Australian punter to join Warriors

Alex Dunnachie, a punter from Australia, said he has accepted a football scholarship from the Warriors.
Dunnachie, who is 6 feet 2 and 220 pouinds, is one of the top punters at the Ray Guy Academy for punters, kickers and long-snappers.
Dunnachie said he “consistently hit it 65, 70 yards.”
Rick Sang, co-founder of the Ray Guy Academy, said Dunnachie has had several punts with hang times in excess of 5 seconds.
“He has natural power,” Sang said. “He looks like a college tight end.”
Dunnachie said he has never played American football. But he has a played Australian Rules Football, which emphasizing kicking, since he was 5.
“We kick it end over end, back spin, spirals,” Dunnachie said.
As for choosing UH, Dunnachie said: “This place is paradise.”
UH has reserved one more scholarship.

Running back John Lister, who signed earlier this month, is expected to gray shirt.

* * *

The Warriors will have an ample number of running backs this year, even if Daniel Libre does not earn a sixth season. Alex Green and Chizzy Dimude join the team in May. Leon Wright-Jackson will be back for his senior season. And although Kealoha Pilares (slotback) and Jake Heun (rush end) are candidates to move to other positions, UH is not yet ready to release them from running back duties.  And don’t forget Inoke Funaki.

* * *

Bryant Moniz will be given a serious look at quarterback this spring. He’s down on the depth chart — Greg Alexander, Brent Rausch and Shane Austin enter 1-2-3 —  but he’s displayed good arm strength and footwork in unsupervised drills.

* * *

Wednesday’s Super Games event is tentatively scheduled for water polo. If that’s not possible — and there are scheduling concerns — then it’s tug-o-war.

* * *

The past Thursday, for the first time in more than 15 years, the UH cheerleaders performed at a Warrior volleyball match.

    any hints on who we are targeting for the last scholie? or are the coaches going to wait a few months for a lemarcus gibson type.

  3. bighilofan2 February 28, 2009 7:04 am

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

  4. Stephen Tsai February 28, 2009 7:10 am

    UH is bringing in a couple of good walk-ons, but I don’t think those players will be converted to scholarship guys.

  5. cheepono February 28, 2009 7:11 am

    Good morning to all!

    Anyone receive free acupuncture treatments or is in need of a podiatrist after last evening DC? Hope all had a grand time!

    Off to track today…

  7. NYUH February 28, 2009 7:15 am

    Great news on the punter. Oz is an “easy” 10 hour flight and loaded with good athletes. With new media they are slowing “escaping” from the capture of the commonwealth sports: rugby and cricket.

  8. CharlieBucket February 28, 2009 7:15 am

    Scholie Akoni Lasconia LB from Saddleback JC. Kid is a leader and a tough as nails ballah.

  9. JaM February 28, 2009 7:16 am

    Hey first time top 10

  10. brew808 February 28, 2009 7:22 am

    ~~~•~~~~•~~Good..Morning..Tsaikos..and..Warrior..Nation!!!~~•~~~~•~~~
    …or maybe I should say, G’day Mates! 😀 😯 😆
    Okay, I’ll ask the obvious… How does Alex Dunnachie’s academic/enrollment situation compare to that of Jessie Williams? We really want to see both blokes wearing green & black. 😀
  11. JaM February 28, 2009 7:27 am
    Wafan:
    From yesterday…(don’t know how to quote properly.)
    “Please consider changing your assignments and assessments to project based with a clear-cut ruberic”
    This is what Maryknoll does under Essential Schools. I believe it is a great way to teach/learn. However, must also be able to provide opportunity to take multiple choice type tests. Lack of opportunity or practice in test taking was a hindrance for my #1 when she moved on to college.
  12. JaM February 28, 2009 7:29 am
    Welcome Alex Dunnachie to the Warrior Ohana!
    How do you pronounce the last name? Anyone?
  13. letsgowarriors February 28, 2009 7:29 am
    sounds good. are these walkons from Hawaii or the mainland?
  14. bighilofan2 February 28, 2009 7:40 am
    G’day Mayteez. 😀
    so how come we get dis Aussie and not da odda Aussie? maybe we spoke too soon? gotta get em in class and den announce day going play ball? gotta make back door on our own compliance girl?
    just a thought. hi ho hi ho.
    have a great day Warriors.
  15. Kazz (blkberry_storm) February 28, 2009 7:46 am
    Alex Dunnachie.
    I’m saying “do nah kee” like “Funaki”. Is that how its pronounced?
  16. Kazz (blkberry_storm) February 28, 2009 7:48 am
    Oh wait… is Dunnachie pronounced “dunn aki”? This seems to make more sense.
  17. las vegas February 28, 2009 7:53 am
    Salutations!, Tsai-Ko nation!
  18. Pomai February 28, 2009 7:54 am
    With a hang time of 4.5 to 5 seconds we should have plenty of “downed inside the 1 yard line”.
  19. brew808 February 28, 2009 7:56 am
    Howdy las vegas!!! Did you see the messages or get contacted by 702WN regarding a mini_CC in LV with Garret & Momo & families? I think there’s more info posted on the SteveM news-board. 😆
  20. brew808 February 28, 2009 8:00 am
    Ideally, Alex Dunnachie gets to warm up but never gets any punt attempts during the game (IMHO) –> make like the Maytag Repair Man! It’s always great to have that booming thunder-punt to save your ‘okole! 😀
  21. brew808 February 28, 2009 8:02 am
    Are drop-kicks allowed in American Football? It might be nice to have booming 65 yd, 5 sec. hang-time kick-offs…. 😯 😀
  22. chawan_cut February 28, 2009 8:13 am
    scheduling concerns?
    is the cancer HF back? don’t say its so!
    heh.
  23. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 8:17 am
    Aloha Kakahiaka!
  24. Stephen Tsai February 28, 2009 8:17 am
    Lasconia is not enrolled at UH yet.
  25. las vegas February 28, 2009 8:27 am
    Hey Brew,
    Negatory on that story, but will check
  26. Stephen Tsai February 28, 2009 8:33 am
    brew:
    Interesting point, because, at the moment, I don’t believe UH has somebody who can kick off.
  27. madeinhawaii February 28, 2009 8:34 am
    G’day mates!
    65 TO 70 YARDS!
    Doesn’t that mean that on 4 and long at the 50, if he drop kicks it over the goal posts we get 3 points?
  28. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 8:34 am
    brew808- What I want to see is what happens to the punt returner should he make it as far as the kicker!
  29. brew808 February 28, 2009 8:39 am
    Whoahh…Liz_K….I think I understand what you’re saying…. maybe…. 😆
    IMHO – zero punts, but lots and lots of kick-offs! 😆
  30. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 8:39 am
    Good morning gang….whew…still trying to get up but have lots of work to do today…..LOL
    Great to hear we’re getting what appears to be a great punter…remember some dude named Matt McBriar??? ….Welcome to the Warrior Ohana Alex Dunnachie…..
    No mommies or homey on yet eh??? Guess I may have to go do some recon on the pink side….LMAO
  31. brew808 February 28, 2009 8:41 am
    Re: #25 – las vegas – There will be 3 generations of Momo’s that will out eat you at a local buffet! 😯
  32. Da Punchbowl Kid February 28, 2009 8:44 am
    Good morning all! 🙂
    65 yards? 5 second hang times? Krikeys!!! How many seasons would he stick around before “fielding” (pardon the pun) NFL offers?
    He sounds like a great get! Coach Mac has the recruitin’ skills, thass fer sure.
  33. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 8:47 am
    brew…as far as I know, drop kicks are still allowed in American Football…..LOL
  34. las vegas February 28, 2009 8:47 am
    Thanx Brew,
    Found an e-mail from 702WN in one of my less used e-mail accounts
  35. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 8:50 am
    brew- “He has natural power,” Sang said. “He looks like a college tight end.”
    I just had a flashback to the first time we saw Greg Alexander and after a universal sharp intake of breath, said “quarterback”??? Here’s to the Power Guys! (not powderpuffs… bwahahaha!)
  36. kaimiloa February 28, 2009 8:54 am
    Brew…. Unless the rules have changed in the past couple of years, you can drop kick the ball through the uprights from anywhere on the field for points (I think 1 or 2 points). Even during the flow of play.
  37. brew808 February 28, 2009 8:57 am
    😀 – okay, okay…. almost sounds like a comment from a previous Tsaiko blogger…. 😆
    DPK – loved your “Wo Fat Rat” story of the other day! 😆
    (J)J – can you imagine the free air-time the Warriors would get having the only drop-kicker around? 😯
  38. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:01 am
    kaimiloa – Aloha! I wasn’t even thinking about FG points – just kick-offs. Okay…. that works too! That opens up two places on the travel roster – no need for the place-kicker, and no need for the spotter/holder! 😀 😯 😆
    And…. free publicity and future recruiting avenues for UH kickers! 😯 😀
  39. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:05 am
    Did you see that BHF2 (#14) and I had very similar posts and questions? Yikes…. somebody whack me when I start posting in pidgin and pontificating like an attorney!!! 😀 😯 😆
  40. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:08 am
    Dang! Where’s jm2or3or75? It looks like her Hoyas finally got through the alphabet to find the letter W! 😯 😈 🙄
  41. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:10 am
    Sorry gang…. I don’t mean to hog the blog…. It’s rare that I have time, plus I’m trying a special kope blend this AM… seems to be finally kicking in!
    I wonder where Colomaohana…or Big C is at today….??? She must have gone to the mommy thing at Kahala Mall. Anyways, I wanted to ask her about some financial stuff and whether or not I was compliant with all my paperwork….LOL….eh, Stretch, c’mon, you gotta jump on that one….LMAO
    Oh, and BTW, for all those interested….Aunty Tital Leadfoot was in fine form last night….probably went through about 100 flights…..MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA j/k my sistah…..from Lihue…
  51. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 9:43 am
    Haha, Frank, I was just going to ask if there were any side trips to the ER last night!
  52. WarriorMojo February 28, 2009 9:44 am
    Jeez, is there anything LAMER than ticketmaster? Up bright and early to get Journey tickets. Now, I’ve had a ticketmaster account forever, maybe fourteen or fifteen years. I remember days when if you wanted tickets for a concert in LA or SF that didn’t go on sale until 9:00 a.m. in California all you had to do was call any ticketmaster outline in an earlier timezone, and voila! tickets on sale! How dumb was that?!
    Anyway, I’m in for two tickets this morning. I slam through the security check screens like the mother of all tornadoes. So what seats am I offered less than eight seconds after tickets supposedly go onsale? Section F, side risers! That’s not a bad seat at all, but there is NO way the AA-CC sections could have been gone already. Not possible.
    So I give up those tickets and try again. I get section T, which kind of does suck. Try again and I’m now upstairs! So I’m thinking “Holy, Steve Perry!” The whole floor sold out in about two minutes. Way? No way! I try again and I’m offered CC, row 9. That’s nine rows back from stage right. Seriously, how lame is that?
  53. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:44 am
    Re: #44 jm2.3.4.6.7.5 – TMI!!! 😯 You were scary enough before. Now I picture drips too! YIKES! 😯 😯 😯
  54. Frank25 February 28, 2009 9:44 am
    (Jesse) James:
    wassup back to you…so how did you do….did you folks play partners…who was the winners?
  55. jm2375 February 28, 2009 9:46 am
  57. FloridaTed February 28, 2009 9:48 am
    My-o-my, a great special teams coach, a great punter…. Might we end up with a special, special team? Lol.
  58. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 9:50 am
  59. Cindy/Cenn February 28, 2009 9:50 am
    Good morning, Gang! Glad everyone had fun at the DC. And me, so happy that I have my Journey tickets for the 25th! Liz, great pics! JJ, isn’t Big C one of the nicest people you have ever met.
  60. Frank25 February 28, 2009 9:50 am
    brew808:
    wassup…hows it going….
  61. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 9:52 am
    Frank…nah, I didn’t play…just had pupus and beer and enjoyed the good company (and fun)….
    I think Rob and Koakane won a game….and she and Aunty Tita Leadfoot almost won one….but not sure about that one because the darts were just a blur as they shattered the board…..LMAO
  62. Cindy/Cenn February 28, 2009 9:52 am
    Frank25..mahalo for all that you do for us. I have a s-i-l at FB Brassf. and another family member is leaving for C Victory. Come home soon!
  67. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:56 am
    It’s probably just me… but whenever I see Cindy/Cenn post, I’m reading…. “Sin/Sense”! 🙄 😈 😀
  68. al ™ February 28, 2009 9:57 am
    aussie football has one or two points for drop kicks. in american football it would be a field goal or 3 pts. the drop kick is definitely a lost art.
    meanwhile, nice pick up. a great punter is always needed. did matt macbriar have anything to do with this recruitment?
  69. brew808 February 28, 2009 9:59 am
    Cinn/Cenny – Congrats on your Journey tix! Did you have as much trouble getting them as W-Mojo? Nah…. you’re probably not as high-maintenance as that Tsaiko! 😀 😯 😆
  70. WarriorMojo February 28, 2009 9:59 am
    Liz, true dat… especially since it now appears that the second concert is also sold out. Amazing.
    Liz, always meant to ask you, are you familiar with Seals and Crofts? If so, did their music reflect a lot of Bahai tenets?
  71. Frank25 February 28, 2009 10:00 am
    Cindy/Cenn:
    thank you for the thanks…be back home for some vacation in may….then for good in aug…..
    (Jesse) James:
    what happen to Uhfan808…..
  72. al ™ February 28, 2009 10:00 am
    Stephen Tsai:
    Lasconia is not enrolled at UH yet.
    by that i assume that you mean he will eventually either as an invited walkon or late scholie pickup.
    what about that dtackle in northern california? better grab him before sjsu does. he would definitely fill a need.
  73. WarriorMojo February 28, 2009 10:01 am
    Ouch, brew, exactly what is in that new coffee blend? I mean, please don’t forget the “tincture of tenderness” okay? LOL
  74. al ™ February 28, 2009 10:04 am
    kick offs?
    what about icecube?
    or
    isn’t kevin bell gonna walkon this fall?
    then again a guy who can punt 65-70 yards might be able to send kickoffs to the back of the end zone.
    when was the last time we had a punter/kicker on the team?
    jason elam?
  75. SteveM February 28, 2009 10:04 am
    Good morning everyone!
    Exciting news about punter Alex Dunnachie! Fires up the imagination and possibilities!
  76. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:05 am
    Yes, agreeing w/ al-ski (again)….. I’m very curious to know the recruiting path/connections bringing “BigFooty” Alex Dunnachie to Manoa. 😯
    Here’s a YouTube of the BigFooty in action- (Kind of hard to judge anything from a video….) 😀
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFdb-nwsASE
  77. Cindy/Cenn February 28, 2009 10:05 am
    Brew… it was very easy to get them online. Still get, I think. The 26th concert sold out in 2 hours.
    lol JJ.
  78. WarriorMojo February 28, 2009 10:07 am
    Back on topic, as an Aussie Rules guy, Alex should be great at those line drive running punts away from the returner. I think we’re going to be seeing that more and more in football.
  79. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:08 am
    “tincture of tenderness” – Huh? Do consumer rights advocates know anything about that? Yeah, that’s probably their first thought whenever they hear a siren…. 😆 😈 😯
  80. WarriorMojo February 28, 2009 10:08 am
    Cindy/Cenn, second night is sold out too, apparently. Either that or I’ve been banned, LOL. What section are your seats?
  81. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:10 am
    BTW …. what happened to the “andGreg” tag? Seems to come and go depending on the weather…. 😆
  82. Da Punchbowl Kid February 28, 2009 10:11 am
    Hey Frank! Hope you’re all keepin’ the shiny side up over there. Tell your commander that his Uncle Tim sez howzit and that my son and I had a blast watchin’ his kids kick butt at a Judo Tournament last weekend. Stay safe please, all of you!
  83. al ™ February 28, 2009 10:14 am
    brewski….i am enjoying your online observations throughout the morning. must have had some mean espresso or something.
  84. SteveM February 28, 2009 10:16 am
    😯 Hmmmm…tomorrow is March already…
    UH-UNLV Game Tickets for Tsai-kos
    Rich2176 has been busy but will be turning his attention to negotiating and purchasing a block of game tickets soon, as he did in 2007. Of course, he needs to know how many.
    He will be providing Tsai-kos with tickets at cost, so an initial minimum count is requested. So– whether you request via the survey or email him directly, please do so soon.
    When he is ready, I will turn over the collected survey request data to Rich2176. At that point, confirmation emails, payment, and arrangements are strictly between you and Rich2176.
    The survey is at:
    http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2b0TEhRn0xTX82JQRdJ2gyQ_3d_3d
    The survey also collects requests for las vegas’ buffet restaurant tailgate and optional buses. Also Friday night Cattle Call interest and hotel location info–so you can see who else might be staying at your hotel. 🙂
  85. FloridaTed February 28, 2009 10:17 am
    Australian punters are not afraid to tackle, especially at 6’2′ and 225 p.
  86. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:21 am
    FT…that’s true…as the Rock used to say…he could “Layeth the smacketh downeth….”
    Hi ya..I will tell him that….been really windy…sand storms….
  88. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:22 am
    SteveM – There’s something freaky about replying to your “surveymonkey.com” surveys. Oooo oooo ooooohh….. almost feel like DPK! 😯 😆 🙄
  89. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:23 am
    Frank…she was there…I think her and Addahknowjoe bet Rob and KK in a game…although I think KK forgot to push the button changing players on a couple of occassions so the scores were all screwed up….LOL
    She was there though…although, you know her, sooooooo quiet…..not like Rob….oh, wait, was I not supposed to say that…MWAAHAAHHAHAHA
  90. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:25 am
    brew…OH NO!!!! Don’t reignite DPK’s memory of the monkey….LOL
  91. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 10:28 am
    Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
    Just thought I’d check in (and check to see what Jamesie is saying about me). I know he cannot not say anything. Sure enough…. and Jamesie, just for the record, I went through more tips than flights. And next time, I going bring pliers, ’cause I know where I lost the tips.
  92. SteveM February 28, 2009 10:31 am
    brew808 — know what’s freaky? …I am to verify Tsai-ko requests and provide real names when possible. Yours has a lot of blanks 😛 Good thing Rich2176 has your number from 2007!
    MsLiz,
    Very cool that Ukuleleboi & his band won & are going to compete. Now that I know where Pipeline Cafe is, I might show up. On a different note: you would have sung along to “Toreador…” It was grand.
    Welcome Alex Dunnachie!
    Mahalo Midori7 for instigating last nites shindig.
    Addah know who started that rumor Tsaikos no buy drinkie. Dey only eat. Obviously they haven’t attended one of these informal Tsaiko malFunctions. Good thing Koakane carried the weight of the crew last night. He was chuggin’ straight from pitchers of beer strategically stationed and refilled on various tables throughout the establishment as he roamed and caroused with the evening crowd.
    James- you got your call from KK dis morning? He was looking for his darts from last night. But den he found ‘um.
  97. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 10:37 am
    Jamesie,
    My reply to that is “Hi, my name is ‘Sports and I’m legal”. Bwahahahaha.
  98. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:38 am
    Addahknowsports© – Howzit girl!?! Did you say you’re “tipsy” – and “losing it”? 😯 😆 🙄
  99. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:41 am
    #92 – SteveM – When you find out – please let me know…. 😆 😯 😀
  100. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 10:41 am
    Hiya Brew,
    Long time no hear! As far as being “tipsy”, yes and no. My iced tea kept me as straight as Powderpuffs tips.
  101. addahknowjoe February 28, 2009 10:41 am
    Howzit Frank-
    How come you neva warned us Rob25 is a sandbagger in darts. She unreal! She can hunt down a Yak with her deadly skillz! Good ting she eased up and gave us chance last night.
  102. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:43 am
    A-joe – You cheering for Konawaena too? 😆
  103. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:45 am
    cheering –> celebrating their W 😀
  104. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 10:46 am
    Nah, Jamesie,
    Next time we play, I going get tips like Koakane’s. Shorter and thicker at the base. 🙂
  105. Frank25 February 28, 2009 10:48 am
    addahknowjoe:
    Howzit my bradda…..rob play darts? i dont know…..
  106. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:49 am
    Addahknowsports© – You know, this discussion is highly provocative…. for an occasional viewer or a clueless lurker…. 😯 😆 😈
  107. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:51 am
    Frank – You should know…. rob25 is an expert “throwing darts”, whether she uses those pointed/feathered projectiles or not…. 😀 😯 😆
  108. addahknowjoe February 28, 2009 10:51 am
    brew All the outer island teams, I gotta back ’em. Especially Konawaena. Az my family’s Alma Mater.
    Powderpuff Thank you Nui Loa for sharing your Kaiser Alumni issued Majik Darts. That set made Errybody look like they trow darts all their lives.
  109. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 10:53 am
    Frank,
    Rob is awesome at darts! I think at some point she was letting people catch up. She started out as a relief darter, but then somehow she took over and finished the job while everyone finished their drinks. I think we took a picture of a wicked bullseye she made.
  110. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:53 am
    ….before I forget…. question for ST
    Are all these line-up changing on the kane MVB team, due to Hunt’s injury or because Wilton wants to find the right combination/chemistry for the Warriors? 😕
  111. Wayne Ol February 28, 2009 10:55 am
    Whoa! Not so fast my friend! Maybe he can punt, but can he catch the snap. You know, “his hands”. Since he hasn’t played American football we have to wait and see if he’s any good. Can he angle punt and his the corners? Can he scramble or throw the ball in case something goes wrong, like fumbling the snap or drop it? There are a lot of things go into a good punter. I reserve judgment until I see this guy in action. Will he be here for the spring or fall camp?
    There have been too many glowing reports in their press clippings, but many times did not materialize. i.e. George Ornellas, and that RB kid from Virginia, Pearson, and that kid from Corona, CA who June Jones said was the second coming of Barry Sanders. What happend to George Lauwalu from Waianae? Didn’t he commit to UH?
  112. brew808 February 28, 2009 10:57 am
    Rob is … a relief darter, …. she took over and finished …. everyone …. drinks. … we took a picture of a wicked bull … she made.
    😆 😯 😀
  113. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:57 am
    Sports….I am not that kind of a guy…totally innocent and I don’t know what you are referring too….just ask Powderpuff…I was only talking about nicey-nicey things…after all, I’m a good Catholic boy….
    ….but than again…I have the option of confession…..MWAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA
  114. A-House February 28, 2009 10:58 am
    Big Congrats to Konawena and Molokai for winning the State Div 1 and Div II basketball championships last night.
    Good reason for UH coaches to remember that “outside island” get GOOD players too!!! Footooball and baseoball also!!!!!
  115. Jason February 28, 2009 10:58 am
    Hey, Lee Corso is on the blog. 😀
    With all this talk about darts, I’m starting to feel like I’m on pins and needles. 😉
  116. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:58 am
    A-Joe…no call from KK this morning….I tink his phone broken…da ting only take pictures….
    I wonder if IWWTHM and his jogging friend made it home okay???
  117. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 10:59 am
    and don’t worry ST…I was defending you against all those people saying your wear lacey underwear last night because you never showed up…..LMAO…..
  118. brew808 February 28, 2009 11:00 am
    Another thought/question: If a punter can boom kicks 65-70 yards, is there any rule that says he has to stand 12yds back to kick? Why not 15-20? That gives him more time and still a 50 yd average. And… are Aussie “yards” the same as Yankee “yards”? 😯 🙄
    Pretty provocative thoughts for this lazy Saturday huh? 😀 😯 😆
  119. A-House February 28, 2009 11:02 am
    ST, good neighbor:
    So, your duties also includes bringing in the trash cans from the street. Lucky yours only a few feet. Mine goes for 66′ from the roadway!
    Read your story about the new punter from down under. Sang says Alex is one of the “best punters” at the Ray Guy Academy. Does this mean that there are other punters/kcikers better than Alex in terms of distance and hang time?
  120. brew808 February 28, 2009 11:04 am
    Okay folks – don’t forget there’s time (a week) to participate in Jason’s ACS Relay for Life Event! Just click on his name/post above for more info. 😀
  121. A-House February 28, 2009 11:06 am
    brew808:
    howzit? are you saying that Ray Guy has a branch academy in Australia? I thought Alex was on the mainland and that’s why Sang used “yards”. Only USA uses yards everyone else uses metric system.
  122. A-House February 28, 2009 11:10 am
    brew808:
    interesting point about “where” a kicker must line up on a kickoff.
    maybe like golf where the player can tee-off from any place between and behind the markers – make sense to me to move the ball back to take advantage of where the ball lands with the long hang time instead of giving automatic 20-yard line.
  123. PowderPuff February 28, 2009 11:11 am
    Good morning! A-Joe – you’re welcome. But remember, it’s the magician, NOT the wand. Rob is TOTALLY awesome at darts, and wow….A-Sports, I tried your method, but it didn’t quite work as well for me. Had a blast last night…thank you all for the great company. Had a nice chat with that good Catholic boy, (J)James…Thanks to Midori7 for setting everything up. Stretch…where you stay?!?!?!
  124. josiah February 28, 2009 11:12 am
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFdb-nwsASE
    Alex Dunnachie?
  125. Jason February 28, 2009 11:13 am
    brew808: There’s no rule that states how far back a punter has to line up, but traditionally it’s 13-15 yards because of the ability of the long snapper. If you’ve got a long snapper who can get the ball out 20 yards quickly enough while still holding his point, then I don’t see a problem with that. But with the increased distance comes more time for the rushers to go after the punter.
  126. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 11:14 am
    Whoa…da cougar makes an appearance….Hiya PP!!! I mean Powderpuff (I don’t think PP sounds too good…especially after all the beeru KK drank last p.m.)…..
  128. brew808 February 28, 2009 11:20 am
    Nice pix’s A-joe – although plenty of peeps backs! 😯 Also, got some new faces…. Mahalo! 😀 😯 😆
  129. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 11:22 am
    WarriorMojo- Yes. I am familiar with Seals and Crofts. We opened for them at the Shell back in the day and did a tv series afterhours at KITV that they appeared on. Their music reflects their faith. Dash has a version of my pule melody (not the Hawaiian one I do) that is played often. Jimmy has been playing with his brother (England) Dan – who- unfortunately, is very ill right now… 🙁
    I have one of Dan’s song’s on my blog from last week.
  130. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 11:24 am
    Hey Powderpuff…you need to reassure A-Sports that I am a GOOD Catholic boy…..I am very naieve and innocent as I proved to you last night…..
  131. Stretch February 28, 2009 11:24 am
    Good Morning Tsaikos!!
    Didn’t realize that I spent just as much time in TJ’s that I do in the office. Damn, it was a looooooong 8 hours of drinking and darts.
    (Jesse) James:
    February 28th, 2009 at 9:22 am
    I wonder where Colomaohana…or Big C is at today….??? She must have gone to the mommy thing at Kahala Mall. Anyways, I wanted to ask her about some financial stuff and whether or not I was compliant with all my paperwork….LOL….eh, Stretch, c’mon, you gotta jump on that one….LMAO
    and you guys call me an instigator??!!?? Hahaha But since you brought it up….. Soooooo Coloma, is blogging at work, “compliant” w/ work rules??
  132. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 11:31 am
    Stretch- prolly as compliant as “marketing”, yeah? 😎
  133. addahknowjoe February 28, 2009 11:32 am
    Josiah- Good link. Mahalos!
    Wayne Ol- You’re right. Working with a snapper is a different story. Going live with oncoming rush is a completely different animal.
    I can see from the vid Dunnachie’s got a good leg but will need to modify his step and his drop to accommodate a long snappers’ fast/slow/accuracy delivery.
    I’d like to see Dunnachie do a running rugby punt. That’ll be a weapon in itself.
  134. wafan February 28, 2009 11:32 am
    A fine lazy Saturday to all!
    Blood draw then brunch followed by a short nap. Yep. Life is pretty darn good.
  135. wafan February 28, 2009 11:36 am
    A-joe . . .
    Thanks for the pix! Looks like everyone had a good time last night. A few new faces, I see! Cool.
  136. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 11:36 am
    Wayne Ol: I am going to guess that if Dunnachie was trained at the Ray Guy Academy, he will be familiar with the various aspects of American Football.
    Didn’t OSU or somebody have a rugby style kickoff of something ???
  137. Leion February 28, 2009 11:39 am
    Damn, 4:50 on 2nd video, 70 yard punt!!!
  138. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 11:40 am
    Stretch…I thought we all concurred that Rob25 was “the” instigator????
  139. Addahknowsports© February 28, 2009 11:47 am
    ST-
    Also in defense of you, I know you were home diligently working on your next post.
    Powderpuff-
    Had a great time also. I knew you could take on the Tsaikos! You are a true Tsaiko at heart. Well…the off season stuff is just beginning so get ready. Stretch your legs cause there will be bowling among other things. Did I mention we went to hit balls once? Do you fish?
    Jamesie-
    I’m not sure why you feel the need to reassure everyone that you are a good Catholic boy. As far as having Powderpuff reaffirm that…I know we all are on our best behavior when we meet someone. Hehehe. We all know you are a good person at heart. Rob25 is not so much an instigator as a competitor…just ask a-joe. In his words, “she intense, go for blood”.
    Everyone did well last night. Koakane seemed to get better at darts the more he drank and made friends with the neighboring booth. UHFan was doing very very well at darts and didn’t make pieces of the board come off when she threw. One thing about Stretch, though, he gets so pushy when he is playing darts. Or was that his big head that I had to step around. You think I throw hard…. We had three sets of twins last night…Midori and UHFan, c_c and lefty, and CFK and Chris.
    Midori-
    Thank you for arranging the DC and for getting there early to make sure we had tables. Last night was a success and it seems all had an awesome time!
  140. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 12:22 pm
    Alright, Sports! Thanks for the report! So- er- ah- who was YOUR twin????
  141. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 12:23 pm
    Yes…thank you Midori for planning the event…it was awesome as usual…
    A-sports…actually, good Catholic boy is an oxymoron…..LOL
  142. niho mano February 28, 2009 12:27 pm
    welcome dunnachie to the warrior football team….
  143. Mei Ling February 28, 2009 12:28 pm
    Antwan ‘Tua’ Maheley also has a Relay for Life team with Jet Jasper if you’d like to spread your American Cancer Society contributions around.
    homey,
    Esme & out…
  144. Jason February 28, 2009 12:30 pm
    Mei Ling: Normally I wouldn’t mind spreading the wealth, but I hear there might be prizes for the top individuals and teams, and I/we are both in the running for that. 😀
  145. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 12:37 pm
    Mei Ling- Music was us last night!
  146. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 12:39 pm
    Kekoa- da Uku-boi wore his “lucky jacket” last night… da one associated with you 😆 He was representin da Wessai’s.
  147. Stephen Tsai February 28, 2009 12:41 pm
    By the way, if anyone cares, I waited 40 minutes at the airport yesterday. I said hello to about 48 white guys. Then I heard one with an Aussie accent. And that’s how I got my interview.
  148. Stephen Tsai February 28, 2009 12:42 pm
    When I used to cover hoops, I once called more than 200 JCs in the country looking for UH recruits. I finally found Ahmad Ricketts at Hudson Valley College. It would have been easier if Ricketts had an Aussie accent.
  149. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 12:49 pm
    ST…you should have just started shouting “G’Day” to every white guy and see who answered….
  150. Mei Ling February 28, 2009 1:04 pm
    Jason,
    The Warrior Football RFL team is not going to come close to your collection nor your team’s. I need more kope, I couldn’t spell their names correctly…’auwe! Jett & Mahaley…
    K, off to find lunch…
  151. Stretch February 28, 2009 1:29 pm
    Okay, back again, had to go be good uncle and watch my niece play soccer.
    One thing about Stretch, though, he gets so pushy when he is playing darts. Or was that his big head that I had to step around.
    that was to throw you off your game since I am a terrible darts player.
  152. Stretch February 28, 2009 1:39 pm
    ST – I hope the next time the Tsaikos have a get together, you wear your own “undergarments” so you are able to join us.
  153. FloridaTed February 28, 2009 1:43 pm
    Anybody who ever watched Australian Football, I’ve seen quite a few, will know that a lot more is asked of an aussie kicker/punter, than an american style punter.
    If he has the skills as advertised, he will easily adapt, imho.
  154. FloridaTed February 28, 2009 1:44 pm
    In addition, with his size, he can run and take on a few linebackers and DB’s, lol.
  155. SteveM February 28, 2009 1:46 pm
    The Feb. 7 and Feb. 21 Karaoke Call sections are complete for now.
    http://homepage.mac.com/smurashi/photos/karaokecall2.html
    I did have a photo of ST at the BIG KK (Krazy Karaoke) but did not get a second shot as his Low song got “lower”. 😯 Anyone not staring in awe and able to take a photo? 😆
  156. Kekoa February 28, 2009 1:56 pm
    Howzit brew8o8 ~ I thought maybe you were on mission to parts unknown. Good to see that you still get da *Spahkle* in your musings.
    Your thoughts on the way the team is reloading and coming together please. Even the coaching hires add new hope for an even better season! Coach Mack is on roll!
    Go Warriors
  157. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 1:58 pm
    ST- mahalo for “getting the story” ! You put the J in journalism! (I don’t know what that means…)
    Hi Kekoa!
  158. (Jesse) James February 28, 2009 2:08 pm
    Stretch…what??? You didn’t go and see the mommies at Kahala Mall….???
  159. Jorge February 28, 2009 2:25 pm
    Hey, what’s up meat smugglers!? With all the spankings you guys got last season, why are you wasting a scholarship on a punter? Go Huskies!
  160. LizKauai [iMac] BELIEVER February 28, 2009 2:27 pm
  168. AlaWaiPipeLayer February 28, 2009 2:56 pm
    Is there any plan to bring in kicking coach? I don’t believe we’ve had one for a while. I know there is a former NFL kicker living in HNL, Tom McCarthy kicked back in the 80’s for Tomey and kicked for Dallas and KC. He also kicked FG’s. Maybe if we had a kicking coach Iceman would have fare better.
  169. brew808 February 28, 2009 2:56 pm
    I might have included something about pies, and holes, but goodie-goodie Liz was lurking…. 😯 😆 😀
  170. chawan_cut February 28, 2009 2:59 pm
    wafan – That was such a weird discussion yesterday between you, Jason, JaM, & Mia regarding grease boards, elmo’s, and *.ppt presentations. Sheesshhhh…. you teacha’s, excuse me, educators can get so geeky….. 😆 😯 😆
  189. Jason February 28, 2009 4:06 pm
    This coming from the one guy who solved the math problem I posted. 😀
    BTW, where is jm2375? She must be having an all day party or something. Cheer! Cheer! Sneeze. Cheer! Sneeze.
  190. wafan February 28, 2009 4:27 pm
    Brew . . .
    Actually, I think Elmo is a specific brand/product. I have a document camera (Avieo, I think) that I have connected to my computer and LCD projector. Best thing about the document camera is that I can shoot and save the photos and videos and include them in my PPT’s or go live in class to address specific situations.
  191. brew808 February 28, 2009 4:30 pm
    Calm down, wafan, calm down…. Take a deep breath! There’s no need to get sooooo excited…. Heheheh! 😆 😯 🙄
  192. wafan February 28, 2009 4:31 pm
    Jason . . .
    If you can get one when teaching get a white board that prints in color rather than one that prints in black and white. Much more effective, I would imagine, when teaching math.
    And, way better than a chalk board. No dust to screw up your computers. printers, document camera, and LCD projector.
  193. kapakahi February 28, 2009 4:31 pm
    ST….
    Any status update on RB prospect Jack Sula (Carson, CA.)?…now with Lister expected to greyshirt.
    With scholie now going to Aussie punter, what’s the updated prospect of scholie offer yet to WR Aaron Bradley (Gahr HS, Cerritos, CA.)?
    Mahalo!
    Any potential eligibility issues getting into UH for Aussie punter?….like with New Zealand DT prospect Jesse Williams who committed awhile back to UH.
    Mahalo!
  196. brew808 February 28, 2009 4:39 pm
    wafan – I’ll share a story…. once upon a time, I had to tutor a sight-impaired student in one of my subject areas. I had to go through all the problems and administer a weekly quiz. Everything had to be verbal – no diagrams, no written equations, no calculators, nothing! Needless to say, it was one of my most difficult tasks ever. So even though I give you a rash of poop, you do have my utmost respect. 😀
  225. warriorfanny February 28, 2009 7:29 pm
    Although, Chizzy and Green look good on paper, they have yet to play a down in warrior green or in D1A.
    That leaves LWJ who has yet to distinguish himself as a RB.
    Ditto for Huen who has power and quickness but turns slower than an aircraft carrier, and whom has yet to take his maiden voyage in D1A at any position.
    That leaves Kealoha alone as the only legit RB.
    But he needs to add weight and wont if he is ticketed at slot.
    Last year we lost three out of the blocks and Leon labored to get into shape.
    Also, is it safe to say that the two heralded JUCOs will actually be qualified by the time summer camp begins?
    You all know that song n dance.
    Finally, who will coach this position?
    Unless RBs learn techniques by osmosis.
    Should we be concerned?
    YUP!
    I’m guessin RLee, Lumpkin, BSmith, Rolovich, Shaw an Tormey will be on the Oside. Coach, CLee, Miano, Arande, Stutz, MSmith, Shaw on da D side. I’m gonna guess. Ron as the RB coach.
    Thanks to midori7 for setting up the fun evening of darts last night!
    **NEWS RELEASE**
    Koakane was found alive and well at Hoolaulea today. OK I called him this morning to make sure that he was alive. I figured after he was chugging pitchers 😯 last night, that he wouldn’t wake up and then make it to pick up my haole brownie mix. 👿 So I took it upon myself to wake up and drag myself there. He said that he was going to sleep until noon, but then called later and he made it to upper campus. FYI, he found the darts…tossed them to his son when he got home last night.
    A-joe – You my friend are the “ringer” Watched you take everyone one out with your dart skills. Who’s the girl now? 😆
    Powderpuff – So glad to meet you and that you returned to rejoin us. What fun we had and thanks for the Sh** happens darts! I think they made a difference!
    Asports – Thanks for being my patnah…nevermind all the leadfoot comments…just throw the darts in the direction of the taunts.
    Koakane – I’m so glad that you found your lost “brother” (IWWTHM’s friend Lloyd), but easy on the pitchers.
    Watching Men’s VB…not looking good…cheer louder midori7!
    Welcome to the Warriors Alex Dunnachie!
    Wow, this sounds like an awesome find by the coaching staff! If he’s anywhere as good as a certain Dallas Cowboy punter, the Warriors will have a real weapon for the next 4 years!
    I know that UH was hoping to get a walk-on punter (and I thought that ST mentioned a certain walk-on), but a punter of this potential is worthy of a scholarship. Plus, it is hard for a player from Australia to afford to walk on to UH…
    Vegas has been a lot of fun so far and it was great to spend the day with Momo and Mrs. Momo. My kids had been so looking forward to seeing their grandparents and they can’t wait to see them tomorrow morning.
    Two buffets today mean that I’m actually still full even though dinner ended 4 hours ago. We ate at an Asian buffet today that was quite a bit away from the casinos and it was amazing…we will be back! Momo suggested it, though he didn’t know the name of the place nor where it was located, but from what he remembered we were able to figure it out thanks to google.
    Getting a home game against Texas sure is going to make Wyoming a lot of money!
    Still more than six months away from one of the most anticipated games in school history, the Cowboys are already preparing to host perhaps their highest-profile visitor ever to War Memorial Stadium.
    And with online re-seller Stubhub.com advertising tickets for as much as $349, anybody hoping to be there on Sept. 12 better do the same.
    “The thing is, we’ve sold I think about 350 new season tickets and about half of our season-ticket holders have purchased their additional allotment of tickets they could purchase. So it’s going to be a ticket that’s hard to get.”
    But in this case, the opponent definitely does make a difference.
    “It’s enormous for Wyoming,” Burman said. “We call it a Million Dollar Day, that’s our goal.”
  243. d1島 February 28, 2009 9:20 pm
    Great evening all!
    Concur with most, sounds like a great find for a punter.
  244. Garret February 28, 2009 9:22 pm
    By the way, Mack Brown has been extremely concerned about how Oklahoma passed Texas in the BCS standings even though Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral field last season. He’s brought in some of the BCS experts, even questioned some of the people behind the computer rankings.
    He was basically told that Oklahoma played a stronger nonconference schedule and that made a difference. No surprise there. The downside of that is that now Texas has been told that they need to schedule more upper-tier BCS conference teams for their nonconference games…so, I wouldn’t expect Wyoming (or teams in the WAC like UH) to get new games scheduled with Texas.
    Before, I think that Texas was a little afraid of UH…plus, they make something like $5 mil per home game and UH isn’t going to play 2 games in Texas for 1 game at Aloha Stadium (I think that was the deal that Wyoming took). However, now the problem is that Texas has basically been told that their strength of schedule and national championship hopes will be hurt if they schedule teams like UH.
    My prediction is that the game scheduled for Texas in the future (not counting the games they have already scheduled) will be like the UCLA and Ohio State games they scheduled in the past and future, plus one game with a D-IAA team they can buy a home game from, plus one game with a non-BCS conference team that gives them a 2-for-1 deal. Although they might have to cut out the 2-for-1 scheduling and add another BCS conference opponent like how they played a SEC team last year.
    Texas’ 2nd Junior Day is tomorrow. They already have 17 commits, so there are a lot of players attending that will not get an offer and will be told that they will only get an offer if a recruit in front of them turns them down. It is a nice way to pressure the top choices to commit, or move on if they waver.
    I’m glad that Mac is having a Junior Day this year, and he’s timing it well with when it falls on the Spring Practice schedule. My only concern is that the Junior Day will be after so many other (even non-BCS conference schools) have had their days for 2010 recruits. I guess that is because UH’s Spring Practice starts later than many other schools (due to not wanting Spring Break to interrupt it, like it does at other schools). I should just quiet down about this issue because I’m happy that UH will be having one.
    I honestly think that UH under Mac could be as dominant with local recruiting as Texas is with Texas recruits. Texas doesn’t get everyone they want in Texas, but the Junior Days are a key force in finding out who is going to commit early and who may want to go elsewhere…so, they can move on to the next recruit much earlier instead of having those recruits feel neglected while the top recruits with offers take their time. Plus, once some recruits start committing at a Junior Day, the other recruits feel like they need to commit early or risk losing a spot. The recruits also have unlimited contact with each other to try to keep their commits strong and not waver.
    I know that there is the other issue of teams coming in to poach UH commits. However, the bulk of the commits keep their commit…and UH wouldn’t even have a chance at some recruits if it didn’t offer early and do everything *legally* possible like Junior Days.
  252. Garret February 28, 2009 9:42 pm
    d1shima,
    I think that Wyoming allows season ticket holders to buy extra tickets for each game. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those new season ticket holders have addresses in Texas…and have maxed out the number of extra seats they can get for the Texas game. In fact, I’d bet that certain ticket agencies in Texas are new Wyoming season-ticket holders! Reselling tickets is legal in Texas…no matter what the markup.
    When the Final Four was in San Antonio, I entered the NCAA lottery for tickets and I won. I ended up needing to sell the pair of tickets because of a conference I had to go to…it was entertaining to listen to each ticket agency bid against each other for those tickets! As a graduate student, that money sure came in handy.
  253. Ralph February 28, 2009 9:45 pm
    HOMEY HOMEY the mbb team sits at 13-15 with tonight’s lost, that’s a 46 per cent winning percentage, “junk”, to say they will have a better percentage is not saying a whole lot. 47 per cent is still a losing percentage but better than this season…come on Homey, 20 wins, be a super fan like Jason….
  254. d1島 February 28, 2009 9:48 pm
    Garret,
    I imagine you’re spot on about those addresses.
    btw, can’t wait to get to Vegas at the end of this month (woohoo, I can say it’s THIS month now!)
  255. d1島 February 28, 2009 9:50 pm
    …oh wait! Not quite able to say this month yet.
    😳
    too excited, I guess! 😆
  256. Garret February 28, 2009 9:53 pm
    d1shima,
    I think that Wyoming should have limited the extra tickets that season-ticket holders (at least the new ones) could buy…they would have sold a lot more season-tickets that way and made much more money! The way things are now, the Texas ticket agencies (or fans) can buy one season ticket and then buy a bunch more tickets just for the Texas game.
  257. Garret February 28, 2009 9:54 pm
    I wasn’t going to say anything about what month it was…but I’m happy that you’ll be in Vegas soon! My kids love it here, and Lori and I had extended time to gamble today because my parents spent quality time with my kids. They had fun and we had fun, such a great day!
    Where is everyone? Must have been a hard night! HA!
    Finally finished reading the HA paper. I like the new punter. Heck, even if he only gets 50 yards per punt he will definitely be a weapon for us! Just have to fine tune him to allow our guys to down the ball deep in their territory.
    I wonder how the returners will change their tactics once they get hit by a real rugby player. Ouch! That could hurt a little bit.
  320. wafan March 1, 2009 7:31 am
    Been searching for on-line tickets for a show in Vegas while there for the UNLV game. The Vegas shows do not have a calendar/schedule for September. Their calendars all stop in June. They must post no more than four months or so in advance.
    Exception is the Phantom. But their ticket prices are starting at $300+, and show only 12 seats remaining for 9/18. Unless I become ridiculously wealthy in the next day or two the Phantom show is definitely out.
  321. KapoleiWarrior March 1, 2009 7:54 am
    You’re not missing much wafan. As a Phantomphile that has seen it over 20 times….the Vegas version of the play is the worst one I’ve ever seen. The venue and props are awesome but they really butcher the show to make it fit into their time constraints.
    Mr. and Mrs. Yamashita met my sister and her husband when both couples adopted daughters in China. The Yamashita’s went back a couple of years later and adpoted their second girl.
    KapoleiWarrior,
    I wuz feeling bad dat da big palooka from Kapolei was going away. den we get dis awesome nationally talked about palooka coming dis way. so dis is my prediction: da Warriors gonna kick some serious butt in da next four years, we gonna keep feeling really good about our Coach and what he is doing in da program and upgrading the coaches and respecting his coaches and giving all the coaches a chance to shine and getting respect in their own rights, and we all gonna feel good about our Warriors, and being a part of the Warrior ohana.
    yep, too bad not all da good localz gonna be a part of all this to come.
    GO WARRIORS.
I hope they do well, but my focus is on those who want to be WARRIORS.
  331. Pauoa's Finest March 1, 2009 8:34 am
    Alojahs Gang,
    Welcome to the Warrior Nation Alex Dunnachie!!! I envision you to be the next of the great aussie kicker/punters. Great find coaches, a naturally talented kicker can be a difference maker in games. Now that we have a guy that can boom the pigskin, is there someone inline who will take care of coaching the kicking duties. As much focus as we put on offense and defense; special teams is probably the most integral game changing unit on the field! Being able to pin opponents deep on punt coverage and not allowing returners to boogie with the ball is vital. This is something our Warrior boys have had trouble with in the past. I hope we will emphasize as much of our coaching efforts into Special Teams like we do on O and D!
  332. Pauoa's Finest March 1, 2009 8:38 am
    Congrats to Red Raider Nation Basketball Boys winning the Red Division Championship!
  333. Pauoa's Finest March 1, 2009 8:54 am
    The statement Coach Mack said about getting to a Bowl Game being the teams goal on a yearly basis should be rephrased. I’m glad he said that winning a Bowl Game every year is the goal! To me though I’m looking bigger picture, lets go out an dominate the WAC, bring home the Championship yearly without question, climb that stupid BCS ladder and sit atop the Top 25 teams in the nation like I know we can. Then when we return to the Sugar Bowls of the world, lay the smack down on the candy arse opponent!
  334. jm2375 March 1, 2009 9:08 am
    Good morning Tsai-kos! Another Winnie-the-Pooh type of day.
    Pauoa’s finest – if you are new, welcome to the blog, if not welcome back. Any relation to Pauoa Boy, whose been MIA lately?
  335. protector March 1, 2009 9:20 am
    I’m ecstatic that Coach Mac addressed the punting situation. That makes our special teams much less of a liability. That’ll be worth at least a couple of games as well as enhanced field position throughout the year. Now if the new coaches can address the protection schemes and can stop the “bleeding” at OT, this coming season will truly be a pay-off & pay-back year!!
  336. jm2375 March 1, 2009 9:40 am
    Saw this article on yahoo about non-profits and other institutions that can’t touch their endowments due to state laws because the value was lower than the original amount used to establish it. Does this apply to Hawaii? Several universities on the Mainland, including some private schools, have this problem.
    The North Carolina Symphony has all the money it needs. But in this economy, the orchestra isn’t allowed to touch it.
    The value of its endowment stands at nearly $6.9 million, a fund the symphony planned to tap this year to help pay its musicians and put on concerts. But because of the slump on Wall Street, the endowment is worth less than the original donations that created it. That means, under North Carolina law, that the money is off limits.
    It’s a frustrating quandary for universities, orchestras and other nonprofit organizations in two dozen states. They have the money they need to save jobs, offer scholarships and put on a solid schedule of programs, but face state laws that keep them from using any of it.
