Multimedia info (TV, radio, streaming)

Television: OCSports – Channels 16 (SD) and 1016 (HD) will be broadcasting ALL Hawai‘i matches of the tournament with Jim Leahey calling the play-by-play and Chris McLachlin doing color commentary.
Streaming Video: Available at www.secure.oceanic.com/Streaming.
Radio: ESPN Radio (1420 AM) will broadcast all UH matches live with Scott Robbs handling the play-by-play.
Audio Webcast: http://espn1420am.com
Live Stats: Live in-game stats are available at HawaiiAthletics.com

Also there will be free Wi-Fi. I don’t know if things will be changed for the match days but I was limited to 2 hours per first session, then had to sign back on for a 15 session. They also offered a one-time charge unlimited. There some other log in options I didn’t pursue. Assuming if you have an TWC account you can use your Roadrunner stuff.

What UH put out.

University of Hawai`i fans will have access to free Oceanic Time Warner Cable Wi-Fi service in the Stan Sheriff Center during UH sporting events, allowing them to participate in several online contests, activities, and promotions.

The Wi-Fi service will be available beginning with the UH women’s volleyball season and will continue through men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and men’s volleyball.

As part of its 2013-14 UH Corporate Partner agreement, Oceanic Time Warner Cable has wired the arena for Wi-Fi, which will allow fans to access internet service from their seats and participate in several online initiatives being offered by UH Corporate Partners. In addition, fans can enjoy other web-based activities, which they can access from a menu page that UH will host on its website (HawaiiAthletics.com).

Is on-line streaming FREE like last year or you gotta pay?

  2. LC August 29, 2013 10:49 am

Remember that security issues come with the use of WI FI in public places. So make sure you set up your devices with the proper protection settings with in your operating systems. This includes settings in cameras on smartphones which revel information if you post the photos on the internet.

  3. Mearky August 29, 2013 11:13 am

Will they only show UH games or will they show the first game of the tournament?

  4. LC August 29, 2013 11:19 am

According to my Zap TV Guide just the Hawai`i matches.

  5. Mearky August 29, 2013 11:21 am

    Thanks LC

The OC 16 Live Stream site has yet to post anything.

    https://secure.oceanic.com/Streaming/

The URL posted on the UH site seems to be no longer there I keep getting a Can’t Find Server.

  7. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 11:46 am

    2. The limited time may have been due to it not being match time. This was last week week they were setting up the wireless. hoping the server doesn’t get overloaded if a lot of fans take advantage. guess we’ll find out Friday.

    3. first part of the note says ALL Hawaii matches. no mention of other tourney matches.

    6. might be a function of the not being activated until closer to match time. just as in the case of the live stats.

  8. dw August 29, 2013 1:49 pm

What is the network name that is being used in the arena and is there going to be a password that needs to be entered in order for us to use that network at the arena?

  9. TV guy August 29, 2013 2:12 pm

Saturday’s 6pm Texas vs San Diego Match will be televised on OCSports.

All other Non Hawai’i matches for the 3 pre-season tourneys are not scheduled to be televised.

  10. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 2:27 pm

    9. thanks TV guy

  11. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 2:29 pm

    8. DW, check the hawaiiathletics.com for more info.
when you get to the arena, believe your device will pick a network called TWC
there was no password when I used it last week. but you have to ‘agree’ to terms.

  12. dw August 29, 2013 2:44 pm

    thanks

  13. Dedicatedfan August 29, 2013 2:51 pm

Cindy, do the team captains decide what match uniform the players are going to wear, or does Shoji do that?

  14. mei mei August 29, 2013 2:57 pm

Does anyone know if the matches are sold out? I heard Texas was pretty close?!…

  15. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 3:11 pm

    13. & 14. don’t know to both questions. but believe there are tickets left all nights.

  16. Hilobaymoon August 29, 2013 3:53 pm

Just bought 2 tickets on-line today around 2:00pm. Requested best available and received Upper Section F. Resolution of the seating diagram on-line at UH’s website is awful, so I’m guessing that we are near the top of Section F. If so, then I hope it means tickets are selling very nicely. We haven’t been able to attend a game in person for a long time, so we’re excited to be doing our part toward a sell-out!

  17. po'okela August 29, 2013 4:33 pm

first year they aren’t going to televise the non UH matches in awhile?

  18. Msrpantoja1@Huh.'A'loha August 29, 2013 5:34 pm

Are all the women still swooning over Brian Poppinga as they once did being broadcasted over the 50th State of Hawai’i?!

The man was as they term..”HOT!”

  20. Warriorfan August 29, 2013 7:38 pm

^Oregon being ahead of the wahine is a joke.

Anyway watching the US national team now. Still not impressed with Hill. Definitely think Emily will be ahead of her by next year.Emily is just more powerful and explosive, I saw Hill as a senior in 2011 and thought as a passer she was about the same as Emily was last year.
Hope Emily plays sand this season to keep improving her passing and defense.

Think Kanani could really help the US too but not sure if Karch will give her a chance because of her height.

  21. Lina August 29, 2013 7:38 pm

Cindy or anyone else out there?

Do you know the ticket count for tomorrow’s opener? Specifically, do you know how much were sold already? I just bought my tickets earlier today, and it wasn’t easy finding seats in general…… :p

  22. Warriorfan August 29, 2013 8:39 pm

Okay after pretty abysmal starts by the soccer and football team I am ready for some wins for UH!!
Wahine just need to serve tough, pass nails and dig like madwomen , get those horns frustrated all night and out of system all night.

  23. vballfreak808 August 29, 2013 9:13 pm

I do hope the non Hawaii matches are going to be shown because its not like people don’t watch it on TV

  24. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:15 pm

    16. can’t tell you why. It’s TV’s decision.
    20. No, don’t know the ticket count. sorry.

  25. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:17 pm

    18. P&G, unclear of why you put up a poll that is 10 days old.
As for Oregon being ahead of Hawaii, coaches looked at the final poll of last year, Oregon was in the national final ….
    19. it is a preseason poll with 60 people voting independently. the points fall where they fall.
As mentioned earlier, Shoji no on the poll this year, probably for the first time in about 30. Think he didn’t out of protest in the 80s.
this time he missed the deadly to reply in the affirmative by a few days. then was told they had filled his spot with ‘another Big West coach.’

  26. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:24 pm

    21. abysmal start for football? 30-13 to a ranked team. Where was UH picked in the MWC?. Turnovers were the difference. 4 INTs by the UH QB, think at least 2 in the red zone. Had the defense on the field way too long and were worn down after the half. I’d call it a very frustrating loss.

  27. Warriorfan August 29, 2013 9:28 pm

I dont think this is a very good usc football team, and the offense was abysmal imo.

  28. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:30 pm

    21. as for soccer, they lose 1-0 despite dominating on offense 21-3 on shots.
    then lose 2-0.

  29. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:36 pm

    18. unaware of the swooning over Poppinga during the rare televised match from Klum Gym. He was pretty committed to Karrie Trieschman even back then. Still married to her, 2 lovely and very tall daughters. He is recouping from hip replacement surgery. They live in Austin. Very good friends with UT coach Elliott since their days together at UH
Speaking of nice looking men, Carlos Briceno will be back in the arena this week. Daughter plays for USD.

  30. volleyball fan August 29, 2013 9:37 pm

Why mention football here? This is Volleyshots dedicated to volleyball. If we can distract here, then we can also discuss the USA team. I wasn’t able to watch the match, only read about it and its stats. China is now the rising star having beaten USA 3-0, also the only undefeated team in the FIVB Grand Prix. They have a new star player, Zhu Ting, 6’5″ and only 18 years old and she’s scored more points than anyone else in either team. We sure need Destinee Hooker back in the lineup. I heard she’s taken a year off to have a baby. So hopefully she’ll return next year or the year after and give China some needed challenge. Maybe Emily Hartong can make the team and outdo Kim Hill. For now it will be interesting to see how Brazil and China will duke it out with each other.

  31. Warriorfan August 29, 2013 9:43 pm

I honestly don’t see Emily having any trouble outdoing hill. hartong is improving soo much in passing and offensively she’s better and also a quicker athlete.

  32. Dedicatedfan August 29, 2013 9:54 pm

Cindy, if Oceanic holds true to what they have done the previous 2 years. Both matches in the next 2 tournaments should be televised. From all recollection they have never televised both games, in the first tournament.

  33. Cindy Luis August 29, 2013 9:55 pm

    32. don’t remember if that’s true about the first tournament. Again, it’s a TV decision.

  34. Cubicle1126 August 30, 2013 9:02 am

Warriorfan — i’ve been watching the WGP matches as well, and it’s a thoroughly disappointing showing by the US team so far. no one is playing well for them right now, with maybe the exception of Kelly Murphy. granted, this is by no means the “A” team. it’s barely the “B” team. and they did open the final round with 2 of their first 3 matches against brazil (who beatdown on this US squad) and china (who is now led by former US coach Lang Ping). still though, you always want to see the US team be competitive.

i agree, i’d like to see what some past (Kanani) and present (Hartong) wahine can do for the national team.

  35. Cubicle1126 August 30, 2013 9:02 am

Purple&Green — what does “AVCA Poignant” mean?

  36. Cubicle1126 August 30, 2013 9:45 am

hawaii is the underdog in every respect tonight. which sometimes puts more pressure on the favorite. maybe. hawaii, for sure, has a real chance at the upset, but it will take a tremendous effort to (1) bother texas enough and force them out-of-system, and then (2) defendant texas’ out-of-system swings, because webster and eckerman can still terminate no matter the situation.

i like the fact that both teams bring back a lot of their lineup. both lose a primary passer/defender (mcneal for texas, and of course, croson for hawaii), but hawaii loses more offense with the loss of that player as well. still though, this is a great matchup between two teams that have the capability of playing as if in midseason form, right at the starting gate. win or lose, i’m hoping for a high quality match.
