  14. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:05 pm

Hawaii playing much better in Set 2. they’ve led by as much as 3 but now 1 12-11. and 14-12.

Olsen with 2 consecutive aces, lead 17-13. T’O BYU.

  17. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:12 pm

for the curious, BYU has lost twice at home. to Lewis 3-2, to Long Beach 3-2
Their road losses are at Pepperdine 3-2, at UCLA 3-0 on April 6, a night after rallying past host UCSB in five.

  18. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:12 pm

UH block and backrow defense has been soo anemic 🙁

  19. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:12 pm

Cougars come back to 17-15. TO UH.

  20. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:15 pm

  22. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:19 pm

Warriors serving for the set 24-19.

  23. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:21 pm

Warriors with their first block ends the set 25-20.

  24. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:21 pm

They finally got a stuff on Sander, love it.

  25. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:22 pm

If UH picks up it’s blocking and can get some more digs they can win this.

  26. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 3:25 pm

agree WF … and also maybe cut down on the service errors a little.

warriors playing very loose … and really, they’ve got nothing to lose. all the pressure is on BYU.

  27. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:25 pm

    Warriors hit 478 for Set 2. 3 aces, 2 SEs. 1 block, 8 digs

  28. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:37 pm

OKay Ramos is struggling in this set, darn.

  29. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:37 pm

Warriors down 7-4 in Set 3. TO UH.

  30. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:38 pm

Passing not that great. Lot of off-plays going down for the Cougars.

  31. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:39 pm

Ace Olsen’s ace brings the Warriors to 7-5.

  32. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:41 pm

BYU coach Chris McGown yellow carded should be a point. when he argues a back-row block. UH ties it temporarily at 7. BYU 2 straight points for a 9-7. lead.

  33. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:45 pm

Warriors tie it at 11. TO BYU.
McGown is the son of former BYUH and BYU men’s coach, and UH volunteer assistant under Mike Wilton, who is an assistant now with the Cougars.

  34. Haushinka April 20, 2013 3:45 pm

    It’s actually on channel 409

  35. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:47 pm

two blocks by UH give the Warriors the 15-12 lead at the TTO.

  36. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:48 pm

    thanks. 409 is right

  37. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:50 pm

no touch overrules a touch call. a bit of a swing. UH up 16-13.

  38. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:51 pm

Okay here comes the home cooking.

  39. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:51 pm

ace by Byu brings the Cougars to 16-15.

  40. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:52 pm

Ever since that questionable call, BYU takes control. 16-16 TO. UH. Would have been 17-12 if Olsen had gotten the touch and Cougars in a bad rotation with their setter in the front row.

  41. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 3:52 pm

hawaii still scrapping … but ramos’ setting location is letting us down in the middle of set 3 …. he’s been hot and cold all match

  42. vballfreak808 April 20, 2013 3:52 pm

That one tip by Olsen did get a touch and that switched momentum a lot. So unfair for Hawaii

  43. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:55 pm

Ramos was really great in set 2 I dont know what has happened.

  44. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 3:56 pm

poor Jace always gets the wrong side of bad calls.

  45. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:56 pm

Olsen gets the Call in to tie at 19.

  46. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 3:58 pm

Serve tough but not in the net. it’s 20-20. kill by Sedore makes it 21-20.

  47. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 3:58 pm

    set 3… so tense

  48. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:01 pm

BYU setter with another overreach, gives UH set point 24-22.

  49. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:01 pm

Wow, ace by Sedore wins it 25-22.

  50. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:01 pm

Wow way to go warriors, getting it done despite some questionable calls against them.

  51. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:02 pm

wow … impressed that hawaii held on there … so many times this season we’ve seen them tense up when it’s been tight at the end of the set …

  52. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:03 pm

averill has been an INCREDIBLE surprise …. we knew he could play a lot of positions. but he and sedore matching the output of byu’s sander/patch has been huge!

  53. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:06 pm

    Set 3, UH hits 333. 2 aces, 3 SEs.
    combined: Sedore 13-3-21, Averill 11-4-19, HOlt 7-1-10, Olsen 6-1-13, West 3-1-7.Ramos 25 assists, Wechsung 12. 4.5 blocks.
I like Wechsung’s setting. much more comfortable setting the middles.
BYU hits 269 in Set 3. 1 ace, 5 SEs.
    Patch 16-4.26, Sander 8-5-19, River 4-0-10, Lavaja 3-0-7, Boyce 1-3-4. 6.5 blocks.

  54. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:10 pm

Joby’s low sets are killing me!!

  55. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:14 pm

BYU up 13-7 in Set 4. dare we say 5?

  56. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:15 pm

okay now they are just making too many mental mistakes.

  57. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:17 pm

    BYU up 16-7.

  58. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:18 pm

Net roll ace makes it 17-7. TO UH.

  59. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:19 pm

byu rolling now …. regroup before this set is over, and just go all out in the 5th

  60. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:21 pm

I don’t like UH’s body language at all in this, instead of going for the kill seems like they are just happy to not have been blown out.

  61. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:22 pm

Well, don’t think you pack it in. You try to build some momentum. But it is 20-10.

  62. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:25 pm

    As for five-setters,
    BYU 4-3 2-2 at home
UH 7-6, 1-3 on the road.

  63. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:25 pm

    Sedore blocked, BYU wins 25-12.

  64. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:31 pm

    two huge mistakes already jeez.

  65. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:33 pm

Warriors up 4-3 in Set 5 on Sedore’s ace. TO BYU.

  66. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:36 pm

Okay the timmer serving sub magic is pau.

  67. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:37 pm

Averill with a kill pulls the Warriors to 7-6

  68. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:37 pm

holy crap what a pancake dig by the byu setter boyce !!

  69. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:38 pm

Sander tip goes wide ties it at 7

  70. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:38 pm

BYU up 8-7 at the changeover.

  71. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:40 pm

hawaii has contained sander at times … but has never been able to stop patch … if hawaii can only just get a key/timely block on patch this set … it could make all the difference …

  72. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:40 pm

not looking good, BYU up 10-8. UH thinks about a TO but no.

  73. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:41 pm

surprised Wade doesn’t call a timeout. at 11-9

  74. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:42 pm

Wow, block by Averill ties it at 11. TO BYU.

  75. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:42 pm

    there’s a block on patch … ties it at 11 !

  76. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:44 pm

    c’mon warriors!

  77. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:45 pm

byu servers are tight … 2 errors in a row on the serve for them now

damn … sedore feels it too … serves way long

  78. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:45 pm

Another BYU SE ties it at 12. you could almost see that service error by Sedore coming 13-12.

  79. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:45 pm

olsen clutch kill on an out of system play 13s

  80. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:46 pm

BYU serving for the match 14-13. TO UH.

  81. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:46 pm

damn the block looked like it could’ve been on byu’s side

  82. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:48 pm

Holy sh*t … what the hell!

  83. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:49 pm

Ramos called for over the net violation. 15-13.
didn’t see it. what do you think?

  84. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:49 pm

Sorry but u dont make that call on match point, home cooking at its best.

  85. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 4:50 pm

not home cooking with the refs are brought in. but agree you don’t call it on match point.

  86. JS April 20, 2013 4:50 pm

Two plays before match point, BYU left side hitter was under the line. Not called.:-[

  87. jmy April 20, 2013 4:51 pm

Was it Ramos over the net or West under? Either way, awful way to end…It’s some consolation that they made BYU look anything like the #1 seed…

  88. Don April 20, 2013 4:52 pm

West was under the net before UH made the kill…R1 overruled and gave BYU the match…

    That’s home cooking for ya…

  89. jmy April 20, 2013 4:52 pm

Would have been nice for UH to win, especially since BYU is in the final four no matter what…

  90. Cubicle1126 April 20, 2013 4:52 pm

what a crappy crappy crappy call by the refs … that is an absolutely disgusting way for the refs to inject themselves into an incredible match … and have a “call” determine the end of the match, instead of just letting them play! an absolute shame that hawaii loses that way.

still – at the end of the day, Hawaii left everything out there on the court … using a lineup they’d never used before, they played their hearts out. proud of the fight in the warriors tonight!

  91. Haushinka April 20, 2013 4:52 pm

Great game. Great season for UH. Next year will be the year. Count on it

  92. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 4:53 pm

thats such a dumb rule, I know its for the safety of the players but BYU got away with at least 3-4 of those the whole match. UGH.

  93. Haushinka April 20, 2013 4:55 pm

Sedore will be a beast next year.

  94. wf April 20, 2013 4:55 pm

good last match for a bad year….but a close loss is still a loss that doesn’t get you any further in playoffs.

  95. vballfreak808 April 20, 2013 4:58 pm

It was a sad way to end this match. I at least wish BYU possibly earned their match point better but what happens, happens.

Looking forward to the Warriors next year!

  96. jmy April 20, 2013 5:00 pm

Are there other matches going on today? Anybody got the scores?

  97. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 5:03 pm

I think Sedore needs to work on consistency and hitting more off speed shots. If he does he could be a POY candidate.

I think to have a really great year Wade needs to bring in a top libero, and a top setter and of course a replacement for JP at OH.

I think UH may have found it’s OPP in Taylor tonight, so might have to bring in another middle.

  98. Ron April 20, 2013 5:06 pm

Hawaii played a great game and deserved better from the refs. Wade has a lot to build on for next year. He needs to figure out sooner who is ready to play at this level. It was a good match to watch regardless of the outcome. BYU may think they won but they had the s–t scared out of them. I hate BYU!

  99. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 5:09 pm

I believe the call was on Ramos for the back-row blocker. didn’t see it but sounded like it was a 50-50 ball according to radio.

  100. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 5:10 pm

be back in a bit with stats and other MSPF quarters.

  101. Warriorfan April 20, 2013 5:11 pm

Then that was a bad call the ball was completely on hawaii’s side when Ramos set it. Ugh.

  102. Down April 20, 2013 5:15 pm

That was match was awesome… besides the end result. Next year seems so promising now.

  103. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 5:16 pm

    Long Beach sweeps Stanford 25-21, 25-17, 30-28
    UCLA sweeps Pepperdine, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18
UCSB at UCI going to 5

  104. Cindy Luis April 20, 2013 5:19 pm

Going to start a new thread, both with other MPSF scores & uh-byu rewind.

  105. volleyball fan April 20, 2013 6:38 pm

I was gone all day and now I read all the blogs. The one surprise for me is that the match went to five. UH Warriors can be proud that they took the BYU Cougars to the limit. Too bad it had to end so anticlimactically and questionably on such a controversial call.
