wahine rewind 11-1 redux

Not sure what happened to the one from last night. Thought it got posted before I left the arena, including what I put up on breaking.

Anyway

As many have observed, the L2 continues to be problematic. Neither Manu-Olevao nor Kastl effective . both 0-2-7  … before Manu-Olevao was 0-0-3 in Set 3. Bringing in Kastl does change the energy, not as dynamic a hitter as Manu-Olevao is when she’s on, but Kastl does bring the heat. As did Hartong last night. Some of her 3-meter attacks were among the hardest I’ve seen anyone hit.

Star definitely was Longo, her digs and serving. And the connection between Uiato and Vorster was much better.

Better use of the DSs IMHO. Hartong wasn’t overused as a passer. and UH did a really nice job targeting UCI’s libero on serve-receive. (aced 5 times)

Would not be surprised to see them use Adolpho more tonight against The Beach. They might even flop the MI & M2.

As most have noted, the Wahine are way too easy to scout. I’d expect a couple new wrinkles against the 49ers. Not sure if the rotation will remain the same. Last night they flipped a few things, including Hartong and Uiato switching places so that Hartong serves ahead of Uiato.

One other thing as noted elsewhere … Taylor serving in Set 3. She has a good serve and, as with Vorster, is something opponents don’t see often.

In Millers article this morning Shoji talks about the mental health of the team, losing confidence and doubting themselves.

Of course I don’t know what they are really feeling but I know a lot of fans who are still down in the dumps.

Not sure if the fans can do anything to help unless we want to all sing Bob Marley’s Every Little Thing Gonna Be All Right like the Red Sox fans did for Shane Victorino during his slump.

Loss of confidence is difficult to overcome for some but kids but for others like Longo and Hartong they seem to handle it well.A win against LBSU and a win at UCSB next week could go a long way in restoring that confidence.

    Redemption is a good feeling.

Haven’t seen the replay yet but when I got home I was told that Leahey was just itching to rip on Longo’s jersey. For those who are not football fans Jim has been bellyaching about the football unis for years throwout little insults that he thinks are funny and cute.

I was told that last night he got in a coupe of zingers and one was saying she looks like a traffic cone.

Why he thinks he is so above everyone boggles my mind.

Wahine won but it felt at SSC as if UCI was not good enough to win, but I feel like they in games and their younger players and new players may some day soon be able to hang with the Wahine. Win was step in right direction, now we need tonight to see real ‘fire in the belly’ from Wahine. Go Wahine!

Bright soccer goalee tops, Oregon football unis and VB libero’s are all part of a new neon color look. As far as Leahy goes, he is traditional and just grouses harmlessly out loud. I thought he was kind to a team that is obviously slumping and certain players who are struggling. He had to grumble about something–however irrelevant. He’s just being Jim Leahy.

JL does have his senior moments like most people his age. He called Nikki, Shirley Taylor last night, his meaning I would guess was on Shirley Temple. Ah!, them old memoirs.

Could someone tell me the name of the music that plays just before the na Wahine starters are announced? It’s that rah-rah piece that accompanies the video of the team. Thank you.
