Night 3: Notes
The Warriors had 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills for the first time this training camp. The offense received several new plays, which resulted in an uneven performance. The same menu of plays will be used this afteroon (4 p.m.-6 p.m. practice), then more plays will be added for practices Friday and Saturday.
• It appears quarterback Kiran Kepo‘o will not play for the Warriors this fall. His No. 12 jersey is being given to Greg Alexander.
• Running back Jake Heun has been hobbled by a tight calf. He suffered the injury during Monday’s practice.
• Mike Washington made the best play. He broke off a bubble route, cut between two defenders, caught Inoke Funaki’s pass and race away.
Here’s John Estes’ father and brother:

Deondre Powell is regarded as the fifth recruit to commit for 2009. But next year’s class also should include the grayshirts, such as wide receiver Kalua Noa, defensive end Alema Tachibana, linebacker Art Laurel, and defensive backs Christian Vasconcellos and Earvin Sione.
Courtesy of our friend Jon Nielsen, here are pictures of Powell, as well as one with quarterback Corey Nielsen:

Friends are planning a fundraiser for former UH offensive lineman Bernard Carvalho tomorrow at the Disabled American Veteran on Nimitz. The event is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each. Several former players will attend, including Pride Period.

Congrats on getting another speedy outside receiver,

He also had a chance to work out with Ryan Grice-Mullen, the former star receiver at Hawaii. “I worked out with Grice-Mullen and I know he isn’t very big …?

Stretch: I believe the tickets are already on sale. You can call Murphy’s at 531-0422 and probably order them over the phone.
stretch – heard don murphy on the radio yesterday and he said for sale already
good morning y’all.
lizk…..ask the doc if he should rule out menigitis, since its been going around.
….
on another note….so if sione, tachibana, vasconcellos, and laurel are pushed back to grayshirt status.
is it saying to us that the apr was worst than anticipated therefore, not as many available scholarships for 08?
or will some be counted as 08 and some counted for 09?
and where does noa count?
and, and what about waylon lolotai’s coming in 09?
now that we don’t have a permanent compliance person, what’s the deal here?
and, and, and i do agree that the 09 class is off to such a great start and its off the charts as far this program goes.
also, i am hearing that one or two more las vegas top 20 players may be committing soon including a former iolani student. tuioti’s worth is being proven already.
http://homermcfanboy.blogspot.com/2008/08/legend-of-colt.html
Yup Colt is being taken seriously now…
Thanks SJ & Loa – will pick up a ticket for the event.
Good morning Gangeez!

forgot to add…
Liz: hope your doc can figure out what’s going on & get you better!!!
Liz – I hope it isn’t food poisoning and if it is, I hope you didn’t eat the loco moco yesterday, that’s what I had.
Don’t all the greyshirts count toward the 09 class
Hello everyone, hope you are having a pleasant morning.

Stretch- I had eggs, bacon and fried rice.
liz – enough blogging, go doctor already. In other words, “beat it” hahahaha
So, how many scholies do we have for the 09 season to still give? Some of it will be dependent on the performance of this year’s class as well right? I know we’re getting ahead of ourselves a bit but just wondering…..ST?? Help???
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/specials/preview/2008/08/05/rankings0811/index.html?eref=T1
SI has a preseason poll from 1 to 119. They show Hawaii at 81. Pretty sad, two of the bottom three teams are from the WAC, Idaho (117) and Utah State (119)
Stretch…I don’t get off until 5:30 today….so probably can’t make it. What is the practice schedule looking like for the next few weeks??
mauiwarrior…..st once said that grayshirts could be counted in either the current year and/or the forthcoming year. i guess that is why they are gray shirts being in the gray area.
Will Corey Nielsen follow in the footsteps of former Gahr QB Jim Zorn? Hopefully the answer is YES.
Where’s UHfan808?

Hope to see some huge lineman committing to the Warriors.
Here is an article about another potential recruit from the las vegas area:
(from rivals.com)
“The Palo Verde Panthers are one of the most talented teams in the western region this year. With a boatload of speed in the backfield, this team also has an impact linebacker that has seen interest really pick up in him during the summer.
“I went to the All-Poly Camp and since then I have seen things really pick up,” said Liloa Nobriga. “I picked up an offer from Hawaii last week while Utah and Stanford have given verbal offers. Stanford says they just need my test scores. Colorado and Arizona have also said they are very interested while Utah State said they are close.”
“I measured in at 6-foot-3 and 225-pounds, I have also improved my strength. This year, it’s just about taking the game day-by-day. It’s all about the team. We can’t stop thinking about the last game (Sunset Title game versus Gorman). We really want to get the state title this year.”
“Right now I would say I’m leaning toward UH. I like that Coach Tony Tuioti is there.”
“I will always like UNLV as well. They were my first offer. I rally like Coach Mike Sanford and Upresa. They are recruiting me hard.”
“I will be visiting Arizona this Saturday on an unofficial. Coach Michael Smith is the coach that has been recruiting me the most. If they offer, that could be touch to pass. It’s the Pac 10 and I have a friend there that says he loves it”
As for a personal goal, Nobriga has set the bar high looking to notch 150 tackles and 20 sacks. According to him, he enjoys having big goals.”
The bottom teams in the WAC need to “Step Up”. Even Hawaii at 81 is not too hot, that is the bottom third of the country.
Per SI’s Poll
Conference Rankings (average of all teams)
SEC 34.08

Mountain West 71.56
C-USA 80.92
WAC 84.22

SunBelt 94.75
sunlinelv – Thanks for the info! Nice read.
hmmmmm.
sunlinelv…..are you picking my brains?
Howzit Tsai-Kos!!
Great point homey. Can’t pass or run if the linemen don’t block. From a former O-lineman, I would love to see those big dudes pancaking a gator or two.
No, Carvalho is not sick. He’s running for Kaua‘i Mayor.
ref: post #19
So, I’m sitting at home, watching Comedy Central, and up pops a Heald College commercial.
Yep, it was the first time I saw Wreckneyze’s ad.
al – you must be tsai-chic
sjmacro and chawan_cut could you guys email me at pomai at tsai-kos dot com
Stretch – Sheesh, no respect from SI. I don’t give a rip about SI. In fact when I go to the doctor’s office and there is a SI Swimsuit edition or a Highlights children magazine I pick the Highlights. SI can kiss DPK’s okole!
Aloha kakahiaka, gangeez!
LizK, Hope you get to feeling better!
Leon W-J! Looking forward to seeing him running down the field. Sounds like it’s his time.
Have fun at practice.
Leila, great articles!
ST ~ Hope to get you some more pics by tonight.
Liz:
Teams are allowed to offer a maximum of 25 new scholarships a year, with a maximum of 85 players total on the overall roster. But, doing the math, you can’t bring in 25 players a year because that would exceed the 85-player limit. There are a lot of scholarship players completing their eligibility after this season, so there’s more scholarship room in 2009 than now.
st….where is leatigaga on the depths?
homey….you also read my thoughts. we probably go after another wr, qb, rb, and a couple of corners. lb’s are always good finds cause they could also end up on the line. but, where’s the beef? we seem to have many offers out there for many a local lineman, but, so far no committals.
pride……speaking of zorn. funny how he publicly critiques colt’s improvising, risk taking style. i recall him to be a scrambling, whirling dervish, miracle playmaking quarterback who was the second coming of fran tarkenton during his heyday at seattle.
ST, Disabled Veterans? That was misleading. Glad that Carvalho is well.
Grayshirts also can count again the 2008 recruiting class in certain situations. So there’s some flexibility. Tony Tuioti can sort it all out. Will bring him in as a chat guest when things calm down a little bit. Right now we’re all overheated because of the mid-day practices.
Gorg – yep, it’s about time to start looking for O-linemen. Oh, and a couple of running backs too.
Ever since that reporter from SI pulled that stuff about Michelle Wie’s drop at the Samsung, I stopped reading SI and even going to their website. Will have nothing to do with them. If that’s the kind of reporters that have, I’m not surprised they have Hawaii so low.
is dis liloa nobriga kid that one that went to iolani for a couple of years then transferred to LV??
ST could you send me your cell #
Stretch-
Make sure you save those pre-season rankings til Hawaii wins a bowl game to close the season. We should know what expect from “polls” early in the season. To place Hawaii at #81 is classic media stupidity and ignorance. *sigh* Same bullsh*t, different year. 👿
GO WARRIORS!!!
ST, typo in your entry —
AmericanS Veteran
Leatigaga, who is back from knee problems, has a way to go to make it into the rotation.
stretch….i like the fact that (again) we get no respect. i am sure a lot of the low rankings are the result of the sugar bowl demise coupled with the loss of colt brennan and the four horseman. also, add to the mix the “absence” of projected starter graunke, we become an easy target to push down the rankings.
but, i like it. doesn’t it make a national power like florida tend to overlook us? i’ll bet they will spend some time on their preparations for us but will also be looking ahead to the huge rivalry game with miami the following week.
i like it. who knows? they could be ripe for the pickings.

I beg your pardon, homey!!! Those lips have sucked more BCS butt than I care to imagine! Keep those filthy, disgusting, lying lips off of my pikake scented hinterlands! 😆
Al & ST
Sent an email to both. ST sent to ur edu account.
I never read SI, either. Not even their swimsuit issue. haha
Stretch I think the guys at SI are smoking too much Maui Wowi, cuase they sure don’t know chit about football. They have every SEC above us so I wonder who there favorite conference is, what a joke.
DPK – 😆 Okay, you may be right but I was just thinking they could scrape the barnacles off at the same time.
They still make Highlight magazine?
That was my favorite as a kid. I remember Goofus and Gallant, the bear family and the hidden pictures.
I’m getting misty-eyed again.
Pomai – No ways we would send them Maui Wowie. That’s too good for them. If anything, they are drinking some moonshine from some backyard hillbilly distillery. Or maybe smoking some LSD laced ganja from Jamaica. Or shooting some opium from Afghanistan that was pissed on by some wimpy Afghan who can’t protect his own country.
dpc….yes, he is the same one who was an all stater in basketball his fresh or soph years.
SI used to be known more for its great writing — and photos, of course — than for the day-to-day reports. Then several years ago, they started to lose some of their best writers, and they went with all of the small features. As a weekly, the magazine isn’t equipped to meet the up-to-the-keyboard-click demand of today’s public.
ST,
I think you can still flip through Highlights at my dad’s office…
ST – I still see them in the office! My favorites are the hidden pictures, jokes sent in by kids, and find the differences in the pictures.
Eh. What’s wrong wit you?
Who cares if get typos?
You no make mistakes lady?
You always bring me out of lurk mode.
Sheesh. Get one life!
ST, please see post #68…
al:thanks for the clarification on the gray shirt………….
Everyone: who cares what the media says, they don’t know shirt……..the thing we can do is turn around at the end of the season and remind them how stupid they were……….and maybe it will allow us to surprise some people………..low expectations from the media=motivation for the players, lets use it to our advantage
I’m confused… I could have sworn that you said to save the barnacles for YOU! 😆
let’s hope the media opinions don’t result in low morale for the players.
thanks for leatigaga update.
hope he gets back to playing shape. he looked like a beast.
DPK – Opihi yes, barnacles no.
So when you headed out to the next practice? I’m waiting to see when James can go. I’m looking at a morning practice when the players are in full gear. Then maybe go somewhere afterward to replenish bodily nutrients.
Good Morning Tsaikos!
Anyone know the mentally-challenged individual who posted posts 598-600 on yesterday’s blog???
Okie and dokie, LIz.
haha ST, das my boy! But correct it to
AmericanS
Tanks, brah
Sorry I meant
VeteranS
gigi – if a book critic said your books suck would that give you a low morale or self esteem?
A friend used to have a job as a proofreader. He was very good at it.
K-den homey…how is that you know so much about all these things?
Hey UHfan808 and Midori7…I’m coming to practice today also.
the team shouldn’t get low morale from the media, they’re football players, it will serve more as motivation, u know how those things work, tell someone they can’t do something and they will attempt to prove them wrong…………………DA WARRIORS will prove that they belong up there with Boise St. and Fresno St. or at least ahead of Nevada
homey, I was very upset when my aunt criticized my 2nd book. Didn’t speak to her for almost 3 years!
Of course, she went out of her way to call all our relatives and tell them not to buy my book, and if they had already done so, not to read it.

Good Morning Tsaikos!
Anyone know the mentally-challenged individual who posted posts 598-600 on yesterday’s blog???Haven’t met the individual but I hear that the individual owes me a bottle of CR.
Hey, bod, thanks for putting us over 600.
Much appreciated.
homey – should I bring the shotglasses??
Homey..I actually like SI’s swimsuit edition, it gives me fashion ideas for the summer….MWAAHAHAHAHAHA
I like Highlights too…love the picture find….LMAO
Probably will only be able to make the Saturday practices until after the 18th….Anyone wanna go this Saturday and have a lunch after?
Gigi:
I can understand your ire, especially since it was autobiographical. But you’ve got to roll with the punches. As long as they’re upset about the content and not the style, you’re OK.
Wow my blockquote nevah work!
Rob3.14159265 – I am a former subscriber of Hightimes.
gigi – so did it lower your morale? That was the question.
Speaking of glasses – I will finally be making the “Tsaiko” beer mugs next week Friday for the people who ordered them. Sorry for the delay. If anyone wants the 34oz beer mug, please email tsaikoparty at yahoo and we will include you in the order.
Jesse:
You might have to cover for some of us on the 18th. We might be hung over.
Stretch – Bulla will be mixing and there will be j-bombs plus Rob3.14159265 will be bringing something…yeah, bring them. 😆
homey-
Let’s look to make practice sometime next week, when they’re in pads. Some o’ them soft, delicious biscuits from Jack’s afterwords, maybe.
yep, it was the content. She said the scandal I described in my book was false.
Of course, I had gotten the info from my uncle, who was at the scene when the scandal occurred.
Wut’s Donovan’s email again?
great to see that THE Princess is still keeping involved with her articles.
i bet she can’t wait for for both football and soccer seasons to start!
Maybe Jaymie can join us…
ST…hungover?? you?? Never….mwahahahahahahahaha
homey, yeah, her criticism was demoralizing. But 3 years later, I have forgiven her and hopefully we can put this behind us.
DPK…who is this Jaymie you keep referring too??? Is he Koamahu?? MWAHAHAHAHA by the way, haven’t seen Koamahu or Koakane around here for a while…..things that make you go Hmmmmmmm…..
(J)J – What kind job you get??? I was planning next week Wednesday! Arrgghhh.
I think we’ll all be intoxicated by Caryn Kunz’s and Kelli Miura’s singing.
By the way, DPK can only come to practice if he promises not to violate the tree again.
ST…LMAO…I remember his tree violation…..j/k. He violated a tree???
“violate the tree” — hmmm, my imagination runs wild on this one.
who’s going to saturday morning practice? that’s the only one i can go to.
ST – isn’t that how baby trees are made??
On the other hand, gigi, at least she read the book.
haha it’s not a good day to be DPK.
We’d have to be intoxicated to hear Rob3.14159265 sing.
Stretch:
I think that’s how trees end up having to go to counseling.
When the baby trees grow up will they have a fat trunk?
chawan – meet James on Saturday. Lunch afterward.
ST – you’re more than welcome!
homey – put up your two fingers and say scout’s honor that you actually tried quinoa and did not like it.
H-bod – “Scouts Honor” (Bobby Brady crossed fingers behind my back)
Re: Trees.
It started with Stretch bringing his friend “Sleeze.” And then we were watching the practice and the next thing I know DPK is 1) saying to a guy from Brand X “did you see my post?” and 2) violating a tree.
At least DPK had a very cool T-shirt.
just happened to be lurking and noticed a new post up

i second the above on ‘just happened’ and ‘howzit’.
hey now………….next friday IS a State Holiday!! ok, UH practice sounds good, they’ll be in pads too.
yah….there is no jaymie. but, i do know some jamie’s.
…..
st, that would be the 16th of august. unless your hangovers hang around for two days.
….
let’s call the sierra club and the outdoor circle and rat on dpk.
…..
well, there will be a pho cc soon. asports is arranging it.
if the father is DPK, yes, with small twigs as “branches”
dpk did what?
asked brand x for some love?
hey, i vote he should be smu’d asap.
heck about the tree.
Rob – pretend you’re on the phone so you take pictures to text to me 😉
Ask Leila to tell you her stick joke.
I think it’s the only joke I’ve ever heard her tell.
Nope, DPK gets lifetime immunity from being SMU’d.
He was the first blog reader I met in person. (Wena only started reading the blog in December.)
Isn’t it funny how SMU’d had one meaning, and then half the UH staff bolts there, and I guess it has added meaning.
Damn, I feel like adopting a tree now… 😥
Damn, I feel like adopting a tree now…
not hug?
ahhhhh, obviously not the same one DPK…………….
What’s brown and sticky?
A stick.
As a newspaper person whose product relies on paper, I have great empathy for trees.
Treat them right.
Then chop them down and grind them into pulp so I can write my UH stories.
Homey:
LOL.
That’s the only joke Leila tells.
That’s as old as …
A bear walks into a bar. The bear says: “I … want … a … beer …”
The bartender says: “Hey, bear, why the long pause?”
I can try…I forgot my camera or I would have tried that also. They can’t possibly keep their eyes on everyone. Then again I read what ST said about giving us more if we follow the rules.
Not sure about the Dec trip since the airfare I was looking at went up $107 in one day…will let you know.
ST – I’ll make pretend I haven’t heard that one when she tells it to me. 😆
A stick joke is okay as long as it’s not a sick joke.
…and the John Kerry one…
John Kerry walks into a bar and the Bartender says, “Why the long face?”
heck, ST, it’s better than my airplane joke, which was panned on this blog.
I still haven’t seen the commercial… I wonder if they thought I was funny looking so they placed it on Comedy Central.
Makes you wonder… Then again… I would rather have it there than the SciFi channel…

Bulla – Should I bring the Midori liquer also?
Ronnie – You should be here for this!
Rob –
Ok, we’ll follow the rules for a little while… There’s always Fresno St.
Yikes about the airfare. I’ll keep an eye out for good deals.
Pondering…Lifetime Immunity…
Hmm… I wonder what last minute fares to Hawai’i in August cost…
liquer = liqueur
plus he calls you daily.
Makes you wonder why RT airfares to Hawaii from the West coast are so high, when you see RT airfare from Philippines to Hong Kong PLUS 2 nights hotel going for $244 per person/double occupancy.
Rob25: see you at practice!
Ronnie: wish you could be there also!
re: Statehood Day – jealous of all you guys who have a holiday! Looking at ST’s schedule, there’s a morning & afternoon practice.
Ronnie,
$340 one way on Saturday from LAX to HNL on Hawaiian’s website.
$405 one way today same cities.
Ronnie – Yeah I need my drinking partner and then we can go to practice and take lots of pics (with our phones)!
Can just imagine the Four Amigas (Ronnie, Rob25, UHfan808 and Midori7) taking the place by storm!!!
GGma:
If you will be in the Orlando area on Friday, 8/29/08, we are planning a Tsaiko tailgate at the Golden Corral, 8032 International Drive, meeting at 6:30pm at the front entrance.
Let me know via this blog if you can make it and number in your party.
Invitation is to other Tsaikos who will be there!!!!
J – she needs quotes for Aug 16-18 please
Wassup Tsaiko-land! Is there practice on friday too? My godson is flying in from Maui & I want to take him to see them. Hopefully Tyler will be there. Even with all the Colt mania, my godson’s favorite QB was Tyler so he was really looking forward to watching Tyler play this year. It’s too bad he’s got some drama going on right now.
i didn’t know that the twins drank.
and robbie don’t forget the tequila.
The 16th is my sister’s birthday party (she turns 40). How about the 22nd – 25th…
A-House – My parents are going into Orlando and I was telling them about your plans, but I couldn’t remember all of the details. I will let them know the specifics and then get back with you.
j….the simplest way to justify the price fluctuations of airfares from day to day, or week to week, or month to month as so on is that it is based upon the simplest of business practices and that being; “supply and demand” determines prices.
oh, notwithstanding, cost of sales, i.e. fuel, labor, maint. etc.
Now it looks like I need the hookup at Paradise Beverages!
Ronnie – you have to come to the KK!
al – The Four Amigas gonna take UH by storm…not the KK. Do the twins drink?
Sorry A-House…they are staying in Gainesville. They fly into Orlando on the 27th and then out on the 31st early morning. I guess they won’t be able to make it to the Golden Corral. Do you know if anything is happening on game day involving the Hawaii group?
Thanks Al…though I believe gigi was the one who was wondering about fare differences.
Ronnie:
$527 US Airways LAX 10:51a HNL 7:45p HNL 3:50p LAX 6:27a
Got this from Kayak.com

hmmm,
Thursday, Aug. 14 – First day of full pads.

homey,
sorry, i gotta turn down the lunch date with jamie. i can only watch the am practice for a few hours and then i gotta run.
jokes…. hmm…
how about this one?
what’s green, yellow, and red all over & running around in circles???
….. confused & angry green bay packer fans trying to figure out this whole favrerer mess.

j….okay. sorry about that.
but, could you be the one to explain it to her?
please?
Sorry al,
I’m only half Korean.
If you all recall correctly, the thing between the tree and I was about mutual attraction. These claims of me “violating” said tree are absolutely false.
Vanessa (from da Wessai) – Friday/Saturday practices are from 8:30am – 11:30am (full pads) and 3:30pm – 4:30pm (walk through).
I doubt that Tyler will be cleared by then, especially since there is one more week remaining of summer school.
Bruce Wayne: “Keep the guests busy Alfred. Tell them that joke you know”.
oops! full pads next week Thursday.
Thanks Loa!
I’ll be there this Saturday (8:30 – 11:30). I might have to leave a little before 11:30 cause I gotta work at 12 noon.
it’s the flu.
Prescriptions: soft pillows, remote control, week off from work, tamiflu and ibuprophin…
My cornish game hen soup is bubbling away…
What happened to the WB blog….print is centered for each line and in 8 font size.
UHfan – just heard your signature song (Freaky Cold Medina) on I94. Gotta hear the live version on the16th!
Rob25:
Best I know, most of the Hawaii Tsaikos will be scattered, but most, if not all, travel group tours will be in Orlando because of the theme parks.
I don’t know of any “gatherings” on game day as it will take us about 3 hours by bus from Orlando to Gainsville and then rush back to the buses for the long ride back to the hotel.
Rob25:
If your parents are flying in to Orlando on 8/27/08 – our function is on 8/29/08 or day before the game.
Maybe they can join us?
Expensive the fares from LA. I see them all over the place from the low-mid $500s as referenced above all the way to $800+ for close-in dates.
DPK: Do you have any evidence to repudiate the claims made above?
Take care Aunty Liz! Praying for you.
Go to the UH practice field, find the cigarette smokin’ tree with the biggest smile and ask it…
should tyler make it back in a week.
how far back would he be?
where would he start from? #2, #3, #4,………….?
or would he languish on the bench for the rest of the year?
should he consider a change of scenary at a div3?
just some tough questions.
sort of like a reality check.
DPK, as you know, I was a witness to the whole affair. I can’t stand by quietly anymore. The truth must come out.
That tree did NOT give its consent to be violated. No way. It didn’t have a chance. You just climbed aboard and started… well, you know what you did.
these smallish receivers of late remind of the justin colberts, channon harrris, and of course, chad owens types of scatbacks that enjoyed so much success.
can’t imagine a burly linebacker trying to matchup with them.
then when they go nickel or dime to cover we bash em with the run game inside the box.
gotta love it.
This is to officially make notification that we have opened an investigation.
Case #48756PPPPP.We will be in touch with all witnesses and suspects.
mojo….visual graphics!
ohh my God!
shame, shame little timmy.
Nothin’ like a gawl durned LAWYER to make the truth a lie… That tree wanted me, wanted me bad.
Kazz – I had to find out for myself re “your” FAVORITE morning radio personality. I just turned it on and the first words I here is vulgar language. WTF!!! That guy must REALLY need some loving. I only listened long enough until the interview with ST was done.
ST – nice interview this morning!
dpk’s lucky he’s not in lanai city.
i was told that if you sped through town your neighbor could notate your license plate and report you. soon thereafter, lanai city’s finest would be knocking upon your door with a ticket in hand for reckless operation of a vehicle.
hey, i wonder if tree police would do such an arrest.
i know where he lives.
Good afternoon, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister.
Sofar, looking at everything that is coming out from training camp and the recruiting front, all I see is a tremenously deep team developing. We seem to be getting closer and closer to BCS quality depth. In future years there will be only reloading and the rebuilding days are over.
Our chances to beat Florida are becoming more ligit by the day.
Urban Meyer is having his team practice during the less heat hours, hah? We might be better conditioned than the Gators. It’s not even that hot in Florida right now.
LizK,
Did you go to the Doctor yet?
If ya don’t believe me, ask “Gloves Guy”. He was standin’ right there the whole time.
http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/30/can-colt-brennan-be-an-nfl-quarterback/#comment-145231
“But back to the question: Is Colt Brennan the next Timmy Chang (who preceded Brennan at Hawaii and also set multiple passing records)? Or the second coming of Tom Brady (who was also chosen in the sixth round)?”
so did said tree have a knot hole?
Loa – hmmmm, Thursday next weeks morning practice looks good. DPK, got Thursday?
I’m thinking that the tree DPK allegedly violated is environmentally friendly and did put a paper bag over DPK.
FloridaTed- yep see #182
WarriorMojo – Put me on the stand, I will testify the truth. DPK was laying some wood on the wood
XLiz – FLU! I wonder if the people you was in contact with on Sunday will start getting symptoms. TAKE CARE!
ok… meds are kickin in…time for a nap… zzzz.
The chair is against the wall.
Re: DPK, aka Tree Violator.
I have to take DPK’s side on this one. This tree is an ex of mine from a few years ago. This tree is a liar and you can’t believe a word ‘it’ says.
if the UH recruit is your “star witness”, you are in trouble
I wonder if the tree was telling her tree friends that it was the first time with a toothpick.
liz – i hope i never catch your flu bug the few seconds i seen you at tip top yesterday
Al, excellent questions. To me Tyler needs to reassess his goals for the season. The chance to be #1 QB and to lead the team are gone. If he has any expectations in that regard, he is in for great disappointment. If that is what he craves, he should try to catch on with a 1AA team right now. Portland State?
On the other hand he will probably grow much more as a person if he sticks it out here, accepts his role as a backup QB, makes up his grades, and graduates. That would show maturity and personal development. AND, as he does that, who knows what happens during the course of this long season?
st…..is there a no issue on uniforms numbers 12, 14, and 15?
why #12?
Wait, the tree was female wasn’t it?
If not was it a son of a beech or a son of a birch?
This office is prepared to offer the WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM to anybody that comes forward with information that leads to a conviction. We are specifically interested in interviewing alleged witness “Gloves Guy”
ROFLMAO!
dang homey. cut em some slack.
i was thinking cowboy matchstick.
good thing wasn’t a pine with all that tar
or a maple with all that syr……..
okay
i apologize.
darn that homey
he always brings the you know what out of me.
okay time to esme….
btw, where has that girl been?
is she on probation?
4pm can’t come soon enough. We need to get off this DPK vs tree conversation. BTW – who instigated this conversation?? Oh yeah, it was ST.
esme…
So on one side we have DPK and star witness Mr. Gloves who was flogging himself much the same way DPK was flogging the tree. Oh, and FloridaTed, who was 5,000 miles away when the incident occurred.
On the other side, as actual eye witnesses, we have ST, Stretch, Mike the El Supremo, Princess Leila, SJ, Myki, Jaymes Song and me. Other possible witnesses are DaveR., Kanoa Leahey, and Mr. Linkner. It should be noted that DPK was sucking up to the last three so there testimony may (or may not) be compromised.
jojo – you lurking? Tell jeje, be there next week Thursday morning practice.
Hi Faye!
Hi Esme!
DPK – I apologize if you were offended by the others comments. But I gotsta know, was that the best piece of Ash you ever had?
I never dared to find out for myself. I woke up after 9am and was almost late for work so it all came together for the best.
Thanks SteveM.
A-House – They are staying in Gainesville from the 27th and only in Orlando on the 30th. I guess they will have to be on their own, unless there is something planned in Gainesville on the morning of the game.
Homey – TMI
Stretch -ditto for you as well!
DPK – I’m shocked…*turns and leaves*
Suddenly my work calendar cleared up a bit and I see that airfare to Orlando on AA is only $783 and airfare to Portland on Hawaiian is $502.
But, my wife is gonna kill me.
KAZZ – I thought about you and your “favorite” radio personality as I listened this morning. At least I could listen to ST talk about dancing around in his underwear (again TMI). The negative vibes he is always promoting are starting to get on my nerves as well. I’d rather have the Leaheys on three times a week.
Be advised this office will be sending an all female task force to interview suspect DPK. They will also be inspecting and photographing all physical evidence including any alleged weapon.
i will never have the quality of jokes that homey seems to come up with.
So how come nobody is staying in Gainesville? Got several hotels with vacancies within five miles of the stadium.
Rob (forever 21) – LOL. “A la Tom Cruise”.
homey,
Thursday is prolly good. Jaymie, is thursday am practice next week good for you?
FloridaTed,
Maybe thass why I saw the name Ted carved into a big heart on the trunk.
Rob6.022 – What is so TMI about my stick joke?
FYI…
I’ll be at the OSU game with my uncle. Staying in Portland 11th -14th at the Hilton in downtown. I’m definitely up for getting together.
Portland City Grill for pau hana is usually pretty awesome (kind of pricey) but the food, drinks, 30th floor view and piano bar make it fun.
Henry’s 12th street tavern with over 100 beers on tap (in the old Henry Winehardts brewery) is also a good place to eat/drink and be merry.
I will let jeje know about Thursday. He will bring pie.
DPK – morning practice now! Shall we meet by a tree?
chawan – and I will never have the audio visual skills you possess.
WarriorMojo — no, no–you don’t want to go to Portland for a whole $502 RT. Then you’ll probably have to book a room at the Radisson Portland Airport for another $50 and have Stretch, g-nalo, Sleez, and brew808 pounding on your door at all hours to eat, imbibe and get you to the game somehow… 😉
Thanks jojo!
Loa – You going on Thursday?
Northwest Airlines non-stop direct flight
Leave HNL Wednesday Sept 10 (10pm – overnight..arrive Sept 11) – $409.90 including taxes
or Leave HNL Friday Sept 12 (overnight and arrive 7am game day) – also $409.90 including taxes
this price is with a Monday morning return so you don’t get back to Oahu until Monday afternoon
for the OSU game
I was just scanning the blog today and found this:
. . . I don’t even want to know!
SteveM – is there a cap on the Aug. 30th Genji meeting?
homey,
no skillz here.
just a bunch of lame.
Homey…right now we have a reservation for 36. I think at last count it was 31 attending. I think the max we can go is around 40 or so…..
People who want to go to GENJI’s to watch the FLORIDA/UH game let me know via e-mail at jgo8464822@aol.com
Check Steve M’s website for more details.
Payment will be accepted at the door.
Warrior Mojo,
This may be of interest to you: “Possible Shakespearean theater found in London”
http://www.yahoo.com/s/930302
Since Calvin is talking about the OSU game
If there is anyone who is going to the game and will be staying in the Portland area, the Tsaiko group is looking at getting a bus to/from the game. Right now we have abot 15 people so not too cost effective. If there are more who take the bus, it will bring down the cost per person. If interested, please email be at stretch6592 at yahoo.
what’s this about “pine”ing for dpk?
Well, tree’s a crowd.
See you at practice at 4
WarriorMojo — no, no–you don’t want to go to Portland for a whole $502 RT. Then you’ll probably have to book a room at the Radisson Portland Airport for another $50 and have Stretch, g-nalo, Sleez, and brew808 pounding on your door at all hours to eat, imbibe and get you to the game somehow…
WM – yes you do, then Stretch, Sleez, and Brew will stop pounding on MY door. i’ll buy you a hot dog at the game, deal? 🙂
OSU game:
I vote for the “Riverview [all you can eat] Mongolian Grill” in Corvallis after tha game. Then “roll” on back to Portland (it’s not very far), to really celebrate the victory.
LizK,
get well soon
In searching for ways to watch Warrior Football for us LoCals, I came across a site lsufootball.net that shows all the TV times for college football enmasse. Great Resource!
However, they List the Hawaii – Florida game as Raycom Sports/ESPNGamePlan/ Yahoo.
WTH is Yahoo and how do I possibly get the game on the internet? Does anybody know? ST? Garret?
Inquiring. minds need to know
(J)J – I can just sit at the bar if more room is needed. Me and UHfan808 can look at pictures.
Stretch,
How many you need to make it cost effective? What is the max?
BTW (J)J, Genji’s does have a satellite feed for the game right?
Izzy — where are you and wafan staying at in Portland?
Homey…actually, we’ll be watching it tape delayed….LMAO
We’ll be at the Radisson Airport “Ward” along with the rest of the Tsaikos.
Don’t know if we’ll drive, train or shuttle there yet.
shhhhh, homey — we’ll worry about that detail later. Worse case is part of the breakfast cost is a round trip bus to gigi’s house. 🙄
I thought “Genji’s” was code for Gigi’s.
Do you accept bits of string for payment? 😆
Hi Dennis!
According to this link, Gameplan games can be seen on espn360.com. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/gameplan/index
Need a satellite feed for the game? 😯
SteveM – gigi’s house eh. I wonder if hubby rather go genji’s than watch the game with her? get all you can eat breakfast!
Kazz…depends on what kind of “string” is brought….LOL
and we’re just going to pop in a beta tape of the UH/Nevada game from last season….LMAO
kden home if you love your country “show dem to me” bwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa or auwhoooooooooooooooooooooooo
It also seems that the people that call in really FEED off of that kind of talk.
There is optimism and then there is BLIND faith. However it seems that people that are inclined to that way of thinking always seem to believe that those that are optimistic are just “fooling themselves”.
People like that can say whatever they want, be WE ALL HERE love this team and love this school.
Besides there is only so many hours in the day to be negative and doubtful.
Isn’t life full of challenges enough that we do not need to start creating negative feelings within ourselves?
Sure if we lose, whatever, move on and believe in the next one.
Last season’s triumphs gave us the fans so much to be proud of and Coach Mack and Jim Donovan are going to give us MORE to be proud of in the near and distant future.
Just gotta believe.
What the hell is “beta”?
Kazz – I’m with you brother…I’m a believer. Even Bobby Curran didn’t think that UH could go undefeated last year. That’s what made last year so special…so many believed that we could do it; the team, the coaches and the fans. I’m very excited about the future of the program.
GO WARRIORS!!

Now that James has the TV-Gate on the 30th all set up, I ‘ll work on the Karaoke Call that is coming up in 10 days. Since it has a tailgate-like component and fuud, fuud, fuud (and an occasional bar or three)– I’ll start trying to coordinate (or at least list) the potluck food items soon.
We never, ever got the potluck and Tsaiko–Gate food under control last year– looked like 12 people were bringing something but in reality 40 people did and there was enough food for 3 days. Same as the last Krazy Karaoke Call –well, enough leftover for 2 days only but it was supposed to be only heavy pupu and snacks for an 8:00 PM party 😐
But first….
😆 😀 😆
THE BIG KARAOKE CALL
Saturday – August 16, 2008
Krazy Karaoke 8:00 PM – 12:00 midnight (minimum)
The large room at the Young Street Krazy Karaoke holds at least 55 persons. STRETCH has made the reservation and put down the deposits.
Same arrangement as last April 19’s Krazy Karaoke Call…
• bring your own drinks (this room has a lot more cooler space)
• bring snacks and pupu’s (optional)
• $15 per person to cover room rental/karaoke
• pay Stretch or designee at the door that night
Current RSVP Count = 46

Thx Ronnie and Jack Flash.
My DSL provider, DSL Extreme does not give the ESPN thread.
So still looking for help through Yahoo.
Jack, I emailed a question to them awhile earlier today and no response yet
This thread is starting to hit home as a former Forestry Major. Splinter group I guesss>
okay, video may not work for some of you.
Rob25,
LOL, yeah the “homer” said 12-0 could not be done last season, but at the same token, at least BC didn’t go off on a rant about how the team was “exposed” on the road against LaTech last season and how the boys were believing their own hype..yadda yadda yadda….
Ok that’s enuff of focusing in on “whatshisface”.
Looks like the Florida Gators just lost their star tight end with a knee injury. This guy was going to most likely be a 1st round pick.
ryan – hope the gators are at full strength when the Warriors play them because we don’t want to hear any excuses when the gators fail to upset the Warriors.
300
Thanx for da scoop ryan
gators look like their hurtin: secondary guyz academic casualties (c’mon Oline give da QB time and their 2ndary can be exposed), TE knee, harvin ankle. if can can, if no can – nevamind thinkin like dat 🙂
Kazz…
You are sooo right about “Bling Faith” vs. belief. I was always a believer in the attitude, “On any given Saturday (or Sunday)”. If things went right and plans fell into place, with heart and talent, games could be won. There is something to be said about heart. Yes, all heart and no talent can’t win games no matter how hard you try or how much you want to win. But the reverse is also true, I’ve seen teams with some of the best talent out there finish with mediocre seasons because they didn’t have heart…no love for the game itself and no teamwork mentality. There needs to be a balance between those two ideals. I think Hawaii has that. What we may lack in size, speed, or talent, we make up for in heart….it just all needs to be put together.
And like you said, if we lose, we lose. We just move on and fight another day….one snap and clear right?
Hi Koakane…getting ready to go to practice soon.
Kazz – On last thing…it was kinda funny to hear BC say how Mike McCartney (sp) is being an egomaniac because he’s positive his system will work with anyone when that’s basically JJ’s belief and BC kept saying that all the time. Yadda, yadda his system works against anyone just gotta tweak it sometimes. It gets so bad on Wednesday sometimes that I have to turn on my Ipod and not listen to the radio.
What’s with all the injuries to Florida?
(J)J – yo yo yo bro, I gots da Bling Faith. Wanna roll in my dubs and hang with the hommies?
Also sounds like Florida RB Rainey who did really in the spring game has a groin injury as well but should only be out for a couple of days
Calvin from Kona- we are looking for anoddah OSU game ticket… for a Tsai-ko… you got???
homey – LMAO…oops…Bling=Blind…..but I’ll roll with da hommies…we can check out da chicks in dem apple bottom jeans and boots with fur…MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Esme out…gotta get to practice…gonna be late now.
The undercover unit will be at practice today……
Jack Flash, Dennis,
Here’s the Raycom home page with UF/UH event listed on bottom right
http://www.raycomsportsmarketing.com/
Haven’t used this site before- hopefully free viewing for all.
Dennis
Here’s the Hawaiian Telcom Media(HTSportsNet.com) link I used last year to view UH games.
Haven’t seen any info on the upcoming 2008 FB schedule.
http://www2.hawaiiantelmedia.com/
homey,
you’re a little “premature” there with your 300.
Good afternoon Tsaikos. this info is for our southern cal tsaikos. United airlines is running a special from LAX to most of their destinations. The tickets need to be purchased by Aug 8th. Saw LAX/SFO is $55 ea way, LAX/Orlando is $379 round trip in Sept. You need to go to united.com for more info.
And to add salt to the wound, Hawaiian charges $250 round trip from Kahului/Honolulu. Sheeeeeesssshhhhh!! Who they trying to kid??
Sup Gang…
So yesterday I posted some highlight videos showcasing Cory Nielsen and Deondre Powell and it got erased…what da heo??? What’s the harm, we all like see what we getting so WTF!!!
oooohhh. so tempted to make fun of post #303, but, this is a family blog.
oooh!
we just got new HD channels on Oceanic! they’re getting ready for the Olympics! go check it out when you go home.
and i forgot, Hawaiian puts kerosene in with the salt when you fly with them inter-island, $25 for the 2nd bag (round trip is $50), the after Sept, $17 for the 1st bag and $25 for the 2nd when flying to the mainland. you end up paying $84 extra on top of the the high cost of flying with them. But putting salt, kerosene in your wound is nothing because they also added arsenic by asking you to write to Congress to complain about the hight fuel cost. You ask for help, charge more for the airfare, add baggage charges, and make it more costly to use your miles, either you think that the people are your friend and that is the way to do business in Hawaii or we are stupid!! Answer is none of the above as Hawaiian management has no concept about how people care and share in Hawaii.
IGNORE THIS POST IF YOU DON’T GIVE A CHIT!!!
It’s time to start looking toward 2009 and California will be stocked with top prospects, especially at quarterback. Here is an early look at the top prospects from the Golden State…we already got 2 of them so far…
QUARTERBACKS
This is easily the best and deepest group of quarterbacks in years. Barkley, who’s committed to USC, is the top prospect nationally, regardless of position, but the race for #2 will be tight. Nunes, Brehaut, Evans and Forcier all have been longtime prospects. NorCal will have a strong group of passers, one of their best in a while, with Jensen, Southwick and Carta-Samuels leading the list.

Brown is another top prospect from that area. Gaffney is the best from San Diego while Yarnway will be one of NorCal’s finest.

RECEIVERS
Jefferson is the best receiver prospect from the West and will be a national recruit. Flournoy, a commit to USC, had a huge junior season, as did fellow Trojan commit Carroll. Jackson and Roberts could also play on defense. Evans is this year’s Kemonte Bateman, using the B2G before his junior year to explode onto the scene.

Liz ~ Go back sleep!
Thx for feedback on UH-Fla game search.
Very strange
Raycom does Live broadcast of game but no internet on SEC games, though they do the ACC both ways.
Some of the good old boys have conspired.
I have searched for over two hours and three wine coolers(Even Balboa was humid today) but no happiness yet.
I will sic Garret on them unless they come clean.
Anybody else trying?
Bwahahaha~
Liz-
How you feeling.? Just saw all the morning postings.
I’m worried about ya. Rest is needed. Your such a die hard fan :>
whitey — some of us will really hurt if the airlines imposed a passenger excess weight surcharge. Like $1 per pound over the base 150. ooops–better not give ’em ideas 🙁
Hi Mav, I went to the Dr. this AM. She said FLU and gave me Tamiflu (puts me to sleep), ibuprofen for body aches (considerable) and a week off from work to rest. Dunno if I want to take a whole week but depends on how I feel. She said going back too early is a recipe for a relapse.
I’m sleeping, eating chx soup and checking the blogs a little…
Sleeping is good!
Mahalo for your kind thoughts and prayers!
people not flying because of all the additional cost is starting to catch up with the airline and believe it or not, you can fly to Portland to watch the UH game on Sept 6th about the same fare as stretch paid back in february, $360 plus all the service and baggage charge from Honolulu. somehow the high fuel cost is not applicable to Portland fliights. hahahahahaaaaaaahhhhh!!!
PB, thanks for the info on this year’s players. saw one name of interest, Mailiu Penitani. He related to the yokokuzana in sumo??
LizK, my best to you and hope it is just a passing thing. take care.
SteveM, i would not rule out that it is being considered. they got rid of movies, meals, magazines, bags, etc.
al, since get plenty room on HA, you and mrs going to the oregon state game? forgot to mention that airlines are like the dark side merchants. TAKE, TAKE, TAKE until broke!!! LOL!!!
whitey – I’ve been trying to get into contact with some of the local high schools in the area about there football programs. Couple weeks ago we had Colt Brennan’s school Mater Dei High come to base to hold a clinic for the military kids, they come often and are affiliated in a Marines for Monarchs program. Spoke with one of the coaches who coached Colt and asked if he could put in a good word to send more of his high profile players to Hawaii! Also, live right across the street from Vista Murrieta High, very big school, super nice facilities, and football field. Watched some of the football players working out on there own and chatted with a few. Excellent football team one of the up and coming programs in SoCal since they’ve only been playing since 2003. Went 11-1 in 2006 and 2007.
Funny too when I went on campus they thought I was a recruiter from Hawaii…lol..
brent farve traded to NY jets. just heard it on ESPN
Cover blown Pauoa Boy.
Mater Dei has a senior running back, Hyce who could be a great one. We will watch him catch balls from Barkley this year
We are down to one Monarch at UH so we need to add a few.
Anyone know where Cameron Carmona ended up in So Cal?
favre to the jets!
dang, koakane beat me
Brett the Jet!
J-E-T-S JetsJetsJets!~
So long Pennington you scrub mwahaha…
Liz –
Sleep. Sleep, Sleep. Throw some B12 in the mix in a few more days after you break the sweat.
We’ll keep the good mana flowing your way.
Hyce should be Hyche
Howzit Dennis Hollaran – I’ve heard of that kid isn’t his name Jaron Hytche though??? Anyway there’s a couple I left off that list, but those are the high profile, heavily recruited players in the state of california that I know of so far, there are others for sure…
no wonder i just heard this big scream from the manoa practice field that sounded like our blog host, when carry all the way to the cool central plains 🙂
The thing with Hytche though was that he was inconsistent running the ball last year, had some big games then dissapeared in others. I guess with Barkley though they threw the ball more. If they give him the ball more he could develop into a really good d1 back have to wait until after the season to make fair judgement on him…
Howzit gangees!
So what’s da scoops fom practice?
Am having a great day. Right now, at Waimea watching da gurlz swim. Parasailing was awesome. They let my kid go up twice. t
Then lunch, Dole Plantation, Matsumotos & here.
Time to get them outta da water.
Before anyone asks, da (21) is my phome.
Esme and out…
For the those who live on the mainland – I have just updated the website for locals who reside on the mainland, please check it out!
locals on the mainland
PB, thanks. Hope your back is better now. You might want to look up more info on hyluronic acid or HA. This is the stuff that helps make the cushion for joints and other parts of the body. Been using it for my knee and am able to walk with no pain.
A good running back that I like from the San Diego area is Tyler Gaffney. He’s big and very fast 6’1″ 215lbs. 4.4s 40yd. ran for over 1,500 yds. and had 29 TD’s on the season. Being heavily recruited by Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Stanford, Utah, SD State. This kid is a beast…
whitey – I see a specialist and chiro on Monday, we’ll see how it goes. It’s feeling better though I was actually able to touch my toes with minimal discomfort and do a few stretching excercises to loosen up my back a little…
that’s right.
the Tsai’s are J-E-T-S fans…
congrats!
awhhhhhhhh,
its been a long time waiting for the season to start
Yups, what’s the scoops on practice today, I know some of you was dea?
wow, with HD, the ESPN sportscasters have to cake on that makeup even more!
2008 Donruss football is out. RGM is still identified as “Ryan Grice-Mullen” on his card. At least Donruss used a picture of RGM (in a Texans uniform), unlike Upper Deck.
So I’m trying to think of last years group to the NFL…but cannot remember…hmm…lemme try…
Colt Brennan – Washington Redskins
Hercules Satele – Arizona Cardinals
Davone Bess – Miami Dolphins
C.J. Hawthorne – Buffalo Bills
Ryan Grice-Mullins – Chicago Bears
Jason Rivers – ???

A personal commentary from A-House:
Today, several prominent/contributing members of this blog chose to initiate and continue a dialouge which, in my opinion, to be crude, inappropriate and perhaps offensive to some readers.
I honor and respect their constitutional right of free speech.
But, did it bring honor, respect, or integrity to the founder of The Warrior Beat or this blog? You be the judge.
Many youngsters leaving home for college or the military in the past and present may have heard a/their parent(s) say, “what ever you do, do not bring shame to our family”. Until I pass, I will do everything to honor my late Mother’s request.
Howzit Tsaikos everywhere.
WarriorMojo, so you goin be in Florida in 23 days? Take a chance! Tell da wife you going visit friends. 😀
i told ya da akshun was gonna get supah intense. an i no inoke stay lookin good, but how about bradda Alexandah? lookin really good huh?!
you no Fla. get issues wen dare Dline guy gotta pack. anyway,
whatelse you an sjmacro observed today?
jm2375,
who is Lyn to you?
I’m sorry… I can’t resist. I have to tell you guys about how “out of it” some people are — so out of it that it’s kinda funny.
Towards the end of last season when all the BCS talk was going on, I told one of my very good friends (so don’t tease him too much) that I got to interview CB for the school paper. His reply: “Oh yeah, I’ve heard of him. He’s supposed to be pretty good or something, yeah?” I was about to cry.
I’ve also recently discovered that someone else doesn’t know who Bobby Curran is. I was in total shock!
Ok, that’s it. I’m done.
A-House – I’ve been told that one before- No Shame My Name! Gotta respect that. As for the posts, I personally wasn’t offended by the content. Public forums can tend to stray sometimes. But, it sure was tiring skipping over all that stuff!
Who’s Bobby Curran?
kelli,
did you really get to interview CB? cool! hope you have that print saved and framed!
SteveM,
After many exchanges of e-mails, it appears that I cannot set up another Cattle Call in the Bay Area in addition to the Saturday one. However, 808chef is trying to adjust his work schedule so that he can join us at the Palace BBQ! I do not think he would have been able to make it to San Bruno, but Sunnyvale is close enough to where he works that he might be able to make it back to work in time.
And I’m going to call for a huge Tsaiko tailgate for the SJSU game in 2009, with help from 808chef and others!
Dolphins news from the Sun-Sentinel.
Miami’s coach talked about their FB situation and seemed to already be identifying which FB would be making the team. Reagan isn’t mentioned by him at all.
ryan,
Looks like more definitive news about Corneliu Ingram’s knee won’t be known until tomorrow.
Now stuff from the Palm Beach Post. This is from a blog about the practice today.
With regard to Rainey, this writer is downplaying the groin injury and suggesting that he’ll be back soon.
watching ESPN, you think that Favre died or something. all they talk about is favre this, favre that. what is the news, all he did was go from GB to NY and they haven’t won any games this season.
Well Coach Meyer shows some “flexibility” in the way he schedules practice based on output. Practice today went an extra hour because the defense wasn’t performing well.
North Carolina used the wrong rules and incorrectly declared a football player ineligible! Their compliance people could have messed up this player’s life, as he’s now practicing with Valdosta State and has no guarantees for his athletic or academic future now.
LB Brandon Spikes didn’t take long to impress this incoming freshman.
Still no clear cut favorite at RB for the Geckos.
chawan_cut: Yes, I did. I got to meet him, RGM and the guys who wrote and choreographed the ha’a. Um, should I say this? Yeah, I will… CB and RGM autographed a lot of stuff for me. Since CB was a communications major and I think RGM was too, we actually had the same professor, but no classes together. There was one student who was in their class and my journalism class, but I remember her asking who CB was early in the season. LOL. Anyway, the professor recently retired, but she really helped me to get my interviews for the story, which turned out to be a final project thing for me. All the guys were really nice. Not to mention I attended one practice and got to see classmate Ralph Ieru from McKinley.
ST was nice enough to post the story link on the blog last fall, but it’s still alive if you’re interested. This isn’t my greatest, but it was definitely one of the coolest stories that I got to write.

Momotaro,
This years Playoff Prestige has RGM as Grice-Mullen also.
is there another reciever coming to hawaii via texas. Just saw something interesting from rivals today. ‘Alex Tweedy’ from Woodlands High is Texas.
I received a tip this morning that Alex Tweedy, a wide receiver from The Woodlands had committed to UNT. I went down this road a few weeks back, but called him back again to see if he had made up his mind.
I just got off the phone and Tweedy said that he has not committed to UNT.
As a matter of fact, he just picked up an offer from Hawaii today.
Tweedy said he would be narrowing down his options in the next few weeks, but as of now he has been offered by UNT, Hawaii, Air Force, Army and South Dakota State.
UNT still has four players who have committed thus far: WR Daniel Mayberry, OL Keenan Flax, CB Hilbert Jackson and DE Ryan Boutwell.
Mayberry’s coaches at Dallas Spruce said UNT’s coaches told them that they are only going to take one wide receiver in this class.
My observations from practice today.
If UH is going to “take advantage” of the alleged shortcomings in the secondary of the Geckos, the balls need to get there quicker.
Saw back-to-back plays in eleven’s that would have cost the team two of their top three slots in a real game; the receivers can’t expect the ball placement to always be where it will protect them when they catch it. (UH had a real special guy throwing the ball last year in that regard.)
Pass pro can improve; incl. from the RB position.
Defense is ahead of the offense; but that is no shocker to anyone.
The team is ready to go full pads already; they wanna hit, better to do it with protection.
kelli,
cool! great read!
Pauoa Boy:
Re: Jason Rivers
Jason went undrafted but was signed by the Tennessee Titans as a free agent.
http://www.titansonline.com/team/players/bio.php?PRKey=459
Izzy,
Jason Rivers was unfortunately cut by the Titans. That is why Pauoa Boy was asking about him.
Nice article about Wes Suan. I didn’t realize just how far back his link to JJ went.
Kelli
I thought the article was excellently done. Very informative, to the point, and lots of human(ess). Keep up the good work.
Nice photo of Bess focusing on catching a pass.

Garret,
Wow!
I wonder who #2 son will meet in McMinnville this year?
Speaking of #2 son.
It was also interesting to see 2 of his former teammates out there today: from All-State to All-Stare in a few short months!
USA loses to Denmark 2-0, Hope Solo was in the goal…maybe she still has her foot in her mouth after blasting her prior coach for playing Scurry as she remarked that she would have made the saves against the Brazilians.. Bachi big time…
A-House ~
I admire your quiet and courageous stand made to right the blog ship. I myself was remiss for not stepping forward to curb the direction the email ‘conversations’ were headed. Remaining silent was not being very responsible, and for that I apologize.
I hope we all think more highly of our fellow male or female Tsai-ko’s and be more sensitive to their feelings. After all, it is about preserving our unprecedented fellowship. I think we all know where that fine line must be drawn. Let’s all pledge to take the high road and remain on the ‘right’ side of it.
Kelli ~
RE: #362
I remember reading the article and thinking. Whoa?…Ha’a!…Thanks for educating the fans in your very well researched story. As a Kanaka Maole, well known for residing out here on the ceded lands of the Wessai, I’m very happy to see a young lady of Asian descent take exception to all things Hawaiian.
I’m looking forward to meeting you at the K-call on the 16th. Maybe you can help me and The Punch Bowl Menehune re-write an all Hawaiian cheer for the Warriors.
Well, despite the encouragement, I opted not to take a picture of the tree.
Was that the result of an “arbor-ous” deliberation?
more like an executive “branch” decision
chawan_cut and mp: Thanks! Hopefully greater stories are coming as I return to Ka Leo for the fall. Most of my classmates from the journalism program are on the news desk, so I didn’t have any sports stories last semester and it seems like that’s where I’m headed again. The new news editor already e-mailed me an assignment. Just dandy! I think she’s trying to get ready for the semester, which is actually pretty smart.
Kekoa: Thank you. Living in Hawaii and being a reporter provides an excellent opportunity to become familiar with the different cultures. The ha’a is such a unique part of the team and I’m with Dr. Kanalu Young’s take on it — he told me how proud he was of the players for sharing the Hawaiian culture with the rest of the team.
Thanks hawaiianbod! We’ll try to make it to the morning practice on Saturday.
Liz- rest & lots of fluids always works for me. Take care!
djmitcho,
I like that card because it has RGM in his UH uniform. But the Donruss Threads card is autographed. I’m hoping to pick up one of the Donruss Threads cards for cheap. Jason Rivers also has an autographed Donruss Threads card in a Titans uniform.
guys….seriously don’t get all caught up with the injuries coming out of florida. an elite program like florida is not only 2 deep at every position but 3-4 deep as a matter of fact.
their annual recruits list 3,4, and many a five star athlete. programs so well established as florida have more talent than they really should have and/or need.
our team just needs to focus on perfecting what we do and how we do it. the coaches will craft a game plan that gives us the best chance to win. thats what we can hope for, sending our team as best prepared as possible and hopefully we will outsmart and out hustle them. we need to be as focused as we can. that is how we will beat them.
…nuff said
Evening Tsaikos!
Finally back home from a long day. Did a lot of driving. Lessee, Kailua to Hawaii Kai to Pearlridge to Wahiawa/Haleiwa/Waimea to Kapahulu to Kahala to Hawaii Kai and finally home to Kailua. Had a great time. Recommend parasailing to everyone not afraid of heights.
bhf2 – Lyn is my cuz on my mom’s side. Her mom & my grandpa were siblings.
OK, Boots and Kimos tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
I notice most of the preseason games are on sirius, is sirius available in Hawaii…Washington will be on network TV the 4th week of preseason games…
Video interview with Colt by a Redskins TE in case you haven’t seen it:
Link from Tombo Ahi: http://chriscooley47.blogspot.com/2008/08/20-questions-colt-brennan-and-boozie.html
I wonder if that “screen phone” that Colt’s flipping around near the end of the video is the same phone he can’t text on. What’s he got there? LG Dare? Samsung Instinct? iPhone? Hm…
jm2375 ~ Is this the number of gallons of gas you used today? Wow gurl, you logged more miles than a cross country trucker!…Musta been fun tho – keeds screamin,’ brakes squealin,’ fast food wrappers all ovah da ka’awela. Yee Haw! Summertime in Hawaii Nei!
Wow Rob25! You sumbodi eh?! Make us all wondah?…who’s that person ST spotted sitting next to you? Nah, nah…j/k! Practice must have been a hoot! Don’t get much better than that…except maybe when we ‘pulehu’ gator tails!
Good morning Tsaikos!
Ralph,
I don’t think sirius is available in Hawaii based on the current satellite footprint. Click on my name for link. I think they will be putting up more satellites in the future to possibly expand the footprint.
99club ~ Good Morning!…Sirius doesn’t seem interested in expanding their footprint. Coverage by their ‘birds’ are ’bout the same as about 5 years ago.
I guess we gotta depend on scrambling around the internet finding backdoors and such to find the games ignored by the media. Otherwise, it’s the expensive packages from the cable companies.
At least we’ll be able to watch the Gators get flushed down their own swamp rat hole while enjoying a local style breakfast at Genji’s on the 30th!
On the 30th I hope ST post a new thread by 3 am HST…after reading the HA morning issue and the thread all I need is a few east coast guys up to keep me going for a couple hours then I can helle on to Genji, don’t need to sleep the hype and adrenaline will be enough…
if Hiflyer and PB’s brother get off late friday night or early saturday morning we can chat before heading out to Genji’s.
So SteveM when will the doors to Genji’s open on game day.
Hey Ralph – I’m stopping by Lisa’s Place before heading downtown. Make sure they got a loud crowd in da house!..Hehehe…
what time does Lisa’s close, I may join you if they have a cabaret permit to open until 4 am
Kekoa maybe we can have a Wessai gathering at Lisa’s place before heading to Genji’s…Koakane are you with us….
Good morning Tsaikos everywhere!
Kekoa,
howzit howzit. yesterday fball practice wit da Keaau Courgas JV.
AHouse
yu right, your name, respect it. i’m assuming da chastise wuz da yakkin about da inu wendo an da vulgarahtee wit da tree, an references to …. 😀
so i goin lightin yu up in a nice way. akchally when i got home from practice an was catchin up wit yu guyz, my dark side, an nite time i get plenny dark sides 😀 wuz tinkin about dat sik huumah an my vishun went to da old Saturday Post poster i got somewhere downstairs – wit da runner on first base lookin at da pitcha an gettin ready fo leave da bag an steal second, an da first baseman standin dare wit his gloved right hand hanging, him whistlin, got his left hand holdin da ball on his left hip but hiding it from da runner, and he pretendin to look in da direkshun ah da pitcha but akchally his eyes slanted down towards da head ah da runnah, da pitcha akkin like he gettin ready fo windup (but he no mo ball, which is why i taut of da pitcha in da first place as i was readin da thread today). classic funny da postah. an i wouldn’t have thought about all dat if my funny bone wasn’t …. you get the idea. 😀
AHouse, wat yu tink, summa da braddas neva take Communication at UH? 😀 Me tooo… 😆
99club isn’t the sun already shining in Texas?
d1Shima,
regarding the slow connections you saw today, what you figah?
akchally, dats da vibes i get all day way ovah heeah in Hilo, jus
watchin da tv reruns ah da guyz throwin.
imo, da sweepin runnin qb is Inoke. da mo accurate throwin qb is inoke. but da fastah passin/delivery qb is alexandah. is dat wat yu tinkin too?
i’m also tinkin dat to get da runnahs outta da backfield an into a pass catchin situation, da oline gotta hold fo mo time. u tinkin day can do dat job?
an i’m tinkin about your comment “all State” to “all Stare,” for at least one ah da braddaz, gotta clear up da legal pikcha first, no like drag down da team. This is the best that can be done right now because when/if the trial thing heats up, its gonna heat up. This keeps it clean for the team all the while the action lets the young men know that the coaches still support them. The maxim “timing is everything” is so true! They’ll get their chances. Gotta take care of the past things first.
Ralph
howzit howzit.
Thanks for helping with the JUGS! 😀
If you get chance, show yo face at a praktiss.
Lucky you live ova there,
drumroll……..
23 days and counting!
three weeks till we catch da plane.
three weeks till i die my hair.
three weeks till i put da panko on da face.
three weeks till i take da bannah off da wall
(i use em fo shade ova da windows) an
hele on to Gainesville via MCO an da CC.
three weeks till my kids video da game so i can see rerunz
of the Warrior Wreckers.
i still get visions of Georgia in NOLa. i no foget dat one. Grrr..
Go Warriors…
I was planning on going yesterday, wednesday, but i had a slow start and decided to pass on it…might check it out today at 4 pm if someone gives me a heads up whether the 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 is worth the effort of driving in traffic. but next Wednesday for sure, practice in pads, real action
the georgia DE played for the Colts last week, never touched Colt…to be successful our o line got to produce for us to score, and we will score, but the question is how many points can be score with the starting o line with the 3 amigos from last season in place. All we need is one more point than Florida then you take out your banana and whip out all over Gainesville.
You got to post earlier to catch D1shima, he goes to bed before more senioir citizens – around 11….
oops before most senior citizens…must be late
so the last half hour i was catchin up on today’s odda paypah and the HA and reading about the QBs, their coach and the haps. when a guy comes into town, stands super tall, and loses 20 pounds by extra exercise, with all the hype coming from his last place of business, and then there is this other superhot QB and they’re all getting good press, i’m tinkin that the separation is gonna start now. you’ll see it, the receivers will see it. its how they look off the defenders and how quick the ball gets to the spot, and the cool confidence, that is the separation maker, imo.
Hiya!
Chx soup, gimchi and da blog… mmm.
So what your saying is that Alexander may be the starting QB?
http://theredskinsblog.com/
“I woke up this morning with the feeling that a huge roster move was going to be in the offing. Would the team have made a move for Brett Favre? Probably not — everyone here had been pretty blunt about that. But what about if Favre had gone to Tampa, and Jeff Garcia was available? Or if the Vikings cut Frerotte to make room for Favre, and my old In Gus We Trust shirt was going to become relevant again?
So when I got into Redskins Park today and saw a note on my computer, I was completely unsurprised. I knew by then that Favre had gone to the Jets and that the Jets were planning to release Pennington, so I figured that the Skins had decided to add an experienced West Coast QB to heighten competition at the backup spots.
Not exactly, but almost as exciting: “We signed free agent safety Justin Hamilton and released FB/TE Pete Schmitt.” A huge roster move indeed.”

Interesting. I keep forgetting that this is the NFL and you can be gone at any moment.
LizK go to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Redskins Report (humor)
Following up on Chris Cooley’s video interview of Colt and roomey yesterday, Clinton Portis got the next set of viewer questions:
http://chriscooley47.blogspot.com/
“One of the 20 questions was a celebrity offense. I looked no further than Clinton Portis to field this question. I think the pictures speak for themselves.
QB – Uncle Rico
FB – Mr. T. (Actually looks like our current fullback)
RB – Kung Fu Joe (Clinton choose him to fill his shoes)
TE – The Joker
WR – Forest Gump
WR – Sam Rockwell (Actually his character in The Green Mile)
T – Dewey Cox
G – Shrek
C – Rambo
G – The Terminator
T – Hightower (From Police Academy and did play in the NFL)”

Getting a sense of what to expect from the next Redskins preseason game. Bad for the WR (injuries) corps but good for the rookies – including Colt!
BTW- NFL Network is broadcasting the preseason games. That’s good news for satellite customers (I have Dish)!
Pomai- I’ve been sleeping since about 8pm and just got up to eat and take meds.
This is what I’ve been waiting for- how the starters see Colt. Here’s Fred Smoot.
http://homermcfanboy.blogspot.com/2008/08/according-to-fred.html
We’ll here’s your chance to get even. Tell me how the rookie head coach did in his debut.
“He did well,” said Smoot, declining to fire back at Jim Zorn for selling him out on the conditioning test. “He did well. He showed you a few things out there. The thing about it, I think he did a great job – especially with him being an offensive guru. Come on, I think our quarterbacks probably missed four or five passes out there today, man. Every one of them that got in looked like they’d been there before, even Colt Brennan. It’s his first game and he looked real well. We gotta catch up with the offense. They’re looking real good. On defense, we gotta make sure we ain’t the ones losing games.”
That’s not really something fans should spend too much time worrying about. The ‘Skins defense finished in the top 10 last year, and the addition of Jason “McDreamy” Taylor, as well as players like Carlos Rogers and Rocky McIntosh getting healthy in time for the start of season would suggest the defense has all the tools to be just as dominant in 2008.
Colt -vs- Brett?
Redskins Aug 16 @ Jets 7pm ET Comcast/ WUSA

“WOW. The meaningless preseason game a week from Saturday at the Jets suddently turned into a mega-media event with the trade late last night of superstar QB Brett Favre from Green Bay to New York. It’s doubtful that the Hall of Fame lock will play after less than a week of practice with his new team, but the game will be the Jets’ first at home since the trade and Gang Green will surely be out in full force to roar its approval of its new hero. Favre will be 39 in October, but he gives Jets fans hope that their team, 4-12 last year, can be a contender again. New York won just three playoff games the past 21 seasons, but Favre’s acquisition summons memories of the glorious 1968 season when Joe Namath and the Jets ruled the football world.”
Good morning Tsaikos,
Have a productive day!
Hi Bulla!
‘kay…meds are starting to hit and it will be naptime again.
I’m still trying to sort out the possible conflict comimg down the pike for the Tsaimeister—
Colt? Jets?
Colt? Jets?
Who to root for?
Then there’s gigi:
Colt? Brett?
Colt? Brett?
Nitey nite!
liz,
get some rest, get better…..sweet dreams….
Great Morning All!
Ralph,
Eh you buggah! Take it EEZY widda Senior references; I still pay full price at McDonald’s!
bhf2,
I think it wouldn’t be a bad thing if the JC guys learned the offense sooner than later.
As far as the two freshman, BOTH of them are on the team. As I remarked to the parents of one of them, they just starting all over again now and that means doing plenny watching for now. A year ago they were getting most of the reps; that day will come again for both of ’em.
btw, I haven’t quoted the stuff about the Geckos’ players’ legal woes but to see the things that Urban Meyer is contending with gives some perspective to the issue that bhf2 made reference to earlier.
…and then there’s this gem.
I won’t spend the time looking up all the issues that Mark Richt had to deal with this past off-season….
’nuff sed
Morning, Tsaiko-Nation and Tsai-Meister,
Great reporting from camp.
Sofar it’s going about as well as I’ve expected. I have full confidence that we’ll be as ready as can be for the opener.
Have a great day everybody.
al,
I realize that the Geckos are very deep at all positions. If you look at the blog site I am pulling the stuff from, these are the noteworthy items that the Orlando Sentinel writer has chosen. Injuries are something that are focused on by THEIR writer as significant news items. I’m just relaying the info.
UH going be lining up against eleven 3,4 and 5 star athletes in all phases of the game; maybe it’s significant to note which ones have D1 experience and which ones only played against 16 and 17 year-olds, maybe not?
LizK,
Hopefully by this time you went back to bed. If not….wea da slippah!?!? haha
Get well soon! 🙂
HiHo
Good Morning Tsaikos! Hope everyone has a good day.
Good Morning Tsaikos and Tsaikettes!
Liz-
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Please get better soon. The blog is not the same without you, not that a cold would keep you away.
Give the Kauai contingency my aloha.
I am freezing my okole off here in SF. Every day seems to get colder and colder. Finally turned up the thermostat….aaaaaahhhhhh.
I think we are going to eat some crab today.
Rob25-
That is a nice picture of you and Nalani Choy.
Wow, it’s a quiet morning in the Tsaiko village
Wassssup Tsaiko Peeps!
I agree with A-sports. SF is freekin’ freezin’. I wen stow away in her luggage fo’ get hea. Da plane’s cargo hold was warmer than this.
Today we going stomp some crab.
UHFan-
No worries. Da mission is a go.
Have one awesome day everybody. Pray I don’t fall into da bay….I going sink like one stone.
d1shima,
When you look a little closer, even with homer eyes, you can see that we also have quite a number of 3 and 4 star athletes, if fairly assessed.
But it is one thing to be a 5 star athlete as a freshman with no experience, vs a 3 star senior with four years of starting. I’ll take the latter anytime.
Sure the Gators have a lot of talent, but so have we. We have no reason at all to be intimidated.
Football is played on the gridiron.
Time to play the Gators!
Looks like Colt’s bottom is better…
http://theredskinsblog.com/
“Colt Brennan completed a nice long arcing pass over the defense to Anthony Mix on his first snap in 7-On-7 drills.
…
The pass rush looked very strong in today’s practice, and there have been times where Carter and Taylor together have looked dominating. Both first- and second-team offenses came up short in two minute drills, largely because of the aggressive defense, but it was interesting to watch Coach Zorn get with the quarterbacks after every play.
The quarterbacks and equipment guys finished the day trying to hit the crossbar from about 20 yards away. How’d it go? “Everyone missed,”says Todd Collins. A minute later, Derek Devine leaves the field. “Got one on the last try,” he says with a smile. “Just gotta keep trying.” Assistant equipment manager Anders Beutel backs him up. “Yeah, he got one, but everyone else was gone.” Nevertheless, Jason Campbell remains skeptical. “We have no proof,” he says. But Anders backed him up. “Oh, Anders backed him up? Probably paid him off.””
Oh Yeah,
ALOHA KAKAHIAKA!
Just woke up to sign some papers for #3 son before he heads off to school. Man, that Tamiflu is a knock-out. I feel better but am still staying home to rest and blog.
Nobody believes Hawaii will win. That’s a good thing. Keep thinking like that. Take us cheap.
First game of the season and we’re gonna shock the nation!
I love it! Bring on the Gator meat! Let the feast commence!
Take care Liz
*DPK stands to the side of addahknowjoe, snarling and growling, foamin’at the mouth, nodding his head in agreement…*
Good morning all y’all. Have a great day! 🙂
I am so glad that I see more and more people come to the realization that we will in fact win in da swamp.
Good morning!
Having 1st cup of coffee to wake-up!
Liz – Rest, rest, rest. Hope the Tamiflu is working for you.
Kekoa – I was ready to collapse by the time we got home at 10. I wen immediately go bocha. Woke me up for about an hour, but then was off to the land of dreams…
bhf2 – so is Jerry a lurker? If so, get ’em to post! Pretty good for a guy from Indiana, yeah?
Thanks for the reports from practice. I hope that we’re seeing bigger day-to-day improvement from all units everyday.
Good morning everyone!
Not sure if anyone posted it already, but I just noticed Colt has another entry on the Redskin blog (dated Tuesday Aug 5).
http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=36944
Good Morning Tsaikos!!
Watching practice yesterday, the Tsaikos were pretty well represented. It was kind of already mentioned in ST’s article this morning, but it appears that the QB’s need to get comfortable with the live pass rush. They looked like they had some “happy feet” with the dline putting the pressure on. With time, they will get more comfortable and it will also give time for the o-line to get used to working along side each other. We don’t have much time but I am confident we’ll be okay by the time Florida rolls around.
Being a kicker & long snapper must be really boring. There was a soccer team practicing on the lower field so they were left to being spectators for most of the practice.
Can’t attend practice today but I hope more progress is made.
d1島…..good morning brother.
my comment was not a dig on you. i just wanted others who would get too excited about that kind of stuff not to get overly involved in that kind of hype. i know, you know that no matter what the game is played and won in the trenches.
it is interesting how much information is coming out of gecko land regarding injuries, suspensions, and ak-47’s. all we have had is a-would-be-qb hitting the books and a tweaked leg on our beastly rb.
i do appreciate your reporting of all this stuff.
but, that is a good thing.
perhaps this just reflects the local style mentality to tough out any small kine oweees
Kekoa – I would have to get my picture on this blog everyday to be half the superstar that Nalani is. Maybe I can get all the media to take my pic…they are the only one’s allowed to take pics. Ask WM…better yet, ask Ronnie!
