  8. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 7:15 am

Is this scenario too far-fetched to imagine?

If Rolo plays his cards right, could he become the next UH head coach when Mack retires???

Everyone have fun and be safe!

  37. al April 9, 2011 9:11 am

mctruck…carrying over from the previous post.

china has a lot of exceptional players. from a draw of 1.3 billion, there are a number of great athletes there and basketball is a rising sport for them.

right now, they do not “release those athletes” to go elsewhere and pursue a foreign education. the goal is to position ourselves to do such. it could also help build bridges and a potential destination point for tourism in the future. it also puts the university of hawaii out there.

the asian tour is also a great thing for the team in the sense of building relationships amongst players and coaches.

there are more positives than negatives.

  38. BG April 9, 2011 9:15 am

What an exciting day! Sorry I’m not there to meet the Big Island Tsaikos…would have loved to meet kawika49…next time. kawika, you’ll enjoy talking to my pahtna, Kekoa!

  42. BG April 9, 2011 9:36 am

If there’s any Tsaiko at the scrimmage today who’s thinking of going to the Vegas game and needs a place to stay, please contact me. Betty and I will be cruzin’ and won’t be using our timeshare just off the strip near the Hilton Flamingo. It’s a beautiful 2-bedroom, 2 bath with all the amenities, over 1,000 sf with fireplace and washer/dryer. It’s gated with security and runs its own shuttle bus service around the strip and even to downtown. If interested, grab ahold of Kekoa and ask for my phone number.

  43. BG April 9, 2011 9:39 am

    Hauoli Lahanau Dennis!

Thanks for being on-board ST! Now you made me hungry again!

Actually my twin had conventional braces at 16. Only two of my 8 brothers and sisters had orthodonture

I just have one bottom guy that is pushing a little too much

    Thanks for all the wishes!

Does everyone remember where you were in Tiger’s record run at Augusta on ’97?

I was downing beers and oysters at the Acme Oyster Bar in New Orleans during Jazz Fest in the Quarter!

  51. SteveM April 9, 2011 9:50 am

    RE: #40

Sumo Moco. Good idea. So you gonna share?

What flashed through my mind when I read it– I know a place next Saturday night that could easily be persuaded to make a 6 scoop rice, two 1/2 lb burgers, onion gravy, and 8 egg loco moco. Name it the “Rasu Begasu Special” and even throw in a diet coke. Hmmm… :razz”

  52. d1shima April 9, 2011 9:50 am

    Great Morning All!

🙂 🙂 All of you Big Island folks at the scrimmage today, look for Kekoa and Big Island Kurt to get a map to the post scrimmage pa’ina at my brother’s place. 🙂 🙂

He has a great set up for parties and plenty of lanai roof to keep folks dry in case of rain. Even if you don’t know anybody, no shame, come on down, this is your chance to meet and greet the Big Island Tsaikos. They gonna have some great food, great people and great fun!

    Have a great day!

  60. Da Punchbowl Kid April 9, 2011 10:01 am

    Happy Birthday, Dennis Halloran!

  61. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 10:04 am

    Dennis,

    You have my sympathy!

I had braces between 6th grade and 9th grade. Ow! Couldn’t chew spaghetti after an appointment with the orthodontist.

You’re lucky if you don’t need to extract 4 (FOUR) bicuspids, like I did.

  62. βρεω808 April 9, 2011 10:05 am

    RE: #63

brew — you expect a 3rd half pounder to fit over only 6 scoops of rice? Gonna need more rice and serve it in a chafing dish. It’s all about presentation… add some parsely snips for color and a bowl of Mac salad. 😆

  69. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 10:26 am

Happy birthday to Dennis Halloran & twin bro!

Ate at Acme Oyster House during the 2005 Jazz Fest. Shared a space at the oyster bar with former host of the PBS Victory Garden program, Roger Swain, and his wife Elisabeth (deceased). He advised me to drink hard liquor when eating raw oysters to kill any harmful bacteria. Sounded like a good idea… great reason to have a gin tonic.

    GO *.Bows today and tonight!

    Go Tiger!

  86. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 11:15 am

What? WHAT? I can’t hear. I’m sitting next to the woman who uses the horn to signal the start of each practice segment.

    Her warning? That’s the siren.

Next time, talk to my right ear.

  87. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 11:16 am

Got to meet all the folks.

BIK even gave a big wave.

These might be the nicest people on earth.

  88. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 11:17 am

    About the announcer, Chris Hart.

As we were boarding the plane, he announces: Does anybody know how to turn off my iPhone?

  89. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 11:19 am

    ST,

please ask BIK which TV show he acts in as a single guy (last nite’s blog).

also, is he a “handsome prince” he said he is?

    lol

  90. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 11:21 am

    Gigi:

I’m sure he could salt your popcorn.

  91. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 11:22 am

    Liz,

    you snore, too?

  93. Kekoa April 9, 2011 11:35 am

Chris Hart from ESPN is the wacked out announcer. CoachMack has really connected wit today.

JD addressing the crowd now. Just letting them know the team will be back in the future.

    Whew! What a turnout!

  94. BG April 9, 2011 11:41 am

Hmmm…Kazz, NMSU softball just beat Fresno 9-2 in first half of double-header.

  95. BG April 9, 2011 11:42 am

  98. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 11:49 am

    I think she was right.

Just came back…delivered the Poke, met some Tsiko’s have some pics, need site to upload.

  103. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 12:16 pm

Only TD, so far, was a 44-yard scoring pass from David Graves to Miah Ostrowski.

  104. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 12:17 pm

Darryl McBride has three sacks so far

  105. kawika49 April 9, 2011 12:18 pm

Gigi- If, you’re buying by the pound BIK is a winner.

  106. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 12:18 pm

It was the first-team O vs. the second-team D to start.

  107. Stephen Tsai April 9, 2011 12:18 pm

Dee Maggitt and Jordan Monico have made interceptions.

  108. LizKauai (macbook) April 9, 2011 12:22 pm

BG- with that much room, I would feel guilty if there weren’t a pile of Tsai-kos camping out in it!

Yeah, gigi- had to have a sleep study last week. The bad news- sleep apnea. The worse news- Kaiser doesn’t cover “external appliances”. If I wanna do something about it, I gotta pay.

  109. LizKauai (macbook) April 9, 2011 12:24 pm

    Thanks for the updates, ST!

Is there a good crowd to see all this excitement?

  110. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 12:27 pm

    ST,

wot? No TD pass from Moniz?

    was he intercepted?

  111. kawika49 April 9, 2011 12:28 pm

Yes..Good (approx 500+) turnout. By the way how many batteries for the so called appliances?

  112. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 12:28 pm

    Liz,

    too bad.

I think SteveM underwent the same test with same diagnosis.

  113. Slugger April 9, 2011 12:34 pm

Darryl McBride is the player I was trying to remember who impressed me with his speed. Go, Darryl! Watching him since he got here last year. Observant.

Glad that people in Hilo can watch the team practice.

  114. Slugger April 9, 2011 12:35 pm

    Observant. = Darryl’s very observant.

  115. kawika49 April 9, 2011 12:35 pm

  123. LizKauai -iPad April 9, 2011 12:54 pm

The Masters is looking like Jr. Golf. Pretty exciting young generation of golfers!

  124. kawika49 April 9, 2011 12:54 pm

Hey TS, give me a verdict on my POKE! when you can.

  125. SteveM April 9, 2011 12:54 pm

    RE: #108 & 112

My version of the HMSA plan didn’t cover too so I just did without. Say, where is Peaches nowadays? 😕

Good memory, gigi. Almost as good as Brew’s. 😆

kawika49 — when you post your pix, I’d like to cockroach a few for my Tsai-ko scrapbook/cattle call pages. Be sure to caption them… 🙂

ST — please keep the observations coming!

  126. jm2375 April 9, 2011 12:56 pm

    Howzit Tsaikos!!

Hope the new BI Tsaiko chapter is doing well.

For those of you on Oahu, come out for Warrior Volleyball Senior Night!!! Let’s honor the three seniors in the style that only UH does.

Oh yeah, plus see some great volleyball!!

(And see Stretch converse with da Trojans. Methinks he’s saved his best for last. 😆 )

    GO WARRIORS!!!

    GO BOWS!!

    GO WAHINE!!

  127. d1shima April 9, 2011 12:57 pm

    One TD, three sacks.

    Slugger,

Again I say, more important to know who Darryl McBride is going around! And why?!?!

  128. kawika49 April 9, 2011 12:58 pm

    125 WILCO

  129. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 12:58 pm

    SteveM, Liz,

Didn’t ST’s bro, Mike, also report here that he had sleep apnea?

  130. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 1:06 pm

    Tiger -5

    Leader -12

  131. Slugger April 9, 2011 1:07 pm

    kawika49,

Glad you are getting to watch the team practice. Can you hear the coaches? I learn a little by listening to the coaches.

    Poke! Uuuummmmm…

Wahine Softball double-header at 4 pm! Come on out and support the girls.

  132. madeinhawaii April 9, 2011 1:07 pm

Mouthpiece does’t work if you suffer from Central Sleep Apnea… (where you simply stop breathing for spell until your body screams for air)

  133. Slugger April 9, 2011 1:09 pm

    d1shima,

I’ll bet Coach Shaw is checking that out. Except for Sila, don’t we have new guys on the OLine?

  134. d1shima April 9, 2011 1:12 pm

    Slugger,

I hope Coach Shaw is not only now “checking that out”! 😯

…come Sept. can’t tell the other teams, “Hey, go easy…we get 4 new guys.”

  135. d1shima April 9, 2011 1:15 pm

…ackchally, it’s Rolo, Mouse, BSmith AND Shaw who have to be concerned.

QB1 can certainly, by this point, be counted on to account for “his man” but the Receivers and RB’s gotta know what to do as well.

  136. Michigan Warrior April 9, 2011 1:16 pm

Mahalo everyone, for the updates! Sounds real good out there! Great pics too, ST! Man… dis is some exciting stuff, yeah?

  137. d1shima April 9, 2011 1:16 pm

Time to load up and head out.

    GO BASEBOWS!

    GO VOLLEYBOWS!

  138. Michigan Warrior April 9, 2011 1:23 pm

It’s good that our defense is giving our O-Line a good workout with different looks. Will help these young guys to be better prepared for summer, and then when the season rolls along. Better now, than against different teams!

  139. Michigan Warrior April 9, 2011 1:27 pm

Wait… First team O vs. second team D, and all we got is 1 TD… while they got multiple sacks and INT’s?

“Can you hear me now?” takes on yet another meaning.

… And I’m out the door for the next few hours…

  140. Da Punchbowl Kid April 9, 2011 1:47 pm

    no more updates?

  141. Slugger April 9, 2011 1:50 pm

    MW,

Don’t worry. It’s a practice. Lot more going on in addition to trying to get the ball over the goal line. Actually, they run plays for different downs & yardage, so they’re not always at the goal line. Hope they got to see the kickers. I’m sure they practiced.

    K, lots to do before softball… Latahs…

  142. Slugger April 9, 2011 1:53 pm

Thanks for the updates, ST. Any fuud pics?

    Safe travels home.

  143. LizKauai -iPad April 9, 2011 2:02 pm

mih- thanks.. I went 22 secs between breaths at the longest. I am looking at alts to the CPAP which makes me feel like i’m drowning…

  144. Manoa Mist April 9, 2011 2:12 pm

Appreciate the Hilo reports Mr. Tsai. Gotta agree that neighbor island folks = salt of the earth. Tell Mack and JD that KS has a similar football stadium on Maui, too. Just sayin’.

  145. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 2:16 pm

    SteveM,

why don’t you give Kawika your email addy so he can send you his pics. He doesn’t have a web site of his own to post them.

  146. madeinhawaii April 9, 2011 2:20 pm

    lizK…

A lot of the aparatus for apnea is available on Amazon or Ebay.. gotta shop between the two and get the best deals including shipping costs.

  147. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 2:20 pm

    Liz,

I read that sleeping on your side helps to relieve apnea.

    Also, losing weight helps.

  148. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 2:23 pm

    Manoa Mist,

I think UH has played in the stadium on Maui in the recent past.

  149. madeinhawaii April 9, 2011 2:30 pm

    gigi

I believe that sleeping on one’s side or stomach only helps with obstructive apnea, it does not help with central sleep apnea. Apparently I have the first and not the latter and sleeping on my side does help, though it is rare that I will get more than a 3-4 hour continuous block of sleep. Which in turn does not help my blood pressure… which affects the severity of my apnea…

  150. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 2:37 pm

Hubby has trouble sleeping thru the night also. He does not snore every night, only occasionally. His problem is waking up to go to the bathroom several times a night.

Always feels exhausted and needs to take frequent naps during the day.

Doc (urologist) told him to lose 40 lbs.

  151. madeinhawaii April 9, 2011 2:42 pm

If you have sleep apnea it is probably a good idea to take some kind of blood thinner like aspirin or plavix or anti-coagulation/blood clot dissolving supplement like Natto, nattokinase (from natto), and Lumbrokinase (from earthworms). Not advisable to use both aspirin and natto together as that can increase the risk of hemorrhagic strokes. Natto powder is available in the health section of Marukai and is supposed to be 10x more active. 100 grams sells for $20… 2 grams = 1 serving, or 40 cents a serving.

  152. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 2:42 pm

It’s too bad that obesity is the curse of the 21st century. Too much money to spend on junk food.

Want to lose 50 lbs myself.

  153. 88bows April 9, 2011 2:43 pm

how did the 1st team O do.

    bright, pollard, stuz, miah, sterling?

  154. Da Punchbowl Kid April 9, 2011 2:58 pm

    154-

    I second that! 🙂

  155. madeinhawaii April 9, 2011 3:01 pm

RE: the interceptions. How were they made? Were the receivers running the right route? Did the defense simply anticipate and out grab the receiver for the ball? Or were they deflected passes?

  156. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 3:05 pm

ST is probably having such a good time he forgot he has a blog!

  157. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 3:05 pm

    Ditto Kekoa, our other correspondent.

  158. Da Punchbowl Kid April 9, 2011 3:24 pm

I have an up to the minute report from Tsaiko-Gate Big Island!

Colonel Kekoa reports that twenty plus Big Island Tsaikos have arrived at Anuenue O’ Panaewa with more expected soon. Smoked meats, smoked sausage, all manner of fish and poke on the menu, with 2 grills currently blazing away.

Spoke to the nephew and he says everyone’s having a good time and the weather is great. This concludes my only report on these matters. Look for further updates and photos here and on SteveM’s blog.

I’m going to cry myself to sleep and take a nap! 😆

  159. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:33 pm

Gigi, ur #153….I’m wit u on dat; unfortunately…..and may I say, u and I same age……when we get this age(maybe I shud say..”I”) get this age….the only thing I’m losing is muscle mass…da opu is still growing. bwaaaaahaha!!

  162. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:39 pm

  166. Curt April 9, 2011 3:43 pm

ST and the Tsai-kos are having so much fun they forgot to post updates those of us not on the Big Island. We’ll have to read about it in the Sunday morning paper. Have fun fellow Tsai-kos; wished we were there.

  167. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:44 pm

I keep hiding anywhere so the put-on-da-pounds demon cannot find me….but don’t look like working??

My sister recommended dis bypass deal…but at my age????…I don’t tink so….back to trying to hide.

  168. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 3:45 pm

be like me. wear a baggy muumuu…

  169. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:46 pm

Like many Tsaiko’s…I think I’ve lived a pretty good/happy life; so basically, one-day-at-atime.

  170. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:47 pm

I wear baggy….but no mo da muumu yeat….may bed sheets???

  171. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 3:47 pm

I just realized ST has to report on the VB match tonight. So he’s probably in HNL as we speak.

  172. BG April 9, 2011 3:48 pm

Kazz, if you’re around somewhere, I just noticed that Fresno lost 2 today to NMSU. THAT should make your weekend!

  173. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:48 pm

Seems like my body exploded ever since I started taking meds. for my type2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

  174. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:49 pm

ST, must be feeding his face.

  175. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:50 pm

still keeeping my fingers crossed…htere aren’t any serious injuries today.

  176. Curt April 9, 2011 3:51 pm

    al,

Yesterday #231-233: Thanks for the recruiting updates. I googled “namar alcindor” again today and only two items came up. Unfortunately, the search turned up the two comments we made to each other on the Warrior Beat. Funny.

  177. mctruck April 9, 2011 3:52 pm

well, nite all. time for moemoe.

  178. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:00 pm

    Curt,

Al is pulling your leg!!! lol

  179. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:00 pm

    G’nite, Mctruck. Pleasant dreams!

  180. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:02 pm

it is so humid today I turned on the a/c.

75 F right now in the hale.

  181. Curt April 9, 2011 4:08 pm

    gigi,

You’re right that al is pulling my leg. He’s gonna get it. And he betta stop doing it or else Koa-mahu gonna want in on da action. :o)

  182. al April 9, 2011 4:08 pm

curt, curt, curt…i always tell you to look for the subliminal message. i told look for it in the name. all you could see was alcindor…ferdinand lewis alcindor a.k.a. kareem abdul-jabbar.

i even said it is here….namar alcindor.

    so now look closely.

    the name “namar”

take it apart, curt. “na” “mar”

take it phonetically and play with it.

  183. al April 9, 2011 4:10 pm

btw, curt. koa-mahu is slipping and gave away a huge clue recently.

so, how many tsaikos know your boss’ first name?

    hmmmmm.

we are close to the reveal.

this guy even flatly denied he was km straight to my face.

    mwahahahaha.

    hahahahaha…..the shadow knows.

  184. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:14 pm

    Al,

lots of people know his wife’s name, because I mentioned it recently.

  185. 702WarriorFan April 9, 2011 4:15 pm

    gigi

    yr #151

Tell hubby to ask his GP to give him a saliva adrenal gland test for his low energy exhaustion etc. Just might help him to find out why other than not getting enough sleep due to his frequent trips during the night to the lu may be causing his issues.

  186. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:18 pm

    702,

wot? gotta test his saliva now?

  187. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:20 pm

sorry that this blog is turning into a medical blog instead of a football blog.

    Derek, are you there?

    cannot help, gotta laugh.

  188. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:21 pm

    Al,

    is it A-Joe = koa-mahu?

  189. Curt April 9, 2011 4:24 pm

    al,

I know u luv toying with me…like a cat playing with a mouse. Despite that, I’ll still try to decipher your subway message. I have two thoughts on it:

    1. “na mar” means “no more” alcindor or there no recruit by that name.

    2. If I reverse namar, I get the word raman which I equate to ramen. I therefore conclude that our next blue chip recruit is an Alcindor who can execute a fantabulous sky hook and likes to eat ramen noodles.

    Did I get it? 🙂

  190. Curt April 9, 2011 4:28 pm

    gigi,

I am Koa-mahu…not! Just kidding. I think it’s best to not reveal his true identity on da blog. He should remain mysterious and anonymous. Just my opinion.

  191. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 4:32 pm

    Curt,

Didn’t ST rule that there is to be just one nickname per person?

I would really like to know who is posing as “hubby.”

  192. Curt April 9, 2011 4:53 pm

    gigi,

ST did put out that rule recently as apparently one blogger was abusing it and causing trouble. Generally, it’s not a good idea to use multiple identities as it confuses other bloggers. But for Koa-mahu, I find it to be acceptable.

As for “hubby,” I thought it was really yo hubby. I thought it was a funny line but then again, I wasn’t on the receiving end of that one.

  193. SteveM April 9, 2011 4:53 pm

    RE: #189

gigi — I don’t know, but I can vouch that A-Joe and (J)James is not the original Koa Mahu… which eliminated them from the usual suspect list. Of course, ST and the techs would know.

I submit that Koa Mahu and Maryann(e) should be grandfathered in, since they were originals without ill will. As for “hubby”, well, hubby is a common name… 🙄

  194. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:00 pm

    OK, guys, I hear ya!

Just to let you know, my husband NEVER comments on the Warrior Beat. He thinks it is ludicrous that Tsaikos are so eager to be the first commenter, and does not want to be a part of that.

I also know an English professor who told me the same thing.

Of course, it really doesn’t bother me at all…

  195. al April 9, 2011 5:08 pm

    bing, bing, bing!

    bing, bing, bing!

and the winner is…whoa curt you hit it on the nose. yes, it was namar as is in no mor.

but, the other stuff is what a lil birdie did mention.

  196. d1shima (Aria'd) April 9, 2011 5:09 pm

BaseBows hang on to win, 3-2.

Watching termite league game now between games. Good fun watching these keiki.

    Heading over to Stanley latah.

    Latah.

  197. al April 9, 2011 5:13 pm

hmmmm. sounds like hubby needs to take several tests.

those are signs of sleep apnea. interrupted sleep, need to nap because of the poor sleep at night. snoring is not the absolute symptom of apnea. it is the stopping of breathing at night that is the killer. enlarged heart, and a whole bunch of things. sleep depravation.

constant need to urinate could be a sidebar to everything. worst case scenarios, diabetes, prostate cancer, and so forth.

best to go see the doc and tell em straight what all the problems and symptoms are.

  198. al April 9, 2011 5:14 pm

    200

  199. al April 9, 2011 5:14 pm

    200.

  200. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:15 pm

    Nope, you are all wrong.

    It is Low-T.

  201. al April 9, 2011 5:15 pm

    bah…humbug.

some people just don’t know how to have fun.

  202. al April 9, 2011 5:17 pm

there are shots for those things. might spice up your life. heh, heh,….

but, he should at least take an apnea test.

  203. Curt April 9, 2011 5:24 pm

    al,

So what about this 7’3″ issue? Is there such prospective recruit with that height?

  204. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:25 pm

He has a very stressful job. Comes home exhausted.

  205. Curt April 9, 2011 5:26 pm

    P.S. al: I noticed u got post #200…again. I wan’t paying attention.

  206. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:26 pm

    Curt,

I’ll believe it when I see him.

How often have we had recruits who exceeded 7 feet?

  207. Curt April 9, 2011 5:29 pm

Good I finally figured al’s message. Da guy’s going to give me a headache soon with those subway messages.

    gigi,

I don’t think we ever got one over 7′. Though we have had a number of them at 7′ including this past season. The best one might have been Tommy Barker back in the 70s.

  210. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:35 pm

    SteveM,

Well, ST is a silly guy, and the 2 guys I mentioned dislike the silliness. They both told me they don’t want to waste time on something that lacks substance… especially when they are busy.

I told them the substance sometimes comes later, but they lack the patience to read further.

    Too bad.

  211. gigi-hawaii April 9, 2011 5:39 pm

    SteveM,

    Congrats to Wahine!

8-1 over Nevada in game 1

  214. BG April 9, 2011 6:08 pm

    gg

What I think is really ironic is when adults think that what they do at work is so important that they can pass judgment on what’s “important”. Try asking people who are at death’s door and looking back on their lives what they think is important. Invariably they will say “friends and family”…two of the pillars of this blog. OK, enough of the philosophy and back to “tiptoeing through the tulips”.

Hoorah for Na Wahine for taking two games from Nevada today!!!

  215. albinohawaiian808 April 9, 2011 6:16 pm

wait wait wait..3 sacks and Darryl McBride did all that against the 1st team O and he’s on 2nd D. I don’t know whether to be really excited for our defense or really concerned about our O-line. For anybody that knows whether it being Tsai or anyone who was there who was the tackling leader today, who stood out???? Who was the top running back, which receivers/quarterback did good?????

  216. hawaiiclassof66 April 9, 2011 7:38 pm

  219. bigislandkurt April 9, 2011 8:29 pm

The Verdict is in — Kawika49 is the blog’s resident poke-ologist. Ahi with fresh cracked pepper was a winna.

Was an awesome day today. Kekoa gave the updates. Only thing we differ on is that the folks where I was sitting did not enjoy the remarks by Chris on the cordless mic. Some of his attempts at being funny fell short and was borderline offensive to some HIlo folks. Funny thing is when Coach Mack grabbed the mic and said that he “personally selected Chris for the day.” 🙂

The scrimmage was fun. McBride is a beast –speed kills. He name was being called all day today. Terrence Bell, Allan Sampson, Darius Bright, and Corey Paclabar — yes! Corey Paclabar all showed flashes of brilliance. I like the way 85 plays — plenty heart. Aside from that, I agree with the rest — we are a work in progress. I must say that the youngsters on the line are monsters. Big boys. Chauncey looks real good. Jordan Loefler was stoked to be home. I really hope Clint Daniel gets a shot this year. Sterling Jackson is as advertised. Didn’t get to see much of Iosefa.

Defense got some speed. McBride is AD — all day. Monico had some good moments in there too. Overall, the defense looked good and fast.

Good moments afterward with the Ohana in Panaewa. What a day. I’m beat —–as in WArrior Beat. Blessings all, it was nice having the warriors here today.

Heh.. so much for “HGEA members working for you”

  221. Kekoa April 9, 2011 9:16 pm

BIK has my vote for MVP today. It’s no wonder A-Joe calls him his best friend for life!

Hats off to kawika49 for not only preparing a most excellent batch of poke, but for the trials and trubulation he endured to bring it in from a very angry ocean. Mahalo plenty my 82nd Airborne comrade.

DPK…what more can I say about your ohana! Plus, next time the Warriors play Hilo, I’ve got reservations to stay in their *La Casita*

For some odd reason, they all got a big laugh over your Blog handle, DPK. Your brother is concerned that your being a Tsaiko could be a very real mental

    problem, and you need help.

Got to get some rest. I’ll post my views of the scrimmage in the morning.

    G’nite!

I’m glad he heard more accurate observations on the ‘wacky’ comments by Chris .

    Good effort by the VolleyBows.

    Good Luck in the playoffs.

Nice day on the diamonds for UHAD! 🙂

  223. hilobilly April 9, 2011 9:55 pm

A great day, very nice weather, + finally got to match the faces w/ the blog handles. DPK, we all missed you, but your nephew Shon-Shon cannot understand why anybody WOULD miss you (‘…he’s ‘ohana, so I have to tolerate my uncle’). I tried to send some photos to ST’s email, but came back 3X as undeliverable, probably too large. Anyway, now we’re all thinking about coming down for the BYU game. Kekoa was just excellent talking story about the ‘old days’ at KSB & also as a Tsaiko booster, even though he would not reveal to us who Koa-Mahu is (he has some suspicions!). Good food, good beverages, good fellowship, even though BHF2 had to leave early (very colorful language re: a case he’s working on). Mahalo, DPK, for arranging the location, your brother & ‘ohana were just awesome, now I gotta build me a swing for my patio! And mahalo nui loa, BIK, for being the lead on the get-together….you sure look different w/o the dreads! Take care all, & I MUA WARRIORS!

    Kekoa, BIK and Hilobilly –

Glad everything went well today at the scrimmage and the pa’ina. Thanks for the scouting reports. Looking forward to the blog host’s recap tomorrow.

    Kekoa,

I knew that a couple of old war horses like you and my brother would get along famously. Despite what he and my nephew say, I am NOT nor have I EVER been Koa Mahu. He/she is wayyyy prettier and more popular than I’ll ever be. 😉 (Definitely not referring to my brother, BTW!)

    Bill,

An honor to have you meet some more of the ‘ohana. Take care of Israel at KS-BI. FYI – For $5, my brother will build your very own backyard swing!

    BIK,

Thanks for taking charge in God’s country and rallyin’ the local Tsaikos. I hope to meet you next time I’m there.

Glad everyone had a good time. Thanks to my nephew Shon-Shon for bein’ such a good guy and same to my bro for hosting. You guys are the bestest mostest of the time! 😆

  233. Unkanesson April 9, 2011 10:49 pm

    Aloha Tsaiko Nation!

Just got home to Waimea after a GREAT day in Hilo. I met up with BIK and Kawika49 at the top of the bleachers under the Tsaiko sign. I agree with the reports from those two and Kekoa, whom I met after the scrimmage. I would add that the kickers looked very good — 5 for 6 (by my count) on field goals in the 35-45 yard range (3 different kickers). I got there just a bit too late to see Dunnachie, but someone told me afterward he was booming them with great accuracy prior to the drills.

Guys who made impressive plays in the scrimmage: Darius Bright, Daryl McBride, Sterling Jackson, Allen Sampson (blazing speed with the ball in-hand), Miah O., Corey Paclebar. From where we sat, was hard to spot individual highlight plays in the trenches.

Joined the good folks at Panaewa for the aha ‘aina. Met BHF2, DPK’s ‘ohana and a bunch of others. The mea ‘ai was ono loa, including “pasture pork” provided by BHF2 and cooked to perfection by BIK, and Kawika49’s poke was indeed awesome. The conversation was wide ranging and entertaining. Mahalo nui to all for a great day!

SteveM — I took some pictures during the scrimmage. I can email them to you when I sort out the good ones. What size/resolution you like?

  234. Unkanesson April 9, 2011 10:58 pm

Hilobilly — Enjoyed meeting and talking story with you! (Sorry forgot your blog handle earlier). Will be keeping the BYU game in mind as the time grows closer.

How did the Foul Ball Giveaway go at the Softball stadium? Mahalo to all of you who support Na Wahine.

Good to hear that y’all had a good time at the Hilo practice & pa’ina. Looking forward to more pictures & da report.

  239. SteveM April 9, 2011 11:19 pm

    Re: #234

Unkanesson — thanks! My gmail account can take most size/resolutions. Usually 1024×768 @ 72 dpi for snapshots, but largest possible for group shots (in case I have to crop and expand). But ANY SIZE is OK — caption and blog name ID would be helpful since I have not met anyone yet except Bighilofan2.

    stevem.hnl (at) gmail.com

  240. LizKauai (macbook) April 9, 2011 11:47 pm

Unkanesson- I suggest image size of 800 Pixels on the long side and 98 dpi for better web resolution…

    jes sayin 😆

Mahalo to the host Tsai-kos- wish I coulda been there too!

  241. SteveM April 10, 2011 12:31 am

My gmail email account usually accepts multiple high resolution (hence size) photos without protesting.

While blogs may have final posted size constraints, my Tsai-ko web site are true (albeit plain) web pages. As such, I do not have size constraints except for good taste. I am able to manipulate final posted size and resolution. I prefer the slightly larger raw sizes so that I am able to crop and expand without loss of clarity (trading off image size for resolution)–which is not true going in the opposite direction. A lot of people photos, especially involving Tsaikettes, often require some discrete cropping.

If you do not fully comprehend what I said above… NO WORRY… I accept and appreciate any size photo my email account can handle. But if you have an 8+ megapixel camera, then the 2nd lowest setting will be fine. 😆

SteveM – Sorry to disappoint you, but all my shots were taken of football players in action, not Tsaikos. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to bring the camera in to the Panaewa gathering. Didn’t see your request for Tsaiko photos until I got home. Sorry! Maybe some others took some with their phone cameras (I’m using an SLR, and I do understand your comments about resolution etc.).

I’ll have some action shots for you tomorrow (Sunday). Can’t keep my eyelids open any longer. zzzzzzzzzzzz

  248. Kekoa April 10, 2011 2:53 am

Unkanesson ~ Thank you sir for the engaging conversation. I’m glad that you were able to get the quality photo shots on the field. The connections made with your fellow big island neighbors will only grow stronger from now on.

Hilo Billy ~ Such a laid back afternoon! Having access to the field enabled you to get much closer to the action. Those photos will be admired by ALL the Tsai-ko Villagers who tune in to SteveM’s site.

Amazing how the flood of memories from KS Kapalama came on like ‘Action Jackson’ busting thru the line yesterday. Thanks for reminding me of being a raw recruit in Kamehameha’s Khaki Army. Those truly were the days! Looking forward to swapping stories with you again my friend.

Hilo Warrior ~ Mahalo for coming to the gathering. Again, putting faces to the blog names is key to the unification and extension of the Tsai-ko ohana. I hope you and your family enjoyed the experience as much as I did.

Hilo Chris ~ Glad to see that you were able to connect with the coaching staff. Sorry that you were unable to join us after. We were looking forward to meeting your future Warrior recruits.

Kawika49 ~ Again I must acknowledge an ‘old’ Hawaiian’s skill at preparing dead fish! It was so ono we couldn’t stop talking about it!

I must take this opportunity to remind you all to keep the momentum going by organizing your own Cattle Calls. When you do, please post photos to share the event. We all would like to hear first hand accounts of your 5 F’s…6 counting braddah kawika49’s fishing skill.

Ok…back to bed. Full day of sight-seeing ahead before returning to the ceded lands. Oh…try wait, I WUZ on da ceded lands all day yes-ta-day!

PS ~ Anybody going down to Kakaaku park for Da Great Lunchwagon Competiton?

Almost 10am here in Marshall, Texas……good morning Tsaiko’s.

Wuz just thinking about one of my favorite pro-players..long retired and a Hall of Fame,(Franco Harris, 6’2″/230lbs.) I still marvel at how he was like a bull in a china shop running over defenders. Wow!, I realized that he is now,(61 y.o.). how time flies.

On another note….as a UH fan; acknowledgement and kudos/big mahalo’s to the venders and Hawaiian Air for contributing services to advance UH’s athletic department-bottom line.

One can see how important it is…ohana lives.

“Instead of subbing, we want to go from four-man fronts to three-man fronts on the move,” defensive coordinator Dave Aranda said. “That way we don’t have to sub, and teams can’t no-huddle us. We have our people already on the field.”

    http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/20110410_Ostrowski_comes_up_big.html

This will help us in making a stop, as opposed to worrying about who is subbing in/out.

    Great article today, ST!

    Way to go, Miah!

The Wahine softball continues to have fabulous pitching, but the hitting is still in decline. Now, there is only one player hitting above .300; the bench is collectively hitting .087; and .253 is the team batting average. There is one ray of sunshine. Shannon Lum has been hitting the ball hard, albeit for mostly outs, but did get a hit last night. Hope she continues to make good contact; we need a productive DP. As I said before, great pitching can get you far in college softball, but the hitting must be timely. In the last three games, the hitting has been timely with Sarah Robinson’s two-run homer and Kliebenstein’s grand slam as examples. With WAC leaders Boise State and New Mexico State coming in a couple of weeks, I am still optimistic about a WAC regular season crown for the Bows.

“I’ve been pretty productive in the NFL, and if it wasn’t for Skyline High School, that would have been impossible,” said Bess, who has 155 receptions in the past two seasons. “I want to do anything I can to raise money for the OAL, so these kids can have productive extracurricular activities.”

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  302. Rosetta stone languages April 25, 2011 6:36 am

Zune and iPod: Most persons compare the Zune for the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surpr isingly small and light it is, I contemplate it to be a rather exceptional hybrid that combines qualities of each the Touch as well as the Nano. It really is extremely colorful and lovely OLED display screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, however the player itself feels quite somewhat smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as very much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while getting just a hair thicker.

I’ve to say that I agree together with the sentiments about having AOL as quantity one. The comments posted along side it sum it up nicely, that it does next to nothing to strengthen the model, but only adds confusion.Out of the top rebrands inside the l ist, I would put SyFy on the prime. In the beginning I hated the title, because I thought they did it ??just because,??? when in reality that they had to alter their identify due to being unable to legally use Sci-fi.??? Now fairly than coming up with a full new title that nobody would know- and quite possibly lose quite a bit of your already built in SciFi??? brand- they caught with the aged identify using a bit of word play. I can still call SyFy Sci-fi when it arrives up, and that can make me joyful.
