Saturday checkin: Florida 3, SDSU 0

Have to apologize. Football blew up the blog and no posts were allowed.

SDSU up early 2-0 and 4-1

Good morning/afternoon good observations by all even if I’m not 100 percent in agreement. No libero is ever perfect and some of those serve-receive and hits had heat that sometimes you can’t adjust for.

thought I mentioned after Florida-EWU that Florida was beat-able but they weren’t going to beat themselves. I mentioned that they had a weakness during the course of last night’s thread.

Hawaii did exactly what EWU did in terms of frustrating UF hitters with defense and some tough serves.
Their weakness really is on serve. 18 SEs against EWU in four. 12 vs. Hawaii in 5. There should have been several more but a couple of Foot Faults were not called. They were getting called when the Gators played the Eagles.
But that was my takeaway from Thursday. Unfortunately few got to see that match.

So when Hawaii’s served got tougher, they couldn’t run their middles and almost neutralized Alhassan. Interestingly, she was 0-0-3 in Set 3 that Florida won 25-22. but they had Holston 5-0-10 and Antwi 6–0=9 in Set 3 where the Gators 14-14-1-31.

Aztecs playing well but can’t sustain it. They were up 15-14. Gators pulled away 11-3 run.

I cannot believe how fast the fortunes of a team can change in one day. After the SDSU match I was in total despair about our team. The loss to UCLA did not bother me because I felt that it was helpful to UH in showing weaknesses. Our game against SDSU was so poor except for blocking. I thought after UCLA we would bounce back strong with improvement in many of our shortcomings, but the opposite happened. That left me in despair about our future season. Now, the tables have totally turned. Without question we have a strong and talented team. I know there will be ups and downs but there is no doubt about the quality and depth of our team.. So many great performances last night. Tai was huge but to me Taylor Higgins and her serving in the fifth set was unbelievable. After sitting most of the fourth set and first half of fifth set, to come onto the court cold under that pressure and make the serves she made was awesome. She is one mentally tough player. My hats off to her. I so look forward to watching the matches now because I know this team is solid with upside potential.
