Alexander, Paredes win WAC honors; d1 wins hotel stay

Quarterback Greg Alexander and linebacker Corey Paredes were named the WAC’s weekly winners as the top offensive and defensive players, respectively. In a 38-20 victory over Washington State, Alexander completed 26 of 36 passes for 453 yards and three touchdowns. Paredes, making his first UH start, made eight tackles and forced two fumbles.

And the winner of the two-night stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village (as selected by Wena) is … D-1.

The Warriors are officially on lockdown until Saturday’s game. Their time will be spent in study hall, meetings, weight-training and practices. “It’s all business,” Greg McMackini said this morning. Yesterday, the players were given the day off, as mandated by NCAA rules, and the assistant coaches were given a couple of hours of free time between meetings and video reviews.

The Warriors worked out today at Pales Verde High. They lifted weights for an hour, then ran the bleacher stairs.

One thing about that Wazzu game that I don’t think the Cougars will forget for a while is how hard the Warriors hit. Man did they lay on some licks — even Alexander after his fumble. All the guys — but especially the linebackers and DBs — really put a hurt on Wazzu. Considering the lack of returners on defense it was even more impressive.

  18. bighilofan2 September 14, 2009 6:13 am

    So far so good.

These next two games will test the warriors talent and resolve. The team and coaches must stay focused if we are to win.

Win these next two games and this team will be on the way to gaining some of the respect we were denied in the preseason polls.

    Na Koa Road Warrior Summary
1 BIG win (a decisive one without a doubt) against a Pac 10 opponent on the road.
200+ at the Fox Sports Grill for the Friday reception (24 player alums who brought copies of past programs & lineups from the 60’s & 70’s),
450 at SAFECO Field for the UHAA tailgate,
60+ at the UH Players Post-Game celebration at Pyramid Alehouse.

I had a chance to visit the Quest section where the player’s families were in attendance and thank all of them on behalf of UH for sending their sons to UH to play football and receive a degree. Thanks for suggesting this way to include parents, Jim Higgins.
Mahalo to the cheerleaders for coming over to the FB alum section and doing a cheer. We had the fb alums stand up and be recognized by fans in the section as part of the legacy of UH football. Football alums will be introduced at the Friday reception at the Cal Hotel.

UHAA reception in SF this evening, AKA golf tournament in LA on Wednesday, and Thursday on to LV. I hope there are still some winnings to be had after Rollo and ST leave the tables.

Want some good odds where the house doesn’t have the % in its favor??
California Hotel on Friday, Mezzanine level 5:00 PM to 9:00 pm is the Video Poker Tournament. $50 buy in with $25 going to Na Koa, AND, $25 going into the players winning pool (payout of 50%, 30%, 20% of pot to the three highest scores). I am going into the SF City this afternoon to pick up some giveaways for the reception with Bobby and Robert from ESPN doing the show in the Warrior Room (mezzanine level), probably some Graffeo coffee and some Cafe Roma custom roasted coffee out of North Beach. I could also pick up a couple of 1lb salamis from Molinaris for give aways if you Tsaiko Road Warriors are interested. Great addition for the 2nd home tailgate of the season, if they make it home!!!
Mahalo to Garett at the The Willows for the give away lunch tickets provided for the Willows Buffet Lunch

Na Koa wants you on the field!!!! 1 pair of field passes will be given away at the ESPN show on Thursday, 1 pair at the Friday reception, and 1 pair of field passes will be given away at the Cal tailgate (all New Mexico game so we can talk Road Warrior story on the sideliens during the time outs).

Saturday tailgate at the Cal Hotel with transportation to/from the game all for one price, $60. Amy H.G will be providing the entertainment.

    See you at the Cal!!

  39. Sinope September 14, 2009 7:24 am

Congratulations to Alexander and Paredes, both are deserving of their awards!

  42. Garret September 14, 2009 7:27 am

    Sinope,

ST’s article is correct, the game was schedule to start earlier, but it will now start at 8pm Vegas time (5pm Hawaii time).

  43. Garret September 14, 2009 7:29 am

I agree with Kapolei Doc–the next 2 games will be the hardest games this season so far and the Warriors will earn the respect of the voters that they weren’t given to start the season. It is good that the Warriors have confidence from their two wins to help them going into this tough 2-game road stretch.

  44. Garret September 14, 2009 7:32 am

Good news about Bess, bad news about Pisa (out for some games due to a sprained PCL).

It’s good and bad news that Davone Bess caught seven passes for 57 yards. Good, obviously, because it shows what a productive player he is. Bad, because it tells how much he’s being looked for and coach Tony Sparano talked of the need for “chunk” yard this year — big-gain plays.

  49. royvic September 14, 2009 7:53 am

Listening to a Coach Rolo interview this morning on 1420, he said, “We have to learn from our wins.”

This statement is in contrast in hearing of coaches usually saying,”We have to learn from our loses.”

“We have to grow”. Rolo says, “We have to get better.”

He mentions that the staff has broken down the WSU game films in identifying mistakes and are eager in correcting them.

On the prospect of matching up with UNLV Rolo conceded, “UNLV has quite a few talented athletes on defense”.

He also said, “We can’t fumble the ball four times like the team did against WSU and expect to win against UNLV.”

After absorbing everything Coach Rolo had to say, it’s great seeing his confidence and leadership growing. This undoubtedly will not only inspire Alexander but the rest of the team as well.

  50. Kekoa September 14, 2009 7:53 am

What Greg and Corey?? I think Beyounce should have gotten the award.

  52. Garret September 14, 2009 8:02 am

    Don Weir,

I’m sure that the Na Koa events will be a huge success in Vegas, especially that slot tournament. I would love to be there, but I unfortunately cannot leave San Diego until after 4pm…since I won’t be missing the rush-hour traffic and the Vegas weekend traffic, I’ll be getting to Vegas really late on Friday.

  53. labrat September 14, 2009 8:03 am

Congrats to Alexander and Paredes. Much deserved. Keep battling.

Will it be open to the public to attend?

Would like to see them practise if possible before the game.

  56. Garret September 14, 2009 8:03 am

We were planning on leaving early, but my 4-year-old had her woodworking time moved from 11am to the 3-4pm time slot. She only gets it for 4 Fridays, so we can’t deny her that…I still cannot believe that the 4-year-olds get to use drills, hammers, and saws by themselves–adults watch them but only the kids use the equipment. I wish that class was available when I was 4!

  91. Rich2176 September 14, 2009 10:56 am

So, I’m gonna throw this out there for anyone attending the UNLV game this weekend…

I originally thought I was arriving on Friday but changed arrival to Thursday due to the golf tournament at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning. Had a room booked at the Venetian, but they only guranteed 1 comp night (Friday) and I’d have to pay for Sat & Sun (or comp based on play). Booked 4 nights at Harrahs, all comp. Called Venetian today to cancel, and they will now comp all 4 nights. So, if anyone needs a room, they can use my room at Harrah’s. Email me….And please, only responsible Tsaikos, or ones that I’ve drank with.

    Congratulations to Kanani Danielson.

(Don’t if this was posted here – from HA)

Hawai’i sophomore outside hitter Kanani Danielson was named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week today for the second time this season.

Danielson had 34 kills, 19 digs and seven blocks over three matches while earning Most Outstanding Player honors at The Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge last week, which included a win over Stanford. This is the third honor of her career.

Also today, the Rainbow Wahine (7-2) jumped two spots to No. 4 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.

Hawai’i hosts No. 25 Pepperdine (7-2) on Friday and Saturday.

  96. Pete Jek September 14, 2009 11:32 am

I think it would have been good if Greg Salas shared the honors with Greg Alexander. It makes a lot of sense…

He had 7 receptions for the second consecutive week, finished with 195 total receiving yards (15 more than last week), and averaged 27.9 yards per catch. All of this came against a Pac-10 team on the road.

At this pace, he will finish the season with nearly 2,500 yards receiving.

    Ho Pride,

You see a butt whopping going on in Vegas. I hope so cause that would be very nice.

Kama, I actually see the game at 56-38 but had to add in the homefield advantage for Hawaii, so give Hawaii two more TD’s and take one away from UNLV.

We need the momentum going into the LaTech game.

    Pride #97,

I totally agree with you that U.H. will need this win to propell them to the game against La. Tech. If U.H. is able to dominate during this game I will feel even more comfortable going into Ruston. If they struggle or lose then I might not be so comfortable. We will see.

And yes this will probably be Hawaii’s second home game on the schedule. The force will be coming straight for Vegas. They better be ready for the road Warriors.

  106. madeinhawaii September 14, 2009 12:46 pm

So are we all in agreement regarding the starting time for the UNLV game? 5:00pm Hawaii Time?

the oddsmakers still haven’t figured us out, thus, we are 7 pt underdogs this saturday. they’re still reading some of the preseason stuff about our having the worst oline, four receivers in new positions, and a completely brand new defense. well, after this game the warriors won’t be a bargain bet anymore.

i agree that we should not give up on the wildcat. we haven’t yet shown our full hand on what the wildcat can do. i am sure we are setting up some teams for the big one when we really need it.

  116. WarriorTojo September 14, 2009 3:00 pm

Hawaii ranked dead last in D1A with 8 TOs in 2 games or 4.0 TOs lost pg.
Hawaii ranked 108 in net punting @ 29.5 pp in 7 punts.
Wazzup with the aussie, I thought he was booming punts into the clouds? Never know when the pressure is turned on during game time and his boots must be done in less than 2 secs….against better teams both these stats will hurt unless we improve…..UNLV is another road game warriors must win….Beavers kicked the winning FG against UNLV w less than 30 secs remaining in 4th Q…..Boyd Stadium has produced 21,000 and 26,000 spectators in first two games….LaT has had a hard start with back-to-back losses to Auburn and Navy.

  117. curveball September 14, 2009 3:06 pm

I can think of 3 or 4 times he angled his punts to go out of bounds inside the 20..WSU also fumbled one of his punts that we recovered..his punts are hard to catch..ask Bradley..as we know there was not a lot of punting from us against WSU…the Ozzie will be just fine

  118. kama krab September 14, 2009 3:07 pm

    #116

Those are very interesting stats going into the third game of the season and would be alarming if these turnovers and bad punts continue to happen throughout the season but after the turnaround from game one to game two, I am sure that these two stats will get fixed and will become better.

  119. al September 14, 2009 3:11 pm

    however….

in the net turnover aren’t we only -1.

and weren’t four of those punts kicked to be placed within the 20 yard line.

i agree we need to hang on to the ball and that is correctable and will be corrected.

can’t blame the punt average just yet. anyway, his just hanging on to the ball is a success at this point since he just completed his first two games of football, ever in his life. just wait, he’ll make you eat your words.

oregon state brought along 8,000 of their own to the park.
we are bringing about 18,000 this saturday.

and btw, being a warrior “tojo” is an insult to my ancestors and a good friend of mine.

  121. warriorfanny2 September 14, 2009 3:14 pm

The timing for the wildcat formation didnt make sense.
Alexander was moving the ball and put up 35 points.
So Y the need to bring in Funake?
I could see if Inoke was placed in the backfield w Alexander at the QB helm to give our O another option with the H-back option to run or pass but taking Greg out of the picture made no sense and weakened our O assests in the redzone.
Greg Alexander is our best passer–that places heat on the D and they will continue to spread their D. Inoke doesnt draw the same respect as a passer and thus, the D will tighten up…..

  124. warriorfanny2 September 14, 2009 3:22 pm

we can control turnovers lost, it is within our grasp–8 to’s given-up in 2 games is huge. seven of those were fumbles—there is a problem, especially when ncaa stats say Hawaii is dead last!

  125. iwonderwhytheyhateme September 14, 2009 3:30 pm

    re: turnovers,

definitely its a problem to look at. a higher end program like a USC or something would score on 8/10 turnovers on us without a sweat. We were fortunate the defense stayed its course and played well to get the ball back, and keep some to just 3 pts but also we can give thanks to how WSU is in no way as good as a USC.

  126. Pride. September 14, 2009 3:33 pm

  130. Manoa Mist September 14, 2009 3:44 pm

Like I said, Mack don’t know what he’s doing. Changing the play-caller after the first game will never work. We deserve better then that. Well, coach shut me up pretty good. Can’t remember the last time UH just blew out somebody on the road like this. UH looked quick, defense looked good too. But what do I know anyways?

  131. al September 14, 2009 3:46 pm

interesting how the blog attracts schizos.

  132. kama krab September 14, 2009 3:47 pm

I totally agree that if this was a team even like Boise, then we would get torched by all these turnovers but the fact of the matter is we did not play someone of Boises caliber yet so we still have time to get better and correct the problem. And please don’t get me wrong, this many turnovers for only two games is a very high number but I take solace that we have only played two games and have a lot of time to work on this aspect of our game.

Work is what we will need to become a solid program. No doubt about it. But work it what I think are team is willing to put forward to acheive that goal. So please do not be jumping down the teams throat just yet. Just gotta enjoy the ride.

  133. kama krab September 14, 2009 3:59 pm

    Eh Manoa Mist,

We all had some kind of doubt in our minds about the change but it work for this one game. I mean what happens if it does not work the next game, will we be back to the same old thing of second guessing. I hope not but exactly what do we know.

And by the way I hope no hard feelings about the little discussion we had a couple of post back. It’s always good when you can have a back and forth discussion without any name calling or put downs. That’s what a discussion board is all about.

  134. Jack Flash September 14, 2009 4:01 pm

I like that- enjoy the ride. We’re 2 and O right? One thing we know from last year is these coaches know how to fix what’s broken. Clean up the turnovers and we’re a pretty damn good football team. I like how the defense is playing right now- hard hitting and fast. Something we lacked last year. And the offense is finding it’s rhythm. Moving Salas and Pilares to slot was great coaching.
    GO WARRIORS!

One more thing before I hele home,

It’s already been an up and down season only two games in but would you want it any different. We are 2-0. We had to scratch out a win against a D1-AA team and then we come back and pretty much pound a Pac-10 team. What is in store for us next? I hope it is a win but heh if we continue to improve like we have already shown I am sure we will winning a whole lot more than we will be losing and this goes for years to come also.

For those still looking for UNLV tickets at this late date, it looks like a bunch of sideline tickets on the UH side just became available at the UNLV ticket website. Some of them are very good near midfield in the bottom 10 rows. I’m guessing a bunch of the casinos couldn’t sell all of their packages and turned some tickets back in. Click on the link below if interested.

I just bought 7 tickets myself so I’ll be there yelling my head off for the Warriors come Saturday.

    RE: playing the “Vegas Line”…

A while back I went off about how I personally felt about those that play the spreads on the UH games and how in SOME instances, it has helped to create the FOUL attitude some “locals” have towards UH.

You got a good amount of people that can’t stand UH football even when they win because the other team didn’t beat the spread or when UH wins but doesn’t cover the spread, I think this happened a few times in 2007.

Anyway, I won’t go on further, but here’s a true story:

In 2008, following the awesome road win against then-#22 Fresno State, UH was a 20+ point underdog. I think FSU was giving UH 22 points or something like that. Anyway, I was arriving at Murphys to watch the game after work, we won the game, celebrated a bit, then got a call from some other friends who were watching the game on the wessai. We decided to head to a small “watering hole” called Melrose Place (NOT kidding) located in lower Pearl City. Small bar, quiet older folks and we’re a bunch of noisy and HAPPY 20 year olds, so you can see why we liked the place!… PLUS!!!! They’ve got Kalapana’s greatest hits on the jukebox!!!!

Anyway… So me and my buddies are talking up about how great the win was, how we couldn’t have done it without Funaki and of course da Iceman. So a few of us go outside to have a smoke, and here comes dis braddah on his cell phone talking loudly about how he “would have been so sick and pissed” if he followed through with his bet on the UH game. Sufficed to say, it’s a safe bet to say his, money was on FSU to cover the spread.

Dis faka couldn’t even enjoy the fact that the game was almost seemingly set up to have FSU carry the WAC flag into a BCS bid and we RUINED IT!!! 😆

My theory proved to be correct in that single instance.

evening Tsaikos. good monday nite games. i am not an oakland or sd fan, but the “rejected td” call was uncalled for. oakland scored and the ground caused the fumble. thought the nfl refs were the class of refs, but they are just like any other game refs.

the opening line in vegas was -7 unlv and at this hours is still the same. it will be interesting if they keep that line when the warrior fans arrive on wed and thurs. there is no over and under yet.

i must still be young, cuz I neva consciously ‘know’/rememba dat stuff about Tojo. i taut Tojo was a wrestler from back in da 60s/70s. but now tinking bout it, i tink Sinope is right too. so i can see how sum peeps get defensive, and i guess you should see i’d get defensive too if sumbuddy talked about my pride lie dat. 196. Pomai September 14, 2009 7:34 pm

For those who are worried about our punting game IMHO I don’t think we have anything to worry about Alex Dunnachie and his ability to hang them, he may not boom them as in practice with the on rushing line coming at him, that is for the first few times, but after he gets his feet wet you will see them just as we saw in practice. Don’t forget this is the first time he has ever punted in American Football, an also he is a true freshmen.

Curveball mentioned how the first one was fumbled, well we saw that in practice time after time, his kicks are hard for the return men to handle, which is a plus for us, as we saw when we recovered the fumble this past game, this will happen quite a few times with his punts

  197. bighilofan2 September 14, 2009 7:38 pm

Meanwhile, getting back to da positives.

howz about Aaron Kia talking up about Mr. Shaw, huh! Hoping dat girl gonna wanna come UH next year! what an inspirational coach.

Whoooo woooooooooo taaahhhh! Road Warriors are coming to the 9th County!!!!!

  198. Unkanesson September 14, 2009 7:39 pm

    Howzit Tsaiko Nation!
Just now getting caught up with the blog.
But before I get into the reading, I have a feeling that UNLV is going to come into this game VERY motivated, and with a veteran defensive unit, they’re going to give us a much better fight than WSU, or UCA for that matter, did.
But I think that, with our D playing like it is, our offense will have enough opportunities to put up points. I say it will be a hard-fought 31-24 victory.

Got that Pomai? UH 31 UNLV 24

  199. bighilofan2 September 14, 2009 7:42 pm

  201. BowsForever September 14, 2009 7:59 pm

    For Pomai’s score list:

    UH 41, UNLV 25

If what I’m hearing about Dunnachie’s punts being really tough to catch is true, special teams is gonna be lots of fun for the next almost-4 years.

Luke Ingram seems to be doing a decent job at LS so far, and it helps that Funaki is handling holder duties for Enos’ extra pts. and FGs. Does Funaki as holder open up some fake FG possibilities, maybe?

  202. Diogenes Sinope September 14, 2009 8:06 pm

BHF2 – (re #194) I think you are thinking of Tosh Togo (Harold Sakata) who wrestled in the 60/70s. He also played Oddjob (the guy with the bowler hat) in the James Bond movie Goldfinger.

And I hold Al in high regard even if he stood me up!

Congrats to Greg Alexander, Cory Paredes and Kanani Danielson.

    Congrats to d1.

Everybody needs be to civil (at least) to each other. Is this the way we would we treat other people face-to-face? Remember, do unto others as they would do unto you. I realize the internet allows for this kind of anonymous exchange, but that doesn’t mean it’s right.

I gotta agree about Dunnachie. Punt averages are just another example of how statistics don’t tell the whole story. Give da guy a break at least for another couple of games.

*burp* Went to celebrate hubby’s bday at Ruth’s Chris. Had the veal chop. Was good, but think I’ll stick with the steak next time. Hubby got a free glass of bubbly and strawberries flambe. Puppy had a good time with the bone – tail wagging the whole time.

This message is sort of a solicitation thing but us Tsaikos did it for the JUGS and the Bikes…

There is a book contest that awards 50,000 books to the state with the most votes. As of today, Hawaii is in 3rd place. Let’s get Hawaii to make the leap to number one, or at least be competitive!

It is easy to vote. All you have to do is visit the website once a day (17 days left) and choose Hawaii, and click to vote. You don’t have to fill in the other spots. Just go to the box that asks where you want 50,000 books to be sent, find Hawaii and click. AND YES, YOU ONLY HAVE TO CLICK ON *WHERE DO YOU WANT THE BOOKS TO GO….ITS THE ONLY REQUIRED FIELD.

    I’ve included the link: http://booksforkids.firstbook.org/whatbook/about.php

It was on the news this evening – Channel 3 and so I guess it would be on the other news channels as well.

And AL re:#213, it actually will first occur on 9/17 – so you owe me and so go vote, and vote often!

I wonder where all those tickets mysteriously appeared from. I just checked and was able to get 24 tickets in section 107. I called the first day as soon as the tickets became available and was only able to get sideline seats on the unlv side. Auwe. Hopefully it wasn’t the wonderful UH ticket office giving back their allotment. It would have been nice to sit on the UH side to avoid any potential problems. Could get ugly with a later start (more time to get drunk).

Not sure if anyone came across this over the weekend, but this was interesting and refreshing to see:

Women’s Basketball Begins School Year With Team Retreat.

Head women’s basketball coach Dana Takahara-Dias began her first season at the helm of the UH program with a team retreat August 28-30 at an overnight location in the mountains above the east side of O‘ahu.

During their time on the mountain, the team went on conditioning hikes, successfully completed team bonding activities, and capped it off with a talent show. After three days, the team was ready to come down the mountain to begin a new era in Rainbow Wahine Basketball history.

Just by the looks of the photos and the description of the location, I believe the Wahine spent their time at “Winner’s Camp” located high above Kamehame Ridge over looking Waimanalo and most of Honolulu from Koko Head all the way to the wessai.

A few photos of the retreat can be found here:

  244. EH, NO MAKE ! September 14, 2009 10:56 pm

So, it really doesn’t matter who calls the plays for the Warriors huh ?
    My A** !

All we want is the truth coach Mack, nothing but the truth. I mean to me anyway, the difference was noticeable from the opening series through the first five minutes of the second quarter. After that too, but all those damn turnovers started happening and it looked bad. However, the fumbles DID come on good plays that were called.

EH, NO MAKE ! I mean truth be told Nick Rolovich is FAR better at calling plays right now then Ron Lee. I like “Ronnie”, but I really don’t think he was into the “attack” style offense we’d all become accustomed to around here.

I wish, I hope, I pray and I know I’m not alone, just “ballsy” enough to admit it, that mack will stay out of Rolo’s way and allow him to conduct the offense as he see’s fit. What we saw in the Warriors win against Washington State in Seattle Saturday, was clearly the first resemblence of a run-n-shoot offense in the Greg McMackin era at U-H. It’s not open for arguement, not open for discussion, it’s just the plain simple FACT.

Leave Rolo alone on offense, at the same time, be prepared to PAY him, to KEEP him, when the season’s done.

EH, NO MAKE ! It’s obvious, it’s crystal clear, it’s evident, Rolo’s the BEST guy for the job. Ron Lee with Mack in his ear is also clear that the coach DOES have confidence in him. Stay CLEAR Mack, stay out of his way and “let him do his thing.”

Oh, and give the man his credit, it was GREAT play-calling versus the Cougars.

  245. hoho September 14, 2009 11:09 pm

    EH, NO MAKE !: ,

This might make you want to throw up

but macky also said that play calling is over rated
even the radio people got a big laugh at the coach

plus macky has said that ron lee wiil always be his ofensive cordinator no matta wat

  246. Diogenes Sinope September 14, 2009 11:12 pm

D1 = congratulations on winning the prize – couldn’t have happen to a better person (with possibly the exception of me -ha!)

Re: your 224 – no, these are reading books. I think the idea was to give them to the kids – many of whom never had a book of their very own.

  247. tom mui September 14, 2009 11:15 pm

BHF2 – the info people gave you my FAX number which is the first number listed under my name – it’s the second number that is my home number. The Face book (Bar directory) has my “office” number which is my cell phone.

  248. madeinhawaii September 14, 2009 11:24 pm

Rolo is the QB coach and play caller.
Ron Lee is still the OC. It’s still Ron’s play book, not Rolos that the calls are made from.

The Offensive staff get together, review the opposition tapes, decide on what plays to practice and use for that week. Ron gets final say and Rolo calls the plays from what was chosen. Ron makes sure the WRs are where they are supposed to be so that the QB and Rolo can shine. Execution.

Exceptions are made when the opposition does something that the Warriors didn’t prepare for.

    It’s all good;.

  249. Ralph September 14, 2009 11:45 pm

i voted for the books but the site doesn’t give stats, we’re in third but by how much.

    Na Koa Update
    1. Kobi- UH Ticket office sold out UNLV quota so the ducats available are comng from the ticket consolidators who couldn’t sell their packages. This could pose problems in the future for the USC game as consolidators are already lining up at the door to get at that USC$$$$$
    2. bhf2- From yesterday, maybe bring your police scanner to find the radio frequency
    3. UH Alumni Association reception at La Mer in SFO had 100 Manoa Alums in attendance. Mahalo to UHAA President Janet Bullard for taking the UHAA on the road to build up support among the alums on the mainland and reconect them to Manoa.
    4. Went shopping for the giveaways in Las Vegas at the Thursday Espn show & Friday reception and at the Saturday tailgate. Graffeo and Cafe Roma Coffees are packed, 4 Molinari salamitis are packed, Recchio Dark Chocolate is packed but might not make it.
    5. Sideline passes will be provided by Na Koa as prizes (New Mexico State Game) on the Thursday ESPN Show, the Friday ESPN Show, and at the Cal’s Saturday tailgate.
    6. Vili is paid through Na Koa funds at Aloha Stadium games. We did not contract with him to do road games due to the cost factor. Anybody want to see Vili in Boulder next year?? He might even make it to West Point as long as they don’t make him a cadet and if we work out a flight/per diem deal.

Tomorrow we head down to Walnut California to the Royal Vista Golf Course for the Koa Anuenue Golf Tournament. Thursday it is on to LV. Thursday ESPN is live from the Cal as is the Friday show. UHAA and Rainbowtique will be in the house (Mezzanine Level of the Cal) with UHAA having drawings as well.
If I miss you at the receptions I will be in the stadium walking around the Hawaii sections wearing the Na Koa Football Club shirt. Give a shaka to say hello. See you in LV!!

dat wuz a good poiknt, da kala. got me fired up. i don’t know what each of them make, the guyz under Coach Mack, but I figure that Coach Mack and UH gotta figure some way to keep peeps like … like…. ALL of them! The buck stops there, with Coach Mack. He knows how to say the words, THIS IS A BUSINESS TRIP. he’s been doing this a long time. i admit it. i support the coaches. they wanted him. he is the glue for them. thats how i read the coaching staff. meaning, the Lees, Miano, Lumpkin. Now its his coaching staff. and he’ll make adjustments, i’m sure.

but c’mon man, he’s saying the right things.

even that little diddly about the irish. 😀

we can laugh at ourselves. 😆

    Eh, No Make
Then we better all get together and do some fundraiser because a coach’s pay is tied to a State contract and there are no incentive clauses or bonus stipends.
Na Koa is underwriting some of the coaches’ moving expenses and stipends at this time in order to get them to come to Hawaii, as well as the salary of the Director of Player Personnel as there is no job title like this in the State contract.

  263. d1島 September 15, 2009 6:18 am

I like your style, man. very very positive. We can build with each other. The ‘We Play for You’ logo is Right On! The Save Our Sports for high school fundraiser is Right On! Making Las Vegas the 9th County, the idea is Right On. Point being, suggest you hook up with Mr. Amemiya.
I think he thinks like you. Hawaii.

When I see you, can we talk about what are the limitations for UH current players involvement in commercials that promote UH?

Everybody in Hawaii loves UH Football,. We are winning, which brings jubilance, and the locals are looking Great. People like Soares (Soares for Mayor), Paredes, Silva. Along with newcomers Alexander, Green, Davis, Bradley, Hopkins, Dimude. A melting pot.

There has got to be a way where the commercial show UH background facilities, visually showing cloning achievements using students as the props, not in football gear. The theme We Play For You with a banner by the UH Band, school of medicine, engineering. The band plays a short ditty (Hawaii Aloha, Hawaii Ponoi, something recognizable Hawaii), or even Diamond Head in background of background) something with tradition, not a 5-0.

whatI’m saying is that whoever is marketing UH, gotta step away from the Reyn’s shirt kind guyz and go with the Keith Amemiya kind guyz. Jim Donovan gotta hook up with Keith, get sum ideas.

    jmo.

see you Friday evening for a short shaka. 😀

    Morning, Tsaiko Gang.

Ticked me off that I couldn’t see the game this weekend, only radio, nevertheless, I’m extremely happy. The old saying held up, biggest improvement from week 1 to 2, etc……….

If we win the next two games, the sky is truly the limit for this team, it’s definately not boring, lol.

I’ve heard the LV game is carried by CBS C ? Is that true? I d have that channel, would be great.

I should be back home tomorrow. Aloha.

DonWeir thanks for clearing that up. Its been frustrating dealing with the UH ticket office. Hopefully in 2011 the consolidators won’t block up the UH section again.

  274. bighilofan2 September 15, 2009 7:04 am

okay, gotta get this off my chest about naysayin, yada yada.

da rumah is had deze 2 idiots from/affiliated with Kahana Canoe Club.
they went make all tunda dun and hookup 3 canoes on da trailer, but da ball and da trailer hitch no match up. neva mind dat, day said, they fully loaded the trailers, put da trailer to da idiots’ truck hitch (wongsize)

and now the State stay tinking of adding rules and mo rules. i say hold kahana canoe club and its board accountable for their negligence in allowing a coupla idiots fo make tunda dan wit the wong equipment.

and prosecute da frikka fo using da wong equipment. negligent homicide. no slow down on dis one.

the trouble is, a Deputy Prosecutor, a really nice guy, if they choose him because of his involvement in the paddling community, should not be da lead dog. The Prosecutor gotta bring in da pit bullz. Tear up da wrongdoers not for their mistake, but for their attitude, negativity. Trouble is, da lead dogs all old, outta shape, no can run. thats my opinion. they need that young kinda prosecutor in da movie Fracture.

Lazy. Fortunately, we cannot say the same about da Mack Attack!
He got a young prosecutor, Rolovich. Dats my opinion.

    Go Warriors.

Yr 263, yep, I’m concern that players and coaches might feel cool up here in Summerlin.
Summerlin is approx. 3000 ft above sea level where I am(Palo Verde HS is above where I am) and strip is about 2100ft. therefore it’s cooler here by approx. 4-6 deg.
The hotest time of the day in the valley is around 1500 – 1900, not at noon. Stadium will be hotter as I believe it is at a lower altitude than strip level.
The low humidity gives a false feeling – when I’m out walking each day, I will sweat a lot within 30mins. and always carry water to drink and hydrate.
If I recall during the OSU/UNLV game, OSU players did slow down and some I think had cramps too. Our team is here for a week to aclimatize therefore I hope they are really making hydration throughout the day/evening a priority along with their normal activities.
Just heard that the stadium will be cutting off beer sales after half-time to reduce ‘bonding’ between UNLV and UH fans per BC.
