OCsports has won the bid to host rounds one and two of the NCAA Tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center. Both matches on Friday will be televised, and streamed on ocsports.tv. Saturday’s match will be broadcast only if Hawaii advances to the second round.

You have to big to host? Wow I did not know that! Is that why they broadcasted when they went to Washington last year?

  2. Brandon December 5, 2013 5:47 pm

    Telecast not host

  3. Cindy Luis December 5, 2013 5:49 pm

yes, they have to bid to televise matches. Don’t know if there was more than one bid for this week. Doubt it.

  4. Brandon December 5, 2013 5:51 pm

Ahh so the match in wahsinton was not televised in Washington? That’s pretty shocking actually. Thanks for the info Cindy!

  5. Cruisecontrol December 5, 2013 5:55 pm

Thanks for the info, Cindy. Have to set my DVR now. 🙂

  6. hollycow December 5, 2013 5:55 pm

Cindy does UH or Big West get any pct from the OC16 bid, besides the NCAA?

  7. hollycow December 5, 2013 5:57 pm

Setting the DVR, hope that OC16 fix their on screen programming for tomorrow and Saturday.

  8. LC December 5, 2013 6:01 pm

How we doing on ticket sales ? noticed that some cf the upper sections are sold out but not all.

  9. Butch December 5, 2013 6:14 pm

    online?

  10. Butch December 5, 2013 6:14 pm

oh, reread it. Televised and streamed….

  11. LC December 5, 2013 6:19 pm

Found the easy way to find online links for Live Streams

    1) go to bracket here : http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/volleyball-women/d1

2)Prior to the match click on match you want to watch this gets you a pop up window then click on Watch Live.

  12. LC December 5, 2013 6:28 pm

OK jumped the gun just noticed no Watch Live link for USC match going on now

  13. Volleyball fan December 5, 2013 7:13 pm

    12. You didn’t miss much. According to the livestats, USC blanked New Hampshire. Maximum number of points New Hampshire could score was 12 in the last set. It would have been a boring match to watch.

  14. Cindy Luis December 5, 2013 7:14 pm

    13. updated all scores on the other thread

  15. Cubicle1126 December 5, 2013 7:16 pm

is the streaming free? i noticed that the oc16 site requires a subscription. so is it a paid subscription … or is it free and you just need to register? (if anyone knows…)

  16. Warriorfan December 5, 2013 7:55 pm

Why wouldn’t it be free? it’s been free all season.

  17. 808BV December 5, 2013 7:56 pm

YES!!! Thank you Cindy for reporting!! I’m ‘rescheduling’ my friday night plans now HA!

HOLLYCOW, does the screen look ‘snowy’ and it delays sometimes?? Our living room tv is HDTV (or a 23in flatscreen) and i noticed it delays and ‘sprinkles snow’ a lot……..My have a ‘normal’ tv (non hdtv) it doesn’t show the full screen BUT it doesn’t delay or ‘sprinkle snow’.

  18. Kazu December 5, 2013 8:21 pm

I’m old fashion so I have to get my VCR ready to go. Should be fun being able to watch two matches.

  19. Cubicle1126 December 5, 2013 8:26 pm

warriorfan — it’s been free all season, you are correct. the live stream links were always available for free through the big west’s web site, without having to register.

i ask if the live stream is free, simply because it’s requiring a registration …

(i’m seeing some posts on the VT forum that the registration is just a procedural hurdle. it looks like the stream will be free. 🙂 )

  20. bowsfan December 5, 2013 8:36 pm

Tell me if I am crazy, just looked @ the ncaa and UH and Idaho State, I can see, but if you look @ scores, to see the upcoming for 12/6, only UH/Idaho State missing.

  21. bowsfan December 5, 2013 8:37 pm

Sorry brackets has the game, scores no game.

  22. bowsfan December 5, 2013 8:40 pm

my bad, game under saturday, not friday.

  23. Cubicle1126 December 5, 2013 8:42 pm

bowsfan, it’s because the matches are listed by Eastern standard time. so the hawaii-idaho state game starts 7:30 pm Hawaii time on Friday, which is 12:30 am Eastern time on Saturday.

so on the ncaa web site, under “scores,” Hawaii’s friday match is actually listed under saturday…

  24. Lina December 6, 2013 3:45 am

Cindy, any updates on ticket sales?
I would imagine it’s at least in the 8000s.

  25. LC December 6, 2013 6:12 am

Just watched that pre tournament interview on the Wahine web site,my impression.

Hartong and Ali seemed to be totally disinterested and tired.Dave was more interested in something going on with his phone.

Maybe it was done early in the morning or after a practice but there was no energy or excitement.

    Check it out,your impression.

    25. My fear is that coaches and writers who will vote in the Senior Class Award will see this…

  27. ifo manoa December 6, 2013 6:37 am

    25. Shoji is wearing Emily’s glasses….

  28. LC December 6, 2013 6:40 am

26 I don’t see anything there that would concern the SCA but compared to how loose the other teams seem to be that interview concerns me.Something wasn’t right,it was like they just got some bad news.

  29. ifo manoa December 6, 2013 6:52 am

hmmm… they do look pretty tight… hope they’re just tired with the inane questions.

  30. tom mui December 6, 2013 7:13 am

    DON’T FORGET TO VOTE:

    http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/volleyball_2013/

It is a deadheat in the voting between Emily and the Floridian.

  31. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 7:22 am

    25. you folks are reading way too much into how the players ‘looked.’ They were headed to practice, did not have any makeup on, Hartong didn’t have her contacts in. It was freezing in the interview room. Think somewhere in the low to mid 60s and everyone, including the reporters, couldn’t wait to get out of there.
As for Shoji, as mentioned last night, he had the CSUN-CSU match on his phone.
as for the SCA committee, we aren’t looking at something like this at all. Some of the finalists didn’t make the tournament. The voting is done on merit.

  32. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 7:26 am

    24. somewhere around 2,500 packages left. 100 student tickets were left out of the 400. Single tickets go on sale today

  33. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2013 7:42 am

well, hartong and longo were smiling at times throughout the video. it could also just be that these press conferences are kind of an “old hat” for hawaii players. maybe the excitement and/or novelty of it has worn away? (i don’t know, i’m guessing, and like cindy said, maybe reading in a little too much into it 😉 )

but at the same time, how often do players from the other teams get asked to be in a press conference? i’m sure it can be kind of a big deal if you’ve never done it before.

back in college, i used to cover basketball and volleyball games for my school paper’s sports section. they were DI, but a small school. while the basketball teams had press conferences following matches, the volleyball teams did not. if i didn’t try to catch the volleyball players and coaches right after the game, i’d have no quotes for my story! lol

  34. LC December 6, 2013 7:47 am

Seriously, makeup, contacts and a cold room, that’s the best you can come up with ? 🙂

  35. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 7:53 am

    31. seriously, maybe if you had been there …. it’s the truth.

  36. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 8:02 am

    30. not that it was old hat but UH press conference wasn’t very exciting there was Dave Reardon, Ann Miller and me. plus the SID
For Idaho State, the 4 listed above and one TV station.
didn’t make the other 2 so don’t know who was there besides Ann Miller.
The NCAA tournament means a mandatory press conference prior to or after practice times. otherwise after matches we ask for players and the coach.
UH men’s volleyball a different animal. We have to chase coaches and players around for quotes on the court.

  37. Kazu December 6, 2013 8:11 am

I think the girls just want to get out on the court and get on with the matches. They may get the same questions asked over and over that they get tired of it. Good for us though, just to see what they have to say.

  38. LC December 6, 2013 8:36 am

This is the ISU video. Pretty loose, lots of smiles.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WExNfqIqC4#t=55

  39. eMpTy December 6, 2013 9:14 am

Probably it was that the Hawaii girls were just focused and ready to take care of business and the ISU girls were just happy to be here since Portland State made the tournament from their conference last year. Go Rainbow Wahine…

  40. kimo browner December 6, 2013 9:26 am

Agree w Cindy, some of our fans need to relax. Our wahine are jacked. In the end, it will come down to Coach Dave’s rotation/substitution tactics in the back row which has seen him go with the best available– and timely execution. Spreading the ball around the net against Idaho State will conserve Hartong’s energy. Yes, we need to focus one game at a time, still, this is a two game tournament.

  41. Butch December 6, 2013 10:07 am

Cindy, I live on the mainland, how do I watch this/these matches online?

  42. 808BV December 6, 2013 10:15 am

After watching the video, I don’t see what the worry is. I don’t know how each girl acts ‘out of jersey’ but maybe Emily and Ali just have mono tone personalities? Nothing too be worries over…. They will SWEEP tonite! GO BOWS!!!

  43. Pudundo December 6, 2013 10:18 am

Just ordered my tickers. What’s funny is when I tried getting 2 tickets in the lower bowl as a package it told me it was sold out. But when I added two separate individual package tickets, the seats were right next to each other! I was so lucky. I tried my luck and now I am so happy. Instead of sitting in the upper, now I am in the lower bowl 😀

  44. OrbitalRipZ December 6, 2013 10:37 am

Saw on VTalk posters saying USC and Washington have the easiest route to the Elite Eight. Absolutely no respect for the BWC and for the Big West’s league leader. “Cakewalk” used over and over again. Hope USC is looking past CSUN. I like Hawai’i’s chances even more now.
    —————
Don’t know when was the last time all 16 seeds moved on to Round 2. Last year?
[Seed 9] San Diego vs UCSB and [Seed 14] Kansas vs Wichita St are on my radar for Round 1.

  45. LC December 6, 2013 10:47 am

Not looking like a sell out. First Round tickets went on sale this morning and I’m finding seats in the lower bowl.

  46. 'ohanaInBellingham December 6, 2013 11:19 am

    28. Thank you for the *no worry!*

  47. Pete Jek December 6, 2013 11:22 am

Eh. I shouldn’t have purchased the package. There weren’t any seats left in the lower bowl. Dumb.

  48. Brandon December 6, 2013 11:34 am

Im not going but im hoping for a sell out. I love when the SSC is packed! Even the game on the TV is more exciting.

  49. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 12:10 pm

yep, single session tickets on sale as scheduled for today.

  50. Cubicle1126 December 6, 2013 12:36 pm

also, when you think about it, players from other schools just must be real excited to here in hawaii. it’s absolutely freezing in many parts of the mainland. a co-worker told me that it was 5 degrees last night in washington (where her kids go to school). a friend in minnesota told me it was snowing and -18 degrees. yikes! i’d be all smiles to be here too 🙂

i agree with someone above. if the seriousness that hartong and longo brought to the press conference was a sign of their focus… i’ll take it!

  51. Hot December 6, 2013 4:01 pm

Wow LC surely loves to dig up the drama. Who cares if Shoji, Hartong and Longo looked disinterested/tired. They answered the questions respectfully and even elaborated on their answers. Sorry they couldn’t put on fake smiles and a put-on chipper attitude for you. IMHO, Longo didn’t look disinterested/tired. She was smiling.

  52. LC December 6, 2013 4:06 pm

Hot, obviously a lot of people care it has been the talk of the town today.

  53. Cindy Luis December 6, 2013 5:40 pm

    51. Agree.
    52. not sure what town you’re living in.
