Miyashiro cleared to practice, other pre-Cup notes

Spoke with both Tamari Miyashiro and Karch Kiraly about next month’s matches.

Miyashiro had back surgery (herniated disc) in March and was cleared to practice Wednesday. She isn’t sure if she’ll be ready for the Hawaii matches or if she’ll be named to the roster.

Kiraly said he’s looking forward to playing in Hawaii, one of his favorite places. He played here during the AVP stops back in the day.

He’s not coaching the team at the Pan Americans in Mexico. he’s still in Anaheim, working with those who didn’t make the roster, some who are rehabbing like Miyashiro.

Said he wouldn’t name a roster for the Brazil matches until right before (they open July 5 at UCI). said he likely will use different rosters for the matches.

Asked about the ‘Hawaii’ players. Said he’ll have to see how Miyashiro’s rehab goes but doesn’t want to push the process. These are just ‘friendlies’.

Asked about Danielson. He said they’re in contact with her.

Asked about Hartong. He said they had her during the training block a few months ago. and, as we know, she is rehabbing from surgery. She is in the mix for the rest of the quad, not at the moment.

the recurring theme from all involved: 1 vs. 2. Does it get any better?

    *** Brazil has a history of not using their top players in friendlies.

    *** Emily is in Zurich, Switzerland, will be back in Cali on the 18th. She might just be on a vacation but a more logical reason for a girl who wants to play pro ball is VBC Volero Zurich who had several players leave the team, maybe she’s getting a tryout ?

    +++ they do.
    +++ think more likely a tryout-interview than vacation.

    Considering that they already had a jersey with her name and number on it I’ll suggest that it was a done deal before she even left here. 😉
