Back to business
During today’s news conference, Greg McMackin said:
• There will some personnel changes in the lineup, although he was not specific.
• He said the Warriors need to improve on the perimeter defense, pass protection and, although they were in the correct position in the defensive secondary against UNLV, they needed to make plays.
• Right guard David Lefotu will get playing time, although it was not announced if it would be as a starter.
• Defensive tackle Haku Correa won’t play this week.
• Offensive lineman Chauncy Winchester-Makainai isn’t expected to return this week.
• Acknowledged the Warriors were on the road too long. McMackin’s preference is not to play any more back-to-back road games; after that, he would prefer to return home between games. (The Warriors actually arrived in Las Vegas earlier than UNLV, which played the previous game against Washington State.)

With the 48-hour brooding period about to expire, the Warriors are focusing on Saturday’s opponent — UC Davis — and correcting the ills of the past Saturday’s loss to UNLV.
The day is filled with meetings and conditioning drills.
The UC Davis game plan will be introduced to the players tomorrow morning.
* * * * *
Liz Kauai has donated her ticket to the UH-UC Davis game this Saturday. It’s just ONE ticket, but it’s near midfield (in the upper section). If you wish to enter the drawing, please post: One snap and clear.
Avis will choose the winner.
Woot! First!
Where is everyone?
It’s like a ghost town here.
Not sure. But I was ready to sleep in when they moved the conditioning drills to this afternoon.
Traveling makes my nose stuffy.
Good Morning Tsai-kos!
Should be an interesting turnout at Na Koa today.
It’s a slow recovery, give people time. You are not a fan unless you are a fanatic and that requires dealing with the pain as well as the joy.
Time to reset the mentality
Good Morning Gangeez! 🙂
Top Ten!
DAMN!! I hope they don’t use the UNLV game plan for this coming Saturday’s game. It didn’t work!!
Aha!
Regroup, refocus and reaffirm. And most of all…
… GO WARRIORS!!!
10 and 11 –
🙂
Who else is going to Na Koa lunch?
#10,
Ahhhhh makes sense now. We used the UW game plan against UNLV. Got it. lol =P
Top 20
On the bright side; Warriors still get chance to win the WAC title before departing for the MWC…woooohoooo!!! Let’s go Warriors!!, u can do it!
McMackin says Warriors’ woes are fixable following UNLV loss
McMackin says Warriors’ woes are fixable following Washington loss
McMackin says Warriors’ woes are fixable following ( Fill in the Blank )loss
fixable=no more back-to-back road games. tank-u-veri-much, Elvis-style, la-dat!!
Get well Lefiti.
Go Warriors.
Stephen,
I think you need to change the blog post:
“The UNLV game plan will be introduced to the players tomorrow morning.”
We’re playing the Ag school. I went there once with my honey & his horse.
Seen plenty people still at the cal during breakfast this morning… 🙂
#18,
To be fair, I do think a lot of the problems are fixable. I mean unless he is saying we are going to grow Tank taller to solve the problem its not an impossibility.
I still believe we can have a decent season if the coaches and players work hard at it.
That being said, I got 2 words…Prove It.
Great Morning All!
The Blog Host is sometimes quite crafty at how he lets out insights. I hope he’s not doing so this morning! 🙁
al,
If you still can’t get to the online content articles, call the SA number & talk to customer support. There is a known problem with accounts that are expired on the paper subscription side (like, our bill only goes through today) not allowing access on the online side. IT has to reset the online account.
Slugger, DPK,
You going to lunch?
Gotta go… latahs.
Play nice… go to the Na Koa lunch…
I can’t go to the Na Koa lunch; have a funeral to go to… you should go, iwwthm…
Aloha Kakahiaka!
Just arrived in LAX with time for a breather before the last leg home.
Go Warriors!

UNLV football upsets high-powered Hawaii in home-opener
I’m sure if CO prepared for Moniz’s running we would be 0-3 right now. That said, I think we have a lot of talent on this team. Go Warriors!
Slugger,
Yep I am going.
Good morning all,
DPK howdy. Sure glad the 48 hour period is coming to an end. Time to put our efforts towards next weeks opponent already.
Go Warriors
who is the speaker for the luncheon?
…still wandering the deserted streets of the 9th island. The agony of defeat is no less painful today.
Shopping day for da tutu. That’s her game, and she *never* loses!
koakane,
Dave Aranda. Should be good.
Dave Aranda is scheduled today.
The O-Line is getting a lot of the blame for our poor offensive showing. I took a look at the numbers and will post them probably tomorrow. This is my initial analysis. When Moniz completes a pass he releases the ball after the snap on average in about 2.49 seconds. Incompletions are released on average in about 2.55 seconds. Clearly Rolo has designed a release point at about 2.5 seconds, and this includes downfield passes which makes sense since that will make it a 45 to 50 yard pass. On most completions and incompletions Moniz could have held on to the ball longer if he wanted to. I will have more information as well as the numbers on Graves hopefully tomorrow.
As an unofficial Warrior Auntie, let me say that I appreciate all the good thoughts and encouraging words coming from this blog to our laboring young players and their teachers.
As a mom, I know how uplifting it is for kids to receive support instead of criticism, especially when they are feeling responsible and bad already.
Conversely, a negative attitude is not a power unto itself. It demonstrates the absence of a positive attitude as darkness is the absence of light.
Let the sunshine of the Warrior Beat light the way for our Warrior Ohana so that all may be warmed, comforted, and made joyous in the game again!
God Bless!
Made it home last night after spending the morning playing Airport shuttle driver. After that, not really able to get “connected” so wasn’t reading The Warrior Beat at all.
Didn’t and not going read any of the comments from yesterday…
but before the 48-hour period ends going chime in.
– Heard BC this morning relating that John Veneri felt ashamed to be sporting the Green after that debacle and really have to agree. No team will ever find a better opportunity for a road win given the circumstances going into the game on Saturday. It was very disappointing to hear Rebel fans celebrating, “Hey, we have a lead!” halfway thru the first quarter and then watch it continue downhill from there.
– One other WAC champion from last season put 2 receivers in the NFL this year; they are 2-0 with two road wins including one against a preseason SEC contender. Hawaii put 2 receivers in the NFL and fans can only cheer for YAC from the Alumnus now catching passes thrown short from Sam Bradford.
– IF he has enough time, QB1 cannot find a wide who can get separation on a deep route.
– Speaking of NFL draftees, based on the performance to date it may be awhile before another Hawaii back gets drafted.
As for UNLV- congratulations to the Young Rebels who learned their lessons through the crucible of defeats on the road and did their best before their home crowd on Saturday.
d1…its time to put that speed that was recruited on the field. a lot of times we moan about the qb’s inability to hit the long one, when, in fact most often is the case that the wo’s are not open at all.
where is allen sampson?
gant, davis…..?
The Rebels ran onto the field to a chorus of “Don’t Stop Believing” playing on the Stadium PA.
At the time I thought that was a pretty revealing testament to where their team was.
I wonder if someone can find a copy that tune by Saturday? 🙄
D-1 ~
The BONG cheer by those rascal UNLV fans in our section still reverberating in my head!
Every time we had a 3rd down situation they cranked up that cheer…and the sad part is…it worked for them!
al,
that’s what i wanted to know too. is it on the QB or WR or O-line or all 3 that we don’t have a deep ball threat anymore.
we used to though…i remember those days.
Thanks for the catch on the UNLV/UC Davis mistake.
Think I’m still jet-lagged.
d1:
The Glee soundtrack?
Did you here about the football player who asked his coach to
flood the field so he could go in as a sub?
Where do quarterbacks go when they get old?
Out to pass-ture.
d1,
i love the UH Band being part of the COLLEGE experience. But a theme song of some sort, pertinent to a specific game either piped in or played by the band would be AWESOME.
i dunno if i should suggest that at today’s Na Koa lunch but I will try.
Probably could find a copy at a casino. They love playing that and letting it subliminally work on “Guests” who keep pumping in cash to the slots.
would “We’ve Only Just Begun” by the Carpenters be a bad choice? lol 😛
“Laughter In The Rain” by Neil Sedaka…if that don’t get you pumped up.
iwwthm,
As Kevin has mentioned in the past, the sound system at Aloha Stadium may not make that as effective as at Boyd Stadium. Must be pretty easy to find $omeone who can in$tall a good $ound $y$tem in Vega$$$$.
The Biggest Fixable Item of note should be Turnovers…Without those Four Fumbles it may have been a different game…I have faith that Coach Mack and Comp will get this ship back on track…
d1,
When JJ was here they used to set up a sound system at field level during practice time. They do this for Pro Bowl too I think.
Anyway the sucker was loud as I could hear the music loud and clear even from my seat.
Wonder where that equipment went.
Along the lines of being able to hear things.
It was great to see the Hawaii band at the game.
However, the band was in the sideline stands near the EZ on the open (scoreboard) end of the stadium. Pretty sure the Rebel fans sitting across the field may have been about the only ones who could hear them. Perhaps for future games they might consider sitting in the other EZ and more directly face the bulk of the Hawaii fans.
Unfortunately, I think Laura won the score contest last week.
Is that correct?
Think anything is fixable. alot if it is personnel I think. Clapp should be a starting receiver from now on. Boy got game.
Don’t think bright is ready for the big lights. O line needs big time help.
Hello Everyone! Wow! The blog responses are calmer today. The last couple blogs were “Whew!” LOL. I am actually watching the UNLV game on TV right now in San Diego. I have been reading and responding to newspaper articles this morning.
Also think they got to get jackson caught up with da blocking. We need his running.
Big Daddy:
It all started with somebody spelling out letters on the Boyd Turf.
Hey, I noticed that Fox Pacific, or something like that, is showing the Coach Mack Show this week. They’re also re-airing the UH-UW game all week. Don’t know when they’ll be showing the UH-UNLV replays.
Re: Aranda:
I’m curious as to why they decided to do linebacker platoons.
The second-unit LBs were all in on the 80-yard run.
After that, Aaron Brown never left the field. Best game of his career (even though they shorted him two tackles).
Well, off to the news conference. Should be a dandy.
Fixable.. just as soon as our players get well and serve out their sanction…
702warriorfan: From yesterday…
I think UNLV just wasn’t prepared for Graves and I’m not sure they were playing their first team at that point. I’m sure Graves was given a shorter leash with quick developing plays just to keep it safe. No telling what would have happened if he were to have waited longer for the deeper patterns to develop. Hard to compare the two from this past game.
On that point… I’m wondering why Moniz isn’t told to go for those quick developing plays more often and take a chance with YAC rather than waiting so often for someone to break open 10-15 yards deep. Need to change that ratio.
Actually, Id like to see some of the guys from this recruiting class playing, such as Craig Cofer, Brendan Daley, Tavita Woodard and Brandon Leslie.
I guess Edu Amadi is redshirting because of the subluxed shoulder. He would have been fun to watch.
ST:
LOL. I remember that was a fun day at the stadium. LOL. The UH-UNLV replay is on CBS college sports. I met LizKauai in Las Vegas. Very exciting! Thank you. I met –808, do not remember which 808. I did not realize there are several 808s on the blog.
Footballs are shaped funny and take crazy bounces…
Scoldings from lizKauai. Thank you for reminding me of the powers of positive thought.
Safe journeys back go to your great island of Kauai.
No Laura did not win.
To all the Warrior parents, please bare with us, we are not all jerks.
IWWTHM –
Not going to Willows. Diet is back “on” and I need to work. Another time for sure. You go and ask the hard hitting questions for us. 😉
Good Morning, Tom, Liz, Slugger, Ballpicker and everybody else.
Pomai –
Its getting scary these days how much ur posts are exactly what I am thinking. For example, your #73… …exactly.
You’re never as good as you think you are after a win. You’re never as bad as you think you are after a loss.
Does anyone Here believe that Mack will get a contract renewal????? In fact, do any of you believe he deserves the salary that he is receiving???? Mack has done nothing with the football team since his tenure here. Don’t any of you agree?
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
And the sun also rises …
Gosh, just when I was going off my diet and ready to hear what Coach Aranda has to say, DPK decided to go back on his diet!
Guess we both won’t break bread today – but good morning DPK!
What’s with the Mack bashing all of a sudden? Three games don’t make a season. We are one loss more than had been anticipated by the odds-makers. Eh… so we make it up later in the season.
We lost to literally one of the worst teams in college football!!!! I don’t think that’s deserving of a 1. Something million dollar contract…I guarantee there are a lot more coaches that would do a hell of a better job than Mack…we’re going nowhere with him.
Why don’t these Mack bashers bash Rolo or Aranda, instead? Sheeh.. or Tomey.. Special teams weren’t exactly the lightning brigadiers.
McMackin: UC Davis is ‘dangerous’
link:
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/130138118.html
Yeah but I bet the oddsmakers never thought we’d lose to one of the worst teams in the nation……UNLV??? You gotta be kidding me.
Turnovers have in interesting way of making good teams looking real bad.
#1 goal of every game should be to win the turnover battle. Lose the turnover battle and you will lose the game almost 80% of the time.
Turnovers
Win 2 Phases
Red Zone Offense
Big Plays on S.T.
Eliminate Penalties
Sudden Change
***1st Down Productivity***
What we need are 7 skinny straight A students from Samoa
six foot seven-ish. Then put them on a Tsaiko diet…
Hey UC Davis could be “dangerous” …
UC Davis lost to Arizona State by only 48-14.
Ok well first of all, Mack is the head coach.. its his job (remember now, he makes a million something freakin dollars) to prioritize and get everything in order..its his responsibility
Every team has it’s moment..on any day on any playing field, that’s why they play the game. UNLV came out to play and they created opportunities for themselves by creating and recovering those fumbles. Kudos for UNLV for not letting the opportunities slip by…
But why blame Mack only when you have OC, DC, and ST coaches, too? Blame em all if your going to pick on any one coach. It’s a team effort… coaching and players.
#81 – When a company is failing, the Board of Directors will blame the CEO.
Okay.. take away Mack.. and you probably lose Aranda and Rollo…. Think Tomey will want to be head coach.. ? heh.. dunno if I’d want him… We’d probably lose a few of our grayshirts, and currently redshirt freshmen as many really like Mack… We’d start from scratch … maybe no longer do the RnS cause none of our coaches have that kind of connection to the RnS…
The loss should actually be blamed on everyone from the Board of Regents all the way down to the waterboy.
Looks like we have two 702WF & 702Wf, posted yesterday, how bout that.
Also agree with some of the 702Wf comments made.
Wonder if not having their trip home after UDub and not being able to practise against their service squad at home might affect how team performed? Just wondering since 66 players minus injured, doesn’t seem to provide the necessary preparation opportunity. Think I’d rather see them fly home between road games for classes and preparation for next game. Plz book seats or charter now for next years road games.
Kekoa, was good seeing you again….
Mahalo to A-house family, LizK and Rich for the gifts provided….great seeing everyone again at the game.
Finally met Wafan and Brew, wonderful guys.
And a safe trip home 99 and to those leaving today.
Again, thanks to Rasu Begasu for setting up the Sat. afternoon shindig at Fiesta and transport and Rich for the tickets. Glad transport total count worked out too. Prepaid transportation for next UNLV game should be the rule too. Been an unusual year with Rich also having to hustle around to sell the remaining unpaid for tickets. Thanks guys!
Eh, we lost… lots of out-of-synch problems with the team… I dunno if experimenting with platooning of the LBs on a road game is a good idea… especially the second week of being on the road. That’s like adding more fuel to Murphy’s Law.
Better we learn from our mistakes and move on … than start from scratch.
I like to see Coach Mac come to practice on a Harley
motorcycle and rip it around the team practice and
swerve to a dramatic stop in front of them. Take off
his helmet, slam it to the ground, and say, “Let’s play!
I’ve got your back…”
One snap and clear.
sorry
good morning everyone! I just found out I need to really work before next week! Wish me luck!
move Gant to LWR
Ipu Man: #85 That’s funny! I get it. It’s the travel. LOL.
Even the fans can be blamed for the loss. We gave the team a false sense of security by making them believe that they are good. Last year’s team was good. This year’s team is still trying to figure out who they are. Two starters returned from last year’s offense. Only two. Moniz is a very good quarterback. But Moniz is missing five other guys that went to NFL camps. Those are very real, big shoes to fill. We all knew, or should have known that the offense would take awhile to come around.
Well you should not assume as to what recruits we notwill lose. Who’s to say that the next coach coming in would.not win the respect of many recruited student athletes????? And as for the assistants, come on, its not like they are the most sought after assistants throughout college football. What accomplishments have they varnished?? Well, ill tell you…..NOTHING!!!! We, warrior fans, have always wanted the football program to attain respect through the collegiate football world; time and time again. Do you believe we will receive that respect after losing to one of college footballs worst football teams??? I don’t think so. Not only that, but to lose games that we should sin on a consistent basis? Yeah right. I’m a lurker on this blog I swear like every 15 minutes and rarely ever voice my opinion. But after this disgusting loss I believed it was time to do so regardless what many may think or believe.
Garnered….not varnish….sorry for the typo.
Moniz is missing 10 other guys… Need an oline that can protect… a center that can get him the ball at the same place consistently, receivers that can get open and catch the ball and a running back that can block.
Oline and Center (really don’t know if we have the personnel that can fix this issue right away)
Receivers: Clapp, Pollard, Miah, and Stutzman look pretty good (but that’s three slots and one WR.) We need a WR that can shake off his defenders fast and go deep without a hitch.
BUT we need our Defense to make more stops.
We will never win the second game of an 11-12 day road trip. Haven’t we learned that yet? Nobody does that for a good reason. Eat the extra $100,000 and bring the boys home to let them sleep in their own beds and go to school even if it means only three days in a week. This is not Wahine Volleyball playing Wac teams like La Tech and Boise on a single road trip.
Actually, I’ve been more disappointed with our Defense of late. I expected a lot more from them going into the Washington and UNLV games. I think Aranda maybe trying to implement too many new angles into his schemes. Keep It Simple S……
I wonder if it is illegal for defensive backs to wear those
60’s disco shoes, you know, that make you six inches taller?
Time to board… Bye bye LAX, Hello LIH in 5.5 hours!
Look at the header- ST is giving away a game ticket. 🙂
Aloha,
Liz
Hi BDK!
Sorry for the shortcut name… Gotta run!
Respect?
UH will have to earn that from the Academic end first, and maybe move our team over to the West Coast. Otherwise we will always be a fluke or curiosity no matter how many games we win. Our 2007 season didn’t get us respect, it got us curiosity. We have been one of the top 25 performing football programs in the past decade… but we still have no real respect.
We play when most of the world is sleeping. Win or lose, we are a by-line on most sports pages. Our loss to UNLV will be forgotten in a few days.. because like UH, UNLV doesn’t have all that great a following, either. Not that big a deal to anyone outside of the respective school’s fans.
Dunno what’s worse… our loss to UNLV or Ohio State dropping out of the top 25… with all their $$$ and blue chippers on the roster.
Good morning gang…
Whew…Tough weekend but one snap and clear. Even the best teams are tested by what people consider inferior opponents…Appalachian State-Michigan is one that immediately comes to mind….
We can still have a good season…the coaches and the boys need to fix the mistakes…learn from them…and move on to the next. It needs to done like a business…put up or shut up…and like IWWTHM said, Prove it….
and GOOD LUCK JOJO!!! LOL
Come on down to the Na Koa lunch. Plenty of room still.
Good food.
You know what, if a kid is too short or whatever to play in a postion, I believe it’s time to stop … harping on it.
Take it up with the coaching staff who makes the decisions on personel.
I actually thought that UNLV was a real good football team. We’ll see how good they actually are over the next two months.
One slap and fear.
Might need to get used to that…unless things turn around quick!
Ya I would love to see amadi in. herd alot of gud things. Been wondering why daley hasnt been in. thot maybe they redshirting him cuz we lose 2lbs this year. Same for leslie.
Next year lbs shud be gud. With laurel, daley, and da other guyname escape me now. And its not geroge.
One snap and clear
Great week here in sin city!
Met a lot of Tsaikos old and new, lots of laughs
good food and a disapointing loss.
1.Lotta guys (or just the same guy posting with diff names)
calling for Mac’s head.
When JJ quit, I really rallied against Mac being hired,
I saw him as just another carpetbagger asst coach looking
for his first HC job.
Over the years, Mac has proven that he can win in the middle
of the Pacific and although he still sems to get outcoached every
so often has earned my respect.
Realisticaly, who would we hire if Mac is fired, do you think that
any veteran coach would want to work witin the constraints
and budget of UH?
There will be many bright and young asst coaches that would love
the chance to put a HC job on their resume’, but can they recruit
and coach in this culture?
Or will they just use UH as stepping stone to a better, brighter future?
Besides that, fireing Mac means a buyout, more money wasted by a
school that cannot afford it
Travel is not going to change anytime soon.
People need to remember what ALL athletic programs are dealing with. $$$$$ before wins and those breathing down the necks of athletic department admin only see one bottom line and that is $$$$$.
Cannot forget there are those that only care about how much athletics SAVES as opposed to how much athletics wins.
Of course the value of a winning program equates to more fan interest which equates to dollars made and saved, but we’re talking about people that would RATHER see athletics DIE if they had their way.
Support the WARRIORS…
One snap and clear.
Mountain West trying to be proactive in conference realignment…most interesting part is ongoing discussions with TCU…
http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2011/09/19/bmurphy/mountain_west_commish_says_league_talking_with_big_12_big_east_m#ixzz1YR8n7pB8
I hope the Warrior’s come out and play with passion next week, one thing that I notice that has been missing is onfield/off field leadership by the players,it seems as if no one wants to step on anyone else’s toes and get the team hyped up to go out their and make plays,IMHO the D set the tone on the first drive forcing UNLV to punt, the offense how ever has not started off strong this is something I hope we can change beginning this week…
In 2007 the team song was Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing”
2 years ago Mack Had the team listen to Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”
After the past two weeks, the team motto for the remaining season should be from “The Police”
“I can’t stand losing”
Last thing I’ll say on the game:
The momentum we had sharing the 2010 WAC title and headed to a bowl game after the MWC/BWC invite was MURDERED on national television at the Hawaii Bowl.
We needed that win A LOT, further validates our invitation in conjunction with the MWC’s wishes to be AQ.
Momentum slowly regained with a win on national TV against Colorado and we could have survived losing at Seattle, but the blowout loss to a traditional MWC bottom-feeder sets us back BIG TIME.
This is like a marriage and just because the girl says “I do”, don’t think you can let yourself go along with your opu. Wife can still take on “gentlemen callers” if you know what I mean.
Nothing is secure in college football conferences and next thing you know UH going be the pissed off one driving around in their F-350 at 2am chasing the guy running out of your house in his boxers on Noelani St. in lower Pearl City.
Darren – thanks for posting that (#121). The MWC NEEDS to be proactive. With all of these 16 team conferences likely to develop, the smaller schools will be left out in the cold. Especially Hawaii. As a Hawaii fan, I have long hoped for the day that UH finally got accepted into the Pac-10, 12, 14, whatever. Now that they have (all but officially) cemented their plans to go to 16, Hawaii will never get in. I am bummed out about that. The MWC is the biggest conference we will ever be a part of. And it is looking like the MWC will end up being one of the bottom conferences after all of the major realignment is done.
So Kevin…what kind of mileage do you get out of that F-350??
Can’t tell you. Im not in construction so I dont need an F-350.
Go Warriors!
Beat UC Davis!
Go Wahine!
Beat Idaho!
checking in
down to amber ashes so what ever needs to be fix get it done. whatever it takes make it happened. just return the warriors to winning. I know care how just do it.
turn out Saturday no excuses
Would Lefiti flourish as a guard and Sapolo do better as center? Gotta firm up the Oline.
We’ve had three games… three opportunities… three hours of game speed experience for our Warriors. Lots of tape to figure out who should be where and when. Now is the time to make those tweaks and get the right personnel in the right positions and start off strong.
Lefotu will be playing this week. Not sure if it will be as a starter.
Did you get an answer about the LB rotation?
702warriorfan:
“September 19th, 2011 at 8:43 am
offense take:
moniz is not on a lot. i was impressed with graves.
o-line needs work, a lot of work.
rb is a problem. iosefa can block, but cant run, jackson can run but cant block!
slots did well. clapp and stuz were the only bright spots. stuz (yac) can run. i was at the game and he and clapp were consistanly open. both have great hands. i noticed clapp got the short outs and stutz got the stuff over the middle in stride.
outside wr did not do that well.
bright slow, lack of hands. could be cause he is hurt?? does not do well in traffic.
pollard drops! but he needs to get more involved in the offense.
the wr screen is stupid. sets everyone up for getting killed.
i would move clapp to left wr
clapp stuz miah pollard , lets give that a try.”
____DONT KNOW IF CLAPP IS WR, BUT I THINK I WOULD LIKE TO SEE #2 AT WR he has great speed!
Clapp, Stuz, Miah, Pollard might be the answer right now.. but we need to keep Bright, Sampson, and the others involved by rotating them in (One At A Time) on all positions during 1st and second down situations from around midfield. We don’t want to see to significant a drop off each time our starting receiver goes down.
Go Warriors.
Time to protect the house.
Seconded: i also had that thought:
Play the “Best Four” (OR at least Rotate the Top Five, Six, Seven, Eight, til you KNOW who can be COUNTED On)…
Clapp has size, disciplined routes and (maybe?) enough Speed and/OR Technique to Get Open and Activate our Dormant Wide Receiver Positions …
i’m SURE the coaches have many such ideas based on Abysmal Performance — plural for some who haven’t shown up or proven, much (yet) …
BTW, this was the ‘other’ reason that i thought maybe (coaches’ & players’ call) it might have been better to NOT redshirt Bright last year — he might have gotten enough third or fourth quarter action and game experience to have started this season on the full run …
we need to do better … and i think Mack & Co. already have started — and build better “ready-to-play” depth .. QB, WR, OL, etc. … maybe more like DBs…
Doesn’t Bright only have this season? If they didn’t redshirt him last year, he would be gone. I could be wrong. I tend to be a lot.
Bright’s got that turf toe…. we might not be able to count on him for a spell.. maybe better to rest him for a few weeks.
While I for one have expressed my share of disgust and disappointment over the loss, I am ready to move on. I am still hopeful that our team has what it takes (that I never waivered on) and that we can fix our weaknesses. Sometimes just gotta hold individuals responsible.
Warriors . . . go out there this week and work hard, as you always do, and come out Saturday and kick okole.
POMAI please . . . UH 48 UCDavis 17
good points
i like stuz and clapp on the field at the same time. seem to have chemistry starting??
they compliment eachother. and i have faith that pollard will show up. someone stated clapp / stuz / miah / pollard. sounds like it is worth a try. but can clapp stretch the field? maybe rotate him and #2 at left wr?
i have faith in rolovich. i was impress also with stuz and clapp at slot a lot.

Bright has another year. So I say, let’s give him a few weeks rest to see if that turf toe heals up some. Maybe they can put some stays under the cushion of his soles to keep them from bending or giving too much.
agree to rest Bright until 100%.
We need to put our “best-that-day” players on the field.
Interesting experience up at UH Manoa Gardens watching the game amongst all the students on campus. We all felt like 38 instead of 28 amongst the “younins” but, for a room that seats 105, it was standing-room only. Students came out dressed up as if it was gameday at the stadium with some having their faces painted.
Only two big screen HD TVs, one in each corner of the room facing the doors.
Cheap beer on tap Blue Moon 32oz for 6.75 and Dead Guy Ale for about 7.00 for a 32oz as well, but lackluster on the food. Just pizza from papa johns for 3.00/slice.
Was good enough for us as we just wanted a place to watch the game and walk over to the SSC for the vball match.
Forgot to mention, they DO have a kitchen, but it was closed. Very cafeteria-like in setting with the bar in the middle.
Usually not open on weekends, but will be open for ALL away football games this season.
Anyplace that serves Dead Guy Ale can;t be half bad for watching football.
(Is that really 32 oz? Seen 22 oz. bottles from Rogue; 32 at that price would make that a hotspot for me regardless of how old I’d feel!)
(…while I could still feel)
d1,
It’s 32oz for sure. Same size plastic cups like at baseball and at the SSC.
Surprised us because you don’t see Dead Guy Ale on TAP in Hawaii a lot.
Thanks MIH. I often lose track of years of eligibility. After Timmy Chang played his 9 seasons as UH QB, I gave up trying to keep track.
j/k
So do we know that the foot is still bothering him? Could explain the speed issues, but not the drops. I think if he is healthy, he just needs to play. The coaches need to do a better job of putting him in the right positions. One thing I noticed on a couple of occasions was that he is not coming back to the ball when Moniz needs him to. There were a couple of throws that you could tell Moniz intended him to come back to the ball and catch it. Instead he would just let it drop. Anyway, braddah got the tools, just needs development.
D1,
But again, food is sparse with only Papa Johns there. You know upper campus is also pinching pennies by keeping the kitched closed.
Saw some students “brown bagging” grinds in though.
Pomai,
AFTER 48 hours
Recovering … The Road Back to Respectability and Reliability Begins @ Home … just about reversing the score again …
UH 41 UC-Davis 20
STILL Might Take a Painful Pause @ LATech …wouldn’t be the First Time they’ve blown us out … or the State of Louisiana has NOT Been Hit Hard by Hawai’i …
ANY NA KOA “Surprises”?
I still fully expect that Bright will prove Big-Time Valuable in his two years here … and maybe turf-toe might mess up his speed (and maybe routes) and maybe his jumps …BUT when the ball hits a wide receiver or slotback in the hands MOST should be caught … even some when the DB is draped over you …
…i’m guessing but being home, being angry, or comfortable and focused, this would potentially (not to underestimate the opposition AGAIN) be a good week for break-out performances: catches, runs, blocks, strips, picks … go-all-out, go for broke, and probably get away with it while (maybe) discovering how much more each player can do while still playing under control, in the scheme …
One snap and clear.
*Na Koa Lunch*
Lunch went well. Coach Mack showed up to address the audience. Said things he has already said before. Wants to ensure that we get our act together for the upcoming game. Said this is the exact same record we had last year at the same time.
Most importantly he asked for the fan’s kokua because this is when it is needed the most.
Dave Aranda broke down video. Promised he will address issues in the Secondary. Said for the most part our Secondary is well covered however they are “just not making the plays.” There might be some position changes but no personnel changes “at this time”.
Stated that UC Davis is another team that runs a “Pro Style” offense. Very similar to UW.
Pomai,

Mahalo!
One snap and clear
One or more snaps and learn–with enthusiasm!!
Thanks for the Lunch update!
How do you spell holding—-UNLV to an art form
can someone describe the 4 fumbles that resulted in change of possession in favor of UNLV?
Who, how, why?
One snap and clear.
I know Scott Harding and Mike Edwards lost the ball on punt and kick-off returns. The other two?
Now would be the week for UH athletic admin personel to step up the game plan.
Offer a freebie. Im not a fan of freebies cause it tends to be bad business sometimes, BUT what the hell. Offer two for one tickets for the football game OR… if they present their UC Davis stub at the ticket office on campus, they get half off for any regular season event at the SSC or Les Murakami Stadium for the 2011-2012 season.
Hey all,
Still not over Saturday’s game… How many starters do we have on D returning next year?? It seems like we have a ton of talent but need a little bit of experience…
Also, just wanted to remind you guys Greg Salas is expected to start today for the Rams against my Giants… Good Luck to Greg but here’s to the Giants pulling out the win…
I’m pretty much just a lurker on this blog and I rarely post, but I am a member of the UH band and thought I’d put in my two cents.
#51 iwwthm,
I like that idea of having a theme song for each game. Unfortunately, as with most college marching bands, vast majority of our rehearsal time is demanded by the halftime performance and very little to none goes to game-time music. Adding a new piece of music to be prepared every week (or every home game) would probably be too much of a burden for our directors and band. Nonetheless I’ll see if I can put the idea up to our directors anyway. However, I think that playing the selected theme song for each game over the sound system like UNLV did with “Don’t Stop Believing” would be more effective. Thanks for the suggestion!
#58 d1shima,
Unfortunately, being a visiting band means we didnt have the privilege of choosing where we sit. UNLV and the stadium folks in charge do. I do agree with your point though and it was frustrating for us as a band to not be able to motivate the 13,000 UH fans in attendance to unite for “D-Fence” cheers etc. without help from cheerleaders. The fact that we could only afford to bring our senior members to Vegas (about a quarter of the band) hindered our sound power as well. I noticed UNLV’s small 100 member band was microphoned and their sound carried all around the stadium. That is something we could also change at our home games to carry our sound to the parts of Aloha stadium that dont hear us well.
Thanks for the suggestions, and while I hardly post I almost always lurk 🙂 so feel free to post any more ideas should and of you feel the need and I’ll try to respond to as many as I can. The band exists to support the teams so we welcome any fan suggestions as we all want to see our Warriors succeed.
Go Warriors!!
MIH,
I think Moniz lost it once too.
@169,
I know Mo listens to BJ Penn entrance music. (Israel song) I say we should blast that as we enter the stadium… Give everyone chicken skin…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfrzjsxALFM
Anyone agree???
made –
The other two fumbles were by Moniz IIRC. Very uncharacteristic, but not surprising, considering the snap/ o-line difficulties of late.
Good job warriorbg.
win lose or draw, the band is always spot on. keep up the great work.
IWWTHM –
Did you say hello to the mini laulaus at the QB club for me?
MIH,
I know its painful to look at but someone put up highlights of the game. I think all of the fumbles are on there..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs9jt-wNYMs
warriorbg,
A friend of mine’s brother is in the drumline, plays the “quads”. Won’t say his name publically but initials are T.N.
Anyway, I liked how the drumline performed in front of Gate A during one of the wahine volleyball matches earlier. Really gave a collegiate feel, BETTER THAN PIPED IN MUSIC IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!! 😆
I think you guys were collecting cash donations to help with the UNLV trip, but you think you guys are going to do that again around basketball season just for fun?
Also, thanks for some of you showing up for softball last season, will try to see if you guys can come back again, of course if everything is ok with your folks schedules as far as concerts, academics, and other sports obligations don’t conflict during the spring!!!
Mahalo for all your hard-work!!!
The Warriors DID come out to the marching band playing the opening of Hawaii 78 back in 2008 when the band finally returned to their RIGHTFUL spot on the field playing the team out.
They played Hawaii 78 for a few bars and then went into Hawaii Five O.
Not sure why they stopped doing it after that season though.
Just a short note to say a special Mahalo to SteveM for introducing me to the Tsaikos at the UNLV game. Good to finally meet some of you – my fault since I live on the mainland. Special thanks to Rich2176 for getting us the tickets. Sitting with you guys made the game ‘bearable’. Now on to the next game, its gotta be better than this last one/two.
IWWTHM…
I see that one was Moniz on a 15 yard sack and another, also by Moniz, on a two yard scamper.
Not much one can do on all four in terms of a coaching perspective. They just happened.. Credit UNLV on some solid hits.
Kevin,
thanks for that… I never went to a game at home since then so I wouldn’t know… Been stuck in the Northeast during football season…
Also, I disagree about the band. There are some songs that just motivational, moves and inspires. When I use to play basketball I had my mix running before every game… It just got me in a certain frame of mind… I don’t think the band gives the same type of attitude… But to each his own…
http://hawaiiathletics.com/news/2011/9/19/FB_0919110050.aspx
Coach Mack’s Weekly Press Conference is up…
Heard a lot of this at the Na Koa lunch…so wanted to just clarify…
UC Davis played the UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO (Pioneer Football League)…..*NOT* San Diego State University (Mountain West Conference)
I heard at least a dozen or so people talking about how scary UC Davis must be since they beat SDSU.
Mahalo warriorbg. Maybe you folks can work with rich2176 for your game tickets next time! 😆 😈 😉
iwwthm,
Right. Harbaugh is a Former HC at USD; Brady Hoke coached at SDSU.
But still, at their former level (D2) UC-Davis had been a very successful program thru the years. Now that they are able to schollie more athletes (in FBS), the potential is there.
I hear Haku has a broken ankle.
play graves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love hings about moniz but he has some issues mentally or hes just more worried but they definitely need to win and not play favorites when moniz is not performing graves looked unreal and I already cant wait for next year;;GO WARRIORS
None of our Oline starters are healthy… all injured… Miah’s ankle still swollen…. yikes…
WarriorNY,
If the stadium had a better sound system.. even with those extra speakers it still sounded off in the distance unless someone was expecting to hear it which most of us are aware of and were waiting for the ques.
But in this case, it’s college and I think our drumline is our most dynamic part of the 250+ marching band. They have several routines not shown on TV games, but live it gets the students going.
My other beef with piped in music is the choice they use sometimes. Maybe im biased because of my age, but some of the music is so damn outdated it’s better off having the marching band play the UH fight song or “Fight for old Hawaii” over and over again. I mean.. “YMCA” WTF is that??? Seriously…
Recently, they’ve gotten better and for the arena games, they’ve utilized the new scoreboard as part of the player introductions, they’ve got a music video piece with Wahine highlights set to this upbeat song from Beyonce I think.. along the lines of “GIRLZ, WE RUN THIS MUTHA…”
So yes, piped in music can help, but for a college atmosphere I feel the live band should dominate the music.
*Na Koa Lunch* – add on
When it comes to depth of personnel on O-Line….from the horses mouth…It’s not looking that good. Really badly need some players to heal. It’s not a good situation right now. Not at all.
Loose lips sink ships
Sorry but IMO,
Moniz > Graves at this point in time.
Gotta stick with the battleship.
Hey, You’ve done a fantastic job. I’ll undoubtedly digg it and I’ll suggest to my friends. I am sure they will certainly be taken advantage of this page.
#190,
Naw it wasn’t a “tactical” thing…I mean MIH hit it on the head. People know already the O-line is hurting.
It was just confirmation today from the horses mouth.
@189..
Good point… I just feel like every school has their band. I want something unique to Hawaii… I understand what you’re saying though…
Say what you will but just don’t mention all the Wing-T looks that they’ll be practicing this week!
People need to take a step back and realize what they are looking at. Take all of Moniz’s game footage bad and good and throw in Graves’ game footage for all it is.
Then take a look at the game situation and the personel on the opposing team they face in their respective situations.
Take a step back … what happened to “it starts in the trenches???”
It’s NO coincidence that our offense is struggling and our offensive line is beat up bad. Don’t need a Na Koa Luncheon report to realize that.
Wing T?
No don’t mislead the readers, From the horses mouth again, due to the difficulties on offense we will employ Triple Option and Pro-Set for 75% of game. People wanted a runner and blocker…They gonna get both…LOL. 😛
Damn.. Salas just botched a punt return…
Salas fumbles punt return.
Salas significant playing time may soon be yanked from him. Just muffed a punt. Give em another shot coach. Go get um Salas.
We don’t have a single Oline player that isn’t playing hurt.. even some of the backups..
Time for the rope-a-dope…
Muffed punts. That’s what shortened the NFL career of another great Hawaii slotback…
WarriorNY,
If you ever have a chance to come, the arena sports do a decent job of mixing in piped in music with the live pep band.
Even for volleyball they’ve edited some music to be played in the small amount of time between points (side outs and or kills) to the next serve. It’s new, but not bad.
Plus you’ve got the living icon in the Rubberband Man and his own set theme (Mortal Combat Movie Theme from 1995).
Also, about 30 minutes prior to the first serve, the Rainbow Wahine run onto the court to a Hawaiian chant that mixes into this hip hop song “We Ready” by Archie Eversole.
D1shima,
Too True… Even Kealoha muffed punt on his first presason game… he recovered though…
It’s not just slotbacks… Ryan Mouton muffed 4? against the Jets last year…
d1shima . . . I was just thinking the same thing.
Lets go Salas . . . redemption time.
mih,
Nearing a third way into the season, that can be said of many teams.
That’s why schools pay coaches a lot of $$$; to work thru it anyway.
All of Graves passes were to the slots Stutzman and Clapp… no deep ball.. YAC made each play look even better… Jackson’s 17 yard scamper helped, too. Late in the 4th with less than 5 minutes remaining, 26 points ahead, UNLV was probably not playing their first team, too. Graves may be the future, but I don’t know if he’s ready for prime time and all the calls, just yet.
dishima….
Think we can pull someone off of Defense? the The Fence?
One snap and clear…
@203
Good to know… Unfortunately my job doesn’t allow me to have fall/winter off work to watch the game… It’s my peak season… Thanks for the 411.. Much appreciated…
Salas not even in on this series. Not good.
The Rams are dominating the line in this game… Not good my Giants…
Geez..
Salas drops a pass too… sigh…
looks like they want salas to play through it . . . they put him back there for another punt. They are showing faith in him at least.
Kev…
True… I can’t remember one dropped pass or fumble by Salas at Hawaii…
One snap and clear.
Go Warriors.
157 – right on.. Thanks!
Just off the plane, heart still sad. Here are my random thoughts on the game.
The game started so well, with (I believe) a 3 and out. Of course things 180 degrees with the Harding fumble. The sad thing is, the only reason there was a fumble in the first place is because the punter got off such a crappy kick that the ball landed short. Harding was trying to run up and make an aggressive play to either save some field position or even try to get a good return, but a football always takes weird bounces. Maybe someone with more experience doesn’t make that mistake, but I’m not down on Scott at all. It was an attempt to make a play that went awry.
People are saying the defense played horribly, but I don’t think that’s quite true. Not saying they played well all game, but after the Harding fumble, they held UNLV to a FG. That’s good. After the Edwards fumble and the first fumble by MO in the second half, the D also held UNLV to just one FG. That’s great sudden change defense. No team can expect a D to hold up on a continuing diet of sudden change of possession and a short field.
Justin Clapp obviously had a great game. Sorry it had to be in such a sad game.
I disagree with those who have said the team has no leadership. I don’t think that’s true at all. I was sitting on the 45 yard line, about ten rows behind the team bench. I’m going to single out Vaughn Meatoga in particular who kept trying to pep up the team, offense, defense and special teams, but he wasn’t the only one. I saw lots of players giving encouragement to their teammates, especially on the O-line. Richard Torres was also active in that area. Coach Tomey is also super-active.
Great post on yesterday’s blog by Kapakahi concerning our O-line woes and recruiting. There is a reason why we have seniors and freshmen with little in between. I think it’s pretty clear that Brett Leonard is by far our best O-linemen. Shigematsu was on his way too until his injury. I’ve been saying all along that I had some concerns about C. I’m also still not sure about RG and LT since I haven’t yet watched a game solely for O-line play.
Maybe more later.
boy the rams are error prone tonight
#219,
Not dismissing what you saw…but according to the horses mouth at today’s Na Koa lunch…the “pep” is very much lacking. it was enough of a concern to warrant a 5 minute discussion.
Glad fans are getting into their one snap and clear mode. For a while frustration and finger pointing permeated the blog.
Was was beginning to think…..geez people, youz actin’ like you never sat through a embarassing/humiliating loss before.
Nice tackle by Salas
Losing a football game to UNLV in LV is kinds like rolling dice at the craps table. Everybody loves you and cheers you when you’re rolling numbers and making points. As soon as you 7 out, though, look out. That’s when the biotching starts.
Not sure what that means, exactly, but the thought did occur to me as I was walking away from a table yesterday.
re: Fumbles
Big Mack stated only 1 fumble as being “somewhat understandable” on the kickoff. Still however he stressed “NO excuses” and that players NEED TO SECURE THE BALL because that is their responsibility.
#222 left out j/k.
#224,
As Coach Holtz would say…”its about what you are doing for me now, not what you did for me before…”
WTF moment of the night for me personally was at the end of the game when some drunken UNLV fan slurs out, “It’s gonna be a long bus ride home, Hawaii.” Moron.
Looking for games roger.levy@gmail.com
Very Nice Return by Salas!
Pretty nice return by Salas.
GO SALAS!
(that one entitles him to a little smack!)
Thanks for the updates Mr. Tsai.
btw, in case no one mentioned it, Hadden’s KO’s were nice to see.
LT in the house!
Guard the young girls and account for all the straws!
Hope they wipe off the balls at halftime. (the footballs!)
“Vince Wilfork…always confused with Ty Law” 😆
One snap and clear.
Good evening!
Finally made it home.
Fun times on the road with fellow Tsai-kos!
Thank you to RB and Rich for all of your work to make this past weekend most memorable.
Strongly suggest pre-paid or no-count next time. Kind of ridiculous for others not to have financial liability when plans and reservations are made on their word. So much for their good word!
L-Oki (sometime poster but mostly lurker?) . . .
You know we were not serious about your “job” in certain situations at the game.
. . . maybe . . .
Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
wafan…
Or at least get a 50% deposit so that it would be easy to sell those unclaimed tickets.
Back to the mines tomorrow.
Nytal!
“One snap and clear.”
I have faith in the Warriors!!
Nah .. charge 100% and refund 90% if resold due to cancellation.. 0% if unable to resell. All cancellations get an averaged refund, if any.
mih . . .
Nah. Let them eat the entire price.
And if they are going to monku about the price of the shuttle let them drive and park (~$10) their own car.
Okay, nytal . . .
really, this time.
Since face-guarding isn’t illegal in college per Stephen and others, UH defensive backs should perfect it . Keep up with the receivers, and when they see the receiver going for the ball, they should wave their hands in front of the receiver’s face mask so the receiver can’t see the ball good. They seem to be doing part of it because they don’t look back much when they cover the receivers.
The Offense should have some outlet pass for when the rush is on Moniz.
All the prognosticators including radio people had the UH having a laugher vs. UNLV. Everyone was feeling sorry for UNLV. The “Who has the Edge” analysis in the Star Advertiser on Saturday had UH as having the edge on everything. Explain how UH was given the edge at Running Back & Wide Receiver to start with ?
rainbowfan,
explain to me why UNLV should have the WR edge to start with.
I think Salas forgot one of the most important skills advocated by June Jones, catch the ball with his hands.
Muffed punt off his chest, too many drop passes, and with 7 minutes to go he drops another one bouncing off of his chest, yup, it was low but he was down and in position to make the catch.
Announcers keep on mentioning that he is a rookie out of Hawaii and as a rookie, he needs to make those catches to stick with the team.
Payne!
6’3 Payne on Tank!
#252,
And where was Payne against Wassu and Wisconsin?
observing his quarterback looking at the clouds float by!
wafan, you’re right. As the person who had the 5 people in their party cancel the bus (going from 7 to 2), I should pay the full price instead of just for 4. And since, I only have my word, who can I send the balance to? SteveM, can you send me Las Vegas’ address so I can send him a check.
Thanks!
#255,
lol!
You give Payne too much credit..
UNLV 3 pts.. FG-Nolan
UNLV TD … Cornett rush 80
UNLV TD … Payne 6 yd
UNLV TD … Payne 33 yd
UNLV TD … Cornett 1 yd rush… ( only one pass completed to Payne to UH 33.. penalties moved the ball for UNLV on this drive)
UNLV TD … Randal, Bradley rush…
Payne had 7 catches for 98… not stellar.. but he did have two TDs. The rest of the game, he only had 5 completions.
Justin Clapp answered with 9 for 83 and two TDs, too.
Unfortunately the rest of the Warrior team didn’t answer back and contribute in points….
BUT Cornett had two rushing TDs, too…
No one person lost this game. There were a lot of contributors for the poor showing.. and a few contributors for points and stops. Tank made a number of very good solo stops, too.
While it’s great that people have passion for UH sports, especially football, this is a family blog and swearing will not be tolerated.
Also, we live in a civilized society, and we don’t request “face to face” challenges to resolve debates.
I understand the emotions (and lost wages/wagers) of the past weekend, but in the end, we all must live aloha. Anyway, clean slate, people.
In last year’s Colorado game, it was “we weren’t expecting the no huddle, ” in this year’s Washington game, it was “we weren’t expecting them to pass right away”, in last year’s Boise game it was they were too tricky ? In the UNLV game, it was we weren’t expecting them to recover so many fumbles ?
i was intoxicated the entire game. even though it was a very rough game for the Warriors, i held my head up high as i walked out of the stadium. mostly because i didn’t wanna palu and make shame. still had a blast though! awesome meeting everyone at sato-ya!
madeinhawaii –
Don’t forget, Coach Mack Show coming up at 6:30. 🙂
LAS-PDX bound. Tough loss but pretty optimistic still on the season. All the other team has a bullseye on Tanks back. I’d like to see tank fight this adversity. A pick-six would be the perfect remedy and a statement for other teams.
DPK… mahalo.. but I caught it last night… Coach Mack didn’t have much to say on his own show…
I’d take the 2 TD any day, any thing else is just statistics, points wins game.
DPK…
and he didn’t add anything to what he already said in the replay, too. 😉
Clapp did an awesome job, I understand he has good work ethos like his dad, puts in the time to do the job right and keeps on trucking. His coaches at De Lasalle trained him well.
week 3’s opponent’s results
http://www.sportshawaii.com/sh/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39846
sila is a liability at center, its time to give london a shot, after all he does have the bloodline. change #1 should be starting kawika in place of tank hopkins, let hopkins see how to defend the ball. surprised it took the coaches nearly a month to make the change. 5 td’s given up by tank, whose team is he really playing for?
Ready for the Warrior rebound on Saturday, will be in the house as usual supporting.
Already listed my comments after the game and very interested in the personnel changes mentioned in the subject line. Got to trust the coaches, they are the key to success of the rebound. Just hoping that a certain player that has not shown up to play for 3 straight weeks now will not have a 4th to disappoint.
It’s important to win this week, but some cards need to be held until next week so Tech won’t see them on film.
I saw you many articles, want to know you! Can?
lyndel ,
Judging from last year and before, Kawika is not much of the answer . Maybe he got in the UNLV game because Tank was shaken up ? When Kawika got in, he was called for pass interference. He is the type of pass defender, that doesn’t turn around to look at the ball.
Salas did fumble twice – but he also gained 29 yards on 2 punts that he caught plus catching 4 passes. So while he didn’t have a perfect game, he did OK.
One snap and clear
I??¥m still studying from you, but I??¥m improving myself. I certainly adore studying every single portion that is written in your blog.Hold the tales coming. I liked it!
i think you need to change you post style. nice to see this post. thanks.
My personal feeling off course…but why would coming back between games be better than just staying up on the mainland?
For me the actual travel (packing, airport, plane flight, etc) is the tiring part.
Coming back would force them to make 2 long flights instead of 1.
Instead I would have liked to see Colorado, @UW, UC-Davis, @UNLV or Away-H-H-Away or ….That to me seems a little be more balanced…
I just don’t see coming back home and having to deal with 2 flights making that much of a difference.
#275 . . . I appreciate your positive take, but reality is Salas had a rough outing tonight. Not the kind of game that will get him much playing time in the future. In the NFL you have to sieze these types of opportunities. I know he can bounce back from tonight, you just hope he is given the opportunity.
I agree with #219 WarriorMojo:
“…after the Harding fumble, they held UNLV to a FG. That’s good. After the Edwards fumble and the first fumble by MO in the second half, the D also held UNLV to just one FG. That’s great sudden change defense.”
234…2000 ft elevation is a kicker’s best friend.
Great post mate!
Got back to HNL this afternoon and fell asleep without unpacking. Long and fun weekend meeting a lot Tsai-kos from the mainland and neighbor islands. Tsaiko-Vegas is truly a a national Tsai-ko tailgate and Cattle/Karaoke Call!
iwwthm,
I suppose when you’re camping out with your teammates it gets to be a bit too distracting after a week. You can’t see your girlfriend.. your family… your other classmates and friends. You can’t eat home-cooked meals or meals that you are accustomed to. You miss class time so you need to self-study which for many subjects makes it that much harder.. and you then stress over your academics. I suppose it can get really boring and dull your senses if you are on curfew and have strict restrictions on what you can and cannot do.. go or cannot go, too. Everything becomes work and a chore without a break. It’ss pretty hard to deal with day in and day out living with a chaperone.
This is a terrific web page, would you be involved in doing an interview about how you created it? If so e-mail me!
One snap and clear…. if I win, I’ll give it to someone who needs it…
Haven’t watched the game yet.
Go WARRIORS!!!
48 hours almost over…Can’t wait to get it on with UC Davis!
Go Warriors!
I voted …
One snap and clear.
Good night all!
Much appreciated for the information and share!
Great Tuesday to all!
Back to school. Tsigh.
Weekend went by waaaaaay to quickly.
Good news about Miah’s foot.
Definitely need him on the field!
Surrounded by super UNLV fans this past Saturday. Clever, non-abusive, no booze induced cheers, too!
There were a few Hawai’i “fans” (titas) who were definitely drunk. No shame. But I guess when one is that intoxicated.
Embarrassment to themselves, their families . . .
Good to see (almost) the band. If not for the dancing Sousaphones would have missed them. That huge opening to their right did not help their sound production.
And, the Rebel band cheated! They were mic’d. Albeit badly.
UW had a sparate pickup alum band in the endzone a few sections from us. They would play along with their regular band.
Ronnie disregard sending any money to me.
1. You did offer to pay for all seven, I refused and only took for 4
(all used by you and Rob25 etc)
2. We had 8 last minute add ons
3. Kekoa donated $10 and lizKauai $5 extra
I was able to pay for the busses and tip the drivers AND had $15 left over
which bought Rich and myself each a beer at the game

Rasu ~ You were magnificent!
Many thanks from me and my roomie for being such a gracious host.
Btw, we enjoyed listening to the ‘regular’ Sato Ya Singers…as they were easy on the eyes as well. How do you manage to surround yourself with such a bevy of beauties?!
Yes indeed, a good time was had by all!
Mahalo, again, Tsai-kos who came with omiyage in their hearts and hands and left LAS richer for the experience.
GO WARRIORS!!!
PS. Mahalo, again, rasu, for taking such good care of us. You are the host with the most and true Tsai-ko ambassador in the 9th island!
Mahalo to d1 for sacrificing Tower of Power for the KKall and sharing his voice with us. ( and picking me up at the airport!)
Big mahalo to wafan and izzy for showing us how the other guys live and eat… Bwahaha! And for letting me hang out with them, coughs, horsey voice and all…
Mahalo, UKU from LA for bringing the georgeous TI LEAVES!
Thanks to everyone who SHOWED UP!
Everyone did their part to make the Travelling Tsai-ko show a memorable and friendly one!
ST & Tsaiko Blog Dogs:
Mucho thanks to Rasu and SteveM for the karaoke at Sato-ya. Had to leave early as the sleep deprivation was getting to us. Enjoyed meeting the other Tsaiko Blog Dogs and putting face to name. Hope to see Rasu at Genji’s again soon. The game?….frankly, it stunk! But the experience was fun.
Go Warriors!
Mornin’ All –
Finally recovered from the weekend. Drove home yesterday and was thinking about all the good souls and hearts I had the honor of spending the weekend with. Just too many people to thank for their generousity.
First & formost – Rasu for his tireless efforts to run everything so smoothly. Thanks to the A-Houses for the gifts. Thanks to brew808 for making me feel like a VIP at the RIO. (That guy knows all the right people – bartenders!!)
It was great seeing everyone at Sato-Ya and listening to their singing. Midnight has such a silky, crooner voice. D1, Rasu, et al…you guys amaze me. Was great talking story w Kekoa and Diana, LizK, ST, Stretch, PowderPuff, SteveM, etc.
At the tailgate, I met Pride’s brother who drove up from San Diego with some friends. No, he’s not nearly as large as Pride. Also, good seeing 99club, Garret & family, Ronnie & ohana, Rob25 and others I didn’t see Friday night.
Amazing! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a completely different subject but it has pretty much the same layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!
And a huge mahalo to UKU for the ti leaves!
So, I decided to watch some of the game that I DVR’d. In the opening, the announcers showed the recap of the Warriors giving up the last TD in the 2009 game which lead to the UNLV victory. I won’t name the defender on that play. I really feel for him ‘cuz I know he gives an all-out effort every game and misses making big plays by inches.
Well, let’s see how the Warriors regroup this Saturday!!
For those with DirecTV, the UNLV is being replayed today on MTN616 11:00 a.m. PST.
Hawaii vs LaTech will be 10/1 at 4:00 p.m. PST on CH640.
Thanks, again, rich2176!
And Brew808- man of mystery… You know all the teasing the other night was rasu, right? I would NEVER do that on my own… (just wanted to come clean in case a piece of space junk falls on my head.)

“Most of the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (or UARS) will burn up as the spacecraft plunges into the lower atmosphere, but some pieces may survive and strike the ground nearly anywhere between 57 north latitude and 57 south latitude. That’s pretty much anywhere on the continents and oceans. Antarctica appears to be safe.”
Good morning, gang!
Sounds like it was a lot of work & organizing, and everyone had a good time in LV. rich2176 & Rasu Begasu, mahalo for the work you do to get this put together.
ST ~ Practice today at 7?
Agent 99 (Brew808) ~

I do love the way you have presented this specific concern and it does indeed provide me a lot of fodder for consideration. On the other hand, through what precisely I have personally seen, I just hope when other remarks pile on that individuals keep on issue and in no way start upon a tirade involving the news of the day. Yet, thank you for this excellent point and whilst I can not really agree with this in totality, I regard your perspective.

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say that you’ve done a superb job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very quick for me on Firefox. Superb Blog!
Hi, this is a very good blog. Although i don’t get everything of what your saying, i still enjoyed reading it. Maybe you will write something more on this subject in the future?
I thought the title, “The Warrior Beat | Back to business | UH football, University of Hawaii athletics | staradvertiser.com | Honolulu, Hawaii” was a bit misleading. However, the content did not disappoint!
Love this post! I was thinking the exact same thing!! Leave a comment on my blog too if you get a chance, it has some similar information on it!
Wow, amazing blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you made running a blog look easy. The whole look of your site is fantastic, as smartly as the content!
Fairly informative publish. Never imagined that it was this easy following all. I’d spent of my own time trying to find a person to describe this topic evidently and you are the only one that actually do that.
