UH can still do this. I know it’s a long shot, but they have the talent to beat all the teams coming up. Stanford and byu are VERY tough, but if they play with fire and how they did against ucla and long beach, they can do it.

  2. setaone March 10, 2014 10:18 am

besides….the poll is almost meaningless. just gotta make top 8 in the MPSF.

They’ll probably make the last and eighth slot and meet BYU at home again for the playoffs like last year. The only good thing is that I get to watch the match, unlike home matches which I can’t watch (I live on another island) because cable is not available in my area and thus I’m also excluded online. Tough luck last night.

I’m with Brandon. They can take BYU – it’s about wanting it as a team.

THANKS Cindy, for hosting this blog for both the Women and Men teams and providing information for the curious and interested.

  6. Brandon March 10, 2014 3:01 pm

Without Cindy, I probably wouldn’t know as much as I do tbh. She and everyone else on the blog has helped me understand the game and gain insight to how the team (both men and women) work and their chemistry. Not to mention this blog helps me keep track of the scores when in at work

Any news about the transfer yet? Really interested to hear who it is

  8. Brandon March 11, 2014 1:24 pm

I don’t think news will come out till maybe a week or two. Maybe later

  9. Cubicle1126 March 11, 2014 4:08 pm

so news on the transfer will come in a week or two or maybe later…. so basically, any time? giving yourself a wide birth there … 😉

  10. Brandon March 11, 2014 4:28 pm

Well I did say maybe. I’m thinking in a week or two. But we can never be too sure. 😉

Big time to many of us means from a big time program.I have rule out anyone from Texas, Florida, Iowa State,Wisconsin and Nebraska so far solely because they have 2014 rosters posted.

What is interesting this year is the lack of info about big time transfers coming from VT. There is one person over there who has been very good at it and consistently correct in this area and I think they have a Penn State connection.

Schools that are suspects to me are USC,Penn State and UCLA, all have candidates.

I’m not losing any sleep over who it is and can wait for something official but it is fun to do your own investigating.

  12. Brandon March 11, 2014 5:11 pm

People are going to be real disappointed if this transfer isn’t someone from a big time school. That’s why I’m not getting my hopes up. I mean sarah mason was a big time transfer and she only came from Oregon (correct me if I’m wrong). Big time means good player. IMO it could be from some weaker school, but just a fantastic player like kelsey Robinson

  13. Hot March 11, 2014 5:48 pm

When you put out a word like “big time,” it comes with expectations. Like All-American. Or a starter in a Top 10 program. Mason was great, but she wasn’t what I would consider a big-time transfer. She was all-conference HM before she transferred.

  14. Brandon March 11, 2014 5:54 pm

Mason turned out to be big time though. I have a feeling it won’t be a player like we think it will be. And maybe Dave just used the wrong words. But who knows. It may be an AA or a top ten starter

  15. Marv March 11, 2014 6:57 pm

Heather Bown was the highest profile “big time” player to transfer to UH, though she came from Santa Barbara which was somewhat highly regarded during that era. She was expected to be good and turn out to be great. Mason and even Prince turned out to be big time, but was not heralded when they transferred so not a lot of expectations. They came from lowly PAC 10 teams. When Shoji says “big time” transfer, I am expecting an all american type player or an all-XXX player from one of the top conferences (Big Ten or Pac 12).

  16. Cindy Luis March 11, 2014 10:01 pm

What Shoji said was that that transfer was ‘big time’ and that it was going to be big.
but it all hinges on paperwork and I know Wong was looking at the transcripts last week.
when we know, we will know

  17. formerlywarriorfan March 11, 2014 11:22 pm

Cant wait to find out who it is, still hoping she can play outside, I think Jade and Kalei will be just fine in the middle.

As far as Mason, she was a solid player but was no Emily Hartong, Willoughby, Prince, etc, so not really big time though she was very very good so no offense to her.

  18. Hot March 12, 2014 3:40 am

Prince and Mason turned out great for UH but they were not “big-time” transfers. Prince was from Washington State and was coming off a redshirt season. Mason was the leading scorer on her team but she was on a team that was at the bottom of the conference. Besides, she wasn’t even slated to start when she transferred to UH. She got the start because of Hittle’s injury. When you say big time, one would expect she’s be a starter immediately.

  19. LC March 12, 2014 6:18 am

LOL, “but it all hinges on paperwork ” ? Always interesting that as the story unravels there is always a catch 22 involved.

I’m done with it and now agree with Cindy ” when we know, we will know “

  20. Vbfan March 12, 2014 6:25 am

I hope a paperwork snafu doesn’t end up
scuttling the transfer. Hopefully they are just being extra careful after what happened with one of the men’s basketball transfers, Jankovic?

  21. Cindy Luis March 12, 2014 9:01 am

19-20. things do take time and sometimes it’s a holdup with the NCAA clearing house.
there is no snafu. said that they were looking at the transcripts.

  22. Cindy Luis March 12, 2014 9:02 am

    18. i was quoting Shoji re: big-time. not sure what his definition is.. UH wanted Mason originally but they had no scholarship for her. She chose a place that paid her way. She had always hoped to come back.

  23. Brandon. March 12, 2014 9:58 am

    22. And that’s what I’m saying. Shojis definition of big time, may be different than what we think. I’m
Hoping for an AA, or a top ten starter. But we never know. I’m hoping for an OH, so we can redshirt Greeley. Passi is going to play opposite IMO.

  24. LC March 12, 2014 11:08 am

The National Clearing House can sometimes be a problem for transfers if the approval doesn’t come back in time,we see this happen frequently.

  25. Cindy Luis March 12, 2014 11:10 am

    34. true. but they have time to make this happen. like 5 months.

  26. tako March 12, 2014 4:03 pm

Interesting comments regarding possible “big time” transfer. Whoever this individual may be, it sure is QT, and introduces interesting speculation(s). However, whoever it is, it’s a plus factor; more talent spells better options for next season. IMHO, think next year’s team will struggle with finding its identity; so many “unknowns” and question marks regarding sustained quality play. With all of that, don’t know about everyone else, but it’ll be exciting to see what “pops out of the box.”

  27. LC March 13, 2014 9:52 am

I wonder why there has been no new Sand Poll as of this posting ? There has certainly been enough matches played across the country since the preseason poll to warrant one.

  28. Cindy Luis March 13, 2014 9:59 am

poll comes out every two weeks
if you go to the AVCA.org site you can see the schedule
    next one is March 19

  29. LC March 13, 2014 11:06 am

LOL, It was right there at the bottom of the page. That is what happens when I view pages on a phone screen, forget to scroll down.
