UH adds 2 receivers; Brashton to J-E-T-S; Miah to hoops

The Warriors picked up two more verbal commitments from receivers — Trevor Davis of Alhambra High in Martinez, Calif., and Cecil Doe of North Dakota State College of Science.

Davis is 6-1, 165 pounds, and claims to run 40 yards in 4.45 seconds. He joins the Warriors on the Fourth of July (his birthday). His second cousin is Donovan McNabb.

Here is his highlight video: Trevor Davis.

Doe is 6-3, 212 and claims to run 40 yards in 4.38 seconds. Doe enrolls at UH in January, and will participate in the offseason conditioning program and spring training.

Here is his highlight video: Cecil Doe.

Former UH linebacker Brashton Satele said he arrived in the Big Apple last night and will participate in the New York Jets’ practice today. Satele was signed to the Jets’ practice squad.

UH today announced that slotback Miah Ostrowski has joined the Warrior basketball team. Ostrowski, who will play both sports, is a leading contender for a slot position next season.

Kortney Kikiloi-Borthwick has selected LizKauai as the winner of the WAC championship T-shirt.

While we wait for the Big West to make a decision, let’s have another contest. How about another WAC championship T-shirt? To enter, please post: I love college

Avis is still in Florida, so Kortney will choose the winner tonight.

would be nice to get either the three or four star rb.

remember though that we got that under the radar four star sterling “silver” jackson and the former three star all state rb from kahuku who is bouncing back from byu, malosi “da bull” te’o.

  11. al December 8, 2010 12:53 am

would be nice if one of cecil “doe-boy” doe’s oline teammates came along for the ride. both are being chased by most of the bcs schools.

so the flood gates have been opened…coaches off in different directions to scourge the nation for more future warriors of note.

it could get interesting as the lid has been lifted we are going after the recruits hard between now and the hawaii bowl.

  20. al December 8, 2010 2:57 am

looks like we are in pursuit of…

at least one more wr/sb. the target recruit is gonna trip soon,a salas clone.

maybe a rb that we cannot refuse

    four db’s

four olinemen, well maybe two more since i think we got two already

    four dlinemen

    two lb’s

and one holy grail, the straw that stirs the drink, the cog in the wheel.

that might be all the room we have left.

    Good morning Tsaikos everywhere.

    Good job coaches.

Welcome and Aloha to Warrior Nation

Cecil Doe, Trevor Davis. Wow. Alongside Ellis Henderson, our future looks bright bright.

  36. Pride. December 8, 2010 5:07 am

I’m also glad that Greg Salas persevered at UH in 2006 and 2007. By not quitting after not getting any playing time in those years he secured himself playing time in 2008, 9, and 10. Salas also turned out to be not bad as a football player.

  50. 808ike December 8, 2010 5:53 am

Great news that we are getting tall receivers with speed. All the receivers need now is the final element—STICKY FINGERS—like Salas.

  55. Kekoa December 8, 2010 6:26 am

Big Hilo ~ Tulsa seems to be a mirror image of our style of play on both sides of the ball. The difference will be our Warrior desire to play above what is necessary to win. Our receivers have consistently shown us how they can make the key receptions. They are ma’a when it comes to giving Moniz a clear target to throw to. They know how to help him by working to stay ‘open’ for an outlet pass, or position themselves to block for him if he decides to scramble.

Those are just some of the variables that don’t show up on the Stat sheets on offense. On defense, the Warriors have learned to adapt. Time and again I have seem rise to occasion and make that 3rd down stop.

Just like the old saying, “when in doubt, PUNT!”

Oy!..Oy!..Oy!…we got da Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! What a terrific weapon he has been for us, as he learns and improves with every game!

Whenever I have the opportunity to speak to young local athletes venturing off to play a college sport, I always share the same message. No matter what sport, what level of play, that message is always the same.

Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude.

Persevere. Hang tough. Hang on. Work hard. Be ready. Your time will come. You’re a freshman, don’t expect the world to be given to you right off the bat. Hang on.

Always be positive, have a good attitude, it affects your play. It affects your playing time. always have a good attitude. Allways have a great attitude.

    Pride

Can you talk to my kid?

  58. RainbowCliff December 8, 2010 6:36 am

Good morning Tsaiko Nation, The departure of Anthony Salter and Jordan Coleman does not come to much of a shock to me. Coleman was really not that good as playing for Calabassas H.S. was not looked upon here in CIF as a top teir basketball program as the competition he played against was not even close to the teams that I know in City, Valley or South Bay area that are ranked and play against the best all over Los Angeles. Calabassas is way off the Ventura 101 freeway and the hoop competition out there is weak as the Marmonte League do not have CIF Division 1 teams as Agoura H.S; Royal H.S; and Moore Park H.S varsity teams will LOSE to City and CIF top tier JV teams. Coleman H.S. statistics though impressive was pretty much against low level CIF competition not against the Mater Dei’s, Polys, Compton and Serra top notch ball players as you will see one when Ronnie Stevens from Serra H.S. plays for the Bows next year.

Coleman was Nash recruit and for Arnold to reach out to the young man and extend a better basketball situation just showed how immature and egotistical he was with his skills and over rated h.s. statistics. Coming back here to LA he won’t be at UCLA or USC for that matter as he wasn’t even close to being recruited from them or WCAC schools infact LMU was not recruiting him. Sorry to bash the young man but facts are facts as he should of stayed in Hawaii and get his skills up par against D-1 competition and improve in practice to gain playing time and learn the system that Arnold was preparing for him as down the line he will regret quitting Hawaii as all that awaits for him back here in LA is JC at best.

Anthony Salter I liked his open court game but coming from a JC with his expectations of playing the pg in a high pick n roll offense with pass first and shoot later was not going to cut it as his defensive skills were suspect and his attitude of I before WE the team was never there. You take a shot with JC transfers though some what playing ability against bigger college players on the junior college level is a plus but they lack in many other areas especially academics as one year to transition to the program and way of life in Hawaii and next year they are GONE !

Don’t like QUITTERS as I saw that during my playing days as a BOW and till this day when I saw those players who quit on us they regretted that moment 29 years later. Wish both

former bows good luck as both are going to be in a real REALITY CHECK where ever they end up !

  59. Hank December 8, 2010 6:42 am

…Wishing good Mana to Anthony and Jordan…

  60. WOW ! December 8, 2010 6:45 am

Seems like the only issue with some Big West voters will be the travel subsidies, how much will UH be willing to pay ?

  61. jeezy33 December 8, 2010 6:47 am

Alright Stephen, what you got about RB / Safety Will Gregory commitment?

    3 stars 6 ft 179 pounds rated 46th overall RB by rivals.com

    Mack is on a roll

  62. Buffoman December 8, 2010 6:48 am

I believe that if we got into the BW, the Wahine V-ball team would probably have a few more losses, but I do not think that the rating would be much different. I do expect that they would be much better prepared for post season play as the competition there would be at a higher caliber than the WAC.

Question to anyone in the know, what really are the chances of UH landing that stud O-lineman and as the two monster o-linemen from Kapolei do not seem to be highly rated, what are our chances of 1). landing them, 2). getting some muscle and technique into them and 3). have them looking like those past not so highly rated guys who went on to the next level after their stint at UH?

  63. NYUH December 8, 2010 6:49 am

    Concerning Salter and Coleman…

I’m just glad that people like Moniz and Salas didn’t just quit!

I mean, we have so many positive examples of this in all UH sports!

Not a good way to start out their young lives! But hey, like they say, kids know everything at that age… until they become adults!

    Hi ST and Tsaikos!

Congrats, LIZ! What, is this your 3rd prize this season? Sheesh. Well, don’t stop now.

ST, it’s great that the recruitment is picking up steam. Winning always does that.

    Way to go, Warriors!

  68. kev-1 December 8, 2010 7:31 am

What, do most of you guys work the night shift? I never paid attention to times before, but 1, 2, 3 ,4 in the morning posts? Now those are fans. Maybe that’s why their called Tsaikos. Haha . . . awesome blog.

Good luck Brashton. I heard (based on what someone told me from the HBO thing) that Ryan seemed to like him, but the ST coach wanted to cut him. Is that any where near being correct?

  69. kev-1 December 8, 2010 7:33 am

#62 . . . exactly! You can’t play scrimmages against practice squads all year and expect to get very far in the post season. No disrespect to any of the WAC schools, especially since we got knocked off by one this year, but you get the point.

  70. Michigan Warrior December 8, 2010 7:35 am

I’m in the eastern (US) time zone.

  71. kev-1 December 8, 2010 7:45 am

I’m sorry, I know they’re only kids, but . . . divas!!! Since when does a freshman get pissed about playing time? Come on!

I just hope we can make up for the losses. Any football players that can fit in, or at least give us more depth on the roster? How about miah or lutu?

Anyway, good luck Salter and Colemen. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

  72. kev-1 December 8, 2010 7:46 am

AHHHH . . . didn’t even think of our overseas Warriors. That would explain some of the times. Thanks MW.

    Aloha Kakahiaka!

To underscore the Pride. theme this morning, I am going to look at my Sugar Bowl poster when I get to work later on and smile at all the young, then-unknown faces who were part of a team that experienced a perfect season, high expectations, dashed hopes, severe adversity, unknown future, radical and sudden change, hard work, tough character-building, more hard work, self-determination, did I mention hard work?, more adversity, some success, more disappointment, more hard work, more development, sparks of faith, shock and awe, crash and burn, forgiveness and reunification, more hard work and the light of Believe and Team Spirit.

Also gonna smile on the coaches in that picture who are here today and thank them for helping create a successful, sustainable football program for Hawaii.

As mentioned before, victories are comesurate with the crisis -as ye have faith, so shall your powers and blessings be.

    BHF2 re #41

Not the proper place to express sadness, perhaps, but a sort of place to write about a friendship that has gone on for 51 or so years.

Though there was a 18-year gap between ages, Sam and I had lunch together for a period longer than I have been married – and we celebrate our Golden Anniversary next April.

Our lunches together was at one time 3x a week though it dropped off to 2x a week Mondays and Fridays during the last several years. It was amazing considering the age gap. We were known as the odd couple. He was a Republican; I was a Democrat. But our commonality was more alike than unlike. Our conversation ranged from legal to cultural; from arts and music to football.

Sam will be sorely missed – may his soul rest in peace.

I don’t think people mind donating. But they need to know where the money is going. UH needs to do like those Christmas funds:

Jimmy Donovan is the only AD in his conference without a soccer coach. It’s been tough to recruit. Won’t you please help Jimmy have the necessary funds to pay for a coach …

  88. Slugger December 8, 2010 9:11 am

    tommui,

#81 ~ I think I saw you two at lunch at Happy Day a couple of years ago. That was shortly after I had moved home. I knew who you were, but my Mom recognized Sam. Sorry to hear of his passing.

  89. Slugger December 8, 2010 9:16 am

Congratulations to our VB Wahine named to the All-Region Team!

  90. Derek December 8, 2010 9:18 am

Al, I hope the receiver who is a Salas clone that is visiting here soon is Tyler Trosin from Folsum, CA. He’s from the same school as David Graves and it would be a natural that David will be his host. This guy, Trosin, has some moves that you cannot believe, like he’s got eyes in the back of his head. Did you see his highlight reel on you tube? He gets open, but the thing I like is the yards after catch. It’s really unbelievable. The best part is that he would be a freshman.

Still waiting for the holy grail. Let us know when he comes on board. Are any of the DL targeted at pass rushers?

I’m disappointed in Coleman and Salter. It’s only 1 month into the season and as I see it they quit. I guess they didn’t remember what Jim Valvano said, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.” If they want to get more playing time, get better, improve, get stronger, be smarter, improve their skills, offensively and defensively. Don’t complain. We want strong character guys who will fight, play hard, be team oriented. That’s why I commend a guy like Douglas Kurtz who in my mind has improved over last year and keeps plugging away.

Good luck to Salter and Coleman wherever they go, but I think they short changed the Hawaii basketball program and Gib Arnold. Arnold doesn’t need this.

Thinking about Cecil Doe, here’s a little funny line from the Three Stooges! Moe, “Oh, see the deer.” Curly, “Does the deer see the Doe.” Moe, “Yeah, two bucks.” “You nitwit!”

Have a wonderful sunny day in Hawaii Nei. There is no better place to play college football than in Hawaii. Look at the weather lately on the mainland. New England and N.Y. Jets on Monday night, 17 degrees with wind chill. Boise? Nebraska? Wisconsin? BYU? Colorado? Oregon or Oregon St? Washington? Washington St.? If I was Chester Sua I would re-thingk my commitment to Wazzu. Pullman! I’ve been there. It’s strictly a college town. Good school academically and I have a lot of friend that went there. But the weather there is brutal from middle November to even the middle of March. Even the state of Texas? Cold, cold, cold.

Coleman and Salter… in leaving the team, maybe they made the team better. Two voices of discontent are gone. Coach Arnold needs the team to come together. The rest of the players will now have more playing time; they will get stronger and better as a result and the names Coleman and Salter will be for camping gear and weight scales.

It was a very successful season for the Warriors, now on to the Hawaii Bowl!

Congratulations to the Wahine selected to the all-region team. It must ache Steve to see who got selected.

For some reason I thought there would be more verbal/oral commitments. After reading past blog topics the reason for secrecy was to prevent poaching from other schools. In not saying these last three recruits aren’t studs but the unnamed recruits must really be super studs for them to remain anonymous! lol

Salter and Coleman, reminds me of that Geico commercial with the drill sergeant ( R. Lee Ermey):

“You know what makes me sad? YOU DO!! Maybe we should chug on over to mambie-pambie land so maybe we can find some self-confidence for you, ya Jackwagon!!! Tissue? (throws box) crybaby!”

  111. d1島 December 8, 2010 10:11 am

Florida was a staggering 57-10 in Urban Meyer’s first five seasons at the helm in the Swamp. This season, Florida lost five games for the first time since Ron Zook’s last season as coach.

I guess the expectation level in Gainesville has caught up with Statesboro, GA where fans of Georgia Southern let Paul Johnson know that they didn’t expect to win “more than once a week.”

  112. koakane™ December 8, 2010 10:17 am

Urban Meyer is stepping down as football coach at Florida, the school’s athletic director announced Wednesday.

“I fully grasp the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field,” Meyer said.

“I will profoundly miss coming to campus every day to coach this team, but I will always be a Gator at heart,” he said.

Meyer will coach his last game for Florida in the Outback Bowl against Penn State on Jan. 1 in Tampa.

    just my opinion.

#122… Ala Wai… if UH is #24 in the final BCS rankings of the regular season, it just shows that the Rivals people don’t know jack. In fact, UH is in every top-25 major poll except for Jeff Sagarin and ESPN’s Power Rankings, which has UH at #27.

  136. RainbowCliff December 8, 2010 11:16 am

Well folks, the present bows have to TOUGHEN up and by TEAM committee fight even harder as now the MEAT of the schedule is coming up with Diamond Head Classic and WAC play right around the corner. Bobby Miles is going to gain TREMENDOUS experience but I feel the key to this season will be letting Hiram Thompson start and lead the team as the point guard.

Thompson has put in his time with the Bows and his leadership has shown RESPECT from his young teammates. Jostin has to play BIGGER inside and BO Barnes can’t keep relying on spotting up for the three as he has to develop a break down move against teams that will be playing him for the jumper. Joaquim is a BEAST on the boards as Wiseman and Johnson are good slashers and finishers at the basket. Still hoping for Blumfield to have a break out game as recovering from knee injury is a process.

Coach Arnold is going to have to use all his game strategies and really get after it DEFENSIVELY as his young stallions are going to have to grow up quick. Team will prevail as you good folks of Tsaiko Nation are there for support and I will do my part down here !

    GIV M BOWS !

  137. mctruck December 8, 2010 11:18 am

So, with Coleman and Salter leaving the team, I’d like to know two things: 1st, will that mean/allow for the coach to bring in another two on scholarship at this late date?, 2nd, how will it affect the team overall depth-wise??

  138. mctruck December 8, 2010 11:20 am

Those fb recruits that so far have visited and made verbals are not the same as those reported on scoutdotcom???, evidently, scout has wrong info., wada-scoup???

  140. RupertDaStupert December 8, 2010 11:24 am

All this talk about super fast receivers is fine. But I define a great receiver not by speed, but great hands. Bullet Bob Hayes, Ollie Matson, Willie Gault, Randy Moss, were track stars. Renaldo Nehemiah was a world class hurdler, but he could not hold on to the football for the S.F 49’s. Give me the good hands receivers anyday like Jerry Moss, Don Maynard, Marvin Harrison, Lance Alworth, Steve Largent, Lynn Swann who made game winning catches time after time. Davone Bess, Greg Salas, Ryan Grice Mullen, Nate Ilaolla, Jim Schultz, were not super fast but great hands. Speed can be taught. Ashley Lelie was coached into becoming a track star sprinter. You have exceptions like Golden Richards. Walter Murray was great for the UH Warriors but he could not make the clutch catch when the game was on the line.

Another version of a New Day for DrDoc and me. We ordered a (real) subscription to the Star-Advertiser and guess what!! I read it back to front plus the Breaking News section in less than 40 minutes – thus reducing the average time spent dealing with flashing ads and pop-ups and slowwwwww dow-loading by nearly two hours.

Now I have more time to deal with the nine different projects I’m working on – some as part of my day job and the other as a volunteer.

Best decision we’ve made since deciding to move to the lower bowl at The Stan for men’s basketball & volleyball.

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry to read about Sam King & Elizabeth Edwards. A good reminder how finite life is.

  147. al December 8, 2010 11:29 am

    could it be….?

with the new gag order, a coach can only say so much to the public. perhaps an underlying reason also exists that causes two young men to make such an irrational decision at this time. they should have stuck it out since their eligibility clock already burned a year and get a free education through this and the next semester.

unless, academic issues are also involved…see what i mean?

losing those two at this point hurts the team in some ways.

    one, you lose two guards.

two, although they haven’t yet created any impact during games, their worth was at practice.

three, leaving in that manner will create a cloud of doubt by some.

    it helps the team because;

    one, no more monku-monku.

two, you can now build the character of this team with the ones you know are on board.

three, the head coach is in control–no two ways about.

four, it sends a message that we want team players and we won’t tolerate anything else

five, we can spend more time with those who want to be better.

six, more food at the dinner buffets on the road.

Glad to see UH coaching staff reloading with taller and maybe faster receivers as they will lose all four receivers – that’s 3 “in-house” and one or more to go.

Watching Ceil Doe’s clip, I also was impressed with the left hand QB, but being a JCer, UH should go after others. Also, liked the Oline who provided all that pass block protection.

As the days go by, more posts will begin to appear of possible mainland recruits. But, notice the total “lack” of Hawaii players – saw only one where there was mention on possibly 3 Oline from the “wess side” – 2 at Kapolei?

Hope al’s choice of RB comes true – is he a “beast”? – perhaps as good as Nsaty nate or better? – that would be a dream come true as we have waited patiently for another Nasty Nate type of RB!!!

Miah Ostrowski to the BB team is GOOD news!

Did y’all see the video of Doe-Boy dunking the BBall? Pretty good. And I have a better picture of him than the ones on the scout…com sites. 🙂 He has a receiver’s bod. With instruction from Mouse and using the JUGS machine, new receivers will learn & develop sticky hands. Really impressed with Cecil being able to play piano by ear, too. Yup, David Graves will be happy to have more teammates to jam with.

    Congratulations to Lyndie Irons!

The foundation of a champioship team is an outstanding defense. As much as Hawaii’s offense lead the nation in passing and was among the leaders in total offense and scoring, our defense really stepped up and led the natiion in creating turnovers and second in the nation in turnover margin. Our special teams defense was also good in preventing returns. In recruiting we need to find these special players on the defensive line, LBs, and defensive backs to replace those that are leaving and move up to being an elite defense.

That was the downfall of the Wahine. The Wahine did not pass well and were out blocked against Utah St. and Washington in their 2 losses. I saw for the first time this year that the Wahine lost more than their share of long rallies, where in the past Hawaii would win most of the time. Many times, Hawaii did not terminate or win points on the 1st or 2nd opportunity giving the other teams to beat us. Part of that is our passing and the kill attempts were weak, we had more than our shares of unforced errors. I also noticed that the opponents were doing a better job of digging our balls. To compound that, our serving did not improve at the ending part of the season. Last year, Amber Kaufman and Stephanie Brandt were very good at serving. This year, the Wahine had too many serving errors which was very frustrating. Under the bridge at this point as the season is over. I think in his mind, Shoji kinda knew that this team had some weaknesses and it showed at the end. As the saying goes, wait til next year. Hawaii fans have been waiting for the next Championship since 1987.

one, it is too fat and therefore hits both the “o” and the “p” simultaneously.

two, it is faster than any other finger because often times you type the “o” instead of the intended letter that follows the “o”.

three, you really don’t know how to keyboard.

Whenever I have the opportunity to speak to young local athletes venturing off to play a college sport, I always share the same message. No matter what sport, what level of play, that message is always the same.

Pride: Thanks! Your words were passed on to listening young ears!

“Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude. Perseverance. Attitude.

Persevere. Hang tough. Hang on. Work hard. Be ready. Your time will come. You’re a freshman, don’t expect the world to be given to you right off the bat. Hang on.

Always be positive, have a good attitude, it affects your play. It affects your playing time. always have a good attitude. Allways have a great attitude.”

What is that thing you keep hearing in the Sports Book about Bowl Games?

A hidden benefit to playing in the Hawaii Bowl for the University of Tulsa football team will be the practices leading up to it.

The Golden Hurricane will work a total of 15 times preparing for the Dec. 24 game against 24th-ranked Hawaii in Honolulu’s Aloha Stadium.

  267. d1島 December 8, 2010 4:00 pm

“Basically, it’s like getting a second spring training,” Graham said. “We call it ‘Winter Ball.’ It’s 15 extra practices for developing fundamentals and techniques for the future team. It means everything to your program.”

While gearing up for the challenge of facing a Rainbow Warriors squad that leads the nation in passing. TU’s coaches will also spend the next three weeks evaluating younger Hurricane athletes who represent the future of the program.

TU went in three split sessions over the weekend, with the younger players getting extra time for individual instruction. The Hurricane will conduct three more split sessions next Friday, Saturday and Sunday before narrowing its focus to bowl preparation.

  270. d1島 December 8, 2010 4:04 pm

I don’t want to beat it to the ground but….

For teams participating annually in postseason play, the 15 extra sessions add up to an extra three months of practice time – nearly a full extra season – over a four-year span.

Graham said the extra time in December propels a team into spring drills.

“I think you’re just further ahead and guys are further along in the teaching progression,” he said.

TU had a number of promising freshmen this season whose development could accelerate with the extra practice time over the next few weeks.

Just like recent years, Tulsa coach Todd Graham and his assistants could be linked to other jobs. Graham said on Monday that he’s committed to staying at TU and keeping his staff intact.

Graham is finishing his second season of a 10-year contract given him after the 2008 campaign.

Good luck to the two ex-‘Bows.

Should have at least finished your current semester/quarter.

Kind of makes me wonder what was going on in your heads. Personal issues? Academic issues? Pouting over playing time? Personality conflicts? Hmmmmmm. Too bad, but you made the choice and now you have to live with them.

  301. wafan December 8, 2010 5:29 pm

    Pride. . . .

You, sir, do not have to apologize. Least of all to me.

It was funny to read and helped to make my day a lot better.

  302. Pride. December 8, 2010 5:34 pm

Wow. I like that Cecil Doe guy. Someone needs to show him video of the 2006 Hawaii Bowl game between Hawaii and ASU. Doe needs to watch Jason Rivers to see what his future could be with hard work in the weight room, on the track, and on the field.

  303. wafan December 8, 2010 5:41 pm

    However, with apologies to Mr. A-House . . .

It is getting close to my bed time.

Rough day with a kid sitting with me all day. Did not want to see anyone else. Just wanted to talk about a tough loss. Kid is resilient and will be, soon enough, mostly fine. And, I received a call from a close friend (fellow SkillsUSA advisor) who told me she has one to four months to go and hopes to make it to see 2011. She fought a good battle for three years.

You folks make me smile and laugh; and, for that I am grateful and thank you.

    Nytal!!!

Tomorrow will be a better day.

After the Mongolian scandal, the Japan Sumo Association told stable masters to reduce recruiting foreign wrestlers – same applied to Hawaii the past 10 years.

    Pride & al:

Is UH recruiting Taase? Does not look like a lot of excess fat – big boy who can play at 345#s. Some NFL players have a bigger Opuu than Taase.

Interesting, that we, Army Reserve in Hawaii, had much difficulty in convincing US Army types that the Samoan troops were not fat; just big boned and heavy. They would not believe us so we invited Department of Army doctors to visit Samoa and examine the troops. They came away impressed with the fitness aspect and changed Army rules when it came to Samoan troops for height and weight specs.

Top 2 TU weapons earn POY awards in C-USA

G.J. Kinne has been named Conference USA’s offensive player of the year, and Damaris Johnson earned the league’s special teams player of the year honor, the conference announced on Wednesday.

League coaches selected Kinne, the junior quarterback who ranks first in C-USA for total offense (322 yards per game), second in passing efficiency (141.8) and passing yards per game (275.6 ypg).

It is the 11th time in 13 seasons that a quarterback has won this award.

Johnson leads the nation for the second consecutive year in all-purpose yards at 191.8 yards per game. He became the Football Bowl Subdivision and C-USA record hold for career kickoff return yards in just his junior season. He had touchdown returns on both a kickoff and punt this season.

  336. Kazz via DROID.X December 8, 2010 9:12 pm

Unbelievable… if its true, apparently there is a stall with the voting as its a split decision with the Big West to invite UH. COULD DRAG IN UNTIL AFTER THE START OF THE NEW YEAR…

This is the latest claim/rumor supposedly stemming from a “source” within the Cal Poly athletic department.

  337. Curt December 8, 2010 9:14 pm

    al,

Can the Big West be a done deal? From Kazz’ reports of the BW commissioner’s comments, there’s no rush and that decisions on the matter have not been made. That really concerns me as it could impact our move to the MWC.

  338. Curt December 8, 2010 9:17 pm

    Kazz,

Just saw your comment. Not good at all. They’ve got leverage and they know it.

  339. greenthumb December 8, 2010 9:19 pm

#286 Pride. — thanks. I was like, school is on an academic year not a calendar year. Forgot about grayshirts.

  340. Kazz via DROID.X December 8, 2010 9:28 pm

    Curt,

To be sure, Im citing info/rumors from elsewhere.

But considering the lack of ANY news from today’s big meeting, its the most plausible explaination that remains in tune with the BWC’s commissioner’s comments as of late.

If its true, I feel misled to feel good about our athletic future. Really wish that November 18th press conference never happened.

Again, if its true and it falls apart, the damage done to our image will be severe. Talk about egg on our face…. AUWE!!!!

  341. HawaiiMongoose December 8, 2010 9:41 pm

If this supposed “done deal” falls through then UH will be right back under the dark cloud… and all of us will have to come to grips with the cold hard reality that we had better save the downtrodden WAC because Hawaii is NOT desired by other conferences. No matter how well our student-athletes and coaches perform, or how highly ranked our teams are, or how many fans we send to games, or how many TV dollars we can generate, it doesn’t matter because we’re too damn far away and they just can’t handle it.

  342. Curt December 8, 2010 9:47 pm

    Kazz,

In retrospect, we shouldn’t have done the press conference. We should’ve worked the details quietly behind the scenes until we achieved the results.

As for the BW, I think it’ll still go through. They have the leverage and know that we really need them in a bad way. In other words, they’ll accept us if we give them more pesos (travel subsidies). With what we bring to the table, I really didn’t want us to empty our bank accounts to get us in the door. We’ll see.

  343. Kazz via DROID.X December 8, 2010 9:47 pm

    HawaiiMongoose,

It wasnt that long ago that I felt everything you just said. No matter how well we do, we’re not truly wanted.

Then like magic that feeling went away and it felt like we had our destiny in our hands, now…

?????????? seems like we’re back to possibly accepting the inevitable and it has nothing to do with any invitation or a fair chance to help ourselves.

  344. Kazz via DROID.X December 8, 2010 9:50 pm

    Curt,

If we stay in the WAC, especially for the non-football sports, the bank accounts for sure will drained.

  345. Curt December 8, 2010 9:52 pm

I would’ve liked to see the BW commissioner a lot more enthusiastic about Hawaii joining their conference. Maybe he’s acting like a hot blonde playing hard to get to squeeze more dineros from us.

  346. empty December 8, 2010 9:52 pm

    I love college.

  347. Curt December 8, 2010 9:57 pm

It would’ve been great if we could’ve applied for entry into the West Coast conference as well. Then they would be fighting each other for us. Right now, we’re not in a good bargaining position.

  348. Old Diver December 8, 2010 9:59 pm

Being old I have found it’s not what is said by unnamed sources that’s important, it’s why they are saying it. What axe do they have to grind, are they trying to elevate their importance? After reading this blog for a while there are some here filled with hot air, and some who I can rely on to pass on information without coloring the information with their own bias. I have concluded al is as reliable as they come.

  349. colt fan December 8, 2010 10:01 pm

    I love college!!! Go Warriors!!!

  350. al December 8, 2010 10:01 pm

it is hard to say what is going on since we don’t know do we?

but, silence is not good, but it is better than a “no”. a week ago there seemed to be no problem. perhaps some wish to have a larger travel subsidy than originally planned for by the uh contingent.

this was the leg that we thought we could stand upon. the big west opened up the gates for expansion. so that is good. they want to expand. so bakersfield is light years away from being a viable member and ucsd is still a d2 school. the only real applicant is hawaii.

i think we may have to dig deeper into our pockets to save this one.

and boy does this need to be saved.

    nows the time to pray.

  351. al December 8, 2010 10:03 pm

curt…good point. however, the west coast conference is formed by members associated with the church. we being a public school prevents our inclusion. i did hear that we inquired earlier.

  352. Kazz December 8, 2010 10:06 pm

    I’ve pretty much had it.

Im walking away for a while.

The next time I post, I truly hope that I am the one with “egg” on my face.

Anyone that knows me personally knows the only reason I stress out on this is because this the athletic programs of the Univeristy of Hawaii represent one of the few things in my life I give a ____ about.

I don’t give a – – – – how old someone is, young or old, you have to know me to understand my feelings.

  353. wowlaulau December 8, 2010 10:13 pm

Wow be patient, Hawaii was not the only school who submitted an application to the Big West. Has an announcement been made about those schools? The meeting was today, give it a few days….

We haven’t lost as many recruits recently to Utah and BYU as we used to many years ago. In the last two years we have seen ramped up competition for recruits from Washington and UCLA.

The new Colorado coach has retained Brian Cabral on his staff and has also stolen Arizona’s defensive line coach Mike Tuiasosopo. Look for those two to start banging a lot of doors here in Hawaii as well as in Samoa and Southern California.

  360. Pride. December 8, 2010 10:50 pm

New Colorado coach John Embree also coached with former Rainbow Dino Babers. Look for Dino to be on Embree’s short list for offensive coaches.

  361. Pride. December 8, 2010 10:54 pm

See all kinds of names being tossed around in Florida and Miami as new head coaches in their programs. Quite frankly, I’m sure that Gus Malzahn’s name will eventually come up.

  363. Pride. December 8, 2010 11:13 pm

Hawaii football community needs to understand what kind of game they will be in on Christmas eve. Tulsa is coming in to punch you in the mouth. All of these boys are from Oklahoma and Texas. They were all bypassed by Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M. They are driven and out to prove that not getting offered scholarships by the Big XII schools were big mistakes. The Tulsa coaching staff is young and hungry. They haven’t been around the block like Mac and Mouse have. They are desperate to prove their worth. They are desperate to create their own reputations. They are dreaming every second of every day about different ways that they can beat Hawaii. They are like wild dogs backed up into a corner, ready to bite and scratch anything that gets in their way.

Are the Warriors ready? Do the Warriors know what kind of dogfight they are going to be in? The Conference USA is not an inferior conference. They are fighters and competitors. The Warriors have got to get their minds straight.

JP’s blog is negative again towards the team. If a recruit reads any or all of his blogs, I don’t think he would like to come here. Hawaii is a special place and not everybody can adjust to the environment here. Maybe when the 2 guys go back home to the “Big Freeze”, then they will realize what paradise is and getting an education to boot. Could be their ego was too big and didn’t want to play team ball. Some young players think the world belongs to them and they can do as they please. Too bad players. Good luck to where ever you end up and keep warm.

I’d have thought Tropicana is new/old shitstain of a logo would have gotten worst identity?- If your entire model is compelled to go back to your preceding really feel, the people today who created it will need to really suck.

How can El Banco Deuno and aol be around the greatest l ist, and then bash artwork directors club? I really did nothave an issue with that redesign, and also the collateral was looking fairly good. You recognize what need to have already been around the l ist for worst logos? New York Philharmonic logo. My hatred of that logo burns in my chest to th is day. The title in the designer behind that logo may be the only cause for any of its achievement. Along with the entire Tropicana debacle was left off why? Speaking of Tropicana, does the new Aol logo remind everyone of your rejected Troipcana logo? Personally, I am not a fan of the Aol rebrand. When the execution and implementation are outstanding, the real wordmark is dull, uninspired, and just form of blah. That becoming stated, I concur with a lot of the other rankings. I am even now in love using the city of Melbourne is new identification.

I believe Aol. Should be both the perfect plus the worst of your yr. It’s the best, simply because yes, it will be witnessed probably the most. It also does set a long term for the model, really distinct from their previous as World-wide-web, Inc. It really is also pretty innovative; it will be very unique. It really should be the worst even though because the execution is terrible. The notion, however is resourceful, just sucks. There is very little cons istency, and the wordmark bores me.

  466. ghd hair curlers December 29, 2010 10:50 pm

Syfy detest it or not it is really a a top quality typeface treatment.. the NYPL logo is nice, and I dig the the brand new pfizer mark. AOL is left to be observed as to if it may be the most effective mark. I consider one or two from the worst marks in the yr have been notnearly that bad. I d isagree with Kraft I kinda dig that and msn.

  476. juicy couture December 31, 2010 12:51 am

Count me as another human being surpr ised that you just did notinclude pepsi to the ??worst??? l ist as well as acknowledge their redesign.Other distinct comments. The new Pfizer logo looks sloppy and careless to me. The blue clearspace all around the wordmark is uneven. I like the idea, but the execution is poor. The aged a person is tighter.I do notunderstand what you like improved regarding the new Guitar Hero logo. The damaging area between the letters helps make it just about unattainable to study for me.As for El Banco Deuno, I do notget it whatsoever. The line breaks appear fully jarring to me and remind me of a logo I did for my s ister is line of crafts when I was about 15 (it was the phrase pollywogs??? on two lines, that has a hyphen?- ugh). Finally, I’d really like to determine your l ist of Identities which might be in desperate need of a redesign. My #1 choose could be Verizon.

The whole point of [logo] style just isn’t to show off??? what you are able to do. It is not about bells and wh istles. It’s that kind of contemplating that has a whole lot of present-day designers applying gradients on every single layout aspect as if they had something to complete with v isual communication. The lion drawing does notneed any longer pol ishing. From in which I stand, It will be at a stage where it may possibly ONLY be employed or d iscarded. In case you assume it desires far more pol ishing ,that it is too cartoony??? , or that you’ve styl istic objections with all the option, then maybe you??? re from the unsuitable profession. You??? re complaining about one thing very essential to modern graphic design. I have study from a few of the greats around the topic of layout and I do feel I have a take care of around the topic. It is not your manage, I realize that. What I do notunderstand is your design philosophy. It’s famous which you suppose Nike and Shell are fantastic brands. Maybe you??? re an Worldwide Fashion zealot who thinks a grid is the reply to each and every design challenge. Maybe that is certainly what you meant by pol ished? Or even you??? re into a lot of pointless detail on the logo that will come to be no ise since it is shrunken down? I do notknow. My grammar is generally high-quality, thank you for asking. It is my spelling that was off in a number of places and for that, I apologize, but, you know, if my grammar was anyplace close to as horrible as you declare then you??? d have had a tough time comprehending what I wrote. There can be practically nothing for you to react to. I do notknow about you, however it is hard for me to acquire angry at gibber ish in particular when I have no strategy what it means.

Count me as another individual surpr ised that you just did notinclude pepsi around the ??worst??? l ist or perhaps acknowledge their redesign.Other particular comments. The new Pfizer logo looks sloppy and careless to me. The blue clearspace all around the wordmark is uneven. I just like the notion, however the execution is poor. The previous a single is tighter.I do notunderstand what you like improved about the new Guitar Hero logo. The destructive space between the letters tends to make it just about not possible to read for me.As for El Banco Deuno, I do notget it at all. The line breaks seem totally jarring to me and remind me of a logo I did for my s ister is line of crafts when I was about 15 (it was the word pollywogs??? on two lines, with a hyphen?- ugh).Last but not least, I’d adore to discover your l ist of Identities which have been in desperate want of a redesign. My #1 pick could be Verizon.

I am nonetheless reflecting more than the conflicting points of view, but I am tipped heavily toward yours. And in any situation, that is what is so terrific about modern day democracy and also the marketplace of ideas on-line.

Syfy detest it or not it is really a a top quality typeface treatment.. the NYPL logo is good, and I dig the the brand new pfizer mark. AOL is left to be seen as to if it may be the ideal mark. I assume one or two of your worst marks of the yr were notnearly that bad. I d isagree with Kraft I kinda dig that and msn.
