cl…whats the hang up on the transfer?

  2. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 6:34 pm

when I talk to her I will post it.

  3. Brandon. March 22, 2014 6:43 pm

So we now know who the transfer is? Can you give us your opinion on her. Is she big time? Do you think she will make an impact?

  4. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 6:46 pm

I do know who it is. Haven’t spoken to her yet. Never saw her play but I do think she’ll be able to play right away and have an impact.

  5. Brandon. March 22, 2014 6:50 pm

Great to know! Excited to fine out who it is!

  6. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 7:49 pm

Congrats to Tiegs and Cook. 16-2 record is very impressive especially since they have only lost to USC’s and Pepp’s number one pairs. I truly believe that if they peak at the end they will win the AVCA pair national championship.

Kind of bummed that Long/Longo and Speiler/Taylor didn’t place further today.

  7. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 7:50 pm

    4. That should rule out Olivia Magill.
Can you say if she is gonna be a sophomore or junior?

  8. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 8:09 pm

    6. Spieler-Taylor lost in the round of 16 in 3 to a very good Ettinger-Russ team. It was 18-16 in the third, could have gone either way.
Long-Longo will have their troubles with taller teams. their match was tight as well, 22-20, 21-18

    7. junior and accepted by UH Friday. Not sure if she’ll enroll for summer. Will ask when I speak with her.

  9. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 8:14 pm

BTW, Shoji has gone to LA to scout at the qualifier at the LA Convention Center. Wong is flying out tonight to join him.

  10. Brandon. March 22, 2014 8:18 pm

How many scholorships does UH have to give again? Is it 12 or 14?

  11. Brandon. March 22, 2014 8:20 pm

And good luck to wong and shoji! Hopefully they can recruit some great players!

  12. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 8:24 pm

Thanks for the tidbits Cindy, can’t wait to read who she is. I am hoping it is Meg Haggerty or Melanie Wade.

re:10. Seriously you don’t know how many scholarships women’s volleyball gives out???? It is 12.

  13. Brandon. March 22, 2014 8:25 pm

    12. never really started to really FOLLOW the sport till last year. Before I was just a wahine fan and watched their games. I apologize.

  14. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 8:30 pm

Women’s indoor has 12. Many coaches have been pushing for 13 for a number of years which likely would go to a libero. Sand gives 5, which can be split up; sport maxes out at 6 next season. UH among the few that fully funds sand.
as for recruiting, they are looking at 2015 and later.

  15. Brandon. March 22, 2014 8:32 pm

Thanks for clearing that up Cindy! Sorry for all the questions! While I’m not new to UH volleyball, I am
New to really following the sport. Still don’t know all the rules.

  16. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 8:36 pm

I thought UH was mostly done for 2015 with Castillo, Granato and hopefully Mitchem 🙂 but maybe they are looking for walk ons and sand players.

For 2016, definitely hope they are after star setter Noreen Iosia and 6’4 OPP and beach volleyball star, Kathryn Plummer.

  17. Brandon. March 22, 2014 8:42 pm

Also don’t think it’s Melanie. Cindy said she hasn’t seen her play, and Melanie did play in the ncaa match against Hawaii.

  18. mauna March 22, 2014 9:05 pm

Aiyana Whitney makes sense, played middle last year and Rose signed Washington, Reed and Thielen for 2014. Maybe Jace and Ali gave her the good word.

  19. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 9:09 pm

    18. That’s who I hope, because Whitney can play opposite and put up a huge wall at 6′ 5 and not to get gossipy but her boyfriend plays for PSU and was a UH recruit as well just like Jace Olsen but I would be ecstatic with Meg Haggerty too, She was benched end of last year for Nebraska, but I think she is talented and if she comes, her talented younger sisters would probably follow.

I wouldnt be surprised if we are way off and it’s someone on no ones radar though.

  20. Brandon. March 22, 2014 9:15 pm

Wait so whitney really did move to middle? I really hope it’s her. I could see why she would wanna transfer with the MONSTER class penn state has coming in. I’m so excited to fine out who it is

  21. mauna March 22, 2014 9:16 pm

If it is Whitney, someone saw her at UH or maybe even Queens. Can’t hide, not too many 6’5 girls around that people wouldn’t notice.

  22. Brandon. March 22, 2014 9:18 pm

    21. Someone did see her? Or are you saying someone would see her?

  23. mauna March 22, 2014 9:20 pm

    would

  24. Brandon. March 22, 2014 9:22 pm

Oh ok. Well I truly do hope it’s whitney, but then again I doubt it. I’ll honestly be happy with any girl that can make an impact at MB. The wait is killing me

  25. vballfreak808 March 22, 2014 9:56 pm

Thanks for the update about the transfer Cindy! It’ll be interesting if this transfer is someone none of us named.

  26. Brandon. March 22, 2014 10:01 pm

Plus whitney did play one year with longo. So that’s another connection

  27. haleiwacrossfitter March 22, 2014 10:18 pm

hmmm, this is getting interesting. So Cindy, when do you anticipate speaking with her and letting us know who she is?

  28. haleiwacrossfitter March 22, 2014 10:40 pm

I would be shocked if it was Meghan Haggerty, but would be really, really happy if it was her. It’s interesting because I think her sister, Maddie is a 2014 recruit, but she is not on the 2014 roster for Nebraska, but Meghan is. I mean thinks could always change, it’s not like announcing the 2014 roster solidifies the roster this early. But Meghan would be a great addition to our team for sure.

I would be happy with Aiyanna Whitney as well, just because of her potential. I have not seen her play MB, so I don’t know much about what she can do there, but you can’t teach height and she was one of the top recruits in the country during her year and is an incredible OH. I just don’t know her MB skills like I do know Haggerty’s.

I do hope it is one of these two young ladies for sure

Watch it be neither of them. haha 🙂

  29. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 10:41 pm

    Some other complete guesses

    Simone Antwi from Florida??
    Lianna Sybeldon from UW.
    Molly Mccage from Texas?
    Whitney Follete from ASU?
Canace Finley (was a middle her freshmen year) from Oregon?
    Kiara Wright from USC?
    Kristalyn Goode from Michigan?
    Paige Neuenfeldt from North Carolina?
    Shelby Sullivan from Texas A&M?

All will be juniors and have potential to “be big time” in the big west.

I hope it’s not Eden Frazier from Utah ( no offense to her)

  30. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 10:44 pm

re. 28 what I like about Aiyana Whitney is there were a lot of PSU fans on volley talk saying she was PSU’s best hitter, but she didn’t start because they had a bunch of experienced seniors.

  31. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 10:50 pm

Whoops forgot Cindy hasn’t seen her play, so cross out Follete and Mccage (longshot anyway)

  32. vballfreak808 March 22, 2014 11:04 pm

    28. Maddie Haggerty is not on the 2014 roster because the rosters school put up is 2014 spring rosters. Unless she is enrolled early they cannot put her name on it.

    29. Follette, Finley, and Sybeldon are all playing sand now so they are not an option now. I also doubt McCage would leave Texas considering she gets playing time and she is from Texas

  33. formerlywarriorfan March 22, 2014 11:07 pm

Not sure why playing sand means anything, since this player won’t be enrolling into UH until summer or fall anyway.

  34. Cindy Luis March 22, 2014 11:07 pm

    27. when i have time
    31. hmmm, didn’t remember seeing her play but I now have to revise that. she didn’t stick out in my mind but I also don’t remember a lot of things from last week.

  35. Brandon. March 22, 2014 11:16 pm

I honestly don’t think it’s whitney, even though I so desperately want it to be

  36. mauna March 22, 2014 11:25 pm

Gang, you get it, Cindy’s says she has to revise saying not seeing her play. Which means that one of the names we mentioned on this blog, triggered her memory, and the transfer is her. Again Olivia Magill or Whitney Follete.

  37. Brandon. March 22, 2014 11:29 pm

I’m thinking Olivia cause Follete seems REALLY happy at asu. This is judging by her twitter

  38. Brandon. March 22, 2014 11:37 pm

Kinda bummed it’s not whitney though. Oh well. Any of the girls mentioned have potential to be stars

  39. Brandon. March 22, 2014 11:44 pm

But now it might be Melanie wade or sybeldon.

  40. al March 23, 2014 12:07 am

    have we room for two?
    haha.

  41. haleiwacrossfitter March 23, 2014 2:05 am

Still think it’s between Whitney and Haggerty. I think more Whitney now, though. A PSU fan on VT didn’t even kind of deny the thought her transferring, even said he/she thinks Russ would release her because he doesn’t want a kid to be unhappy. If someone was kind of speculating a UH player transferring, I would probably deny the thought of it happening. That’s just me though and I’m just speculating at 2:00 AM because I can’t sleep.

Some have the said the transfer is actually obvious on VT if we were “paying attention” as he put it. Guess I have not been paying attention because it’s not obvious to me. I wish people who knew would just say who it is. :/

  42. tommui March 23, 2014 6:58 am

    #40 AL:

    You can’t teach height!

  43. LC March 23, 2014 8:59 am

  46. formerlywarriorfan March 23, 2014 11:08 am

    43. You aint fooling anyone.

    44. Everyone is after Sun.

    45. Yea right , Shoji wouldn’t take anyone from the Wac, get real.

  47. Hot March 23, 2014 5:33 pm

  48. formerlywarriorfan March 23, 2014 5:54 pm

    47. Dude come on get some Perpective! Which starters from last year would start at PSU? Hartong and Longo and that is it!!

  56. mainlandgal March 24, 2014 10:28 am

Wasn’t this supposed to be a Sand Volleyball story thread. Show the Sand Team some respect! The Sand season is less than 2 months … let them have some hard earned, well deserved story threads and comments of their own.

  64. Mainlandgal March 24, 2014 3:19 pm

Thanks #63 — I’m so tired of the Sand Team getting shoved aside. They deserve some respect and stories/blogs of their own. Especially the Sand- only girls. They give a lot to the team and the sport and representing UH Athletics!! GO SANDBOWS!!!

  65. Cindy Luis March 24, 2014 3:25 pm

they haven’t been shoved aside. they have had plenty of stories. they have their own thread. not the first time it’s gone off topic.
TRANSFER thread is up so discussion can move there.
