Wahine home schedule update

Had earlier posted this with some comments about the Big West schedule being Fri-Sat and how unfair it was to Hawaii that the Wahine would play back-to-back and the opponent’s only match of the week would be Hawaii. And figured that it would be retweaked to the traditional Thur-Sat or Fri-Sun.

Apparently not.

With the odd number of Big West teams (departure of Pacific makes it 9) the Big West needed a ‘lone wolf.’ Hawaii agreed to it. There is potential to increase attendance with Fri-Sat. That may be the deciding factor.

August-

30 Texas
31 UTEP

Sept-

1 San Diego

5 NMSU
6 Santa Clara

12 Portland St
13 Northwestern
14 Arizona

this is where the Wichita State tourney goes

28 CS Fullerton

October-

18 Alumni

November-

Any idea who else will be at the Shocker tourney?
I am hoping teams like Illinois, Kansas/K state, Louisvile or Iowa St.

  2. Cindy Luis April 24, 2013 10:15 pm

Don’t know. WSU hasn’t released a schedule. But thinking it has to be a decent field if UH will travel to compete.

  3. mattiecakes April 25, 2013 3:27 am

Dang, I’m 5.5 hrs from Wichita in NE! I wish they would’ve came to play Nebraska instead!

  4. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 6:25 am

According to Ann Miller, the other 2 teams in the WSU tournament are, Creighton and Washington. Creighton was ranked 23 last year, and we all know what Washington did to the Wahines.

  5. LC April 25, 2013 6:34 am

What Washington did to the Wahine ? I remember a very close match that could have gone the other way.

Why it didn’t go the other way is another debate.

  6. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 7:04 am

LC, all I meant by that was, Washington beat the Wahines last year, ending their season.

  7. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 8:27 am

Interesting that Washington would travel to WSU.

  8. volleyball fan April 25, 2013 8:43 am

On the road, how is Hawaii going to play at Northridge and UC Davis on consecutive days? (I see that the two teams are paired up to play against Hawaii on consecutive days, Nov. 22-23.) The distance between the two universities is over 400 miles! That’s a lot of travel for one day and then to play the same evening, even if they fly.

  9. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 8:46 am

VBF, this is the home schedule only. not the compete home-away schedule

  10. kaleiboy April 25, 2013 8:59 am

There’s still a conflict on the 28SEP…FB-Fresno State and VB-CS Fullerton

  11. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 9:32 am

#6, Why Cindy, you do not believe what Ann Miller wrote?

  12. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 9:36 am

    10. never said I didn’t believe her. said it was interesting that UW was traveling there since they were scheduled to host their own tournament around that time.
    9. KB, it is a tentative schedule. was just pointing out the reasoning behind Fri-Sat. instead of Thur-Sat.

  13. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 9:39 am

Cindy, could it be that Jane Croson could be deciding between returning as a Wahine, or turning professional in Beach/Sand Volleyball, instead of transferring?

  14. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 9:41 am

Just saying, since Jane has been keeping close tabs on her former pairs partner, Summer Ross, who I believe has turned professional.

  15. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 9:41 am

DF, you tell me since you posted on another thread that she wasn’t transferring, that it was between her staying or turning pro.
when the rumor first came out weeks ago I commented that she could also be thinking of going pro.
    it is an option.

  16. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:08 am

Sorry, Cindy, did not see your comment about her maybe turning pro, as an option, on an earlier thread.

  17. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:15 am

Cindy, did you read Jane Croson’s comment, in her Facebook page and in Ann Miller’s column, “aw, when volleyball was care free and fun, not a job.” This comment speaks volumes about Jane Croson’s personality, which is, being a care free and fun loving girl, never taking things to seriously. Her coaches and team mates need to understand this, about Jane Croson, and just let her be who she is. Especially, when it comes to volleyball, cause this will bring out the BEST in Jane Croson.

  18. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:20 am

In otherwards, do not try to make Jane be what you want her to be. Just let her be her, that fun loving, carefree person. It will bring out the best in her. Hope her coaches and team mates, come to understand this. Give Jane some slack, and you will see some amazing things from her.

  19. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:30 am

First Cindy says, it is not academics, then Dave Shoji says, it is. So which is it? If people, namely coaches, keep putting restrictions on Jane Croson, the people of Hawaii will never see the true Jane Croson, and see the amazing things she can do on a Volleyball court. Be it Indoors, or Sand/Beach.

  20. LC April 25, 2013 10:31 am

Per Dave being absent from recent road trips was so she could concentrate on academics. If you are having problems at UH how do you get accepted at Arizona,I doubt that they have lower standards than UH.

  21. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:41 am

LC, have you not heard the saying, “Arizona schools are considered, party schools.” 🙂

  22. mauna April 25, 2013 10:43 am

    18. & 19. FWIW, it is not academics, why, because I KNOW.

  23. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:48 am

Mauna, why am I not surprised. That saying, by the coaches, about academics being the reason, should be put on speed copy. 🙂

  24. dedicatedfan April 25, 2013 10:51 am

Mauna, more of the some old lame things being said by the Athletic Department and Upper Campus, included. Do they think the people of Hawaii are stupid or something.

  25. mauna April 25, 2013 11:04 am

Can’t you figure it out? The media asked a direct question and they had to give them an answer. This is a PRIVATE matter and NO ONE needs to know about it.

  26. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 1:04 pm

    21. thank you Mauna. She is not on academic probation, which was my point. Now if she is slipping this semester she won’t be on probation until after final grades, The athletic department has people in place who monitor study hall as well as classroom progress so they could have required a student to remain in class and not travel.
Agree, it is a private matter.
    16. And no, i do not follow athletes while they are have eligibility either on facebook or twitter.

  27. volleyball fan April 25, 2013 2:27 pm

Cindy, I simply inferred from the home schedule that Hawaii will have to play Northridge and Davis based on the pairings. I could be wrong.

  28. volleyball fan April 25, 2013 2:49 pm

I guess I didn’t make myself clear enough. Based on the pairings I saw on the home schedule, I inferred that the same pairings will come into play on the road. That’s what I originally meant. I knew that the schedule you presented was the home schedule. Sorry I didn’t make myself clear enough.

  29. setaone April 25, 2013 3:05 pm

    looking pretty obvious volleyball fan=dedicatedfan….sigh.

  30. Cindy Luis April 25, 2013 3:20 pm

27 Maybe but Hawaii’s ‘lone wolf’ status does affect things. UH won’t play back-to-back on the road, at least not the CSUN-UCD series.that travel not as bad as when UH had to play at LaTech and then NMSU.
CSUN, fly intoLA. UCD. Fly into Sacramento

  31. volleyball fan April 25, 2013 3:36 pm

setaone, I am not dedicatedfan at all. You got that wrong and Cindy can verify that for you.

  32. volleyball fan April 25, 2013 6:04 pm

Well, where is the blog for the latest MPSF semifinals results? Both Long Beach and BYU prevailed in five-game thrillers. BYU was down 2-0 and looked practically beat and then they made a fiery comeback. Sanders and Patch came back to life dispatching UCLA. Long Beach was ahead 14-10 on the fifth set but Irfvine scored four straight points to extend the set until finally Long Beach behind Hawaii’s Taylor Crabb along with Taylor Gregory blocked Irvine for the final point. Now BYU will face Long Beach with one major Hawaii player on each side, Jaylen Reyes vs. Taylor Crabb. Should be an interesting match. I’m glad I got to watch the BYU match and will look forward to watching the Saturday match on live stream at 3 PM Hawaii time. Since we don’t have Hawaii to watch, I’ll take any other teams to watch. They did give credit to UH for taking BYU to the limit and almost beating them. As I said, I am a volleyball fan first and foremost, I just love to watch the game. Next year Hawaii gets to play BYU on home court and that will be quite the challenge. Looking forward to that, too.

  33. Warriorfan April 25, 2013 7:52 pm

Glad UH can get revenge on UW on a neutral court now. I was hoping for one of those midwest teams with inflated RPI’s though. UW’s rpi is always pretty low for a top team.

  34. jmy April 25, 2013 7:58 pm

Looks like BYU & Beach are both in the Final Four…If Beach wins the MPSF final, BYU gets the at-large…If BYU wins, I don’t think any other team but Beach would get the at-large…The only question now is which team will win the NCAA championship…

  35. Warriorfan April 25, 2013 7:59 pm

    31. Now that UH is done I could care less about the MPSF playoffs.

  36. jmy April 25, 2013 7:59 pm

From the stats, it looks like Sander is coming down to earth & Beach just may be peaking at the right time…

  37. jmy April 25, 2013 8:00 pm

34, I don’t really care either, but vb is the only sport I follow & right now this is all there is…

  38. vballfreak808 April 25, 2013 8:58 pm

    33. UC Irvine is still in the running for the at-large bid but I see it most likely going to Long Beach State. That’s too bad for UC Irvine, Tillie has been injured numerous times throughout the season which made them change their lineup a lot.

  39. Warriorfan April 25, 2013 9:25 pm

Too bad for Irvine if they don’t get chosen they have a 3-1 record against the beach this season but this loss is at the worst time.

Once they lose Tillie it’s all downhill for Irvine IMO, without Speraw and Tillie, I see them being middle of the pack or lower in the mpsf again.

  40. mainlandgal April 26, 2013 11:43 am

#17 dedicatedfan: if Croson’s comment, “aw, when volleyball was care free and fun, not a job.” is what she wants volleyball to be at this time in her life, then D-1 College volleyball may not be the forum for her any longer. And, if she’s deciding whether or not to “go pro” I hope she has someone who is guiding her and being honest with her. Going pro is a lot of work and most definitely, a “job”. It doesn’t matter how you look at it, those are the facts!

  41. Alohilani April 26, 2013 12:58 pm

Here’s a question about Marks and I hope people don’t bite my head off. No one has said it but he might have made a little difference (not much) in the BYU game but the fact of the matter is Marks did not play all that well this year. He struggled a lot. Charlie did not start him every game. So what makes the pros think he is going to do all that well in the pros? I am just asking because Manti Teo has one bad game at the end of the season and he goes from the first to second round in the draft. I know football is a lot different but just asking whether the pros are looking at Marks’ career in the past and think he is worth the money. He really did not have that great a year last year either. Hunt carried the team most of the year. No angry responses please. Just asking.

  42. Cindy Luis April 26, 2013 1:15 pm

    40. I hope Croson’s other comment that ran in the paper about not having made a decision about her future yet will put things to rest for a while, until she makes a decision.

  43. setaone April 26, 2013 1:58 pm

    42. Yes. Croson may be an adult by the letter of the law, but thinking back to when I was 19/20 years old, I was still a child.

  44. mainlandgal April 26, 2013 3:53 pm

#43 setaone: Very true, very true. I do hope that she (Croson) has adult guidance in making her decision. Either way she decides to go, it’s not only a big decision, but a big step towards her future.

  45. Cubicle1126 April 27, 2013 7:09 pm

true mainlandgal … although, it’s also possible that Croson is handling this issue in a much more mature way than some of the posters (and so-called fans) here …

  46. Purple&Gold April 28, 2013 6:15 pm

    (a.k.a. Benita Butrell)

” ’cause I’m not one to gossip, but..”

UW, for those who haven’t figured it out yet, is UH’s current/congruent nemesis a la LBSU (90s)..

They’re 4-8 all-time vs. the Wahine (dating back to 1992 with their very first win). That record improves to 5-8, all-time, in latter 2013 September.

But you didn’t hear it from me, ” ’cause I aint one to gossip! “

  47. Purple&Green April 28, 2013 6:26 pm

The Wahine will beat Texas, San Diego, UCLA, Creighton, LBSU@home; they’ll lose to UW@Wichita State and LBSU@Long Beach.

Part of UW’s “victory tour” across Europe this 2013 summer is NOT only to have a good time promoting team chemisty (although great things in and of themselves). MB ‘Someone’, I can say not Chetnik, is coming home with the team to the Great PNW..

    ‘Someone’ doesn’t mind the rain–AS I DO–as a sedative and damper upon life. 😉

But you didn’t hear it from me, ” ’cause I aint one to gossip!! ”
    😉
