Colt is ready for some football

Colt Brennan, who arrived in town yesterday, said he feels he has recovered from hip surgery, and he should be ready to compete fully in training camp.
Brennan said he participated in every Redskin OTA, although he was limited in certain drills.
Brennan has an autograph session today (1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Barefoot League store on Kapahulu Avenue), then he leaves tonight for Denver. He will meet with the Colorado specialist who performed his hip surgery.
Brennan, who weighs 225, has been told he needs to trim down to 212 or 213 pounds. That will happen once he receives full clearance from the Colorado specialist and can resume a strenuous running program.
Brennan also said he wants to meet with 5-year-old Joshua Miyazawa, a heart patient who has been invited to play tee ball on the South Lawn of the White House next week. They will be in the D.C. area at the same time.

The Twins — UHfan808 and Midori7 — volunteered to serve as field reporters, attending last night’s party at Aaron’s.

Here’s Colt working the room (that’s iced water):

Now we go back in time. Here’s Colt at yesterday’s autograph session at Pictures Plus:

Wideout Jason Rivers, now with the Tennessee Titans, also signed autographs yesterday. Rivers offered this tidbit: The Buffalo Bills are interested in Ryan Grice-Mullins.

Kent Untermann, former UH tight end, is owner of Pictures Plus.

Big things are expected of UH’s defense this season. It’s great to see how so many leaders have emerged during summer workouts. The secondary has some talented players, such as safety Erik “E-Rob” Robinson, cornerback Ryan Mouton and safety Keao Monteilh.

Mouton has one cornerback’s job locked down. JoPierre Davis, Calvin Roberts, Jameel Dowling and Jeramy Bryant are competing for the other job.

Here’s Davis:

Here’s Dowling, a transfer from Oregon who has been awarded a scholarship:

Here’s Bryant:

Strongside linebacker Blaze Soares, whose stinger is less problematic, is expected to provide a physical boost this season:

Left end David Veikune and right end John Fonoti, who goes on scholarship in August, are expected to provide an aggressive pass rush. Here’s Veikune:

that may have been the “forth” mispelled word.

    how was the nabeyaki udon?

  13. SteveM July 6, 2008 12:37 am

Al — looks like old camera yet (which is a very good old camera). ST has learned to crop. Just two easy lesson away from being a web photo pro… 😕

  14. addahknowjoe July 6, 2008 12:38 am

Braddah Colt getting momona. Those legs need to bulk up and be capable of maneuvering that new added girth- in, around and out of the pocket.

Colt should comeback for the summer and do the Speed and Quickness clinics.

  15. Ralph July 6, 2008 12:41 am

this site won’t load my google toolbar which has spell check.. okay, now its working although the toolbar isn’t loaded on the WB

  16. addahknowjoe July 6, 2008 12:41 am

Al- my “r” key dodged my finger on that one.

  17. addahknowjoe July 6, 2008 12:42 am

Even if I used spell check, it still wouldn’t have caught it.

  18. Ralph July 6, 2008 12:43 am

funny that all the so called analyst, Kiper etc, mentioned that Colt is to light and now he has to reduce from 224 to 212…maybe the stereotypical nfl qb is 6’5 and 225 to 240 and since CB is 6’3, his weight requirement drops

  19. SteveM July 6, 2008 12:44 am

Sorry Al. I’ll be sure to call you next week some time. Had Tonkatsu tonight and have decided the Tonkatsu Curry is better. Peaches had the Shrimp Tempura.

  20. Justin July 6, 2008 12:48 am

I hope dowling gets the start, looked good in the spring game. We are going to need his size and speed at the CB position. The competition does look fierce though..

  21. al July 6, 2008 12:51 am

ajoe….just joking around. who cares if you all misspell. we all do it all the time.

stevem…we actually had a birthday party this evening. its a first for us, we are now godparents. quite an honor for a sansei couple to be godparents for a filipino baby, i think.

  22. al July 6, 2008 12:52 am

btw, what time does genji shut down its food services????

  23. Ralph July 6, 2008 12:53 am

do we have any speed at safety?

  24. WarriorMojo July 6, 2008 12:56 am

    ST:

I’m going to be in the DC area right down the road from Redskin Park with some free time on 7/14, 7/15 and maybe 7/17. Will Colt be practicing on any of those days? And is practice open to the public? You may not know the answers to these, but I thought I’d ask.

  25. Ralph July 6, 2008 12:56 am

    watching Oklahoma vs texas fb

  26. protector July 6, 2008 12:57 am

I find it really ironic that Colt is being told he has to lose 12-13 pounds before the season starts. I just hope he’s able to avoid any serious injuries. As for the defense, I hope everyone stays healthy; they need to keep the Florida offense in check–that’s a tall order for anyone, but the look to be up for it. As I said before, I feel even more confident with Coach Mack at the helm.

  27. addahknowjoe July 6, 2008 1:00 am

This summer, Mouton needs to work on strengthening his extremities. Especially those knees.

Man, I hope the coaches give Mouton a chance to do return duty. That braddah doesn’t full around. He finds a gap, commits to it and blazes North South! None of this dancing, jukie moves. I love it!!

  28. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:06 am

SteveM and a/joe, where do you seat at the fb games

  29. SteveM July 6, 2008 1:06 am

Al — I also have your bowl from the cattle call… it was empty when I got it. Got refills?

Addahknowjoe — I used a couple of photos from Batman’s secret elf workshop in my Scrapbook. Only the shot of the sports elf depicted anyone actually working the glassware–although everyone helped. 🙂 Me helping with a taco in one hand didn’t cut it either 🙁

Shout out to Addahknowjoe and Stretch for the glassware production!

  30. Barry Markowitz July 6, 2008 1:07 am

You’ve heard of CC’s, and Mini CC’s…late afternoon Saturday, Kekoa, LizK & I had a Microscopic CC. Not much time…but we did solve the gas crisis, made peace in the Middle East, and formulated the 2nd half game plan for the Florida game.

  31. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:08 am

Fonoti looks like he is stretching with slippas

  32. al July 6, 2008 1:12 am

ralph…..erob ran a sub 4.5 during his soph year. monteilh is a former cb and shows decent speed. i thought spencer smith also was a sub 4.5 guy. thomas probably runs 4.6 or so.

i think we will be okay there. plus, a corner or two may switch over later.

  33. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:13 am

our defense will start the year without a lot of experience…Fonoti, Soares, back up Satele and Mouton missed a lot of pt with injuries…new corners….Montheilh lost some pt with injury and Patek is gone…on line Noa and Laefaele graduated..The coaches will have to do their best coaching in August to be ready with the best 11.

  34. addahknowjoe July 6, 2008 1:15 am

LWJ needs to trust his abilities and hit those holes and gaps with intensity. Too often he’s apprehensive and waiting for that perfect hole to develop. That split moment of hesitation is more than enough for the defense to gobble him up. He needs to believe in his line, read their hips, trust the gap will materialize and just go for broke.

I just know, once LWJ breaks into the secondary, it’s ovah! 6 points, baby!

  35. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:15 am

Advertiser sunday ed. online already posted

  36. al July 6, 2008 1:16 am

ajoe….you are right. i would love to see mouton and lane returning the k/offs with washington the punt returner. i thought they were the three best in those slots.

nothing more exciting than watching a kick returned to the house.

  37. al July 6, 2008 1:17 am

fonoti and those slippers. not a good combo.

  38. SteveM July 6, 2008 1:19 am

Al — on a week night, I think midnight. On a Saturday, I was told 12:30 AM. But if you know the waitress, maybe later…especially if you hold a water pitcher, wear watercress sprigs, look like James, or sing like A-joe and RK.

Ralph — this year I am sitting in JJ yellow row 7 & 8 with LizKauai and JaM

  39. al July 6, 2008 1:19 am

ajoe…i totally agree with your assessment of lwj. great runners actually don’t see the hole, they “feel the hole opening”.

    ST- any insight to that?

  54. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:43 am

SteveM not bad, 30 yard line in yellow, mauka…afternoon game would be tough, sun directly at you but I don’t know if any of the games will start by 6.

  55. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:45 am

Kazz and d1shima I believe are in the north endzone, Kazz in orange..A Houses in South yellow…the money man, stretch in the loge next to the opponents coaches box

  56. las vegas July 6, 2008 1:48 am

    A-Joe
‘Skins only signed 2 or 3 of 9 draft choices so far, is this the new Jim Zorn approach?

Most teams scramble to sign way before fall camp.

  57. BigWave96744 July 6, 2008 1:50 am

    Hey Stephen,
You know what is an insult…
    Athlon Mag rates Hawaii’s DB’s #8 out of #9….

Infact here is Hawaii breakdown per position:
    LB #1
    OL #3
    QB #4
    DL #5
    RB #8
    WR #8
    DB #8

  58. las vegas July 6, 2008 1:50 am

I guess no need panic, he is on the official roster, had his team photo taken in the #5 jersey and should clear medical anyday.

  59. Ralph July 6, 2008 1:54 am

Bigwave they got to earn respect, all newbies or a lot of newbies per position except LB

  60. BigWave96744 July 6, 2008 2:19 am

    Ralph,
    Quick friendly question…
How would you rate our DB coming into 2008 vs any prior years under JJ?

To me we are the deepest we have ever been at CB, SS, FS….
    – Mouton already showing he’s worth the price of admission
    – Dowling listed as a backup to JP Davis despite playing 11 game as a Junior at Oregon
    – Keao, Des, E-Rob, C-Rob returning for their senior campaign
    – and we aren’t even factoring in incoming JC Bryan, Black, and Christensen and Oregon State transfer Mana Silva…

I guess #8 out of 9 WAC teams is a slap in the face.

Oh BTW, Athlon has Returning All-WAC Kicker Dan Kelly as 3rd team 😮

  61. Rob25 July 6, 2008 2:22 am

    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!

Wow, you guys are hard core! I was just on lurking because I am printing out my boarding passes for my trip to Vegas tonight. I was camping on the west side at Waianae Rec Center since Sunday and now some time with hubby before he gets deployed.

I miss being around everyone! Sorry I didn’t make the movie, but ended up working late because I was going on vacation for two weeks.

Great bio UHfan808! So nice to have a lot to read and bring back a lot of memories.

Stephen – The pics are great! Are you using the new camera now? It makes it so much nicer to have the pics when you are having to catch up on the blog.

Have a great time at the party on Thursday…I’m hoping that I will be a millionaire by then! Wish I could be there though…love the Tsaikoware!

    See all of you soon!

  62. 99club July 6, 2008 2:22 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

Great to hear about Colt’s hip. He should be fine. Agree with protector: Would you have believed anyone if they had told you last year that next year Colt’s going to have to lose 10-15 lbs.? Too funny.

Eh, get surf closer to DC in Ocean City, MD. Good fun going out to bodysurf and the boogie boarders asking “How do you do that?”

    LV-
The practices are open to the public, for a price. That’s one of the many reasons most Skins fans hate Snyder.

  63. Ralph July 6, 2008 2:29 am

bigwave on paper and prior HS and Juco experience they did very well, but this is D1 and we open with Florida…Not a lot of experience, as JJ always said, let’s see what we have when the lights go on. Davis, E Rob and C Rob didn’t take a lot of snaps last year.
Bryan, Black, Christiansen and Silva, zero D1 snaps last year. Dowling coming off an injury year, knee or ankle injury, is he 100 physically okay and is mentally ready to go full contact immediately or will he paste himself and hedge while he adjust to post injury play
lots of questions, and therefore, we’ll see when the bright lights go on and 90K gators are yelling, ready or deer in the head lights. I want them to do well but realistically they need game speed which comes with experience and lots of playing time.

  64. Ralph July 6, 2008 2:51 am

July 6 Dallas Morning News provides info on slicing up the scholarship pie…interesting to note which sports, men and women, are full ride scholarships and which ones are equivalent (each scholarship can be divided) and the number of scholarship awarded to each sport.

  65. Ralph July 6, 2008 2:54 am

A/joe always pulls an Esme, pops in, quick exit stage left..

  66. Ralph July 6, 2008 3:18 am

where did everyone go? reading the HA morning paper?

  67. Pomai July 6, 2008 3:27 am

IMHO if Jason Rivers can keep his head straight he is going to open some eyes in the NFL!

  68. Pomai July 6, 2008 3:31 am

To the party planners, I know it’s late but one suggestion, If I was planning I would make sure there is an air hockey table around somewhere!!!!!

  69. chawan_cut July 6, 2008 4:31 am

i hope i don’t get smu’d for my video opinions yesterday. just had to express my thoughts about the whole thing.
won’t be the same without the behind the scenes/players view/fresh perspective of practices/game day/etc. it just won’t seem right without our favorite videographer running the sidelines this year.
what’s their take on you crossing over into the photography trade?
ok, i’m not helping my cause here.
    good morning!

  70. Garret July 6, 2008 5:33 am

KHNL story about the NFL players who helped out with the Samoa camp:

“It’s always a dream of mine to come back and teach the kids, the things that I went through and stuff like that. Try and give back as much as I can, you know I love this island, born and raised here, and i’ll love it to death,” said former UH Warrior and Cleveland Brown Defensive End Mel Purcell.

“It’s one of the greatest opportunities they’ll come across. When I was here I didn’t have anything like this, I didn’t have guys from the pros, retired future hall of famers come back and give back to us. But i’m grateful I could come back and do something great for my people, for my home,” said former UH Warrior and Miami Dolphin fullback Reagan Mauia.

Retired San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Jesse Sapolu is a four-time NFL Super Bowl champion. and though he’s never lived in American Samoa, he’s visited many times, and he sees a lot of potential in the young men.

“The floodgates are starting to open and the NFL is looking to make American Samoa the Dominican Republic of baseball on the football side so it’s very exciting,” said Sapolu, also a former UH Warrior.

“I saw one kid who didn’t have any shoes on, who didn’t have any cleats on, and that used to be me. When I left this island I didn’t even have a shoe, so it just took me back and humbled me to see where i’ve come from,” reflected Mauia.

Though the camp’s primary focus is teaching the game of football, players also took the time to hit home on another subject.

“Always make education the first priority because without that, you can’t go to colleges or anything like that,” advised Purcell.

“I just can’t wait for the future and see some of the kids in the NFL, it’ll be awesome,” said Mauia.

And they hope the cycle of giving continues.

“I think for any Samoan who makes it to the next level, whether it’s college or the NFL should come back to help out,” said two time Super Bowl champion Ma’a Tanuvasa.

  71. Garret July 6, 2008 5:40 am

KGMB has an article and video about Colt.

Colt is only in town for the next day, but with Davone Bess and Ryan Grice Mullen in town he says it’s nice to catch up with old friends and some of his old hangout spots.

“I don’t get to do what I really want to do and enjoy myself, but obviously there are a lot of restaurants that I would love to go to, would love to go back and eat, but mostly the beach though, and my friends and all the people i’ve made relationships over the last couple of years. I just miss being away from home really, the people, the lifestyle, you know it was such a blast it almost seems surreal now,” said Brennan.

  72. Garret July 6, 2008 5:43 am

I liked Ferd’s column today and agreed with his take on the coaches and APR.

  73. MeiLing July 6, 2008 5:50 am

    Aloha Kakahiaka!!!

All the best to Colt, Davone, Ryan and the players who are out there working to hold down jobs.

Exciting to see pics of the Warriors at UWs, ST. Mahalos! Gets me ‘up’ for football season, as I sit here on the DL with my knee.

  74. MeiLing July 6, 2008 6:14 am

    Rob25,

Have a good trip to LV! Lots of aloha to you, hubby & ‘ohana. Hearing that your hubby is being deployed soon touches that spot in my heart. Malama pono.

wot??? Is Liz actually wearing a muumuu at the Rotary function last night? Way to go! Nice pic!

  76. BigWave96744 July 6, 2008 7:01 am

    Ralph,
Why you going to judge the team just on the Florida game?
I’m talking depth for the whole season…

In the past we had guys starting that were walkon who no one even knew of…

Remember Freshmans Ryan Keomaka, Keao, Brad Kalilimoku, Dane Porlas all starting a few games at DB???
Remember coverted Frosh Kenny Patton moving from WR to DB and starting?
Granted they all blossomed later in their career but to think we we really hurt in recruiting DB’s early on…

Heck we could have a Leonard Peters, Abe Elimimian, Jake Patek, etc and still have fits with Florida’s WR (who BTW is rated #1 in the country coming into 2008)

If anyone is going to judge any player on this team based on the Florida game, they better remember They have the #1 QB and WR corp. and #2 LB corp

On paper they are way better than Georgia and in the last 15 years the only Non Conference games Home or Road to beat Floriday has been Florida State and Miami…

I’m support my Warriors 100% til the last snap, but will in no way use the Florida game to judge any one particular player or position corp…

  77. LizKauai (Treo) July 6, 2008 7:12 am

  78. LizKauai (Treo) July 6, 2008 7:16 am

    Good Sunday gang!

So Rivals have Cincinnati pre seasoned ranked at # 26. Since we play them at the end of the season, and if both UH and Cincy do well through the year , imagine the end of year rankings possibilty!.

BTW, would be interesting to get Colt’s personal mana’o on this coming seasons outlook. And no hold bar.

    Hi kshakak!

  93. wafan July 6, 2008 8:57 am

    Hey LizK!!!

How is your foot doing? Sounds like you and the GG’s had a lot of fun last week at the course.

    Oh, and congratulations, Madame President!

  94. Justin July 6, 2008 8:58 am

Who will the starting safties be?, there is good talent and depth at the CB position. I thought that monteilh and D. thomas were kind of shaky at times, Thomas can hit a little but hes so skinny and not a burner.

  95. bighilofan2 July 6, 2008 9:01 am

Plantar fasciitis is so right on. Good one LizK.

Nice pics of the twins with Colt, etc. And the dessert looks divine. “Very good food!” What did I tell you, ST?

  101. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 9:47 am

    Gigi:
You also suggested players should play in sandals, so I think we can call it a wash.

  102. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 9:49 am

haha ST. You made my day! But, if the players are like me, with a big toenail that sticks up and rubs against the shoe, they really should take my advice to heart. Open toe sandals are the thing to wear! So comfy, just like a baggy muu.

    Good Morning erryone!!!

YeeeeeeeeHawwwwwww!!! I look at the pics, read da posts and my Warrior blood is nearly boilin’!!! To all those jerks who doubted our boys in the NFL draft, I say, the pics don’t lie!!! And I have to believe the RGM will be with a team soon, as Rivers reports. All of them guys, CB, JR, RGM and DB; just give ’em a chance and they WILL play!

And I also say “guck the ‘Fator” hype. Da Warriors aint flyin’ into the swamp to be intimidated, and people are gonna learn real fast just how good our defense is, and that our offense can still throw but will run with power, finesse, or speed. Pick your poison!!!

    Like bhf2 sez, 55 days!!!!
    GO WARRIORS!!!

  107. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 10:06 am

Florida is counting on the heat and their depth to intimidate the Warriors. We need at least 2 at every position. Good Conditioning, man!

Kekaula doesn’t like to eat at Camelia’s. Something about having to cook your own food.
In Dallas, there’s a restaurant called the Butcher Shop, or something like that. You go in there, and all of the uncooked steaks are spread out behind a glass. You pick out your steak, as you would in a butcher shop, and they cook it for you.

The next time the Warriors play at Nevada there will be new turf on the field. Nevada has to put in new turf 2 years early. Funny how the turf was insured to last for 8 years…and they are having to replace it right after the insured period ends!

The FieldTurf surface at Mackay Stadium will undergo maintenance on July 21, and Nevada officials hope to replace the surface before the 2009 season, associate athletic director Keith Hackett said.

The cost of the re-surfacing will run about $500,000, Hackett said.

“We just didn’t have all the funds in place (to do it this year),” he said. “We will next year, no doubt.”

“We have to continue to work on funding,” Hackett said. “People are losing jobs. It’s happening across the campus. We’ve certainly got to be prudent with the dollars we have.”

The surface — the blades are a combination of polyurethane and polypropylene that rest on a 200,000-pound base of cryogenically ground scrap rubber and silica sand — was installed before the 2000 season at a cost of nearly $600,000. It was insured by Lloyds of London for eight years.

Nevada was the second college to install FieldTurf, after Nebraska and simultaneously with Washington. At the time, it was expected to last 10 to 12 years.

“Who knows how (FieldTurf) breaks down? It was supposed to be 10 years, but we got a good eight and we’re going to get another.”

Interesting to read about the results of the steroids testing in Texas High Schools. It is nice that the use of steroids by high school students is down so much!

According to results from Texas’ new high school steroid tests, only two kids in 10,000 came up positive this spring.

For this, taxpayers spent about $3 million.

Last year, the Legislature approved random steroid testing among high school athletes and set aside $6 million over two years for the UIL, which oversees the testing program through a third-party firm.

It is the largest testing program in the nation. Advocates will tell you it’s worth every penny — that it will weed out cheaters, and that the threat of a random test will deter kids who might consider juicing up.

The current program, as it is, contains three major problems.

Here’s the first problem: the sample size isn’t big enough. According to an estimate from the UIL itself, about 740,000 kids play high school sports in Texas. In this first round, however, only 10,000 kids were tested. That’s a measly 1.35 percent of the student-athlete population.

Here’s the second problem: Use of steroids is believed to be going down.

According to a 2003 study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 6 percent of 15,000 students surveyed admitted trying steroid pills or injections.

A study conducted by Texas A&M, which surveyed 141,000 students in grades 7-12, concluded that steroid use dropped from 2 percent in 2004 to 1.5 percent in 2006.

Among 12th-graders only, the study said, steroid use dropped from 2.4 percent to 1.8 percent.

  120. chawan_cut July 6, 2008 12:10 pm

Stephen, funny you talk about the Butcher shop in Dallas. I went there when Savo & the UH bball team played Xavier in the NCAAs.
after a long flight there, we didn’t feel like cooking our own steaks except one of our friends. it took him longer than he thought. we were halfway done eating the steaks they cooked for us by the time he got back.

  121. chawan_cut July 6, 2008 12:17 pm

Yesterday was the only time since the Spring Football Ohana Festival in 2007, I actually planned on getting Colt’s autograph.

Normally I am not big on signatures, but in this case this one was just for me.

***Awkward/funny moment was when I presented Colt my helmet to have signed. Now, I bought this helmet a while back and it is the exact full sized authentic replica of what Colt wore up until his last home game vs Washington and one unique thing that stands out is the “ST” Sean Taylor tribute decal on the back.

After Colt passed for the winning TD in that game he, along, with Davone Bess, and Ryan Grice-Mullins were shown on TV with their helmets off and all pointing to a small round “ST” tribute sticker on their helmet in honor of the Redskin’s DB that passed away around that time.

Now, Colt takes my helmet and takes a second and a third hard long look he then looks up at me and asks with a serious face, “Where did you get that S.T. sticker”. It took me by surprise and I just said, it came with the helmet along with all the other helmet stickers.

He then put the helmet down and smirked saying: “wow, that’s crazy because I had my helmet stolen…”

Now if I were to slow down time, several thoughts entered my mind while we had this brief exhange:

-Wow, that’s cool to know that of all the other helmets he signed mine looks pretty accurate for him to stop to take notice.

-Then I was thinking back to when Stephen mentioned Colt’s helmet was jacked at USC when it got shipped there by accident.

Needless to say he laughed about it and jokingly suggested that I took it.

    Funny/awesome moment.

    Made my Saturday.

Thank you so much for signing my football, taking pictures with my Tsaiko sister midori7 and I, and allowing us to take a couple more of you walking around.

It really was such a thrill to talk in person with you for a bit and see you’re doing well. We got a kick knowing you were in the same “area” just hanging out with your friends and buddies.

Thanks too for coming back to visit us at home and topping off what was an already awesome Fourth of July weekend for me!

Good luck in all your future endeavors — remember we back you up no matter what!!!

I liked Ferd’s article on the WAC payout. I guess it’s too early to know precisely how much Fresno St. winning the baseball championship earned the WAC and what our share would be, if any. Did it occur in a different ficscal year?

  142. FloridaTed July 6, 2008 3:46 pm

    Evening, Tsaikos and Tsai-Meister,

From everything I read it’s pretty clear that Colt has absorbed Hawaii in his blood. He’s definately, full on on local. Really nice to see.

  143. Garret July 6, 2008 3:49 pm

    99club,

There is no revenue for baseball, so I do not think that there is *any* payout for Fresno State winning the baseball championship. Only football and basketball gets those payouts from the NCAA.

We just got home and have to leave again, so I guess I’m pulling an Esme.

  144. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 3:50 pm

So, Colt says to me: “Uh, thanks to your blog, I signed autographs all night.”
I said: “Oh, nobody reads the blog.”
    Colt: “Everybody does.”
    Awww ….

  145. Esme July 6, 2008 3:52 pm

    ANYWAY …

On the off chance that Colt does read today’s blog thread:

Colt, I and my ohana are soooo very proud of you! And even as your career takes you many miles away from what will always be your Island home, we will unfailingly follow your progress, pray for you on every challenge you face, and cheer your every success.

One of these days I’ll finally get to shake your hand in real life and thank you for the awesome ride you led us through while at UH. Until then … go, go, geev um, Colt!

    *high fives* and *knuckles*

  146. 99club July 6, 2008 3:52 pm

    Esme, er, Garret,

Thanks, I would have thought there would be some TV cash to be had. Oh well, it was a fun series to watch!

  147. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 3:53 pm

    It was 2 1/2 minutes.
Here’s the deal. Esme pulls an Esme. I show, she says she has to go. I begged her to stay. Nope. She has to do an Esme.
Then 2 1/2 minutes later the phone rings. It’s Colton. We were chatting about the 5-year-old kid he wants to visit. Then I see Liz, and I hand the phone to her. She talks to Colton for a couple of minutes.
After I hang up with Colton, I had to make a tough call: Eat or rub it in on Esme.
    What would you do?

  148. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 3:55 pm

If it means anything, Terry Brennan (Colt’s dad) really enjoyed Midori7’s pictures.

  149. LizKauai (Treo) July 6, 2008 3:56 pm

Ted- Colt was so happy to be back in Hawaii. What a schedule he must have had! Nevertheless, he is still the gracious, respectful, fun person he is and we are all so lucky to be able to call him “our own”.

Go!ng back to Kauai now. Plane is full. Good news for Go!

Mahalo A-sports for my wonderful present… and PP for being you.
4 more days til the Bash!

  150. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 3:57 pm

Kekoa’s nephew (backed by Addaknowjoe and Kekoa’s better half) did a great medley, including our favorite: Kanaka Wai Wai.
(No, it’s not named after the Princess.)
Didn’t you think it was awesome, Esme? Oh, wait, Esme had left by then. My bad. Ne’er mind.

  151. Esme July 6, 2008 4:00 pm

ST, let’s get something straight here: I was there for two. and. a. half. HOURS. before you sauntered in. So while I guess anything I do technically is “an Esme,” this was NOT “an Esme,” inasmuch as “an Esme” can mean stopping by only briefly.

    Got it?

OK, good, because I just gave myself a headache writing that rebuttal. 😆 😆 😆

And … I had to go because it’s a work day. If you were gonna fund my paycheck today … well, THEN I would have stayed. Well, that or if you were gonna sing “Lion” …
    😉

  152. Stretch July 6, 2008 4:01 pm

ST – I think there are a lot of people who “enjoy” midori7’s picture.

  153. Esme July 6, 2008 4:03 pm

ST, I notice you had nothing to say about the four or five times I sang various songs.

Oh, wait you weren’t even there yet. Sorry, MY bad.

    😈

  154. Stretch July 6, 2008 4:06 pm

    esme – good come back!!

it is all even ST – 1 and Esme – 1. who will make the next punch

  155. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 4:10 pm

    Esme:
What? What? All I’m hearing is: “Hi, and I’ve gotta go now …”
And four songs in 2 1/2 hours? Who are you, Don Ho?
Well, folks, I did have the pleasure of seeing Esme jumping up and down in the middle of the street.
    Priceless.

  156. Stretch July 6, 2008 4:12 pm

    ST – that’s only worth 1/2 a point

  157. 99club July 6, 2008 4:16 pm

    Stretch-
I dunno…that Don Ho line was pretty good. 🙂

  158. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 4:17 pm

Speaking of “pulling an Esme,” was that Stretch doing his hi-and-bye impression?

  159. Stretch July 6, 2008 4:20 pm

ST – that is NEGATIVE 1-1/2 points for insulting the scoring judge!! New score is ST-0, Esme 1.

  160. Esme July 6, 2008 4:22 pm

Yay! Stretch is my bff du jour.

  161. Esme July 6, 2008 4:27 pm

Whoops, forgot to include my *rim shot!* there.

Well. ST, for poking at me so much, you can bet that is the last time you will ever see me walk out in the middle of a freakin’ cul de sac to spell out your name with my arms cheerleader-style solely for the purpose of guiding you over when you get lost driving around. The LAST time you will see that.

Or … rats, OK, maybe not the last time. Because I think Liz may have shot pictures. 🙄

  162. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 4:29 pm

you can’t have a bff for only a day.

Well, Esme, you should feel honored that folks are disappointed when you leave. It could be worse. I mean, suppose somebody stayed really late, past their welcome, and we said: “wow, dude, you’re pulling an Esme.”

    Mr. Tsai . . .

Were the others “invited”? Perhaps they balked because they expected to not have to pay? Or maybe they did not know since “no one” reads your blog. Heck, professional jealousy?

On the other hand, they might be busy that night. Yeah, that is it! They are all busy that night.

    Re: WAC payout

Does the WAC office hold on to all the money then pay out the schools at the end of the school year?? I would think that they should make payouts after each sports season is over. It would help the schools with cashflow to keep the money flowing. I guess they could look at the once a year check as a “year end bonus”

  172. Rob25 July 6, 2008 6:01 pm

Thanks JaM and Mei Ling! I’m looking forward to the casino action…will attempt some craps, I think…not looking forward to the heat.

Does that mean that the WAC offices get to keep all that interest? We could probably buy a lot of soap with the interest.

    Go Warriors!

  180. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 7:30 pm

Yep, UH goes by the fiscal year, which starts July 1.
But I agree that it should time closer to the school year, which is why I think Aug. 1 would be better.
UH never can get all of its accounts in by June 30, anyway. Well, at least there was some AD who couldn’t.

  181. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 7:33 pm

    JaM:
When I got to Kapahulu, it was about 11:50 a.m. There were two lines: One to buy shirts, the other to get them autographed. One guy said he was in line since 6 a.m. I told him he should have just gone to the Ala Moana Hotel, where Colt was staying. (OK, the secret’s out.)

A few Reminders for the party

    1. I will be making nametags for everyone. It will include your blog name (if any) and your real first name. If there is anyone who has a problem, please email me at tsaikoparty at yahoo.

    2. We will have “Tsaiko” logo items for sale. Glass mugs, t-shirts and stickers. There is a limited supply but if we run out, we will take orders and make more. See attached link for pictures of glassware

    3. For people on the outerislands and mainland that are interested in Tsaiko glassware, shirts and stickers, please email me at tsaikoparty at yahoo. It will cost the same as shown plus the shipping. USPS has flat rate boxes that we can use that cost about $10 and can hold maybe 3 pieces. There are bigger boxes that cost $13 for mailing. I will work out the postage with you.

    4. We will be giving one raffle ticket to each person attending for the prize giveaways. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $2 each, 10 max. Additional donations will be accepted and all money goes to UH/Football. One prize person – if you win a prize, your other ticket numbers will be void. We want more people winning rather than one person winning multiple prizes.

    5. Reminder for those who have not mailed out checks yet, I suggest you mail it out tomorrow. If I don’t receive it by Thursday morning, you will be required to pay the walk up fee of $25 per person. Any mail that is received after Thursday will be returned.

  188. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 7:56 pm

And, to think, we were 6 feet from Kapolei High today:

With an excellent showing at the Rising Stars Camp, the Trojans did not
hesitate to tender an offer to Stanley Hasiak IV. Speaking with his father
and uncle, SCPlaybook learned of Hasiak’s plans.

Stan Hasiak, the Scout.com #18 ranked 4-star offensive tackle received and
offer from the Trojans after a superb performance at the USC Rising Stars
Camp. Hasiak, 6’-6”/340/5.8 (40) is from Kapolei High School, Kapolei
    (O’ahu, Hawai’i).

Said Stanley Hasiak III (father), “Stan has a lot of offers, including
Washington, UCLA, Arizona, Cal, among others. This offer from USC changes
things. You get an offer from a top school like this and you have to take a
    closer look at things.”

Stan’s father and uncle (David) accompanied the younger Hasiak on his
current California trip. “We got here Monday and attended the UCLA camp
earlier in the week, he did this USC camp and will travel up to Cal on an
unofficial trip tomorrow,” said the senior Hasiak.

“We are all pretty excited about this offer,” he continued. As if to display
the excitement, earlier in the day, uncle Dave walked the USC campus donning
    Trojan apparel.

“Stan will take his time with his decision, visit schools and enter the
school year before he makes his decision. He will probably announce his
    decision after the football season.”

Hasiak held his ground and was impressive during two days of the Rising
Stars Camp and the coaches took notice. The Trojans offered Hasiak after the
    conclusion of camp.

Hasiak has an SAT score of 1520 and a GPA of 3.5.

Did you know Camellia on McCully has been in existence since 1991? Despite the relatively low $13 price for lunch and $20 for dinner, they seem to be thriving.

We had a terrific lunch, ate too much, reeked of Korean BBQ. When I got home, I immediately took a shower and threw my clothes into the washing machine.

I told my sister and mom not to wear dry clean only clothes so they wore shorts or a muumuu.

  192. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:07 pm

    SAT — Isn’t the maximum score 2400?

  193. JaM July 6, 2008 8:08 pm

Sounds like Kent Untermann’s group at Pictures Plus did a better job at organizing the autograph signing.

Anyone know how the planning is going with the lower campus clean up? Every Saturday JO track and field has been using Ching field for their meets….I’m quite sure some of the clubs would be an asset for manpower. There are at least a 1,000 participants not counting parents, siblings, relatives and friends.

  194. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:14 pm

Jacky Buder of Barefoot League did a good job of keeping it organized. They had four workers at the counters, and a few more passing out the shirts and felt pictures. And they had an off-duty officer to keep the peace. Plus, no shirt, no sign. They limited items to about 240.

  195. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:15 pm

Also, I heard a guy buy an extra shirt. He wanted one to save, one to wear. The shirts were that nice looking.

  196. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:16 pm

glad the signing sessions went well. I remember stories about the fiasco on the field.

  197. JaM July 6, 2008 8:17 pm

    GiGi,

    SAT is 3 parts 800 each=2400.

  198. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:19 pm

Pictures Plus — I am now very interested in that store. I might take my framed prints in because they are mildewy and moldy. Need new matts.

I think there is one at the NEX close to my home.

  199. Kazz July 6, 2008 8:20 pm

    ST,

Is practice still at 3pm tomorrow?

  200. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:20 pm

JaM — yeah, that’s what I thought. I read that the beefed up SAT does not really predict success in college.

  201. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:20 pm

    Gigi:
There was a huge difference. Kent Untermann and Jacky Buder are sportsmen and businessmen.
Untermann, in fact, earned a marketing degree from UH.
In case folks are wondering, the 75 percent of the profits went to Colt, the rest went to expenses. For instance, Untermann had to bring in boxes of mini Redskin helmets.
Untermann also paid to fly in Colt and put him up at the Ala Moana Hotel.

  202. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:24 pm

ST, I thought a portion of the proceeds would go to Na Koa.

  203. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:24 pm

    Gigi:
Pictures Plus donated two large frames to Hawaiian Mission Academy for an auction. A school volunteer was going to take out the picture, figuring it was generic. Somebody noticed the signature: Wyland.
Yep, Untermann donated a Wyland print in an expensive frame.

  204. JaM July 6, 2008 8:25 pm

ST: that sounds a lot better on the signing. Earlier post about the gentleman waiting in line since 6:00am brought back some not so nice memories with autograph signings…

  205. Kazz July 6, 2008 8:26 pm

    Gigi,

Pictures Plus has done 100% of all the framework I and my parents own.

The last thing they did for me was the 2007 Warrior Football WAC Championship poster they were giving out at the end of last season’s basketball, volleyball, and baseball games.

    They do an excellent job.

  206. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:28 pm

Some proceeds might go to Na Koa, but most are going to Colt. And I don’t think Untermann prospered at all, except to have people walk through his store.
Remember: Colt doesn’t have a contract yet.

  207. JaM July 6, 2008 8:33 pm

GiGi..I believe that test scores are just one of the factors that colleges look at to evaluate a potential student. That is why it is so important for a student to also have “good grades” , taken challenging classes in high school, extra-curricular activities, community service, etc.

  208. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:35 pm

The reason the Pictures Plus event was successful was because Untermann was wise enough to do the math: Pre-sell 1,000 tickets, and make sure Colt has enough time to sign all of the items.

This is how UH’s plan failed.
First, UH cut off access to Colt, creating a huge demand.
A certain blog host (at the request of several blog readers) suggests that UH have a signing — in the Stan Sheriff Center. A drawing would be held to determine who could go in for autographs. The blog host even suggested that his newspaper (for free) could supply the manpower. The newspaper workers would wear plain clothing, so the newspaper would not receive any publicity or benefit.
The Compliance Guy heard about this, made a disparaging comment about the blog host, and decided he would come up with a better way.
Okie and dokie, said the blog host.
The result: Thousands of people scrambling to get Colt’s autograph in a one-hour period. And even though UH said, “please do not line up until 10,” its workers did not enforce the rule. And, by the way, Compliance Guy didn’t even show up for the signing. Neither did June Jones, who said: “It’s not gonna work. I’m staying out of it.”

  209. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:37 pm

    >.Hasiak has an SAT score of 1520 and a GPA of 3.5.

I guess 1520 was high enough to interest those prestigious colleges. Hope he does well in school and in life afterward.

  210. JaM July 6, 2008 8:38 pm

Wow..truly is generous of Mr. Untermann.

Kazz: I agree..they do an excellent job in framing especially with off the norm and size items.

  211. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:39 pm

And compliance guy is now working for Jim Donovan. Auwe!

  212. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:41 pm

Untermann, Buder, the Big Island Candy guy, Don Murphy and his wife, John Fink, Rick Blangiardi, Carolyn Berry, Tony Guerrero … the list of generous folks with a passion for UH sports goes on and on.

  213. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:44 pm

Compliance Guy isn’t a bad person. He likes UH. He wants it do well. But he’s very suspicious. I dunno. Maybe when he was young he was hit by a thrown newspaper. But he always thinks newspaper people have ulterior motives.

  214. JaM July 6, 2008 8:45 pm

Many moons ago when gas was reasonably cheap one of my favorite outings was a drive to the north shore and stop for shave ice and Wyland’s Gallery.. I was able to afford an itty bitty print of whales with a calf. There I also discovered Tabora, who paints beautiful seascapes! But alas..discretionary funds now targeted elsewhere…Go Warriors…

  215. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:47 pm

Carolyn Berry — she is a patron of the Honolulu Symphony and donated $300,000 to the UH basketball scholarship fund. Great lady.

  216. Kazz July 6, 2008 8:49 pm

    JaM,

    Yes they (Pictures Plus) are.

In fact I never thought someone would try to frame a golfball and just so be it, while standing in line on Saturday I saw a custom made frame for those with golf accomplishments.

Maybe he had bad dealings with other newspapers?

  218. JaM July 6, 2008 8:52 pm

I guess compliance guy is just doing his job…

I remember emailing a request to have Brie and a few of her friends to volunteer as part of their school community service program (she needs to complete a minimum of 25 hours per year for 4 years as part of their graduation portfolio) to help with distribution of football posters and cards. By the time we got the clearance which we did…it was a little too late.

    Boy am I chatty tonite!

  219. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:54 pm

Wonder if Nadal is gonna frame the tennis ball he won Wimbledon with.

Hubby watched the tournament to the bitter end today and kept telling me not to tell him who won. He was already annoyed when I told him it went to 5 sets.

  220. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:54 pm

Carolyn Berry is a really nice person.
Her husband died several years ago, and her passions are UH sports and the Symphony. She even tried to mesh the two, encouraging Riley Wallace and Jim Donovan to attend concerts.
    It’s nice to be well-rounded.
That’s why Jeff Portnoy is an interesting guy. He’s a top lawyer, and he helped run the Manoa Theatre.

  221. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 8:57 pm

Another (surprisingly) amazing guy is Russell Yamanoha. Did you know he has great knowledge of wine?
It reminded me of the Sports Illustrated story about those football players who opened wineries.
My cardiologist is amazing, too. Dr. Hingson Chun (Roosevelt, Class of 1978; lifelong member of the Hunky Bunch) is into smoking beef. No, not that kind of smoking. He makes smoked beef.

  222. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 8:59 pm

Too bad the symphony is having a hard time, but that’s nothing new. It’s always had a hard time financially.

We used to be concert subscribers since the 1970s.

Somehow, we stopped attending concerts on Sundays.

  223. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 9:00 pm

    Kazz:
The funniest part is it wasn’t even my idea. I was just relaying it from one of our readers.
When we heard UH wanted to do the one-hour thing, we’re like, oh, my. This will be interesting. And it was.
At least Daniel Otineru got to benefit. By the time all of the marquee players were escorted away, Otineru was in high demand.
So, too, was Dan Kelly. It was funny how they wanted to get him to stop. I mean, it would have been different if he were signing with his feet. But he’s a placekicker. Who cares if he gets writer’s cramp?

  224. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2008 9:02 pm

I think the Symphony should be fully funded by the City or State or both.
There are somethings that are important to a community, and a symphony is one of them.

  225. gigi-hawaii © July 6, 2008 9:04 pm

I bet ST attended Lion King at the Blaisdell… (well, so did I and hubby).

  226. oldie July 6, 2008 9:04 pm

Brought back some dragon prints from Japan. I was going to frame them myself but decided to give Pictures Plus a try. I was leery since the framing was going to cost 3 times what we paid for the print. But they did a fantastic job. We liked it so much we decided to have them do the other print that we had.

Tsaiko Rich was very kind today in helping out Abe get back to his dorm with his bike, and had lunch with him. Could that be the first ever LoCal Micro CC? Rich probably got sworn to secrecy by Abe…and probably knows more of what is the haps with him than I do. Hope Rich and Margo get to visit in place of our family when the Trojans have family BBQ’s, gatherings, etc. Abe’s grandparents won’t be able to go to too many things, as life becomes less convenient with age. Maybe Abe and Kaluka Maiva could go with Rich to the real Local CC’s….and it sounds like Hasiak and Teo might end up there too…so if UH doesn’t want our guys, or they choose to go elsewhere, at least they can rejoice in all things Hawaiian, including supporting our UH Warriors (except maybe in 2010).

Everyone seems to remember the horror stories people shared, since I never dared to try to go to that mess, I will always remember this:

One account, I can’t remember where, but I heard mulitple people confirm this:

-When Colt was taken away from the session, some jerk yelled out “HE (colt) OWES IT TO US”…

Yup, amongst all the stuff the team gave us to celebrate last season, there are still some people with NO ALOHA.

Hope that guy never gets his Colt autograph or any autograph ever.

BHF: Great suggestion. Kinda like parents, if you always tell the kids they cannot, the more they want to. But if you give them options, they are less likely to think about the negatives.

Compliance guy, you lurking? If not, someone who lurks that knows him better clue him in.

oldie — yes, we bought the Olympics Wii game. It was great fun and not too difficult. You will need at least 2 remotes and 2 numchucks so 2 people can compete.

gigi, Garret, or anyone else with a Wii,
Have you tried the Olympic Games for the Wii?
I want to have a small contest at work during the Olympics using the game so it has to be fairly simple to learn. I read some reviews that said it wasn’t much of a challenge. That sounds like the kind of game I need. What do you think?

if you are talking about the Mario & Sonic Olympics, you can have a lot of fun with a bunch of people. For Superbowl, I bought the Wii just so we can have a competition. The easiest game to do this is the 100m dash. I had 16 people broken up into 4 – 4 person heats. Top 2 of each heat advance and so on until final race. It is funny to watch people pump their arms trying to make their character run faster.

OK, somebody needs to shoot bighilo with a tranquilizer gun.
    Love the passion.
But, you know, the past is the past.
The only thing that’s sad is that the way UH handled Colt, the Heisman campaign and the Sugar Bowl. It has been chalked up to “first time.”
But these things don’t always have encores. UH will produce great moments and players in the future, but there will never be another Colt Brennan. And the mania will never be repeated. This was a once-in-a-lifetime moment — Hawai‘i’s first kiss — and that’s why it was sad UH never had the leadership to deal with it.
That’s why folks should go to the UH Bookstore and scoop up those marked-down $5 Sugar Bowl shirts. You’ll appreciate them in 10 years.

Calling all Tsaikos. Nominate a local football player in need of New Balance Size 14 EEEE slightly broken in (3 pair) and a Nike Size 16 EEEE brand new football shoes, . I have been cleaning out Abe’s room…and we have come to the conclusion he now has an endless supply and no longer needs them, even for back-up (wrong brand is not allowed without camoflage). So let me know and maybe I can bring them on July 10th for you to personally deliver to a kid in need.

  249. oldie July 6, 2008 9:41 pm

    Stretch,

Thanks for the feedback on the Olympic Games. Which events would be easiest for first-timers to learn? Also, I’m not sure how we should organize the competition since we will have to do it in short spurts over a number of days.

  250. oldie July 6, 2008 9:46 pm

    Stretch,

Besides the 100m dash, that is. Figure we got to have several events to keep the interest up.

  251. Stretch July 6, 2008 9:48 pm

oldie – i think the 100m dash would be the easiest to learn. If you can get 4 sets of controllers / nanchuks you can split the group into 4’s. How many people you looking at??

  252. Stretch July 6, 2008 9:49 pm

oldie – I think you can do the circuit games.

  253. oldie July 6, 2008 9:55 pm

    Stretch,

I’m hoping at least 20 or 30. As I said, we’ll do it over a number of days. Got to do it during break time. Maybe run it during the the 2 or 3 weeks that the Olympics are on. I’ll take a look at the circuit games that you suggested.

  256. Stretch July 6, 2008 9:58 pm

I’ve been trying to take a picture of the “Tsaiko” stickers that we made but came out crappy so will just describe what we will have.

We have 3 sizes – 2”x3.25” ($1), 3.25”x5.5” ($3) & 7.5”x13” ($5) and 3 colors – black, silver & dark green. When you purchase one “Tsaiko” sticker, you will also receive a “Unique A-joe” sticker of same size and color.

  257. JaM July 6, 2008 10:04 pm

BHF2..I asked…about the races…too bad but kids can always chalk up “events” as learning experiences. dats wat i tell my keeds. if dey learn no need be like dat…

  258. Stretch July 6, 2008 10:06 pm

oldie – just checking the circuit events – you can go the Mercury Circuit. It has 100m dash, long jump and hammer throw. Those events are the easiest to learn and you can have 4 people competing at a time. You can also try the Stardust Circuit that has the same 3 events plus Archery. Only thing is archery is one at a time so will take a while for each to compete.

  259. SteveM July 6, 2008 10:08 pm

Stretch — send me the photo(s) and I’ll see if it is beyond Photoshop help or not… 😕

  260. Stretch July 6, 2008 10:10 pm

SteveM – when taking the pictures, the color does’t come out. It is the basic Tsaiko logo, just different colors.

  261. JaM July 6, 2008 10:11 pm

Hi LizK..very good philosophy..win win…isn’t that the basis of mediation..local style where no one has to lose face.

  262. oldie July 6, 2008 10:15 pm

    Stretch,

Thanks. I’ll give all your suggestions a look. I heard Archery is pretty neat since you have to line up the target with the nunchuk and controller.

  263. SteveM July 6, 2008 10:15 pm

Stretch — tell a-joe to give me the pantone numbers…

just kidding… send me the basic photo and I’ll approximate the colors. I’ve seen the blue and green so can guess…

Liz ~ While you and I were on the way to the airport, I was told that the band really got busy! Mrs. K tells me that my nephew Kaipo put his guitar into high gear and kicked in a whole slew of Hawaiian Songs. ST named a few that he enjoyed. I hope that the Bash crowd will enjoy his medley of songs, and appreciate the time and effort the band has put in to make this the best bash ever.

My neighbor Jenny was ‘lurking’ near the side of our house just so she could listen to the music. She was disappointed to find that this was the last practice session because the bash is this thursday. No worries. I want to keep the music going and add a little something special to our T-gates. So let the band members know how you feel when you hear them Thursday by pegging that applause meter!

  271. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 6, 2008 11:26 pm

Late last fall, I took the time to call the NCAA and WAC offices to talk to people about Compliance Office duties in general in order to get a better understanding of what to expect from Bill Bryant. I learned a lot and also got a sense from my discussions with the people to whom Bill must submit reports that this is probably the one job in any athletic department that no one sets out to hold because someone is always going to be pxxxed-off because the decision didn’t go their way.

Anyhow, BHF2, one of these days when you come to Honolulu on business – or, for that matter, to have some fun, perhaps we can talk more about the issue. My treat.

    Nite-all.

  272. Kekoa July 6, 2008 11:39 pm

Esme ~ Almost forgot my manners. Thanks for working to perfect your performance with the band. I know that it was a real sacrifice for you to give up tending to your chirrun and working your dot com job atthe same time.

I’m convinced that I’m going to have to set up an autograph session for you at ‘Picture Plus’ next Sunday….maybe a return dual signing! A day with Colt and the Sinsational Miss *E!*

I’m still trying to work out a deal with the HFD to bring you in on the back of one of the Fire Engines for your opening act. I know that this particular song will set the place on “fire!”
