Thursday checkin: some answers
A couple of things to update from Wednesday’s thread.
the other player not in summer school is Guinasso. She is playing beach this summer but will be back for fall camp. Shoji said he didn’t mention her on the radio Wednesday because she wasn’t in Hawaii but she will be in the mix.
Kirsten Sibley, 6-2, OH from Vision Volleyball in Los Gatos has given her oral committee for 2016. Still waiting to hear back from her club coach.
Some of her other teammates from the 17s Gold have committed to Oregon State, Santa Clara, UOP and Harvard. Team tied for fifth at the GJNC.
Same club that produced Amanda Gil, who is an assistant for the 18s, and Brittany Howard,

Sibley goes to the same high schoolas incoming warrior Joe Worsley.
The last wahine to play for Vision volleyball club was Amber Kaufman.
I know its hard for us Hawaii people to see these girls play unless we travel, but anyone who has seen her in person, is she any good?
Also, how many schoolies do we lose? Just magill and Tai right? Seems like a pretty decent class. A PHENOM setter, who many consider top 2 in her class, and a OH from a pretty good club. Excited to see if Kirsten is ranked by prep
Feel like UH will pick up another middle in 2016, especially if Mitchem plays on the pins.
I would like to see Huff redshirt this season in volleyball and learn the middle position. Mcgill only have one more year and Mitchem two. If Huff redshirt, she will enter 2016 as a redshirt soph and be able to compete for time as a RS JR after Mitchem leaves.
I just don’t see Huff as an OH since she is not that great a passer and does not have the explosiveness when approaching the ball during attacks. With Granato(a heavy hitter), Castillo and Greely( more solid all around players) and now Silbey, Huff will have a hard time cracking the starting lineup. the other option is to play her OPP where she can just concentrate on hitting a blocking.
Part of the 2016 class is also Emma smith, one of the best liberos in So Cal, maybe the best one in her class.
UH should have a lot of options as to who plays where.
5. Huff hasn’t played that much OH and only reason she was being used as an OH last year was because of the uncertainty of Taylor’s injury. She showed improvement on the Euro trip but didn’t get a lot of chances to play back row.
At the moment there is no plan for her to redshirt. Don’t know if she goes back to middle or tries to compete again for an OH spot.
2. I guess the answer is if Hawaii offered a scholarship, she is good.
since there are only 2 seniors, at the moment only two scholarships were available and both have been taken.
Smith’s commit is both indoor and sand. have to wait and see how that plays out.
4. don’t know where Mitchem will end up. She is very versatile from all accounts. First she has to get her AA and get through the NCAA clearing house. She’s on track to be here by the opening of camp, which is Aug. 10
You also have Burns coming in who is a middle. I would expect at least one of the freshmen to redshirt but you never know.
Hey Cindy
On the previous thread you commented on a poster’s scenario of Jeff and Robyn coaching while Dave is at Olympics and you said that won’t happen. Does this mean you think this is his last year? Just curious on your opinion.
sorry, no, don’t think this is his last year.
apologize. I meant to write that it would likely happen. was in a rush to get to something.
have since corrected. thanks for letting me know about it.
Great article on Sibley, I wonder if she will play beach volleyball at UH too.
can you post the article here cindy?
To read the article you may want to try this, google Kirsten Sibley, once there open article titled,”UH gets potential 6-rotation player.” I would copy and paste but I am unable to. Hope this helps.
sorry for the delay
For copyright reasons I cannot post the article here. It is behind our paywall. but will start a new thread to recap it.
