Aaron Price no longer with UH

Norm Chow announced this morning that offensive coordinator Aaron Price is no longer with the team.

Price did not resign nor was he fired, meaning  his one-year contract — which runs through March — apparently remains in place. He earns about $118,000 annually.

UH is not seeking to hire a replacement.

Price joined the staff in February after nine years at UTEP, where his father Mike Price was head coach through his retirement in December 2012. There were indications that Price and the Rainbow Warriors were not an ideal match. This past month, Chow confirmed he would continue as the play-caller on offense, with Price and graduate assistant Jordan Wynn expected to assist in crafting game plans.

Chow declined to explain why the parting was reached. But people familiar with the situation said personal and family concerns were factors. The parting did not have to do with job description or roles.

Chow will serve as offensive coordinator. Wynn and Luke Matthews will have expanded roles with the offense. During today’s practice, Chow and Matthews worked with the receivers, a position Price was expected to coach.

  6. Bryson August 2, 2013 10:51 am

I wonder if Norm Chow wasn’t willing to open up the playbook for Aaron Price…Seems like with Norm Chow on field serving as the OC we may see the same of what we saw last season…being a career OC spending most of his time in the booth upstairs allowed him to see the whole field and all the mismatches…being at field level he doesn’t have that advantage…

  8. Old School Dave August 2, 2013 10:51 am

Will Jordan Wynn be promoted to a full-time coach to fill the void?

Unfortunate development and an unwelcome distraction. Need to stay focused.

On the other hand, June Jones (love him or hate him) was his own OC.

    Hard to argue with yourself.

You’ve got to be kidding me! That doesn’t sit well w/ me, I thought one of a couple great decision coach Chow made in the off season. Its the first day of camp! I think I’m feeling really sick right now.

  27. 808WarriorFan August 2, 2013 11:30 am

I agree w/ “Jeezy33″…..we deserve to know what happened. I can say that now because for the first time since 1983 I am a season ticket holder

    Let the speculation begin!

  29. dream city mike August 2, 2013 11:35 am

Timeline from the luncheon at the Pagoda, coach’s interview at KHET and all the interaction w/ players the past couple of days. Mr. Tsai did you or anyone notice any red flags between the two?

  30. Lowtone123 August 2, 2013 11:35 am

Seems a lot more than odd that he left so abruptly. No signs, no warning nothing. Come on ST, give us the scoops!

  31. haka August 2, 2013 11:39 am

If there was an issue of any kind that might eventually rear it’s head, it is best to split now, at the beginning of camp.

  32. JJlvogel August 2, 2013 11:39 am

What! What is wrong with you Coach Chow! There goes another season. I think Coach Chow found someone who knows more than him and hes afraid to lose his seat. Wants to be the OC head Coach, Janitor, Dean and basketball Coach. This was actually a great decision he made by picking up an OC with some experience. Coach Price very commited dont think he would up and leave. I guess this will be Coach Chows last season. We thought we had it together I guess we were wrong!

  33. Tolkien Warrior August 2, 2013 11:40 am

I thought it was a weird fit style-wise. Such is life. Try, no work, move on. I respect the decision.

Im pissed as a season ticket holder that Coach Chow would make such a bad decision close to the season…this is why I bought them this year thinking this year would be different. I think you should know that as a head coach if its a wierd fit or not before you hire someone.

  37. PolyMom August 2, 2013 11:50 am

    Maybe it’s for the best.

  38. Independent Thinker August 2, 2013 11:56 am

  39. Bryson August 2, 2013 11:56 am

    Maybe Price got a DUI…lol

  40. Richfromoc August 2, 2013 11:57 am

  41. Rodney August 2, 2013 11:57 am

    Lets move on.!

    In Chow I trust!

    I’m sure it was best

    for the team!

  42. dream city mike August 2, 2013 12:01 pm

I actually believed that AP would be an extension for coach on the field. He had experience in the booth from recognizing defensive tendencies to play selection. His youth coupled with coach’s experience would’ve been complimentary. Where’s Rolo?

  43. JJlvogel August 2, 2013 12:04 pm

it would be in the news if he got a DUI..

  44. JJlvogel August 2, 2013 12:08 pm

“Sometimes it doesn’t work out. You should see how many people we let go before their probation expires because they were not a right fit.”

You really think that looks good for the school???? Then we will never get a coach that wants to come here, if all he does is let them go. These guys put a lot on the line from moving their families. I would never take a job where I was given the position from a Coach like Coach Chow where there is uncertainity or no stability especially with a family and lose all other offers to be let go before probation period. Unbeilevable!

  45. jkjones August 2, 2013 12:10 pm

Nothing has changed. The bottom line is the bottom line–Chow must win, with or without Aaron Price. The buck stops at his office.

  52. jkjones August 2, 2013 12:23 pm

Of all the positions that could be sparred this close to training camp, perhaps OC was the most expendable given Coach Chow’s background. Naturally, given a more specific and demanding responsibility, this means Coach Chow will have little time to micromanage Defense and Special teams and will need to trust in the coaches he delegated with those responsibilities. SMU’s June Jones and Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson are among a few who do it….we shall see…best wishes to our Warriors to have a great camp.

  53. dream city mike August 2, 2013 12:23 pm

  63. Bigislandkurt August 2, 2013 12:43 pm

Like a horribly called fake punt, or an unsportsmanlike penalty after a big play, UH’s bad timing once again rears its ugly head.

Lose the OC on the first day of fall camp????? Whut da hell??/

    Oh my.

I’d like to believe we’ll be better this year. But stuff like this to start the year is not what the docta ordered. SMH.

(did anyone get Price’s side of the story?)

    BIK

  64. Leahi2 August 2, 2013 12:47 pm

You guys remember OC Tommy Lee, formerly a good friend of Chow? Well he left after only one season citing the need to “spend more time with his family”. In the beginning he was very happy to come home to coach our team. However he seemed to be unusually quiet as the season progressed. Now AP leaves quite abruptly. I’m surprised it wasn’t DC Kaumeyer. After all Chow wants the biggest and best linemen to play Offense. I heard an old saying that too many cooks in the Kitchen spoils the soup and this doesn’t say anything about in-fighting! Or about the menu for that matter.

  65. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 12:49 pm

Price leaving now makes me sick!!! Chow needed to delegate some duties and focus on HC duties. The hiring of Price gave me hope that another dimension to our offense would added this year. Don’t know about you but I thought our offense was boring and predictable. No improvement week to week which also added to my agony.

I have to admit I began to like what was happening to our team and started to drink the kool-aid. After today, I threw up and the kool-aid is out of my system and truly concerned that this years team will be a continuation of last year.

Coach Chow, Please prove me wrong…

  66. Kapahulu August 2, 2013 12:49 pm

So now does this mean that Chow might move up to the Booth to read the Defense and call the plays? That is what Aaron Price was supposed to do.

  67. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 12:50 pm

Anyone know if the L&L show is on demand and what channel to access it? Thanks!

  68. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 12:53 pm

Promote a “interim OC” for the time being from within, then fill that newly vacant position with an interim assistant like Mr. Noga. 🙂

  69. Gumby August 2, 2013 12:57 pm

It may have come down to control and play calling. Aaron Price probably wanted more than to be the guy to run practice without the chance to develop the fruits of his labor in real game situations. That is totally understandable. The whole Head Coach-Offensive Coordinator relationship seemed a little strange and stilted. However, if we are all honest with ourselves, Aaron Price is a good guy but not a great offensive coordinator (based on pre-UH performance). Although Price did a lot of good for the Rainbow Warriors while he was here, there was something about the hire that did not “seem” right–like it was a forced fit. I guess it is better to deal with this now than midseason. If anything, the criticism on Chow in this situation should be directed more to his hiring of Price. At this point in time, Chow should begin looking at bringing Nick Rolovich back at the end of the 2013 season.

  80. dream city mike August 2, 2013 1:15 pm

Coach Chow did not need a great OC, whose duties and responsiblities should of been ironed out during the interview and a few weeks after hire. He would of left earlier if it pertain to that, however its merely speculation at this point. Where are you Rolo?

  81. 808bowler August 2, 2013 1:20 pm

So far a great camp for Greg Salas. With Maclin injury, cooper issues his time to shine. Been following him and he is having a great training camp.

  82. Inyoface August 2, 2013 1:20 pm

We’ll be fine. Chow has the players he needs to make a run.

  83. Steve P August 2, 2013 1:20 pm

Well its a little early to start predicting the demise of the UH football season, but losing your OC the first day of fall practice does’nt bode well. If this is a period where team unity desperately needs to be established, so to get everyone on the same page, its not a good sign. On the other hand, if the late OC was a source of disunity in the office, then the team and staff is better off without that….much better. The glass is either half-empty or half-full, depending on who views it.

  84. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 1:21 pm

Just a couple of thoughts, for whatever they are worth about this issue through the lens of management style. “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things”. It this begs the Q, whats that’s the difference between managers and leaders, what is the difference between leaders and bosses? It has a lot to do with attitude and style, but skill is also an issue. But, in a nutshell, bosses push people; leaders pull them.

Going back to my rope analogy–folks are very similar to rope. If you have one or two people to manage, you can probably boss them around without too much difficulty. And if your rope is very short, you can push one end of it and have a pretty good chance of getting the other end to go where you want it. But as the rope gets longer, it takes more time and effort to get the front end to go where you want it to go if you are pushing from the back end. The same is true when you have more people to manage – pushing becomes a bad idea. Pushing a long rope, or managing anything but the smallest team, has unintended results. The rope bends and buckles as you push it and people go in different directions instead of working together.

Long story short…this is not consensus building or even linear decision making, its Chow’s program, and the best you can expect is some benevolence in his football dictatorship. But, then again just my own 2 cents…

  85. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 1:22 pm

    Go Rainbow Warriors!

  92. Brad August 2, 2013 1:38 pm

I thought it was going to be perfect for Chow. Price was going to be on the field calling the plays that Chow is whispering in his ears from the press box. Making Chow comfortable where he belongs up top to see the defense and make Price feel like a head coach to give him field experience to be HC. Now it’s all ruined! Ruined! Sorry Friday’s get me delirious.

Hey as long as he doesn’t go to one of Hawai’i opponents on the schedule then it shouldn’t matter if he’s gone.

Chow and all the other coaches collaborate the game plan for each game. It’s not a one man show. Chow just make the ultimate call come game time if anything in the game plan changes.

  93. oldtimer808 August 2, 2013 1:41 pm

#37 You really contradict yourself as a new season ticket holder and then later stating that you know about coaching issues since you are a high school coach. So why get pissed off when you really don’t know the facts and if you are coaching than you would know how difficult it is to be a coach making difficult decisions. What ever transpired is between Coach Chow and his coaching staff and Coach Price. And for everyone who is getting on Coach Chow, I recall Coach Jones getting a ton of negative comments during his second year of coaching during his losing season. If you are a true UH supporter than support the student/athletes who work their butts off to get better and excell in the classroom. I heard guys calling in after a game to Bobby Curan getting bent out of shape and actually cracking me up with their childish fits of anger. I feel for the student/athletes because unfortunately these hard working individuals have to listen to all this negative kukai from the public and from their immediate family and relatives. Life goes on and this is another season and I’m glad that Flossie passed us so we should feel blessed to be living in a great place. If the weather has been too hot and too humid go to places close to the equator now that’s hot and humid. GO RAINBOW WARRIORS YOU CAN BEAT USC JUST LIKE 1988 WHEN WE BEAT IOWA IN THE FIRST GAME OF THAT SEASON.

Bad timing. More fuel to the fire for the already disgruntled. Hope their rising level of negativity doesn’t affect ticket sales.

I do wonder if Chow addressed the team on what went down. Just hope he didn’t leave them hanging to speculate, like the rest of us, as to what happened. Now is the time for them to be focused. This incident and dormgate is all the distractions they need already.

    #94 Brad,

Where did you read that Price was to be on the field while Chiw was going to be whispering I his ear from upstairs? I never read or heard anyone else but you say that. IMHO, it would have never happened because Chow would not buck convention by going upstairs to call plays, even if it would be better for him to do so.

What is dormgate? If you mean that the team has to live in the dance studios then its a non-event. They’ve been doing that since the JJ era. The boys staying on the military base also goes back to the JJ era with positive results in team building.

Give the coach some Google glass and set up a video feed from the OC desk.

  108. Darren August 2, 2013 2:25 pm

    Distractions…what distractions??

So…how was the 1st day of practice? Haynes’s shoulder ok? How’d Ewaliko look running with the 1’s? Were Ewaliko and Harding alternating with the 1’s in the slot?

  109. Brad August 2, 2013 2:27 pm

I didn’t read it anywhere. I said “I thought” and actually was making fun of both Price and Chow. Just like when Joe Pa’s son Jay was down on the field making like he was the HC while his dad was up watching. I know it would never have happened unless Coach Chow decides he doesn’t want to suffer in the low teen temps when they go to Logan,Annapolis,&Laramie.

  110. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 2:28 pm

As long as Chow and JJ was/are here, the OC position is only a title to give an assistant more $$$$. Both of these coaches will never give up play calling. The only different is that JJ was better at doing it from field level. Chow said it was a struggle for him last year and I don’t see it changing this year.

Fans have asked Chow directly why he doesn’t just go upstairs to call plays and he says its just not done this way. Also, he has HC duties and needs to be in the field.

Lets see if he continues to pound on his players went they come off the field this year. That is one of my biggest complaints from last year. He pounds on them, walks away and comes back to pound in them somemore. Very interesting to watch him on the sidelines.

  111. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 2:30 pm

OC calls the play, players execute the play. Simple.

  112. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 2:31 pm

    Thanks for the clarification Brad.

  113. mo808 August 2, 2013 2:31 pm

    😳 Oops @58

BEAT USC! Not BEAT US !

    (Feeling traumatized today I guess)

  114. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 2:33 pm

    Jimmy,

Guess you weren’t here during Mack’s era. OC calls play, Mack calls it off. Total confusion as the players wait for the play to run.

  115. SteveM August 2, 2013 2:33 pm

Well, whatever Coach Price’s reason for parting with the team…BTW, good luck to him in his future endeavors!

it is difficult to measure his loss when the team has not yet played one down in a real game under his guidance. I am more curious who Coach Chow will choose as the next OC, and what he brings to the field.

  116. wafan August 2, 2013 2:34 pm

Thanks for the explanation, Mr. Tsai.

  117. 808bowler August 2, 2013 2:38 pm

Could any of the Lee brothers help? They got some experience.

  118. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 2:40 pm

Warrior Dave, In a roundabout way, that’s what I meant. Since Chow is the OC, he calls the play, offense just do it. No head butting.

  119. haka August 2, 2013 2:40 pm

    #105

yeah I have a familiar thought.

  120. d1shima August 2, 2013 2:40 pm

The OC wasn’t expected to score a single TD this season.

OTOH, BRS was heading into his Senior season with some big expectations.

    Any update on his tests/status?

  121. haka August 2, 2013 2:41 pm

    104 now…

  122. HGMom August 2, 2013 2:41 pm

I will say this much, Coach Chow wants to do it all himself and doesnot want to hand over any duties or the playbook to anyone, Hes a control Freak no news to anyone and its before long before someone else on his staff leaves. He just doesnt want change…He has duties himself and should let the OC be the OC if thats what he hired him for! Another Bad year Chow needs to go.

  123. d1shima August 2, 2013 2:42 pm

Lee Brothers are busy getting ready to play Iolani

  124. gobows August 2, 2013 2:43 pm

what exactly is the football team “losing” with the dismissal of price?

if the o-line struggles…it’s not going to matter much

imagine what jj could do with these players

  125. haka August 2, 2013 2:44 pm

Yes, thanks ST for the update.

  126. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 2:47 pm

HGMom, what does the “HG” stand for? Home Grown, Home and Garden, Hand Grenade, Head Gasket, Hot Grandma, Heavy Glutes?

  127. dream city mike August 2, 2013 2:47 pm

Yes thanks for that ST. Wasn’t that what we were talking about las nite.?How we adapt to change? How we respond to adversity? In Chow we Chrust!

  128. chopsueyboy August 2, 2013 2:53 pm

    “@HawaiianAir: Come to #HAField #tweetup on Aug16 at @AlohaStadiumHI.

    Watch a @UHAthletics #RainborWarriors practice! RSVP – http://twtvite.com/HAField”

  129. dream city mike August 2, 2013 2:53 pm

jtl – Hot Gravy? Oh wait Heavy Grebles?

  130. haka August 2, 2013 2:57 pm

    jimmy, you forgot hen grease.

  131. Old School Dave August 2, 2013 3:01 pm

Warriors need to more on, with or without Aaron Price.

Very interested to see how freshmen such as John Wa’a (he may surprise many), Kennedy Tulimasealii, Keenan Ewaliko, Aofaga Wily, Marcus Kemp, Diocemy St. Juste, David Griffin, and others do this fall camp. Have a productive and relatively injury free camp!!

  132. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 3:03 pm

LOL, dcl, now I have a craving for roast pork gravy all over

haka, now you did it, the spam will start appearing.

  133. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 3:05 pm

oops, I meant dcm. Almost like the Delorean acronym.

  134. Rodney August 2, 2013 3:05 pm

Imua move forward! Ain’t know big loss!

If we loss the DC that would be huge!

Chow got 40 plus yrs coaching.

    It’s done lets support.

    Anyone at practice today?

    How did O-line look?

    How was the energy

    Recievers?

  135. dannyp August 2, 2013 3:07 pm

    125

At the very least we’re down a recruiter. Seeing as how we’re starving for talent thats a very significant blow.

  136. jimmy the lock August 2, 2013 3:10 pm

Let’s see. UTEP wasn’t starving for talent?

  137. dream city mike August 2, 2013 3:12 pm

Sorry that’s not nice on my part only trying to be funny! But it sure isn’t funny now that I’m reading it (#130 above)! Keep the faith! Of course if you started out w/o any…maybe you’re on wrong blog!(#123) FAITH that is!

  138. dannyp August 2, 2013 3:27 pm

    137

    Whats your point?

  139. dream city mike August 2, 2013 3:30 pm

CN, the o-line coach (one of coach Chow’s additions in the off season) will definitely bring an upgrade and show great improvement on offensive scheme! Honest, Garans… how dat jtl! (lol)

  140. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 3:43 pm

Anyways, did anyone go to practice today? How did the team look? Graham? O-line? RB’s? WR’s? I read Haynes hurt his shoulder but looked good before that… Let us guys that live far away know. (Without giving up too much of course)

    Thanks!

  141. dream city mike August 2, 2013 3:59 pm

Its kids week on JEOPARDY now and one of the young contestants hails from Alpharetta, Ga. Now why does that city sound familiar? Remember your answer must be in the form of a question! Heehee!

  142. Buffoman August 2, 2013 4:02 pm

True, it’s a loss. True, timing not good.

But, if there were problems, and he was not a good fit, the parting is best and best before the season starts. It appears that the other coaches are fine with the HC, as they are still here, have recruited well and from the outside seem to be a team.

    That’s important.

Maybe AP could have been a help with the knowledge that he could have imparted. That we will never know.

I think the most important additions were Coach Naeole and the GA from Utah who will work with the QBs.

It’s a tough schedule, they don’t need any more distractions.

  143. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:08 pm

    @142,

Who is the 2014 Freshman of the year DE on the BCS Bowl busting Hawaii Warriors team?

  144. Ran August 2, 2013 4:09 pm

bring Colt Brennan to help on the Warrior offense

  145. Slugger August 2, 2013 4:17 pm

So if they are paying AP through his contract period, March 1, no interim OC or replacement coach. It will be Coach Chow.

    Good luck, Warriors! Beat USC!

  146. haka August 2, 2013 4:19 pm

Kelly Majam Named Big West’s Nominee for NCAA Women of the Year Award!

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—University of Hawai’i softball player Kelly Majam has been selected as the Big West Conference’s nominee for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award. NCAA schools from all three of its divisions nominated 455 individuals for the prestigious national award which honors graduating female senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves during their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. Majam was one of a quarter of these nominees who was then selected as their conference’s representative….

  147. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:19 pm

    @147,

Are you the same person as HGMom? And about 20 other personalities on the blog?

  148. dream city mike August 2, 2013 4:20 pm

    Negative #144

  149. haka August 2, 2013 4:21 pm

Sorry if above was previously posted, but I was glad to see it.

  150. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 4:27 pm

With UH’s track record of, uh, parting with people, it’s probably less costly to bite the bullet on a contract. Lawyer fees, and all.

  151. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 4:28 pm

This didn’t have anything to do with who would call plays or job descriptions or what not. But I think personal and family issues pretty much cover this.

  152. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 4:28 pm

He wasn’t fired nor did he resign. He is neither here, nor there.

I shall seek the advice of a Zen monk for the answer to this head scratcher.

  153. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 4:31 pm

If an offensive coordinator is not with the program, but hasn’t actually left, has he called a play?

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

    Mu.

  154. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:33 pm

    Whoa,

Haka, my comment wasn’t meant at you. I think ST deleted the comment I was referring to.

  155. ChowIsPau August 2, 2013 4:34 pm

Why are other reporters saying chow dismissed him? This is weird.

After we fire chow, we’ll all look back on this as a warning sign. That and the 3 wins from last year! boo yah!

  156. Bigislandkurt August 2, 2013 4:35 pm

So did he get fired or did he leave on his own accord? That is a relevant question because it’s all over the national wire that Hawaii’s OC got fired today.

    BIK

  157. Last Call August 2, 2013 4:37 pm

He wanted to be Warrior not a Rainbow.

  158. kawika49 August 2, 2013 4:37 pm

Iwwwthm…As a Mongolian Budhist…Let me enlighten you…It’s not that the buggah nevah listen. It’s that he nevah hear.

    What’s done is done.

    C’est fini.

    All pau.

    Moving forward.

    The team is focused.

    Was the photographer?

    Hint hint

  160. kawika49 August 2, 2013 4:39 pm

    Being undermined…makes the mine collapse.

  161. haka August 2, 2013 4:40 pm

    WarriorNY no worries, we know.

The signature to whom you refer is all to familiar.

    As you can still see.

  162. ChowIsPau August 2, 2013 4:41 pm

Chow is done. He should just resign too. UH will be lucky to win 2 games next year.

  163. cavewarrior August 2, 2013 4:42 pm

Placed on Administrative Leave with pay. Nice. I want one too.

  164. Last Call August 2, 2013 4:42 pm

KMBG just said he was fired.

  165. Independent Thinker August 2, 2013 4:43 pm

We’ll see what happens for the rest of the season. Chow made his name as an offensive coordinator so maybe this won’t be such a big deal after all. Although there may be some danger that the overall intellectual and offensive philosophical culture may stagnate a little as a team without more fresh voices, much like the intellectual culture during the khmer rouge era stymied fresh voices in cambodia, I think overall, the team won’t be any more worse off without Aaron Price than with him.

  166. WarYours August 2, 2013 4:45 pm

    UH loves to waste $.

  167. PolyMom August 2, 2013 4:47 pm

People move forward. Let this negative talk stop. Who cares Price is gone. Sorry that happened but it’s over! As a team, fans and state everyone needs to move forward. Simple. It’s sports people. S**t happens. It happens on all teams. How about some positive energy and chit chat. Really it’s none of our business what happened. Really. We can all specualte but who knows it could be a private family matter. We dont know. If they wanted us to know, they would have given a reason. Anything in life can change in a minute.

Why not expend energy and concern over the homeless situation in the islands? I hate to say this but Honolulu is looking worst then Skid Row here in LA. You don’t see folks with tents sleeping all over the place like in Honolulu.

And Chow losing money in an investment is news? Wish your paper would have used that space for more important things like lack of mental Heath, race discrimination, low graduation rate from UH. There are much more important things to read about then Chow losing 500K in an investment.

  168. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 4:47 pm

Then again, it doesn’t take a terrific imagination to think what “personal and family” reasons for leaving without going really means.

Maybe we have to read between the not-so-pretty lines.

  169. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 4:48 pm

ST…on a unrelated football note: A high school senior earned a perfect score on a national college admissions exam to become the only student in Hawaii to ace the exam this year.

Gillian Miyuki Desmond of Roosevelt High School scored a perfect 36 on the ACT test. It’s a feat only 781 students out of more than 1.66 million achieved last year. Woohoo for the Roughriders…making alum like ST proud!! ST let me know if she needs a hookup for New Haven…..lol

  170. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 4:50 pm

And that shall be my final post about this subject.

    Is it Saturday yet?!

  171. PolyMom August 2, 2013 4:50 pm

Also MAZEL TOV to Kelly Majam!

  172. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:52 pm

    PolyMom…

    WELL SAID!!!

  173. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:54 pm

    Boola,

How’s it going Sir? I was post from a few days ago. Are you a Jets fan out here?

  174. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 4:56 pm

(That’s supposed to say “I was reading a post from a few days ago…”

  175. Hawaii Football, 1-11 this year. August 2, 2013 4:58 pm

polymom: becuase this is a football blog. not a blog about homeless people and “low graduation rates at UH.” Also, obviously there are other news items that are more “important” than chow losing $50k. for example, russia’s crackdown on lgbt people. I dont’ see why you think there isn’t space for both.

  176. iwonderwhytheyhateme August 2, 2013 5:00 pm

Any bets on Brandon Doman making a return as OC at school in the pacific next year?

  177. Pomai August 2, 2013 5:01 pm

boolakanaka and PolyMom. you guys are so right here we have two outstanding kids and all the fans want to talk about is this crap. How many UH student athletes have been nominated for Woman or Man of the Year but our own Kelly Majam Elms has been. Come on people talk about positive things.

  178. Steve P August 2, 2013 5:01 pm

ST wrote “Chow declined to explain why the parting was reached. But people familiar with the situation said personal and family concerns were factors. The parting did not have to do with job description or roles.”

That settles it as far as I’m concerned and certainly does not infer that the team or the program is some kind of difficulty.

  179. Hawaii Football, 1-11 this year. August 2, 2013 5:03 pm

pomai, because the blog entry is about the OC being fired and people are concerned about that. this particular entry isn’t about how great taylor graham could possibly be or what an awesome person kelly majam elms is.

  180. Inyoface August 2, 2013 5:04 pm

If there’s anyone who knows how to coach offense, it’s Chow.

  181. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:04 pm

WarriorNY, passively watching the Jets. Wish they had some Hawai’i connection to make it interesting. That said, if they don’t get into the playoffs, the entire team will be retrenched. Lesson to Coach Ryan; don’t fall in love with a pretty QB.

  182. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 5:06 pm

    Nope. He wasn’t fired.

    He didn’t resign, either.

It was agreed he wouldn’t be part of the program.

  183. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 5:08 pm

Pomai, PolyMom and the other 99 percent may post whatever they wish.

  184. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:11 pm

ST, yes and while that is true, the more crucial Q is who wanted him to leave more: the program or himself? In any event, gone is gone…..

  185. Inyoface August 2, 2013 5:12 pm

If this happened in the 80s, before the internet, none of us would’ve had a clue about this. Most of the general public would only know who the head coach was. At the end of the day, the head coach takes the credit, win or lose.

  186. Inyoface August 2, 2013 5:15 pm

Wait, can you take the credit for a loss? Haha

  187. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 5:16 pm

Boola… Well they have Mike Edwards… The reason I ask is cuz I have some preseason tix… If you’re interested in checking out a game let me know…

  188. ChowIsPau August 2, 2013 5:17 pm

How can UH afford to pay someone all that money when he won’t even live here for half of the year? Price is being paid not to show up for work.

  189. hightide August 2, 2013 5:20 pm

At the end of the season losses from football revenue will be 2 and a half to 3 million dollars. I hope the university can afford it. Last years games were almost to painful to watch; offense so predictable, defense always out of position.

6 million will be the loss after 2 years of this regime. I hope I’m wrong but i keep my eyes open

  190. wasabi August 2, 2013 5:20 pm

168 – obviously as a personal friend of the Chows having bought their grandbaby a gift and all, and your son being on the team, you would like people to move on without questioning anything Chow does. Fans however WANT to know, I want to know, what’s going on here?????

  191. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:20 pm

WarriorNY, such a gracious offer….but, probably can’t make it as my work schedule has me doing a bunch of travel, and if you read one of my previous post, I’m going back home in early September. Once school starts, I’ll have a much more open weekend schedule….plus, I might be able to score some tickets through my office for the regular season…both giants and jets. So, I’ll keep you posted. Oh, I have heard good things about edwards, might have a legit shot at making the roster.

  192. PurpleMaple August 2, 2013 5:21 pm

Distressing news. Just have to see how the season plays out. Hoping for the best.

  193. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:26 pm

WarriorNY..this is from a recent blog about the Jets: My pick for the biggest surprise to make the 53 man roster is Mike Edwards, DB Hawaii. Edwards has very fluid hips and good speed. He also has excellent acceleration that allows him to close on the ball quickly and make plays. I believe that Edwards has a strong chance of making the roster because of Rex’s propensity to load up on talented defensive backs and because Joe McKnight may end up being a camp casualty. This may seem irrelevant, but Edwards is a top notch return man and could fill the void left by McKnight. His versatile skill set could earn him a place on the roster if he’s cut and Rex doesn’t buck the trend of favoring cornerbacks.

  194. Old Diver August 2, 2013 5:30 pm

Until yesterday Price was Chow’s eyes in the booth, the guy who would modernize and expand the offense, a great fit, smart, gonna relieve Chow of some of his responsibilities on offense and bring experience to a coaching lacking in experience. Today, we don’t need him.

  195. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 5:31 pm

    Boola,

I have season tix (club seats) for the Jets for the whole season but I gave most of them away already to some business partners…

I agree about Edwards. He has a legit shot at making the roster. If he did I think he’d be the first undrafted free agent rookie since Rex Ryan was hired to make the team… I hope he makes it…

  196. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 5:34 pm

    @194…

That’s an awesome excerpt… I hope he makes the team. I went to NY Jets Rookie mini camp in May and I asked Rex Ryan what he thought of #43 Mike Edwards…. He just smiled and told me… “Steal”

  197. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:37 pm

Warrior–lets see if they get traction, and then we can pick a game of consequence to attend; it sounds like one way or the other, we will not have a problem getting tickets.

  198. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:39 pm

Warrior–damn Ryan is keep those lbs off, looking real good. Too bad, the current GM is keeping him on a short leash, and he seems too generic now…

  199. oneseason August 2, 2013 5:41 pm

I think it was just last week that the Sports Animals said Coach Chow felt the biggest thing he learned from last year was that he tried to do too much. Maybe something else will be offloaded from his plate. Hopefully this, and the fact the college players can suffer concussions without mentioning it to the coaches, are lessons that won’t be relearned this season. Go Bows!

  200. boolakanaka August 2, 2013 5:42 pm

My not so bold prediction, is that Greg Salas, makes the Eagles roster. He is doing great, and with the injury to Macklin, and now the extended absence of Riley (what not to call black folks) Cooper, he might even get into a starting rotation.

  201. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 5:46 pm

Good evening Tsaiko Nation, It has been a LONG time since I have had the opportunity to talk too you good folks of Hawaii Nei as personal issues in my life I had to deal with for the past years and my health became a MAJOR issue !

Through the last weeks I have had PHONE calls from friends and associates who here in Los Angeles were DETERMINE to find me and let me know that I was miss and love while being a way for so long sad and frustrated with all of life and how am I going to overcome health and financial STRESS !

Over the last 2 weeks I came across a Japanese pharmacist by chance who I did not know personally but some how when I approached her and spoke my health issues to her she gave me ALOHA LOVE to the terms of “glucosamine chondroitin” supplementary pills to help support and maintain structure of joints as her words “take this bottle FREE of charge and you will see and feel less discomfort as days go bye”.

Well good folks all I can say YIPPIDY DOO DA DAY ! as of the last month in July the discomfort in both my ankles have lessen and it was finally great to do a defensive slide in toilet position as my BACK allow me to bend with BEAUTIFUL range of motion.

All day today at work I stood outside enjoying the world once again able to walk and RUN with no hitch as even the field trip I took two days ago with my inner city children hiking the Santa Monica Mountains I hiked inclines and declines of hills, slopes and roads, short winded mine you but NO excruciating pain in my joints HALLELUJAH !

I’m still not out of the woods yet but it sure feels good to come back to life and FINALLY see life is too short to be DEPRESS about and IF you can open your eyes and see that there are people who know me, care for me and WILLING not to give up on you then it is saying a whole lot as the lack of confidence and shame I felt had to GO and let the beauty of FRIENDS come into your heart and get off your “kuliana with acceptance and appreciation.

Finally good folks of Tsaiko Nation I would like to APOLOGIZE to any of you out there that took my absence away from the TSAI MEISTER blog as it was none of you personally that I was angry or disappointed with it was “MY OWN ISSUES” I was dealing with and I lost all sight of “devine intervention” and his creation of “GODS PEOPLE” !

I am bless with Mrs. RainbowCliff who stood with me through it all as she has NEVER let me alone or got rid of me through my health and financial burdens but stood with me until I can overcome the obstacles and she SMILE with happiness that I told her I am going on the “WARRIOR BEAT” to check in on the OHANA in which it has surely been a long time.

I see we are back to “RAINBOW WARRIORS” and a new AD has taken over. Playing SC once again of all days my birthday the 29th of August. Scouting report here on SC is quiet at the moment as Kiffin has closed all his practices and his “KULIANA” is on the line which must be a WINNING season. Quaterback issue is the big problem for the men of Troy and a mental attitude can they be the same dominate program they once was as UCLA has taken the LA throne from them with a BIG spanking last year. SC alumnus, supporters and friends will be coming to Hawaii in bunches and groves EXPECTING a victory as sports radio announcers here just AUTOMATICALLY gives SC the win by passing the rainbow warriors.

Well don’t know what is going on with the team as I have been away and once again will entertain your thoughts as I know tsiako nation ALWAYS know what is going on with Hawaii athletics. Will catch up of what you folks have been writing as I see there are new bloggers and some good old ones that I met and know from previous posts.

Much LOVE and aloha to all of you as the RAINBOWCLIFF is BACK !

  202. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 5:47 pm

I hope he makes the team… Just hope he doesn’t kill my Giants…

  203. Old School Dave August 2, 2013 5:48 pm

People should be asking more questions why the UH Housing office was unwilling to work with the football team in order to allow them to sleep in the dorms which are largely empty. Hats off to the players for being the troopers they are having to sleep on cots for two weeks in the dance studios.

  204. WarriorNY August 2, 2013 5:49 pm

    Welcome Back RainbowCliff!

  205. Old School Dave August 2, 2013 5:56 pm

Bottom line is that we don’t know what happened and shouldn’t speculate. It’s not the end of the world. Don’t forget that June Jones did “OK” with an offensive staff made up primarily of high school (Dan Morrison, Ron Lee) and small college (Wes Suan and Mike Cavanaugh) coaches.

  206. d1shima August 2, 2013 5:56 pm

Aloha Rainbow Cliff! Good to have ya “back”.

    😉 😎 😆

  207. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 6:05 pm

Warrior NY and d1shima, what GLORIOUS names !

Mahalo for the welcome and happy faces. It has truly been a LONG time. Can you catch me up what is going on with the RAINBOW WARRIORS as reading previous posts Norm Chow is getting all the headlines ?

  208. WWF August 2, 2013 6:06 pm

Price did not resign nor was he fired, so he gets paid his $118,000 through next year? Really? I think we need to look at the guys who draft these contracts on behalf of the State. . .

  209. d1shima August 2, 2013 6:10 pm

Mark Carpenter just reported on BRS’ one-car accident on Wednesday. Missed opening day of camp. Complaining about head, neck (?) and left foot pain.

  210. oneseason August 2, 2013 6:16 pm

So … “This didn’t have anything to do with who would call plays or job descriptions or what not. But I think personal and family issues pretty much cover this.”

Fair enough. It’s a personal matter. Not related to the job. Coach Chow has a $550K salary. He leads the team. Why shouldn’t he and Coach Price personally cover the remaining portion of the $118,000.

  211. kawika49 August 2, 2013 6:29 pm

One season, If you recall; Chow took a haircut in order to give Asst. Coaches more money. Do you remember when our Head Coaches made more than 800K…It is out of Chows pocket, not UH…Enough already, he made sacrifices…and is willing to do it, in the spirit of proper order and improvement. So give it a rest.

  212. kawika49 August 2, 2013 6:35 pm

Oh and btw McMakin made 1.2 million

Chow gave up more than you can remember.

  213. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 6:39 pm

PolyMom, just lurking on the blog and I come across your insightful and thoughtful words. Always LOVE what you have to say as I have had the pleasure of your esteem company many times with the GREAT Pepe jovial laugh over looking the manhattan beach sky lines. It has been a LONG time as I always remember you calling me during that tough time I was going through as I truly LOST all facets of goodness and grace in which I was so despondent to you during that short conversation and for that I apologize to you. I was not myself and reading my previous post #202 I explain in detail what I was dealing with. Right now I am ok and getting better. Tonight is a big step of returning to a time in which I met many great folks of Hawaii and you kind lady are the “queen of queens” !

Mrs. Rainbowcliff is good as we always appreciate your kindness to us sharing the aloha spirit. Will definitely have to catch up on old and new times here in LA. ALWAYS a true wahine with grace, charm and dignity !

    Much Love !

  214. kawika49 August 2, 2013 6:40 pm

Oh and by the way, all the Boo Hoo Warriors, out there. No leader goes into a season, or battle; with the expectation of losing.

  215. obachan August 2, 2013 6:42 pm

In the Alice In Wonderland world of the Univ of HI can someone explain to me how someone doesn’t resign nor get fired and still receive his full salary? I’d love to live in that reality.

  216. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 6:44 pm

From what I understand, Chow hired Price initially because he wanted to focus more on the overall program rather than breaking down videos of opponents’ defenses all week. Chow was willing to give up the play-calling. But it became apparent during spring training, for whatever reason, there needed to be a change in the play-calling. Price wasn’t mad at relinquishing the duties. It just became clear that it just wasn’t working out. It also appears that Price has some personal and family issues that probably needs more attention.

It’s an expensive move in terms of opportunity costs. It’s not costing UH any more money — keep the lawyers out of this — but it’s the opportunity cost of not using money on somebody who actually works there. It’s sort of like medically retired players. The money is being spent on injured players who aren’t playing when it could be used on players who do play.

If this is addition by subtraction and it works, then it was the right move. If it doesn’t work, then this can be scrutinized. But at this late stage, it would be difficult to find an adequate replacement, anyway.

  217. Rodney August 2, 2013 6:45 pm

    #214 Amen.Im sure that’s not

the only sacrifice he has made.

    He’s a good man.We are lucky

    to have him.People remember

    who ever made this schedule

    didn’t do us any favor.

    Imua warriors!!!!

  218. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 6:47 pm

Being let go for cause would be difficult to prove, if it were true. I mean, you can’t fire somebody because it “wasn’t working out.”

  219. Kevin August 2, 2013 6:48 pm

Off the top of my head…

Recent UH student-athletes nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year:

    Tracie Uchima (softball)

    Kanoe Kamana’o (volleyball)

  220. Kevin August 2, 2013 6:50 pm

Oops forgot, just two years ago Emma Friesen (swimming) was a NCAA Woman of the Year nominee 2011.

Rainbow Wahine continuing to make noise quite often..

  221. obachan August 2, 2013 6:52 pm

#220 People are fired in the private sector all the time for their “not working out.” But I assume since this is the State we’re talking about – those common sense rules don’t apply.

  222. Kevin August 2, 2013 6:55 pm

Another UH student-athlete honored with the NCAA Woman of the Year nomination:

    -Aneli Cubi-Otineru (volleyball)

  223. Kevin August 2, 2013 6:58 pm

Its Friday night… perhaps some would benefit from interacting socially and in person with other people. 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

    Enjoy! 😆 😆 😆 😆

  224. lava August 2, 2013 6:59 pm

I’d like to be not part of the program any longer for $108,000, except I have a conscience and wouldn’t do that to the good people of Hawaii.

This program is feeling very Von Appen-ish.

Down one player or down one Coach. The same thing applies…

some one else steps up, takes their place and we fans get behind ’em. One snap and clear!

    GO WARRIORS!!!

  229. gobows August 2, 2013 7:08 pm

    204- old school dave

it sounded like the school wanted to “make” some money off of the football team.

dorm-the additional fee is because we have to wash the linen.

    team-oh, we’ll wash the linen.

dorm-you still have to pay the fee though.

    NoooooooBooooooody!

  233. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 7:19 pm

Papajoe2 and the punchbowl kid ! HOWZ IT KIND GENTLEMEN !

Two names of GREATNESS too the warriorbeat !

Man it has been a LONG time my good kama aina friends. Will give Mrs. Rainbowcliff your kudos. Both of you gentlemen I KNOW can fill me in on what is in store for this 2013 football season ?

Who is the quarterback, top notch receiver, Hows the “D” and can the Rainbow Warriors FINALLY beat USC?

    Always a PLEASURE !

  234. Ballpicker August 2, 2013 7:25 pm

God bless you RainbowCliff and its good to see that your feeling better.

DPK you da man! Oh, sorry texting out loud. You know what I mean.

All I’ll say about the OC situarion is that its a bad deal, but the show must go on.

    Go Rainbow Warriors.

  235. Manoa1 August 2, 2013 7:26 pm

Chow is a control freak he knew coach price was going to make him look bad if chow let him be the OC. Another terrible year watching chow and his terrible play calling.

another losing season for the Warriors.

  236. HawaiiMongoose August 2, 2013 7:33 pm

Okay, based on ST’s explanation I’m understanding the Price thing a little better.

It’s true that in the private sector, employees are let go all the time for “not working out”. That’s because the employment is at will, i.e. the employee has the right to resign at any time and the employer has the right to fire at any time.

However UH coaches aren’t at will employees, they are contractors, which is a whole different deal. They don’t have the option to just walk at any time and take a job with another employer. And by the same token, their employer doesn’t have the option to just fire them without some substantive cause as defined in the contract.

In this case, if we assume it would be difficult or impossible to prove that Price did something wrong that meets the substantive cause standard, Chow really doesn’t have the option of firing him.

I suppose the one thing I continue to question is the decision to not require any kind of work from Price through the remainder of his contract term. Isn’t there anything he’s qualified to do that could benefit the football program or the athletic department? Him getting paid to do nothing is what really rubs raw.

  237. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 7:40 pm

Ballpicker, MAHALO for your kind words. Did not know IF I could finally over come depression as it truly is a low sinking spirit. Through it all just typing to you GREAT folks of Tsaiko Nation I feel a sense of tranquility and good spirit like homemade therapy watching the sun set over diamond head or just sitting down and enjoying Hawaiian music of Olamana and the Cazemero Brothers !

    GIVE EM BRA !

Always the best to you and “THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREATNESS” !

This incident is of course not costing UH money salary wise. It is costing UH experience wise. Putting grad assistants in a position normally held by someone who has at least coached before is the real cost.

  247. oneseason August 2, 2013 8:06 pm

It doesn’t help that it breaks on the same day that it’s released that Coach Chow reportedly invested $500,000 in a scam … and not a very charitable sounding one at that …

“According to charging documents, the pair ran a company called Newport Financial Services and allegedly guaranteed investors an 18 percent return by purchasing contracts of furniture store customers who could not qualify for traditional financing options.”

Missing you much, my braddah! Haven’t seen or heard from you in ages!! Just awesome to see your posts right now. Brought back some good chicken skin memories!

  249. Steve P August 2, 2013 8:16 pm

Chow: ‘I know, why dont you leave?”

Price: “Good idea, why dont I?—wait maybe I’ll just leave today!”

    Chow: ‘Your not quiting?”

Price: ‘Oh, hell no. I’m just agreeing with your suggestion.”

Chow: ” Thats good, then you can just leave whenever.”

Price: ‘ Good idea. Shoot, why not today?’

Chow: “Great idea….than just get out.”

    Price: ” Ok, I’m outta here—-seeya Norm.”

    Chow: “Seeya.”

  250. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 8:21 pm

mo808, your words of welcome is taken to the heart. I recall your blog name many times and appreciate your positive thoughts. Wow there is a lot of NEW bloggers on this site and I am slowly getting a sense of their intellectual thought process. Very opinionated list of Rainbow Warrior fans as I just LOVE seeing that GREAT name back to all UH SPORTS !

    Once a bow ALWAYS a bow !

God bless my 1976-81 era as the rainbow is back again and shall ALWAYS be !

  251. Stephen Tsai August 2, 2013 8:30 pm

I think it would be difficult to let somebody go. At the same time, it would be a rare an honorable soul who would say: I’m not taking all this money for doing nothing. I can see a portion for moving expenses and getting back on his feet. But seven months seems a tad extreme.

  252. Steve P August 2, 2013 8:35 pm

I tell you what, it calls into question, not Coach Chow’s football I.Q., but his over all personal judgement of people—the same difficulty that Von Appen had when hiring. The fact is, not every OC has the qualities that go into making a good Head Coach….and Norm may have hit the ceiling and enacted the ‘peter principle’ here.

  253. RainbowCliff August 2, 2013 8:36 pm

    OH MY GOODNESS A-JOE !

Howz it great CAPTAIN of Tsaiko Nation !

Well Tsaiko Nation, it is after the midnight hour and I have had a JOYOUS time !

Thank you to all of my old poster friends and I look forward to meeting you new ones. Hawaii football is about to begin and we are all here because of the DESIRE and LOVE for Rainbow Athletics !

Being a former athlete from the golden era of the mid 70’s and early 80″s I have had the HONOR and PLEASURE of performing my athletic skills in front of you GREAT fans and I can say with out a doubt that you GREAT folks of Tsaiko Nation are TRULY unique and one of a kind as you continue the tradition of “LET’S GO BOWS” as I am just so HUMBLED to be of your acquaintance !

It is not you that THANK I but I that will ALWAYS THANK YOU !

Simply The Best, Better then All The Rest !

Have a good evening Tsaiko Nation and God Bless each and every one of you as I pray and continue to get better in my health, spirit and financial woes in which I realize in that friendship you are ALWAYS rich and this AWESOME site proves it everyday with all of you connected to one MAJOR common factor, your LOVE for the Rainbow Warriors !

Good night and THANK you for allowing me to write my words to you in which I am “SO HUMBLE TO BE IN YOUR PRESENCE”

    Vaya Con Dios “The RainbowCliff”

  259. kev-1 August 2, 2013 9:21 pm

Personal and family concerns can excuse you from fulfilling your contract and allow you to continue to be paid? That’s BS fed to the media. You can’t say that UH should just let him keep the money. If it is for no other reasons than personal, he is in breach. What the hell is wrong with our University that they allow people who no longer work for it continue to be paid by it? With the budgetary issues facing Mr. Jay, I can’t imagine he would be ok with Price being paid.

  260. Old Diver August 2, 2013 9:26 pm

Kev-1, at this point we only know the official reason Price is not on staff.

  261. Warrior Dave August 2, 2013 9:30 pm

    #253 ST,

Yes it would be a rare an honorable soul to say don’t pay me 7 months of salary.

However, if I was in Coach Price’s shoes, paid my own way for an interview and then moved my entire family over to Honolulu when offerred the job. Heck yes I would keep the next 7 months salary if my boss told me my services were no longer needed. I don’t know what happened after spring practice that would warrant a change in play calling. Was Price play calling that bad or did Norm just not agree with the plays? Either way it was a costly and disruptive decision that everyone must live with. Even with the 7 months pay for Price, there are no winners here.

  262. kev-1 August 2, 2013 9:36 pm

264 . . OD, yes. But it was reported above that his $118,000 remains in place. I know everything is pure speculation, but I just think it goes beyond personal and family issues. You don’t piss away that kind of money and just let someone walk away. Some want to believe that there is no more to the story. But I guarantee you that with the financial concerns facing the current program, the salary better be an issue.

  263. Old School Dave August 2, 2013 9:37 pm

Agree that the attention and focus needs to be on the 104 players who are out there busting their okoles.

  264. Bowwar August 2, 2013 9:43 pm

Great to see Rainbow Cliff back. Hang in there brother!

Chow can do what he like but if he going pay one coach for doing nothing and not tell me why, then I ain’t donating to Na Koa anymore. I don’t donate so he can give the money away.

And sorry but either the company lets you go, or you leave the company. There’s no other option.

    TV guys saying Price dismissed.

Who cares, but anyway you look at it, this is not good. Not good.

  275. Tak-Tak August 3, 2013 12:17 am

Rainbow Cliff, Welcome back!!!!!!! I’ve been a lurker for a number of years and noticed the decline in WB posting, but the day you start posting there’s been at least 277, most days less than 125 posts, no offense to ST, he is a tremendous leader and I respect him a lot!!!! And, so many more POSITIVE postings. I think WB will be more fun lurking again, for a while I have been just scanning. Tonight I found myself actually reading in more detail and enjoying it, Rainbow Cliff, You the Man, Aloha!!! Hope Garret will find time to post!!!!

Manoa Mist, thank you for your kind remarks. I recall your blog name so well as manoa valley will have that cool fog air from early morning to late at night and you come mystified with the IMAGINATION it creates as the valley and green acres just take your breath away with it’s enchantment of Hawaii Kings and Queens from early years of King Kamehameha and Queen Kapiolani.

LOVE manoa valley as the UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AT MANOA will remain the higher learning of educational wealth in which I had the privilege and honor of graduating as a scholarship student athlete !

Mahalo Manoa Mist for your EXQUISITE blog name !

Tak Tak, kind sir MAHALO for your kindness. I sent an e-mail to our “human sports wire” requesting his PRESENCE as I know with fellow tsaiko bloggers we all believe that Garret Okamoto is truly a TASIKO LEGEND !

Tak Tak, Garret will be back as he is truly a GENIUS of sport and I have had the pleasure of his wife and beautiful girls Faith and Mika on many occasions in which our human sport wire is truly a GREAT Father that I and Mrs. RainbowCliff witness the love he has for his two beautiful wahines.

In closing sir THANK YOU for your words of encouragement and the accolades you bestowed to me. Each day it’s get better but surely this time now typing too you GREAT folks of Tsaiko Nation I am just SO humble of this moment and appreciate the words you wrote to me.

Tak Tak ( wow what a blog name ) be well and keep the positive vibes you bring as it is contagious with old and new rainbow warrior fans wanting to “catch it”

    E komo mai !

My first reaction was that…..shoulda…..woulda…..coulda…..hired Ashley Lelie……and kept TD too.

Woulda coulda worked to develop these new long tall WR recruits (Barker, Haynes, Kemp, Kirkwood).

Woulda coulda also been….a great asset for recruiting…..both locally and on mainland…..as a former local HS product and walk-on….who earned a full scholie as the star go-to receiver…..going on to be picked in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft (19th overall selection)….and played 8 full seasons in the NFL mostly as a starter.
