On the mainland, thoughts on upcoming matches?
Good morning. On the mainland and will miss this week’s USAV Cup.
Internet has been spotty so tossing up this thread for pre-match thoughts.
USA 2-0 after last weekend. The roster for the Honolulu matches won’t be exactly the same as those used in California.

I was expecting more cohesiveness from Brasil. I figured that with their #1 ranking, not having players play for other teams to earn a living, and their 3-time gold medal winning coach, that last weekend’s matches would remind me of when the Queensies play UH at SSC. In fact, that first set of match one reminded me of D2 NCAA play. Then, I learned that these are friendly matches and I decided to enjoy the show. The aspect of these matches that wowed me the most was the passing – especially that of the US back row.
Despite the friendly nature of this series, I suspect that Brazil will try much harder to salvage some pride by *at least* not being swept at SSC. That should make it more exciting for the SSC fans than it was for those in SoCal. Lucky you guys!
I”m also in the mainland right now. I guess that there will be no online showing of the matches, not even on a delayed basis. Paul r Sunderland stated during the commentary of the second match that he wasn’t going to Hawaii so there will be no commentary or video staff.
I don’t know how desperate Brazil might be to win at least one match in the series. It’s just an exhibition match. I guess that Brazil will be far more feisty when it comes to the Grand Prix and the World Championship matches and all the more so when they play at home. They won’t want the humiliation their soccer counterparts suffered at the World Cup on home court.
What is going on with the UH Ticket Site ? All of a sudden sections shown to be sold out yesterday now have available seats ?
The USA and Brazil matches should be great but I’m ready for Wahine volleyball already

Thanks, uhfan!
5. nice photos. To bad there’s no way to see the matches unless you go to the SSC which is rough for those that live on a different island. You don’t get to see the National team play in your state all the time.

uhfan, you’re so good! Mahalo!
Attendance didn’t live up to all the hype about Hawai`i and their fans might be something to this theory that a lot about Hawai`i VB is just a myth created by the media.
UH leading the country in attendance for 20 years is not a myth Coaches and players outside of Hawaii playing in Hawaii saying what a great place it is to play is not a myth
While not a sell out it seems there are at least decent 4K of attendance reported on the radio. Live audio on the radio(ESPN1420AM.COM) doesn’t match the video fortunately.
*Unfortunately*
Finally got some spirit on the court.
They announced in the arena that the USA Men’s National Team is coming to play in Hawaii next summer.
10. Hawaii volleyball is still the epitome of volleyball. Leading attendance for 20 plus years and averaging 4k for a match that doesn’t even feature Hawaii players is VERY good
Thought we had a good sprited crowd. Was it Jordan Larsen that got injured?
16. thought i had mentioned that earlier. yes, the men will be in Hawaii next summer.
17. sorry, don’t know. I will try to find out but my internet has been very spotty.
13. sadly yes. I don’t know how syncing worked but when I asked about ti they said it couldn’t be done.
Until Friday morning they weren’t going to stream.
17. Yes it was
Was in the upper section and we could hear her screaming in pain. Nicole fawcett carried her for each changeover.
