Preseason poll out later today & civility

Hoping the poll will be out before I have to go to funeral at 10-ish. You’re welcome to post if I’m not around.

Also, lots of photos from practice on the booster club website courtesy of president Stanley Ching.

Guesses on another thread have UH somewhere between 8-12. I think that’s reasonable. If Croson was still here, likely Top 8. Texas for sure No. 1.

As for the other issues, let’s all try to be civil and sane. If that doesn’t work, and my patience leaves the building, then someone will be banned again.

I’ll be at practice later this afternoon. I think fans will enjoy watching this team play. There is a great spirit and the cohesiveness is evident. Kyra Goodman’s comment the other day on advice from her sister: It’s a family but you have to work hard.

Too early to look at a complete starting lineup but if I had to put one out as of today it would be: Uiato S, Hartong & Kastl LS, Tuaniga & Adolpho MB, Longo L. between Goodman and Taylor RS. Serving sub/DS: first off likely Lelepali.

Passi is going to be a very good player for UH but will have to wait until next year. Reminds you a bit of Satele physically. Still needs to finish up some paperwork. Believe she is few credits shy of her AA, which is required of a JC transfer.

I also like Kyra Goodman. Likely to redshirt since they don’t need 3 activated setters.

Theres no better way to start the new season without giving everyone a heads up on some civility reminders.
We appreciate all your insights Cindy.

11 is a good spot for the Wahine. With 7 seniors leading the Team with its new found “identity”, I think they will be an easy top 8 team once the season starts.

OMG Cindy you’re kicking Jade to the curb ? 🙂

  3. Cindy Luis August 12, 2013 9:12 am

How did I do that, LC? Just pointed out why she was suspended.

  4. Famlb August 12, 2013 9:13 am

I agree…no Vorster? Is she injured?

  5. Beauston August 12, 2013 9:18 am

I think LC means Vorster when you picked your starting MB’s.

At the Aug 30 starting lineup intro I’m 99% sure you’ll have Jade and Kalei at MB.

I’m curious what Kyra Goodman’s role is going to be next year. It appears that Higgins will have the job for three years. Would Kyra be comfortable being the back up for three years?

  8. vballfreak808 August 12, 2013 10:20 am

Wow, I was also surprised to see Vorster not as a starter even if it is a prediction. It’s not necessarily a bad thing since it means there is a lot of competition for that starting spot.

I’ve always wonder how Tuaniga will perform given a clean bill of health. I do hope it’s a three way competition. MB spot has got to be stronger than last year. .

Cindy, Tuaniga has improved that much to be able to beat out Vorster, or is it that, Vorster has not improved enough from last year, to keep her spot?

I can see a lineup like that against Texas because, it will give the Wahine a chance to attack with the hitter that best matches up with the blocker across the net from her. It gives them a chance to get a blocker (Vorster) against a high attack middle. If you start with her in the lineup, you don’t necessarily have the ‘right’ or ‘best’ alignment against a big block or high ball/quick attack hitter. That doesn’t go with just Texas either. Also Kristiana has paid her dues and deserves a shot in her senior year to show she can ‘lead’ and bring something to the mix. Later in the Big West, coaches will stack their lineups against the middles they saw the most of last year, so entering Jade late in a set can cause just enough havoc to score key end of match/set points. Also with her entering later, she can be used as a blocking sub for key points against shorter LS and or with a double switch for the setter to bolster the block. Strategy and holding your ace in the hole til the right time. And if it doesn’t go well you still have time to try going the other way, too. I think in the years of watching Wahine volleyball, Coach Dave has taught us that he knows more than we can remember about the games inside the game of volleyball. Go Wahine!

    2. sorry, misread Jade for Jane. not kicking her to the curb. 3 players for 2 spots Someone has to be left out.
.It can easily change. Not saying that’s the starting lineup. said if I were asked that as of the 3 practices I’ve seen that would be my guess.

    4. Vorster not injured. IMHO AT THE MOMENT IF THEY PLAYED TODAY Adolpho and Tuaniga start.

    10. have said that Tuaniga moving as well as I’ve ever seen her move. like the mobility to the outside.

  13. Cindy Luis August 12, 2013 2:53 pm

    11. paying dues has nothing with needing a lineup to win. you don’t put someone in because she’s a senior or been in the program the longest. Vorster does put up a bigger block. Just saying TK looks good and if you had to pick 2 of the 3 as of today, I like TK’s mobility. BUT they aren’t playing against anyone, sometimes not even themselves. no one blocking them most of the time. Vorster has been hitting some smart shots during scrimmages but she still needs to elevate. If she had the elevation that say a Kaufman had, it would make such a huge difference.

  14. Dedicatedfan August 12, 2013 5:28 pm

    13. If Vorster had the kind of elevation Kaufman did, she would be an All-American, and playing for a spot on the 2016 Olympic Team, not trying to make the starting unit for the Wahine Team.
