McMackin: No decision on Tuioti
Greg McMackin said he not yet decided who will fill the job that essentially serves as a recruiting coordinator.
Tony Tuioti, who attended last night’s banquet, is a finalist and the leading candidate.
“He’s in the interview stage right now,” McMackin said. “I want to make it clear that no decision has been made. We’re going through the process.”
Tuioti today said he has not received an offer. “On Monday, I hope, they’ll have a final decision,” Tuioti said. “I’m optimistic, but there’s nothing yet.”
If Tuioti lands the job, his first priority would be to recruit Keenan Graham, one of the nation’s best defensive ends. Graham will be a senior at Silverado High in Las Vegas. Graham’s defensive coordinator? Tuioti.

Hawai‘i’s football stars were out last night, helping to launch UH’s series of football camps. The dinner raised more than $35,000.
Here’s Vince Manuwai of the Jacksonville Jaguars:

Defensive end Ikaika Alama-Francis will begin his second year with the Detroit Lions. Alama-Francis yesterday bought a condo in Hawai‘i Kai. He rents an apartment in Detroit — a clear indication that Hawai‘i is his real home.

Defensive end Melila Purcell III spent the past two weeks training and working with youths on Kaua‘i.

LeeAnn (Pestana) Satele and Alvis Satele are former star athletes and current proud parents of UH football players Brashton Satele and Liko Satele. Trivia: Alvis wanted to name Brashton “Cornelius” after former NFL player Cornelius Bennett. The suggestion was vetoed because it was feared kids would call him Corny.

Reunited … and it feels so good … reunited … Whoops, just had a disco-days flashback. Anyway, here’s a reunion of David “Happy” Gilmore, Nick Rolovich and Brian Smith. Trivia: For the past 14 days, Rolovich has been a pescetarian, losing 7 pounds.

For five years as UH student manager, Marissa Bonilla served many football roles. One of her duties was to be the seventh offensive player (the center) on 7-on-7 drills. She now is a teacher at her alma mater, Kaua‘i High. Initial reports are that enrollment there is increasing.

Lori Miano (posing next to some famous sportscaster whose name I can’t remember) gave birth on Sunday morning. Two days later, she was back running Hawaii Speed and Quickness.

Take that, People magazine. We’ve got the first photos of Siena Leolani Miano:

By the way, management still hasn’t acknowledged our party or the proclamation displayed on my desk. We’re having an in-house contest to see when they notice.
Looks like it was the party to be at last night.
Watch your diet ST. But have fun as you party on!
thanks for the pics
Hey, badspike, I think I’ve seen that before. Doesn’t it translate to: Read The Advertiser?
Fort!!!! Off to da beach wit Sweety, bbl!
St,
Great pictures! Thanks a lot.
The list of former Warriors in the NFL is getting very impressive. It shows that you can get there (NFL) from here (UH). If players being recruited by UH are concerned about the best path to the NFL, the former players are showing that NFL teams are aware of us way out here in the Pacific. Maybe more playing time at UH will be better than being on a big name school and sitting on the bench.
Woo Hoo!!!
Bee-you-tea-fuul!
ST ~ You party animal you!…Wena, shorten da leash.
Well, sorry, Liz, but I understand you now have to move over all of the videos.
Marissa is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! She should be a model in New York.
Leonard looked more handsome in Barry’s famous photo. Sorry.
And Mrs. Miano looks like a mere teenager.
oldie – thanks for your donation to the party!!
We all know that last night’s event was only the SECOND-best party of the year. I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, there were a few pro football players last night. But how many parties have an All-Star band, Bulla’s routine, Faye and Homey, and a ha‘a-dancing athletic director? Thought so.
just wondering but where does the $35K they raised go? To UH or Speed and Quickness?
Well, of course, Gigi prefers Barry’s photo of Leonard. He’s wearing clothes in my photo.
ha’a? I thought it was the haka.
UH, I believe.
yep, ST, and he really should shave off his goatee. Not a fan of facial hair.
Top 20!
Great Morning All.
nice pics
Oldie ~ You got that right! The NFL now takes a little longer detour thru the lower campus. Soon it’ll be upgraded from a frontage road to an entrance ramp.
You’re right, it’s the haka.
It was taken from a May Day program.
We almost had Heather McMackin with us, but she pulled a Mr. Gomes.
20th
ST – no forget the Ha’a dancing (??) sports writer
gee….marissa
new ‘do, but i never saw anyone hike their jeans up that high since the peewee herman movie.
looking good girl.
I think Al and DPK are so mesmerized by the Kaua‘i teacher they’re having difficulty counting.
actually mrs. miano sure looks gorgeous too. definitely a proud new mama.
If you notice, the photographer took the picture just as she came out of the bathroom.
Stretch, Not a problem. Just a normal (is there such a thing?) doing it for the love of this blog and the Warrior program.
Kekoa, The coaching staff should really emphasize that with the recruits. You can get there from here. In fact by staying home, they may play better since it will be in front of family and friends.
1st!
ST- no worry.
I am updating my blog with all the links so one need only click on my name.
Still converting and uploading… planny more to go!
Ronnie- no worries!!!
Whoops…Should be…normal Tsai-ko (is there such a thing?) doing…
I’m sorry. I’m distracted. I can’t get over the visual of DPK at the beach.
oldie – it was a very impressive set of discs. Very professional looking. I hope you come out to one of the events so I can meet you.
Gigi ~ How did you do it! How did you manage to keep hubby up past his bedtime? I look over at 8:05 PM and you 2 love birds are still in place!
I turned around at about 9:10 PM and saw David devour 5 chicken sticks with 5 more in his hand, before the caterer guy cleared the table. My grandson brush blocked the guy and managed to salvage a few sticks himself.
gee, the ad space on the right is getting wider and wider.
Siena is already a football girl!! Beautiful pic of mom and daughter!
Ryan Grice-Mullins was there, but he was zipping around, and I couldn’t get a picture. Next time I’ll wait outside the men’s room.
Stretch,
After reading about the great time everyone had at the party, my lurker friend, Dim Sum, and I have decided to make every effort to be there next year.
As for the DVDs, as I told ST, unfortunately I got better as the season went on. The first few DVDs have poor video quality, but I think a got it right in the end.
I found a copy of the KKEA audio for the 2006 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl so I put that with the video that I had. The second half performance by Colt makes that the game to have if you want to see Colt at his best. And he did it against an ASU team that had fairly good defensive stats.
Stephen,
Are all or most of these former players helping out with the keiki this morning at the camp itself?
oldie – there are more events set up during the year. No need wait until the next anniversary party.
Yeah, but how come she was coming out of the men’s bathroom?
Joking, joking, joking. Mr. Purcell, please don’t kill me.
What were they thinking …
Robert: Ooh, picture time!
Lori: Rich, please tackle Refrigerator Robert for me. Please. PLEASE. 😉
Mac Users’ video note- sorry for the odd format. I had to reformat the videos for PSP and iPod in order to get the filesizes down to less than 100MB.
KEKOA DrDoc has spent the last 20 years working as the head of a trust division at a bank, as CFO for one of the largest private social service agencies in the state, and as treasurer for other non-profits large & small. He’s served on over a dozen boards. All of the organizations have used a variety of ways to raise money ranging from writing government & foundation grants to being entrepreneurial such as the current Recyling For Change operation or the malassadas sales to holding special events which include silent auctions & raffles. His professional experiences have made my work much easier in having to deal with all the bureaucratic hoop-de-do at every level of government both administratively and legislatively.
Please don’t forget that he’s a Tasiko too even though he doesn’t post on the blog. Please call upon him for help.
<RONNIE: Did you get my e-mail concerning the August 19 football workshop? If not, let me know & I’ll send it again.
ANOTHER CHANCE TO PARTY? I asked this question a couple of months ago but didn’t get any response – probably because it was too far away to think about. Here it is again.
Is there any interest in coordinating a post-practice weekday potluck on campus in August for the football and women’s volleyball teams both of which will both be in full practice? The purpose of the event, besides eating and fellowship, would be to let them know we’re behind them 1000%. I had an extremely preliminary discussion with an Athletic Department official who said that no decision could be made on their end until a detailed written request was submitted for clearance, but as long as everyone was invited, all teams are included, and there’s no money being made, then it wouldn’t take long for a clearance.
If no one speaks up, then it’ll go into the Great Ideas for Someone Else To Do file.
FINALLY – After ten months, I finally got it, but I still don’t understand why. .Perhaps there are as many reasons as there are people.
Off to work again. Saturdays are just another day on the calendar for this family.
So, which Tsaikos besides Wafan and me are going to be in the DC area next week?
And, following up on Wafan’s question, ST, is Colt going to be practicing at Redskin Park next week? My hotel is five miles down the road.
Or, is there going to be a public reception when Colt meets that young baseball player that Brother Mike wrote about?
oldie- if you are from Hilo, your lurker friend would me know as sum dim!
yikes! me know= be known
(shudders, shudders, shudders)
oh stephen, perish the thought.
the first vision that entered my mind when i read about dpk at the beach was………..moby dick!
(no joke either)
Dr Doc, if you are excited about evolutionary processes in the way Tsai-kos are doing things- like making monetary contributions to the UH Football program, please do speak up and volunteer your services to the people who have expressed curiosity in the possibilities!
Whoweeee!!! baby Miano sure has a head-full of hair ladat!
Liz and Kekoa,
I just qued back in and got to read your comments on the previous blog, I’m glad you guys enjoyed that thought.
Let’s see?, just about seven weeks to go for our Warriors….can’t wait, my hands getting all itchy from the anticipation.
Good mornin’ everyone! I finally got caught up with all that happened yesterday and the day before. It took me two hours last night to read everyone’s comments posted before midnight.
I’m glad you all had such a great time and I look forward to someday meeting you all in person….some day.
Oh, “hi Mrs. Ichi” as someone referred to Stretch’s mom. I wanna see you post something here too.
And, OMG Vince is all grown up. Can’t believe it. I can still remember the day he told my mom (who was his English teacher) that he was committing to UH. Wow how time flies. What is it, 5 kids now? Makes me feel so old.
Stretch,
I hear you. Maybe at one of the Tsaikogates. Is that going to happen this year? BG, Kazz, and whoever else is involved has done a great thing for the Tsaikos and Tsaikettes. We park at Aiea Elementary but pay mucho bucks for the privilege. Don’t mind too much since a good part of the funds go to Na Koa.
LizK,
No, my friend Dim Sum and I are on the Wessai of Oahu. We’re just happy to participate in this blog in our own way. He’s been lurking from the very early days of this blog. He’ll come out of lurking one day.
AAWWWW! Baby pictures… strong woman, Lori M., to get out there so soon after giving birth.
Very cool to see pics of alumni players & to learn about what they are doing.
K, gotta hele on.
hi oldie! Please do come to da t-gates- free paking!
Da odda ting… “some” is a cool part of Big Island dialect pidgin- example:
Some beeg, dat laulau!
Whoops!!
One factual error in my #43 post above. DrDoc headed a 15-person tax department within the trust division of the bank – not the entire division although I think he would have liked to have gone down that road at some point in his career.
oldie:
we also park at Aiea Elementary and may have seen you, but no recognize yet.
introduce if you should see me with Mrs A-House, Midori7, and EthelM.
we walk over to the Tsaiko tail gate in the Richradson Field area – come join us!
Liz, thanks for all the videos. I can’t stop smiling from ear to ear. We got some funny ones among the Tsaikos.
James, most of us either go by our names (stacyj, gigi-hawaii, lizkauai) or a complete nickname-nothing like your real name (bhf2, d1, etc). And den? you go by your legal name here and your nickname in public. Crack me up.
WOW, neighbor:
veeeeeeery nice pics of former Warriors AND THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.
to add to oldie’s post, there is a distinct path from UH lower campus to the NFL – hope some local and mainland athletes consider this in making a decison on where to play football
also, to all the former Hawaii athletes thinking or made their minds to return and play for UH —- WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
mahalo for the offer wdoc.
we do have a working group already which has already solicited the help of some legal smegals. myself has experience with non-profits for over two decades as well many others that we are speaking to/with.
that being said though, we would not want to rub the group who has already put some wheels in motion the wrong way. however, should we need some opinion we will surely call upon the doc.
mahalo and nice chatting with at the bash.
Oldie,
e-mail me at tsaikotailgate (at) gmail (dot) com for password to Richardson Field if you haven’t received it from anybody yet.
People parking there for the tailgates and the entire game will need da password. People walking there no need and can just walk in.
Hello!
DPK at the beach? Whoa…
I wen stay in Kahaluu, they got one nice kine football field for Pop Warners. But get Aloha Aina over there today till 2. RECYCLE!
stacyj- the best is yet to come! Still uploading
A-House,
Good idea. Hopefully, we’ll be in the parking lot at the same time. Looking forward to the first game at Aloha Stadium.
Kazz,
Will do. Have you or BG been able to securre Richardson for this season?
——
I mentioned this before, but the thing that impressed me about Jim Donovan is that he continued to park at Aiea Elem last season even though he could have gotten parking in the stadium as the color commentator for KFVE. He’s just a very humble guy.
Oldie,
Check out the dates for the 2008 season here:
http://home.hawaii.rr.com/smurashi/tsai-kos/tailgate.html
Liz, too funny. I keep going back to check and just finished Kekoa’s video (which is labeled Hinshaw, BTW). I even busted out the earphones since the babies are taking their naps now and I have the volume cranked up.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can’t wait for the pictures too…
Good afternoon Tsaikos!
Las Vegas Sports Consultants lists Hawaii as a 27 pt underdog against Florida in August. Rutgers is a 5 pt favorite over Fresno St. USC -18 vs Virginia. Not that any blog readers care about such things.
99, I wouldn’t expect it any other way. Hawaii with a “new” QB and WRs would never be favored this early against the reigning Heisman QB and a football machine like Florida. But, I also love this. 27 points, I hope this motivates our boys to continue working hard and to go out there and kick some a. If the spread was merely 7 points, they may mentally ease up. I say, bring it on and bring out the competitive beasts in our Warriors.
stacyj-
I think our D is going to give them a rude surprise. Offense will put up all the points we need to shock those gators.
stacyj- YEAH! We’ll show them where the under-DOGS are going to be next month!!!
. Mwahahaha!
I can see that you are a Warrior Fan
Thanks for the headsup on the bad link… fixed.
Also- Papa Leahy video is up. BAM!
OMG! Papa Leahy said the “F” word.
I cannot believe “F” still has the gall to live in HI. And why has not anyone run him down on one of his runs? Bwah-ha-ha-ha!
Thank you LizK for the photos and videos. Awesome and inspiring!
Yeah, I’ll check out the Pops. I love him!
Our D is going to be our strength this year, but if things fall into place, our offense has the potential to get the job done. Remember, Granke and Funaki have years of experience albeit different experience. If they studied the game and have prepared themselves these last few years, it should all fall into place. I just hope we have enough o-line support and an offensive attack that is rounded. I love passing the ball but, need the weapons to keep defenses on their toes. Respect the run.
I got the earphones on and am listening to Papa Leahey. First Mrs. A-house has me laughing…gets me smiling from ear to ear. Then, Pops goes there and talks about the Fumbler. I was laughing so hard my oldest daughter came over, asked me what was so funny, looks at my face and sees me crying with laughter. “What’s wrong mommy?”
Some good those videos. Really wish I was there. I gotta plan for next year.
99club:
27 points is good, but Florida with all their “HIGH” pre-season ranking, they give only 27!!!!!! – they should be shot – or, they are more knowledgeable than the people who sit on their okoloes, thumb through papers, remember the Sugar Bowl, etc., give the gators many props and give the Warriors much small kine credit.
I want it to go higher when so I arrive in LV on 8/26/08 I can go visit Harrah’s.
Well, it was a nice outing today at the UH camp. Very crowded, but very organized.
Leonard Peters did the Samoan slap dance for the kids.
The even was partly sponsored by Gatorade, which was thoughful, but, hey, didn’t Gatorade originate at …
99club & stacyj ~ With a spread like that, the sports book people had better watch themselves. I for one will be more than willing to wager a sizeable amount of the family *Portalet* on this game.
Your reasons are valid stacyj. It’s almost as if you’ve been looking over our shoulders at the practice sessions. Yet, at the same time it’s just knowing the team members and coaching staff as well as you do that allows you to speak as confidently as you do. Good call!
AD JIm Donovan doing the haka…Wow! that speaks volumes of the man; such a humble guy and he mingles with the crowd. The fumbler wouldn’t do it!
Fun chatting with Pops Leahy about his dad, Chuck…back in the days when he used to say he’s short by the size of one small manapua 🙂
Tony Tuioti to be named UH recruiting coordinator???
Gotta love Coach Mack, his wife, Heather, and grand daughter…Coach took pic with me, the wife, and Gigi’s hubby. Saw his bling thing; Heather is so friendly and down to earth and grand daughter told us her horse is stabled at Koko Head. Nice family!
A huge Mahalo to all the Tsaikos/others for all their hardwork and long hours in planning the entire blog bash. Props to all of you…committee members, entertainers, et al. for a job well done! We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to the next one!
And of course, ST…he’s just the best! What more can you say about this great guy….
Aw, Eagle, you know that’s not official yet.
Finally got to meet UHFan808, Annodah Dave, Big Wave 96744, chawan_cut, Esme, L10pc, Mike Tsai, OnARock, Pauoa Boy, and Lois Mui. Great to see Maui No Ka Oi Tsaikos– Duffer, his son and Whitey– again.
ST- if you no like Gatorade… moah bettah revive da Hawaiian Punch, eh?
Is it supposed to be a secret? My bad.
esme is an eagle?
but, you are not the bald kind so you must be golden.
no worry…a plausible error if at all.
Yes LT UH Fan!…I thought I was the only one who keyed on that call that C. L. used to make at the old stadium about the yard marker chains coming up short by a small Manapua, or the length of a Portuguese sausage! 😆
I remember almost falling out of the stands with laughter when I heard it on my new Japanese “7 transistor” radio I carried with me to the game as a little 10 year old. Ahhh…the atmosphere of the old termite palace, nothing like it since.
They say we can’t generate that kind of electricity in today’s sports venues. I say we can. If we help make history repeat itself and pack that big rust bucket full of fans like we did for the UW game…why not?
Grab your neighbors and encourage them to come out. Talk UH fooball to the people you work with, family members or even people you just met. Make it a habit. They say one person doing this can influence 350…I got 5 more to go for this week alone to reach my quota.
Turn conversations to comparing offense and defense hookups with the local kids on the team. There is always a connection to be made with a family or friend of a player. Support them, cheer for them, and celebrate with them.
Woo Hoo!
GO WARRIORS!
Kekoa
LizK,
Thanks for posting the blog party clips. I watched the Papa Leahey one. That was good. I’ll watch the others when I have more time.
LizKauai,
Thanks for posting all those party clips….We enjoyed watching and listening to them…again; great stuff! Like Bulla says Make Memories…
Kekoa, I’ve always said that some of the best players start off on the scout team. If you are hungry enough, your day will come. Those that are happy with just being on the team are happy with where they are. Those that want to play, do everything to learn and excel. Many great players for UH did not even get a scholie. But, they put in the time, they studied, they worked hard, they figured out what it took to get the job done and look at them now. From walk-on to shine-on.
I believe! I think this season is going to be something we will talk about for years to come. We all expected great success with the return of Colt and the receiving corp but this year, this is the year they can prove that they are the real deal. They just have to step up and play like they want it.
That is kinda why I get on the new guys for not making the workouts. I know some have to work and have other commitments BUT, when I see pictures of them all over myspace drinking at high school grad parties every other day, I wonder how committed they are. Some could make an impact right now. Do it. Others could use the time to their advantage. I’m sure the Beast isn’t out partying every day while trying to get his career into full gear as quick as possible. That is dedication to team that I expect. I (along with all us Tsaikos) want this team to be awesome.
Okay, off the box, onto the floor.
Eagle, I hate to say it but if ST isn’t confirming yet, I would hold tight. He usually clues us in pretty early on the scoops. Even if with slight hints.
Hi Kekoa,
The clan was in rare form the other night. 🙂 Good to see Pops Kekoa at another Tsaiko function. He’s looking good!
Stacyj,
I know ST is the man with the scoops, but it doesn’t mean other people don’t have their sources either. And my guess is ST knows what’s going on but is just not saying anything, for whatever reason. Which is why I apologized for saying it on his blog. I’m sure he will come out with something when he’s ready.
We’ll see how it all shakes out.
No worries Eagle…I agree, others do have scoops.
Wassup Doc:
Enjoy your Relay for Life events tonight. We donated ice for all the teams doing the one in Kona couple weeks ago. We used to do Magic Island when we lived on Oahu. Mother-in-law is a big volunteer for ACS Oahu.
Eagle:
You’re always welcome to say or write what you wish.
There’s a legal glitch in which no offers can be made until at least Monday. And there might be a problem with the selection process that needs to be addressed first. McMackin has to be cautious with this hire because of certain ramifications.
ST,
A blog contest might be fun too… 🙂
Why did I need to fill out a survey before I could get on the blog????
Sad, sad, sad. I’ve always been an HA supporter but common management. First the videos are gone now, no recognition of ST’s accomplishments. Auwe!
stacyj:
Every time the computer guys tinker with the site, then it resets, meaning whoever signs on has to go through the annoying survey.
I wonder if nobody posted for a day if that would get management’s attention. Although, I would have massive withdrawls.
Note to computer guys, leave us alone! j/k
Hey, I was 100.
And, 101, 103, 104 maybe 105. I guess I should go now.
More stills are up.
stacyj- your mom- was she an English teacher at Farrington?
I think HA management have a problem. They don’t know whether it’s better to acknowlege Tsai’s blog or ignore it.
I’m sure they are aware of the high traffic it generates. That’s all good. But they also know that the Tsaikos would follow ST to another blog site in a flash if he chose to create one. That makes ST a potential threat to them. Management does not know what to do with this.
have=has. Although in Europe have is the correct verb, I think.
acknowlege=acknowledge. It’s weekend, brains not working too good.
Back again after watching some Mustang baseball. I have most of the same video clips as Liz, just from a slightly different angle. The following is one she doesn’t have. Liz had just arrived and was immediately put to work. Thanks, Liz–this is for you– sjmacro &myki
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2733922729562083167&hl=en
not only graham…..but that mlb, T.J. Alofipo.
Back from work and what? Only 111 comments? Everybody party pooped out? Lol.
The pictures and Liz’s video are great as usual. A fine assortment of Tsaiko-Humanity and Football speciments. Nice job all around.
Liz-
Mahalo for posting the videos on your blog! Great stuff. Watched them on the laptop on the patio while BBQ’ing teri burgers (wit’ onions) on ‘da grill in W. TX.
ST-
Loved your tribute to your wife and family. I’ve got a military retirement ceremony coming up and the only reason I want one is to recognize my wife.
(Eh. ‘dat you?!)
Ha’a clip is up–sjmacro
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6872074432808048153&hl=en
ok stills are up.

Mahalo, sjmacro! Tag team cameras cover all da bases, eh???
sj- I am finally getting a chance to look at your stills… awrite!!!
…and that’s why the WB is the best and most *reliable* source of news on Warrior FB!
Hee hee! Actually, I think to clarify, if I understand correctly: An “Esme” would be to drop in quickly and then leave (as in “tappity tap” … and then the cane). A “Jojo” would be … not to show up?
Hmm, no word of Pisa, LaBoy, Lelie and Elam. How come those former UH players weren’t invited or declined to show up? Forney? Mauia?
Can Tuioti join the staff this year if he is a high school coach right now?
Ryan:
Expect Tuioti to join UH on, oh, say, Tuesday.
But there’s a sensitivity to this, which is why they’ve been on the hush-hush for about a month. I taught in the UH system the past seven months and, trust me, the process is difficult.
99club:
Thanks for the kinds words.
My wife is a great person. She feeds the homeless. She is a volunteer in the foster children’s program. She’s nice to everyone.
yah, esme a “jojo” is a no show.
altho’ i have been accused of being “jojo” on occasion by the blog master himself.
i guess i did an “esme” on thursday night. but, in this case, i was the chaffeur for the maui boys and one of them was a 14 year old who was falling asleep.
ST, thanks for your comment on my blog. And I thank your wife for her comment, also.
So much excitement this past week. What will you do for an encore next week???
Can’t wait! haha
I tell ya, ST … Wena ROCKS! She is a keeper. But I guess you knew that already.
Actually, I forgot to mention this, but Gigi actually was my first “celebrity” blogger. I remember doing a search and learning that she was a published author.
I remember after my first post, I got an e-mail from someone welcoming me to the blog-a-sphere. So I wrote back. Turned out it was spam.
I have been going thru Liz’s vids. She had such a steady hand especially when you realize she had to keep her camera up in the air for extended periods.
Thanks, Liz, for all your hard work.
Hey Al, the 14 year old had the task of watching whitey that night. Not any easy task!
ST, if you ever continue with your “guest” host, I maybe able to talk Sen. Tsutsui into hosting. Not sure if it would generate enough interest to the Tsai-kos however.
so who’s on the Bio schedule for next week?
btw, gigi i left you a nice comment on yesterday’s blog too.
really. believe it or not.
duffer….i am not telling.
st….yah you had us all guessing. i guessed wrong.
okay time to prepare the evening meal.
cya
OK, guys, I checked my blog again and saw your comments. Many thanks!
I agree with Al, I get a lot of ribbing on the Warrior Beat. I must be a glutton for punishment cause I keep coming back for more! aiya! Crazy, huh?
Gigi:
I haven’t figured out the blog bio list yet.
The way the plan was supposed to go was we’d have a regular blogger on Tuesdays, a lurker on Wednesdays, a “celebrity” on Thursdays and a UH person on Fridays.
This is how it unraveled: The girlfriend of our first UH subject pulled a Jojo and decided not to write the bio. We had pictures and everything lined up. Then Liz Chun was set to go. She agreed. We waited and waited. I ran into her, and said she’d deliver. Then it was more wait and wait.
I was ready to move on to Leahey or Kekaula, but I promised I’d have her on first.
hmmm, ST, what’s with these media people? Don’t they know about deadlines? haha. I’d move on to Leahey or Kekaula.
Will Kekaula discuss the 6 toilets in his house? I am sure he will cause he’s not bashful.
Kekaula has what is officially called the Big John.
Here’s the link to the Big John toilets. I love the motto: It’s for the growing population.
http://bigjohntoiletseat.com/
ST, interesting that Amazon.com sells Big John toilets. I guess it’s ideal for Kekaula since he’s heavy. I want to ask him if his 6 toilets are in one room or whether they are scattered throughout his house.
Imagine: one toilet per person! Luxury!
Aaaah, the subject has gone into the toilet…..lol.
You know, Gi-Gi, its your good friends who can always give you a hard time and tease you. Those are the people on this blog. People who are not your friends would not say anything. But that’s the nature of this blog…
Lori Miano–
What a cute baby! Congrats.
ST,
Great photos! That sounds like an awesome dinner and it is great that so many past UH players came back to help support the school and raised some money in the process.
Thank you also for the updates on the players from past teams! I wish them all well and am proud of how they represent the school and state.
Good to hear that the Tuioti announcement is getting close to becoming official.
Siena Miano is so cute! Congratulations to Lori and Rich! I agree with the comment from earlier today that Lori looks great, especially so soon after having a baby.
Hi Wena! I don’t remember if I ever got a chance to say that before…
I hadn’t been able to be on the blog all day because we had to rush to meet our houseguests at the Wild Animal Park this morning and then were with them all day. They just went to sleep so I could check the blog…I can’t wait to see the photos and videos from Liz and sjmacro, but that will have to wait until our houseguests leave.
As mentioned earlier I have clips similar to Liz just from a different angle. The following is the proclamation for ST and his speech. Clip is a little long–20 minutes, but a better change of pace than having to watch archived UH games for the fourth time this week 😆 And Leahy wonders how we get through a 693 page blog. 😀 enjoy–sjmacro

Interesting article about how the emphasis on earlier and earlier recruiting can hurt both the team and player. I agree with that conclusion…but if everyone recruits early then nothing can be done about it. And with an early signing period a definite possibility in the near future, the problem will get worse, not better.
The article also goes over something that I pointed out months ago–the top Texas schools (Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, etc.) have given out almost all of their scholarships…that means that there will be players in Texas who improve a lot their senior season (which is quite common) who do not have a top in-state school (plus, Oklahoma and others will be almost out of scholarships too) to offer them. In my opinion, that is an opportunity for a school like UH to get some good players who proved themselves during their senior year.
Thank you sjmacro and Liz! I can’t wait to have the time to go through everything you have made available!
Article about how there are so many intermediaries (many with questionable ethics) that work between players and agents.
Free play link time. Please ignore my next 5 posts if you do not want the off-topic stuff. I actually might not be able to find 5 links since I was offline all day, but maybe some old stuff will be dug up.
The Navy is turning the Fuji Film blimp into a super spy blimp that will catch drug smugglers, immigrant smugglers, etc. It sure it a LOT more efficient (10 gallons of fuel per hour vs. the current 600-700 gallons of fuel for patrol aircraft) to use that type of vehicle and it can stay in the air a lot longer than an aircraft or helicopter.
Google released its first native app for the iPhone and iTouch.
Interesting to read about how road blocks are used by kids in Chad to get money.
Looks like summer is already over in the UK!
I cannot imagine how I’d react if I was this 33-year-old man!
It is amazing to me that millions of Americans used dial-up now and never want to get faster Internet access.
Free play links pau.
Garret: Thanks for reminding me about the App Store! 🙂
So I stopped by Pearlridge today, and indeed, chawan_cut was sitting at a long table with many of his creations present. People would walk past in a rope line, and he’d answer questions.
Garret-
Mahalo for the free links. Good stuff to expand the brain cells and make us think and wonder beyond our imaginary and personal cubicles in life.
All I can say is #115 priceless.
It is such a refreshing thing to see that the current AD is part of the fan base rather than part of the problem.
Not sure if anyone posted this yet:
LizKauai & sjmacro –
I thoroughly enjoyed re-living the awesome time we all enjoyed at the Thursday blog bash through your excellent videos and still pics. You both are very, very special Tsaikos, willing to put forth the that extra effort…to photo document so many special memories of happy times. We are blessed to have not one but two skilled photographers who share so willingly, capturing the total essence of a very, very special evening. Mahalo nui loa from the bottom of my heart…on behalf of the entire A-House Ohana.
A-Joe, yes, mom was an English teacher at FHS for about 10 years. Prior to that, she was at Dole (taught English, Social Studies, ESL, Title 1) for a good 18 years.
sjmacro- hooo, a 2 camera event! Funny, ST said the same thing on both our videos!
But no act… saw that tripod… cheater.. Bwahahaha!
I apologize for the skaky video, loud SLR shutter snaps and sudden bright lights. That’s what happens when you try to multitask a shoot 😆
I showed some of the videos to our gathering tonight. This kids actually cleaned the house enough so that a few people could come over!
Good evening everyone.
Thursday night was a blast. Great to see everyone. Brie and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you very much ST..for this community..thank you party planners..job well done…
As usual I had such a great time .. got home late and is still trying to catch up on lurking and sleep.
Garret: I’m one of them still on dial up…so videos and pics will need to wait…but I finally took the plunge and hooked up with phone company on their 19.99 for life special. Went in on Friday and was told it would take 4 days for the service to start. They count business days..Thursday I will be up and running. Brie is happy , she’ll have wireless access for her laptop.
Stopped by the football camp before the track meet..saw BrianK, Coach Mack and Coach Rolo. Saw many more people but did not recognize them. I think I need flash cards with pics and name to memorize. I guess I will be an extremely poor reporter.
Mei Ling: How are you? Still on IR?
LizK..Will get to your videos on Thursday or Friday…Would love to hear.see them again.
Hi Esme! You sound great (at Genji)..enjoyed the Karen Carpenter number..my all time favorite from her is Merry Christmas Darling.
Hiya JaM ~ Just register onto Liz’s blog site and you’ll see her entire collection of stills and thrills anytime you want. No cover charge.
G’night!
Kekoa has left the building…
Jason – Was that you at Borders? I was running out to take my kid to the bathroom and saw someone that looked like you. Uncertain and in a rush to get to a bathroom….didn’t get to say hi.
I knew that was Chawan. I was going to go in line and ask him…”Are you a Hawaii football fan….that also has a slight interest in some girl named Leila?” But the line was too long. Oh for two today…and I usually see Homey there every weekend.
Liz and Jerry – Thanks for the videos and pics! Next best thing to actually being there. The vibe and energy at the bash was just awesome….can feel it just through watching the videos.
Yeah, I was at Borders today. 😀
Looking at Jason’s picture earlier, man has he changed!
Grown from a skinny kid into a (still skinny) young man.
ラスベガス-
Good morning Mr. LV…still in the dog house for the car? A friend at work bought the same model the other night and it was his wife who suggested it. She wanted to get rid of their van. I’m waiting for the day when my wife suggests that I get a motorcycle to save gas.
d1shima’s posts above regarding the injured player for Florida…wow…they were already 98 out of 119 in pass defense. Our biggest problem in that game may be that our QB’s eyes will be too big when he sees the open guys.
LizK,
Howzit dearest lady! I just read #69 and I haven’t finished catching up yet but I just wanted to say
THANK YOU for the video of Papa Leahey.
sjmacro #111
fabulous, just fabulous
