Big plans

UH officials are working on a plan in which the Warrior football team will conduct a spring practice on the Big Island in March or April. This is part of the Warriors’ island-hopping tour. In 2009, the Warriors conducted a practice and autograph session on Maui; last year, the event was held on Kauai.

With the completion of the Super Bowl,  football season is officially over. At least, the playing part. Not so for the Warriors, who train afternoons at the Ching Athletic Complex and Cooke Field (formerly knows as grass practice field).

Yesterday, the quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, defensive backs and linebackers were on Ching field, running sprints and other drills, such as a series of long jumps.

Over at Cooke Field, the Warrior linemen (and a kicker)  ran sprints (backward and forward) and, even, hopped up a hill during drills that, including short water breaks, lasted about an hour.

Defensive back Steven Stepter will be assisting the team this spring. He took a medical retirement after suffering a third concussion last fall. He will remain on scholarship, although he will not count toward the Warriors’ 85-scholarship limit.

I guess all things do work out. In a random drawing for football gloves autographed by Kealoha Pilares and Greg Salas, the lovely Avis has selected . . . DPK!!!

Anybody remember the name of the coach that someone on this blog was pushing to get the UH job? He sounded good too. Was supposed to be an excellent recruiter and was young. Lost his job when the head coach was either fired or just cleaned house. Is he still on the list?

  11. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 7:54 am

    papajoe2:
Talking about Kim McCloud? Heard he’s one of the applicants.
Apparently the list is quite lengthy.

  12. gigi-hawaii February 8, 2011 7:55 am

Hey, DPK, congratulations! Hope you are feeling better.

  13. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 7:56 am

Someone who did not apply is Keith Bhonapha, a former UH defensive back and graduate assistant. He helped steer several Bay Area players to UH, like that slotback with the long hair … hmmm. Last I heard, that slotback was with a Save the Dolphins program.
Anyway, Bhonapha is the running backs coach at Boise State.

  14. madeinhawaii February 8, 2011 7:57 am

Morning Tsaikos everywhere… Congrats DPK! Hope you are feeling better! …

  15. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 7:59 am

By the way, grumble all you want about the lousy quality of the photos. It’s not easy shooting pictures of large, tired linemen who spit-spit-spit like a 1960s sprinkler.

Good morning Tsaikos and good job ST

  17. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:05 am

Quick observations: Defensive end Desmond Dean put on some weight. The defensive tackles — Vaughn Meatoga, Kaniela Tuipulotu, Geordon Hanohano, Haku Correa, etc. — are quite agile.
Offensive lineman Chauncy Winchester-Makainai sat out the drills because of an ailment/injury. He said he should be ready to go in a couple of days.
Calen Friel watched the workouts, but did not participate.

  18. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:05 am

Looking forward to seeing you guys on Maui on Saturday.

  26. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:26 am

So, now ESPN’s Chris Broussard is reporting that the Lakers would be willing to send Bynum to the Nuggets for Anthony.
Say, Anthony signs a max contract. Even if that contract was backloaded, and his 2011-2012 salary is a low of $20 million, the Lakers would have base salaries of more than $90 million for eight players. Now the NBA requires a roster of 13 paid players. So, let’s just add, say, $4 million for the five fill-out players. That makes it $95 million. Suppose the cap goes up to $60 million, that leaves, uh … aren’t they way over the cap?

  27. Slugger February 8, 2011 8:27 am

    ST ~ I think it’s Ben in the pic…

  28. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:27 am

  29. Hilo-Warrior February 8, 2011 8:27 am

Hey so because the BI is so much bigger than the other islands, will the team be doing 2 practices one in Hilo and one in Kona?

  30. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:28 am

    Whoops. Just checked. No volleyball.
Anyway, I’m hearing 7 p.m. for the Warrior Bowl, if UH sticks to that date.

  31. LizKauai m/ February 8, 2011 8:28 am

Ditto on Mr. Stepter. Good to stay a Warrior, better to Protect this House, er, brain!

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/20110208_Oceanic_to_launch_all-UH_channel.html

Oceanic Time Warner Cable is moving toward the creation of all-University of Hawaii channel on its statewide system, people involved said.

“The decision has been made that Oceanic will be launching a channel dedicated to all things University of Hawaii,” said Norman Santos, Oceanic vice president for operations, in an e-mail.”

    interesting.

  33. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:31 am

I’m pretty sure they’re going only to Hilo.
It’s tricky. One of the dates being looked at is the Saturday after the final day of classes before spring break. Maybe, that’s a good thing … for the fans. Not sure how many Mainland players want to sneak back home for spring break. Or how many seats will be available on Big Island flights.

  34. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 8:34 am

I think if there’s an all UH channel, you charge every household $5 per month, and you do away with pay-per-view.
This puts KFVE in a good position because it owns the rights to past games. The key would be to “rent’ the archives to Oceanic, not sell them. That provides income for a long time, as opposed to helping the second-quarter budget.

  35. jm2375 February 8, 2011 8:37 am

ST – there’s a baseball game that night vs LaTech.

  36. LizKauai m/ February 8, 2011 8:41 am

Hopefully UH will not rely only on Oceanic locally for TV coverage. The audience we need to serve is EVERYWHERE.
If there is to be a UH Channel, I suggest it be available on all providers and include national coverage.
It can be The Hawaii Channel in the GREATER sense of the term – and perhaps team with HVCB, include non-sports fillers like syndicated tv shows, movies and other things Hawaii.

Having a “local only” commitment on only one TV provider, while interesting, is too much like preaching to the choir, imho.

  37. Shoko February 8, 2011 8:42 am

ST. Sorry I stepped out for a few minutes. The guy I was thinking of was Tim Cross that BigIslandKurt was pushing for the job at UH. He was a Big 10 recruiter of the year and was let go when Minnesota hired a new coach. Also a top 25 recruiter in the nation. He is young and had Hawaii roommates while in college at UNC so supposedly understands about Hawaii. Did he apply for the job? He sounds good, but I trust Coach Mack in whoever he hires. The new coach must fit in with Mack’s coaching philosophy and be a “team” player with the other coaches.

  56. Slugger February 8, 2011 9:25 am

I like your idea about adding a nominal charge to Oceanic cable fees to get the UH channel. $ to UH from the proceeds would be great; wonder how that would compare to what UH makes from PPV?

How does DirectTV (satellite) service get local programming now? Can they use the same type of contract with Oceanic just for the UH channel? Makes Oceanic more moola…

  57. Slugger February 8, 2011 9:30 am

Hau’oli la hanau, Barbara (Mrs. Midnight)! We miss you two!

  58. madeinhawaii February 8, 2011 9:34 am

  61. Pomai February 8, 2011 9:45 am

ST from what I have been told by KFVE, UH owns the tv rights to the softball games, you would think it would be the same for all sports?

  62. Slugger February 8, 2011 9:50 am

I wonder how many people only have broadcast TV, though? There’s a whole population of the TV viewers who don’t have cable and would not be able to watch UH sports if it’s ONLY on cable (or satellite). 🙁

  63. al February 8, 2011 9:51 am

Good to see the boys hard at work. Hopefully i get to see that in person with my son when we’re there next weekend. Congrats dpk and glad to hear ur doin well.

  66. Garret February 8, 2011 10:39 am

    Liz,

Sadly, this all comes down to money. The whole reason why Oceanic is willing to pay a premium for its UH coverage is to be able to get customers to sign up with them instead of Dish and DirecTV. They can lose money on the UH TV deal and still come out ahead if that means they get extra subscribers.

Can Dish and DirecTV customers buy UH PPV football games? If it was just about increasing access to the games and making PPV money, Oceanic would happily sell PPV games to Dish/DirecTV.

If Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse get widespread distribution in Hawaii, Oceanic will shut them out of the UH channel to try to keep their subscribers. Oceanic does *not* care about letting viewers that subscribe to other services get to see their content.

  67. Pauoa Boy February 8, 2011 10:41 am

Cecil Doe looks to be athletic and got some hops fa sho… I could see this dude out-dueling little DB’s in the secondary by jumping over them and snatching footballs out the air…

  68. Garret February 8, 2011 10:41 am

$5 per subscriber for a UH TV channel when the Big 10 TV Network can only get $1 per subscriber for the 12 teams and 24-hour HD coverage they provide…it would be “nice” for UH to get that kind of money, but the numbers just don’t make sense.

The first thing that would happen is that tons of subscribers would complain to their legislators about their cable bill going up $5 per month and that would be reduced significantly. Oceanic *knows* that, so they would never even try to get that much for the channel.

  69. Garret February 8, 2011 10:42 am

Spring Practice in Hilo is a GREAT thing for UH to do. Getting the neighbor island fans to see the Warriors in person is a very positive thing for UH and for increasing the fan base…

    Congratulations to Chad Owens.

“I’m excited to continue to be an Argonaut,” Owens said in a statement released by the Argos.

“My pro career has seen a lot of ups and downs over the years. Last year in Toronto was a huge up and, as a pro, you look for those types of seasons. When looking at the whole situation, I realized that in coach Jim Barker I had a coach and GM who not only cared about me but also cared about my family. This contract helps take care of my family but more than that, I get to re-join a special group of players who I feel are my team in a city I feel is my home. This team has become my extended family and I’m honoured to be a part of this group who love me unconditionally. I’m glad this process is over so I can focus on what needs to be done to bring the Grey Cup to Toronto.”

Owens reportedly will make upward of $125,000 a season with Toronto.

  72. Garret February 8, 2011 10:45 am

The BIG complication with the Hawaii channel is that the MWC wants the mtn network distributed throughout Hawaii (they are already on DirecTV). One of the reasons why the MWC said that they invited UH is to increase the value of their TV deal. So, UH may not own the rights to any of their football games…which significantly drops the value of any TV rights UH/Oceanic can sell.

  73. Garret February 8, 2011 10:51 am

    ST,

The NBA has a soft salary cap and teams are able to go over the cap to retain their own players, plus they are given exceptions to the salary cap to increase their payroll every year. Any trade has to match salary cap numbers, so the Lakers will be moving the same amount of salaries (+/- 15%, adjusted for salary cap credits the Lakers have obtained from past trades)…so, their official salary cap number actually won’t change if the trade is made.

I actually put together the first comprehensive FAQ for the NBA salary cap and NBA GMs and agents corresponded to me to get me to explain the salary cap to them. I got busy (after getting married) and my friend Larry Coon took over the salary cap FAQ work and improved it to the point that he has a ESPN media credential right now and everybody (NBA teams, media members, agents, etc.) calls him to figure out the salary cap.

The NFL has a hard salary cap, though with so many loopholes and ways to move money around that teams can avoid cap constraints in the short term. Baseball has no salary cap and hockey has the strictest salary cap.

  75. papajoe2 February 8, 2011 10:53 am

I think Colt should go to the Canadian Football League too. He could prove himself there and then go to the NFL. Warren Moon did that when nobody wanted him in the NFL. Also, Greg Alexander too, if he has healed and is still interested in football.

Dennis McKnight is *not* a candidate for the UH coaching job…he just took a job in Edmonton with the CFL.

Edmonton Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed has rounded out his coaching staff with the hiring of Dennis McKnight, who will oversee the running backs.

McKnight, who spent the last two seasons as special teams coach with the Southern Methodist University Mustangs, has 12 years of coaching experience. Prior to joining the SMU staff, initially as an offensive line coach in 2008, McKnight served two stints with the University of Hawaii.

Then the next day there are four games scheduled starting at 1:00 PM, with UH playing two games first against UC Davis then Texas State, then Saturday they hold the seeded games starting at 10:00 AM.

It will be a great weekend of Softball so come on out to the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

  93. A-House February 8, 2011 11:48 am

    UH Channel:

UH should pull an “Oceanic” – the Disney Channel was like a “pay-per-view” in that it cost $5/month.

Oceanic asked the PUC permission to drop that program, make Disney available to all subscribers, and charge $1 per month. Back then, Oceanic had about 25,000 households who ordered Disney and income of $125,000. With the change, their monthly income increase to $410,000 – what a profit!!!!!! Testimony at the PUC hearing went to deaf commission ears as they felt $1/month was a steal and why worry that Oceanic would make a huge monthly profit of $285,000.

I believe starting small with only “in-state” transmission and, if successful, go nationwide within 3 – 5 years.

Enlightening story in the SA by McInnis and Lewis on Newlee taking his concerns over the Wahine’s physical play to the WAC supervisor of officials. Some very candid comments from Newlee and Takahara-Dias. On the play in question, from what I recall seeing, Keisha just made an aggressive play for the ball against a taller opponent and their arms got tangled and both went to the floor. It was a foul, but didn’t think it merited a flagrant, intentional call. Hope the involved parties have access to the video, which should vindicate Hawaii.

I have added a modified short-range UH sports schedule for basketball, volleyball, and softball, and baseball since many Tsai-kos attend the games. It only lists 2-3 weeks and NOT complete because it mostly lists those games played in Manoa and some tournaments on the mainland.

It is in the Tsai-ko Events Calendar (click on my name and scroll down).

  99. Kazz February 8, 2011 12:08 pm

    Guy In The Office,

The ONLY thing “enlightening” about that article is how much of a coward Newlee is.

He should admit he got out played in the second half, acted liked a macho jerk to an opposing female head coach, and move on.

Like many have said, just wait until he has to face Fresno State. Most of those girls look like and act like they did time in juvi.

  100. whitey February 8, 2011 12:11 pm

dpk, great to see you at home and congrats on your winning. YESSSSSHHH!!!!!!!!

For those interested, Drew Kell recently went through his first high school baseball practice – coach claims he is as impressive as Kolten Wong was as a freshman…difference being he’s already 4 inches taller.

So now the question, will he make it to college football?

  102. madeinhawaii February 8, 2011 12:23 pm

    kf2.0,

make it to college football? Or did you mean college ‘baseball’?

  103. Okole Maluna February 8, 2011 12:27 pm

Liz and Garret #66 brings out good points about Oceanic “thinking”-

But I though That’s why BYU left to set up their own channel.

I doubt Oceanic will share with any other carriers and MWC wants to share will every channel available for wider distribution. As DirecTV already carries MWC Channel.

As I see it now Oceanic PPV for UH Football is close to dead, but you still have Big West Conference games available for PPV.

  104. al February 8, 2011 12:30 pm

    okay i’ll bite…who’s drew kell?

  105. kf2.0 February 8, 2011 12:33 pm

Nope, the question is whether Drew will make it to college football. I have never seen a BIIF player this talented at this age – in my opinion he will be the best player on the island next season as a sophomore. There is no doubt he will be one of the top prospects in the state as a senior.

BUT, if what i’ve been hearing about his baseball talent is accurate, he might actually be a better baseball prospect – and I think his combination of height, speed, and skill will be very attractive to MLB scouts.

  106. A-House February 8, 2011 12:34 pm

    Guy in the Office:

your #96 – yep, exactly what we saw from Sec G. row 12 – both went for a loose ball and Kloke hit the floor hard – don’t recall Kanekoa grabbing hold of Kloke’s neck and swinging her to the floor as Newlee “saw”. delusions of ???????????

Yep, Newlee, your gals did a number on UH the first half and then got your butts kicked in the 2nd half – your players were just as or more aggressive that UH – some in our opinion was “dirty” – playing hard is one thing – playing dirty reflects on the Coach!!!!!!!!

  107. kf2.0 February 8, 2011 12:35 pm

For those with some time to kill, here is Drew’s highlight video from his freshman season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAKz4leBWNQ After the first few plays it really starts to heat up.

  108. A-House February 8, 2011 12:36 pm

    MIH #102:

maybe he can play both sports at UH – Kell is QB on his HS team on the Big Island.

al, al – you missed the U-tube spot on Kell from the Big Island – he may just turn out to be your “holy grail” – if so, you must wait 3 years because he is only a Freshman this year.

  109. A-House February 8, 2011 12:40 pm

Like the idea that UH is going to Hilo for a “spring” practice.

While it shoudl be open to all, maybe certain players can be “invited” to attend – gives HS player an idication that UH is interested and motivates the player to do well on and off the field; especially academics!!!!!!

And, Coaches don’t forget to take a long hard look at “outside island” players – never know who will be the next Colt B or Nasty Nate or Nate Jackson or Salas/Pilares!

  110. kf2.0 February 8, 2011 12:42 pm

To be honest, I think with how highly he will be recruited UH will have a very difficult time acquiring him. I think he’s headed to the Pac-10 or to a major BCS contender either as a QB, WR, or S.

But if he matures as a baseball player, that might be a more sound financial option if he gets taken reasonably high in the 2014 MLB draft.

I think if UH is going to have even a remote chance, they need to hard after him ASAP and make him know he is wanted from day one.

He turned down an offer from Punahou as an 8th grader, has set island records in middle school in the long jump, triple jump, 100m, and 200m, and is probably on his way to a 6’4 220 frame as a senior. He’s also a great kid with a 3.8 GPA.

  111. Stephen Tsai February 8, 2011 12:43 pm

I kind of heard that the Idaho-UH spat is a carryover between something that happened up there. Also, it doesn’t help that both coaches probably were competing for the same coaching job.

  112. OTTO February 8, 2011 12:44 pm

#96 – I checked the WAC Sports website, Coach Newlee was reprimanded by the WAC in March 2010 for violating the WAC Sportsmanship code of conduct for excessive critiscism of the refs at a postgame press conference (Fresno game). Also last night on a local sports radio show, a caller (play by play announcer for Wahine bball) recollects a previous incident between Newlee and UH players. Supposely he had to apologize. I couldn’t find a press release on the WAC site regarding that incident. So he has a history of complaining….

They also said after the recent UH incident, on his radio show, he bad mouth Keisha as a dirty player…. suppose to be on Youtube.

  113. kf2.0 February 8, 2011 12:46 pm

    Hype machine begins!

But yeah, he’s already about 6’1 170 and runs somewhere in the low 4.6 range, but is shockingly strong for his build (Bench around 200 and squat around 315 and just getting started). His brother walked on at Oregon State and is around 6’4 245, so it’s not a stretch to assume he’s headed for something similar.

  114. A-House February 8, 2011 12:51 pm

    al:

Drew Kell, for a 14 or 15 year old Freshman, he showed good skills passing, running, eluding tackles, and decent speed.

3 years of good guidance (academics, weight room, etc) and he could be a real “monster mash”, no pun intended, of a football and/or baseball player for UH.

It was BIK, I believe, who posted the U-tube.

  115. Dan-O February 8, 2011 12:53 pm

Well….I guess we can eliminate Dennis McKnight as the new special teams coach.

Just hired today as the running backs coach for the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

  116. kf2.0 February 8, 2011 1:08 pm

He’s also a very good basketball player and could contend for BIIF POY a couple years down the road.

We should see if Frank Gansz Jr. would be open to leaving UCLA to coach the special teams at the University of Hawaii. He’s at Duke’s Waikiki when ever he isn’t working anyway, he might as well live here.

I’ll bet that the SMU current head coach makes a play for Frank Jr., now that the special teams job at SMU is available.

  124. Kazz February 8, 2011 2:12 pm

Mahalo “OTTO” for that tidbit based on FACT.

Looks like Newlee has his own track record going for him. Good catch Idaho! Real good catch.

As for Keisha Kanekoa… she is like your typical Hawaii-born student athlete. Keeps her mouth shut and plays the game. Regardless of what some think of her style of play or whatever, no one can dispute that she is a great story about a local kid making good in representing her home state and school.

Maybe I’m biased, but in my “observations”, just look at how these other mainland programs hold themselves. Whenever there is some dispute with a game official, lots of attitude with eyes rolling and excessive complaining. Our players react the same from time to time, but NOT to the degree of these mainland programs.

Remember when UNC played the Wahine? Every foul drew attitude from the Lady Tarheels from every player that thought they were above reproach. I sit behind the bench and I am close enough to see reactions and every mainland player/coach that comes here thinks they are saints and when they get called on something, it’s the end of the world and they will cry to the powers that be because they do not believe a vacation destination should have any valid competitive D1 athletic program.

Regardless of where a Hawaii player is from. Whether it’s here or on the mainland, their attitudes mirrors what I mentioned to earlier in this post. Our players, regardless of place of origin, tend to just keep the attitudes in check and just play through the BS more times than not.

I don’t care who is offended by this, but HUMILITY is indeed a HAWAII thing and I think the culture teaches that over time. Even from our coaches that are not from here but have been here a while. They too “get it” and we do NOT see as much “drama” from any UH head coach or assistant coach as much as these mainland ones.

Us fans, we can trash-talk all we want and say the first thing that comes out of our mouth. That is part of being a fan. It’s not a fan’s “job” to be overly-critical of everything to try to sound like an unbiased TV color commentator.

The beauty of being a fan of sports is to allow your gut instinct and emotion all out. Let the coaches and players handle the “critical thinking”!

  125. Kazz February 8, 2011 2:15 pm

Newlee may have been in Hawaii for a few seasons under a respected individual like Vince Goo, but it’s obvious the fool didn’t learn anything about humility or respect.

  126. Okole Maluna February 8, 2011 2:18 pm

“Newlee held an animated, finger-pointing conversation with UH coach Dana Takahara-Dias while shaking hands following the Vandals’ 72-60 loss to the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday night.” and “plans to talk to the Western Athletic Conference supervisor of officials at length about a series of fouls involving the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team.”

Newlee is just upset he lost the game and the UH coaching position to Dana.

Way to go Dana… Shows Newlee who’s the better coach…

As I see it, It was a very hard fought game going after the ball. Don’t be a cry baby Newlee your players are not complaining.

  127. haka February 8, 2011 2:33 pm

I don’t think Newbaby ever shook hands.

  128. Kazz February 8, 2011 2:50 pm

#25 Rachele Kloke never complained after she almost had her knee twisted around like a twizzler from that collision. She went back in the game 5 minutes later and played her game.

Good thing Kloke had class otherwise if she had the attitude of her head coach, she would have gone after Kanekoa to retaliate for the PHANTOM “intentional” foul.

Newlee should talk to some of his players who were undercutting Arbuckle when she goes up in the air for rebounds. One Idaho player used her butt to drive Briana as she was up in the air and she landed out of bounds. I can’t believe a foul wasn’t called.

I also notice that Utah St. men’s like to use their lower body to bump UH players when they go up for a shot.

Someone commented that Newlee teaches his players to “torpedo” the opposing team when they are going up for boards.

Well… like I said in #124, you don’t see our coaches or players huffing and puffing about it.

Although at this point I’d like to see Allie Patterson DDT someone soon…

  139. RedZone February 8, 2011 3:18 pm

Why is the Kloke play an intentional foul when the play when Kamilah got hit on the top of her head when she went up for a layup wasn”t? Is it because a head looks like a basketball?

  140. Kazz February 8, 2011 3:19 pm

Dang… would have been nice to see Katie Wilson in the mix. Especially with Fresno State coming to town soon.

It’s gonna get pretty dirty from their end of the court and we need to stand our ground, play our game, and match up physically for 40 minutes.

  141. RedZone February 8, 2011 3:20 pm

For the same reason a WAC referee thought it was proper to “coach” the LaTech player attempting to inbound the ball against UH by reminding her she can go back and fourth to find an open spot…

  143. Kazz February 8, 2011 3:22 pm

    RedZone,

Dunno. I should visit McInnis’ blog and ask. Wilson had a cast on her arm at the basketball ohana thing before the season and ever since then nothing.

She looks to be in the best shape of her UH career and seems to get around fine as she is there for every home game dressed in her warm-up gear but no uniform.

Hopefully this will be a redshirt year and we can have two more with her.

  144. Old Diver February 8, 2011 3:22 pm

Undercutting a player going up for a rebound or a layup is the most dangerous move in basketball which can result in a broken neck. Ejection is a fair penalty for such a move.

regarding the idaho coach, someone (not me) uploaded the 2nd half of the game onto youtube here.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PAj3mAtvCQ

the foul is at about the 5min mark and the finger waving is at the end. the uploader put links in his info section below the video to the exact moments so you don’t have to watch all 30 mins. but i think he/she uploaded the whole 2nd half to see the momentum shift and the calls/no calls by the refs.

  190. Curt February 8, 2011 11:59 pm

I saw the clip too. It’s not even an intentional foul. Both players were going after the loose ball.

  191. homey ℛ February 9, 2011 12:22 am

  195. wafan February 9, 2011 3:54 am

Thanks to whomever for the wbb clip.

Dana looks stunned by his actions/words at the end.

    Bachi to him.

  196. Ariel February 9, 2011 4:12 am

Nice information, refreshing page style, maintain the good work

  197. Kekoa February 9, 2011 5:22 am

Wafan ~ Now you know why I was ready to deliver some serious head slaps! Any observation of the game tape from the most discriminating officials, would dispell any complaints about Keisha’s actions.

Wait ’till we see this Bozo again…Grrr!

  198. homey ℞ February 9, 2011 5:25 am

    Last! Good morning Hawaii.

  199. Kekoa February 9, 2011 5:37 am

Couldn’t help feeling bad for coach Dana as she walked away from this jerk. She had that stun gun look that seemed to say, whatta hell was all dat! If I were the camera man, I would’ve dropped my camera, and den dropped him!

  200. RainbowCliff February 9, 2011 5:47 am

    Good morning Tsaiko Nation !

Saw the clip and really didn’t see any dirty play by the Hawaii player. Loose
ball with both players going after it. Coach of Idaho has no complaints what
he should be complaining about that his players are being out worked and
hustled after loose balls and the wahines are just being physical on about
their business of deserving a hard fought victory. As far as his finger pointing
to Coach Dana she handle his “child tantrum” well. Newlee will have to heal his
wounds of being “out played and out coached” by the wahine team. Put his
ego to the side and except that his team got BEAT. Case Close !

  201. RainbowCliff February 9, 2011 6:15 am

Alright Tsaiko Nation I have ONE last Superbowl shirt for the BIG guys !

5xxxxxl that is all white and green with Superbowl Packer logo on the front
and Lombardi trophy, NFL and 45 roman numeral silk screen to the side.

CLASSY look all the way and I want A BIG guy on this blog to have it FREE !

All you have to do is answer this Hawaii sport trivia question. Rainbow Warrior
television and radio announcer. Started in 1973 doing play by play for UH basketball,
football and Hawaii Islanders. By way of Philadelphia where he produced, directed,
wrote and narrated NFL documentaries for national TV. KGMB was his flag ship station
as his voice and quirky smile was known all over the Hawaii chain islands. Who is he ?

The first one to the correct answer wins the shirt. Remember it is a 5xxxxxl, so if you
can’t wear it please let those BIG guys who can answer the trivia quiz !

    Mahalo for the SPORTSMANSHIP !

  202. d1島 February 9, 2011 6:28 am

    Great Morning All!

Mahalo, Rainbow Cliff for contributing so much to the fun level of the blog.

    Have a terrific day erryboddy!

    HiHo…

  203. RainbowCliff February 9, 2011 7:01 am

d1: Complete HONOR and PLEASURE !

All in all ELEVEN shirts went out to you good folks of Tsaiko Nation.

I was able with my GREAT shirt guy Cedric Washington provide the opportunity.

It all started with a notion then took off when more ALOHA kept coming. This
is the LAST one and I wanted the “BIG FELLAS” to get in on the action. Just
LOVE spreading the ALOHA around !

Am off this morning for my tennis and will get back later on to hopefully find
me a BIG BRUDDAH name who got the correct answer to post #201. No worries
Cedric and I got some NBA All Star shirts in the work and they should look in
the mortal words of Billy Crystal “Simply Marvelous” !

Look forward in giving them away to you good folks of Tsaiko Nation !

Have a WONDERFUL morning all !

In just neighborhoods in which are excessive salary there are consignment outlets along with thrift stores where a lot of people today go to re-sell trendy creator handbags and fine garments. Though you’d assume persons would grasp in to these kind of things and not take all of them to a consignment shop, quite a few men and women just wear things the moment or occasions . Furthermore persons re-locate, get divorced etc in addition to may well merely wish a unique start and possibly not to bring remembrances which usually handbags and also gear can re-evoke psychologically. Appear at the minute hand stores in these kinds of spots and you will definitely find many concealed gemstones..Coach Outlet Store

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Together with the whole thing that appears to be building throughout this specific subject material, many of your points of view are generally fairly radical. Even so, I appologize, but I can not give credence to your entire idea, all be it refreshing none the less. It looks to us that your commentary are actually not entirely validated and in actuality you are generally yourself not really thoroughly convinced of the assertion. In any case I did appreciate reading through it.

The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

My favorite part of sleep apnea is the mask. I try to make my voice sound like Darth Vader for my wife when we go to bed. She says its good that I find this situation humorous.

Once I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove me from that service? Thanks!

The next time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I do know it was my choice to read, however I really thought youd have one thing interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about one thing that you can repair in case you werent too busy in search of attention.
