Neither CSUN or UCSB looked sharp tonight on BWTV.
Would have liked to see both of them loose to give us some breathing room but it didn’t workout. I sure hope we don’t come out of this bye week lazy.
Texas beat ISU 3-1
Both Cal Poly and Cal Davis were up 2-1 and couldn’t close the match out.
It doesn’t matter what other teams do, just win out and they will win the conference. They probably need to win out anyway to host playoffs at home.
UCSB and Northridge will probably lose somebody like Long Beach who they both still have to travel to.
Got some RPI support from Texas,Portland State,San Diego and Wichita State today but no help from New Mexico State or Santa Clara who lost.
3. Isn’t hosting the 1st and 2nd rds done, UH’s rpi dropped to #10 after the lost to UCSB, so how they gonna host as they will surely drop more than 6 spots in rpi by seasons end as the big west is weak again?

5. no, it will all depend on how UH does over the next 6 weeks and how UH’s opponents do through that time period. What UH needs to do is keep winning and for its opponents to keep winning.

Local girls Carly Kan and Loxley Keala and their Missouri team just beat No. 2 Florida in four
Yep, Carly Kan got 13 kills, hitting .379 for the match. Loxley Keala contributed 2 aces and 5 digs as a defensive specialist. Missouri is now one of two undefeated teams in the nation. Both are freshman so they have a bright future ahead of them.
Arizona Wildcats leading #1 USC 2-0 at Arizona. Looks like an upset in the making.
Top 10 due for a big shake up come Monday. Nebraska,Florida lose and Michigan State lost twice. Arizona up 2-0 over USC and Stanford at Washington coming up in 10 minutes.

Jane Croson had 17 digs; Arizona heavily depends on Croson’s back row defense. What is surprising is how many times Arizona went to Croson for back row attacks in out-of-system plays. What a season with upsets galore every weekend! A number one rating is a jinx.
RPI help for the week.
According to the experts the teams we played in the preseason either help or hurt our RPI depending on what they do and who they played.
I’m assuming that some wins or losses can either hurt or help you more than others but I’m not a computer so all I do is track the wins and losses for the week.
If I counted correctly this past week there were 16 wins and 5 loses by the teams that affect our RPI not counting Big West teams who obviously are of little help.
The help that we have been getting so far has been pretty good , there are only a couple of teams who we’re not getting a lot of help from,namely UCLA and Santa Clara.
Unless we screw up and start losing to Big West teams and we continue to get good support from those we played in the preseason I’m pretty confident we can stay inside that magical # 16 spot.

It was a great week for Hawai’i to be idle. Do nothing and they will find themselves moving up in Monday’s AVCA Poll.
[As for the RPI, someone above wrote that Hawai’i can expect to “stay inside that magical # 16 spot.” As we know from experience, staying inside the #16 spot far from guarantees being selected host of one of the 16 subregionals. Hawai’i needs to stay in the top 10 RPI — and while even that (RPI 1 ~ 10) is not a guarantee it’s the minimum RPI number that Na Wahine needs to shoot at to have a ‘reasonable’ chance at a subregional host bid.]
Almost everyone expected Florida to run the SEC table. Except new-SEC kid-on-the-block Mizzou said NOT IN OUR HOUSE.
Congrats to Mountain West’ s Colorado State Rams (17-0) and SEC’s Missouri Tigers (23-0) for remaining D1’s only undefeateds left standing at the start of Week 5 (for most) of the Conference Season.

It will be moving day on Monday when the AVCA ranking are announced to replace USC, who were swept by Jane Croson & Company in Tucson on Sunday. It was the first time in 20 years the wildcats beat the #1 team in the country. Croson had a team high 17 digs to go along with 9 kills. It marks the 5th time a number one has fallen this season. Making its ephemeral coronation more jinx than charm. Texas, Penn State, WASH and USC have all had quick falls from the slippery throne.
Texas (13-2) should hit the top again followed by Penn State (16-2) and WASH (13-1). USC will prolly land on #4 and Florida #5. Minnesota had two impressive victories this week on the road and will move up from #10. Michigan State #5 lost two on the road and likely will drop out of the top 10. Stanford split and may remain, but Nebraska #8 split @ home and will likely drop out of the top 10. Hawaii will likely remain at #9 or move up a notch despite being idle. The wahine win over #1 Texas remains big.
The loss to UCSB @ home represents a red flag.
Undefeated Missouri #25 will leap frog more than any other team. They beat the #2 Gators on the road and are considerably underrated.
Re: 22 Apparently you did not read my post. Missouri defended its house against the invading Gators. And while they don’t get as much respect as they should in the SEC because it’s only the Tigers second year in that conference, Mizzou is hardly “considerably underrated” with a #12 RPI.

from LC’s post — if the teams on the non-conference portion of Hawaii’s schedule went 16-5 last week, and continue to rack up wins like that … that will go a long way toward maintaining, and even boosting, Hawaii’s RPI.
