Wahine open spring practice, answer on North Texas
Team was in the arena for a late practice Monday. 6-8:30-ish. Only stayed for part of it. Had to write a Wahine basketball story as well. They went late because the men had the arena from 3-6.
As mentioned on previous thread, Milan Zarkovic will be running the men’s practice this week with Wade in Europe to recruit. Believe he said the Netherlands.
Hadn’t see Jeff Hall in action but he and Ah Mow-Santos set the two sides during warmup drills. Hall definitely has beach hands, one set particularly ugly and his own side called him on it. Seems that he is a good fit so far. Shoji has said as much.
Anyway, Adolpho will play in the exhibition with Texas Thursday and practiced Monday. Long and Mendoza won’t.
Nikki Taylor is planning to play both indoor and sand this week. She had to take today off because she’ll be either practicing or playing the next six days. She was in the arena early but not participating. As she did last year, she’ll double up on practices Tuesday. first indoor then sand.
Lsat week someone mentioned North Texas playing UH this week after playing HPU and Chaminade. Reason it’s not on UH schedule is because it will be a scrimmage.
Players I spoke with said they’re looking forward to playing Texas. Match is Thursday, 7 p.m.
That’s interesting about Wade being in the Netherlands. I hope he is visiting a Umlauft type recruit, and that he gets him for next year. I am actually glad UH is currently ranked number 1, because he can tell that to the recruit.
Cindy, this mornings article says sand matches at 5pm Wednesday, OC16 schedule has it at 7pm for Wednesday and Sunday. Could you clarify.
Today’s article actually says that Wednesday’s sand match will start at 1:30, with TV set for 5:00. UH’s hawaiiathletics.com’s 3/15/15 recap of last weekend’s sand matches in Chula Vista says that the start time is 5:00; but the SVB schedule page now says 4:00.
Here’s a little of what Amy Neal, Texas Libero/OH, wrote about a day in Hawaii (March 16, 2015). After a full day of the beach and canoe riding, they had dinner at the Outrigger. “After that, we got ready for dinner and we were so hungry! We got to eat at the restaurant at the Outrigger and I ate four plates of food—pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, mashed potatoes, vegetables, prime rib, chicken, rice, salad, fish and more. They also had some desserts that we had never heard of, like dobash cake. Kat was making fun of us all trying to say the names of them. It was all so good!” It sounds like they’re having fun. And that girl can eat!
Texas sure got some height on their team.
If both Maglio and Magill are playing, hopefully Shoji gives Maglio more playing time than bench time.
1. would think if they’re spending the money to recruit in Europe, player must be special.
2. times I were given came from UH which is what I had to go with.
Of course, that was yesterday when I was told 5 p.m. for the top two pairs. but event starting at 1:30. yesterday’s schedule said 5. Today it says 4.
6. it’s an exhibition. Everyone should get playing time.
