So cute Shoji’s 2 little grandkids showed up and ran out on the court to hug him Very sweet Sorry I missed the photo op

Aw…great…..this will hasten Dave’s desire to retire. Every hug by his grand kids will make it harder for Dave to come back… 🙁

Will want to spend more time with those cuties.

    Is that Coach Pesto?

  4. Bozo November 30, 2016 3:51 pm

Whats the scoop on who televises Friday and Saturday. OCSports or ESPN?
Also, not sure why we keep televising our “encore” games on ÔC16 …
great scouting material for our first round opponents.

    Send more pics Cindy..

THANK YOU OC16! You are No Ka Oi!
Minnesota fans found out we will televise our match. Their stations doesn’t even do that for them back there during regular and postseason. Hawaii is truly blessed!! ” GO Rainbows!”

Ditto from me Bleachercoach, I love this team, win or lose, for all of the adversity it has overcome. I love this fan base because we never give up hope. And I especially love Dave for what he has done for volleyball and the State of Hawaii.

So over how many days is this 1st/2nd round? If we win first round, is the 2nd game played the very next day? Like saturday? Or sunday or monday? Any time off in between games?

  9. MeKanaka November 30, 2016 7:47 pm

Review of UH Athletics website for TV/streaming coverage of this game shows TBD status. I know Cindy identified earlier that OC Sports crew was sent. Asked an Oceanic TWC rep about this for confirmation and he checked and said there was nothing on the schedule for the game. Is this still be negotiated? Comments?

A couple of threads ago, after the NCAA pairings were unveiled, someone asked if there were any venues fans could go to in order to watch the first round match with a group to cheer together. Cindy replied that the mid-day time was limiting, but I for one have have Friday off and would love to join fellow fans. And if the Wahine are able to survive USC, surely there would be LOTS of fans who could join group viewing events on Saturday. You’d think the UH athletics department would organize things like that, wouldn’t you?

  11. Volleyman November 30, 2016 9:54 pm

It looks as though Alyse Ford may be out tomorrow as she suffered an injury previously. The Wahine just need to serve tough to get USC out of system so they won’t be able to run their quick offense.

  12. Big Island VB Fan November 30, 2016 9:59 pm

If Hawaii and Minnesota survive to the second round, I hope that the Big Ten will broadcast the match and not OC Sports so that I’ll be able to watch it live. OC Sports excluded me permanently since I don’t have cable on the Big Island. They may have the best commentators but they are sure stingy and mean to our own islands who lack cable. I am so mad at OC Sports and hope they get preempted by the Big 10 for the Saturday match.

  13. Bleachercoach November 30, 2016 10:04 pm

10…actually there is no men’s or women’s basketball and I actually feel that Saturday match when we advance to play most likely, Minnesota, the STAN would be a great place to gather to watch the rematch of last years Regional Final .Hey $10 for the lower bowl and $15 to watch from the upper section(remember screen is better from on top)…snack bars opened for food, etc…more money for athletic dept….I am sure if this was organized tomorrow…and if Hawaii wins Friday…the venue would open Saturday for all RAINBOW FANS….I can imagine there is more organization to this but that would be fun….Plus, our Women deserve it!!!!

  14. MeKanaka November 30, 2016 11:14 pm

10- Great idea. If they can make that happen, I’ll be there.

  15. Cindy Luis December 1, 2016 6:21 am

    2. he sees them enough. no need to hasten his retirement.
    3. yes, entire staff is here including fitness trainer Tony
    4. do you think opponents are watching OC16? they have their own film
    8. in this subregional, matches are Friday-Saturday Other places it starts today. so Thursday-Friday.
    Regionals next week are Thursday-Saturday.

  16. Cindy Luis December 1, 2016 6:23 am

    9. i don’t understand. their crew got in last night. maybe they forgot to tell whoever you spoke with

  17. Cindy Luis December 1, 2016 6:26 am

    12. don’t know what TV will carry Saturday should both advance. ESPN has first rights. but it could be dumped onto ESPN3 which is only online.

    13. Arena was kept available in case volleyball hosted.
Call the Athletic Department and suggest it.

I just finished rewatching the UH-Minnesota match in the Regional Finals last year. Annie Mitchem will be a huge difference-maker if she plays the way she has for most of the season. IMO, Kahakai was better than the Gopher libero. The combo of Magill and Maglio was better than the Maglio/Burns combo this season. Whether it’s Burns or Castillo, that second middle position just hasn’t been a factor all season long.

Kendra Koelsch was a spark for the Wahine last year vs. Minnesota whenever she was brought in. She stopped a few attacks, had seven assists on 11 attempts, and had an impressive kill. I hope Shoji doesn’t hesitate to use her as a front row setter.

18, Watching the Purdue match… gophers don’t take chances on serving.. they just keep it in. We should have a notch up in this area if we serve tough. Thoughts?
