Sunday thoughts?

Back on later but just some things to get the conversation started this morning.

It will be an interesting match up for Hawaii vs. Pepperdine on a neutral court. The Waves didn’t play well the last week of the season but neither did UH.

If Hawaii were to lose to the Waves, don’t see them getting the at-large unless UCI wins the tournament. Then it will go to the committee. UH’s RPI is good and they did beat Pepperdine twice earlier.

As for the Aloha Invitational., as mentioned on the previous thread, it was made-for-TV and they decided at the last minute to make the No. 1s count for 5 points since UH was already ahead 4-0. Not sure what they would have done if UH was ahead 3-1. but if organizers want the tournament to be take seriously, they can’t rig it. this isn’t Big Brother.

UH was pretty adamant when telling the organizers that the score needed to be reported to the AVCA as 4-1 officially

I thought the home matches goes to the highest remaining seed i the MPSF playoffs? If Hawaii was seeded two and Pepperdine was seeded at 3rd, would not the next game be played at the SSC?? Maybe I missed something?

well that’s just a bizarre way for the wahine sand team to “lose” to lbsu … but it’s good to see that hawaii was able to beat them with a little more separation this time, 4-1 (instead of the closer 3-2 win last time out). bodes well for the wahine when they have to play lbsu again in the quarters of the nat’l tournament.

great win last night, a big emotional night for the team and the crowd. but the warriors can’t playing coming from behind against pepperdine. pepp is too good of a team to be spotting 8 point leads to.

The good news is they will be playing on a neutral court, and instead of a long day of travel with a four hour time zone loss, to a high elevation and the cold as they got at BYU, it’ll be a (relatively) short non-stop flight to equal elevation, no cold, no connection and only 3 hrs lost.

They can, and will be Pepperdine. I believe!

When are the warriors leaving for Irvine? Hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning, so that they can settle in for a few days, since Pepp just has to drive for an hour.

I really hope Brook and Taylor play up to their potential Thursday. UH needs them to dominate and lead to win the national championship.

ran — the highest remaining seed (uci) hosts the semis and finals of the mpsf tournament.

Sounds like the Aloha Invitational “organizers” need to clean up their act for the “team” competition, or they may need to bring in all of the participating teams.

A 1-4 team ends up in first as the No. 1s offset the performance of the other pairs on a team? Then why play? Who are these clowns?

  9. R.M April 26, 2015 5:41 pm

That changes they made in teams competition is soooo late that the beach players got surprised also when they called the sandbows as second placer. That moment was so awkward but the na wahine still smiled for the team picture

Hopefully the slight will give the wahine incentive to kick Long Beach’s behind next week when it really matters at the AVCA championships.

    1. semis and finals at the same site. even if UCI were to lose Thursday. Too much travel involved otherwise.

    8. they made the decision after UH was up 4-0. wanted some drama for TV. still a bad decision IMHO.

    9. yes, very awkward since the players did not know about the ‘5 points’ as stated early appeared only Hall was told.

    10. no need for incentive. UH won the match 4-1. sadly the ‘rigged’ results will be on national TV.

guess they can count on UH not being in the next invitational, if there is one.

NEUTRAL SITE: 500 MILES AWAY FROM PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS.

BTW, no poll today, but RPI remains the same with UH still #4

Cindy….slightly unrelated, but do you have any update on the US Men’s team game at SSC? Mainly when it will be & who they will play? Assuming it will still happen (which I hope it does!!)

    Thanks!

Unrelated as well, but Imi’ike 18s finished 6th place in 18 Open at Far Westerns this past weekend and punched a ticket to the Girls Junior National Championships in June. The team is coached by Robyn AhMow, Kristiana Tuaniga and Aneli Cubi Otineru.

Good to see these local girls compete at a high level vs the tall mainland teams. UH recruit Mckenna Granato leads this team, but a very solid group all around.

    12. there will be another Aloha Invitational They’ve signed a 2 year agreement with option for a third.

    15. don’t think they’re bringing the men since the women will be here in June.
