Day 1: Wahine open practice

First workout started at 630

The 2 hours went very quickly. Opened with drills then broke into 3 courts by position. Middles, OHs and DS. Setters Higgins and Koelsch alternated setting the OHs and MBs.

Second practice this afternoon Shoji said with so many returnees that they’ll be able to get into practice mode.

Thanks Cindy cant wait to hear the updates in camp. On another note I like that 2017 commit Hawaii has, she reminds me of Tara Hittle. If things go as planned she’ll work harder on her jump so she can be a threat when she gets to Hawaii.

    1. thanks.
    2. I would think the same can be said about any 2017 recruit. They all have two years to improve.

i’m slightly mildly optimistic about this season. 😀

I think this team will be much improved over last year’s, but next year’s is a legitimate final four contender (barring injury, transfers out, academic ineligibility, etc.). Will be a veteran team with size and experience. Will be interesting to see how Shoji develops and manages the team’s depth this year.

    4. I think you should be more than mildly optimistic. They should be improved from last year.

All players came back in very good shape. Huff has improved her arm swing and is really bombing from the outside.
they had the middles used as secondary setters during the afternoon and all 3 have pretty good hands. Maglio even had a dump shot.

Cindy, how are the primary setters looking? Can you tell if passing has improved? May be too early to tell.

Casey and Natasha look taller than 6′ 3 and 6′ 5 to me.

By the way congrats to Taylor Averill added to the US world cup roster.

    8. What is the source of your information on Taylor Averill added to the US World Cup Roster? USA Volleyball website has no mention of any roster and even the women who will play in the World Cup later this month hasn’t had its final 14 roster determined yet, so how could the men have their roster yet? Perhaps you really meant the USA series with Brazil later this month. Please clarify. Thanks.

    7. it’s just practice and reps. but I do think both will be better this season.

    10. thanks for the link USAV had said that much of the Pan Am roster would also be considered for World Cup. Passing should be so much better for him to be utilized. Speraw very much into the youth movement.

I’m really excited for Averill, this is his chance to make a case for Rio. Will be tough, but he can do it.

Any word on Koelsch’s hip/thigh? Saw some pics – her left side was wrapped?

  14. Cindy Luis August 11, 2015 6:51 am

    12. may be tough to crack the Rio lineup but you never know.

    13. Koelsch is fine. it was precautionary and isn’t taped this morning. Although they may see how she feels this afternoon.
