Day after

• For Hawaii fans, the best thing about last night’s victory was that it came against an opponent that brought its best. True, the Bulldogs made several key mistakes — most caused by the Warriors — but their effort was relentless. And give credit to FS fans for being in full heckling force. For the Warriors, the victory was earned.

• Give credit to Bryant Moniz, Royce Pollard, Corey Paredes and Vaughn Meatoga for playing through injuries.

• The back row is no longer a hiding spot. For last night’s post-game haka, Zach Masch, Alex Green and Lewis Walker provided the most animated moves.

haka

• The first rule of a date is not to ask for a next date before the evening is over. And while playing Fresno State in Fresno, UH officials should not ask whether the series will continue after the Bulldogs secede from the WAC in 2011 or 2012. FS officials basically said: “Sure, we’ll call you.” What’s that line from the Four Tops’ song: “Call Me” were the last words I remember, then the spring became December, and I still got no reply …

• If a school official says, “Sure, we’ll play you,” then Jim Donovan should respond: “Really? Thanks. I just happen to have a contract  with me …”

• But UH really needs to play road games in California. Don’t care if it’s UC Davis or whomever. The turnout of UH supporters is amazing. Plus, those California chapters of the UH Alumni Association know how to throw a great tailgate. If California schools don’t want to do a home-and-home, then maybe the chapters can just plan a party, anyway.

• Powderpuff is becoming a heckling legend. “And that’s another Fresno State … fourth down!” Also, to yell to departing fans: “Hey, where is everybody going?”

• A bunch of us — Rich2176, Rob25, A-Sports and A-Joe — found the only Denny’s that closes at midnight. We had to go to another one. Rich2176 was grumbling because I ordered a country-fried steak. Of course, Mr. Fitness ended up getting a Moon Over My-hammy.

  29. bb October 10, 2010 9:16 am

The K5 feed last night seemed like there was a layer of vaseline on the camera lens.

The UH game was the only game I watched yesterday that wasn’t in HD. Even the chicken commercials were in HD.

That’s my only gripe from last night.

Get your store security and floor walkers ready. Nevada’s up next.

  30. Slugger October 10, 2010 9:16 am

You working on your farm all night? If you’re not working on Monday, come to the Na Koa luncheon at 11 AM, Willows. Get there early…Czonka is speaking.

Healing energy out to the ones who are banged up. What happened to Aaron Brown? Guess I’ll go read the pepah.

Good morning everyone! Yep, stayed up to 1am like everyone else to watch the telecast 😀 Wonderful knowing we had the hard core Tsaiko’s representing at the stadium. hmmm…maybe I should replace “hard core” with “rabid” so there’s no misunderstanding the connotation! lol I noticed DPK called UHFan808 an “all nighter”!!!

A beautiful day to all…just enough time to pour a glass of wine and enjoy the game all over again. 😆

Here’s an interesting bit of information. In UNM-NMSU game, it seems Hawaii’s Andrew Manley, Leilehua H.S Grad, won the game for the Aggies on the last drive to get the the W. He went 2-2 for 32 yards and had one interception (playing two positions?). He replaced Tanner Rust, who is also a punter, in the the last five minutes of the fourth. Seems like a good day for Hawaii players. Anyway, carry on…

I think the lighting was a problem. Not sure if it’s the cutbacks, but the field seemed pretty dim.

What was obviously more DIM was the outlook of the kind of overall program the MWC is getting in Fresno State. They should have known.

    -Football. MEDIOCRE.

    -Basketball. WORSE.

    -Baseball. Pretty good.

    -Volleyball. Pffft…

    -Softball. Slowly dying and outdated.

    etc….

  53. papajoe2 October 10, 2010 9:39 am

How many tackles did Manti Teo get? Is he still leading the nation? Where does Corey rank?

(I’d do it if I knew how to use computers.)

    Nevada ain’t so attractive either!!!!!!!

Football – drops down after CK leaves.

Basketball – not exactly the Mark Fox teams but still ok, but still never gets past the NCAA 1st round.

    Baseball – nope.

    Volleyball – so-so.

    Softball – dying decline

  58. Old Diver October 10, 2010 9:42 am

This is the problem I have with the run sets up the pass philosophy. When it’s late in the game and you’re behind you can’t run to set up the pass. Fresno’s accurate passing game showed that it is mediocre when is forced to pass.

  59. papajoe2 October 10, 2010 9:43 am

    Parades had 11. That’s good.

  60. Kazz October 10, 2010 9:43 am

I consider Nevada and FSU more of a bunch of lucky ——- for falling okole first into a more secure conference situation.

Lord knows that as an athletic program (all encompassing), they’ve done NOTHING to deserve it.

  61. papajoe2 October 10, 2010 9:45 am

  71. Pauoa Boy October 10, 2010 9:58 am

Still got the feel good vibes from last night carrying on today! Great win last night as I felt our boys played their best game yet as a whole team. Bryant Moniz looked great with all the pressure he was receiving, made very key plays. Receivers all did outstanding, although Kealoha had some drops, the rest picked it up…Salas and Pollard especially! Offensive Line held it together and played nice and physical allowing Alex Green to get loose. Defensively our DLine played ferocious and put the hurt on all night long. Paredes, Brown, Daily-Lyles and Heun all played well for the LB corps… John Hardy-Tuliau still beastin as well as Jeramy Bryant and Mana Silva in the secondary. Lametrius Davis had some nice tackles. Nice to see Torres put the smack down on that one candy arse reciever. Salas de-bo’d the crap out of numbah 2! Also Paredes hit on Colburn to save a touchdown! Special teams was killin it as well. Dunnachie boomed some nice punts. Scooter although shanked that one FG was money for the most part. Dustin “Blazing Fast” Blount was sure to break one to the house, but Fres-hoes got lucky! Anyway, I think everything is finally coming together for our Warrior Boys and it’s time to run the table and go bowling BCS style!

  72. Shoko October 10, 2010 10:06 am

LVSC line opened up at Nevada -8. Seems after theh Fresno win, Vegas is finally giving the Warriors some respect. At least a little…

Correction, Manley didn’t have an interception. It was the CB with the same number. Finally realized that player looked too dark skinned to be Manley.

  73. chopsueyboy October 10, 2010 10:07 am

  74. gigi-hawaii October 10, 2010 10:08 am

  75. SteveM October 10, 2010 10:10 am

    Good morning everyone!

Am up just in time to see the replay! Sure was great passing out the karaoke song books in celebration before the end of the game. 🙄

We filled the private room for the game and sang until 11:00 PM. 50’s-70’s night although someone found something from 1995. 🙂 More stars were born! Also great to see MP and buddies emerge from the bar side and sit at my usual tables with their gang (they could fit 9 people in the space that 5 Tsai-kos take up). 😐

My next and last private room reservation at Genji’s for a mid-afternoon (Hawaii Time) game is the NaMasu game on November 27.

  76. Pauoa Boy October 10, 2010 10:12 am

    Aunty gigi,

Hawaii Bowl??? If we run the table and kick the crap out of Nevada and Boise State, we’ll probably be ranked and in a better position for a bigger bowl game…I’m thinking…no???

  77. Shoko October 10, 2010 10:13 am

Nevada has suffered six straight losses playing at Aloha Stadium. The last game they won was in 1948, according to one source.

  78. Shoko October 10, 2010 10:21 am

Corey Paredes total tackles is tied with others with 73 and averages 12.1 tackles per game.

Manti Teo total tackles is 69 averaging 11.5 tackesl per game. Both are ranked fourth and nineth respectively in tackles per game.

    Good morning Tsai-kos!!

    Great Sunday to you all!

PB – UH with 2 losses will never get invited to a BCS bowl. Hawaii Bowl is the best alternative.

UHfan808 – great job last night. One nitpicky thingie – those posts are computer Spam, not trolls. Trolls are guys who only come on the blog to stir things up and attack other posters personally. One troll has been banned from here, remember?

  85. haroldwah October 10, 2010 10:34 am

Nevada’s crushing loss to SMU was because they didn’t have their 3 headed monster. Heck they didn’t even have their 2 headed monster. Lipincot was injured and Taua didn’t play due to academics. We have to stop either Taua or Kaepernick. They both can’t have over 100+ yards rushing. Can our Defense do it? Certainly!!!! Fan’s are on notice. Please come out and support the “Warriors”. We need to make some noise!!!!!

  86. haroldwah October 10, 2010 10:36 am

Great win by the Warriors. Let’s not let up. Continue to work hard and play hard.

    ciao!

  88. Derek October 10, 2010 10:59 am

Every dog has its day. Not the Fresno St. Bulldogs. The UnderDOG, Hawaii Warriors! It was a very, very satisfying win watching the game last evening.

Jim Leahey makes a ton of mistakes, but what the heck what can you do.

May too much Makule Monday! All around game by the offense, defense, and some special teams. I think we have found a kickoff return man in Dustin Blount, but we have to work on the holding and block in the back penalties on these returns, because it costs us a ton of yardage. Come On, Tormey! Salas was Salas, spectacular! Green ran w/ authority and hard.

3 interceptions and one returned for a TD, that was sweet. Masch should have scored a touchdown when he stole the ball from Colburn. We were robbed on that one. If it was Fresno St. doing it, they would have let it stand, I guarantee you! No matter, we kicked theirs butts and sent them

packing to their new conference. If we play them again next year at

Aloha Stadium, we will kick their okoles again!

  89. expat October 10, 2010 11:07 am

    Pauoa Boy,

The only way that Hawaii does not play in the Hawaii bowl (once bowl eligible) is if it gets a BCS bowl invite. With two losses there is NO chance of that. The only other bowls would be bowls with WAC tie-ins and the only one that makes sense would be the Hawaii bowl. Plus, I believe that UH has a contractual obligation to the Hawaii bowl.

  90. expat October 10, 2010 11:10 am

Colburn was one tough QB. He should have been sacked a bunch more times than he was. That is one thing that the D-line is going to have to work on for this next week. If they have Kap in their hands they have to finish him off. The guy is too strong for them to play patty-cake with.

  91. Old Diver October 10, 2010 11:11 am

Hawaii plus 8, I’ll take Hawaii.

  94. Shoko October 10, 2010 11:49 am

Nevada is averaging 43 points per game (ranked 7th) , while Hawaii averages 39 points (ranked 11th) per game. With Nevada’s Pass defense thats ranked 82nd and Hawaii’s Rush Defense ranked 85th, one can expect a high-scoring game. Of course, that depends on both teams preparation prior to the game and adjustments during game day. Just never know…

  95. RedZone October 10, 2010 11:56 am

Well, if the Gigantics can pull it off in Atlanta, then the world is in its proper orbit this weekend.

Again, here’s the offer – if the UH creams Boise on November 6, then I’ll treat all the Tsai-kos present & accounted for at the UNLV game to dinner the next night – unless it’s the football annual banquet. Will pick another day or lunch on Sunday instead – no matter what, it won’t be at McBurgerjack’s.

A junk day weather-wise, but a good one – we’re planting two trees and adding to our feline staff as well.

If you are interested in becoming park of the PLANT Campaign, click my name and find out about the hosted planning meeting/dinner in two weeks. It will be held in urban Honolulu.

    from Fresno Bee

The best part about moving to the Mountain West might be that Hawaii isn’t there. Again and again, that program takes it out on Fresno State, and somewhere you have to imagine June Jones was having a chuckle, or wishing he’d been in on it.

  111. whitey October 10, 2010 12:42 pm

Actually, if he’d (JJ) been in on it, the Warriors definitely would have scored 50. That’s what they do — dance and sing and laugh and spill blood in Bulldog Stadium. When you think Fresno State has finally slowed down the Warriors, they reinvent the wheel. Even if it means — gasp! — running the ball.

I guess the grapes of wrath is very fitting for this game.

  112. whitey October 10, 2010 12:43 pm

    kazz, you will love this

Whether it was love or war, Fresno State was left with the bitter end of it. The Warriors sent the Bulldogs off to the Mountain West with a parting gift, a brass-knuckled care package.

A vote for MO is also a vote for putting HAWAII on the map.

He is at #32, with 198 votes.

    #31 has 206 votes; Andrew Luck/Stanford.

MO has to finish in top 25% (30 ?) to advance to the finals.

    #121… ai-eee-soos…

I posted that portion of the Davey O’Brien Award Voting Process in yesterday’s blog:

    Michigan Warrior:

    October 10th, 2010 at 5:36 am

Here’s a portion of the Davey O’Brien Award Voting Procedure:

    http://www.voteobrien.org/voting-process.asp

    “Semifinalists

The ballot will consist of all 120 FBS quarterbacks. The Selection Committee will be asked to select their top 16 candidates from the ballot. Ballots will be issued the week of Oct. 18 and are due Oct. 24.

Beginning Sept. 7 fans will have all 120 FBS starting quarterbacks to choose from until the voting closes at noon CT on Oct. 24. The fan vote will count for 5% of the overall Semifinalist vote.

Sixteen Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 25.”

So, we need to get Moniz as high as possible, so that the Selection Committee will take notice and cast votes for him to put him onto the Finalists Ballot. Moniz has to be one of 16 finalists to move on to the next round.

  142. Michigan Warrior October 10, 2010 1:43 pm

As I drove away from the gam last night, I tuned into the Fresno postgame broadcast. Am I a bad person or is it pretty sweet to listen to the lamenting of Fresno fans in regard to the haplessness that their team showed against our Warriors?

It was interesting to hear the internal battle among Fresno fans that want Pat Hill out and others that think he’s the best they can do.

One particular fan really ripped Hill for kneeling going into halftime when UH had the momentum. I also questioned that call but didn’t complain in any way.

On another note, this was my third road game (Sugar and WA State last yr in Seattle were the others). I have to say the Hawaii fans that go to away games provide such an awesome experience in what could be such a hostile environment that sometimes I feel like I’m back in Hawaii. Thanks to all the UH fans in section 24 that made that game even more enjoyable.

    Go Warroors!!!

No place like home! Hawaii is 16-5 over the last 5 years following playing on the road, including 2-2 last year. I gotta admit that I was pleasantly surprized though. A few of those games were played against Div. II teams though, but a win is a win. I don’t know what all these other teams are complaining about. We travel to the mainland and Hawaii about 4 times a year, sometimes staying up there for 2 games. I guess they just need excuses for their shortcomings.

No response to a message I sent to Gwen N. of the UH band. I guess it is either too much work or too insignificant. Either way, it sure looks like they are not interested. Too bad, too. The UH Cheer Squad could use the music on their away games. Sure could use them at the games to pump up the enthusiasm!

At the very least the band might have been able to make a few dollars off sales of the CD.

Definitely need to learn to think outside the box.

➡ re other bowl berths – the Hawaii Bowl was created for UH after they were left out of the post season in 2001 with a 9-3 record. Their final game of the season was a major ‘arse-whooping’ to BYU 72-45.

An agreement was made with the WAC “a ‘Hawaii guarantee’ allows the University of Hawaii the Hawaii Bowl bid, regardless of its standings in the WAC, provided it is bowl eligible and does not qualify for a BCS bowl (as it did in 2007).” . I

It would not make $en$e for UH to play in any other non-BCS bowl game. As Michael Irvin says on the Monday Night Live show C’mon Man!!

hope erryone is having a blessed Sunday.

Just finished watching HACHI with Mom and hubby. What a tear jerker. Great movie about love and loyalty between dog and master. True story!!!

  196. huh October 10, 2010 4:34 pm

it seems like we have a ‘stalker’ on the WB……hmmmm?!

someone needs to step back and analyze his/her actions (seriously)….think about it.

  197. Steve October 10, 2010 4:35 pm

    Gigi,

That was a really great movie, and it was a true story, also.

  198. Shoko October 10, 2010 4:37 pm

    Gigi,

No kidding about the movie Hachi. Made me cry, especially the part where they show the dog in his senior years. Head and ears hung low as he continues to wait for his master who will never return. Sad, but great movie.

  199. Siskel & Ebert October 10, 2010 4:44 pm

shok – thanks for spoiling the movie for those of us who hasn’t seen it yet.

  205. gigi-hawaii October 10, 2010 5:01 pm

Even though I’d read the movie review, Hachi still made me weep. So knowing the ending won’t spoil the movie for you. Those dogs can act! Amazing how trained they are.

    Wafan,

Honestly the demand wouldnt be enough. If the marching band had a CD, how much you want to charge?

Recording time is expensive and for a marching band of 225 it will be costly.

  208. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 5:07 pm

Goooooood morning (lol), Tsaikos and Tsaikettes, Lurkers and Lurkettes!!!

  209. wafan October 10, 2010 5:23 pm

    Kazz . . .

Why would you need 225 musicians? Use the pep band — a la basketball. They have Orvis. They have the recording equipment. I am also sure someone has a CD burner. Cost? Time, blank CDs and some cover graphics.

  210. wafan October 10, 2010 5:24 pm

    Another long week ahead.

Should be a fun one, though.

Next time we’re in a big local store here, I’ll try to remember to take a picture of the Michigan/Michigan State displays. They have DVD’s, CD’s, hats, shirts, sweats, coffee mugs, shot glasses, garden stuff, etc. But, mainly, I want to get a shot of the DVD’s and CD’s they have. Wish we had better access to UH stuff, other than going through RainBowtique. We limit ourselves so badly, it’s not even funny.

  213. Shoko October 10, 2010 5:32 pm

Niners had a chance. Key word, “chance” and blew it. Unbelievable.

  214. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 5:35 pm

Posted this as #1724 yesterday and thought I’d love to see a 5000-strong super loud UH student section:

    http://www.gobulldogs.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/100710aaa.html

Students Add Flavor to Bulldog Stadium

The outstanding pageantry of Division I college football game days is driven from the student areas of stadiums.

    Oct. 7, 2010

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State students have a chance to be a part of one the most exhilarating sections in Bulldog Stadium. The student section located in south east sections, near the band, is one of the loudest and proudest portions in Bulldog Stadium.

Fresno State’s student section, nearly 4,000 strong, ranks among the biggest and most vociferous in the Western Athletic Conference.

“That is the loudest part of the stadium right there,” said defensive lineman Chris Carter. “They pack up that section every game. I’m surprised to see how full they can get it every game. As a team we appreciate their support. They know when to get up and scream and when not to. You know when the offense is on the field it gets quiet and when the defense hits the field they get real loud. The student section is a big part of the atmosphere.”

For the football players if the student section is rocking it helps the team get pumped up. Many of the Bulldogs feed off the energy of the student section and think it is important to the atmosphere in the stadium. After games the players head toward the section to celebrate with the band and students.

“Our student section is a huge part of our fan base,” said quarterback Ryan Colburn. “They are electric and exciting and it gets us fired up when we see that section full and into the game.”

For only $15 students can be a part of all the action and help fire up the Bulldogs against Hawai’i. Tickets are on sale now at the Bulldog ticket office.

“We Are Your Team!” Fresno State hosts WAC rival Hawaii on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Bulldog Stadium at 7 p.m.. Game tickets and mini — plans are available for the remaining five home games by clicking the tickets icon at the top of this page.

  215. BG October 10, 2010 5:40 pm

Took a break and toured the Fresno fan board…Bark Board, I think. It was eye opening to read the comments after the Hawaii win last night. If I had had a senior moment and forgot where I was in cyberspace, I would have thought I was back in last year’s Hawaii boards. Soooo similar! Not knocking or praising…just saying the similarities were “interesting”. I would guess that cyber fans everywhere have more in common than we know.

What I will say is how gratified I am that the Warriors have taken it upon themselves to learn from mistakes and improve. I like that. I like it that Davis is starting to play and regained his spot after starting horribly and dealing with personal issues. I like it that the linebacker who was described as not being first team material in a few pre-season posts is among the nation’s leaders in tackles (yes, Parades). I like it that the O-line has done a good job from game 1 and continues to get better. Last night was an important milestone and I look forward to the Warriors’ steadfast march to the WAC championship. I already like where they came from and where they are now. Imua

Congrats to Wahine soccer team. They beat the Bulldogs too.

  223. Pomai October 10, 2010 5:59 pm

BG I agree with the packed student section, but even now that they get in free(?) they can’t pack the place. I still think that they need to put the student section and band on the 50 yard line right in back of the team. It would be nice to see the whole stadium wearing the same color shirt, can’t understand why we can’t do the same as the bigger schools do, when you see a stadium like Michigan or Wisconson an others with a sea of red or blue it looks great.

    Good evening Tsai-kos!!

Off-topic – just got an email from Gtown about purchasing season tickets (yeah right). Prices range from $140 to $448 for a 14 game home season, plus the PSLs. No special prices for senior citizens or students under 18. They play many cupcakes pre-conference, including Utah State (in DC). Only big one is Memphis right before the start of the Big East. They don’t play on campus, so wonder how much of a cut they get?

    Wafan:

When you contacted Gwen Nakamura, did you use your real name and provide contact information besides an e-mail address including a phone number? Did you cc the inquiry to the Department of Music Chair, Jim Donovan & John Namara, Virginia Hinshaw, the Board of Regents Chair & Executive Secretary, and the UH Alumni Association? All of these people would need to be involved in any decision.

Another person/organization to contact would be the Hawai`i Tourism Authority – they have several grants programs – perhaps one of them might be appropriate for covering the production costs. Certainly, contacting the sports promotion guy on the HTA staff might result in some other financial resources leads.

At the very least, you could follow up with a phone call inquiring if she got your initial phone e-mail and see what her response might be.

After all, you work for The Government – you know how long it takes for pettifogging bureaucrats to get something done.

Hey, it took me 1,199 days to get a dangerous dogs bill signed into law from my first appearance at a Neighborhood Board meeting to when the Mayor signed the implementing legislation and more than four years to get climate change legislation on the booksl. The soon-2-b-gone Governor vetoed the latter; although the Legislature overrode her veto, she still got her way by refusing to release the funding which will disappear on December 31, 2010, unless the new Governor steps in when sworn into office on December 6

as prolific an offense as ours is…the wolfpack are averaging 30 yards more per game than we.

this saturday, it will be a daunting task to upset the heavily favored wolfpack. it is no wonder that mack is calling everyone to pack the stadium. he is well aware how much a sold out aloha stadium with 50k raucous locals can mean to this team during this game.

    you a fan?

    be there.

UHfan808, HTTR is short for Hail to the Redskins. The Redskins fans are much like a college team’s fans. There is a volunteer Band and a fight song called Hail to the Redskins that the fans sing after every TD!

UHfan808- I became a Redskins fan when Colt was drafted. It was like becoming a Tsai-ko. I looked at blogs, introduced myself, followed Colt through his adventures, made friends with some of the very excellent writers and bloggers and increased my knowledge about the history and traditions of the team. I bought some shirts, called in to radio shows and met some blog friends in person to enjoy games together! I am still a fan even though Colt is not there.

  306. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 8:57 pm

al, does anyone post on Sunday evenings nowdays?

  307. al October 10, 2010 8:57 pm

    this saturday,

    please no white out,

    please no green out.

    do it right.

its got to be black out!

    everybody wear black.

friday night we all meet at the south endzone with ten cans black spray paint each and we paint the turf black.

    black out!

    UHfan808 #263:

My phone almost ran out of battery while I was reading the 2000+ posts.

Very enjoyable read though. Especially Pride’s comments and Kazz’s quotes from the Fresno blogs.

  310. al October 10, 2010 9:03 pm

uhfan…i guess some still do….er…where did you go?

  311. al October 10, 2010 9:05 pm

was at the fishing/seafood expo at pier 38 today. quite a turnout.

sure wanted to purchase some of the mike sakamoto collection, but, they wanted cash.

  312. al October 10, 2010 9:08 pm

two of the culinary highlights was the lomi oio and opihi and the fish n chips basket at uncle’s restaurant.

had the one with the halibut cheeks….broke mout’ action.

spoke briefly with chef geoff. he’s still spinning out great food from his michel’s and yacht harbor restaurant days.

  313. al October 10, 2010 9:08 pm

    there was karaoke last night?

  314. PowderPuff October 10, 2010 9:10 pm

What’s up Tsaikos! What an awesome game last night – needed 24+ hours to let it all sink in. I am a mild heckler, but I seize the opportunities when I can get them. 🙂 I was waiting to unleash “Aloha means GOOD-BYE!” to the nearby FSU fans, but I actually felt sorry for them at the end. And ST – thanks so much for the cowbell. I had to go easy on it after a while though…damn that thing is LOUD. 🙂

  315. Steve October 10, 2010 9:12 pm

Hey uhfan808, you were serious about going to 500.

  316. Steve October 10, 2010 9:14 pm

  322. Slugger October 10, 2010 9:48 pm

    UHFan808,

gmahoney came by the T-Gate after you did. She used the tickets that my sister had given me. Sorry, I’m having a senior moment…can’t remember her friend’s name, Kona ???

I’m hoping my friends from FLG who are arriving on Friday will go to the game with me. I don’t think they’ve been on O’ahu, so we might have to play tourist for part of Saturday.

  323. miniMAHU October 10, 2010 9:52 pm

Hey Mr. Tsai…why struggle to find a Denny’s that opens late when I’m open allllll niiiiiiight looooong.

  332. Slugger October 10, 2010 10:20 pm

    UHF808,

Gotta take pics/vid of the haka from a vantage point lower than where I sit. If you can get to the top of the orange section when they’re warming up before the game, you might be able to get picture & sound. I watched them from the walkway btwn the North EZ and the Mauka side. Hard to hear though. I used my binoculars & could see well.

  333. Slugger October 10, 2010 10:22 pm

Almost time for the Coach Mack Show…

  334. Slugger October 10, 2010 10:24 pm

oooo, I like that number 333…

    Practice starts on Tuesday morning?

Na Koa luncheon at 11 am tomorrow…

  335. madeinhawaii October 10, 2010 10:25 pm

    Hawaii 48 … Nevada 20

I think we will shrink the pocket on Kaerpernick… force him inside and sack him 3 or more times. Taua will not see daylight…

    Coach Mack SHOW right now!!!

    Night all!

  336. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:28 pm

I’m back! Had to restart my computer, somehow I couldn’t open new pages. yikes!

  337. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:29 pm

    wow – Tsaikos are b-a-c-k!!!

  338. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:32 pm

@Steve – lol You’ve asked me so many questions that I’m just not sure which to answer first. Sometimes they’re kinda personal, if ya know what I mean, considering that I’m kinda private.

  339. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:40 pm

#313 al – mini kine, what you call dat?

  340. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:46 pm

RE Coach Mack Show – Why doesn’t the show start and finish according to the programmed times? Usually starts/finishes too early/late. Hard to set the timer to tape that kine.

  341. lil.s.808 October 10, 2010 10:52 pm

    happy 10/10/10 @ about 10pm ppls!

excellent game by the warriors yesterday! had the road ppv pkg at the office, finished up some much overdue deadlines. actually got paid to watch! few of our friends came by with our usual bunch of us their. no bbq no potluck, just chicken nuggets from Mcds, some strange wasabi-flavored snack, and diet-pepsi that was left in the fridge from a few weeks ago… no non-sense..it’s all about football!

hoping for an equally or better exciting game versus the other wac deflector, Nevada this week! been saving my vocal chords all season for this one… and maybe 42K attendance? and my score prediction – UH 52 – Nevada 34. It should be fun!

  342. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 10:57 pm

#309 oldie: hehe, me too enjoyed reading their/the posts! sorry about your battery, mine does that too.

  343. Annoddah Dave October 10, 2010 10:57 pm

    ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs,

@UHFan808 #341, usually it is called singing in the shower. This one had more than one person singing. The only porcelain around was during trips to the restroom. No water, jes beer.

there was karaoke last night? Yes, Al–but it was after the game and nowhere near your living room. No worry–it’s only the 93rd one you’ve missed, but the next one is Nov. 27 after the UH-NaMaSu game at the old secret place. Practice your Chotto Matte Kudasai–I’m getting tired of doing it for you. 🙂

HTTR is “Hail to the Redskins” ala LizKauai

    brb = “be right back”

  345. Hawaiianbod October 10, 2010 11:02 pm

On the Coach Mack Show tonight they had an interview segment with Corey Paredes. I didn’t know he was a close friend/teammate to my cousin, the late Patrick Kapahu. To this day, Corey still dedcates his play to Patrick’s remberence.

    Rest in Peace Patrick…………….

  346. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 11:03 pm

  348. jm2375 October 10, 2010 11:05 pm

howzit – just back from “bowling with the Tsais”. ST was hilarious. Nephew has a clear green bowling ball. Tsai asked “who made it? Jolly Rancher?” 😆

UHFan808 – I have been a Redskins fan ever my entire adult life. The fact that they beat the Packers today sorta surprised me. I’m still not too confident with them, unlike UH. Never know which Redskins team is gonna show up. But at least they’re not in the cellar, like the Cowgirls are!!

PP – bring the cowbell to mvb games. Let’s see how long it takes for NFA to show up. 😈

  349. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 11:06 pm

#345 Annodah Dave – ah, so you were in heaven!?

  350. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 11:09 pm

  352. UHfan808 October 10, 2010 11:16 pm

    rallying = rally

  353. Slugger October 10, 2010 11:21 pm

I haven’t read through all of the posts yet from yesterday, but I just wanted to say…

    Hiyah, midnight & Barbara!

After being up till 1:30 am + last night, with everyone else watching the replay, I got up after the slugs. I was able to pick 2 up today and introduce them to the trash can. I think I figured out a way to keep them out of garden areas. Will let you know if it works…

  354. Slugger October 10, 2010 11:25 pm

    HBod,

I saw the Coach Mack Show too and it made me tear up. Peace out, Patrick. That’s one thing I really appreciate about Coach Mack is that he tries to select athletes who have good character. Corey Paredes & his bro. Parker are good “kids”.

  355. SteveM October 10, 2010 11:29 pm

    RE: #351

Ohhh yeah… and he was determined to bring half the room up with him. 😆

    Victory toasts after every song…

Annoddah Dave really rose to the occasion last night.

So much to tell, but “what happens at a Cattle Call/Karaoke Call/cruise ship/Las Vegas stays in…”.

Say, I wonder if we can combine all four next September 17? 🙄

  356. madeinhawaii October 10, 2010 11:31 pm

My gut tells me that if Hawaii can stop Nevada from scoring on their first possession, Nevada will start having doubts on the outcome and begin to fall apart against the Warriors. Nevada has scored on each of it’s first possessions this season. Our Warriors will need to be ready to plug the gaps and hit hard down field from the start. We have any 6’6″ players willing to volunteer to be live tackle dummies for a day or two? Got get the guys tackling Kaepernick without hesitation… once he starts running with a full head of steam, he’s a big scary object to tackle.

  357. jm2375 October 10, 2010 11:32 pm

OK, guys, gotta go to work tomorrow.

    Oyasumina-tsai.

  358. Slugger October 10, 2010 11:33 pm

    al-san,

Are you going to organize (I use that term lightly) the T-Gate menu? (J)J was saying we should use your suggestion & have an all-American T-Gate…humbuggahs, dogs (leftover from this weekend), buns (from Koa- & mini-Mahu), mustahd, ‘n relish. I’ll cook some brats in beer and then they can be grilled to finish ’em. Whatchoo say?

  359. madeinhawaii October 10, 2010 11:34 pm

Oh wait? Are we still celebrating the Victory….save that comment till tomorrow… zzz

  360. Slugger October 10, 2010 11:36 pm

Pretty neat to know a little of how you became a Redskins fan, yes, sounds like when we became Tsai-kos, just good people getting to know each other and sharing the one interest. Do you think you’ll remain a Redskins fan now that Colt is no longer there?

  371. UHfan808 October 11, 2010 12:06 am

Vote for Bryant Moniz / Davey O’Brien Award.

A vote for MO is also a vote for putting HAWAII on the map.

He is at #32, with 224 votes.

    #31 has 226 votes; Dayne Crist/Notre Dame.

MO has to finish in top 16 to advance.

since i dont wear green, black, white to games, i’m going for my multi-colored shirt on saturday. i wont be wearing opposing colors anymore… the other week i accidently put on a blue shirt with red…bad idea… grabbed a beer was trying to make a phone call and this bigger chubbier guy shouldered my arm spilling my beer less than a min after i got it! everyone around stopped… it was quiet for like 2 secs… guess they thought i was a la. tech fan or something…lol and that i would start something. anyways that ayy-whole just made eye-contact at least but just kept walking like nothing happened… that pissed me off… but went back to the beer station and the guy at least hooked it up with a freebie.

lil.s.808- our LK is your dad? Hmmm. Extremeskins is the Redskins message board. There were a few Hawaii fans on there mostly because of Colt. It was a tough place and we took a lot of heat.

    Ok. Gotta get some sleep.

    Nitey Nite again!

    Good morning Tsaikos.

Great articles ST. Some great reading online this a.m. from all the SA writers. The notes section made me chuckle after reading your piece on the O-line. The real secret to Green’s 96 yd, 3-TD performance? His mother was in the stands, all the way from Oregon. Thank you, Mrs. Green!

couldn’t sleep but just noticed because of SA’s article Carlile is officially the mayor today. i shook his hand at the la tech game. seems like a really nice guy. he let an elderly guy cut in front of him to the port-o-poddy.

and yes lizkauai, LK (that guy who makes the tsaiko name badges) is my dad…and um..my one and only dad. lol or should i say ‘he is my father…’? – something luke might have said to darth vadar if vadar didn’t say it first…

    Morning, everyone!

Just got my daily vote for Moniz done. He’s 30th at the moment.

Looks like there are a bunch of QB’s that aren’t putting up any kind of numbers in the top 30. Hopefully, the Selection Committee recognizes this, and will vote on a QB’s stats, leadership, and importance to their respective teams. We just gotta keep the votes going.

  408. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:08 am

lil.s.808… I’m superstitious too. I wear my black UH shirt if we have a huge game. If the game is close, I put on my black UH hat. If we need to rally, I flip my hat like in baseball. If we need a big rally, I have my kids hold the big, green foam #1’s. If they have school the next day, and couldn’t hold the #1’s ’cause they already sleeping, and we lose, then that’s why!

  409. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:13 am

#381… Al… Like I said a week or two ago. What if our defectors don’t defect? Let the MWC fall flat on it’s face… and we take their place, eventually.

    Utah is leaving.

Still don’t know exactly what BYU is doing in football.

Dont’ get why TCU would move to a weaker C-USA.

All the MWC would have left is Air Force! Are you serious? Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada need to wake up! Plus, our junkest team beat their junkest team! LOL

  410. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:20 am

#351… UHFan808… it’s called good, ol’ Army training! Lead by example. I won’t only ask you to do something… I’ll be sweating right there next to you too! Actually, that’s how I was raised. I just continue to practice it, through the Army to the here and now. Just a good philosophy to live by. Glad to have helped you accomplish your goal.

  411. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:26 am

So, still wondering… would (empty) SPAM cans (in place of cowbells) be allowed into Aloha Stadium as noisemakers? The rest of the country has to catch onto this craze! This would be an excellent advertising ploy… using SPAM to cheer on our team. And the country wouldn’t even understand the significance and history of SPAM in Hawaii… a story that needs to be retold!

  412. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:28 am

PowderPuff needs to train everyone to shout “4th Down”, in unison, whenever it comes up!!! That is awesome!

Carried over from the 2k Blog…

Wafan, wish we could make it out to Washington whenever UH goes up there to play. Our biggest problem is that school is already in session for our kids at that time. We have no other relatives here who would be able to watch our kids and have them ready for school, etc. For the Vegas trip, our plan is to fly our oldest daughter back from Hawaii for a week to watch them and take care of stuff here. We have tons of friends scattered throughout Washington, from relatives to retired military. Might be a good trip to eventually plan out, though. One of these days…

  414. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 3:41 am

Please, please, please… pack da student section!!!

  415. mctruck October 11, 2010 4:05 am

Kapernick will be a big problem if the UH defense cannot rush/tackle him; and because he’s a lot taller than most qb’s I think it’s important to wrapup his throwing arm, because as demonstrated in the FSU game, when the defense left the qb’s arm free while in the hold, he was able to get a pass-off. That being said….gotta watch any eligible reciever/rb who happens to be in Kapernicks radius.

Everybody gotta put in work doing atleast twenty yard sprints, to keep up with Neveda…be ready to rumble baby!!!

Kapernick’s favorite running route is around either left or right ends…..so de’s/lb’s and safties be ready to get on your horses for the gitty-yupp!!

Granted, you can’t stop everyone…but I think containing Kapernick is the key.

  416. Pride. October 11, 2010 4:15 am

Getting into the meat of the schedule. Special teams will be BIG. We’ve got to be disciplined. We have to excecute. We’ll need to play with heightened intensity.

  420. Pomai October 11, 2010 4:38 am

mctruck your right the first thing the D needs to do is put old skinny legs on his arse and keep putting him on his arse. I noticed a few time when he ran an option type play he would follow the running back to throw a block, that’s when we need Jake to just lay him out legal hit mind you.

  421. Hank October 11, 2010 4:55 am

Good Morning Pride, Pomai and McTruck…

mctruck – good points about Kaepernick..but to me, Vai Taua is also a key to stopping Nevada’s offense. As you recall, he was out of the Hawaii Bowl last year because of academics, and without his breakaway ability, Nevada was handled pretty well by SMU. Kaepernick also looked lost without Taua’s help. If our Defense is up to the challenge of shutting down the Taua’s run up gthe gut, I like our chances…very much.

    Just my <2-cents.

  422. Pomai October 11, 2010 5:00 am

Hank so far this season we have been pretty good with the run up the middle where we get hurt is the run to the outside.

  423. Garret October 11, 2010 5:08 am

Some key points from this article about Aloha Stadium:

    1. The maintenance repairs that were supposed to take 4 years are instead going to take at least 8 years. No revised cost estimate is provided, which means that it will be quite a bit more than the $185 million previously estimated.

    2. DAGS Director Russ Saito says that a new stadium site needs to be found now if it will be ready by the time Aloha Stadium’s maintenance projects are in need of replacement in 20 years.

    3. Saito estimates that the new turf for Aloha Stadium will cost *$3 million*. I did a study of the turf projects at colleges around D-IA on this blog a month or so ago and found that the normal replacement cost to get a new turf is about $700k, though some pay a little less and others like Oregon go top-of-the-line and pay about $1 million.

    4. Aloha Stadium manager Scott Chan says that the state of Hawaii will pay *ALL $3 million* for the turf replacement–he says that the NFL is not kicking in any money like they did last time for the turf.

    5. The Aloha Stadium Authority does not plan to add luxury boxes or any other amenities to the stadium.

    Garret-

Thanks for the update info on Aloha Stadium.

Time to replace Scott Chan before replacing the turf.

The complete stadium is another topic that will get nowhere with the decision makers

  430. Garret October 11, 2010 5:49 am

    d1shima,

A month or two ago it was reported that the Aloha Stadium replacement would cost $1.5 million and the NFL would be paying most of it. Now, Scott Chan says that it will cost $3 million and the NFL is not paying for any of it.

*Something* odd is happening. I have more information I cannot post about that.

  432. mctruck October 11, 2010 6:02 am

    Good morning…Hank and Pomai,

I was reviewing the stats for the NV/SJ game and what jumped out at me was that Kaepernick and Taua were responsible for all of the five total td’s that were scored…..and that was thru the rush; out of the total,(44) carries, the tandem of Kaepernick/Taua were responsible for,(33) total carries between the two of them.

For the amount of passing yds., there were no td’s thru the air….so, looks like the passing only supports the running which is mainly…Kaepernick/Taua.

So pretty much if those two guys are corraled…the machinery stops…their the oil that feeds the machine….of course UH can’t go to sleep on that theory, as maybe NV is counting on that aspect; however, stats don’t lie!!

Hey!!!, another dog…into the abyss!!, GO WARRIORS!!

  433. UHalumInOC October 11, 2010 6:03 am

There are some posts here with some really important messages, to those in power at UH. This next game can do wonders for UH football and it’s recognition outside the WAC. As already stated in previous posts:

    – Get the students out in force

    – Market the heck out of this game and it’s importance

    – Get this out on all Hawaii media TV/radio/internet/email/etc

    – Get the fans out and fill the stadium

Hawaii has the stigma of being passive and “not making waves”, but I know there are those with passion who do. The only question is, are any of those reading this blog in a position to make something happen. The UH admin, sports staff should be riding this golden opportunity and not let it go to waste. Now’s the time to pull everybody on the bandwagon.

Thanks UH football for the pasting at Fresno! Such a proud weekend to be a Warrior!

  434. mctruck October 11, 2010 6:07 am

    Garret,

I don’t like the numbers coming from the Stadium Authority; smells like the,(Bell-California)deal?

The State, or whomever the powers that be have got to review the situation!?

    I’m just sayin.

  435. Michigan Warrior October 11, 2010 6:15 am

Sounds more like people are milking this Aloha Stadium Renovation project for a few extra years of job security.

Here’s something that the local news here would ocassionally remind us of over the past three years:

    http://www.umich.edu/stadium/

Plus, aside from working around football season, we also got a couple of extra months of no construction… in the dead of winter! Seems like we’re dragging our feet at Aloha Stadium.

Also, if Oregon paid nearly $1Mil for a new top-of-the-line rug, what the hay are we getting for the $3Mil we’re shelling out? Or, are we paying one guy with a 20-foot boat to go back and forth between California and Honolulu Harbor to bring in the new surface by himself, to include drainage materials? Is that why it’s costing so much and taking so long?

    Unreal!

  436. web hosting October 11, 2010 6:50 am

  437. PolyMom October 11, 2010 6:53 am

Well HAWAII and our beloved WARRIORS did a great job against FRESNO the ARM PIT of California! What a good way to send off the DEFECTORS with a big fat “FU” to Pat Hill and FRESNO STATE!

Regarding the turf, has anyone called former Rainbow Kyle Mosley? I bet he would not charge as much as they are asking for. Being that he is a former Rainbow Warrior!

Congratulations Warriors! Great game …. and great blog!

This blog adds another dimension to Warrior football.

Also appreciate reading ST articles and getting the inside track on the team and on individual players and coaches.

This team finally jelled and everything came together in the Fresno game. It can only get better for the remaining games. Nothing going stop this Warrior team, not No. 19 Nevada nor No. 5 Boise State. nor any of the other teams on the schedule.

This is the kind of team all Hawaii expects and was waiting to cheer. Nothing like a winnah par excellence and nothing less. Rainbow Warrior fever? You bettcha!

    GO WARRIORS!

If she has no vision loss, no irritation or pain, she likely has something called a Subconjunctival hemorrhage. This is essentially a bruise on the white part of the eye. Usually people get these when they do something called "valsalva." Anything that causes a strain, coughing, lifting heavy objects, straining while going to the bathroom, etc can cause it. Make sure her blood pressure is okay. It will usually resolve on its own like any other bruise. The speed of healing depends on how much blood leaked. If things worsen or if her vision decreases, call an eye doctor immediately. Hope this helps.

Yes, the AM/PM Rejuvenating Cream works almost magically on my dry skin. ITs very hydrating, I think since it has Hyaluronic Acid in it. I was researching products online with that ingredient after reading how great Hyluronic Acid is for "mature" skin, which tends to be dry, and found a review on Hydroxatone. I fell in love with the cream right away and it hasn’t taken long to see an improvement.

  • i need hometown buffet coupons November 7, 2010 10:29 am

It’s very best to attempt and ask for a booth at Fatherland Buffet if it appears such as there’s going to be just some action — this approach you’ll steer clear of getting bumped into while you’re consuming as smartly at the same time as being able to figure out them all the action because it happens. I’m now not mentioning which these types from activities take place every single the time we eat here, less than they occur frequently enough on behalf of me to rule of thumb out fluke. If you’ve ever watched the general Jerry Springer Display — imagine some of his more interesting visitors in a buffet kind setting and that whatever you’ll be able to be expecting of just a few of your fellow dining companions.

  • i like applebees November 7, 2010 5:31 pm

On the Aplebees menu you will notice pictured red apples next to some offerings. These are the more matured selections that have been around a while. You may discover the Bourbon Street Steak and Applebee’s House Sirloin with these markings. Different things could be marked with a “:new” flag in front of them. The Steak ‘N’ Baby Backs and Madeira Steak Tips alternatives are ready to be tried by us.

So not truly on the precise same topic as your post, but I discovered this today and I just can’t resist sharing. My dishwasher quit operating so she known a repairman. Because she needed to go to operate the next operating day, she informed him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Repair the dishwasher, leave the invoice around counter, and I’ll mail you the verify. Oh, and by the way…don’t be concerned about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, don’t under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next operating day, he found the biggest and meanest searching Doberman he had ever observed. But just as she experienced said, the dog merely laid there on the carpet, viewing the repairman go about his company. Nevertheless, the entire time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling.
