Dunnachie fined, ordered to attend classes

Punter Alex Dunnachie today was fined $200 and ordered to participate in an alcohol-assessment program and attend 14 hours of drivers education.

What’s more, he can only operate a vehicle with an ignition lock. Dunnachie said he installed the device in his car three weeks ago. He pays a monthly rental of $100 for the lock.

First District Court Judge David Lo imposed a $400 fine, but suspended half of it on the condition Dunnachie does not get into any legal trouble in the next 30 days.

Dunnachie has been told he will be suspended for an indefinite number of games. He has been allowed to practice with the Warriors, remain on scholarship and attend classes.

I know I saw it here several weeks ago. Can anyone tell which game are being regionally or nationally televised? I think a few were scheduled for CBS Sports.

Many are experiencing a conflict. Some are fed up and are ready to walk away from these events and the madness it has become and there are some that still have pride to cheer and support but are still hurting at all of this… Bad times have to end sometime.

For those that cannot understand, I have no sympathy. For some it is just a job, for others this is a big part of us.

    What’s coming through is alive.

What’s holding up is a mirror.

But what’s singing songs is a snake

Looking to turn this p*** to wine.

    They’re both totally full hate,

and killing me just the same.

    The snake behind me hisses

What the damage could have been.

My blood before me begs me

    Open up my wallet again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.

    Considerately…

    Ve-no-mous voice, temps me,

    Drains me, bleeds me,

    Leaves me cracked and empty.

Drags me down like some sweet gravity.

    The snake behind me hisses

What the damage could have been.

My blood before me begs me

    Open up my heart again.

And I feel this coming over like a storm again.

I am too connected to you to

    Slip away, to fade away.

Days away I still feel you

    Touching me, changing me,

    And considerately killing me.

    Without the skin,

    Beneath the storm,

    Under these years…

    The walls came down.

And the snakes are drowned and

As I look in their eyes,

    My fear begins to fade

    Recalling all of those times.

    I could have cried then.

    I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down and

As I look in their eyes

    My fear begins to fade

    Recalling all of the times

    I have cried

    and this will die.

    It’s all right.

    I don’t mind.

I am too connected to you to

    Slip away, to fade away.

Days away I still feel you

    Touching me, changing you,

    And considerately killing me….

The driver’s permit for cars with ignition lock is a great idea. Seems fair to me. Good luck to Dunnachie.

    Howzit, everyone!

‘Nezian Fest for us out here in the Georgia/Alabama/Florida area this weekend. Then a week to go for our football opener. Can’t wait to get these stooopid things out of mind, even if just temporarily.

So, Dunnachie now knows what his (legal) punishment is. Still gotta see what happens with the team. At least he’s allowed to practice, and remains on scholarship. Gotta take care of business. Learn from this and move forward.

“Always Ready!” Let’s get it done, Warriors!

  15. gigi-hawaii August 24, 2012 10:50 am

Like everyone else, I wonder if Chow will allow Dunnachie to fly with the team for the USC game. After all, hasn’t he been practicing all these weeks?

  16. Pupule Portagee August 24, 2012 10:52 am

    {Saint Louis School graduate Marcus Mariota will be the first freshman to start a season opener at quarterback for the University of Oregon in 21 years, the school announced.}

Looks like I just became a Ducks fan. Now I have to find an Oregon hat. But first, there is this other Pac 12 team we need to take care of….

Go Warriors ! Remember Appalachian State ! If they can do it so can we….

    Shaka da World !!!

  17. gigi-hawaii August 24, 2012 10:54 am

Interesting to see the members of the search committee. Why haven’t the coaches come out to support the reinstatement of JD as AD?

  21. Big Hilo Fan2 August 24, 2012 11:00 am

    Gigi.

Maybe that’s why there is a committee. Too polite to talk stink about JD. Just mo Berra to move on. They’re measuring against a RF standard. That’s what I’m reading.

  22. papajoe2 August 24, 2012 11:00 am

They still didn’t announce how much the investigation cost UH/taxpayers.

  23. gigi-hawaii August 24, 2012 11:05 am

All I know is if RF is named AD (despite his saying he won’t apply for the job), I’ll be very upset. It would seem he got in via the back door.

  32. John Fitzgerald Byers August 24, 2012 11:23 am

coaches have families to support and bills to pay. with the unstability of the whole uhm leadership unknown, coaches are not in a position to ‘speak up”

Coaches can be fired without cause.

this is not the economy in which people can live off of movie-like ethics with no regard to watching out for their income that effects the people they care about.

Kekoa, we bringing a delegation, Malo and all…lol.

  37. John Fitzgerald Byers August 24, 2012 11:36 am

What some don’t realize is that the uh coaches are concerned with one thing, their team. It is easy for people on the outside to think that they should be locked in a circle in chains holding a protest at the offices, but that is not reality. Ask the long time UH coaches how expendable uh upper campus thinks of them no matter who the AD is.

In the eyes of the bean counters they don’t see wins or losses or care about how they help maintain/monitor the academics of their players, all those people see are how much this person’s salary is and how much money they can try to cut to keep the bottom line as small as possible. Cut cut cut… nickel and dime nickel and dime. And at the same time they have had to sit there and watch the facilities at uh and other lagging problems hold back recruiting opportunities while they get scrutinized for not competition like bcs programs.

  38. Graham August 24, 2012 11:40 am

He should get 4 games Only fair if that’s what shutter got

  40. kawika49 August 24, 2012 11:43 am

#39 It’s about 110 young men and their responsibility to them. Not only in football; but, in their future. What a responsibility, when you have a young persons future success in you hands. Not only in football, but in all sports. I think our coaches (in all sports) have lived up to the standard.

  43. Kevin August 24, 2012 11:54 am

    ST,

Yeah. Only took 3 years, numerous emails, and legislative help.

In the end it took about an hour.

Now, that 1.7 mil that’s been sitting idle… let’s see if something actually happens in May.

  44. kawika49 August 24, 2012 11:58 am

#40 As proven in the Stevie Wonder thing, the UH is flexible. These young people don’t get 200k a year. Set a standard for during the season, and stand by it. Off season, they don’t have benefits; not like administrators. Yes penalize them, but not the team.

  60. madeinhawaii August 24, 2012 1:04 pm

    24 Hawaii

    22 USC

Hawaii’s Offense eats up a lot of clock…

Defense holds it’s own in the first half to keep this a low scoring game… Hawaii blocks a last minute FG attempt by USC to upset the Trojans.

  61. Kekoa August 24, 2012 1:05 pm

    Pomai ~

My best guess for now is simple. Warriors Win. (Actual score will be posted after I lock in my bet with the Sports Book).

  62. Capitolist/WassupDoc August 24, 2012 1:08 pm

President Greenwood’s contract has been extended to June 30, 2015. As to when that date was confirmed by the Board of Regents, it happened sometime this past year – but not during the past two months.

  63. Kekoa August 24, 2012 1:08 pm

    Good call M-I-H!

  64. A-House August 24, 2012 1:10 pm

    al:

#57 – if your wish comes true and the UHAD deficit grows to $14+ million by year 2016 – will the BOR have the allahs to “fire” him? as for me, it does not matter who will become the new UHAD cause the deficit will only keep growing unless some “rich” person will donate $12 million to clear the balance; then, what happens thereafter if the sports programs cannot draw enough fans to help keep the ledger in the “black”? what happens if the top-of-the line donors decide they will reduce or stop their donations? only more pilikia.

anyone: what did Jim D do to deserve the lack of support from Greenwood and the BOR?

  65. A-House August 24, 2012 1:12 pm

geezzzzzzzs – I porgot what my initial prediction was but I will go with UH 25 and USC 22.

  66. John Fitzgerald Byers August 24, 2012 1:15 pm

The better question is, what did uh athletics do to get the lack of support from upper campus?

This is beyond one man as AD and a set of regents and president.

This is a microcosm of decades of the same ole same ole.

  67. Kekoa August 24, 2012 1:16 pm

    W/Doc @#65

That’s the kinda chet I would like to have changed. We (John Kealaoha Public) need to have a say in those kinda of things. If nothing else, the media should be shining the light of truth on these kinda moves…in front of our backs. 👿

  68. John Fitzgerald Byers August 24, 2012 1:18 pm

A 12 million dollar donation for the deficit is a waste and allows upper campus to get away with more than they should.

  69. tommui August 24, 2012 1:18 pm

#67 – probably because JD was not her selection as AD.

The BOR could have ordered her or Apple to restore JD to his job but it would be a tremendous loss of face and amounts to a non-confidence vote for the two.

It’s hard to undercut the person that supposedly is in command.

(Don’t mistake me – I like JD and wish him well in all his endeavors.)

  70. madeinhawaii August 24, 2012 1:18 pm

Too bad you can’t separate Athletics funding and control from the UH Admin and BOR back to the State.

  71. d1shima August 24, 2012 1:40 pm

It was said that Athletics is the “front porch” of the university.

Seems like the lights off and no one’s home in Manoa…

  72. Da Punchbowl Kid August 24, 2012 1:49 pm

    al –

Rockne broke the wedge three times for UH Athletics. He brokered the MWC deal, helped assure Norm Chow’s hire and with help from Coach Chow, found $150 more per month for UH scholarship athletes. Where would our football program be without his help? Imagine if he were AD fulltime for the next five years or so?

I’m with you al and MIH.

Rockne Freitas gets things done. Look no further.

  87. jeffdman2000 August 24, 2012 2:45 pm

Let’s get real. I am a Hawaii fan.

It’g going to be 83-10. USC

USC is coming off probation. The nation will be watching. Recruits will be watching. Everyone will be looking at the Penn State Running back…

It’s not even going to be close. I have attending practice. TE’s look super, super slow. Our great Secondary is still not big.

With the run and shoot we could possibly catch some off guard. Till they started to cover our slots like Boise did.

We are running basically the same offense as USC, but with players that wouldn’t even make their practice squad if they had one.

I am ok with it. I really predict the typical Hawaii fan to not support this team this year and the stadium to be empty. I think everyone will be calling for Chow’s job soon…And more of the SAINT June Jones talk to arise. I hate that stuff too. Hawaii is what it is.

Super Far..>Nobody likes flying out here. Our new president is one swift decision away from getting rid of athletics all together.

Just going to be a long year starting with a HUGE (Another btw) Nationally Televised Butt Whippen.

I think it is funny that the gamblers are putting money on UH….Really? When you can’t pay your bet back…Does UH care? No…In fact, once you lose you will be more sick than the players. They will lose and move on…Pretty strange right?

  88. Don Weir (We-Ah) August 24, 2012 2:47 pm

    kawika49

If you are coming for a game please let me know and I will look into the availability of tickets, as of that date unsold.

I will see if they will release them without some mark up beyond face value.

    You a Letterwinner?

    Na Koa member?

Anyone in your group one of the above??

  89. papajoe2 August 24, 2012 2:52 pm

PPV finally up. $320 for renewal, $375 for new, and $65 per individual football game. Cheaper than last year but less games too.

  90. kawika49 August 24, 2012 2:55 pm

#88 As in all group endeavors. We are not sure of the game yet. As responsible people, we will persevere. We are looking to Boise at the moment according to my polling. Thank you, and look forward for you help if needed..

    -Devastate Trojan fans

    Howdy! 😉

I’m looking for our ‘D’ and spesho teams to disrupt and disarm their offense. Without a backup QB, and Barkley on his okole the whole 1st half, 2nd half will cause our high powered offense to close it out…56 to 10.?

    Jeff ~

I would have said 81 to 10, but coach Chow would never embarass another team with such a score. He would let everyone get a chance to play and let the clock run out at 56. Mercy rule. Hehehe.

  110. hossana August 24, 2012 3:54 pm

Re: 87 Blog’s: I don’t particularly care for your sarcastic humor concerning the results of the USC-UH game as I always like to think positive. The players and coaches certainly wouldn’t appreciate it, too, after the long hours and work they have endured these past several months. The least we could do is be supportive instead of being negative and GIVE THEM THE SUPPORT, MORAL OR OTHERWISE, THAT THEY SO DESERVE.

Go Bows! Go Warriors! Go Wahines!

  114. paintslinger9 August 24, 2012 4:09 pm

Football is about deception and matchups. The guy with the better matchups and the better plan usually wins, providing they take care of the ball and minimize mistakes.

With all things being equal, we match our 300lb linemen against USC’s 300 lb linemen it comes down to who is experienced, worked hard over the summer, and more importantly, who has psychic control. Its got little to do with the betting boards in Las Vegas.

Physical superiority generally overcomes football theory…Usually, not always. Hawaii could get beat by USC, even beat badly. But, they could also come out on top with any number of circumstances lending assistance. Anyone ceding the victory to USC simply because they happen to be USC, with the money and recruits, is ignoring the mystique that could and might come into play. Also, anyone who discounts the influence of a great coach, doesn’t know much about the game. We don’t have a good coach, we have a ‘really’ good coach. With all this in mind, I say UH plays the Trojans tough. They might even take it to the wire.

  115. Moocher August 24, 2012 4:18 pm

rockne was vp, second to greenwood.

At some point greenwood must have turned to rockne and said “what do we do”?

What did rockne know, when did he know it, what did he do, and did he influence any decisions/actions by greenwood and apple. in my opinion rockne seems to always be working in the shadows and i would not be surprised if he’s involved-logically, he has to be, he is the vp.

and as Al said, “why are there many of freitas’ supporters on the committee”? is this a set up? is this a way (or plan) to get rockne in, in a way that we would all think was pono?

Can anyone on that committee be AD?

  116. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 24, 2012 4:22 pm

How many points USC puts on us will come down to when Kiffin will yank Barkley from the game imo. He will have to balance pumping up his stats for the Heisman race against keeping him from unnecessary injury.

If he pulls Barkley at the half I don’t expect the score to be something crazy. If he is planning to pad B’s Heisman resume, it could get really ugly.

UH had 528 yards against USC’s 340 in 2010 but lost due mainly

be there come September 1st? Tried to google who will ref but

    must be top secret…

Anyone with some insight? I mean, we have had people with experience that struggled with the job, and now people want someone with no experience at all? I’m confused.

Again, I have to say I don’t know him at all, and he may very well deserve it. I’m just wondering based on what merit.

Update on Greenwood contract extension: The Board of Regents extended her contract on January 20, 2011 – after 18 months on the job – until JULY 31, 2015. Click http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/20110121_Greenwood_has_UH_contract_extended.html?id=114349364 to read the story in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. NOTE: I was off by a month.

To clarify the professional relationship between Greenwood and Donovan – he was hired as Director of Athletics in March, 2008, while she was hired in June, 2009. They had no personal or professional relationship until she arrived on campus.

Virginia Hinshaw was hired in March, 2007, but did not report for work until July 1, 2007. She was on the job just six months when she had to deal with June Junes/HermanFrazier/Greg McMackin.

With respect to Rockne Freitas: He assumed the newly created position of Vice President for Student Affairs and University/Community Relations for the University of Hawai‘i System in July 2010. Prior to that time, he had been an administrator at Hawaii Community College and UH-Hilo.

The new position merged two vacant vice president positions at the System level — vice president for student affairs and vice president for external affairs and university relations.

For those of you who want to know if Freitas will be hired as Director of Athletics without submitting an application, I suggest that you submit a letter/e-mail using your real name & contact information to Howard Karr and Norm Chow, the Chair & Vice Chair, requesting that they confirm the application process and whether the committee will seek out individuals who do not apply.

When you do this, be sure to cc: your request to Governor Neil Abercrombie as well as to major media such as the Star-Advertiser, KHON?KITV?Hawaii News Now, Pacific Business News, Civil Beat.

You also communicate to the Hawai`i State Legislature. There are some people who will not be around after November 6, but the key leadership will still be in their offices.

    kev-1,

Ive read a lot of support for Amemiya because he has done well for Hawaii high school athletics. He seems to be a very competent person who is well educated and experienced with local athletics.

I don’t know how much connections he has with the PAC 12 or national programs in general but if he does have them he would be an excellent candidate.

If not, I would think that we should bring in someone with strong ties to the PAC 12 and WCC/Big West…other BCS conference ties like the Big 12/10 are “nice to have” but not need to have. Having someone like this at the AD position and Amemiya at the Senior Associate position (or switched) would be one heck of a team.

One name that hasn’t been mentioned yet is my former KSB ROTC Colonel, Mike Chun. The recently ‘retired’ Headmaster of Kamehameha Schools was a tough tight end back in the day. Talk about a guy that is well connected with the politico’s down at the State Puzzle Palace, and holds some pretty impressive degrees in Engineering and stuff…Mike is good people.

    BHF2 ~

    Once more, with feeling.

    Nah, nah, nah, j/k.

I was wondering when you would put on your cape and come save the day. Much has transpired since the Wonderous Blunder. The AD position begs for the right person to take charge. He is the Chosen One. There is no doubt.

  201. mo808 August 25, 2012 5:08 am

  207. el burro sabio August 25, 2012 6:55 am

It’s more important to hire some with vision and competence that to put a priority on connections and ties. UH already hired someone with strong Pac-10 ties, his name was Frazier.

  208. BigHiloFan2 August 25, 2012 7:07 am

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

yup, 7 more days, and i get to watch Coach Chow jumping up and down, Coach Demo constantly doing height jumps, Coach Thom cool as ice, jam packed Coliseum going nuts in da first 30, den gagging when da Warriors hanging close and den da Dukes pullin some jaw dropping kanaks, and Edwards, Grimes, Maggit shuttin down at da corners, and Moses gruntin in da middle on da D… and Sai and Milovale and Shigematsu and Miur and Clarke being talked about nicely by da talkin heads, yup, i’m gonna tape da game because i dunno where i’m gonna be, a last minute ting….

ok. you can tell. i iz jact up!

    uGo Warriors!!! eat sum!

  209. Shoko August 25, 2012 7:08 am

For those interested in Sagarin ratings.

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt12.htm

You can have an AD with vision and competence, but if he can’t execute and put his plan into action then he pretty much poho, in my opinion.

  210. BigHiloFan2 August 25, 2012 7:08 am

    el burro sabio

Guess the Young Tsai-ko Challenge Update

It has just come to my attention that some who submitted entries in the Phase 1 fill-in-the-blank thought they were not eligible for Phase II multiple choice. My apologies for not making this clear.

All participants are eligible. The deadline for this multiple choice answer phase is extended until noon today.

The stunner, a 30-27 victory by the Warriors, confirmed Coach Chow as being a brilliant hire by Hawaii this past December….

#182 – There is a family tradition so I’m not surprised that Mr Amemiya’s son goes to Punahou.

Actually, if you look at some of the top administrators in the DOE or even at Kam School, you will find Punahou graduates.

  233. PrimoGoal September 5, 2012 3:28 am
