Comeback plans

Tuiβ€˜atua Tuiasosopo has been attending UH spring practices wearing a “recruit” name tag. If all goes according to plan, Tuiasosopo will be identified as a Warrior.

Tuiasosopo, a former All-State offensive lineman, is re-enrolling at UH this summer.

He had signed with UH in February 2008, redshirted that year and had a limited role in 2009, after which it was announced he had medically retired.

Tuiasosopo then went on a church mission.

A few months ago, he sought a comeback. According to his father, Ana, a former Warrior and NFL player, Tuiasosopo will join this summer. He appears to be in good shape. His training involves reps of 315 pounds.

Head coach Norm Chow said the Warriors might have a scrimmage during next Wednesday’s morning practice.

The Warriors resume practicing this afternoon.

The first year, you sell season tickets based on Gib as the new coach.

The second year, you sell based on the success of the first season.

After the scheduled and unscheduled losses, you have to sell the newcomers.

  57. Stephen Tsai April 5, 2012 10:52 am

You know how companies always ask: How did you hear about us?

    I relate it to softball.

If it were not for Kevin, Pomai, Ralph, Stretch and, yes, even Steve, would the public have this much knowledge and awareness about Wahine softball?

I get UH blasts on Twitter, Facebook, etc., but Ricketts’ campaign only resonated because of Kevin’s constant updates.

And I learn from Steve about radio/TV schedules.

Does anyone else think that UH should hire fans to do the marketing?

  58. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 10:59 am

you can market all you like but in the end if the product is not successful then lose money.

yeah, use fans, create that grassroots network to get the word out or promote the respective sport. i mean if they no can decide where to start then may as well start with the fans. use the resources you already have. then maybe down the line some light bulbs will turn on and they’ll see the bigger picture better.

  67. Kevin April 5, 2012 11:38 am

31-3… and you’ve never heard about em.

When UH played on NATIONAL TV and blew out NMSU, our local TV news showed TWO highlights off of the many many clips they could have used. The team was 27-3 at the time and nationally ranked (still is).. Softball took up 1 minute and 25 seconds.

The next clip was an un-televised non-conference game at the Les and with their cameras on location, they had 4 clips and an interview. Segment was nearly 4 minutes.

It’s a popularity contest, NO rewards for success.

In a way a part of me really likes it. It has that **** you all feel to it. Kick okole, take names, while the rest of the world is clueless and sleeping worrying about Tebow fitting in at NY. It feels like an exclusive underground scene.

  74. kev-1 April 5, 2012 12:12 pm

  75. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 12:15 pm

  76. Stephen Tsai April 5, 2012 12:19 pm

Every UH student, professor and employee has a UH e-mail account (now run by Google). I would think that the UH athletic department could somehow tap into that and send out notices β€” not a flood, but some significant ones β€” to everyone with a UH account.

  77. duffer April 5, 2012 12:38 pm

    Would that be spamming? πŸ™‚

  78. wafan April 5, 2012 12:42 pm

Maybe there is hope for UH to keep their TV contract?

Would BYU reconsider their conference membership if they were also able to keep their TV contract?

  79. kev-1 April 5, 2012 12:45 pm

UH needs to pair with the media to get the word out. It needs to be a joint effort. Focusing on the UH students should only be part of the goal. They need to find ways to get the broader public paying attention.

Idea . . . Hold an attention getting event. Here’s the plan. Invite the media to a news conference. Don’t tell them it is for softball. Just leak that there will be a big announcement from lower campus. Once they show up, the presser will be a challenge to the public.

The challenge? A homerun derby. If you think you can hit a homerun off of our nationally ranked, 31-3 Wahine pitchers, step up to the plate. Heck, make it a family event and include faces and names from all UH sports. Kind of like a meet and greet of UH athletes and coaches, all while celebrating the softball team.

  80. Ralph April 5, 2012 12:46 pm

and to think Jim Donovan has a Masters degree in Marketing from UH…..UH athletics has a marketing arm, JD needs to start pushing the right buttons and get it to operate on a timely basis.

  81. kev-1 April 5, 2012 12:47 pm

    . . . and televise it too.

  82. kev-1 April 5, 2012 12:49 pm

of course, such an event is more fit for pre-season as to avoid injury. But it would be exciting.

  84. Kekoa April 5, 2012 12:52 pm

Problem is, Kevin, Pomai, Ralph et al, have done the heavy lifting for the past few years with no response in kind from the UH administration or UH foundation. The rest of the Tsaiko’s have stepped up at times to raise a little travel money, and awards. We all had a hand in pumping the crowd for donations to the *Jug.* Surprisingly, the response was always provided positive cash flow…even from our opponents (like Fresno).

Most don’t mind doing it, but please help us out here campus leaders! Give us more compliance things we can do to provide more funds. Don’t just rely on a cash strapped Legislature for handouts.

  85. Steve April 5, 2012 12:57 pm

Kevin, need to keep an eye on the weather in Provo, for Friday’s game. Do not know if they will be able to play the game. Weather, calling for rain and snow, with a high of 43 and low of 32.

  86. Kevin April 5, 2012 12:57 pm

    Kev-1,

The money actually isn’t for travel. UH pays for travel.

Someone once asked me if the money donated at games plus other booster funds were used to feed the players and coaches while on the road and that is NOT the case. Travel per diems are part of the annual budget.

Apparently some programs don’t get per diems and meals are coordinated per the coaches, also as part of their travel budget.

One of the former players last season transfered from another program and was suprised to see that each player got cash per diems. She loved it, but she was used to having their meals planned out at her previous school.

Its all the same, it’s money allocated from the travel budget. No one is left starving on the road.

  89. Kevin April 5, 2012 1:01 pm

    Kekoa,

The Dollars for Dingers/Kokua For Ks was almost a hassle to start. AKA and marketing had to wait on UH compliance. Compliance’s MAIN concern was to make sure that the pledge amounts were NOT specific to individual players (i.e. X amount of $$$ for each HR or K by a certain player only). We NEVER meant it to be that way anyway and the objective was to feature the complete TEAM stats at the end of the year which puts this into complete NCAA compliance.

But it was easy to get it going and its been in H-Mail and been plugged on the Sports Animals and Manoa Underground Radio.

  90. Kekoa April 5, 2012 1:10 pm

That’s what I mean Kevin. Why couldn’t they have started something for the Wahine before? The program lay dying for years before key Tsaiko’s came along dusted it off and got it going.

Not to mention the hoops to jump thru for the sale of simple corporate signage around the RWSS. When is that going to happen? Compliance…uh huh.

there’s nothing to worry about. it’s an honor to be nominated as a candidate and if she wins it would be icing on the cake. it won’t be the end of the world (till december) if she doesn’t win.

being recognized as a finalist shows that she excels on the field, in the classroom, in the community, and is a person of notable character. this in itself shows that the nationwide media is aware of Stephanie’s accomplishments throughout her college career.

no question, as fans of Rickett’s we will do our best to support her as we did with Kanani. all we can do is our part and hopefully the coaches and media concurs with us.

    Stephanie Ricketts 18.2%

    Niki Williams 5.9%

Arioto is really irritating.. well, her voting standing not her personally. Nice girl actually and CAL’s head coach is a class act. ALL class in defeat and ALL class in victory, but this is business… need to fend off Arioto!!!!

  110. RedZone April 5, 2012 2:34 pm

    Ricketts now lead at 18.2%

I do have another wired computer under a slightly

different name, so will try that. Thanks guys, gals…

  112. jm2375 April 5, 2012 2:41 pm

Ipu Man – you gotta clear your cache, not just refresh. Otherwise, I think you can vote every 24 hrs.

  113. jm2375 April 5, 2012 2:43 pm

Wasn’t there something with the volleyball vote about “robot voting”? Is that the thing with the Cal player?

  114. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 2:43 pm

I tried different browsers yesterday, didn’t work.. hmmm…

  117. Not an Expert April 5, 2012 2:55 pm

The jouney of people being athletes.

    1) At a young age playing to have fun. Everyone given a chance to participate. Winning not important.

    2) Getting older and playing to win or to make an all-star team competition starts to set in. The better athletes gets more playing time and looked up to, those on the bottom feels left out. The start of attrition.

    3) Playing at the older ages and through high school the better players survive. Many are good in their communities and high school leagues and start to believe they are the next stars of college or the pro leagues. Greater attrition continues at the next level/

    4) Going to college and playing many have not been bench warmers or non starters. Some believe they are the best or better than the players starting before them. Some cannot handle the adjustments. Attrition continues or change of scenery to get more playing time elsewhere at lower competition.

    5) Next step pros. Greatest attrition happens from college to pros.

Athlete’s journies end at all different stages in their lives. Some can deal with it and move on positively others may not be able to handle. For UH basketball just added drama since the quitting is happening a lot more over the last 2 years. There is the player’s story, the coach’s story and the real story in between. Every story is reality for all sides.

  118. HiFlyer April 5, 2012 2:56 pm

I just voted 3 times. To vote more than once you have to clear the cookies from your cache.

  119. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:00 pm

i don’t think cookies are in your cache. if they were then you would just need to delete cache.

  120. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:01 pm

but yeah, you need to delete cache, cookies and other site-plugins (for chrome).

  121. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:01 pm

okay . . . I let my stupidity hide for too long. what is a cache? is that the same thing as browser? I am so damn computer stupid.

  122. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:02 pm

wait a minute . . . did I just hear a bunch of people say “we already knew you were stupid, you’re not hiding anything” or is that just in my head?

  123. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:04 pm

cache is not a browser. what browser are you using?

  124. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:05 pm

    Internet Explorer?

  125. SteveM April 5, 2012 3:08 pm

It is probably a cookie for the voting.

Cookies are stored by the browser application and accessed via the browser Preferences…under “Security” usually.

You can delete individual ones or nuke them all.

Keep in mind that there are some good, helpful cookies mixed in there too.

  126. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:08 pm

    ummm, what version of ie?

  127. Kaimuki Kid April 5, 2012 3:11 pm

    kev-1

If you have a Windows PC look on the tool bar and click on tools , then internet options, and then delete browsing history, cookies, passwords etc. then you should be good to go. I voted 5 times.

  128. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:14 pm

ie is different, stay under tools, internet options, general, delete

depending on version you need to deselect and select what you want or don’t want.

  129. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:14 pm

    thanks guys . . . its working

  130. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:14 pm

that was for SteveM, not Kaimuki Kid.

  131. HiFlyer April 5, 2012 3:20 pm

  132. ewagirl April 5, 2012 3:23 pm

    kev-1 its called technologically challenged!!!

  133. SteveM April 5, 2012 3:24 pm

    RE: #121

kev-1 — a (web) browser is an application like Firefox, IE, Safari, Chrome, etc.

Each browser has a “cache” in which it stores data like graphics, text, etc. in order to faster display a web page if you go back to it a second time. The cache can be turned off completely or you can specify how hard drive space you wish to allow for storing this old info. Sometimes bad data could be in the cache that causes problems–merely clearing the cache remedies that.

The browser can also store “cookies” — which are written by web sites when you visit them. You can set your browser (in preferences) to not allow cookies of to allow under certain conditions. As I noted in #125, there are good helpful cookies and bad cookies–the worse of which are spyware or other malware.

Safari and Firefox has a menu command to nuke everything–cache, cookies, etc. Not sure about Internet Explorer and others, but should be there too. Going into Preferences will allow selective removal.

  134. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:24 pm

ewagirl . . . oh heck yes! guilty.

  135. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 3:27 pm

But guys you don’t understand, I used Chrome the first time around.. then went to Opera, no dice.. then to Mozilla Firefox… no dice. .. and then i.e…. Still no dice. Except for Chrome and I.E., I don’t believe they share the same cache, cookies, etc.

  136. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:27 pm

    oreos are bad cookies.

    whole wheat cookies are better.

  137. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:27 pm

Actually, I know a little, just not what things are called (the technical names). I’m more of a “the thing” or “dakine” kind of guy. My kids are constantly getting on me when I say “go get dakine and bring it here.” “Bring what?” “You know, the thing.”

  138. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:28 pm

whole wheat cookies? why waste your time?

  139. kev-1 April 5, 2012 3:32 pm

you guys have a nice afternoon. somebody break some news on here by the time I check later would ya?

  140. Couch potato April 5, 2012 3:34 pm

ok den, no use make light beer. lol

madeinhawaii, could be adobe flash saved the same plugins. just a thought.

  141. haka April 5, 2012 3:36 pm

not sure if this better for some in i.e or not,

but i find it a little faster to clear the cookies and vote like this

open command prompt and type in (or copy/paste)

    RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2

    Hit enter

arrow back on web page and vote again

hit f3 in command prompt and enter to start it all again and again and again…

    let’s go steph!

  142. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 3:42 pm

Okay… I found what needs to be deleted to reset your browsers..

For, I.E., Chrome, and Mozilla in Windows 7, you need to search your user directory for these two folders and delete them.

    http://www.seniorclassaward.com

    For Opera:

Delete these two files in the ‘Operaprofilesicons’ folder

    http%3A%2F%2Fwww.seniorclassaward.com%2Fimages%2Ffavicon.png

    http://www.seniorclassaward.com.idx

  143. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 3:47 pm

If you use your “file search” feature on your explorer, you can just search for “seniorclassaward.com” and delete the files you find.

  144. jiminy cricket April 5, 2012 4:02 pm

Coach Gib Arnold on 1420 now.

  149. RedZone April 5, 2012 4:30 pm

They are still trying to get a hold of coach Gib.

  150. slenzi April 5, 2012 4:30 pm

Wow, Tsaikos, #141 haka: is correct. This is so easy on a Windows 7 PC.

Under PROGRAMS, open ACCESSORIES, open COMMAND PROMPT and type in (or copy/paste) RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2,

then hit ENTER. Do not close the COMMAND PROMPT window, but go back to the Steph Ricketts vote page and hit the refresh button to bring up a fresh voting box, and simply vote again, and again, wash-rinse-repeat, haka you da man!

Go back to the COMMAND PROMPT window that you left open and hit F3, then enter to start it all again and again and again…all you have to do on the ESPN vote page is REFRESH.

    let’s go steph!

  151. Kevin April 5, 2012 4:33 pm

Gib Arnold leaving UH to be closer to home?

  152. slenzi April 5, 2012 4:33 pm

Very exciting about Tui making a comeback. Loved watching him play at St Louis and wrestling too. Here’s too his good health and happiness as a Warrior.

  153. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 4:33 pm

    slenzi,

Easier you just do a file search of your user name in documents and settings… just search for:

    seniorclassaward.com

and delete the files you find. … vote.. hit search again, if it doesn’t automatically pop back up… delete.. refresh and vote again.

That way you don’t have to input your password and member id at all the places you regularly frequent all over again.

  154. RedZone April 5, 2012 4:35 pm

I use Chrome. I just go to preferences. Then under Settings select “under the hood”. Then “clear browsing data”. In the “clear browsing data” window I uncheck all except for “Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data”. Click on the “clear browsing data” button. That’s it.

Gib Arnold coming up next according to animals.

  155. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 4:36 pm

Okay.. Stephanie is back in front!

  156. RedZone April 5, 2012 4:38 pm

You can just keep the “under the hood” window open in case you want to do it over again.

  157. RedZone April 5, 2012 4:40 pm

    Gib finally on right now.

  158. slenzi April 5, 2012 4:40 pm

Searched for Tui on Facebook and sent him a congrats note! I’m not on his friend list, but he has a great picture album open to public, and he looks very, very fit. If he looks like that and is still close to his old weight of 300 pounds, then Coach should send everyone on mission to prep for football.

That’s the main reason I keep to the simplest phones I can find. I can’t see the keys well enough to do much else with them. And I have a bad habit of scratching the glass on those portable touch screens, anyway.

  179. jm2375 April 5, 2012 6:40 pm

  189. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 8:34 pm

    Ah.. great..

I was going to suggest that you just reboot.

  190. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 8:35 pm

With hardware acceleration off, it’s a tad slower.. but if you have enough ram, it should be negligible for the most part.

  191. jm2375 April 5, 2012 8:51 pm

    Congrats to the Bows!! 8-2!

Anybody know how to view Lowes results on an iPhone. Can’t seem to find it.

  203. madeinhawaii April 5, 2012 10:38 pm

6GB should be alright… but I would try to activate hardware acceleration after the next time you reboot. If you experience the same problems. Open your video card’s panel and see if you can update the driver or re-install the same one. One of the files may have gotten corrupted.

  204. R Smoke April 5, 2012 11:50 pm

Is Lutu on scholarship? I know he was a walk-on at both basketball and football initially, but I wasn’t sure if he had been given a scholarship now. I remember an article or blog by Tsai that indicated he had asked the previous coaches about being placed on scholarship but was told he needed to prove he was worth it on the field first. Now that he’s playing with the first team, it seems he’s probably earned a scholarship at this point.

Anyway, just curious on his status?

  205. slenzi April 6, 2012 1:12 am

Thought Lutu got his scholie last year, but i’m old and periodically suffer from CRS – can’t rember stuff.
