Laurel availability in question
Weak-side linebacker Art Laurel has a sprained ACL and his availability for Saturday’s homecoming game is in question.
The diagnosis, though, is better than initially feared after he suffered the injury in the first half against San Diego State.
If Laurel can’t play, Kendrick Van Ackeren would get the start.
* * * * * *
It was an annual ritual.
The blog host would grumble about the lack of football players inducted into UH’s Circle of Honor.
JD the AD would grumble about about the blog host’s grumbling.
The blog host would point out that Niko Noga was the greatest UH football player he’d ever watched. Noga would line up anywhere on the defensive line. He powered past blocks. He blocked kicks. People of a certain generation can’t forget the opening scene of the Dick Tomey Show, where Noga is running without a shirt. And his skin doesn’t move.
Al Noga was an All-America lineman — AP first team — who once knocked out two New Mexico players on the same play. Guess which team UH plays for homecoming this week?
Rich Miano, Garrett Gabriel, Michael Carter, Ashley Lelie, Vince Manuwai, Tim Chang, Chad Owens, the 12-0 2007 team …
Last year, JD the AD said he was tired of the grumbling (although he didn’t say “grumbling”). He said the blog host would be on the Circle committee. The blog host wanted witnesses. Media relations director Derek Inouchi and administrative assistant Jeannie Lee were drafted as witnesses to the promised appointment.
And then … nothing.
Well, I suppose, there were a few other side distractions the past few months.
This year, the committee did choose three very deserving former athletes, although none was a football player. Based on criteria, they did a thorough job.
The blog host, who apparently speaks in the third person, realizes the pointlessness of fighting windmills, that luncheons and plaques are not needed to define greatness or immortalize memories. Niko Noga will always be the best UH football player he’s ever seen. Garrett Gabriel did provide statewide chicken-skin moments when he led victories over BYU — twice — when that series mattered. Carter on the option was art, especially when it was revealed he played an entire season with a cracked rib. Lelie’s catch against Fresno State. Colt Brennan’s touchdown against San Jose State. Owen’s returns against BYU.
Memories.
As UH begins homecoming week, who are some of your favorite Warriors?
* * * * *
Happy birthday to Kaliko Lee.
ROLO!!! I just loooove Rolo!!!
…or I should have said: Gigi looooves Rolo!!! (gigi likes to speak in the 3rd person, too)
Good morning. Top 5?
Blog host thinks it’s funny Gigi speaks in the third person.
GOOD MORNING,
If I were to speak in 3rd person, but be quasi-schizophrenic, would that be 3rd person or just a multiple personality. On the other hand, Bulla really likes ST….. 🙂 things to ponder
I’m glad Bulla loves special teams.
… and Star Trek
ST,
Bulla agrees with you about Niko Noga, it befuddles Bulla (say that 5 times in a row…but then again it would be hard to say it in a row for that is a physical determination of placement of items, far better to describe it as ‘say that 5 times in successive order would be a more accurate depiction of the initial intent of the suggestion) why there is no mention of Noga.
He electrified the fans, and left it on the field, as did many other Warriors in past years, but Noga had that ‘something something’ that was special. Bulla feels that Noga had the same Warrior Spirit as another ‘People’s Choice’ all-star……Nate Jackson.
Bulla hopes that the powers that be, whether here or there or anywhere within earshot, would consider some other worthy student-athletes, and more importantly, those from the gridiron arena! 🙂
Good morning, gang!
Special Teams for Special Peeps,
Star Wreck YES, haha
Bulla would like to suggest to ST to have a nice day, it’s a Monday and game day will be here soon enough….
By the way, my favorite JDs are:
Jack Dempsey
John Denver
Johnny Depp
James Dean
Joe DiMaggio
Johnny Damon
John Doe
Jack Daniel’s
Bulla might have your list turned upside down, relatives always first 🙂
Levi Stanley DT…in 1973 we were 50 point underdogs to UDUB. The game is televised. Levi makes 16 tackles and we shut down the puppies 10-7 in their house. After that, I was hooked.
Famous ADs:
Abner Doubleday
Angie Dickenson
Andy Dick
Ann. B. Davis
Anthony Davis
Alex Dunnachie
Didn’t Levi have his own “Army”?
Hank,
Bulla says Levi is a great guy, battle scarred and wounded til this day. Bulla says easiest way to get Levi’s blood pressure going is ask him how is it possible someone could break his ‘career tackles’ record…Bulla believes it was Sol Elimniam (sp?) that did it.
Watch Levi relive the UDUB game, play by play….. he still has the passion from his playing days, does he have eligibility left? Just a thought…..
Loa says morning gang!
Loa agrees with the blog host on Niko Noga. Loa always remembers story of NN running track in high school when Loa’s friend recalls a big blur sprinting past him in the relays was none other than Niko 🙂
So early ;).
Ohayooooooooogaozaimasu!!!!!
Happy COLUMBUS DAY!!!!!
Careful in the vog today, folks.
Romney delivering a great speech at VMI right now . . . didn’t know Libyan youths held pro-U.S. demonstrations (yes, that’s FOR America) following the tragedy there on 9/11/2012. “There will be no flexibility with Mr. Putin” Romney says. Whoa!!!! Nice!
Mr. Tsai . . . did you manage to watch The Edge yet? [a Grease serves Mr. Tsai coffee.]
Loa thinks he’s related to Bulla too
99club was always a fan of Nate Ilaoa.
Loa wishes the gang a safe and happy day
How about JUDGE DREDD?!?!? (his first name is Joe as well.)
99club’s favorite 99’s:
Barbara Feldon.
That’s it, actually.
ST and Bulla…I don’t remember if Levi had his own Army…but I remember UDUB trying to run over him on 4th down in the last minutes on the UH 20-yard line…and they get stuffed. 50K Husky fans crying. Loved it.
Ahhhhhh, nice, nice, nice, some o’ youse refer to thyself/kakimasu inna 3rd person style, niiiiice, nice :D!
Warriors should play VMI (see # 19) . . . man are all the bodyguards shown for a Romney necessary among cadets at a VMI . . . I mean, if he can’t trust these guys, heh.
Call ins being taken by CSPAN right now. You thought naysaying was ripe on THIS blog? 😉
Mr. Grease
Not yet. The blog host is embarrassed to say that he came home yesterday and watched (on DVR) “Two and Half Men” and “Glee.”
Insert jokes here __________.
Ah … Agent 99.
The blog host is drooling at the memory.
How about the medieval Latin anno Domini and the Vietnamese ao dai? (what do White and Strunk know anyways? ;))
The blog host’s favorite TV name was Honey West.
Hank,
Bulla says that is Levi’s greatest memory, he actually went through the play, step by step, with all of the expletives that were exchanged prior, during and after the play…now THAT was football.
Bulla is happy that Loa checked his family coconut tree to discover that us nuts all related, we bend and no break, do whatever it takes, bczu whether we wins or loses, we still stay da happy baboozes!
Bulla needs to take a shower since he did not work out, and for some reason, he is having an out of body experience…..another JD reference for Bulla is ‘just dumb’, haha
Blog host was sitting in the seat behind a man wearing a kukui nut lei and was tempted to repeat Bulla’s line about men who wear such lei.
‘S one o’those Mensa quizzes, eh? Complete the progression for the following: Two and a Half Men, Glee, and _______________.
Answer: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, a Grease kids w/ya!
Honored that you refer to a Grease as Monsieur Grease. Certainly humbled. 🙂
Past Favorite Warriors…
The Noga Bro’s, my fav was Al Noga “the Samoan Sackman”, Ma’a Tanuvasa, Jeff Ulbrich, Jesse Sapolu, Vince Manuwai, Leonard Peters, Samson Satele, Travis Laboy, Isaac Sopoaga, Pisa Tinoisamoa, Chad Owens, Nate Jackson, Solomon Elimimian, Adam Leonard, Nate Ilaoa, West Keli’ikipi, Ashley Lelie, Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullins, Jason Rivers, Walter Murray, Nu’u Fa’aola, Jeff Snyder, Jason Elam, Darrick Branch, Randall Okimoto, Ta’ase Faumui, Adrian Klemm, Wayne Hunter, Ikaika Alama-Francis, David Veikune, Reagan Mauia, Ryan Mouton, Colt Brennan, Michael Carter, Abraham Elimimian, Alex Green, Greg Salas, Kealoha Pilares, Chad Kalilimoku… well that’s all I can think of off the top of my head for now…
Bulla is amazed at The Blog Host’s memory retention….wait, oxymoron, or just-a-moron….how would you define memory retention…almost like a double negative…….no Koakane, not a double shot, a double negative…..kind of like when they say last call 2 times to you.
Bulla wants everyone to have a great Monday, and for those of you that are off, Bulla is happy for you and your ohana, and for those that are not working…..you are very lucky.
Bulla is going to celebrate Colombus Day later tonight, Bulla is going to walk into a stranger’s house and tell them ‘I’ve discovered you, move out and now I’m going to live here’, haha, mahalo to D-1 for sharing that perspective 🙂
Coach chow is old school and believes that thru harder work and better execution his offense will get better. I think thats why he tries to fit players into his system rather than change his system to his players. I think the sooner he realizes that he wont be able to recruit the type of players that big time colleges gets , being the offenssive genius that he is, he will evolve his pro set and use whatever personnel he has or gets to his advantage. It seems to me colleges are changing their offenses like boise and oregon to compensate for this reason .
I think Niko Noga is the best football player ever to have worn the UH uniform. I was attending UH myself and went to all the home games he played and I saw all the super human football things he did as a player. The guy was built like the hulk and played extremely fast, hard and smart the entire game, every game. I can’t remember extactly how many timely sacks, blocks kicks, and knocked out opponents type plays he made but many are still clear in my mind.
And the Noga’s are a class act. I remember years after they all graduated my friends an I were playing pickup basketball at Pearl City’s Pacheko Park and the Noga brothers had a team and asked if we would play them. We did and it was a fun, clean and most memorable moment playing against supreme beings in every classy way.
I don’t understand nor care for the politics at UH but Niko and Al should have been inducted into the UH Hall of Fame years ago and should do it now.
Bulla agrees with ‘just saying’ but is curious why he saw a delivery or Ouija Boards last night by Fed Ex to the UH offices….either for Upper Campus or Lower Campus, but both have a lot in common right now……too many questions and not the right answers…hmmmmm
Al Noga is in graduate school or, at least, taking graduate courses.
Wha . . . Wha???? WHO forgot to tell a Grease that today must needs be Third Person Narrative Day in addition to today being Columbus Day (which a Grease hopes all of you have off as a Grease does :))? This is must what Jesus feels like being sung “happy birthday” to on Christmas! 🙂
Still thinking about that Glee, Mr. Tsai. Anybody else? May as well tell us if you sing along. Was the Glee adorement behind the, um . . . er . . . wait for it . . . wait for it . . . the . . . um . . . er . . .an additional reason behind your . . . uh . . . the . . . SAME OLD SONG [emphasis a Grease’s] headline from Sunday’s blitz section, BWAHAAH HAHAH AHA AHA AHA AAHAAHAHAAHA . . . HAHAH . . . Hahah . . . haahaah . . . haha . . . ha . . . ahh . . . um?
A Grease is more of a Treme guy (Hawaii needs that kind of show portrayed about us; 5-0 can be a bit outlandish on an island alone w/relatively tough gun laws [whhooooops. A Grease editorializes here]). And Homeland is the real deal).
Lobos up next. Whoooo. Wonder who Leilehuans gonna root for.
LizKauai would like to wish Kaliko a happy birthday!
LizKauai was not paying attention to Warrior football for as long as many people here so she would be voting for mor recent players… including Lelie, Brennan and Green.
LizKauai has to go to work today so hiho and happy day off to those who have one.
GO WARRIORS!
huh? what did Bulla say about men who wear kukui nut lei?
inquiring minds want to know.
Bulla takes the 5th on Gigi’s inquiry, and will make not that anything the esteemed blog host might remember is ‘allegedly heresay’:
Hearsay is information gathered by one person from another person concerning some event, condition, or thing of which the first person had no direct experience. When submitted as evidence, such statements are called hearsay evidence. As a legal term, “hearsay” can also have the narrower meaning of the use of such information as evidence to prove the truth of what is asserted. Such use of “hearsay evidence” in court is generally not allowed. This prohibition is called the hearsay rule.
Bulla meant ‘note’ not ‘not’….or knot knot that it’s all tied up….note instead of not
GOOD MORNING HAWAII!
Maybe we should start up a Hawaii Football Hall of Fame.
Really a shame that AL and Niko Noga isn’t in the Circle of Honor.
mo808’s all time favorite Warrior is “……Nate Jackson” too, Bulla!
mo808 recalls how this safety would stand like a brick wall back there and opposing team player thinking, “I’m gonna run through this guy”–but, was blown back with a whip lash and concussion–wondering, “anyone get the license number?”.
mo808 would also like to wish wish Kaliko a very happy birthday!
this blogger would also like to see the Noga brothers receive the UH’s Circle of Honor recognition!
[based on the above, a Grease wonders how a Bulla would celebrate a Martin Luther King, Jr. day.]
ESPN 1420am’s getting it’s share of defenses of Chow. A Chow should just unleash in a press conference. Would be fun to see.
To answer the question at hand, a 3-Prong says “Two Words……..Falaniko Noga”. Never seen more dominant action at line of scrimage since.
Finally, mo808 would like to wish everyone a fabulous Columbus Day (holiday for some but not for this blogger who has to get her butt outta bed and back to work today after a much needed vacation)! Note: this third person speaking is fun but not comfortable (requires too much thought).
🙂 (third person)
Jack Flash thinks Bulla’s comment #36 is the funniest thing he’s heard in a long time! The visual image itself is priceless.
Kapahulukine say Circle of Honor need Jason Elam. Na ka oi UH football kicka dat!
Kapahulukine say kickas peoples too.
Denver Broncos
Elam was drafted out of the University of Hawaii by the Broncos in the third round (70th pick overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft.
Elam holds NFL records for best extra point conversion percentage (.995), most consecutive seasons with at least 100 points (15), fastest to 300 successful field goals, fastest to 1,600 and 1,700 points.[2] Furthermore, Elam was the first player in NFL history to score at least 200 points against three or more teams (San Diego Chargers: 222, Oakland Raiders: 215, Kansas City Chiefs: 203). Elam is also tied with Steve Christie for the most overtime field goals with 9. Elam was named to the Denver Broncos 50th Anniversary Team in 2009.[3]
A kapahulukine also say, no forget Elam good UH kicka:
College career
In four years as the placekicker for the University of Hawaii at Mānoa football team, Elam scored the third-most points in NCAA history (397) and tied for the second-most field goals kicked (79). He held the record for all-time leading scorer in the Western Athletic Conference until 2010 (Broken by Kyle Brotzman of Boise State) and was a three-time All-WAC selection. Elam also majored in communications while at Hawaii.
Morning, Gang!
Wes’side thinks the opening write-up by the Blog Host is great! And that’s just for starters. Wes’side believes fellow bloggers will come up with lots more memorable players who are also just as deserving.
Wes’side is hungry… *excuse him while he goes to make some coffee and search for something to eat…*
My favorite Warriors:
Isaac Sopoaga – he’s a beast and is a mainstay on the 49er’s D-line.
Dan Robinson – Being able to learn JJ’s offense in one year and was key to revival of UH football
Colt Brennan – for obvious reasons
Alex Green – Best RB to go through UH in 20+ years but terribly under-used by Rolo and Mack
Vince Manuwai – one of the best OL to ever play for UH
Travis Laboy – I’ve seen him in the UH weight room and his physique looks like Superman
Chad Owens – c’mon, it’s Mighty Mouse, and could be the best CFL returnman in history
The 2007 WR corps: Bess, Grice-Mullins, Hawthorne, and Rivers
And gotta give love to the kickers
Jason Elam – Best UH kicker
Mat McBriar – Best UH punter
Jeff Ulbrich
Leonard Peters
Travis Laboy
Isaac Sopoaga
Pisa Tinoisamoa
Mighty Mouse
Nate Jackson
Nasti – Nate Ilaoa
West Keli’ikipi
Ashley Lelie
Davone Bess
Ikaika Alama-Francis
Reagan Mauia
Colt Brennan
Michael Carter
Rolo
Colt Brennan
Chad Owens
Davonte Bess
Abraham Elimimian
Quincy Lejay
Derek Briggs
Michael Carter
Travis Simms
Dane Mcarthur
Mark Odom
Pisa Tinoisamoa
Maa Tanuvasaa
Travis Laboy
Nate Ilaoa
Ashley Lelie
WarriorNY says Morning All…
Forgot to mention Pisa Tinoisamoa!!! He was awesome.
Salas!!! This season makes me realize even more how clutch this guy was!
So many good memories. I hope we make some more in my lifetime — none apparently during Chow’s tenure.
Levi Stanley… enough said
Magandang Umagaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
So a iwwthm reads that Chow will stick to the prostyle. A iwwthm hopes [emphasis on hope (emphasis on emphasis)] that coach throws in some screen passes and more option plays.
A iwwthm will be at the next game and a iwwthm encourages all fans to support by showing up.
David Dyas #43 great wide receiver for UH back in the day
Wow, our future QB commit is having a great senior season so far… I hope we can hold onto him…

ST, please do me a favor and call oc16 and tell them to stop showing that lamar game. making me sick watching them pick on a high school fb team and cannot hang with the teams in their league.
niko noga is da man….ok now FIRE CHOW and his STAFF. chow is getting benefits from schroders dad that’s why chow is not pulling him. and chow is not local he is a cali boy but wanna act Local.

I must have misheard Bobby Curran just now say we should be OK on Saturday because the only thing New Mexico can do is run the ball.
niko noga is da man he shud of been in many moons ago….ok now FIRE CHOW and his STAFF. chow is getting benefits from schroders dad that’s why chow is not pulling him. and chow is not local he is a cali boy but wanna act Local.

😎 3rd person and third cup
koakane sasy gooda day 808
and as bulla says take it easy take it easy
sasy=says
Niko Noga
Al Noga
Mark Odom
Travis Sims
Gary Allen
Garrett Gabriel
David Maeva
Jeff Ulbrich
Chad Owens
Walter Briggs
Walter Murray (except for the drop against BYU in the end zone)
koakane,
Bulla says long time no see, you lucky guy! Whew, some rough times for the Tsaiko ohana with the current condition of our UH Warriors….Bulla said ‘our’ not them, those guys, da oddag guys, or who dos guys….’OUR’ UH Warriors….I don’t blame the players, they don’t train to do badly, they don’t practice to fail, and they don’t yearn for shellackings…..now the COACHES….. they have been hired to do a job, the best indication of the success of that hiring is W/L record, but also, as someone has said, ‘are they putting a quality product’ out for the fans…
Bulla will leave you all in your own consuming thoughts, but Bulla supports all the players for their hard work, their dedication, and their choice to play for the 808 🙂
Oh…
Jim Donovan didn’t make that list of favorite JD’s, huh?
win or lose, “Inner-Circle” aloha stadium parking and tailgating, which, at the same time supports Koa Anuenue, is priceless. i’m there this saturday afternoon and for the game.
#81,
There we go! Think positive!
SteveM wishes all bloggers here a “Good Morning”.
ST does a good job of fighting windmills, but it is easier for him to build his own windmill, SteveM thinks.
Wouldnt be the first and last time Donovan said he would do something and nothing happened..
Wouldnt be the first and last time a UH athletic administrator said they would do something and nothing happened….
I’m looking forward to going to the Stadium and watching our Warriors get win #2 on the season. Stand Proud young Warriors. Don’t get down… Fight for every inch of field position… And walk off the field Proud and Humble after your win. I Believe!!
A DoubleB will be cheering from the stands and when it’s all over I hope to have a hoarse voice from cheering.
Lov’in all the favorite player lists… Getting me hyped for this weeks game. Go Warriors!!
Bulla — SteveM got a call on his cell phone at sea between Vancouver and Hawaii. Roaming charge was $2.49 per minute . But available 24/7 when not in port/local cell tower range. Yup, it works…
SAWARRIOR thinks gigi looooooves Rolo! Why would SAWARRIOR think that?!
Although his numbers really didn’t inspire, and he played behind the Hula T, I really liked QB Alex Kaloi. Wanted to see what he could do during his senior year at UH, but unfortunately, he broke his sixth and seventh cervical vertebrae and that ended his football career. Then he went on to become a dentist, now practicing in Waianae.
Speaking of the Lobos, they don’t have a passing QB, however, they do have a freshman QB that can run (Yikes!). So far, they’ve been averaging 11 pass attempts per game and threw only three times with one complete against Texas State. Compared to them, Chow’s offense looks pass-happy and their QB makes Schroeder look like Peyton Manning.
LizKauai thinks that the upper campus should peek into the blog and become inspired by the many, many outstanding Warriors listed here and fall in love with UH Athletics for all the right reasons – and design a win-win situation going forward for the University and for Hawaii…
a shoko believes the Lobos are Lolo with the pass. A iwwthm thinks the same. But………..that…….is…….what……..makes……a Lobo dangerous…a R-U-N….(emphasis on Lobo)
The question a iwwthm has is..how does a Warrior prevent a Lobo from going Loco at a aloha airline field?
Mrs Gorightry…..I proteeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssstttt!
Stack the box with 11. 😉
Tom Mui and Big Hilo aren’t on your list of favorite JDs?
Shoko,
Bulla agrees with the 11, shoots, Bulla would love to throw 12 in just for good measure. Look for a 4-3 set, with all the Defensive Secondary players we have, they gotta do something. The cupboards are bare, bare, bare for linemen, on BOTH sides of the ball 🙁
If WarriorMojo was watching tv and saw a show he didn’t like, he’d simply… change the channel.
The natives are restless; we better beat the Lobos and beat them bad at home.
Niko Noga was the man – had lunch with him back in my UH days in the Towers.
a shoko and a Bulla
sometimes iwwthm paused [wait for it] to make sure a team had all 11 defensive players on a field. at times, it did not appear to be so.
For those that want a new DC. A Al Groh was just canned at Georgia Tech.
Keeeeeedin’!
Many people like to read articles and good articles can attract more people to read and help more people. This article is really a good article for any people to read. No matter men women or children, younger of older. This article is very meaningful from every aspect that is why I love your site. Thank you for giving us so good article. We will your blog support always.
Watching Niko Noga beat up on opposing NFL players was what piqued Michael Ray’s in UH football, despite living thousands of miles away in the pre-internet (thanks Al Gore) days. It is a dran shame he hasn’t been inducted into the Circle of Honor.
*darn* not dran
ST,
Maybe you are on the committee? But considering how things are and have been maybe your votes for the COH wont show up for 10 years…
Its like you vote now but you wont see the results of your own vote kind of thing.
Anybody see Hawaii’s new Feedom Jerseys that they will be wearing on November 24th? Check them out:
http://www.complex.com/art-design/2012/10/under-armour-reveals-freedom-jerseys-for-boston-college-and-hawaii
They look pretty nice.. Too bad they don’t the wins too go along with it lol.
Why has no one mentioned Tim Buchanan’s name? He had 2 great seasons as a linebacker, first Hawaii player to be named as MVP in the Hula Bowl (1969), drafted I believe by Cincinnati.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hula_Bowl
Niko, Semeri, Ron Hall, Jeff Duva, Lyndell Jones, Haslip, Dane MacArthur, Kelly McGill, Samson Satele, Golden Richards, Colin Scotts, Gabriel
Most wouldnt know its home coming.
The push from UH to plug and boast homecoming week should have started the Monday after the Nevada game.
I said this two weeks ago.
When you are trying to promote a team, you must always be on the offensive. After a bad loss. Plug the next home game as much as possible. Its football so no shortage of freebie give away trinkets like other sports have so push that.
If you only try to mention homecoming now, well…. 1-4 doesnt help, but as advertisers/promoters go shouldnt the hype have started a while ago.
Marketers cannot control how the team wins or loses but they can control how they try to market the team and the game itself.
Proaction > reaction
Dont need a fancy degree or job experience to know that.
Lets not forget Sammy Shaw either.
UA Freedom UH Jerseys?
Hell yeah Id buy those!
Jeris White
Levy Stanley
Falaniko Noga
Blane Gaison
Wilbert Haslip
John Woodcock – RIP
When I think about Graves situation I think back to former quarterback Johnny Macon. He was a quarterback for Wags but when Von Apps took over he was moved to wide receiver. deja vu? Still waiting for Macon to bring the bacon.
George Lumpkin
The Future Blog Host and his Then Girlfriend argued about something.
Then the crowd went into a frenzy.
Niko Noga blocked a West Virginia kick.
The Future Blog Host and the Then Girlfriend eventually became the Blog Host and the Wife.
Life is great except … the Blog Host is still sad he missed seeing the Niko Noga’s block.
John Woodcock died?
ST: John Woodcock died of a heart attack at the age of 44 in 1998.
(Jesse)James wishes all the Tsaikos a Good Morning!!!
(Jesse)James is amazed at all the names (Jesse)James can recognize….
The Blog Host thanks KenK for mentioning Ken Buchannanon’s name.
Heh. Sound like “pro tea” (and many “e” reverberations), haaahhahaha.
Pete Townshend on . . . The View????? [Eek! The heck a Grease watching The View]. Interesting backstory regarding The Who’s louds breaking of their instruments at the end of their concerts — they were trying to emulate the louds bombing sounds of WWII bombings of London. Who knew? AGreasewonderedwhyTheWhodidthis. 🙂
Old School Dave.
That is very sad to hear.
No. 120
And that is why he is not known as Rooster Grease.
A Grease agrees with the selection of Salas for today’s blog question of a Tsai/Warrior Beat. Hope an NFL team picks him up :(.
The Blog Host will get teary eyed watching Titanic.
The Blog Host will go into a hissy fit when he doesn’t get invited into the Circle committee.
But the Blog Host will never, ever watch The View.
The Blog Host gets to keep his man card (barely).
lmao
The reality of it all is this, unless the “politics” at UH subsides, then, well, I cannot believe the Circle of Honor is worth a damn.
How in God’s name the two best players in the history of the football program, Al and Niko Noga, are not included, that is absolutely ridiculous.
Not to mention the many others.
This is not, again, not a slight toward the others who have been inducted, but without the best ever……wow.
I can only assume, especially when you add recent accounts, that there are some real damn idiots working on campus.
My God! It’s like inbreeding of the idiots!
I thought I was being generous listing my prediction of 4-8 for the 20-12 season.
It’s not that I don’t believe in Chow, because I do, I really do…However, with the style he wants to play, and I’m talking offensively, he just doesn’t have the right kids.
I mean truthfully, he’s trying to run the Kentucky Derby with Clydesdales.
I give 2, maybe 3 years to recruit the right type of kids, and then I’ll judge.
I love the discipline he’s trying to place on the kids, because for too long, we had a bunch of “punks” representing our state school. It was embarrassing.
I do believe in Chow, I buy into what he’s selling, I like that he speaks honestly and truthfully when I see / hear him.
I read a bunch of arm-chair Q-B’s chiming in about Sean Schroeder, but c’mon people, exactly who the hell is he supposed to throw the ball too…?
The poor kid’s running for his life every snap, UH offensive line play has been horrible. And that’s saying it nicely.
Defense, to be honest, it’s really starting to concern me.
I do, however, love the idea of playing Benny Fonua at middle linebacker.
Go Chow! Go get some recruits! I hope the “local boys” stay home!
Watching all of the games that Niko Noga played at Aloha Stadium was a treat. He truly was a dynamic player that changed the game whenever he was in the game. UH’s Circle of Honor isn’t complete without him.
Played a lot of basketball with Niko Noga at the UHawaii. Best darn athlete I ever seen. Well, maybe in the top 2 or 3. Blaine Gaison
was a super athlete too. Favorite Rainbows Larry Sheerer, Larry Arnold, Larry Cole, Albert Holmes, Jim Kalili, Tim Buchanan, Jeris White, Harris Matsushima,
Levi Stanley.
Nice article about Mike Milovale. Milovale speaks highly of Coach Chow if you go to the article that I link to below:
http://www.thecalifornian.com/article/20121008/SPORTS/310080013
I put Levi Stanley on par with Niko Noga. And since I am an old-timer, I want to mention players from 50 years past – Larry Sherrer (RB 1969-71), John Woodcock (DT 1974-75), Mark Odom (LB 1987-90), Jim Mills (OT 1979-82 CFL Hall of Fame), Ralph Kaspari (FB 1967-69), Cliff LaBoy (DT/DE 1973-75 Father of Travis LaBoy), Nuu Faaola (FB 1982-85), Golden Richards (WR 1972), Gary Allen (RB/WR/KR 1978-81) and Larry Cole (OL 1972).
koakane agrees 🙂 with bulla man……always for the players cause dey put it on da line
#104 no care for dem 😯 socks but rest of unis nice
koakane likes #111 naming Blaine Gaison 😮 had some exciting games when he shifted to qb.
yes yes lower campus graduate and first ❓ little all american line man in the early 70’s. also another super bball player (prides passion) govna Jimmy Kalili
personally seen bruddah broke off the vw turn signal just by pushing it down 😯
Good morning Tsaikos!
Da clueless wahine’s favorites:
– Matt Harding
– Mento Maeva
– Noga brothers
– Chad Owens
– Keith Ah Yuen 😀
Haahahahahah, hai, hai that namae (“name” in the Japanese) would’ve been more prudent as a Grease is a ningen (man). Day off, channel surfing (like THAT is an excuse ;)), miteru‘d (“saw” in the Japanese; but, of course, not like that nutty [kichigai] movie, Saw) Townshend. Had to watch, heh. But, yes, a ningen watching The View is not quite ningen.
Chicken Grease is a bit of an esoteric tribute to a Grease’s grandpapy, R.I.P. Grandpapy . . . really fought hard [a Grease blows kiss to sky].
jm good one
(Jesse) James thinks #124 is a good one….LOL
koakane now believes blog host is a Steel Magnolia fan 😆
Tsaikos.. all of you.. tsaikos!… completely tsychotic…
mih – #139 – 😆
If I remember correctly, Levi Stanley was about 195 lbs when he entered UH out of Waianae HS in the late 60s. He worked hard in the garage sized weight room UH had attached next to Klum Gym and built himself into a 250 lb defensive tackle (good size in those days). Same story with offensive lineman Dan Audick, who went on to play many years with the Chargers and 49ers.
(Jesse)James thinks Koakane watched Steel Magnolias…. 🙂
Oh yeah…
madeinhawaii would like to congratulate Emily Hartong for her second BWC player of the week award.
WTG Emily!!
Message from Chancellor Tom Apple
———–
Aloha Manoa Ohana,
Our university has been going through some rough times the past few weeks. While I believe that I have a good working relationship with the President and the Board of Regents, I want to make it clear that it is you whom I represent. I am here to advocate for the students, faculty, staff and alumni of Manoa. My commitment is to you.
I have been going around and speaking with many of you about issues of concern here on campus, but I would like to step up the dialog. Let’s continue to work together and move forward, to facilitate students finding their passion and to support research that matters. There are so many good things happening in our UH Manoa community. Let’s build on them. What do you want for the future of UH Manoa? What are your ideas for improved communication and campus unity? Please think about this in the coming days and articulate your thoughts to me at the following address: tatapple5@gmail.com. I will respond in a collective manner in another email soon. I believe that our greatest challenges offer us some of our greatest opportunities.
Mahalo nui,
Tom Apple
#94 WarriorMojo:
WarriorMojo should be added to favorite JDs.
tommui does not have a JD.
iwwthm – #144 – first thing that jumped out was Mr. Apple’s non-UH email addy. hmmmmm….
Lets create a UH Circle Of Shame,we got plenty of candidates. 🙂
first thing that jumped out at me was the line
Uh.. and this is opposed to things that doesn’t really matter in his mind? Say, maybe ‘athletics’?
“doesn’t” s/b “don’t”…. didn’t fix he verb agreement when I changed the subject…. so solly..
Nike honcho Phil Knight was in the post game after the Oregon – UW game talking about why this victory is important to him. Guys like Knight and T Boone Pickens (Oklahoma State) seem to have a lot more influence than it appears. Is this a good thing? LSU HC Les Miles didn’t think so when he was the head coach at Oklahoma State and became apparent that it was Picken’s program.
greenthumb is enjoying the virtual stroll down memory lane. So many excellent players, so many memories of friends and games and such. gt is surprised that Noga and Elam are not already in the Circle of Honor.
greenthumb thanks iwwthm #24 for the chancellor’s message and is struggling against the urge to laugh at the email address (say it out loud as a word to see why). GT chuckles over him saying “articulate your thoughts to me” because while that is better than the icky “inbox me” phrasing and is grammatically correct, why couldn’t he have said “send me” … simple can be better on so many occasions.
Speaking of which, GT finds this third-person stuff difficult. But somehow also a reminder of UH days and the “pens that lost themselves” (odd memory of language grammar).
That little note by Apple seems like an attempt to turn academics against athletics… I don’t like it at all… Should have been.. “”finding their passion and to support what matters to them.”
P.S. GT thinks it would have been fun to have “talk like a pirate day” celebrated on the blog this year, and respectfully asks the Blog Host to consider that for next Sept. 19.
Academics should and ALWAYS will be #1.
146, yep GT wondered about the gmail addy and came up with three possibilities.
1. spam?
2. if legit, having the responses go to a non-institutional addy might give the sender protection.
3. is it easier to print and archive gmail mail than institutional mail?
152, those two points are his two marketing buzz points. They were capitalized in press releases and/or other UHM stuff.
It ain’t spam.
Sent to my UH email from the UH announce email address.
144 iwwthm, just in case: Thank you for posting the text of that e-mail. It is important to know and kind of you to share. The spam comment was in no way commenting on you, my guess had been that you vetted it as sent from a legit address before posting it. (Tho one does wonder where Mr. Apple’s Oxford comma went in his third sentence.
Gmail and UH mail are the same thing now.
UH converted to gmail a little while back to cut costs. google lets educational institution use their email free.
Greenthumb,
Oh no I wasn’t implying that you were. Just clarifying for all. Mahalo
iwwthm
Not disagreeing with that … but it does seem like a thinly veiled attempt to rally the student body on to his side. You shouldn’t be pitting one against the other as Chancellor. How does that help?
Directed to a private gmail as an Apple suspects such email would be read by others in a secretive style if he used his “hawaii.edu” email (but, what’s to prevent potential atriculators from sending their email there, anyway?)?
“Who do you trust, who do you trust?!?!” – The Joker, Batman, 1989
159. Seems like schools have certain latitudes with gmail implementation, and some of that is driven by the actual user. I guess my point was the address in the e-mail looked different than his primary UH address would be expected to look, as in ______ (at) _____.edu and that although UH mail is now tied to google, edu-type gmail does behave a little differently than consumer-type gmail.
160 iwwthm, we were typing at the same time. It’s all good.
I thought gmail was free to everyone?
Heh. A Grease could’ve simply mega dittos’d a greenthumb.
As I web site possessor I believe the content material here is rattling great , appreciate it for your hard work. You should keep it up forever! Best of luck.
Gmail is free to everyone.
But the Hawaii.edu emails use the google platform. It functions just the same as the public one.
#127, Schroeder’s targets…
Billy Ray Stutzmann – returning leading receiver 78 catches 910 yds. 4 tds All-WAC 2nd team, top 100 recruit out of high school, 6th best from Hawaii, 3 time All State
Jeremiah Ostrowski – returning Senior receiver 65 catches 687 yds 5 tds 2 time All State and 06 state offensive POY
Trevor Davis – returning starter 28 catches 366 yds 3 tds Top 20 East Bay All Star in HS
Justin Clapp – returning part time starter 38 catches 356 yds 4 tds
Chris Gant – 2010 JC All American 81 catches 1134 yds 17 tds
Darius Bright – returning receiver All conference in HS
Cecil Doe – All State 1st team HS
Chinedu Amadi – 1st team all CIF HS
Corey Paclebar – 1st team All league HS
Duke Bukowski – 2 time All State HS
Harold Moleni – 2 time All State, TE POY as a senior
Clark Evans – JC All American #4 TE in the nation, 34th best JC recruit, 81 st prospect out of CA HS
Ryan Hall – 37th best TE, All State HS
Scott Harding – returning receiver Freshman All American
Ethan Watanabe – All district 1st team HS
Joey Iosefa, Will Gregory, John Lister, Sterling Jackson, Jared Leaf, etc…
So I think we have enough targets, experience, and guys who are big time players. Yes some are hurt, some are young, but there is talent. Enough for him to throw to. From what I’ve seen the Oline for being inexperienced is doing okay in pass protection. He could help out by scrambling or throwing the ball away at times…oh well guess we’ll have to continue to watch this for the rest of the season…
165, there is gmail for everyone. Google is tying up agreements with universities that let those schools use its platform to host their EDU accounts. Some schools apparently handle the use and mirroring differently.
Wes’side apologizes profusely for the oversight, and wishes Kaliko Lee a happy birthday!
Wes’side would also like to thank a Garret for the link to the Milovale article… brings back fond memories of Monterey Bay and surrounding areas (Salinas, Carmel By the Sea, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, and yes, even Marina, Seaside, and a little bit of Castroville and Watsonville).
Really like the our UA Wounded Warrior uniforms!
Shoot, if we were still with Nike, they probably would have sent UH a cheap US flag patch with 48 stars on them. 😆 😆
Ahaahah! Nice delivery. Bravo.
A Grease wishes Kaliko Lee a happy birthday (yappari tanjyobi!).
very nice submit, i actually love this website, keep on it
So they would use the Gmail platform but keep their @edu identity? or have to use @gmail?
Da “WedgeBusta” Semeri Ulufale.
We maintain our edu address
A Sherlock sensibility of a Grease supposes:
• Apple might’ve recently created his “tatuntaapple” gmail, whatever the gmail name is . . . one NOT created on UH computer hardware.
• Will be checking gmails from this gmail address on a computer not connected w/UH network.
Discuss.
LizKauai like gmail. She thinks some UH folks act more like @hotmail sometimes…
Some of us are hot males..
178, a GT thinks that a chancellor asking for UH community feedback (theoretically people with .edu addresses) would have been transparent about why he was directing replies to that address.
There could be no further meaning than that he created that address off the UH grid so he could sort mail … or maybe not. The fact that there is a 5 makes a GT wonder, are there 1-4 or was this a random numbering because it truly is a consumer gmail addy and other folks named apple or wanting apple in their username had registered the briefer variants.
MIH- LizKauai thinks some are yahoos too
I think we are looking a little too deep into an email address.
What gets me is that a regular hot’male’ is free.. but the premium service hotmail is a “fee-mail”… go figure…
What do you expect, I suppose, from an entity whom is recognized as micro soft…

Truth be told, the Noga brothers put UH football on the map. Because of what they did as players, NFL and Div 1 teams started to systematically recruit Hawaii and Samoa. Until the Noga’s played at UH, no one (NFL or college) seriously recruited Hawaii systematically.
AP all american, man handling Nebraska, and Remington. This gets you noticed. This is what the Nogas did.
Whoops!! Libradoc cut off the information inadvertently.
Individuals may orally testify on items on this agenda during the Public Comment Period. Please call the Board office prior to the meeting or notify the Secretary of the Board at the meeting site. Written testimony is also accepted. Testifiers shall limit their testimony to three (3) minutes.
Thanks for the great post!
Sugoi (“cool” “favorable” in the Japanese language), your analysis, greenthumb. Reminiscent of Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Ph.D. own focused discourse. Apple did mention “transparency.”
Hai, WHERE is 1-4. Hmph.
This is excellent thinking by a greenthumb.
LizKauai thinks Capitolist/WassupDoc posts useful info…
She sends her support and good thoughts out to the Regents – especially those who are solid Warrior fans… she thinks they know who they are…
Because AlaWai thinks he is? He is appleplexed by the “shibai” in the valley. He thinks “research” needs to include the “ethics of lobotomies upon university administrators.” He thinks it may have already taken place!
AGreasestronglydisagrees. More than a few readers of that letter (tegami in the Japanese language) by Apple must certainly [Stevie] wonder why (dosh’te in the . . . well, you know by now) an Apple would use his non-UH mail when he is clearly addressing UH matters (did a Grease misread? Was he asking non-UH related folk for buttermilk dressing recipes instead?).
It is quite suspicious to use an email outside of his own UH email address, to say the least. Remember when coach Jones used UH letterhead for personal stuffs? And he was winnin’ games at the time.
Hope the local media picks up on this Apple gmail (ah, an oxymoron of sorts, ahahahah ahaa aaha . . . ahah . . . ha).
Thanks for letting us know about this letter, iwonder’.
190, a greenthumb says a humble thanks … and does want to thank a Grease for the trigger of the spelling of the e-mail address in question. There was a similarity to “tantaran” and a connection to current times.
Lee Cataluna had some interesting things to say; could not find the column a gt remembered, but did find these.

#41 chicken grease…. why do u say u wonder who the leilehuan would root for. cause if u thinking of the qb andrew manley he plays for new mexico state aggies and not the lobos.
I don’t understand why Schroeder was GIVEN the job with so little competition. He transferred late this summer from Duke, a 3-9 team year after year, where he never saw the field. So no spring. He was named the starter after THREE practices. The way Chow talks, he has more job security than the Queen of England. And we have QBs like Graves and Shutter who to me look like they have WAY more mobility, get rid of the ball quicker, and better arm strentgh. Graves had a 127 QB rating when he played last year. I know Chow knew Schroeder when the kid was a high school player, but it just doesn’t make sense, especially since Graves who was slated #2 doesn’t even travel with the team. What happened?
Ackkkk. A Grease stands corrected, yes, yes, you are correct manoa#1 much as it besieges a Warrior fan’s soul to admit in this case. Thanks, all the same for noting this error on a Grease’s part. Hey. Where were the rest of you to correct a Grease (bwahah).
Anyway, you know Leilehua folks root for anyboty, a Grease kids!!!!
Thanks again, manoa#1.
I liked up to you will receive carried out proper here. The cartoon is attractive, your authored material stylish. nevertheless, you command get bought an shakiness over that you want be delivering the following. unwell no doubt come further until now again since exactly the similar just about very often inside case you shield this increase.
no problem CG everybody makes mistake.
Healing thoughts to Art Laurel!
Does that mean J Hardy-Tuliau is okay?
SPAM gives me a headache, poorly written SPAM gives me a migraine…
Eh! I’m tellin’ ya d1shima is wishing Kaliko Lee a Happy Birthday!
Congrats to Emily Hartong!
mih – #202 – just fry ’em! 😀
I’m saying d1shima thinks not including the Nogas is a continually mistaken oversight. I also wanna let you know that d1shima wonders if they were alums of a certain Wilder Ave. skoo, would it be different? o_O
I understand d1shima is wondering IS IT SATURDAY YET?!?!
The Blog Host and the KITV Sports Anchor saw Jane Croson today at UH. They wish her well.
(Jesse)James thinks d1shima may be on to something since they were graduates of lower campus…. 🙂
(Jesse)James also is wondering if d1shima is coming to the T-gate this weekend? 🙂
I want (J)J to know that d1shima is hoping to make a hurried appearance at the TsaikoGate this week after pauhana and befoa kickoff…
I can well imagine that d1shima has healing wishes for all ailing Warriors.
Does the Blog Host not wish to be disturbed for the next 3-4 hours? Of course, his J-E-T-S will get crushed.
In Jamaica, they say it’s Christopher Come-rob-us Day.
I haven’t watched UH football for too long, so no oldies to recognize. I just consider the recent players my “nephews”.
Hey, I won a dinner at the Hawaii Price by singing the UH Fight Song on Saturday. 🙂
Oops that should have been Prince.
4 out of 5 in the contest were Tsaikos!
Slugger wishes Kaliko a Happy Birthday!

how come this blog does not have an edit button?

What did David Graves do to be jerked around so much by
Coach Chow. He had a bad spring game, but to go from the only QB with game experience to being a receiver, QB again, then receiver?
J-E-T-S defense looks familiar.
I am relating to jmxxxx that d1shima thinks you may be correct…after all, the Blog Host is eternally optimistaken when it comes to the J-E-T-S!
WWF hopes that the 3rd person speak is for today only.
Wafan hopes everyone enjoyed Monday . . . such as it was.
Bet all the military school will want Under Armour ‘Wounded Warrior Project’ uniforms.
Hawaii Warriors got the best looking ones. It’s a killer! Hoping they play that way vs. UNLV
Warriors could wear this everytime they play vs. Army, Air Force, Navy Academy School
Wafan continues to be mystified by the absence of the Nogas from the COH. One might be led to believe there are personal grudges preventing their inclusion. Perhaps it might be time for those individuals to get a life and move on.
Eeek!!! What can a Mr. Tsai tell us about her situation? Go: _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.
Also, waitaminute, waitaminute, waitaminute. Me ame furu (“eyes crying like rain” in the Japanese language) at a Titanic vs. . . . vs. a Grease watching The View when Pete Townshend on and thelatterloseshismancard!?!? No, no, iie. Nai make sense da yo. 😉
Anybody heard Coach Chow on Inside Access saying that SDSU’s QB ran on specific plays made for his running skills? But that we didn’t have QB’s that can run?
How about giving Graves or Alo a try at Wildcat, Coach?
One celebrates Hartong’s BWC POW selection.
Bravissimo!
Heal up wounded Warriors.
Circle of Honor: What da committee thinking? Not bashing those who are in the circle only those that who do the selection and pass over deserving athletes.

#169…..still don’t get it huh?
all that on paper means nothing. as they say, that’s why they play the game. and in playing the game your paper product bears zero weight. why don’t you compile a list of all the opposing teams defensive players too while you are at it.
why shroeder?
to me it’s simple. shroeder will either be the starter next year or give us a solid #2. if you look at a whole entire 4 quarter game hands down shroeder is who you want under center. i’ve seen shroeder move out of the pocket, slide, scramble and make plays by hanging on to the ball and making great passes at the last second while taking brutal hits. he’s not perfect, but it’s clear he has the best grasp of the system.
funny…negative plays seem to stick out in people’s minds in losses where it blinds them to plays that were brilliant.
fans with selective memory…pitty
226. coach is way past 45, da bugga is stubborn and set in his ways. u remember how a lot of grandpas, grandmas are? same ting.
I know coach Chow knows more about football than I ever will even if I devoted the rest of my life to it.
So my suggestion comes from what many top colege coaches and NFL coaches have done– Dump the tight end and substitute another receiver lined up as a slot or split wide like an X or Z receiver. Those big receivers that replace the TE are among the most productive and exciting players today– Boise makes good use of theirs. Even a smaller receiver would be more valuable than putting a TE inside to draw another big defender. Use an extra offensive guard instead of a TE as a blocker if you need blocking– they do a better job than most tight ends.
Chow has a fullback/Hback/R receiver he can still use for blocking inside and the angle blocks the tight ends do. He also has the running back to block as well. Or he can use a receiver for those players lined up as a slotback.
Make this
231. oh boy, i need an edit button. i think i just upset half this blog with the granpa comment.
if you are not in the circle of honor…does that mean you are in a world of dishonor?
apple is spinning again. he spins so much he’s already worked himself down to a mush of apple sauce.
apple is playing two sides of the fence and i am going to throw this in this mix….
greenwood has some kind of science or something credential that not many people have. it came out in apple’s testimony that he does not have that same thingee that greenwood has and said he’d like to have one, or obtain that status.
is it not out of the possibility then… that greenwood says to apple, follow the program and i will recommend you to our organization…or that apple is “hoping” by doing some things greenwood will recommend him???
koakane also wondering 😕
…probably upset my english teacher too, wit such poor grammar.
#233..you are right, older people are set in their ways.
when chow opened in the pistol, it was then clear to me that yes, he is recognizing some things and willing to make changes. that speaks a lot that he will change. we might not win games yet, but he is making adjustments and will zero in on things.
#233 When I began to surf decades ago, other surfer’s would respond to me with “Braddah”.
Years later, the younger surfers now call me “Uncle”.
I don’t look forward to the day when they will one day will respectfully refer to me as “Grandpa”. . . and I hope I won’t be considered stubborn and set in my ways. Gunnfunnit. . .
@WWF, older surfers are called “legends”.
Warning: Strolling on the shore and big surf don’t mix.
Hey, now, waitaminute. Dr. King wasn’t the only one responsible for procuring civil rights . . . but, he’s got his own day, too.
@Chicken Grease
He’s more deserving than Chris.
237. chow showed the pistol during the USC game i believe. it’s part of his playbook. my past posts suggested he use multiple formations, ACE formation, pistol, spread option package (5-6 plays w/graves) etc… its nothing new.
Moocher,
Go ahead and ride the Schroeder jock strap. To me he sucks and I could care less about what you think he does brilliant. His brilliance has our offense rated at the bottom tier of all college football. Our passing game is horrendous and non existent. To say he has no one to pass to or a line to block is BS! Yes there have been the fair share of OLine breakdowns and dropped passes, but his brilliance only shines through when??? An occasional downfield throw? Oh he looks good cause after holding on to the ball for a half hour he throws to a receiver who bails him out. He is not consistent at all, he cannot sustain a drive to save his life, running is an oxymoron, throwing the ball away to avoid a sack is unheard of. On paper he may look decent but like you said it doesn’t do him justice because he continually proves to be mediocre at best. I mean get real, and believe me I get it. I get that by this guy remaining as the QB expect nothing less than what we’ve seen so far, total blowouts and ass whoopings! He cannot win the game on his own obviously, but he is the key to making the offense go which it is stagnant. We are to the halfway point of the season almost, I’m still waiting for his supposed “it” factor to kick in… I didn’t expect much but I haven’t seen any improvement
237. cont…. but yes, on offense i did like what i saw formation wise, but still too many mistakes out on the field, also, sometimes chow’s play selection is predictable. IMO
I actually know a little but I think it should come from the volleyball blog writer. I can respect boundaries.
A papa thinks that what makes Levi Stanley’s former record really remarkable was that he was a lineman, not linebacker. He also could bench press over 500lbs. I thought he was already in the Circle of Honor though but a papa could be wrong.
238. first sign of being old and stubborn is using the old school, “gunnfunnit. j/k
244. take out “sometimes”. that didn’t make any sense.
Levi Stanley’s number was 76?
234 Moocher, that honor you remembered Apple mentioning … yeah, in that context it was a little less than transparent. Perhaps it was her government work — associate director of science with the White House office of science and technology policy. Or maybe her more recent election to the American academy of arts & sciences? http://currents.ucsc.edu/04-05/05-02/awards-greenwood.asp
SAWarrior #249~ number was 74, the year that was his last at UH.
aWzfDE I appreciate you sharing this blog.Much thanks again.
my bad respect blog master ethical and correct decision
251. ohhhh, thank you. 76 sticks in my head for some reason.
cedric benson may be out for da year, alex green’s time has come.

Stevie WONDER[!] !!!!!!!!!!
Uh. Anybody from the UH talk to Obama yet? Who could talk to Stevie . . . who could . . . um . . . Chancellor Apple? Can you use gmail incarnate # 5 to email a President Obama and . . .
Humm. Croson’s long time friend and occasional beach partner Summer Ross recently quit Pepperdine to pursue a beach pro career, could Croson be joinning her ? I don’t know.
I think there should be a reunion of sorts (dinner event) of past UH Warrior football players. make it a fundraiser for the Athletic department. I bet that would bring out fans
I think Robert Kekaula must have graduated from the school of “I don’t ask any hard questions; I just keep smiling” journalism.
259. hey obachan, what does obachan mean?
watching the replay of saturdays game and the san diego st rb took mike sellars for a 10 yard ride to the end zone.
yeah, sellars was trying to strip the ball loose.
next player’s uniforms, i hope UA get’s player inputs on it. if i was a player i’d say take out that hideous striping down the back of the pant leg and replace it with a tattoo shark tooth design down the sides, like what is down the middle of the helmets. or, have a Hawaiian Warrior spear down the sides of the pant legs.
J-E-T-S blew-it, blew-it, blew-it!!!
Moocher, I CAN remember positive plays from LAST year, and I’m talking about after Moniz went down and we had the QBs we have now. When for example the Hawaii offense had a lead over BYU in the second half (unfortunately Graves got hurt.) The game before Graves led Hawaii over Tulane with crazy stats in 3 qtrs. And the game before that when he entered in the second quarter against Fresno State he brought us back for a lead. So Hawaii fans shouldn’t see this as a throw away year just because Moniz is gone, or because Chow has to work in his new system. Team I see now can’t score against BYU, and the Fresno State game I hate to say will be a train wreck. I still can’t figure what Chow sees in him, and why Graves and other kids who came to Hawaii first (not Duke, which is not exactly a football power house) seem to have no chance. Put yourself in there place. Don’t buy this rebuilding BS. We were 6-7 last year, with plenty of players back. Only way we get there now is playing Lamar 6 times. Chow taking Hawaii wrong direction big time.
Thanks for your grateful informations, this blogs will be really help for Exam results.
I needed to create you one very small observation to help say thanks a lot again for these precious tips you’ve shared above. This is simply unbelievably open-handed of you to make without restraint all numerous people could possibly have made available as an e-book to get some cash for their own end, particularly now that you might have tried it in case you desired. These points as well worked to be the easy way to fully grasp many people have the same fervor like my own to learn a little more pertaining to this issue. I believe there are many more pleasant situations up front for folks who scan through your site.
Yeah. Good third person narrative clinic today. Good luck on your exam, yeah, ‘specially with such expressions as “grateful informations” and “this blogs”, mmph, good luck, indeed..
You know . . . let a Grease toot his own horn. A Grease mentioned previously that these Senate-based, well, what hath been resulted in “informational hearings,” would be a turning point. Changes made. Lot of youse said “what’ll this do?” “What good does this do?” Well, looky look:
• Greenwood’s job being reviewed by Regents
• B. Kobayashi RESIGNS from AKA
• Apple’s dubious email (mambo) # 5
Things are a-movin’. Movin’ on up. Change coming to those who PREACH change to the rest of us. Amen.
265. sometimes a new HC likes to play “their” guys, players THEY brought in. coaches made no promises/commitments to players/families that another HC brought in. IMO
I’ve seen it happen at other schools, not saying Chow is like that , but u never know. correct me if i’m wrong, but JJ’s 1st year at SMU, he started HIS recruit, Bo Levi Mitchell (true freshman) , a player he brought in instead of a returning sr starter to run HIS system.

You do realize you were replying to SPAM right?

Hey, uh, “latest on Croson October 8th, 2012 By Cindy Luis” is mentioning mentions on Croson “from other blogs” . . . introduced the rumor of “drug trafficking . . .” (that blog’s words, not a Grease’s) . . . uh, didn’t see any such speculation on this hea Warrior Beat.
who the heck is Croson?!
[an owl coos]
Al Groh was a boob as a defensive coordinator and our man at G Tech gave him the boot mid-season. Is Groh worse than our DC? Is anyone?
Too bad all the coaches can’t get the boot.
A sure sense Chow think’s he’s a great coach. Clueless. Sad. I feel sorry for the bum.
Tuioti in particular seems to be neck deep in turmoil. Yikes!
Georgia Tech’s HC and former UH O coordinator Paul Johnson has fired former NFL and Virginia HC, DC Al Groh. Groh’s defense has allowed 40points per game the last 3 games.
Kobayashi resigning from A. Koa Anuenue hurts the football program and the UH athletic program besides Tom Apple.
lava beat me to the punch. lol
Ladies and gentlemen . . . Mr. Stephen Tsai on Inside Access with Norm Chow on OC16 right now.
Mr. Tsai is the calm voice of reason. “They have a good system.”
The coolest heads thrive on Warrior Beat.
Hahahahaha. Tsai interviewing players on this show, querying Warriors on “shaka” and “favorite local foods.” (“Chow Fun” — a double entendre?) “Local expressions.”
269: I get what you’re saying and you are right. I see that in business too, managers bringing in guys they know, knew in past vs. those that had been with company for years. Difference in your compare though is Mitchell did not have years off, was named starter as a freshman and threw for over 4,500 yards in 19 games, then got hurt sophomore year. Mitchell had skills that jumped out at anyone and I think he plays for Calgary in CFL now. Schroeder on the other hand had not played in a game since high school, which I believe was 3 years if he redshirted at Duke, and I think he was pretty far down in depth chart from what I read. Then shows up to Hawaii this summer and named starter after 2 or 3 practices. Now seems to have 100% job security, no matter what… Just seems odd, but admitedly I’m not at these practices. I just see the games.
I continue to be amazed at well, really, some of the absolute “cluelessness”.
People bagging on Sean Schroeder, still. Are y’all kidding me?
Some even questioning if he actually wont he job outright?
I’m pretty sure most of ya’ll were not at every practice during Fall camp. I’m pretty sure the coaching staff was.
Now I’m getting ticked off.
Again, I ask, “Exactly who the hell is he supposed to throw it to? Exactly who the hell is blocking for him?”
Sorry, just had to vent.
I’m not happy about Hawaii’s record (1-4), but c’mon, a little common sense please…….!!!
Lava usually does. Yuk yuks.
Did you, uh, eventually get your “Croson” question answered, SAWARRIOR? (see # 277)

275 tommui, totally agree that trust trumps past acts. (Also need to give a nod here to who[m]ever is keeping Wikipedia up to date.
In searching out the information to reply to Moocher’s 234, it was informative to identify certain must-airs and positioning on which she and the handlers focused. One supposes those might’ve been a clue, or maybe they were subtle enough then that they are more visible in retrospect. By this I don’t mean the earlier financial stuff, although that should have prompted direct inquiry by the hiring body. More the atmospherics — tenor and tone, if you will.
#284 i hear you. like i said earlier chow is full of it.
again….ANY quarterback looks good in the past system.
rolo…nfl, nope
robinson…nfl, nope
chang…nfl, nope
brennan…nfl, nope
moniz…nfl, nope
in large, the system made those quarterbacks look better. no matter who we plugged in, they did well. but NONE could do well outside of that system and at the next level.
so here we have a new system and frankly, shroeder is the best fit. this current system is boring, chow already stated compared to the run and shoot it would be. besides, any other quarterback will have receivers that cant get open or separation, receivers that still drop balls, running backs and receivers that do not maintain blocks, o-line that is non consistent–wake up, shroeder is but a small part of the problem. it’s like putting shroeder in a yugo and telling him to win nascar. although he can drive and knows what to do, the rest of parts just are not there-so what…blame the driver???
Wow!
So (#290) – only if you make it into the NFL as a QB are you any good?
Is that what you’re saying?
So none of those guys, Rolo, Chang, Brennan, Moniz…none of them are worth a darn….?
Please tell me you’re kidding?
Whoa. This is like part of the Inception original script.
You know, folks . . . Norm Chow’s Inside Access provides some good reasoning, good information about where the football Warriors are now, as expounded upon by Chow and by Mr. Tsai.
Chow’s working from the ground up. I mean, this is a REMINDER to all of us. Some of you are fixated too much on the “blowout” factor. Chow has to be given a chance to do things his way. Ship’s cap’n.
Stephen Tsai . . . he give a good, objective view of things in his reporting role.
We don’t need a 12-0 season going into a major bowl in order to . . . believe. Remember “believe”?
Anyway. This season’s looking as if it will be divided into two groups — those who think Coach Chow should be given a chance as new head coach for the Warriors and those who call for his resignation after just one season. We’ll see who wins by the end of, say, January.
291. i think you missed Moocher’s point.
graves or any other player is free to go.
steele jantz? stump mitchell?
if it sounds cold…yes it could be. you don’t play someone because you feel bad for them, you play them because they earned it and you have faith in them.
i like graves a lot. and yes it is a bummer for sure. he had a choice to stay or go. not an easy one and i can appreciate that. but i’ll submit this to ponder:
colt brennan could have turned pro after his junior year-looking back he should’ve. he CHOSE to stay at hawaii and things did not work out for a future in football.
graves CHOSE to stay here while others left. and sadly, it’s not working out for him. this is where maybe i am different. i would tell graves thank you for thinking about me, the school, the fans, but at some point you need to think of yourself. and just as you want to support us, we will support you no matter what you decide.
david was #1 in spring, he had his shot. he needs to dig deep, search, and go for it balls to the wall whatever it is. i’m a fan of graves and i do hope he plays but to say he is better then shroeder in this system…well, i just don’t see it.
Um – #293 – I apologize, you were right
#291
nope….just saying we got used to seeing great performances. and no matter how good we saw them to be, we have to admit, in part, it was the system that made them look good.
the system we are in now, it’s not going to make ANY quarterback look good as the run and shoot did.
Since you asked Green & White: Youtube 2011 BYU vs. Hawaii Sr. Game. Top 3 receivers: Davis 6 receptions 111 yards, Ostrowski 6 receptions, Stutzman 6 receptions. All here. I’m tired of people bagging on our receivers. By the way, we had 3 touchdowns that game. Everyone talks about the 11 starters we lost. Guess what, that happens almost every year to every college team. Let’s not dis the kids that have been here to spin everything in Chow’s favor. He doesn’t walk on water, and by the way not too many 18 year olds even know who he is, so his name won’t mean much with 1 or 2 win seasons. This is not a throw away year.
Alawai 229,
Those are interesting. Kinda toned down for UA, I think. I can’t make out what is on the helmet. Zero school colors on them though. Pretty sure most other schools have their school colors in theirs in the past. Hawaii blue?
(Why Schroeder)
In response: The systems are entirely different. All I’m saying is, if each individual doesn’t adapt, fit in etc, well, it is what it is.
I have never bagged on current player, never would. But I have read people bag on Schroeder. Why?
For what reason?
In the coaches eyes, the kid won the QB battle. Shouldn’t that be ‘Nuff said?
Like most UH fans, I too was thrilled by the effort Graves gave in 2011, like Tulane, that was exciting. Fact is though, I know for sure he wouldn’t have been the front runner if there was no coaching change. I guarantee you that.
Chow credentials, be what they are, are un-matched, by any coach that has ever had the job here at UH, or has ever applied for the job here at UH. Period.
Do I think he walks on water…? Heck no!
But I am interested to see what he can do, what kind of players he can recruit. At least for once in the last 14 seasons, UH has a head coach that actually cares about recuiting. Specifically, local kids.
Also I guess the Redskins never should have drafted RGIII because clearly he could never play in a pro-style offense. Oh wait, a mobile QB CAN take a snap from center, and a team can even incorporate plays around that players strength, ie mobility, within pro-style. Not saying Shutter or Graves are RGIII obviously, but I think the “system” talk is crazy.
Hey there kev-1. A Grease wondered where your posts were today. And, re: Ala Wai 229 . . . those UH special uniforms look decidedly “Captain America” to a Grease. If not for the success of the Star-Spangled Avenger’s film and Marvel’s The Avengers movie, would this uni’ look like that?
Let’s agree on this 299. Not cool to bag on any college athlete. Schroeder seems like a very likeable kid, and I’m pulling for him. Not bagging on him. But I think we can question coaching decisions in this forum, especially around the most important position in sports, quarterback. One thing I do like is the running game has improved. I’d really love to see Graves or Shutter have a shot, because I think we’d be better, that’s all. Out….
(#302)
Fair enough…
Sup Grease . . . Looks like I missed a lot, especially a debate about the QB position. I said my bit on that already. Looking forward to next week. If Coach wants Schroeder, I’m all in. I still want to see more juice and zip on his passes though.
Yeah, those unis are pretty Captain America-ish. Given our school color is green, I thought for sure camouflage would have been in the works. I googled for more pictures of the uni to see different angles, but only saw the one. Whatever works though, it is the cause that matters. All for the WWP. I’m down with that.
btw, Grease – you must have enjoyed the posts today with all the 3rd person conversing going on. Kev-1 is bummed he missed out on that.
2011??? *yawn
different personnel on the line, different system that passed WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more, of course receiving totals should be decent.
we know guys can play. but the key is can they understand and play in a new system. you cannot have one guy playing the old way and 10 others playing the new way.
you don’t need to be the best, what you need to be is the best fit.
Moocher..
Both Rolo and Moniz have gone on to the “next” level. Both play or played in the Arena Football League… Rolo was quite successful and Moniz is enjoying some success and increasing popularity with the Georgia Force. It may not be the NFL, but it may be a stepping stone, too.
There are new traditions in Warrior Football: “The Warrior Walk” into Aloha Stadium and the new entrance onto the field.
It’s Homecoming week and want to be sure we let all Warriors, past, present and future know how much we appreciate them ‘leaving it all on the field’ for Hawai’i each time the step on the field of play no matter the sport.
Just as a comparison to our Warrior fans, here is the ‘love’ the Ohio State Band gets when they take the field just for pregame:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvwABhIm_eE&feature=fvst
why shroeder….wrong again.
they drafted rg3 and he WAS given a chance in a new system and did well…not to mention they spent money for him. if he didn’t work out, trade him. it was a no lose situation for them…hello???
what part of graves WAS given his chance in a new system and it did not work out do you not understand?
just like colt brennan WAS given numerous chances and did not succeed?
the point is they all had their chances in a new system, some made it work some didn’t.
By the way: If you speak or write about yourself in the third person writing in the third person, is that the sixth or ninth person?
I’m not sure about other people’s arguments, but my reasoning for putting Graves in is not because he’s necessarily a better QB than Schroeder, but because of mobility. If the oline is struggling, mobility has to be a benefit, right? I don’t think it is insulting to Schroeder to say that. Heck, even Coach Chow said it. If we can fix the oline woes and Schroeder has more time, then great. But if the battering continues, then adjustments towards mobility need to be made. Pretty sure Shutter is mobile too.
MIH…
stepping stone i agree. of course i wish the best for all.
my point was we had a system that made pretty much an quarterback look good…and we got used to that.
the current system will not make any quarterback look good. and sadly, shroeder is unfairly getting blasted for things that are beyond his control.
So what are you saying Moocher? Since we’re not scoring and the defense is so porous. All the players should hang up their cleats? Obviously by your standards, none of them are working out.
Heh. Mass email rules ;). Still early, though, for 3rd party party, so, get thee to it!!!
The heck ARE you all day, kev-1? With your permission, a Grease would like to do a Dr. Lecter-class profile of thee?
A Grease would say . . . beyond the third person . . . phone a friend, bwahahaha. Um.
Moocher, I get what you are saying about the RnS making the QB look better. It is the classic draft analyst argument against system QBs. In the type of offense we have now, if the QB looks really good, it is because he probably is.
However, I still think that some of our QB’s from the old “system” were actually pretty good. Why they didn’t succeed at the next level could be attributed to many different reasons.
Grease . . . kinda scaring me with the Dr. Lecter reference there . . . haha. I was actually with my kids today.
Moocher…
I think everyone is simply frustrated… they just want to see something different attempted instead of banging one’s head on the wall the same way over and over and over again.
We didn’t have a proper funeral for the RnS… For many of the fans, like myself, that enjoyed the RnS and saw it as part of our Branding, along with the “H”, we’re still in the withdrawal stages, moaning and bemoaning…”Oh no..” . For others, who thought the RnS should go the way of dinosaurs, they still don’t get to gloat and say.. “I told you so.” So they must be equally frustrated.
For still others who wanted, Koetter, Anae, Rush or one of the other coaches, I can’t imagine their frustrations….
It’s going to be a long season.
On Scout, some are going as far to say that Schroeder agreed to come to Hawaii only if he would get to play this first year.
We don’t get the breakdowns as to why plays didn’t work.. or did work like seasons past and, I for one, feel left in the dark.
There are simply too many changes and it’s hard for me, at least, to wrap my mind around it all.
#311
i’d buy the mobility to a point.
and i say to a point because there were a lot of times shroeder slid outside of the pocket, stepped up, rolled out and made passes at the last microsecond before getting nailed.
let us not forget…chow brought in shroeder because shroeder knew the system…key word “knew the system.” if another quarterback knew the system, i’m sure chow wold love and utilize the added dimension of a quarterback who knows the system and can run.
🙂
318 . . . agree
Funny but I thought I heard Coach Chow say either in his weekly press conference or insider interview that we didn’t have a mobile QB so we can’t run those type of plays. The way he said it sounded like none of the backups counted.
mih . . . I heard him say that in reference to Schroeder. He doesn’t even seem to consider back ups at all. Then again, he has stated again and again that SS is his guy. It may be a psychological thing to protect Schroeder’s confidence, by not mentioning potential back ups.
JAMES KALILI GRADUATED FROM KALANI H.S.. HE COULD PULL FROM HIS GUARD POSITION, BLOW OUT THE DE, OR OLB, THEN GO DOWNFIELD TO BURY ANUDDA DEFENDER, WHO EVER WAS INDA WAY OF THE RUNNING PLAY. ASK LARRY PRICE.

I blame the humidity on all our losses. Oh i am so mad I want to only watch Oregon and Washigton football because they play good football with the football in football games.
Oh i am so mad and obsessed.
So, until Coach Chow starts winning and puts the doubt of all the people who were in favor of some other coach to rest… I think the boards will remain restless… Accept it.. live with it. In the ends we are all fans….fanatics.. tsaikotic…

James Kalili from Kalani?
LTUHF is turning over in his grave!
Express . . . release. Remain calm and positive, Kevin. Call in, take a day (well, if you got personal leave hours available, of course).
This vog and humidity, we cannot control, just have water by your side at all times, know we’re all in the same vog and humidity-filled, uh, boat.
Post here. You maintain class whenever you post, Kevin, you do, certainly, so, share, we all here. We all have a degree of ambiguity while we still very much support these Warriors. Stay the course. Believe in the team. Do what you have to do in your life. Stay positive. Things will fall into place.
Stay :D.
Da clueless wahine bids everyone oyasumina-tsai.
Jim Kalili. Early 70s intramural basketball. 6-2, 235LB Jim on a 2-1 fast break with Glenn Hookano. Only defender 5-5, 140 lbs standing just below the free throw line. GH has the ball passes to Jim around the FT line, defender steps in front of Jim and sees his life flash before him.
I was expecting a huge collision. Lucky for me, Jim was agile. Caught the pass took a quick step to his left and passed to ball back to GH for a layup. To this day, there’s a controversy about retelling that play. Some claim I had my eyes closed as tight as Scrooge’s ass others claim my eyes were so wide openned they thought they almost popped out of their sockets.
Believe Jim graduated from Farrington.
Kevin…
I was for Norwood too.
I felt UH needed a young hungry guy who both played for the green and white and coached in a BCS conference. His wife is Tiffany Hardy, sister of Damien Hardy (UH men’s volleyball) and already having ties in the islands to me made him a stronger candidate.
I felt Norwood because of local ties and mainland ties, including texas, would get quality players in.
Anyway, chow it is. i love the work ethic, the discipline he brings. my concern is the losses make it hard to stick with the buy-in for the players.
we all know defenses gel faster then offenses. the defense hasn’t and to me that is the bigger of the problem. for my tastes, losing 50-0 is really on the defense. losing 3-0 is on the offense. yet we are consistently blaming the offense for the blowouts because once upon a time we HAD an offense that was our defense…and i think many are stuck in that mindset where our offense used to be our defense.
i look at it from this perspective.
we average what 20 pts a game ( i know… lamar) and give up what 44? if the offense averages 20 and the defense can stop half the points it is giving up we are right about even (20-22 score) and have a good chance to pull out some wins.
shroeder is not the problem. not being as mobile is not the problem. the D needs to take a baby step and a goal of no more then 3 touchdowns. They do that, and we’ll be in every game the rest of the season.
Uh 27 New Mexico 24
Imua Warriors!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go get’m boys!!!
I too am more concerned with the defensive struggle. But consistent 3 and outs will take its toll on any defense.

Although Wes’side spent about 4 years at Fort Ord, and had experiences up and down the California Coast, Wes’side never stopped in Capitola, on his way to the Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, or when heading up to Half Moon Bay, or San Francisco. So, Wes’side can’t really comment much on Capitola. Similarly, Moss Landing was left out… as a quick stop over for a bite to eat was a less than memorable experience. However, Cannery Row in Monterey was always fun! So was that clothing-optional beach down in Big Sur, which is why Big Sur made Wes’side’s list! Hahaha!

whoa, moocher. picking the home team. nice.
i can’t pick our team until i see enough scheme-wise from our DC.
Watched the replay…can not kick ball out of bounds…..can not fumble….can not drop passes….can not arm tackle….can not make silly mistakes and infractions. The effort was there and this was just a series of self-inflicted wounds. Hopefully we get a few guys back, Iosefa for one and some D Line personnel that would allow Yap….Woodard and Falemalu a chance to do more damage. A lot of times these guys are trying to make play behind the line and get caught in bad angles….nothing wrong with letting them get to the line or a few yards. These kids played like Warriors and they will get these things taken care of….I think get this one this week will put them in place to win 4 or 5.
the effort from our boyz are there, they play like Warriors, every game no matter what the score, no question. they ARE Warriors.
it’s our defensive schemes i question. SDSU coaches designed plays just for their QB because we didn’t have him covered. We all saw the results, and no D adjustments on our part.
NM runs the Pistol, with not much of a passing threat, i want to see how we scheme against their O. we have had problems with read/option offenses, this one should be interesting.
Their QB is not the runner like BYU’s Tayson Hill, Nevada’s Farjardo or SDSU’s Katz, but we have made those guys look way better than they are, and i hope we don’t do the same for NM’s QB. of course, IMO
sawarrior
got to. i’m not happy with what’s going on. but i do believe that if the D can show up and the O keeps plugging away the W will come.
our offense cannot be our defense as in years past. D needs to show up.
i hate to think of what past scores would have/ could have been without edwards and ne’quan. with strong db’s, it’s natural now that teams will run more and more and more against a weaker d-line and linebackers.
I am planning to uncover all the for the internet online neighborhood due to the fact will. Will be able to someone recommend preferred blog sites, facebook takes care of, and also internet sites that you just acquire clearest? The ones that can be more popular? With thanks!.
Agree with #306, Our OL are not in sync as a group. The boyz from last year is tight group even off the field. They would go hiking, beach bbq and bond together I even herd T Grahm would join them. Springball should have been the main focus on working with them to really understand the system . But sloting transfer guys in after the spring because they have experience? If they didn’t play in this offense their brining in then why are our boy (from last year) different from the transfers? Favoritism maybe. Read interesting blog on “SPORTS HAWAII” with heading “……..garbage”.

A-TEAM, im pretty sure youre Tamaole Paka, you guys always post the same stuff. it seems like ure related to someone, but i wont mention the name since i dont wanna reveal ur identity. the info u post is always welcomed and i like reading it.
for those interested, this is what TamaolePaka posted:
“Sources say Sai left because he wasn’t going to start and was not good enough to start. He was Chow’a boy in Utah. The boys in Utah were laughing when they saw him as a starter vs USC and still can’t believe UH has him as a starter. Also reliable sources say OL coach is not seeing eye to eye with some of the OL players. Plays favorites and threatening players to transfer out. I think he is trying. to make room for his new recruits. My Questions is Why is he doing this if we are so thin on the OL. Good thing these transfer players improved our OL/ NOT! Is this the same coach that was with coach Chow @ UCLA?”
duffer wishes everyone a GOOD MORNING!
If I recall, last year’s o-line had problems blocking for Moniz. Maybe the “pundits” will say it was Moniz’s fault for whatever transgression but it was not head and shoulders better than the new folks. The new folks have their problems and it is obvious, but we’re talking different stance, different schemes, different philosophy (run first). Tough to compare.
Like someone mentioned, when things don’t meet expectations, negativity reigns. Such is the new way.
#348, UH would be ranked 28th in 1AAA football….
Great Morning All!

Chow is the HC and also the Offensive Coordinator. He is on the field (sidelines) during the game.
At one time he said that being on the sidelines is the worst seat in the house. Is there anyone up in the box relaying how the plays are going?
350. i said something similar on post 269.

sometimes a new HC likes to play “their” guys, players THEY brought in. coaches made no promises/commitments to players/families that another HC brought in.
O . . . ohayoooooooooogoZaimasu!!!!!
Wh . . .
When Chow first came, he had not made a decision about using more of our receivers and running the types of routes they ran, which would help the Quarterbacks and help Graves and Shutter especially– we know because he said we had talented receivers and he would try to use them and maybe run some of the run and shoot routes– which sounded good especially since he had chosen Graves as the starter then.
But he changed his mind and went with a ball control, run first strategy and ended up not using Graves and made limited use of our receivers, including not running the patterns they are so good at.
He is now sticking with his decision, but common sense tells me that if Chow could do it over, Chow would go with his first choice of using the receivers more and some of the running plays that got Alex Green into the NFL. That would also have used Graves skills and given time to gradually introduce his system with Graves or Schroeder.
