MPSF BYU 3, The Beach 0. Loyola, Penn State win
Some of you have said you don’t care but if you do,
Today’s final on BYU=TV at 3 p.m. HST: Hawaii stations 409 Oceanic, 374 Direct TV
I will be out at OIA water polo so will try to catch up when I get back
At-large to be announced tomorrow. If BYU loses, they are sure to get it.
I do feel that The Beach has the inside track over UC Irvine by virute of getting to the title game.
Although a case can be made for UCI, the defending national champ. Anteaters 3-1 over the 49ers this year. But the loss to the Beach came just two days ago, and I’m sorry, you’re up 14-10 and serving for the match. Can’t close it, and lose Set 5 22-20. Does UCI deserve the at-large after that?

Sorry, Cindy, I have to point out an error here. It wasn’t UCI that was up 14-10. It was Long Beach. I give credit that UCI caught up with them and averted four match points and it went on till Long Beach won 22-20. I do agree with your assessment that Long Beach should get the at-large bid if they lose today on account of beating the Anteaters most recently and because they racked up a higher total of wins and also because they were ranked #2 in the nation even though they got a #3 seeding in the MPSF. But I wouldn’t count out UCI altogether. Stranger things have happened. Who thought that the Rainbow Wahine will be seeded below #16 and set away? We are all so sure they could host the first round of playoffs at home. I assume nothing.
My bad. misread the play-by play
as for the other final four berths
Penn State sweeps Harvard for the EIVA
Loyola upsets host Lewis in 5 for the MIVA
Am writing a couple of things. will get back to volleyball in a bit.
Rats rats RATS. I was so hoping LB would win – bummer.
Penn State as usual, ugh
UCI gets my vote for the at large berth, hard to ignore a 3-1 record against the beach for the whole season.
Agree a 3-1 record can’t be ignored but The Beach won when it counted. Both teams tied for second in the MPSF. Think it goes to the 49ers.
Either way, BYU will be seeded 1, MPSF at-large No. 2, Penn State No. 3 and Loyola No. 4
Likely an all-MPSF championship final.
But then that would mean that the entire season doesn’t matter and only the playoffs do. I wouldn’t be surprised t if the beach got it though.
I think with both teams tied in the standings, they may consider head-to-head. but I think it’s The Beach.
MOSCOW – Idaho volleyball coach Debbie Buchanan has finalized her roster for next season with the addition of three players this spring.
Tineke Bierma, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter from College of Southern Idaho and Terra Varney, a 5-foot-8 defensive specialist from Vista Murrieta High School in Murrieta, Calif., will join the team this fall, and Stephanie Hagins, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, joined the team earlier this spring after transferring from the University of Hawaii.
Bierma, Varney and Hagins join Samantha Rouleau and Torrin Crawford, who signed during the early signing period in November, as Idaho’s newcomers for 2013.
This is from the CDA press no mention at all about Monica Stauber. I wonder where she is going after all??
I just watched the NCAA selection show on Sunday morning, and Warriorfan, you were right. UC Irvine won the at-large bid. I guess the 3-1 record prevailed here so regular season did count. Also, perhaps that they were defending national champions.
1-BYU (MPSF auto-bid. 2-UC Irvine (at-large). 3-Loyola (MIVA auto-bid). 4-Penn State (EIVA auto-bid).
Thursday at Los Angeles (hosted by UCLA)
(3) Loyola v (2) UC Irvine, 3pm HT
(4) Penn State v (1) BYU, 5pm HT
Saturday
Semifinal winners, 3pm HT
I am happy for Irvine because they owned the beach all season and one 22-20 loss in the fifth set of the semi’s shouldn’t have kept them out.
Thanks everyone. See new thread.
WF, interesting about no mention of Stauber at Idaho. Don’t know where she’s headed.
