All four 1

Scrap the depth chart.

At the end of spring training, David Graves and Jeremy Higgins were bracketed atop the depth chart at quarterback.

But head coach Norm Chow, who serves as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, said Duke transfer Sean Scrhoeder, Graves, Higgins and Ikaika Woolsey all will be given a chance to compete for the starting quarterback’s job.

The competition will be quick. Chow said he wants to name a starer early in training camp, which opens on Aug. 1.

There are three other quarterbacks on the roster. But Taylor Graham must redshirt this season after transferring from Ohio State. Cayman Shutter is suspended for the first four games of the season after pleading no contest to a DUI charge. Justin Alo missed part of spring ball after suffering a hand injury.

Wondering if NC had a notion about the transfers or he had some divine intervention?

  3. AlaWai July 6, 2012 12:52 am

Yes AW. I gotta think he had some help from the HCs of the schools.

  4. AlaWai July 6, 2012 12:56 am

With Schroeder at QB, will we get Charley Brown, Linus, Pig Pen and the rest of the Peanuts gang? Lucy will be our holder and Charley Brown our PK. Snoopy “Joe Cool” at WR or just dog Chow?

  5. AlaWai July 6, 2012 12:57 am

Looking forward to August. It should be very revealing to see what magic NC and Co. will unveil.

    Top Ten!

Been meaning to ask, is Sean Schroeder related to Jay Schroeder?

  11. bleedgreen July 6, 2012 1:09 am

My guess Schroeder will ascend to the top.

  15. mo808 July 6, 2012 1:19 am

One for all! I’m hoping the one who earns the job is a definite stand out from the rest! Go Warriors!

  16. krump1_AKA_protector July 6, 2012 2:17 am

    I like that it’s a wide-open competition. No favoritism!

Good luck to the QB hopefuls! Think Chow will choose the tallest one?

  19. mo808 July 6, 2012 4:53 am

I think Chow will choose the sharpest one!

  21. snoozer July 6, 2012 5:14 am

ST…Do you think the level that Taylor practiced at in the few reps he got gave Coach an uneasy feeling about his choices at QB this year. Neither seemed to have really grasped the offense and had to keep looking for someone with potential to run the offense at a high level right out of the gates? Perhaps the USC game is weighing heavy on his mind.

  22. Slugger July 6, 2012 5:19 am

    Good morning, gang!

Wow! Cool! Stan Sheriff…what year was the roster from?

May the best QB win the starting job…Coach will make sure of that.

    Hi ho…

  25. iwonderwhytheyhateme July 6, 2012 5:43 am

Gotta agree with bleedgreen. I think Schrod is going to end up being the #1. I know he didn’t play a down of fb at a school that is far from being relevant fb-wise, but I think he has potential that Chow will be able to unleash. Good luck to all!

  26. LizKauai (iPad) July 6, 2012 5:49 am

Good Morning on this Aloha Friday!

Very cool to see the Sheriff himself!

Good luck to all the QBs and “the kid” in pursuit of their athletic dreams!

Safe travels to M/M Sailor Blue too!

  27. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 5:56 am

Roger Federer won in 4 sets, beating Djokovic.

  28. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 5:57 am

if he wins the next match, Federer will be no. 1 in the world, replacing Djokovic.

  29. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 6:02 am

with each level, the competition gets keener. Talented players come to your school from all over the country.

My surgeon, Alan Anae, was a starting QB at Kahuku. But when he got to BYU, coach Chow made him a tight end. Though he played some games, he was not a starter.

It’s just as well. He is an excellent surgeon!

  30. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 6:08 am

I think there was too much inconsistency at the quarterback position in the spring, probably due to the many factors of changing offenses. Different reads, different sets and formations, taking the snap under center, etc. I think Chow wanted to upgrade the competition, but at the same time, he wanted to be fair and see how the QBs responded after working out on their own this summer. That’s why he wanted to restart the competition.

It probably will be the same for all positions, particularly on defense. Jobs can still be won, but there will be a short time to win them.

  31. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 6:15 am

It’s kind of scary!!! Just 4 weeks of practice time to get in shape for the USC game. The starters had better be FAST LEARNERS!!!

  32. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 6:30 am

And yet nobody has mentioned the reference to that 90s group — All-4-One.

  33. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 6:31 am

See, it’s four guys going for the No. 1 job and . . . Never mind.

  34. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 6:42 am

#15 Mo808 said, “One for all.” OK, it’s not All-4-One. Lol.

  35. haka July 6, 2012 6:44 am

It’s all about competition and who delivers!

    Competition is good.

  38. chopsueyboy July 6, 2012 6:52 am

NFL new stadium experience is showing challenged plays on stadium screens simultaneous with what the refs sees under the black hood. Does the ref still look into their little screen for plays “under review” when they can watch the stadium’s big screen? Imagine them making their decision at Texas Stadium with that huge screen in the middle of the stadium instead of looking at their small monitor. Will fan’s reaction influence their call on the play?

  42. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 7:03 am

Kekoa: That’s great! Hope Hale Ikena is not difficult to find.

  43. tommui July 6, 2012 7:11 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

KEKOA – Lois got a base pass but don’t know whether it is good for ALL bases or just Hale Koa.

Is it good for Shafter? Or do you have to go through inspection – i.e. insurance, registration etc?

Spent a couple months at Shafter – love it there – until I got transferred to the 25th Div! (It was closer to town!)

  44. Kekoa July 6, 2012 7:41 am

Tom ~ It’s not as strict after duty hours. They don’t log in the info. They just want to see that you have current documentation.

Be sure to ask for directions at the gate, or call the club and I’ll send up a red flare.

  45. Gidget July 6, 2012 7:53 am

I appreciate, lead to I discovered just what I used to be taking a look for. You’ve ended my 4 day long hunt! God Bless you man. Have a nice day. Bye

    Happy Aloha Friday!

  47. d1shima July 6, 2012 8:00 am

    Great Morning All!

    I’m pulling for D’Artagnan….

  48. DaveLetterMan July 6, 2012 8:02 am

    Morning Tsaikos!

Getting to Hale Ikena isn’t hard. After the main gate just follow road to the four way stop (the theater will be on your right and the bowling alley straight ahead on your left). Make a left turn and follow road. Hale Ikena on the right.

  49. A-House July 6, 2012 8:07 am

    Ft Shafter:

consider entry from School Street – may be way faster than the main gate.

  50. A-House July 6, 2012 8:07 am

competition always brings out the best in all!

  51. DaveLetterMan July 6, 2012 8:15 am

Side gate at Shafter not always open.

  52. Kekoa July 6, 2012 8:15 am

    Mahalo Dave!

    Why not join us?

  53. Aaron July 6, 2012 8:25 am

The Notley Street gate at Shafter is not open after hours. you will have to go thru the main gate, i think.

  54. al July 6, 2012 8:25 am

so is roger federer the tallest tennis player?

is this why he is so good?

  55. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:27 am

What? Michelle Wie shoots her way into contention with a 66.

  56. Kekoa July 6, 2012 8:28 am

    Rgr dat Aaron.

  57. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:30 am

Someone is going to say Michelle Wie is tall. Uh-huh, ignorance is funny.

  58. madeinhawaii July 6, 2012 8:31 am

Hmmmm … any truth to this little rumbling? (I haven’t seen any corroborating bits outside of SportsHawaii) – Wouldn’t he need to be already enrolled at UH to walk-on, though?

Hearing K.T. Tuumalo (Punahou ’10) might not return to Colorado, and might walk-on at UH. Take it FWIW…

  59. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 8:32 am

I think Wie is as tall as my hubby – 6’1″

  60. jm2375 July 6, 2012 8:35 am

    Good morning Tsaikos!

    Let the competition begin!

al-san – #54 – John Isner, an American, I think is the tallest pro tennis player at 6’10”.

Methinks it’s easier to get on base at Ft Shafter than it is to go to Tripler.

Gotta go shopping for a new refrigerator today.

  61. al July 6, 2012 8:35 am

    jimmy the lock…oh dear.

  62. d1shima July 6, 2012 8:35 am

    That was quick!

  63. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:36 am

What good is a TRO if it can be violated more than a 100 times?

All-4-One – Their song, “I Swear” was a popular wedding song.

  64. Ipu Man July 6, 2012 8:36 am

    So…Saturday, Al will tell?

  65. al July 6, 2012 8:36 am

jm411…i guess isner will #1 very soon.

  66. d1shima July 6, 2012 8:36 am

What kine fridge get at Tripler?

  67. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:36 am

    AIYAH!

  68. al July 6, 2012 8:37 am

i guess michelle finally used her putter instead of the wedge.

  69. DaveLetterMan July 6, 2012 8:38 am

Kekoa-thanks for the invite but unfortunately I can’t make it.

  70. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:39 am

Now I’m wondering if Bill Shoemaker was the tallest jockey.

  71. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:42 am

All kidding aside. I think it is great that Michelle can shoot a score like that given all her struggles this season. Good luck to her on the weekend and hopefully she stays focused and becomes the US Women’s Open winner.

  72. Kekoa July 6, 2012 8:43 am

Jmxxxx ~ My offer stands. I give you my old coolah. Save you money. Go back to ice box technology.

  73. Keoniana July 6, 2012 8:43 am

I’m really concern about the QB position – it bothers me why Graves can’t just take the job away from other QB’s.

  74. al July 6, 2012 8:44 am

lpga really needs michelle to win.

hopefully she’ll win because she is tall.

  75. d1shima July 6, 2012 8:47 am

Maybe Brittney Griner should reconsider her athletic aspirations.

  76. al July 6, 2012 8:48 am

so schroeder is built like colt brennan.

listed at 6’3″ but admittedly a tad under and 200 lbs.

however, he is a southpaw. i like southpaw qb’s.

i am sure he won’t have trouble with the playbook.

    let the competition begin.

  77. al July 6, 2012 8:48 am

    who’s brittney griner?

  78. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:48 am

The QB personnel are a given. You make the best with what you got. Coach Chow will do his job and work within the strengths and limitations of whoever is the starter. He did that at Utah and he will do the same here.

  79. Lowtone123 July 6, 2012 8:50 am

ST love the pic…SS didn’t change much, except the hair. I don’t remember ever hearing that SS played pro football, kinda cool.

  80. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 8:52 am

    She can dunk.

  81. PowderPuff July 6, 2012 8:52 am

Great pic, ST. Still remember hearing about Stan’s death…so sad. 🙁

Woooooo hoooooo, Michelle! She gets to play the weekend – hasn’t happened very often this season. Maybe just once a couple of weeks back.

  82. jm2375 July 6, 2012 8:56 am

btw, any opinions – side-by-side fridge vs french door/bottom freezer style? Haven’t made up my mind yet.

  83. haka July 6, 2012 8:57 am

I will always root for Michelle to be successful just to allow the “critics” to rest…in peace.

    Go Michelle!

  84. d1shima July 6, 2012 9:01 am

I wonder if he was the last 225# Center in the league?

    ….and he wasn’t very tall. 🙄

  99. Da Punchbowl Kid July 6, 2012 10:09 am

Safe Travels and Bon Voyage to M/M SailorBlue — cruisin’ down a river, 12 time zones away!

…the very first commercial cruise for our blue water sailor, and he chooses a river one. Good change-up!

BTW, tommui was floating in the same rivers a few years ago, and has the distinction of blogging on The Warrior Beat from almost 180˚ on the opposite side of the world.

  102. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 10:20 am

So if I soak my dakine in green tea will it look youthful?

  103. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 10:25 am

Wouldn’t 180 degrees from the opposite side put you back where you started?

  104. al July 6, 2012 10:25 am

    jimmy…only if it is tall.

  105. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 10:38 am

Green tea makes you look younger??? One look at me and you know……what can I say?

    Nope, it doesn’t work.

  106. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 10:39 am

Oh, and if it is happy I’ll call it the Jolly Green Giant, “From the valley of the jolly, ho ho ho, Green Giant”.

They don’t make commercials like those anymore.

“My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R, my bologna has a second name it’s M-A-Y-E-R, oh I love to eat it everyday and if you ask me why I’ll say, ’cause Oscar Mayer has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A”

“Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weiner! That is what I’d truly like to be, ’cause if I were an Oscar Meyer weiner, everyone would be in love with me.”

  107. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 10:40 am

Actually, I found the tea in a bottle outsidel It was regular Lipton brown tea but, it was outside so long it turned green.

  108. HEINEKEN July 6, 2012 10:40 am

Just read today that Darnell Arceneaux will be co QB coach with Tommy Lee this season

  109. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 10:41 am

DPK~ my keyboard was fairly new but at least it didn’t spark.

  110. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 10:42 am

At least I hope it was brown Lipton tea. Yyyiikkesss.

  111. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 10:49 am

I thought Coach Lee was the OC and WR coach.

  112. BigHiloFan2 July 6, 2012 11:04 am

    Howzit Tsaikos everywhere.

okay, the Hilo cc is on. 7/14 at Panaewa, same place as last year. starts 2:30pm.

  113. Da Punchbowl Kid July 6, 2012 11:10 am

    jimmy the lock –

Go. Go try soak ’em fo couple days or whatever. Get back to us with the results. If it works out, then we can go on the “Shark Tank” and introduce a revolutionary new product… come to think of it, nevermind. Soaking one old “dakine” in anything seems counter intuitive. 😆

  114. Kapahulu July 6, 2012 11:15 am

    Papajoe2

Did you get your seats for Stevie Wonder? Where are you sitting? I’ll remember to look for you.

Getting ready to leave this Thursday for our Cruise to the Baltics. Cannot wait!

  115. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 11:19 am

Just pau the soaking technique. Rule #1, make sure green tea not boiling hot. Lesson learned. Pau research.

  116. Da Punchbowl Kid July 6, 2012 11:22 am

And you no need be a Tsertified Tsaiko to attend the Hilo CC… friends, relatives and supporters of UH Football are all welcomed.

  117. al July 6, 2012 11:26 am

kapahulu…just make us jealous like dat.

  118. SteveM July 6, 2012 11:26 am

  119. al July 6, 2012 11:27 am

yeah…so congrats to michelle wie going from 38th to t2nd. hope she can sustain.

  120. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 11:28 am

Rule #2, discard used green tea, not suitable for drinking.

  121. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 11:32 am

DPK: sounds like lots of fun. So, are you guys really going to grill GOAT?

  122. Da Punchbowl Kid July 6, 2012 11:32 am

SteveM – I’ll post the Hilo CC address a little later today. Most of the BI Tsaikos/supporters will remember the place from last year’s get together.

  123. Da Punchbowl Kid July 6, 2012 11:34 am

They’ll be grillin’ lotsa things, Gigi. Maybe even a goat.

  124. SteveM July 6, 2012 11:36 am

Interesting to note that the Hilo Tsai-ko Cattle Calls are the first that is not held at a public restaurant. Real great informal tailgate type atmosphere.

  125. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 11:36 am

What is the closest thing goat tastes like? Does it taste like lamb or like beef?

  126. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 11:38 am

SteveM: remember my party at my home in January 2008, a week or so after the Sugar Bowl. You were there along with a bunch of Tsaikos. Would you call that a CC or a private party? How do you define a cattle call?

  127. wafan July 6, 2012 11:53 am

    Had hallal goat in curry.

    It was not ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-d.

  128. d1shima July 6, 2012 11:54 am

Does anyone recall if Darnell Arceneaux ever played as a WC QB?

  129. SteveM July 6, 2012 11:56 am

    RE: #126

Good question, gigi. My personal opinion is that a Cattle Call is open to all and must be announced on the blog. Just as the first Cattle Call at Camellia was posted by Al several times.

Actually, the first lunch gathering of Tsai-kos was held a week before. Very impromtu and “discussed” on the blog that same morning. But no location/time announced…in fact it was set up via telephone. No one had my number back then. 🙁 BTW, this one was at Hungry Lion and where the “WHAPAAAAAAAAH” originated.

Even in my Tsai-ko Events Calendar (click on my name above), it states that events not posted on the blog are not listed. I must assume it is a BIO event otherwise.

  130. wafan July 6, 2012 11:56 am

Good luck to Arceneaux and the young Warriors he will teach!

    Whoo-hoo!!!

  131. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 11:59 am

    BIO – was dat?

  132. wafan July 6, 2012 12:00 pm

You know . . . like Chem, Bio, Math, Psych, BusEd, Hum, Mus, CTE, . . .

  133. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:06 pm

    Whoa, whoa, whoa.

    Back the train up.

The intern position has not even been created. And UH does not know if it will be allowed with the number of GAs increasing from two to four.

This I know for sure after speaking with a UH person at 6:30 this morning.

  134. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:07 pm

And, by the way, Norm Chow is the QB coach and play-caller, not Tommy Lee.

  135. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 12:09 pm

kapahulu~bought my tickets but don’t know where my seats are. They said that they will mail it but I”m still waiting. You going tomorrow’s reunion?

  136. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 12:10 pm

    ST: what is Lee’s title?

  137. papajoe2 July 6, 2012 12:12 pm

    Isn’t Lee the offensive coordinator?

  138. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:14 pm

Lee has the title of OC and WR coach. But it is Chow who will actually call the plays and put together the offense.

  139. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 12:14 pm

    huh? wat?

  140. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:16 pm

Chow is one of the best qb coaches in the country. He won’t be relinquishing that role.

  141. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 12:16 pm

boy I sure hope Chow doesn’t get burned out before the season is over. Kudos to him!

  142. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 12:17 pm

is that what JJ did? wasn’t he calling the plays?

  143. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:18 pm

I think Wisenhan has the title of run coordinator.

But, again, make no mistake: This is Chow’s offense.

  144. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:20 pm

JJ gave Wes Suan the title of offensive coordinator, but it was JJ running the offense.

During Mack’s tenure, Ron Lee ran the offense for a year, then Rolovich took over two games into the 2009 season. Mack was the DC for the first 16 games, shared the title the remainder of the 2009 season, then turned the defense over to Dave Aranda for the final two years.

  145. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:23 pm

UH at the moment is trying to fill the two GA positions. That could take at least another week because there’s an interview stage.

They have explored the possibility of hiring football interns, but at the moment, no formal plans are in the works.

As we’ve learned the past week, it’s all about paperwork and filings.

  146. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:24 pm

By the way, I realize I might have been in a coma, but when did Richard Torres get released? I totally missed that one.

  147. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 12:27 pm

Wesside Warrior would know. He announced it on the blog.

  148. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 12:28 pm

I missed it. I guess it’s because somebody sent me on a wild-goose chase to the police station last week.

  149. MTx808 July 6, 2012 12:29 pm

    Stephen Tsai:

who is the mystery transfer that we all got wrong

  150. wafan July 6, 2012 12:34 pm

Wild goose chase or a snipe hunt?

  151. MTx808 July 6, 2012 12:35 pm

Im hearing rumors KT Tuumalo has left CU and looking to walk on here

  152. Dennis Halloran July 6, 2012 12:36 pm

Nice interview with Michelle on Golf Channel right now.

  153. A-House July 6, 2012 12:40 pm

looking ahead – 5 years – NC will be 70 and if in good health I will presume that he would want to continue as HC or ????????

then wat? neva 2 erli to plan.

  154. BF3 Keygen July 6, 2012 12:46 pm

We’re a gaggle of volunteers and starting a brand new scheme in our community. Your site provided us with valuable information to paintings on. You have performed an impressive job and our entire group can be thankful to you.

  155. Thanks for another informative site. Where else may just I get that type of information written in such an ideal approach? I have a challenge that I am simply now working on, and I have been at the look out for such information.

  156. 3-Prong July 6, 2012 12:55 pm

Re: hale ikena at Ft Shafter. Be sure your drivers license anf car paperwork is all in order. They ask for the stuff at the main gate. Registration sfety check and insurance.

    Also, oama running at Lanikai.

  157. d1shima July 6, 2012 12:56 pm

Can jus tell the guy that or you gotta actually bring one fish?

  158. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 12:58 pm

When I hear or see “Tommy Lee” it reminds me of Motley Crue and Pamela Anderson. Then I picture Tommy Lee Jones, great actor.

As the season moves along, may the real Tommy Lee please stand up.

  159. Shoko July 6, 2012 12:58 pm

I think Torres got released sometime last week, before the game this past Sunday. If not mistaken…

  160. d1shima July 6, 2012 12:58 pm

So who’s leading the DE war between Kahala and Hawaii Kai?

  161. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 1:00 pm

Cryptic security password at Ft. Shafter.

    “A hungry rabbit jumps”

  162. d1shima July 6, 2012 1:01 pm

When you mention Tommy Lee and Pamela Sue I think…convertible! 😯

  163. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 1:02 pm

    Boing!

  164. Shoko July 6, 2012 1:02 pm

Read a story in the RGJ stating that Rolo told Cody Fajardo that he’s “playing with the big boys now.” refering to the transition to the MW. I dunno, but the competition in the MW is pretty much the same as the WAC (minus Boise State) last year.

  165. Shoko July 6, 2012 1:04 pm

Of all the QB’s, isn’t Schroeder the only one with most experience taking the snap under center?

  166. al July 6, 2012 1:05 pm

    st…you were on “vacation”.

  167. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 1:05 pm

    @Shoko

Could be but not in real game situations.

  168. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 1:07 pm

I’ll be going back on vacation next week, too.

  169. al July 6, 2012 1:07 pm

can’t be kt tuumalo as the mystery recruit because that is what i texted him and he said we were all wrong.

but, he did say those who emailed him were off and mine was a text message.

    hmmmmm.

  170. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 1:08 pm

    Shoko:

I’ve had a couple of chats with Schroeder, but I’ve never seen him play. Not sure how good he is. But Bob Johnson speaks highly of him, and I respect Johnson’s opinions.

  171. jimmy the lock July 6, 2012 1:08 pm

Speaking of goat, Tiger may be on the verge of winning a tournament one week to missing the cut the next.

  172. izzy July 6, 2012 1:11 pm

    RE: Mongolian BBQ

What is the minimum height requiremrent for entering Ft Shafter?

  173. al July 6, 2012 1:14 pm

is bob johnson still operating that qb camp with his son?

  176. d1shima July 6, 2012 1:21 pm

…promo for savings for season tix holders.

Tryna sell plenny before the end of August.

    😈

  177. Shoko July 6, 2012 1:24 pm

Well, although he (Schroeder) hasn’t had game experience, I would think he practiced under center which gives him some advantage compared to the rest of the QB’s since all were in the shotgun. I saw some highlights when he was at some QB Elite camp and it looked like he had the mechanics down. His release seemed okay, but as far as his accuracy its too early to tell. Drop back speed was also okay.

  178. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 1:28 pm

Johnson is still running the Elite 11 Camp.

  179. Kapahulu July 6, 2012 1:35 pm

    Papajoe2:

No reunion for me. Gotta work tomorrow. Tell everyone I said Hi.

  180. d1shima July 6, 2012 1:46 pm

Interesting that Coach Chow has attracted more “elite” QB’s before his first game than The Former Coach did in 8 years….

  181. kapakahi July 6, 2012 1:49 pm

NC also respects the opinions of his good friend Bob Johnson.

Actually Johnson is no longer involved with running the Elite 11 QB Camps as of last year….but is still involved with running a different Camp Quarterback with sons Bret (who played QB for Michigan State then UCLA) and Rob (who played QB for USC)……in addition to still being the HC for the Mission Viejo HS (Diablos) in South OC.

    Shucks…

  183. Stephen Tsai July 6, 2012 2:04 pm

    Kapakahi

    Thanks for the correction.

  184. A-joe July 6, 2012 2:08 pm

183- but you still trust Johnson’s opinion, eh?

  185. buy used piano July 6, 2012 2:13 pm

certainly like your web-site however you have to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very bothersome to tell the reality nevertheless I’ll surely come back again.

    A-Joe:

    But of course.

  187. Observation July 6, 2012 2:30 pm

Hey…is that Rich Miano in the #85 Jersey above left to Stan Sherrif. That person directly to Stan’s left shoulder has got to be Jason Elam? Lol

  191. madeinhawaii July 6, 2012 3:01 pm

    papjoe2,

Hmmm….scary thought. Considering how you look today and the fact that you drink lots of green tea, imagine what you might look like if you didn’t drink green tea? …

    j/k

  192. SteveM July 6, 2012 3:05 pm

Awwright! THREE Cattle Calls on the Tsai-ko event calendar for the month of July 2012 now!

    …do I hear a fourth brewing….? 😛

  193. Old School Dave July 6, 2012 3:31 pm

I believe that West Halemaumau in Niu Valley is the district boundry for Kalani and Kaiser High. Kalani used to have some pretty good teams in the 60s and early 70s, until Kaiser opened. DEs or Geography Exemptions were pretty common back in the day for athletic reasons (knew choke athletes living in my neighborhood, but who played for other public high schools out of district). Now they will actually check addresses to verify that you live in the district.

  194. d1shima July 6, 2012 3:43 pm

    OSD,

A lil’ birdie says if you coming into town in the morning from beyond Hawaii Kai, going get a few more cars on the road until you get past Kalaniiki St once skoo starts.

If you spill tea on your keyboard and it konks out…

give it a day or two or even a week to dry out.

It happened to me once. I thought it was dead.

So I went out and bought another vaio ($$$$$)…

But three weeks later, my old one worked just fine.

Oh well, nicde to have a spare in case…

  197. Ipu Man July 6, 2012 3:47 pm

I did not put a d in my word, nice.

  198. K-Bay July 6, 2012 3:56 pm

IF you have enough rice, you can place your wiped off keyboard in the raw rice continer — it acts as an effective desiccant and is one of the best shots at getting the moisture out before it messe up circuits…

  199. Shoko July 6, 2012 4:04 pm

I would think if the keyboard was powered and you spilled some liquid, it would instantly short out.

I spilled Bacardi rum on my keyboard (with power) once and it worked for a few minutes than POOF! Probably too intoxicated to operate properly. If it was green tea – it being healthy – there might be a chance for recovery like Ipu’s keyboard.

  200. d1shima July 6, 2012 4:11 pm

So a bartender spilling his tea would be SOL?

  203. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 4:18 pm

i would not put anything electronic in a bag of rice. Daughter dropped her phone in water and put it in rice to dry. Later she took phone out and then had to get a pin and dig out all the rice from the crevices of the phone. HUMBUG.

just air dry it on a shelf for a week — thats better.

  204. Ipu Man July 6, 2012 4:19 pm

btw, had Jackinbox new deal, All American Combo, a double cheeseburger

made with 100% beef. The first thing I noticed that it tasted like a hamburger,

like if you made it yourself. Not like meatloaf. $5.99…(with ff and sd)

  205. gigi-hawaii July 6, 2012 4:21 pm

I just had a spicy chicken sandwich with small fries from Jack in box. Filling.

  206. Ipu Man July 6, 2012 4:22 pm

Not a naysayer but just sharing the fact…..that the football program will definitely need to provide the players with increased caloric & nutrional intake (including supervised distribution of additional multi-vitamin and/or protein supplements) for the upcoming Fall Camp and regular season…..to correspond to the ramped up high tempo practices under Chow….in order to obtain the desired strength and conditioning results……since quite a few players…..particularly linemen…..are spending their summer to re-condition in order to regain muscle mass, strength, and stamina from undesired losses experienced through Spring Ball practices.

“These are the facts of the case. And they are undisputed.”

  241. SteveM July 6, 2012 9:49 pm

    Well after 2100, so here’s some trivia…

    SteveM:

    July 6th, 2012 at 10:15 am

Safe Travels and Bon Voyage to M/M SailorBlue — cruisin’ down a river, 12 time zones away!

…the very first commercial cruise for our blue water sailor, and he chooses a river one. Good change-up!

BTW, tommui was floating in the same rivers a few years ago, and has the distinction of blogging on The Warrior Beat from almost 180˚ on the opposite side of the world.

Jimmy the Lock — sorry, should have phrased that, “…from almost 180˚opposite from us on the other side of the world”.

    Honolulu is 21-17″ N and 157˚-49″ W

    St. Petersburg (Russia) 59˚-56″ N and 30˚-20″ E

    Adding the W. and E. longitudes = approx. 188˚

So more accurately, it is 188˚ opposite from us in a clockwise direction from Hawaii…

    …or 172˚ away going counterclockwise. 🙂

    zzzzzzzz

    Howzit!

Spent 2 hours at Sears looking at refrigerators. Narrowed it down to 5 candidates. Gotta do a little more research. Present fridge is pretty much d-e-a-d, but a new one can’t be delivered till at least Tuesday.

Passed by a Jack-in-the-Box this afternoon. They were advertising spam croissant sandwiches.

(hmmmm, should I be adding spam to the the bp? j/k 🙄 )

  243. SteveM July 6, 2012 10:16 pm

…and for those looking at Latitude (N of equator):

    St. Petersburg 59˚-56″

    Anchorage, AK 61˚-13″

…or approx. 77 nautical mies difference in latitude

Conclusion: kinda cool in the Baltic. 😕

  245. jm2375 July 6, 2012 10:50 pm

al-san – only the Ala Moana store is going away and not for a couple of years.

I thought that in the major appliance arena, Sears’ Kenmore brand was another manufacturer re-labeled. Not 100% positive though.

You could certainly see your skills in the work you write. The arena hopes for more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to say how they believe. At all times follow your heart.

Good Morning! There’s a bird singing outside my window! I wonder if we’ll hear some new mystery player news today.

  254. Wes'side Warrior July 7, 2012 5:07 am

    Morning, everyone!

Wow, lots of news coming in on all fronts.

ST, yes… one of the offensive players told us during pre-game warmups that Torres was released. He said he was pretty sure Torres was headed back home as we spoke, which would mean he was released at least the day before the game. We just didn’t get word of it until gameday.

I still think he was more a victim of circumstances rather than anything else. But, that’s just my opinion. The newer guys they brought in that played in the game against Orlando still sucked. They couldn’t come up with a single stop after the first drive. Maybe it’s not da players, but the DC who isn’t getting the job done. Whatevas.

Wish Richard all da best, whateva his future holds. Really a good guy with so much ahead of him.

We got a few errands to run, so we’re out the door soon, before it gets too hot. Check you guys out laterz…

    Great Morning All!

  257. Wes'side Warrior July 7, 2012 5:16 am

    Oh… before I take off for now… Just a quick reminder…

I’m hosting a Tsai-kos, Georgia Chaptah tailgate before the final regular season home game between the Georgia Force and the Pittsburgh Power.

14July2012. Game starts at 7pm. Doors open at 6pm. We’ll be there by 4pm at least. Will have exact time the closer we get to game day.

“Peanut” parking lot… just look for da Warrior Green!

Pot-luck style… bring your own pupus (finger foods).

And if you don’t already have your tickets, you still have time to sit with us in da “Warrior Green” section. Here’s how:

Howzit, ‘ohana! Here’s the info on our Warrior Green section for the 14July2012 game, from Andy Haskell, Senior Director of Team Operations for the Georgia Force:

“For the last game, please send the following information to your contact group. We can offer a group rate of $24.00 in section 116, rows G and up. Normally $33 on game day. We can do a $12.00 group seat that is normally $18.00 on game day. You all decide the location. Tell them to call Andy Haskell at 770.609.1303 to order tickets by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 13th. Ticket master is not set up for that at the arena so those prices would not be available at the building.”

The $12 for $18 offer is for the purple sections (114, 115). I think it’s best for us as a group to stay closer together for more effect… like in sections 115 and 116.

After you guys decide and call Mr. Haskell to purchase your seats, please message our group (on facebook) or here, as to where you are sitting.

Also, please remember that he has given us the full amount of time (5pm Friday the 13th deadline), but we’d like to finalize our decisions sooner rather than later.

    Aloha! ~Bruddah D

  258. chaus blogspace July 7, 2012 5:46 am

It is definitely a great and valuable piece of information. I’m happy that you just discussed this specific valuable information along with us. Remember to continue to be all of us current like this. Thank you for revealing.

  263. Wes'side Warrior July 7, 2012 7:18 am

Got back quick, and I went in to tag some old(er) pics that hadn’t received proper attention.

Kekoa… da only way to live is by spreading da aloha!! Just wish I could do more, but still haven’t hit this dang lottery! Love & aloha to your ‘ohana too!

Miss everybody back home! Can’t wait to finally move back, whenever that may be! In the mean time, gonna just keep doing what we’re doing.

Last regular season home game… hope to get former Warrior Mike Washington (Pittsburgh Power’s top receiver… he also wears #1)… to join our group for pics, etc. Visiting teams don’t usually stick around too long when pau, so we’ll see what happens.

Da cat’s out of da bag… Gonna sing Kanaka Waiwai with whomever decides to join in when pau game too. Sometimes hard, since da house stereo system is so loud, but we’ll belt it out anywayz. Hope we get a good turnout dis game.

Me: There’s a hurricane heading towards Hawaii. Guess what the name is.

    Wife: “Young”! (Her nickname)

Me: Hahaha! No, but maybe it should be! Another guess?

    Wife: Hmmm…

Me: And it’s not “Freddie-boy”, or Baby (Leilani)…

    Wife: “Daniel”?

Me: Daniel! And I can’t believe you thought it was your own name!

Where’s the inquiry on how COMPETENT the attorney general is?

Where is her form to fill out???

    Idiot.

  267. wafan July 7, 2012 8:21 am

    jmallkinenumbers . . .

Shopped for a fridge last summer. Older saleswoman mentioned she had a freezer on the bottom rather than the top. Her problem was getting up after putting things away or getting them out. Especially if the item was heavy or bulky. But, she did like the French doors.

Maybe remodel and create enough space for a stand alone fridge and freezer set?

  268. tommui July 7, 2012 8:22 am

    GOOD MORNING HAWAII!

#241 STEVEM: This may be of some interest to everyone – or perhaps only to STEVEM.

Yaroslavl, one of the stops for SAILORBLUE, is 57.6167 N and 39.8500E. Don’t know if we dug straight down 180 degrees if we would hit Hawaii.

Maybe it would be close but no cigar.

MICHELLE got off to a bad start this AM – at least the first two holes.

  269. wafan July 7, 2012 8:23 am

Was the assistant attorney general too lazy to make a phone call or direct a subordinate to do so? Perhaps they need to join Na Koa and make generous donations so they can follow the money!

    Wafan,

They’re dragging other clubs into this matter. That irritates me as is.

Another thing that irritates me, is that I never heard anything about any “exemption from registration” form until I read the article an hour ago.

Emails have been launched in the wee hours of Saturday morning!!!

  272. wafan July 7, 2012 8:33 am

    Kevin . . .

They just should have asked the clubs to fill out the “exepmtion from registration” form to begin with.

Really sounds like a political move to create problems or another move by haters to save money by shutting down or curtailing sports.

  273. d1shima July 7, 2012 8:36 am

    Rise of the Aber-Zombies!

  274. Kevin July 7, 2012 8:36 am

    Wafan,

BTW, seems like other organizations haven’t heard about this form either other than Na Koa……..

As far as political moves are concerned, I should just stop commentating on that. People think Im paranoid, but go outside the realm of revenue sports and the neglect and outward disrespect is prevalent when the facts are presented after conversing with eagles as opposed to birdies.

  275. Kevin July 7, 2012 8:41 am

2.4 million smackers to plan something “that probably ‘you and I’ won’t see during our time here”…

Yikes… pockets getting lined well and student-athletes reading about Title IX and actually not getting to experience its intention…

    Yikes… yikes… yikes….

Gotta appreciate the honesty though. So instead of $1.7 to fix bad lighting that has effected the vision of certain players, 2.4 gets paid out for design of a phantom structure.

    Yikes… yikes… yikes…

  276. Pomai July 7, 2012 8:49 am

#275 – Maybe the AG should be looking at that rather then messing around with nothing.

  277. Ipu Man July 7, 2012 8:56 am

It is not easy to write a daily blog 365 days a year for umpteen years…

  278. tommui July 7, 2012 9:16 am

#275 – KEVIN: Well, there was a nice article about that car that will survey our roads for potholes and defects and it will be mapped out by the end of the year at a cost of a couple of million.

For a price of a phone call, I can tell them where there are a punch of bad potholes that should be fixed now – not at the end of the year.

There is a $4M for PR on the rail – with some nice slick ads – a student that occupies two seats while doing her homework – of course with rail, it will be a faster trip to Ala Moana Shopping Center and then a bus to UH – or maybe she goes to downtown HPU. Who knows?

Then there is money spent on ads blasting forth “illegal contributions” and therefore you must vote for either one of the two candidates that support rail but not for the one that opposes it. Of course the ad people fail to mention that the Republican administration said that the contributions were proper – and this was moneys given to a lot of people running as opposition (Democrat) candidates.

So, Kevin, the moneys you mention is chicken-feed compared to all the other waste.

Again, a million here and a million there, starts to add up to real money.

  279. wafan July 7, 2012 9:26 am

    tommui . . .

Yup, thought the same thing when I saw the news article yesterday. Maybe if they gave that cash to Na Koa and had the members drive around with cameras and cell phones . . . faster and better coverage?

They still have to re-re-re-repair Kamehameha HWY left turn to Waimano Home Rd and left turn at the PC USPS.

Another thought about the concrete highways. If some of the ancient Roman structures (buildings and roads) are still in existence why is it that after a few decades the concrete highways in Hawai’i have to be repaired with ASPHALT.

  280. kapakahi July 7, 2012 9:27 am

    #236 & #252,

Always exciting to hear about the new high-profile mainland players joining the FB program!

However, only the returning players know first-hand what they’ve experienced thus far with respect to the current strength and conditioning program. Like I’ve posted before, JMHO that the FB program and players would be better served yielding better results IF Tommy was allowed to run the whole strength and conditioning program.

Case in point…..a particular lineman (vying to be a starter) lost approx. 25 lbs of muscle mass (along with strength and stamina) through Spring Ball practices with all the high intensity high-volume conditioning drills and has had to spend the whole summer to rebuild himself by working with his own personal trainer to regain all the undesired losses that he experience through Spring Ball practices.

JMHO but just can’t break ’em down….like the ole’ days! Gotta build ’em back up too!

  281. Ipu Man July 7, 2012 9:28 am

Tommui, tell us how you really feel…

    😆

  282. Ipu Man July 7, 2012 9:33 am

btw, CNN sports reports: Adrian Peterson, star running back for Minnesota

    Vikings arrested in Houston…but

At closing time, a group of police officers entered the club, and they began instructing the remaining patrons to leave.

Peterson wanted to get some water before he left, but an officer told Peterson that he needed to leave. Some words apparently were exchanged, but Peterson eventually walked to the exit with one of the club’s bouncers.

It’s believed that one of the officers then jumped on Peterson’s back from behind and tried to take him down. (Key word: “tried.”)

Other officers then joined the fray and completed the arrest.

  283. Kevin July 7, 2012 9:41 am

Monies being misplaced that was meant to serve student-athletes and to comply with Title IX to keep federal funding available for UH as a whole is not chicken-feed regardless of the amount.

I’d also like to see a year-round training table and dining facility with a full-time nutritionist for the UH athletic program. It will take some $$, though. Perhaps once built, the facility can also be open to the general public at certain hours to generate additional revenue, along the lines of KCC’s culinary arts program and their dining room.
