bartok, what are you going to say?

  193. LizKauai July 18, 2011 2:41 pm

I agree, ST. Bravo to Mr. Lipp. Our Rotary clubs support water projects all over the world. Water, food, education… and quiet enjoyment. Basic human rights.

SteveM- I’m looking forward to iCloud. Hope it is customizable. Sick and tired of having to delete dupes because I share info with home and work computers and have had that accursed Entourage to work with. Moved to all Apple apps and away from Entourage to see if that will help eventually.

    HiHo!

  196. LizKauai July 18, 2011 2:47 pm

  197. al July 18, 2011 2:57 pm

lava…it will be interesting to see with whom mack/rolo pairs forcier with on his visit. those guys will have as much influence on the final decision as would mack and rolo.

a couple of years ago a high profile running back, kenny turner with a storied past came in for an official visit. the guy really wanted to come to hawaii as his choices had narrowed down to nmsu and uh. his numbers were out of this world.

however, on his visit the guys who hosted him came back with a poor assessment of his personality/character etc. he seemed to have an “i, me, and myself” attitude about him. from this, kenny turner was turned down by mack and company.

any guy coming in with that attitude will be snuffed out and not offered a scholie.

  210. Kevin July 18, 2011 3:25 pm

I personally think, and I might not be alone on this, but Colt Brennan was “cocky”, however to what degree is open for discussion and interpretation.

The degree of cockiness some claim he had while with Washington, I cannot comment on, but while playing for Hawaii, it was necessary, again, to a degree.

I think Rolo might be the first to admit, a QB MUST have a sense of swagger and an attitude of confidence that borders on “arrogance” to run this offense to it’s maximum. Slinging the ball around the way we do, you have to think you are the s***. You have to believe you are the effin man when you are throwing the ball as many times as we do.

Remember that Purdue game, when Brennan threw a TD and ran along side the Purdue bench yelling stuff at them afterwards, while that MIGHT have drawn a flag, that’s the kind of stuff that a QB in our system must possess.

Now, Moniz, outwardly doesn’t display that brash attitude during games, but it depends from one person to another I guess.

High-powered/flashy offense needs to have it’s trigger man reflect those same qualities.

And they also need to go to class. 😎

You missed a good one at Nancy’s. Some seasoned citizens that you rarely see were there. The most colorfolk golfer on the island was there! A-Joe regaled us with very graphic stories. Myki was there showing off. Like a fine wine, she is aging very well…29 never looked so good!

Dean was on a prison break from fence paiting duty as discussing Warrior football was priority one.

Me and BG were listening to Ralph’s strategy for fundraising. Basically, he plans to shake us down for about 25 Large. I’m glad it’ll on an annual basis and not monthly!

Kevin – agreed, top athletes have to have “a sense of swagger” and “attitude of confidence”, top athletes in all sports. its especially important for key players of a team, none more than as QB.

btw – i’ve always wondered the difference between ‘cockyness’ and ‘confidence’ as it pertains to athletes? don’t know the answer but i’ve settled on…………it becomes cocky once your confidence is verbalized.

  215. Kevin July 18, 2011 3:57 pm

Even then that’s a gray area.

I think it depends on how people perceive it. Lots of student-athletes say things that can be mis-interpreted as cockiness, but if you are remotely familiar with them you can stand up and say “no, they’re just confident” as well, but that won’t matter to those judging and saying otherwise.

So I don’t think there is a real way to try to “define” what is confidence and cockiness, it’s too open to interpretation for the most part.

Sports fans like to be right no matter what.

Speaking as a male, talking about sports is a kin to whipping out your “da kine” and saying mine stay biggah. So wot?!?!? Like tro???

C’mon guys, let’s admit it, no bull**** yourselves.

  218. haka July 18, 2011 4:15 pm

On field cockiness is such cockamamy, cocksure nonsense because in Hawaii it’s not how loud your cock-a doodle-doo is; it’s all about how big da cockroaches are at YOUR house!

  219. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 4:24 pm

  223. bigislandkurt July 18, 2011 4:44 pm

In the world of D1 revenue-producing NCAA College football, I’ll take a cocky WINNING QB anyday over a humble, average nice guy who wins some and loses more. In this world, Winning cures all.

THat may not go over too well initially with the fans in this land of Aloha where humility and nice nice-ness tend to trump all. But win a few big games and the fans will soon forget about such alleged cockiness. Hell, they’ll even celebrate you punting the ball into the stands when the hometeam is up by 40!

    BIK

Robert Kekaula to handle UH football play by play for Oceanic.

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/125787683.html

  227. Kevin July 18, 2011 5:01 pm

I don’t completely buy into the fact that “cocky” athletes, even student athletes aren’t “over” with the fans of Hawaii.

Sure we preach Aloha and humility, BUT look at the make up of sports fans in Hawaii. All professional sports-oriented people. Take 20 random people off the street and more will know about what high school LeBron James went to than those that can name 2 people on the UH football roster EXCEPT for Bryant Moniz.

With that being said, the cockiness of professional sports athletes is the norm whether the majority of people want to admit it or not, they crave and worship this stuff, but the DOUBLE-STANDARD is when it’s their own, like a local born player or a UH student-athlete oh shame eh….

C’mon people admit it… but it would be hard. On this blog we are the MINORITY, if we weren’t would we constantly be complaining about why the stadium is never sold out???

The majority of the general sports fan in Hawaii gets their mindset from watching the professional game. The majority disregards the academics and humble nature that student-athletes live and train by. The majority will want to dig deep and find out all the dirt behind a UH student-athlete with NO regard for them being someone else’s daughter or son.

So with that being said, I think there is room for an arrogant type of athlete when it comes to the MAJORITY of Hawaii sports fans.

  228. haka July 18, 2011 5:02 pm

    interesting decisions regarding oceanic announcers…hmmmm

  229. madeinhawaii July 18, 2011 5:03 pm

Robert Kekaula has been named the play-by-play voice for Oceanic Time Warner’s coverage of University of Hawaii football this year, it was confirmed today.

Kekaula, heretofore a color commentator on KKEA radio, will be joined by color commentators Darren Hernandez and Nate Ilaoa on Oceanic’s pay-per-view and soon-to-debut UH Channel.

They replace Jim Leahey, Shawn Ching and Russell Yamanoha …

  231. Kevin July 18, 2011 5:14 pm

Mike Machado, Leila Wai and Jessica Domingo will handle UH soccer.

  232. Hiflyer July 18, 2011 5:16 pm

I don’t know about keeping Leahey to call the Wahine volleyball games, I think the game is just to fast for him or it maybe like someone mentioned it is the spotters.

  233. Kevin July 18, 2011 5:16 pm

Wait.. Darren Hernandez as in Kapolei coach Darren Hernandez right?

Umm… would this interfere with his football season???

  251. el burro sabio July 18, 2011 7:08 pm

The difference between confident and cocky: our guy is confident, your guy is cocky.

And for those who wanted someone other than Jim to do football (me included), look what we’re stuck with now.

  252. Laura July 18, 2011 7:09 pm

  253. Laura July 18, 2011 7:13 pm

Gigi, did you swim with the dolphins, yet.

  254. Curt July 18, 2011 7:53 pm

Gigi should have no problem swimming with the dolphins. After all on the Warrior Beat, she swims with the sharks…and holds her own.

  255. Curt July 18, 2011 8:00 pm

Mike Edwards: Welcome to Hawaii and the Warrior ohana. We look forward to your exploits on the field.

  256. bigislandkurt July 18, 2011 8:08 pm

Awesome news coming out of the OC16 camp. Time to signal in a new era of warrior football! I’ve always enjoyed Kekaula’s coverage — he is not to be sold short — bradduh knows his stuff. Can’t speak much about Hernandez, but I’m sure stoked to hear of Nate Ilaoa handling sideline duties. Nate is well-spoken and smart. I think he’ll make excellent contributions to the team.

    BIK

  257. bigislandkurt July 18, 2011 8:09 pm

Cocky is ok, so long as he’s our cocky player. Case in point? Greg Salas chirped after nearly every play. Nobody would really call him on it — why? He was ours!

    BIK

  258. Curt July 18, 2011 8:10 pm

Great to hear that Tate will be visiting this weekend. Hard to believe that Tate has narrowed his choices to 2-3 schools and they’re all in the WAC…for now. I would’ve thought that he would’ve gone to a BCS school if he could. Could it be that there wasn’t any interest from even one BCS school? That would be hard to believe.

  259. RedZone July 18, 2011 8:22 pm

The princess is going to be doing soccer.

  260. Garret July 18, 2011 8:34 pm

Looks like the lockout will officially be over this week. I think that it is great that they are limiting the crazy contracts to unproven rookies and shifting that $1 bil to pensions. The retired players (especially those that played before the money grew significantly and/or have major health problems) can use that money and the rookies will still make millions on guaranteed dollars.

A clear indication of what’s in the works came Monday when the league told team executives they should be prepared to be schooled on the details of a new labor agreement.

The new deal will significantly reduce the money paid to rookies selected at the top of the draft, and reportedly will earmark $1 billion in additional pensions and benefits for retired players.

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-farmer-nfl-labor-20110719,0,620841.story

  261. Garret July 18, 2011 8:35 pm

Looks like the NFL will finance new stadiums in LA, San Diego, and the Bay Area.

Even if players no longer provide owners with credits against the salary cap for investing in new stadiums, an exception could be made for potential California stadium projects in L.A., the Bay Area and San Diego — a shared investment by owners and players that eventually would be repaid by teams playing in those new stadiums.

  262. Stephen Tsai July 18, 2011 8:37 pm

You guys will like Nate Ilaoa.

He’s a very funny, funny guy.

    Smart, too.

  263. Laura July 18, 2011 8:44 pm

Can ST and the Princess be doing another sports show on the UH Channel, hmmmm. 🙂

  264. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 8:46 pm

  265. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 8:47 pm

Who decided on the hires? Was it JD?

  268. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 8:53 pm

Laura, hubby saw the lava tube.

I declined b/c it was raining and my legs hurt from hiking to Akaka Falls.

  269. Laura July 18, 2011 8:54 pm

cocky is okay, its used as arsenal

sports competition is a mind game

    its a battle of wills

when the games a forgone conclusion replace cockiness with humlity..preserve sportmanship.

a golfer up by 10 strokes at the seventeenth hole i wouldnt think would rub it in the faces of his competitiors by doing a cartwheel and chirping incessantly after sinking a routine putt.

likewise with a team scoring it seventy point and leading its rival by 30 points late in the game i wouldnt expect a player to kick the ball out of the end zone after scoring, in putting down the team on the losing end.

  277. A-joe July 18, 2011 9:32 pm

  280. al July 18, 2011 10:03 pm

the big guy will be doing mbb, too.

papa and pal will do baseball.

  281. al July 18, 2011 10:08 pm

i was reminded by a certain well known local sportswriter who has a blog that a couple of inches in height is not as important as an athlete’s reach is.

we had a 6’8″ pf recently who had short arms/reach and was outrebounded repeatedly by 6’6″ players with much longer reach.

recently i was told there was a guy with a long head who got outrebounded and blocked often by much smaller guys.

  282. al July 18, 2011 10:09 pm

one’s vertical jump also negates height in some cases.

  283. jm2375 July 18, 2011 10:12 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos!

A-joe – agree with you on those d$mn ads. 😈 Would rather see a sans serif font like the ubiquitous Arial instead of Times New Roman.

gigi – Spanish sparkling wine, as in sparkling cider? Close to Asti Spumanti. Sold in grocery stores in Spain for about $5.

6 hrs Hilo to Waikoloa? You driving at 10mph? Should only take 2 hrs. Just don’t go driving by ranch lands when it’s pitch black, you never know what you might run into, literally. (Hint, moooooooooooooooooooooo)

  284. Curt July 18, 2011 10:13 pm

    Inches do matter.

  285. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 18, 2011 10:14 pm

    That’s what she said.

  286. gigi-hawaii July 18, 2011 10:20 pm

    Jm,

140 miles plus rest stops and photo opps = 6 hrs

    per hubby.

he plans to rest each hr. so his legs don’t lock under the steering wheel.

we’ll see who is right lol

hilo to waikoloa via the scenic waimea route passing by tex’s drive inn in honoka’a and their infamous stuffed malasadas and a meal opportunity at hawaiian style cafe in waimea will take you one and a half hours plus stopover time traveling a little more than 70 miles.

hilo to waikoloa via saddle road will also take you about an hour and a half going about 70 miles again.

i hope hubby is not thinking of going south along the coast line to waikoloa. major mistake.

  293. al July 18, 2011 11:05 pm

  294. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 18, 2011 11:07 pm

How come no one here mentions Don Robbs – and Scott as his occasional color guy. We go to most of the home games and listen to 1420 unless we’re someplace where it would be rude to be listening to the radio. It never occurs to me to dvd the games because I just don’t like the sound of Leahy’s voice plus he really doesn’t understand baseball like Don does.

We also listen to the football radio broadcasts while we’re there in the Stadium because it’s impossible to really see the details of the plays from the stands – maybe next time I should have zoom lenses implanted in my eyeballs.

Greetings! I would just like to give a huge thumbs up for the awesome information contained in this post. I will be exploring more of your blog for some more awesome information soon.

  305. A-joe July 19, 2011 2:09 am

Come on, Al, nothing wrong with going through Ka’u to get to Waikoloa.

Gigi- tell hubby you wanna go south where you can:

-Go and see the only Volcano in world that you can walk up to, safely watch and not get covered by it.

-Work your way down to Pahala. Go up to the shopping center, take a picture next to the brand new Bank of Hawaii sign and tell everyone in town that you know their hometown A-joe that built that sign.

-Sneak over to Mizuno Superette and buy yourself some world renown Ka’u Coffee.

-Get back on the highway and head down to the only public accessed Black Sand Beach in the state; Punalu’u. Take some pics with turtles in the bay and ones basking in the sun.

-Drive on down further south and head onto the Southern most town in all of the United States: Na’alehu. Go to the ball park and grab yourself something to eat at Donna Hanoa’s place. Tell ‘um A-joe n BIK sent you both.

-before you exit Na’alehu head on over across the street to the Punalu’u Sweet Bread Bake shop. The manager there, Connie, is my classmate. Tell her A-joe and BIK sent you. Make sure you grab a variety of sweetbreads and cookies available. Even Malasadas!

-If hubby is looking to toss back a quick cold one, stop on by Shaka’s restaurant at the edge of Na’alehu. Go in and ask for the owner, Rory. Tell ‘um A-joe and BIK sent you.

-As you’re heading out of Na’alehu you’ll enter into Mark Twain’s favorite hideaway: Waiohinu. If you need supplies like cold drinks and snacks for the long journey to Waikoloa stop on by Wong Yuen Store. Go in and ask for Jack, the owner. Tell him A-joe and BIK sent you.

-A few miles down from Waiohinu is the southern most tip in the united states: South Point. It’s long narrow two lane road down from the highway. The scenery is beautiful. Open and vast. If you and hubby feel up to it, take a chance and jump off the cliffs and into the Pacific. Hahahahahahahahaha!!

Drive back up and head towards Kona. You’ll pass the newest and southern most national park in the united states: Volcano National Park- Kahuku. Just beyond Kahuku NP is a huge lava field which holds the world’s largest subdivision: Ocean View Estates.

-Several miles up from Ocean View you’ll pass the last Hawaiian fishing village in the islands: Miloli’i. Take a spin if you like and see some good old fashion island living.

-Up aways from Miloli’i is a must stop: The City of Refuge. At Puʻuhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park you’ll get a true sense of what living was like back in the ancient Hawaiian days.

-Up from the City of Refuge is another must stop: Kealakekua Bay. Just a beautiful an pristine place. You may still get to see the the house that got washed into the bay by the tidal wave earlier this year. If not, take a look at the monument in memory of Captain James Cook.

-As you’re driving up towards Kailua Kona you’ll pass allot of Kona coffee farms. Stop by any one of ‘um along the way.

-Just pass Teshima restaurant is the intersection to go to Keahou shopping center. Take that road, head down pass the shopping center and turn right onto Ali’i drive. Take this route into Kailua Kona.

-From Kailua you can make stops at any number of stores to pick up supplies. KTA, Safeway, Costco, WalMart, Target… or, just mosy on out to Waikoloa.

-On your way out cruise on into the Four Seasons Hualalai Resort. Beautiful property. Park your car and walk through the grounds. They’ve got a Hawaiian museum there. Ask for Cynthia. Tell her A-joe sent you. =)

When you get to Waikoloa pull up front and ask for Haddon. He’s the bell captain. Tell him A-joe sent you. He going take care! =)

Now, if you were to go Kona through the north of the island as Al suggested, all you’ll get is a bag of Malasadas and a nice view pastures and cows.

Take the road less traveled. Head south into God’s country. There’s just sooo much more to see and explore. =)

Suppose that you bought an nfl jersey, it’s not a replica jersey, not a youth jersey, not a women jersey edition, but an authentic jersey. Here is the tips of laundering: Hand-wash your jersey. It is encouraged by official supervisors to use a non-coarse, color-fast detergent to clean jerseys. Woolite fits this description. Rinse the jersey carefully and deal with the suds. Check your jersey whether the soap is out; it should have a very pleasant and fresh smell. Rinse the jersey again in the color-fast detergent if all the stains have not come out. A second washing will remove all stains except something permanent. Rinse thoroughly. Air dry and never put it in the dryer which would smash up the numbers, letters and symbols. For discount nba jerseys you may care less. When you have ncaa jerseys wholesale quantity and wash them, don’t put them together. Clean them seperately, one by one.
