Dry run
SUMMERLIN — For the first time this week, the Warriors did not wake up to a storm.
And that is fine for the Warriors, who had ideal conditions — a dry run, so to speak — for their final full practice before Saturday’s game against UNLV.
Of note:
• There were four NFL scouts at today’s practice.
• Tyler Hadden will handle all of the place-kicking duties.
• Although Terence Bell has practiced with the first team the past three practices, Justin Clapp has been impressive, and is expected to merit extended playing time (he might even start).
• Left wideout Darius Bright had his best practice of the year, punctuated by a leaping catch in the end zone.

There also has been some interesting experiments. Backup quarterback David Graves has taken reps as a slotback. After Graves went deep on a pass pattern, a teammate yelled: “Welcome back.”But Graves acknowledges he is strictly an emergency receiver. “I’m a backup-backup-backup plan,” Graves said.

So, technically the practices are open, but because the school is off limits to strangers, the practice is really closed (except to friends and relatives of the players and coaches).
It’s made for some amusing moments, such as UH officials having to confront suspected spies. Turns out they were the father of Scott Harding and the uncle of Richard Torres.
But there was one guy with no ties to UH who was watching practice. He was asked to leave.

Great day yesterday at Pacific Palms Resort/Industry Hills Golf Course for the 14th annual UH Athletic Dept. golf tournament. There were over 200 golfers (used most of both courses). The food was prepared by a local chef w/ noodles, rice, pork chops, teri chicken, manapua, and great deserts. It was outstanding.
Met some really nice folks there. My buddy & I got paired up with Ray Noh from Noh Foods of Hawaii and Jarinn Akana – former UH basketball great and NBA assistant coach for 10 years. We had a great time.
Also spoke w/ JD, Hugh Yoshida & Coach Wallace. Coach Gibb Arnold was also there, made a few rather comical comments, then was driving to AZ for a recruiting trip. Talk about a long day for him. The best part of the day was finally meeting JD’s right hand woman – Jeannie Lee!
I believe a lot of money was raised for the Athletic Dept!!

RE Upcoming TsaikoTV-gates – Location Discussion Inquiry
Planning TB-gates is difficult because not all establishments (restaurants/bars) meet all TsaikoRequirements (as determined thru experience via KK, J(J), myself, and soneotherTsaikos).
Purpose –
There are TsomeTsaikos who don’t mind sharing the ‘burden’ of traveling near and far to cheer alongside in the company of fellow Tsaikos, and meeting at different locations around the island is not a problem. This means that on away game days, we might awaken a bit earlier than usual in order to travel across town (any direction) and hang out together in support of our beloved Warrior Team.
Venues Inquiry-
Problem is more whether we can find a venue that passes most TsaikoRequirements (previous experiece by KK, J(J), myself and Tsomeothers); top 3:
1) Big screen TVs are unobstructed and in easily viewable locations.
2) Tsaiko-tsaized Tsaikos can comfortably sit and fit together all on one table (fewer different tables the better), and can easily get out of the table for whatever reason like use bathroom, etc.
3) Parking is plentiful and as close to free as possible.
– Location is not too out of the way and is easily accessible by car.
– Fuud, a Tsaiko staple, tastes pretty guud, plentiful as needed, and reasonably priced.
– Actual seating is decent; venue and bathrooms are not stinky; service is pretty good; safe location.
– Being in the midst of other Warrior fans is a real guud fun thing but not a must.
– Location takes reservations; no deposit required.
– Beer/alcohol/beverages are reasonably priced; also depends on time of day/game.
Brainstorming suggestions thus far/location/CONs(*=seem to meet most):
– Bay View Golf Course (Kaneohe) – may require down; bar mgmt changed; very small tvs
– Big City Diner (best one?) – seating very far apart; tvs small or far
* Buffalo Wild Wings (Waikiki) – wings too small; parking charge; in Waikiki
* Cafe Anasia (Moilili)
* Ewa Beach Golf Course (Ewa) – if anyone who lives out there will join us
– Giovani Pastrami (Waikiki) – seating far apart; expensive parking; in Waikiki
* Genji’s (McCully) – go there for other Tsaiko events
* Ige’s (Aiea) – beer super expensive; no reservations
* Imua Lounge (AlaMoana) – parking can be difficult
* Lisa’s House (airport) – no reservations in main area; deposit required
– Mai Tai’s (AlaMoana) – difficult for groups
– Monterey Bay (Pearlridge) – expensive
– Nancy’s (Waipio) – tvs low and blocked by bodies unless you’re in front
– Pearl (AlaMoana) – expensive

Much Mahalo for all the good words and blessings. This makes two kids for me my wife — and both born during the football season. My daughter is already a warrior fan at 3 years old. She was born in October of the 2007 season, quite possibly the most amazing UH season ever. This boy is born in what might turn out to be a pretty remarkable UH season too. Heartfelt prayers to the Fontes ohana and all of HPD; one of the things I appreciate about the Tsaikos, is what I consider to be the genuine care we have for one another, for the most part. True Tsaikos know who and what I mean.
I started saying ‘Make memories’……years ago; today more than ever those words reverberate in the shadows of my mind as i prepare a eulogy for my best friend who has passed at the age of 49 years old, a former HPD officer, who actually came out with some Tsaikos at ‘Champions Lounge’ years ago.
Is all the ‘crap’ we go through worth it, I mean all the manini stuff we hold on to, all the unforgiveness, the ill feelings, the ghosts of yesterdays lost….. where does it get us….where?
Live life my friends, laugh when you can, cry when you want, and love whenever the chance comes, and make sure, make absolutely sure that the people you love and care for the most, are very aware of how you feel….leave no doubt. No one…no one, is guaranteed tomorrow.
We love you guys, we miss you guys, and hope to get to a T-gate this season. Life is way too short………and taken for granted far too much. Bless all of you 🙂

Don’t just blame the players for the loss to UNLV. Blame Coach Greg McMackin and his coaches for the poor preparations. Don’t know if he had someone scout UNLV vs WSU the week before, but I doubt it or the coach scout was girl watching. WSU ran a hurryup offense against UNLV and the Rebels couldn’t adjust quick enough. Did UH do that against UNLV ? Hell NO !! Instead UNLV was ready to snap the ball and UH linebacker kept looking at his D coach on the sideline for a play to call. WTH coach. Did you have a clue?? Did you have the video of the WSU game or did the video camera break ?
Better watch how Moniz looked down field and couldn’t see #81 wide open 80% of the time. Instead, Moniz overthrew his passes to guys that weren’t open. Moniz Heisman chance ?
