Thanks again to Charlie Wade, who was today’s guest on the Warrior Beat Show.

His comments were both interesting and inspiring.

Thanks also to  our readers for asking very good questions.

Coach Wade- Are we going to see an international look on the team now or in the future? (I LOVED those days!)
    Good luck this season!

    Good morning Tsai-kos!

    Top 10!

Happy belated birthday to Malcolm Lane and Happy Birthday to Jameel and Michael.

    Work now. hiho. whoooooooosh.

  10. lava December 29, 2009 7:22 am

Michael Carter is a stud. Toughest qb who ever played for UH.

  11. Bulla December 29, 2009 7:27 am

    lava

i agree, he worked the offense well, but man that guy could take a beating….one of our best qb’s to ever be a Warrior (with the offense they had at that time). as far as toughness, he was the toughest, hands down.

  12. tommui December 29, 2009 7:29 am

    Good morning all.

If ST has no recruiting news to share, what about Al?

  13. Da Punchbowl Kid December 29, 2009 8:08 am

    Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂

Good morning to you, Tom Mui, Esquire. How are you today?

Yep “Bootsy”, as his runnin mate Travis Sims used to call him, was a superb athlete. Great memories of both.

  14. Stephen Tsai December 29, 2009 8:14 am

Brashton Satele should be able to start processing his appeal next week.
    Why the delay?
The state imposed (paid) furloughs on state workers through the end of the year. There’s nobody available to file his appeal.

  15. NYUH December 29, 2009 8:17 am

It will be an interesting competition between Lane and Taylor for both WR and KR.

  16. Slugger December 29, 2009 8:29 am

    Happy birthday, Jameel!

    Happy birthday, Michael Carter!

    Aloha Kakahiaka, Tsaikos!

  17. ai-eee-soos December 29, 2009 8:31 am

    re # 14.

The process should have been started BEFORE the furlough days.

This way of operating at the last minute must be typical of the way

the administration works (or doesn’t work). JD – are you there ?

I sure hope for the best (and soon) for Brashton.

  18. duffer (iPhone) December 29, 2009 8:38 am

    Paid furlough, that’s a nice gig! 🙂

    where does one sign up?

  19. Nalani December 29, 2009 8:45 am

Michael Carter’s son’s name is Chase, as in Chase Michael Carter. Cute. He’s married to kumu hula Maelia Lobenstein. Much aloha to their family.

  20. Da Punchbowl Kid December 29, 2009 8:53 am

    Howzit Nalani-
    How was you guys’ Christmas?

  21. Nalani December 29, 2009 8:58 am

Hi DPK. Christmas was nice. Needed a break after all our shows. Got all the shopping done and then enjoyed the holidays w the kids.

  22. tommui December 29, 2009 9:01 am

DPK – when will we have another CC?
Should I ask you about the book?

  23. J-Dog December 29, 2009 9:15 am

Michael Carter was from Long Beach Poly HS.

So was Hercules Satele and George Daily-Lyles. Too bad we just missed out on Tepa and McKay.

I hope we can keep that pipeline open.

  24. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 9:20 am

What kind of skills and qualifications do you need to get a “paid” furlough occupation?

Problem with Govt. is that they only know how to spend money.. not how to generate it.

  25. protector December 29, 2009 9:25 am

    Question for Coach Wade:

Will you employ a similar Offense & strategies with the men’s team as you did with the Wahine (but with more speed & power)?
    OR
Will you use qualitatively different schemes & offensive sets?

  26. A-House December 29, 2009 9:35 am

    Hi Coach Wade:

Can’t wait to see your 6’9″ recruit this season.

With your 2 very tall recruits for 2010, do you plan to utilize their talents quickly or will they be a short “work-in-progress”?

  27. A-House December 29, 2009 9:38 am

    Hey Techies!

what’s with all these “pop-ups” posted 3 consecutive times within 1 minute?

  28. Da Punchbowl Kid December 29, 2009 9:40 am

    Tom-
The book is officially a movie project right now. All I can say is that things are going very very well. Thanks for asking.

  29. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc December 29, 2009 9:40 am

What’s with the “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” What does that mean? Who does the moderating? Can you see my #27?

  30. SteveM December 29, 2009 9:40 am

    Good morning everyone!

…last work day of the year for me. BBL.

  31. A-House December 29, 2009 9:41 am

    Coach Wade:

What are your next “needs” for players/positions in 2010 and beyond?

    Any exciting “local” prospect(s)?

  32. al December 29, 2009 9:42 am

    charlie

first off, welcome home. it must feel good.

it appears on paper that we finally have some size with umlauft and hunt on the outside. will the smurfs have a major role on our team this year, walker, strotman, tuaniga, and i guess dyer for example?

  33. al December 29, 2009 9:45 am

    charlie

how’s the competition going between the middles: grgas, rawson, and lofy?

  34. protector December 29, 2009 9:46 am

    lava and Bulla,

Totally agree with you gents that Michael Carter was far & away the toughest QB. Just think of what he could’ve done with healthy ribs. Thanks for the nostalgia! That ’92 season & Bowl win were scintillating!

    ST, re: “paid” furloughs

Were you talking about state workers up at UH?

As a DOE educator (also considered state workers), I wasn’t paid for
for those ‘furlough Fridays’. It amounted to an 8+% PAY CUT, making it much harder for me to pay the rent & make ends meet, so it wasn’t a “sweet gig” for us. I just wondered if you were talking about some of the other unions other than HSTA? Wasn’t aware of anyone with paid furloughs, though.

  35. al December 29, 2009 9:48 am

    charlie

after returning starting setter nejc, who has emerged as the all important backup setter?

  36. protector December 29, 2009 9:54 am

    J-Dog on 23,

I’m with you on UH keeping that Long Beach Poly pipeline “flowing”.
Let’s also hope that the Blinn (college) / Texas ‘well’ doesn’t go dry too!

  37. al December 29, 2009 9:55 am

    charlie

the men’s game is typically one of power ball an almost too predictable one of going outside with an occasional middle attack.
what style of attack will you be implementing other than the atypical?

  38. al December 29, 2009 9:57 am

    charlie

how much emphasis is now being spent in the weight room, it seems that in the past our men were not so devoted to the room work?

  39. al December 29, 2009 10:04 am

protector….i have been preaching that same thing.

i think we still have a shot at a wr from long beach poly and were in the hunt for a dlineman. although we may now have too many dline guys on the dock.

blinn cc was njcaa champ this year. we missed out on a lot of high end jc ballers some of whom could have helped in the defensive backfield.

we lost out on a navarro cc running back earlier this holiday season.

that’s how it goes……i still say that we need to get a couple of corners this year.

  40. A-House December 29, 2009 10:11 am

    al:

like tommui, what’s the scoops on the “local” football recruits?

we kow its the “dead period”, but i believe being more active during this period via phone calls, tweets, email will let the commits and undecided recruits know that the Warrior coaches want them in their program.

no face-2-face; just go 3rd person, 2 dimensional, abstract, 3-D, etc.

  41. vballfan1 December 29, 2009 10:13 am

    Question for Charlie.
Have you decided on a starting lineup? Is Jonas Umlauft going to hit on the right or left side?

  42. vballfan1 December 29, 2009 10:17 am

    How is recruiting coming along?
Do you think Shane Popelka and Shane Welch can get playing time as freshmen?

  43. A-House December 29, 2009 10:32 am

If ST cannot calculate the number of scholarships available, who is the next person in line with the “knows”?

Hope the receivers recruited 2 years ago can make a stronger contribution in their senior year – that will take the heat off the starters, allow the subs to tire the secondary, make receptions/TDs, show the defensive secondary a completely look, etc.

  44. warriorbacker December 29, 2009 10:33 am

Some coaches in the MPSF like John Speraw also coach boys club volleyball in the summer.
Do you plan on coaching boys club volleyball or getting involved with USA youth and junior national teams.

  45. warriorbacker December 29, 2009 10:39 am

Is Arik Metzger going to be able to play this season?

  46. al December 29, 2009 10:44 am

ahouse….not sure what is coming down the pike. it appears that we may only have 5-7 scholies left.

however, where the greyshirts, transfers, fit in is a question mark. our compliance dept. needs to step it up a notch.

we would have to get creative thereafter, if we are going to take in more recruits than the aforementioned. ie more greyshirt recruits.

if you ask me….we still need

    2-3 defensive backs
    1 running back
    1 mlb
1 big wr with 4.4 speed

we could always use an otackle or another colt brennan.

  47. al December 29, 2009 10:45 am

ahouse…it appears that jovonte taylor will be the best of that lot.

  48. Kekoa (iPhone) December 29, 2009 10:51 am

Thanks ST. Was just trying to negotiate a ‘peace’ settlement, but understand the underlying issues.

  50. wafan December 29, 2009 11:02 am

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  51. wafan December 29, 2009 11:23 am

    Bow-wow.

  52. al December 29, 2009 11:25 am

  53. Ralph December 29, 2009 11:30 am

Shauna is panicking! 15 minutes to the Tsai and Wai show and only Al, Vballfan1, A House and Warriorbacker posted questions, 3 minutes worth of air time, come on Tsaikos, get up! Do people really watch men volleyball?

  54. huh? December 29, 2009 11:32 am

Isn’t it amazing that one who puts down others
goes about taking offense to his own style of sarcasm?

Isn’t like “the pot calling the kettle black.”?

  55. Ralph December 29, 2009 11:33 am

I know a lot of tsaikos will be at Kum Chee Restaurant consuming a lot of kalbi, etc.starting at noon. Shauna, you can blame Koakane for arranging today’s lunch get together while the Tsai and Wai show is airing.

  56. Kaimuki Kid December 29, 2009 11:39 am

    Hi all,

It’s a little more than 2 days to a brand new year. Wouldn’t it be nice to start afresh and stop sniping at each other??? Pull in the claws guys…Can’t we all just get along???

  57. Kaimuki Kid December 29, 2009 11:42 am

    Hi Coach
What is your prognosis for the upcoming year? Are we coming along nicely at this point?

  58. hurt feelings December 29, 2009 11:43 am

ralphie – was this a BIO event?

  59. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 11:45 am

Progress does not happen without conflict.

Conflict = Reveals some sort of need
    Needs = demand
    Demand drives progress.

We don’t need violence.. but conflict can be good.

  60. huh? December 29, 2009 11:46 am

    Kaimuki Kid

Actually all was fine until Mr. Know-it-All started calling some of these folks poi-dogs.

Just when we were starting to like him, he gets all haimakamaka(sp?).

Perhaps it is the effects of the full moon that has his wolf pedigree up in a dander.

  62. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 12:00 pm

People with pedigree? What’s that? Special Papers? Toilet trained.. I don’t get it.

  63. chawan_cut December 29, 2009 12:03 pm

    Coach,
Are there any plans to try and bring back the “good ‘ol” days of crazy fans in the stands at men’s vball games? When it was general seating, there’d be lines around the arena waiting to get into games. Now with the reserved seating for season ticket holders, the loud and energetic young audience gets relegated to the upper levels where their enthusiasm fades with each higher row.
    Thanks!

  64. Ai-Yah December 29, 2009 12:03 pm

roy.. is it okay to call you roy? or you prefer royvic?

shoot, with all this humbug, I forget what I was going ask you

  65. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 12:03 pm

Ai-Yah.. you are free to join them
I’ve been to a couple.. enjoyed them immensely.

My wife and I combined can only eat one half portion of what the hard core Tsaikos do, though. I end up feeling like I need to get my stomach pumped so I can keep up! 😉

It’s all good fun.. good company.. and any blogger/reader is welcome to join in. Just bring an empty stomach.

  66. Ai-Yah December 29, 2009 12:09 pm

MIH – I would attend but it’s BIO, I don’t know when or where these secret meetings are.

  67. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 12:17 pm

Not secret at all.. they announce em all the time on this blog and I think on SteveM’s site.

Today’s is at Kum Chee Restaurant … they already started… but will probably be there for another hour or so.

  68. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 12:19 pm

    Ai-yah..

During the season.. one of the best fan tailgate parties you can go to is the Tsaiko’s tailgate, too. Get there early and you can usually find parking using the password for the day. Go to http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/
    for more information.

    again that’s…

    http://home.roadrunner.com/~smurashi/tsai-kos/

  69. SteveM December 29, 2009 12:29 pm

Ai-Yah — if you are serious about your post #70, please send me an email at: stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com with your name.

I do not know of all small gatherings but will relay your ernestness to the usual suspects and put you on any Tsai-ko event I might coordinate. Do you karaoke or cruise? 🙂

  70. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc December 29, 2009 12:32 pm

Where’s Kum Chee Restaurant? I know there must be half a dozen Kim Chee restaurants on O`ahu, but this is a new one for me.

Must have been a BIO since nothing was posted here or on SteveM’s webssite.

Also, there are two e-mail lists set up – one has everyone e-mail addresses who’s responded to requests for money/pledges etc., and/or wants to be kept informed about T-Gates and other open-2-all blog parties; the other one is a much smaller list which has been set up for BIO events. I don’t know who keeps the second list because I’m not on it.

According to someone who is on that list, folks who are on on it are requested to not refer to the events on the blog beforehand. As for afterwards, it’s up to each attendee – or invitee – to decide whether to talk about the event.

BTW – I asked two inter-related questions of Coach Wade.. And yes, I agree with RoyVic – in public, we should be referring to all coaches by their title – Coach Wade or Coach Charlie – even if we have a long-standing relationship with them..

I know a lot of elected officials and several judges well enough to call them by their first names in an informal environment, but I would never call them by anything but their title and last name in public – including a blog.

For those of you wondering what a paid furlough is, the decision to shut down the university system during the last two weeks of December was to reduce operational costs outside of salaries & fringes. Every penny counts. It certainly reduces some of the expenses individual employees wind up paying such as transportation costs, meals, etc.

The furloughs are why I cannot get any answers about a T-Fund until next week.

  71. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc December 29, 2009 12:36 pm

To repeat my #30: What’s with the “Your comment is awaiting moderation.” What does that mean? Who does the moderating? Can you see my #27 post? It’s visible on my computer with the above comment but can anyone else see it?.

  72. hurt feelings December 29, 2009 12:46 pm

w-doc – my question @ post 61 was specifically asked on your behalf (because after reading ralpie’s post re the cc, i know you were going to make an issue out of it).

    Thanks!

Why not send an e-mail to Jim Donovan, Carl Clapp, and Rick Sheriff making the same argument. I’m not sure that coaches have much of a say in the decision-making process, but I’m sure that they would love to have several thousand screaming fans under the age of 50 cheering on the team. Be sure to point out to them that filled – and cheaper – lower seats mean more money spent at the concession stands & perhaps even at the Rainbowtique.

DrDoc and I could not buy seats together in the lower part of the Stan Sheriff Center for any of the court sports except women’s basketball which is open seating. We wind up moving down to the lower level after a few minutes even though our current above-the-concourse seats are right in the middle if the overall attendance is kind of sparse. .

  75. Ronnie December 29, 2009 12:58 pm

  76. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc December 29, 2009 12:58 pm

Hurt Feelings – Thanks for thinking of me, but today is a major work day – started at 5 am and am just now taking a quick break before heading back work to wrap up end-of-year reports and other paperwork.

It’s funny that you raised the issue because most of the time I never get around to reading the blog until 10 pm or thereabout. By then, I assume that the Cattle Call would be over.

20 mph winds resulting in a wind-chill factor of about 15 degrees. Some say that’s great football weather, but I think otherwise. The UCLA players must be freezing out there!

Ralph, “Going Home” by Sissel Kyrkeebo was just plain “BEAUTIFUL” as I really appreciate you for allowing me to see this wonderful lady sing this deep farewell song as it really makes you feel her soprano voice of life after death.

You gentlemen are so KIND of your thoughts and words to my departed mom as I appreciate you GREATLY !

    ST,

missed you and missed the show, sorry. all is well, the love is flowing from Manoa, and that is a good sign. going through the hoops to make it a great 2010 for everyone.

at the UH basketball game last night, the opposition had some very ‘wild’ shoes….man they were bright! 🙂

    i, too, love pecan pie.

    maybe tomw.

  108. al December 29, 2009 4:34 pm

pecan pie with premium vanilla ice cream.

  109. I Love Pecan Pie December 29, 2009 4:41 pm

I wish you all luck as everyday lately almost pecan pie is not on the shelves. double dang…

btw, I agree with mih and pomai, putting a football player, healthy or otherwise,
into an electrical charged room is not someone
    UH would be interested in.

But in “coach” Leach’s defense, he probably did
not know about the danger of it and thought it was
a good idea—tho why take away something to sit on?

  110. huh? December 29, 2009 4:50 pm

  113. hurt feelings December 29, 2009 5:05 pm

uncle al – since your the chef-de-le-creme of the WB, i’m sure you could whip-up a scrumptious, earth-moving, mouth-watering tantalizing dish of pecan pie.

    what do you think?

    IF CAN, CAN!

  114. I Love Pecan Pie December 29, 2009 5:18 pm

You can tell it is dinner time…
OK, I googled a recipe for “easy” pecan pie:
    Easy Pecan Pie
    Ingredients –

    1 (9-inch) One-Crust Pie Shell
    2/3 cup Sugar
1/3 cup stick Margarine or Butter, melted
    1 cup Corn Syrup
    1/2 teaspoon Salt
    3 Large Eggs
1 cup Pecan Halves or broken pecans

    1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare pastry

    2. Beat sugar, margarine, corn syrup, salt and eggs in medium bowl with wire whisk or hand beater until well blended. Stir in pecans. Pour into pastry-lined pie plate.

    3. Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until center is set.

    4. Eat.

You can also google “fudge chocolate” pecan pie…

  115. RedZone December 29, 2009 5:38 pm

I once brought a pecan pie to a football game and a friend got really mad. He said he hated pecan pie and called it cockroach pie.

I was just trying to watch the replay of the Warrior Beat Show but it runs then freezes then runs then freezes. It looked like Charlie and the Princess were making funny faces everytime the vid froze. I gave up after a few minutes.

ST are they going to fix it?

  119. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 5:55 pm

#25 Wisconsin is pretty much shutting down #15 Miami. Just goes to show you how good Wisconsin’s Defense is. If #15 Miami can’t get more than 7 after three quarters and 13 minutes, it’s no wonder this year’s Warriors didn’t do any better, either.

  120. Pomai December 29, 2009 5:56 pm

Just got home from our CC, for those who didn’t make it, I will fill you in. The first 50% of the time was spent sampling the fine food, not much talking with one’s mouth full. The next 10% was talking about how bad the MBB team was and what Coach Mack has to do to keep his job, the remainder of the time was spent telling Ralph how to fix his computer, the final decision was that Ralph needs to brake open his piggy bank and buy a new one. Sorry there was no discussion of anyone on the blog.

  121. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 5:56 pm

Miami will probably get a TD now in the waning minute as Wisconsin pretty much has this sealed up.

  122. madeinhawaii December 29, 2009 5:59 pm

    Hmm… Onside kick.. and maybe…1:26 left… Miami now 14… Wisconsin 20

For anybody wondering about comments awaiting moderation: I know if you post a comment with three or more URLs or links, then your post will get flagged for moderation. It’s not personal or anything, just based on the content of the post.

Posts may also be flagged for moderation if there are terms that are considered “spam” topics. For example, the word “special-ist” gets flagged because it has a reference to a certain ED drug.

    al on # 149,

I remember trying the Rum Raisin at that White Mountain Creamery. Was that supposed to be how the old fashioned ice cream used to taste?
I kind of liked the flavors at Dave’s Ice Cream that was a few blocks away (but also is long gone now), esp. the lychee sherbet (they were always generous with the amount of fruit).

  157. Ralph December 29, 2009 9:46 pm

Na Wahine wins. 54-53. Congratulations to Kanekoa in hitting the winning shot with less that 2 sec.

  158. al December 29, 2009 9:51 pm

hurt feelings….not to hurt your feelings but the boss hasn’t attempted a banana cream pie since it is not one of the house favorites.

but, her blueberry creamcheese cake, dump cake, red velvet cake, rum cake, butter mochi, and an array of other scrumtious goodies are among the best on the island. perhaps that explains the exanding midsection from year to year.

  159. wafan December 29, 2009 9:56 pm

Some are really funny, presuming to lecture others on courtesy, expectations, and standards of behavior. Personally, I do not mind being a mutt. Particularly when considering the alternative of being a presumptuous know-it-all with a pedigree.

So, ralvic/rolvic/royvic, that is the extent of my discussion since to go any further would be truly discourteous to the sensibilities and time of others. As you stated earlier, feel free to discuss – and I mean that in the most condescending voice imaginable.

  160. wafan December 29, 2009 9:57 pm

    Nytol!

  161. Stephen Tsai December 29, 2009 10:03 pm

No, nobody at UH or work ever makes me take down posts.
I took down an exchange of posts today because I embarrassed a reader, and that wasn’t a cool thing to do.
I think the poster lacks tact and manners, and those flaws undermine some intelligent points (and posts).
I meet a lot of lurkers, from all walks — players, coaches, readers, Mainland residents, etc. — and most cite the readers whose posts are largely ignored because they just don’t care for their personalities. And I’m not talking a handful of lurkers. I’m talking a lot.
The particular poster is well meaning, and I want him to contribute. But when his posts are inducing scorn and, worse, avoidance, I shouldn’t be piling on. Love thy neighbor.
So I took it down as an olive branch. Then again, the gesture was interpreted another way.
    Hey, what can I say?
    I tried.

  162. jm2375 December 29, 2009 10:03 pm

A really challenging Wahine basketball game this evening – they pulled it off in the last two seconds. and won by one. As usual, there were maybe as many as 400 fans including Mista Mayore wearing a green feather lei.

Was working so intensely today I didn’t have time to get anything “real” to eat beyond eating some stale soup cracker packets. When we got to the Stan Sheriff Center, we bought two baked pretzels, popcorn, and peanuts. Finished the first two and will save the rest of the peanuts for tomorrow night’s game.

Jason: Mahalo for the flagged for moderation information, but I can’t find anything in it that might be naughty nor were there any URLs. And who does the moderating?

Chawan_Cut: Ran into Carl Clapp and summed up your comments about General Adminission seating for men’s volleyball. He says that there may be some test-the-theory nights provided that the corporate sponsors who get blocks of seats in exchange for doing so will be willing to let others sit in their seats.

Be sure to save your HI5 containers – we’re having another collection on Sunday, January 10.

I try to view the blog as a neighborhood bar.
There are regulars who try to have a good time .
    There are the occasional patrons.
There are some who sit by themselves at the end of the bar who argue about everything.
Some people you give the extra popcorn.
Some you send home in a cab.
But let’s be clear: I’m the bartender.

  165. Stephen Tsai December 29, 2009 10:09 pm

Anyway, this is pretty much the last time I’m going explain rules.
I don’t like to be the hall monitor. (Wow, I’m a bartender and a hall monitor.)
So from now on, if we take action, we take action. No more explaining.
Back to our regular programming …

OFF-SPORTS TOPICS – skip over if you’re not interested.

Still looking for referrals – first, where’s a great place to eat – five-star, price-no-object – here on O`ahu? The bill will be paid by a client, but he isn’t familiar with Honolulu’s quality restaurants, but then neither are we. I read a good review of a restauramt called Kai Market at the Sheraton Waikiki, but I haven’t run into anyone who’s dined there.

    Any recommendations?

    Got it! the word is

Think I might have found the offending word:

The other referral is for a computer speci-a-l-i-s-t – both hardware and software who can work with me to do some basic upgrades on my 2003 Dell desktop. It’s slow, cranky, and full of unwanted stuff – and that goes well beyond spam & viruses. I’m still using Eudora for e-mail and WordPerfect for word-processing so I need to have someone help me move into the 21st century with software as well.

Unfortunately, I’m not a learn technical stuff from a book sort of person. The only way I learn new things is by having someone talk to me and walk me through a new process.

Buying a new computer system is not possible for probably another year and a half – had planned to do so sometime next fall, but the date got pushed back at least six months. Unlike most folks around here, we don’t have any credit cards so putting a new system on plastic won’/cant work.

If you know of anyone who works as a tech consultant and can recommend this person, please send me his/her contact information to swood at hoku dot com.

CHANGE OF SUBJECT: Went to a meeting before the ball game to get a heads-up on what to expect at the upcoming legislative session.

Are you ready? The PowersThatBe are going to push for a bump in the General Excise Tax from 4% to 6% – wzxwpr on O`ahu where the rate would go from 4.6% to 6.6%

When I asked why not legalize gambling – even if it were just a lottery they said that the Hawai`i residents would never support legalized gambling.

And although the public might be ticked-off with a 50% increase in the GET, that would be an easier sell.

Let your legislators know which you prefer.

Ya know Tsai, a sports bar in the University area called the “Warrior Beat” would be a great idea. Al could come out of retirement and run it. Brilliant! The 5fs, karaoke, the best pupus ever, and occasional live acts like the Pride Serenaders. Bulla could bounce for ya. 😉

  183. Da Punchbowl Kid December 29, 2009 10:44 pm

    Doc-
I think the lottery idea is a great one. Maybe even join in with one of the big multi-state ones on the mainland. Casino gambling would be the final nail in the coffin, IMHO. If ya think real estate is expensive now, just imagine what it would be like if all the high rollers from around the world wanted a piece of this place?

We’re at the hotel in Houston, where the rooms are $199 a night but gas is only $2.60 a gallon.
Ferd and I just got back from Goode’s, the best BBQ restaurant in Houston — or so proclaimed by the Travel Channel. I’ve decided that DPK, Bulla, SteveM and I are opening up a BBQ place in Hawai‘i.
    But I digress.
We entered the lobby, where we were met by coaches Rich Miano, Dennis McKnight and Mel deLaura. They’re looking for a 24-Hour Fitness. They don’t have a car….

Yup– that was 5 months before rasu begasu re-appeared at Genji’s for the first Karaoke Call. We now know that pride. can handle the mikes and homey can be the bouncer on the karaoke side… 😐

The leg tackle focuses more on positioning so chances increase for optimal hits as well as muliple points of contact. Maybe in the future it’ll narrow it down even more in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize your arsenal for complete football domination to become a all-madden phenom and is without a doubt superior in that regard. The practice strengths are its effectiveness. If those sound compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
