Ahhh, fond memories. When Mrs. Boola was doing some post-doc work, we lived right across the street from Camp Randall.

There was a nearby college dive bar at the time, that the bruddas would have loved. Back in the day, and this is like the early 90s, on Wed, you could get a bucket of beer (a literal bucket, it contained like 120 ounces) for 5$ and then they had 20 cents hotdogs and tacos….plenty plenty drunk hungry undergrads at that place.

I remember eating sausages when I lived in Munich, Germany for 1-1/2 months in 1969-70. Plus German beer! Yum.

Germans make the best hotdogs and beer.

    Enjoy your stay in Wisconsin.

  9. kahuna September 25, 2015 11:15 am

Shouldn’t be that much of a adjustment for the boys. If I didn’t know they were in Madison, I would guess they were in Columbus, Ohio. Same kind of stadium with bleacher seats, same color and same background. Just like they were there two weeks ago.

  10. wow September 25, 2015 11:18 am

#7 – Kapiolani Bakery also had 20 cent hotdogs in the 80’s

  15. winning September 25, 2015 12:16 pm

To #7- They were really junk tho! Now for the foots, only way UH can win the game would be to “Walk on the Wild Side” from the get go, I mean “let it all hang out” like a popular song back in the day. If they get conservative our could have been ours DC will stuff it! Trust me! What would UH have to lose? Unless their mantra is to keep the score close as a moral victory or “keep the score close to have a chance to win it in the 4th quarter” as a long ago coach once said. PHOOEEY! Not going to happen. Lets try to get on top of them quick then hang on! Maybe then we might have a chance to win.

  16. SteveM September 25, 2015 1:00 pm

    Thanks for the pix, ST!
Felt envious at the indoor practice facility but realized Hawaii is too warm and Aloha stadium doesn’t have a roof anyway. Practicing in wind, rain, heat and humidity is a slight home advantage.

side window near McKinley HS long, long ago…

Have yet to see sauerkraut sold in Hawaii.

  21. Ipu Man September 25, 2015 1:16 pm

I think McKinley High School could solve some
of its football problems by offering “scholarships”
    to poor kids in…Samoa.
    🙂

    #18 Ipu Man,
The Wurst-Wagon food truck has sauerkraut.

Also if you get a Reuben at any deli should have the kraut…

  24. SteveM September 25, 2015 1:44 pm

Sad to hear about McKinley High school not being able to field a football team. As a McKinley grad, I remember our days in the ILH where we played Farrington, Kamehameha, Roosevelt, Punahou, Iolani, Kaimuki, St. Louis, and Kalani… and beat them all at least once in my 3 years there. McKinley and St. Louis had a rivalry for a poi pounder trophy each year.

Many games in the Termite Palace and when we graduated and attended UH, we kept watching there but with a new wrinkle…the UH games were in the evening. Cool.

  25. bowwar September 25, 2015 1:47 pm

I love brats, but that buggah ST got doesn’t look cooked…

Just roll the ball onto the field and let’s get it on…

    Go Warriors!

    on our tour is a gentleman from Lanai who travels to every away game, travels to Oahu for every home game { season ticket holder }

says it’s important to support the players especially at away games

and, I thought I was a booster!!! not even close.

    Wisky 42 – UH 14

    Boise 17-7

  35. Old School Dave September 25, 2015 3:12 pm

My grandfather attended McKinley High, WAY BACK WHEN. They beat St. Louis one year in football, resulting in the McKinley High Statue getting blue and red paint thrown on it, afterwards by Crusader students. Those were the days.

  36. SteveM September 25, 2015 3:33 pm

Old School Dave — in my days, I recall a lot of paint was exchanged between Roosevelt and Punahou on their game week. They were rivals on the same street (Nehoa) so to speak.

Hmmmm, Jason, who first started the Guess-the-Score also collected the high schools of the Tsai-kos at one time. He was a UH student at the time so his interest in school foot background was high.

  37. Andrew September 25, 2015 3:45 pm

took 17 hours but made it to Chicago. Onto Madison tomorrow morning. I hope I’m wrong since I came all this way but:

    UW: 35
    UH: 31

  39. willieboy September 25, 2015 3:53 pm

ST: how are we planning to treat our dinged up warriors if we are planning to stay up there till after the boise st game? do we have facilities available for us?

  40. Casual Observer September 25, 2015 4:16 pm

Warrior’s chances depends on the offense to keep possession and score often. It has to prove itself against top notch defenses, take what is given and move down the field. If they can score 36 pts, it should be a win. But more importantly, it will show that the offense has matured and can play at this level against better defenses.
The variable is the special teams. Defense is proven but they cannot be expected to hold Wisconsin to just 21 pts or less.

  41. H-Man September 25, 2015 4:51 pm

Boise 46-14 end of 3rd; starting true freshman QB Rypien. How do they keep doing this?

  42. leron September 25, 2015 5:27 pm

#37 it’s my understanding that the team is returning home after wisconsin…i think ST can confirm.

  43. Hugh Jones September 25, 2015 5:44 pm

Born in Madison, 2 degrees from UW-Madison, lived in Hawaii 27 years now. UH Fans will be treated well and with Aloha. Its quite a town, stadium and fans. The Badgers have brought as many as 10,000 fans for Badger games at Aloha Stadium.

  44. cappie the dog September 25, 2015 7:13 pm

    Base hit for Garcia today.

    .270

According to one website, the Cardinals will pick the ex-Bow over Pete Kozma for the last post-season roster spot.

I’m looking forward to a St Louis versus Toronto World Series.

  45. Causal Observer September 25, 2015 7:17 pm

UH won’t score 36 points against wisconsin. Stop it. They’ve only scored 36+ point four times in the last two years. And those were all against terrible cellar dweller teams like UNLV, colorado, or D-IAA teams like UC Davis.

Final score: Wisconsin 42 ,UH 6

  46. orioles4eva September 25, 2015 7:26 pm

    We will get run over.

  48. Tiki808 September 25, 2015 7:37 pm

Notre Dame wasn’t that good. Hawai’i has a chance. Virginia lost to Boise State.

    56-14 win MWC

  49. oneseason September 25, 2015 7:41 pm

If UH is 4th and short, I hope they go for it. They didn’t in the first series against OSU, and I can understand why. But now they know the defense is stout. Got to take chances on offense and let the chips fall … Let’s Go Bows!

  50. Tiki808 September 25, 2015 7:43 pm

Need better banana makers in the crunch. Hawai’i.

  51. Tiki808 September 25, 2015 9:15 pm

    Wow. It is showtime. Hawai’i.

  52. BigFan September 25, 2015 9:38 pm

#18, Ipu if you get the hot dogs at Sam’s Club or Costco, they will give you sauerkraut if you ask for it.

  53. Turfwar September 25, 2015 9:55 pm

McKinley still has a big enrollment but much of the student body is immigrants. Laotian, Filipino, Chinese, micronesian, etc. Few have been here for most of their youth and fewer have played any football or baseball. The basketball team does pretty good tho. Have relatives that just graduated from there.

  54. Maddog50 September 26, 2015 3:12 am

Headed to Madison in about an hour. Gonna meet up with former teamates Tim Fiegh and John Arnold. Gonna meet a group of Na Koa folks in Badgerville a tailgat area. Went downtown in Chicago for a gathering of UH Alum at the. Hyatt on the Magnificient Mile. Chatted for quite some time with the Chancellor RBV. Still grinding for every chance to win support for th program. GO WARRIORS!!!!!

  55. DaveLetterMan September 26, 2015 5:01 am

    Morning Tsaikos!
Old School and SteveM, my dad, a St. Louis alum, use to tell me that they would paint the Punahou School classroom doors red and yellow, and the Roosevelt dome blue and yellow. Both schools blamed each other. Urban legend? He was class of ’42.
    Go Warriors!
