Clarke, Wittek to represent UH

Two players who took different paths to Manoa — left tackle Ben Clarke and quarterback Max Wittek — will represent the Warriors at the 2015 Mountain West Conference Football Media Days in Las Vegas.

Clarke signed in February 2011, grayshirted that fall and joined the Warriors in January 2012.

Wittek was at USC for three years before transferring to UH last summer.

Both are co-captains.

The two-day event will be split divisionally. The West players and coaches will go through interviews on July 28; the Mountain reps will go the next day.

Each team is allowed to bring up to two players. Wittek is one of three QBs. Chuckie Keeton will represent Utah State for the third consecutive year. UNLV quarterback Blake Decker also will attend.

Nice reward of sorts for left tackle Ben Clarke and quarterback Max Wittek.
    Who pays for it?

  3. Arcumfortis June 24, 2015 8:48 am

Coach Chow is continuing to leave no doubt that Max is his guy. This makes sense to me and seems like an appropriately clear move. But we experienced the hype regarding Taylor Graham (next Carson Palmer etc) . Taylor proved to be a very high character guy who unfortunately never lived up to the hype on the field. Whether this was a result of injuries or simply an overestimation of his abilities I don’t know. But that experience makes me cautious about expecting too much and getting too excited about Wittek. I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I am getting fatigued with hype and disappointment.

Congrats to both of these young men. On another note ran into a former co-worker at a golf outing. He mentioned he worked with JR Hensley’s mother some years back still stays in contact and was aware that JR is now a Warrior—small world.

is this the first “post” since ST returned from vacation?

or, did I miss the other(s) – as usual!!!

  7. A-House June 24, 2015 10:53 am

    ST:

did you miss all the flowering Alzebia (sp) trees in the valley?

began to bloom just before you left and it was a beautiful sight – like a sea of very light green velvet!!!

most surprising was the number of trees that line the left middle and side of the valley – all the way in past the “farms” – hundreds if not thousands of them tall buggars – most must be well over 90′ tall – about the same height as those near the bulletin board.

Sure does seem like we’re throwing all our eggs in Wittek’s basket. He is still unproven to me. We shall see.

for those who want UH to play a total D1 football schedule

review the teams the Power5 schools play to “pad” their won/loss record – many will play at least one lower level school

    same applies to basketball scheduling

  13. A-House June 24, 2015 1:15 pm

hope Matlin can schedule the “lower” tier Power 5 schools for football – don’t need to play the top 3 teams in a conference, but if can, why not!

could be a powerful recruiting tool for those schools to know that to begin or end the season, it will be in Hawaii – very few, if any, will have the opportunity for a free trip to “paradise” in their life time!!!

people are paying $125/seat to see Janet Jackson – can a marquee school also generate the interest for football? it will a heck of a lot less for non-premium seats at Aloha Stadium.

yes, UH may lose, but hope is eternal

There are game time players and then there are practice players. Let’s hope Mr. Wittek is not the later.

    Re: QB
UH actually had a chance to pursue another transfer QB recently but declined because it is committed to Woolsey, Reilly, Zwahlen and Milton next year.

  18. H-man June 24, 2015 4:08 pm

It seems a lot of good things are happening with UH Warrior football. Getting Paul Harris really late in the recruiting cycle is one of them. Maybe the pendulum is swinging the way of the Warriors this season.

    Great Afternoon All!

    Represent!

  20. Akamai Okole June 24, 2015 4:18 pm

    Hoos winning!

  21. st. anthony trojan June 24, 2015 4:52 pm

The pendulum of the ‘warrior’ has always been swinging n being positive 4 a long time…

It is the pendulum of the previous AD office…that has, for the most part, been very negative…and counter productive….n that same pendulum is also the same one in the admin offices there at upper campus…not as noticeable in football…as in basketball right now…but still counter productive and it affects all sports…cuz of our money woes….n now the shibai….they going to look into the sports dept. to see how they spend their money…must be a april fools joke here in june… the cancer dept. has been overspending by the millions… n nothing…n when called about it…apple got canned…funny stuff huh…

  22. Akamai Okole June 24, 2015 5:47 pm

    Hoos won

    Guud Evening Tsaikos…bootiful eve…

    nice and cool right now….

islandman…Mahalo for the vid….if special teams can block, we got one who can take it to the house…good get.

  25. A-House June 24, 2015 8:05 pm

    Harris:

notice how most if not all his kickoff returns were to the “edges” – hope he is not “forced” to run inside by the special teams coach

seems to have good speed, elusiveness, quick feet, good hands

all he needs now is decent blocking

    2 to play 2?

Hawaii (Wittek & Chow’s new staff) and Colorado (MacIntyre in year 3 of rebuilding) may be the NCAA equivalent the NFL’s Tennessee (Mariota) – Tampa Bay (Winston) matchup. Then Ohio St, UC Davis, Wisconsin, and Boise St games should give next year’s field of starter QB’s a chance to get experience and some exposer.
