Hartley getting the start, along with Averill, Kanetake, Franciskovic, Fey, Holt, Sedore. Zarkovic standing on his ankle so we’ll see if we see him later.
Hawaii up 15-14 at the TTO. very tight match so far
Christenson’s tough serving has SC up 20-18
Fey has a 1-on-1, hits wide. it’s 21-18. TO UH
UH has held off a couple of set point. Was 24-21. it’s not 24-23. TO SC
Christenson aces his cousin Fey on SC’s seventh set point. SC wins 30-28
Cindy, were you close enough to see if that hit off the block that gave USC the 7th set point hit the USC hitter as UH claimed?
7. no, i was on the other side of the court and didn’t have a good look.
UH up 12-7 in Set 2. Sedore started it off with 2 aces.
Another ace by Sedore, makes it 14-7. Tuileta let to play back row.
Fey needs to pick up his game!
UH up 15-8 at the TTO.
10. hard to do when he’s only been set once this set.
Great dig by Kanetake. another kill by Hartley. it’s 20-10
Holt blocked, his first hitting error. SC has pulled back to 21-15. it was 21-11. nice serving run by Tuileta. TO UH
UH wins 25-17. some great serves by Sedore, 3 aces in Set 2.
Glad UH won that second set, Kanetake/Jennings and Brook have been fantastic but Fey will need to step it up or maybe bring in Mol, UH needs something from that position.
SC ended up hitting negative 067. 8-10-30. they were much deeper until their late run. UH hit .240. Sedore 9-1-15, Averill 4-09, Hartley 6-2-12 including a back row attack. 17 digs, 7 by Kanetake.
UH with 5 total aces, 9 SEs. SC with 6 aces, 9 SEs overall. SC no aces, 2 SEs in Set 2.
UH up 10-5. TO SC. Hawaii had 4 blocks in its first 5 points.
Kanetake with a kill!. another UH block makes it 12-6
Uh block is great, Micah is not fooling them tonight
Averill with the kill. UH up 15-9 at the TTO. Don’t know if the Trojans will pull it together after this. Ferguson not a happy camper.
Kudos to Jennings for improving his serve alot just in a few short weeks and also his defense, his future is so bright. I don’t think there’s a better athlete at the setting position in the country, except for Micah of course. Plus he’s the best blocking setter UH has had since Beckwith.
SC out of rotation when Rivera went back to serve after he had served in the previous rotation. Sedore with a solo stuff. it’s 20-12. TO SC.
At the moment SC using a lot of subs so they may go back to their starters in Set 4.
Hartley is such a feel good story. He’s doing so great.
UH hasn’t let a couple of bad calls go against them. It’s 22-16
Monster kill by Averill. Think he was a bit upset at the bad calls. it’s 23-17
Wow Averill from the backrow is amazing. Another reason I wish he was opposite and Brook was OH1.
Sedore with his 13th kill. he is 13-1-25. UH wins 25-18
Set 1 was so tight. 19 ties, 9 lead changes.
Hawaii has led from the start of both Sets 2 and 3. UH with 7 blocks in Set 3.
Averill is 8-0-16. Hartley 9-3-18. Kanetake with 11 of the 29 digs.
SC has switched liberos.
27. if he were at OPP he wouldn’t be hitting the BIC. He’s just started using that shot.
Can’t believe how many overpasses UH botches. those should be easy points 🙁
Hartley hits long. SC up 10-5. TO UH
SC up 15-9 at the TTO. first time the Trojans have gotten to 15 first.
Wow UH does not look good at all in this fourth set. The emotion they were playing with in the third is gone too.
Sedore with his sixth block, Hartley gets the kind tape roll for an ace. UH has closed to 20-15. TO SC
Fey is still hitting negative, ouch, just a horrible match for him. Hope he does some good things in the fifth set . Fey needs to pick it up cause I could see Hartley steal his starting spot when Siki comes back.
Hawaii has closed to 22-18. TO SC
Yikes, another overpass situation blown by UH.
Christenson blocks Averill on the service overpass then has an ace. It’s 24-18. TO UH
38. i’d give Christenson some credit on that. He has been the national team setter after all.
another aces by Christenson ends it 25-18
I don’t think USC played all that great in set 4, some big plays by Micah ,but UH was just flat and awful. Hope they wake up for the fifth.
42. They didn’t play great but outblocked UH 6-1
Hartley with a solo stuff and UH up 6-3. TO SC
Great start. Hartley!!!
Siki looks like a completely different person with his glasses.
Way too many net violations
Hartley is playing out of his mind!
Sedore gets the touch call and Hartley with an ace. UH up 8-5 at the change over
Fey with his seventh kill. UH up 9-5. TO SC
Hartley for MVP, And ive been ragging on Fey all match, but he delivered on that swing and what a set by Jennings!! Good time to get his best kill.
geez Hartley destroyed that ball. USC had no chance digging that one
SC back to within 13-12. TO UH
47. agree with the net violations. giving away way too many easy points
UH mistakes ugh. bad rotation, we need Averill in there.
Wow what a complete meltdown.
Lord their radio guy is obnoxious. anyway, SC takes match point at 14-13. TO UH. not a good rotation for the Warriors
Wow Sedore is clutch tonight.
Geez it’s taking forever to get Averill in there again.
Grat match SC wins 20-18
Wow that looked like it was going out. Just terrible. ugh
They really let this one slip away.
We need Siki back, if Hartley come keep playing like this, maybe he can start at Oh2.
Gave it away at the end. That one hurt.
UH let SC back into this one with all those tip shots…Poor passing & poor choices down the stretch…
Hartley has two good matches and you’re calling for FEY to be out? Newsflash, while fey isn’t offensively outstanding, his defense anchors the team. THATS Why he plays. Hartley did great but he’s not replacing siki or fey
I could see Hartley replacing Fey, especially on nights when fey plays like this. Kanatake and Siki anchor the defense IMO.
This one hurts, and EVERY match counts if you want to win the league and get a at large bid to the NCAA.
Let this one slip away now they have to go on the road and sweep some teams, can’t split at home and on the road.
And when hartley has a bad match, you’ll be calling for him to be out. Did fey struggle tonight? Yes. But does he usually struggle. No. He’s usually the best passer on the team, minus kanetake.
I honestly haven’t been impreseed with Fey’s offense for a while now, not just tonight He needs to pick it up! and it’s nice to know that Hartley could come in and play well against top competition.
Fey played fine. He’s a little undersized out there but he is a solid passer. Hawaii didn’t start to tighten up at the end and, as I mentioned. SC had fresher arm and legs when bringing back some of their starters at the end.
Spoke with Ferguson after briefly. He was impressed with UH. Said he always knows that Sedore will have a great night against them.
We agreed that SC’s serving at the end limited some of the options for Franciskovic, especially to Averill. He was 1-1-3 in Set 5.
Career-high in digs for Kanetake (18) and season-high for the team in aces (9).
I guess I should be upset that they loss and I am to a degree but overall I’m not disappointed with the way the Warriors played tonight. Towards the end of the fifth set they couldn’t overcome the pressure of USC’s serving and got stalled in their weakest rotation and loss their lead but even then they were still in it.
Their errors cost them in the end but overall the way they played will pay off in the long run.
72. completely agree. they got stuck in their weakest rotation and SC’s serving was very tough at the end
BTW, apparently Siki will not be making the next road trip. At least that is what Hartley said.
Have a good night all. Going to close the thread for the night. Will start a new one tomorrow.
