Back to the future

The Warriors have drawn praise for receiving early verbal commitments from Billy Ray Stutzmann, Corey Nielsen and Kimo Makaula.
But nearly forgotten is that the first member of the 2009 class actually signed a letter of intent in February 2006.
Linebacker Waylon Lolotai is set to join the Warriors next season. He signed with UH in 2006, then went on a church mission. His grandfather Al Lolotai is acknowledged as the NFL’s first player of Samoan ancestry. His father Liloi is an ‘Iolani graduate who played at Colorado.
Lolotai is a member of a class that produced only a handful of starters — Gerard Lewis, Myron Newberry, Jake Patek, David Veikunke and C.J. Hawthorne — all of whom were transfers. Malcolm Lane and Greg Salas are expected to be the starting wideouts this season. Several others are expected to be key contributors.
After signing, Po‘okela Ahmad, Kenny Estes, Kiran Kepo‘o, Clayton Laurel and Alasi Toilolo grayshirted.
Afa Bridenstine, Lucious Henderson and Peyton Ma‘o never enrolled at UH.
Chris Camacho and Geoff Hayth quit in training camp, with Hayth leaving on the second day.
Then there was some tragedy. Kepo‘o was hospitalized after it was believed he was a victim of a hit-and-run.
And Mitch Farney, a popular player, died while playing basketball in January.
Here’s the originally announced class of 2006 (Lewis, who had a previous letter of intent annulled was not listed):

Name (Pos, Ht, Wt, Exp, Hometown/Last School)
Po`okela Ahmad (LB, 6-2, 205, HS, Kapolei, Oahu/Kapolei HS)

If a player signs, then goes on a two year mission, is the school obligated to honor the scholarship offer?

    Go Warriors!

  8. Pauoa Boy July 26, 2008 7:38 am

Umm…I no realleh like a QB based on looks, I no swing that way like some homey guy in hea…but Brady is better than Favre skill wise…

Get this one QB who plays in D.C. in one place they call HogTown that is pretty mean, he’s probably my favorite QB in the NFL…

  9. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER July 26, 2008 7:38 am

Right after Florida game. Praying for a standby seat (unless I find a cheap ticket soon) at 2:30 AM on Sept 2

  12. ラスベガス July 26, 2008 7:46 am

    LizKauai,
Is it 0230est or 0230hst or maybe even 0230 pst?
If it’s 0230est that would be 2330pst and only 2030hst, unless you ment 0230hst which would make it 0530pst and 0830est and just for kicks, 0730cst, but then if you meant 0230pst, that would be lunch time in London and Thursday in Pusan,Korea.

  13. ラスベガス July 26, 2008 7:48 am

    Pauoa Boy,
Missed my chance earlier, safe deployment and a quick turnaround back home.

  14. PIAA DS July 26, 2008 7:49 am

gigi, i have to agree on your previous post, Brady is way cuter that Favre.

I spent yesterday running thru airports trying to make connections. crazy delays everywhere, not sure why, but ST looks like you make it back.

One thing I need to mention. I scanned the posts from yesterday re: SSmith. All I can say is dont speculate as to why no release went to UH and lets just put it this way, many are placing blame where blame doesnt belong.

Some asked if SSmith would have to sit out two years if he transferred to another Pac10 school – as a general rule pertaining to any FB transfer student within the same D1 conference, answer is no if he has a release, just one year.

Normally schools wont give releases within the same conference or a program that is on their schedule in the next couple years, thus the 2 year sit out rule (or 1 year at JC then back and eligible in any conference). If an athlete transfered to a difference conference w/out a release, yes he would have to walk on/sit out one year and w/out scholie but could get it next year.

  15. Pauoa Boy July 26, 2008 7:50 am

Looks like a pretty decent recruiting class. This year will tell how some pan out, giving more playing time. Sad about Mitch Farney, you just never know when it’s your time…

    ラスベガス:
Yep, a player becomes a free agent once he goes on a mission.
But there are some ties — deep ties — between the Lolotai family and a UH, and Waylon Lolotai is a solid commit.
And, yes, he’s related to Mana Lolotai.

  40. Stephen Tsai July 26, 2008 8:25 am

There also is a very good player on a mission expected to head to UH eventually.

GARRETt: Mahalo for the KHNL post on yesterday’s bid story. Intended to do the same earlier this morning but sort of slept in.

    Momotaro, A-House & Others:

Below is the information from the DCCA website http://hawaii.gov/dcca/areas/rico/licensedcontractor about different types of contractors and about Sports Turf Hawai`i & Applied Surfacing Technology.

Still have more research to do as to the differences between the numbers which follow the letters – e.g., C5 or C68FF or C27 which is what Hamocon used on his Murakami bid last year; however, that will have to wait until Monday.

As for legal action, it could indeed happen. Nevertheless, David Hafner, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Services/Office of Facilities and Grounds, is absolutely committed – as are his bosses – to moving this project through as quickly as possible. He says that it will take approximately one week for all the paperwork to be finalized.

Barring unforseen Acts of God or some sort of successful injunctive action on the part of Sadowski, the field could be finished in time for the last three games of the season.

Again, here is information about how to get involved: The Contractors License Board next meets on Friday, August 22; however, the agenda, date, time, and location will not be posted until the previous week. NOTE: The middle two items rarely change so interested parties could look at the Minutes of previous meeting.

If anyone is interested in attending this meeting and wants to speak up, then please contact the DCCA Contractors office at 586-2700 for information about how to take part in the Public Input part of the agenda.

    TYPES OF LICENSES:

General Engineering Contractor (type “A” contractor) is a contractor with specialized engineering knowledge and skill. An engineering contractor will handle projects such as land-leveling, excavating, ranching, sewers and paving.

General Building Contractor (type “B” contractor) is a contractor whose principal contracting business is building structures. General contractors handle projects such as houses and room additions.

Specialty Contractor (type “C” contractor) performs construction work requiring special skills such as electrical work, drywall, landscaping, flooring or roofing.

Jason Campbell was 15 of 22 for 122 yards and a touchdown (a 10-yard pass to tight end Todd Yoder during red zone work). He also led the only legit scoring drive and capped it with a 2-yard scamper. Todd Collins was 8-for-13 for 52 yards and threw the only interception (cornerback Cedrick Holt). Colt Brennan was 4-for-7 for 22 yards and Derek Divine was 2 of 6 for 14 yards.

university of california at berkeley like the other upper echelon of the state of california’s pubic school system has very high standards especially out of state students. throw in ucla, uc-irvine, et al.

the university of southern california in contrast is a private school. therefore, standards are different. still, typically the standards at usc are very high. whether they “slide” students in because they are nfl material cannot be discerned.

    go figgah.

Hi LizKauai! My girls are 2 yrs old & 2 months old. They are such a blast but man do they take up all of my time. My 2 yr old has been throwing some mean tantrums since her sister was born. Jealousy or the terrible-two’s? I say a combination of both.
BTW thanks for all the Colt updates. My 2 yrs old saw him on the news last night & she started screaming “Touchdown!!”. Too funny!

Vanessa, have you checked out Esme’s Hawaii Moms blog yet? She has a great mom community there.

    http://hawaiimoms.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=MOMS

My first two kids were 18 mos apart – girl and boy. (skip 19 years) My last two are boys 23 mos apart. I can relate!

All the phases will pass… “enjoy” them

  90. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 26, 2008 12:07 pm

The “interesting” reference above was that it took your e-mail about 17 hours to go from your computer to mine. Assuming that you live somewhere in Honolulu, you could have walked it over to me faster.than that. Twice in the past seven years, I’ve walked from Kailua to Ala Moana Park in just over eight hours to win a bet.

curveball, yeah. I been doin “Aunty Liz” on some Redskins blogs to try to get people to think of him as the NEXT great QB… give him time to learn the system (ALL of the QB’s have to learn the system as Zorn is introducing the WCO) and earn the respect of his teammates.
Colt should be able to concentrate better w/o the distraction of being mobbed by fans wherever he goes.
It must have really worn him down last year… the gracious superstar that he is… 😆

    PIAA Doris:

Thank you for your excellent analysis at the #14 posting. It is interesting the transfer rules that are passed throughout the history of the NCAA. Of course, the institution itself has their own set of “rules” too.

I can understand why some outstanding athletes get caught up in the rules governing transfers. Basically, it just take years away. And you only get four to participate.

Like I said a while ago, I wish back in the day, I had a Doris Sullivan to counsel and assist me in using college athletics to pay for a college degree.

Was wondering what happened to Waylon Lolotai, is he and Mana related somehow?

PB, actually the two Lolotai’s come from a very athletic family. Waylon’s dad Tiloi and Mana’s dad Taunu’uu are brothers. Tiloi, as ST mentioned, was an all-state defesive tackle for Iolani and Colorado from 1971 to 1978. He and Brian Cabral were seniors together at Colorado that ended with an Orange bowl loss to the hands of Ohio State on Jan. 1st of 1978. Taunu’u was an all-state QB and WR at Pac-5 in 1975 and 1976. Waylon and Mana’s grandmother, Drew and Dane Uperesa’s grandmother were sisters. Drew and Dane Uperesa’s dad Kevin played for Cal and the L.A. Rams. Their Uncle Keith played for BYU, the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos. Now the grandmothers had another sister who had a son Jerry Scanlan who was an offensive guard with Washington Redskins, he was a rookie guard opposite Russ Grimm before he hurt his neck and had to give up football.

So hopefully Waylon, Mana, and Drew, are apples that don’t fall too far from the tree.

  117. 99club July 26, 2008 1:22 pm

    Gigi-

Florida must be one of the 5 PPV games offered in the UH season ticket holders PPV package since there are 6 road games, and the Boise St. game has already been announced as one of the ESPN games. Click on my name for UH’s 5-game PPV offer. Wow! That means some lucky Hawaii fans then have the chance to pay twice for the Florida game (ESPN Gameplan and PPV). Such a deal.

  128. 99club July 26, 2008 1:56 pm

    gigi-
That’s not a bad deal. I’d gladly pay it if offered. Some day there’ll be “on demand” for whatever you want to watch. OK, here’s where Rich gently reminds me why that’ll never happen due to contract A vs contract B, etc. 🙂

Okay. Back from the sight-seeing at the South Center Mall. Dang! The new addition is a lot larger than 40,000 sq. ft.!!! Think of attaching Pearlridge Mall with parking structures to what used to be the Northwe(s)t’s largest shopping mall. Dang! On top of that they threw in multiplex AMC theatre on the new third floor. Heck, the second floor is brand new, too. Up until the opening today the mall was a single story complex.

It is going to be a shopper’s fantasy! And, parking will be horrific during the holidays. Geez, those parking structures will not be anywhere large enough. I think I will stay away from that place for a long bit.

#49: Re. Berkeley, I believe Chancellor Tien in the early 90’s emphasized the importance of having a top notch athletic program and was instrumental in getting Russell White and Jason Kidd admitted into the school. Berkeley, though, is still very picky when admitting athletes whose raw academic scores might fall short in comparison to the regular pool of applicants.

Thanks for the notice. But, I will not be able to make that one — have to get started on the work at home. Otherwise I will not hear the end of it. But, if I do a good showing at the beginning I will be able to “slack” a bit more later on.

Please, though give me a call! Koakane and SteveM have my cell number. I think SteveM has my local (Hawai’i) number, too. I definitely will not have any internet access while at home.

I know I will go through blog withdrawals.

The August 16 KC is already on my calendar. I just need to find Young Street and then find the business. I am definitely looking forward to that event! I do not sing, though, because I do not want to damage anyone’s hearing. As I understand, bleeding from the ears is a bad thing. HA!

  154. Curt July 26, 2008 4:51 pm

About the photo of the soccer team above, I gave about a dozen of the photos to Jim Donovan at the blog bash. I was hoping he could locate any of the players/coaches and give it to them.

When I was attending UH about 100 years ago (ha-ha), someone gave it to me to sell to the soccer players. I don’t remember much about it now…getting too old. 🙂

I was going over my stash of UH sports photos for the blog bash when I came across these photos. So if you know anyone in the photo and how to get ahold of them, please let ST or Jeannie Lee know. Thanks.

Gigi: You’re right that it’s a 70’s photo. I attended UH from 71 to 76 and they were given to me at that time.

    Re: Green Bay

Nothing against Viagra user Brett Favre, but I think Green Bay is doing the right thing by letting Aaron Rodgers start. If Favre stays with GB he should help in the development of Rodgers knowing it will be his team. Having sat behind Favre for the past 3 yrs. or so may have given Rodgers enough knowledge of the offense but he needs some game time experience. Favre at 38yrs old can still play but either he backs Rodgers up or just goes to a different team to start, JETS perhaps???

Actually, it has been an interesting cruise through the NFL message boards and blogs.
We are really blessed to have such a family style blog here. We don’t really feel the need to find friendship in mutual hate – which seems to drive some of the boards.

Yet, when something uncool arises, we are able to muster a strong voice and sound the alarm.

All in all, the 5 or 6 F’s usually rule the day and enjoying them does not diminish manhood or femininity.

hey bg thanks for the aloha.

Zorn is the consummate optimist. He also has no choice but to openly support and nurture the QB he inherited and whom the franchise has pre ordained as the QB of the future. We’ll see what happens, and as a fan, I’d love for JC to pan out, but I don’t see it.

Furthermore, that Zorn hand picked Colt Brennan in the draft speaks volumes.

Myth No. 2: Brennan’s poor showing against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl (22-for-38, 169 yards, three interceptions) proves he can’t play against elite, NFL-type competition.

Reality: He carved up several BCS teams in his three years, including a 559-yard, five-touchdown showing against Arizona State and a 42-for-50, 442-yard, five-score outing against Washington. He also topped 400 yards against Wisconsin, Purdue and Oregon State.

I think with the popularity of football growing amongst women it would be good to have a pro women’s hawaii football team. After watching highlight videos of the IWFL I would definitely watch wahine play football and laying out other wahine on the turf.

The reality is, many folks are so desperate for Colt to be the real thing that they have to keep kicking the tires and are impatient to see the qualities that we “homers” are touting.

Yup. I mean, the whole team is looking West Coast Offense in the face and having to make adjustments.
ALL the QB’s have to adjust. Zorn is even getting the tall ones to “play low” to about Colt’s height… bwahahha.

Zorn himself has a 3/4 lefty release 😆

I think Colt is in the best place he could possibly be in right now. The pressure is off – in that he isn’t expected to be the starter after 2 weeks of practice. Although Colt -vs- the Colts has a kind of ring to it

And having been a “system” QB in college gives him a leg up on Zorn’s system. Funny how “system” is not a dirty word in the NFL!

  199. Garret July 26, 2008 9:41 pm

It is no surprise that Samson is listed as a starter, but it is good to note the other guys that will be on the line with him.

The one unit that appears to have a clear First Team is the offensive line. You probably knew this already, but from left to right it is: Jake Long, Justin Smiley, Samson Satele, Trey Darilek and Vernon Carey.

  200. Garret July 26, 2008 9:42 pm

This is a note from Miami’s first practice during training camp.

Someone should check Davone Bess’ hands for stick ‘em or super glue. The guy catches everything.

  201. Garret July 26, 2008 9:43 pm

Looks like the Miami coaches really made an example of 2 players (one of whom was projected to make their final 53-man roster) today.

But Miami’s choice to cut two players on the first day of training camp still sent an important message from this new tough-love regime to the rest of the team: Either get it together or get out.

”These new guys, they’re laying down the law and they’re holding people accountable. The two guys that weren’t in shape got waived,” running back Ricky Williams said of tackle Dan Gore and receiver Justin Wynn. “Coach [Tony Sparano] is making us accountable, so everyone is stepping to the plate.”

  202. Garret July 26, 2008 9:44 pm

Julius Wilson was cut because he didn’t pass his conditioning test when he reported to training camp on Friday. That’s also what got Dan Gore shown the door according to the players.

Sparano threatened the team that anyone who didn’t pass their re-check (combine type drills that need to be completed under a certain time based on position) would get the ax. Sparano showed he’s a man of his word when they worked out former Michigan guard Rueben Riley in the morning, and signed him.

Wilson, who I initially projected would make the 53-man roster, hurt himself and was made an example of I’m told.

“That lets you know that he is not playing around. He told them. He said it, and it is so,” said defensive end Vonnie Holliday. “That proves you can believe what he said. He told everyone don’t come back here out of shape and when you don’t listen….He don’t play around.

Holliday said he’s heard many similar threat in his 11-year career, but never seen it backed up with action.

“This may be the first time it’s enforced to that extent,” Holliday said. “Most coaches will make guys run after practice, and stuff like that, but to actually get sliced! That’s huge, and send a message that comes through loud and clear.”

  203. Garret July 26, 2008 9:45 pm

    Not good news for Reagan.

Both Jalen Parmele and Lex Hilliard showed the ability to catch out of the backfield. Reagan Mauia struggled catching passes while Boomer Grigbsy’s hands appeared soft.

Article about how the WAC will feature more running this season.

Hawaii, with its run-and-gun offense, was the unquestioned face of the Western Athletic Conference last season.

The Warriors, with Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Colt Brennan at the helm, received national attention as they rolled through the 2007 season without a loss — the only Football Bowl Subdivision team to do so — eventually seeing their run end in a 41-10 loss to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

They were WAC football — passing attacks and finesse — and they were the team college football fans from around the country saw more than any other. That wide-open style has been the conference’s perceived calling card for several years now.

“I think that (perception) has been accurate,” Hawaii linebacker Solomon Elimimian said Thursday at the WAC media meetings. “But I think the last two or three years, that’s kind of changed. Now you see teams like Nevada, which was, what, top 10 in the nation in rushing (in 2007) — I played against Nevada and I have more respect for their offensive line and their running backs.

“It’s more smashmouth now. There’s more prolific running backs in the league than there are prolific quarterbacks coming back. It’s definitely changed.”

  208. Garret July 26, 2008 9:49 pm

The position that stands out heading into the 2008 season is running back. At least six teams have a potential offensive player of the year in that spot.

“It’s probably the position of the league,” Derek Dooley, Louisiana Tech’s second-year coach, said. “It seems like every team has a good runner.

“It’s one of the myths, and it’s been a great marketing tool for the WAC, the wide-open league we have, but people don’t realize how physical this league is. You look at the teams that have won the most consistently the last four or five years, they’re physical. Even Hawaii. That’s not a finesse football team. They look finesse, but they’re physical.”

SDSU is having to reduce their practice time because they practiced more than allowed by the NCAA last season. SDSU apparently self-reports a lot of minor violations…but I do not consider having a player play in the season opener when he’s not a full-time student a minor mistake. Athletes being full-time students should be something schools check at the start of every season.

San Diego State has offered to reduce its on-field practice activities by one hour during the first week of football practice next month as a result of having slightly excessive practice time in March 2007.

The NCAA considers the self-reporting of such violations a positive sign of a school’s diligence in rules compliance, no matter how arcane some of the rules may seem.

For example, in November SDSU found that offensive coordinator Del Miller loaned a football to quarterback recruit Drew Westling. By rule, a recruit can’t be given such equipment. So SDSU called for a letter of admonishment to Miller. In addition, Westling was declared temporarily ineligible until the repayment of the “benefit” to charity.

In September the school found that linebacker Freddie Dunkle had competed in the season opener while not enrolled full time, a rules violation. As a result, SDSU withheld Dunkle from the next game against Arizona State.

In the previous two years, SDSU reported a combined 18 similar minor violations.

TCU has an interesting women’s football clinic. Q&A with the players, fashion show by the players, then the women split into groups and get to ask questions to the coaches.

“I’ve always said that in Fort Worth, it’s hard to get anybody to the ballgame if mama doesn’t want to go,” Patterson said.

About 150 women showed up to meet and greet players and coaches, ask questions and learn about TCU’s offense and defense.

It was the eighth straight year for Patterson to host the clinic.

First up was dinner and a fashion show featuring football players Marshall Newhouse, Jason Phillips, Rafael Priest, Heath Raetz, Blake Schlueter, James Vess, Daryl Washington and Jimmy Young.

Tight ends coach Dan Sharp had one woman anxious to ask a question but he continuously overlooked her.

Turns out, it was his wife and he knew she’d have some kind of non-football question for him.

“She’s always heckling me,” he said, laughing. “She’d ask, ‘What time will you be home tomorrow night?’ ”

Hi Liz! It isn’t that bad for Reagan to struggle a little in their first FB receiving drill. I think that blocking and running are far more important for the FB spot. However, everything will be taken into account with Reagan’s battle with Grigsby, so the fact that Reagan didn’t catch as well as his competition is something to note. Special teams will be critical for the FB battle and unfortunately, Grigsby is a top-tier special teams player.

However, last offseason Miami signed Detroit’s starting FB and he was supposed to start and Reagan was supposed to spend the year on the practice squad…until Reagan beat him out for the starting spot and they cut the other FB. So, I have faith in Reagan once they start the contact drills that he’ll show his excellence then.

  215. Garret July 26, 2008 10:20 pm

This Texas A&M kicker is transferring to SMU. I remember this guy’s recruitment very well because he was an early commit to A&M (and I follow their recruiting because it affects Texas) and A&M told him that they needed him a year early due to their kicker situation…so he graduated from high school a year early! He actually played for A&M during what should have been his senior year in high school!

Matt Szymanski asked to be released from his scholarship at A&M on June 6 from first-year head coach Mike Sherman, who granted it while wishing Szymanski well and thanking him for what he’d accomplished.

Szymanski made national news when he graduated from A&M Consolidated in the summer of 2006 before his senior season, which allowed him to enroll in college a full school year early. The only other high school football player believed to have done that was former Southern Cal quarterback John David Booty.

Szymanski was rated the nation’s best prep kicker heading into the 2006 season by Chris Sailor Kicking. He was 19 of 26 on field-goal attempts as a high school junior, opting not to use a kicking tee in order to prepare for college. He hit a 61-yard field goal in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals against Euless Trinity, which was the longest field goal in 5A playoff history in Texas.

The younger Szymanski will work with veteran special teams coach Frank Gansz at SMU. Gansz spent 24 years as a coach in the NFL and is regarded as one of the league’s all-time best special teams instructors.

“Welcome back to Chicago Bears Training Camp highlights. Yesterday was the second day of training camp for the Bears and again no sign of Devin Hester.

But, they brought in another wide receiver from Hawaii Ryan Grice-Mullen. They signed the undrafted free agent after they released FB J.D. Runnels.

Ryan Grice-Mullen is 5’11” weighs about 183 and has a very slim chance of making the team, but he plays the slot and he could replace Devin Hester, if he never shows up again.

Ryan Grice Mullen is a rookie that signed with the Texans as an undrafted free-agent but was cut after the mini-camps.

I was a bit surprised that they didn’t keep him around for longer, I thought Grice-Mullen was the best WR on Hawaii’s team last year.

just kidding. Beck’s certainly does strange things to a diet plan.

When these terrible symptoms hit, only bed rest will cure.

But I DID vacuum and read a whole book this afternoon.

There is something warm and comforting about sinking in a sea of words…

  235. al July 26, 2008 11:36 pm

    at least you got five.
my favorite though is that macadamia puffed rice bars.

gg….this is the night shift. and no need refrig.

so just the 3 of us tonight? Any lurkers out there?

  238. las vegas July 26, 2008 11:39 pm

I’ve found that a few Becks or like beverage changes the prescription of my glasses, for some reason most females start looking better.
However some require at least a six pack before improving.

  239. gigi-hawaii © July 26, 2008 11:40 pm

do the guys start looking better, too?

  240. las vegas July 26, 2008 11:46 pm

well “I” definitely become better looking, and skinnier while consuming adult beverages, but return to my ugly, fat self in the morning.

  241. HiFlyer July 26, 2008 11:46 pm

gigi – there’s only one way to find out.

  242. gigi-hawaii © July 26, 2008 11:47 pm

“a few” Becks? How many is that?

My limit is 2. Anymore than that and I get sick.

    You’re not fat and ugly.

LV, I bet you are the kind of guy who fixes every single dent in his car as soon as they appear. Hubby is that way.

Me? My Hyundai still has a dent in the front passenger door from 2005!

  247. las vegas July 26, 2008 11:55 pm

    Al san,
    did you stay extra days?

  248. gigi-hawaii © July 26, 2008 11:55 pm

LV, I have seen your pics on SteveM’s site. You are not fat and ugly!

BTW, do you dye your hair?

    Your wife is very attractive.

  249. las vegas July 26, 2008 11:58 pm

    gigi,
for the first two years, I am that lousy guy who takes up two spaces when parking, so I get no dents.
After a couple of years, I don’t worry as much.

  250. las vegas July 27, 2008 12:02 am

    Thank you gigi,
Whats left of my desperately clinging hair is it’s natural color.
Mrs.LV IS attractive and beautiful and an all ’round nice person!

    Hi babe! you reading this?

  251. gigi-hawaii © July 27, 2008 12:03 am

me, too. I have a few white strands, but don’t color my hair.

  252. gigi-hawaii © July 27, 2008 12:05 am

I wish my Hyundai had a plastic body like hubby’s Saturn. His is dent-proof. A shopping cart could hit it and it wouldn’t dent the car.

  253. gigi-hawaii © July 27, 2008 12:07 am

I would buy a Saturn but it doesn’t come in sub-compact sizes. I require sub-compact because my legs are short.

  254. Capitol -ist/WassupDoc July 27, 2008 12:08 am

RE Upside down and backwards – I did a search using Upside Down and Backwards English Alphabet and got a huge number of hits, but I couldn’t find anything which told me how to write the code which would create the letters. All I could do is type in something in one bar and the words would appear upside and/or backwards in the bar below.

In any case, probably the code will not be recognized by whatever program the HA blogs use – it doesn’t even recognize the underline.

What am I supposed to do? Write something and copy and paste into Notepad and then into the Leave A Reply box? Or do I paste it directly here? Or do I create the alphabet and save it to use in writing a post which doesn’t seem very efficient since my mind doesn’t work upside down and/or bacwards very well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone interested in raising $2,000 – for PIAA and to help reimburse BHF2’s generous underwriting of the JUGS repairs? If so, just say so here and I’ll post the proposal sometime next week.

BHF2: Are you going to attend the UH Athletic Department fundraiser on Thursday evening?

A-House: If you do not have my phone number, you can get it from Stephen or Wena. Since I go into town almost daily, we can meet there at your convenience.

Off to bed – chores in the early morning before we go to a memorial service/tree planting & dedication at 2 pm.

    Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

  260. las vegas July 27, 2008 12:18 am

    before I go to sleep,
gigi, although I have never seen your legs and frankly the thought of seeing them up close scares me, they cannot be that short.
besides I think Saturn has done away with the plastic body and returned to sheetmetal.

  263. gigi-hawaii © July 27, 2008 12:22 am

LV, no, the Ion and Vue still have plastic bodies, but the Aura does not. So it depends on the model.

  264. gigi-hawaii © July 27, 2008 12:24 am

Anyway, I know what it is like to drive a compact. I have to sit too close to the steering wheel for my foot to touch the pedal.

    Sub-compacts are more comfy.

Special recognition to UHfan808 who was recently elevated to Super Cheffess status for her “friggin awesome” homestyle Portuguese Bean Soup. Look for it on your favorite neighborhood grocery shelves (note that I said “look” – it may not actually be there).

Jojo tell Jeje to throw out a challenge for the 1st Tsaiko T-gate PBS challenge. It would be interesting to see which of them would reign supreme in a blind ‘bean’ soup taste test. (Remember Rap’s Cracka test?)

    Alojah Kakahiakaz…

Re: Colt Brennan – Love how everyone is anticipating and critiqueing Colt’s every move. Colt doesn’t necessarily need alot of work throwing the ball, the work that Zorn wants him to get better at is his dropback footwork under center and movement in the pocket. Zorn has a different way he teaches this, so his focus for Colt is his technique basically. Love how he implements different drills using Madden Football like stuff. Like the throwing of the medicine balls at QB’s to simulate a pass rush, etc…very creative.

Re: Davone Bess – Miami would be really stupid if they don’t have Bess on a roster spot. After reading all the blogs, articles, and practice films…seems to me like Davone has the best hands of all there receivers. He would make them and excellent slot receiver with those hands especially in third down situations where guys like Wes Welker excelled.

Re: Ryan Grice-Mullens – Needs to get his hammy straight or else??? I believe he can make the Bears team…although I’d rather him be on a better team with a better QB. Grossman is garbage and don’t understand why he still starts in Chicago. Reminds me of Alex Smith on the 49ers, frikkin scrubs! Will be a battle though with Devon Hester back and Rashied Davis (WAC alum SJSU) switching to receiver.

Re: Reagan Mauia – I believe he will be Miami’s starting FB again this season. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams running frequently, I think he is a better blocking FB than Grigsby. How often does Miami throw to the FB??? Besides they have to figure out there QB situation too which means more running to ease there QB in…

Anybody heard any news on how Hercules Satele is doing in AZ?

BHF2 ~ Da ‘Makaha’ Shark was spotted heading your way! Lucky for him because A-Sports was casting a mean fish hook yestaday! Not only dat!…she wen snag a bucket full of crabs too!

    Aloha Kakahiaka, gangees! Morning, ST!

Beautiful sunny day in Arid-zona. Tropical storm Dolly provided two days of drenching thundershowers. Today’s AZ Cardinals practice is scheduled on the practice fields outside; they moved into the Skydome yesterday when we had uku rains. New turf in there, so it’ll be interesting to see it when they have an indoor scrimmage. Met some people from HI (Maui, I think) who were looking to meet Francisco, Satele, LaBoy & Letui at practice. Me, too!

  284. Pauoa Boy July 27, 2008 7:48 am

    Stretch – haha no worries

MeiLing – Any updates so far on how our local boys/polys are doing in the Cardinals camp?

  285. MeiLing July 27, 2008 7:54 am

    Aloha, PB,

I haven’t been to a practice yet. Going this afternoon. Hope I can catch all of the guys at this practice. I’m going to wear my UH Warriors football t-shirt, so I stand out. Let you guys know what’s up. The Cardinals are here for a month, so I’ll be catching more practices & scrimmages later.

  286. Pauoa Boy July 27, 2008 8:00 am

    MeiLing…
Right on how’s the weather down there, blazing yet or what? I remember working in Yuma and was 115-120 degrees scorching hot on the flight line. Had to bring out buckets of water to throw the tools inside or else get blistahs from the frikkin heat. I like AZ but I dunno how you can handle…maybe Flagstaff not the bad though…

PB, I live in the mountains of AZ at 7,000 ft. elevation. It’s pretty cool up here; maybe a high of 83 today if it doesn’t rain. We get snow in the winter. I’m not a desert rat; don’t like the heat in Phoenix.

Have you heard of this new site?
