Vorster to transfer after graduating

Jade Vorster will be transferring after graduating with her chemistry degree this May.

The 6-4 middle blocker is eligible to play for Liberty as a graduate student. It’s a Christian college in Virginia. The Flames are DI, play in the Big South.

It gives her a chance to be with her younger sister who will be a freshman at Liberty in the fall and be closer closer to her family in Florida and Virginia, where she was born.  I believe both she and her sister are planning to play for Liberty.

She’s a very impressive young lady. Graduated high school early, came here in spring of what would have been her senior year. But returned to be the class salutatorian. Will graduate with honors from UH in 3 1/2 yearsm not easy to do with a science degree with all her required labs. and add the commitment to playing very high level volleyball.

A very sweet young woman. enjoyed getting to know her family. ended up that her mom and I had a mutual acquaintance from our time on Guam, 20 years apart. it is a small world.

I always find it sad when players don’t stay and get their senior night recognition. no one does it like Hawaii.

Good luck to you, Jade. You grew a lot as a volleyball player in your short time here. I’ll miss that great smile and attitude of yours.

this is part of the news release from UH

“Playing for the Rainbow Wahine, Coach Shoji and the state of Hawai‘i has been an unforgettable experience,” said Vorster. “I will be graduating from UH this spring and plan to pursue a graduate degree in public health at Liberty University next fall. My younger sister will be attending Liberty as well and I look forward to spending time with her and my grandparents who live in the area. I am proud to say I will be an alumna of the University of Hawai‘i.”

“We wish Jade the best of luck,” said Shoji. “She has been a major contributor these past two years but we understand her academic situation. It’s best for her to pursue something she’s really passionate about plus she’ll get a chance to play with her sister and be closer to family.”

Vorster, who will graduate from UH with a degree in chemistry, redshirted for the ‘Bows in 2011 and was a force in the middle the last two seasons. The Salem, Virginia native was named all-Big West as a freshman and earned honorable mention honors this past season. She started every game for the Rainbow Wahine over the past two seasons.

  3. Setaone March 20, 2014 6:09 am

Wow. Best of luck to her.

I will miss watching her play.

Maybe Liberty will appear on the 2015 schedule?

  4. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 6:23 am

    3. you never know about scheduling.
Younger sister is a 6-2 middle, believe the two played varsity together at Timber Creek for a season, Jade’s senior year, Sirena’s freshman year.

  5. Vee March 20, 2014 6:25 am

Best wishes, Jade! Thank you for playing for Hawaii. Loved watching you do your stuff in the middle. Sorry we won’t have the chance to give you your well deserved Senior Sendoff.

  6. Brandon. March 20, 2014 6:59 am

Best of luck to jade! I’m going to miss see if her playing as a wahine. He energy on the court was always so amazing. She was never down and always made sure the team wasn’t either.

  7. Cubicle1126 March 20, 2014 7:19 am

Good luck, Jade. And thank you for all that you gave to the team and the fans!

  8. Brandon. March 20, 2014 7:25 am

Now excited for the transfers name! 🙂

  9. po'okela March 20, 2014 7:31 am

    nailed it 😉

  10. Brandon March 20, 2014 7:57 am

UH will miss jades personality the most. Thats what she brought to the court. She was an amazing player, but I honestly think that her upbeat nature and always pushing the team when theyre down, is what made her truly special. I dont recall jade ever getting mad on the court or even sad. She was like a stephanie Brandt. Always bubbly.

  11. Ki March 20, 2014 8:11 am

That explains why Jade wasn’t playing Sand volleyball this spring, and why there was no spring tournaments; No Middles to play with.

  12. Brandon March 20, 2014 8:21 am

    11. There was actually no spring tournament because jade was the only one who could play. I believe dave said that. This was probably before jade decided to transfer and before dave got the trasnfer

  13. nana kokolele March 20, 2014 8:29 am

    Good Luck Jade.

  14. Warrior Dave March 20, 2014 8:34 am

I am so bummed as I really like Jade. Sat next to her family two years ago and got to know her Dad. It will be a big loss to the Wahine this year. Especially with Taylor Higgins setting. Oh well, such is life. Good luck Jade in all your future endeavors!!

  15. FormerlyWarriorfan March 20, 2014 8:37 am

This is a huge bummer to me , Jade was on pace to shatter the career hitting percentage and would be even better with Higgins. The middle transfer better be good!!

  16. mei mei March 20, 2014 9:36 am

Best wishes Jade, we will miss you heaps!!!

  17. Brandon March 20, 2014 9:40 am

If jade did play four years, is there a certain ammount of kills per set you have to average to qualify for the hitting percentage record. I know for the ncaa its 3 I think, (maybe less). Any ideas cindy?

  18. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 9:45 am

    11. Thought I explained this weeks ago.
The main reason there was no sand tournament was because they only had one middle. Which was Vorster, who is still here in school. They didn’t know when they’d get Adolpho back because of her commitment to basketball. She and the Wahine currently are in the WNIT
They also have to take into account when teams can come out here, usually during spring break, and also have to work around the UH sand schedule.
    .
Vorster didn’t play sand last year so her not playing sand this year should have been no big surprise.

  19. vballfreak808 March 20, 2014 9:46 am

Good luck to Jade, she will be missed. Will she have two years left since she would be a redshirt junior the upcoming season or will she only play one season at Liberty?

  20. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 9:47 am

    10. i don’t know when Vorster decided to transfer
but ‘not getting a transfer’ would have no bearing on the spring tournament since the player in question isn’t enrolled this semester.

  21. Brandon March 20, 2014 9:49 am

    20. I know. I was just saying that dave said there was no spring tournament before all this news.

  22. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 9:49 am

    19. she has 2 years of eligibility. I’m unclear on how it works with grad students. I’ve only known grad students who have played 1 year, but those were ones who were in their last year of eligibility.

  23. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 9:56 am

    9. or you put out the last of 3-4 theories and yours was correct. 😉

  24. Brandon March 20, 2014 10:27 am

Ugh im so anxious to see who the recruit is! With Vorster leaving we will need a star to step up to take her place. Lets hope this trasnfer can make hawaii a force in the middle

  25. Kazu March 20, 2014 11:04 am

This is not what i wanted to see. Good luck Jade. You will not be forgotten.

  26. formerlywarriorfan March 20, 2014 11:08 am

    25. Agreed, she and Nikki are the two players (starters) I did not want to leave, this sucks. But I do wish her well.

  27. WhyWhat March 20, 2014 11:50 am

Which came first, the transfer in or the transfer out?

  28. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 11:57 am

does it matter? but i guess knowing Vorster would be leaving would open up a scholarship …

  29. ALLAN March 20, 2014 12:06 pm

TOO BAD HER SISTER DIDN’T COME HERE.

  30. WhyWhat March 20, 2014 12:11 pm

No, its just a question Cindy.

  31. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 12:13 pm

sorry, have had that cold that’s been going around. Very grumpy. too much sun yesterday and didn’t sleep well.

  32. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 12:16 pm

    29. don’t think her sister was ever on the radar. 6-2 has been an OH, moved to MB. when she grew a couple of inches. Jade said she didn’t know what position her sister would play in college.

  33. haleiwacrossfitter March 20, 2014 12:42 pm

Ok, I know if Mitchem comes here it would be 2015…but maybe, and this is a HUGE maybe, she did enough to get here this up coming year? This could be why this transfer is on no one’s radar anywhere. I know it’s probably, and most likely, not her, but no harm in throwing out her name again.

  34. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 12:44 pm

    33. to be honest, I don’t know who it is. your scenario had crossed my mind

  35. Menehune March 20, 2014 12:46 pm

What a bummer. “Sweetness” is how I would describe Jade. Loved watching her reaction whenever she made a solo block. Mahalo for your two years of contribution, Jade, and tell your new coach to schedule a game with the Wahine.

  36. uhfan March 20, 2014 12:54 pm

    33. Mitchem was an AA last year so not her either

  37. formerlywarriorfan March 20, 2014 12:57 pm

I would be extremely happy if its Annie Mitchem. Three seasons of her would be so much better than just two.

.36 junior college all american doesn’t count!

  38. Brandon. March 20, 2014 12:58 pm

    33. LC said that Persoanlly they don’t think it’s big time. And we all know mitchem is so it’s probably not her.

  39. yume March 20, 2014 12:58 pm

Thank you and good luck Jade! What I’ll remember most is when you put down the final kill to punctuate the win over Texas and your celebration when you solo blocked Bailey Webster.

  40. Brandon. March 20, 2014 12:59 pm

But that’s assuming lc knows, but I take their word for it.

  41. formerlywarriorfan March 20, 2014 1:00 pm

.38 If LC really knew about it, it would already be up in her/his diggingnawahine twitter and blog, to be honest.

  42. Pat March 20, 2014 1:15 pm

You will be missed Jade. I loved watching you and your arm “pump” when it went your way. You are amazing to finish school like you did all while being a Wahine. You will be missed next season.

  43. Brandon. March 20, 2014 1:19 pm

    41. Maybe they wanna repsect Dave and Cindy? Dave shoji knows big time doesn’t mean AA. Look at burgess, kan, Nikki Taylor, britney Howard. All not AA but I assure you they’re all big time. The player may still be a stud. We just have to wait and see

  44. yume March 20, 2014 4:08 pm

The announcement by Shoji of the transfer is most likely when UH starts classes on March 31.

  45. Cindy Luis March 20, 2014 5:28 pm

    44. not sure why you’d say that. not like UH is on quarter system.
as i said, Shoji said Thursday. things happen

  46. yume March 20, 2014 6:11 pm

you’re right, let me withdraw that, thinking too much into it, like after xmas/ny break.

  47. 'ohanaInBellingham March 21, 2014 7:25 am

    “Jade, Jade
    Made the grade.
    Set her high
    Say bye-bye”

is what we would chant many times as we watched, on tv, Jade connect with authority on those high sets. Hearing of her departure is bittersweet for us. It seemed to us that she was often by herself on the sidelines, and that broke our hearts for she seemed to…deserve better. I hope we were wrong in this observation. We’re happy that she fulfilled her dream of playing for Na Wahine and, now, to move on to fulfill her next dream. Mahalo for all you did for us – seen and unseen.

We set her high atop a pedestal, and now we say bye-b…aloha!

  48. PBnJz March 21, 2014 12:19 pm

I too am super bummed to hear of Jade’s departure…so much fun to watch with her youthful exuberance over a kill or block! Has a great head on her shoulders and big heart. May the Vors’ be with Liberty (in duplicate)! Best wishes Jade…we’ll miss you!
