no changes in Hawaii’s lineup: Franciskovic, Sedore, Averill, Zarkovic, Fey, Holt and Kanetake

  2. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:22 pm

Anteaters have pulled away from a tight match with 4 straight points. Up 15-11 at the TTO. Set 1 had been tied 10 times through 10-10

  3. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:27 pm

Sedore with an ace, UH has closed to 18-17. TO UCI

  4. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:30 pm

UCI with 2 quick points, up 20-17. TO UH

  5. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:37 pm

Hawaii appears to have tied it at 23. UCI with a challenge. on whether the attack hit the antenna or UH’s block

  6. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:38 pm

UCI loses the challenge. it’s 23-23

  7. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:40 pm

UCI up 24-23. TO UH. interestingly the linesman called UH’s block of La Cavera in. but up ref never wavered from the block out call.

  8. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:43 pm

Saerta with an ace, UCI wins it 27-25

  9. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 5:56 pm

    UCI up 10-8. TO UH.

  10. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:03 pm

Wade with a challenge on Sedore’s block going back and hitting the UCI player or now. I think he has a case and they are supposed to be showing it on the JumboTron but aren’t.

  11. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:05 pm

UH loses the challenge. Very surprised at that. anyway, UCI follows up with an ace and it’s 15-11 at the TTO.

  12. Don January 11, 2015 6:06 pm

Someone needs to get Ernie the FIVB rule book…

  13. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:11 pm

UH closes to 19-17. have traded liberos, Komisark for Kanetake. TO UCI

  14. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:15 pm

    12. yep, plus they should have been showing it on the JumboTron. Wade kept pointing up to have it replayed and they didn’t

UCI ace makes it 23-18. TO UH

  15. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:19 pm

UH has closed to 23-20. TO UCI. Sedore to serve

  16. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:20 pm

UCI up 2-0 after winning 25-21

  17. Don January 11, 2015 6:30 pm

I hope these refs are reviewed…we really need new refs. We’ve been putting up with poor calls for many years and I see the video replay as a way that they can improve. I see no interest in improving from these refs.

  18. warriorfan January 11, 2015 6:36 pm

Where is the block and defense?? Not showing up at all. UH can’t pass either.

  19. warriorfan January 11, 2015 6:37 pm

Try Mol, or another middle, Fey and Holt just aren’t doing much.

  20. warriorfan January 11, 2015 6:39 pm

What is really upsetting is Irvine getting swept by Lewis , already, it may have been the first match of the year, but it still counts for RPI and it was a huge win for Lewis.

  21. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:41 pm

    UCI up 11-6. TO UH.
I suppose they could try Radner at MB.
there seems to be a real lack of energy from UH
And UCI is serving lights out.

  22. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:44 pm

    20. the Lewis win came over UCI when they were without two starters, including La Cavera.

  23. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:44 pm

UCI leading 15-9 at the TTO

  24. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:46 pm

Lewis also swept Stanford and lost to BYU 3-2. at the Stanford tourney So give the Flyers some credit.

  25. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:51 pm

UCI out to a 20-14 lead. TO UH

  26. warriorfan January 11, 2015 6:54 pm

Next week matches against the Gauchos are huge, because from what we saw today, UH might not have a shot at Irvine in two weeks, their three OH’s and serving are just too good.

What really sucks is someone on volleytalk said Hershko was a UH commit at one time before Speraw got in the picture.

  27. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 6:54 pm

UH has closed to 21-18. TO UCI

  28. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 7:00 pm

    26. interesting comment about Hershko who is a sophomore.
Speraw has been gone from UCI since after the 2012 season.
    UCI wins 25-19

  29. warriorfan January 11, 2015 7:00 pm

I’m disappointed Wade didn’t go to his bench at all. Chris keeps mentioning how deep they are?? So why not?? I wanted to see what Mol could do.

  30. warriorfan January 11, 2015 7:01 pm

Hershko is a foreign recruit though, so took him a while to come over. I think colleges were waiting for his test scores.

  31. warriorfan January 11, 2015 7:06 pm

Just saw that Long beach is losing Alex Reid to Colorado State, and Joy Miley, on top of Losing Sophie Bukovec. I like the wahine’s chances to win the big west next season even more now.

  32. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 7:28 pm

    30. here’s the deal from Wade and UCI coach
Wade saw Hershko when he was in Israel and Yuval Katz drove him around looking at a few players. Still had military service to go. Wade said he had an email from Hershko’s dad saying son was going to commit to UH.
apparently UCI was able to offer a better scholarship deal. UCI coach said the Hershkos contacted him two years ago after they won the NCAA title and that’s the story.

  33. warriorfan January 11, 2015 7:29 pm

Damn what could have been. Hershko is obviously good.

  34. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 7:29 pm

    33. player made his decision. it happens.

  35. warriorfan January 11, 2015 7:37 pm

Yeah, hard to recruit against the national champions, but UH was close again, just like with Sander.

I agree with Lisa that UH should maybe hit the weight room. UCI players looked much stronger.

  36. Ki January 11, 2015 8:00 pm

WF.. where did you get that info (about LBSU players)? Where is Miley going?

  37. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 8:32 pm

    35. UH does a lot of weight training. The difference is UCI has big guys.

  38. Warriorfan January 11, 2015 10:00 pm

    36. From volleytalk,
Long beach now loses starting libero Jackson, OH1 Reid, probable OH2 Miley, Opposite Mackie, top DS Crabajac and middle Okpala. I think they will be lucky to finish top 4 next year in big west play.

  39. rayson January 11, 2015 10:01 pm

Hawaii got out played. Fey really needs to work more on the offensive part of his game. Averill needs to get back on track and continue where he left off last year. Sedore needs to hit more line shots when he has the opportunity. The were multiple times when I thought the ball was set out wide enough and there was a big gap in the block that he should have hit line instead of cross court right into the block.

Like WF, I don’t get why Wade didn’t substituted more tonight. You can’t really claim to have a deep bench if you don’t play anyone else except your starters.

What is up with Vaughn Wellenreiter? According the Stephen Tsai he was suppose to be eligible to play immediately. He’s not listed on the roster and has not been warming up with the team? What’s the hold up? This team needs another viable middle.

Siki had a great weekend. He found ways to put the ball down and his defense was solid overall. More than any other Hawaii player he was able to better the ball on bad sets.

I also thought overall Kanetake had a better weekend than Sedore and should have been named to the all-tournament team instead of him.

  40. Cindy Luis January 11, 2015 11:59 pm

    39. have mentioned several times that Wellenreiter’s paperwork hasn’t cleared. They thought it would be done by now which is what Tsai was going on. But it hasn’t happened. And until it does he cannot be listed on the roster nor warm up with the team. The last Wade said was it will happen sooner than later. wouldn’t be surprised if it happens this week.
as for the all-tournament team, if Hawaii had won, he likely would have made it and UH would have have three players. I had Kanetake on my ballot at the start of the match. but he didn’t have a great outing against the Anteaters. If the stats were to be believed, he didn’t have a dig until the middle of Set 2. But I do question the stats. He was clearly the best libero of the tourney but that’s not how the voting goes. It’s not done by position.
Sedore had kills and aces that warranted his selection.

  41. Cindy Luis January 12, 2015 12:19 am

    38. The Beach was already losing Jackson, Mackie, Cabrajac and Okpala since they were seniors. So it’s not like they didn’t have plans to replace them
Miley and Reid would be big losses. Interesting that Reid would transfer for her senior year but she is from Colorado.

  42. Cindy Luis January 12, 2015 12:21 am

have a new thread up for Monday discussion.
Hall replaces Wong as Wahine associate coach
