Not to mention casey castillo who’s wave team places 9.

  2. Brandon February 18, 2014 3:32 pm

Also is Robert vansant kristas father?

  3. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 3:44 pm

    2. you could always check the UW bio for that … 😉
her father’s name is listed as Robert

  4. Brandon February 18, 2014 3:47 pm

Gotcha thanks. I’m wondering how casey did with her wave team and if she had a good ammount of playing time

  5. sasa February 18, 2014 3:56 pm

Wasn’t a sand volleyball recruit also there? Kendra Koelsch (?).

  6. LC February 18, 2014 4:08 pm

Followed it all on twitter over the weekend.Rancho is a very good team, excellent ball control and I’m expecting them to be in the mix for the National Championship.

  7. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 4:12 pm

    5. probably. There were 136 teams in the 18 Open, 220 in 18 Club if you feel like wading through the rosters

  8. Vee February 18, 2014 4:25 pm

Any word about a Spring Exhibition match for the Wahine Volleyball team? I’ve been without access to HNL paper, but the exhibition match isn’t ever well advertised anyway and easy to miss. Isn’t it usually in March sometime?

  9. sasa February 18, 2014 4:30 pm

North Shore Volleyball sent a young team of 15 and 16 year olds to compete in the 18’s Club division and came in 3rd. They have a great freshman setter in Sharae Niu, and I hope UH has their eye on her.

  10. Nana February 18, 2014 4:36 pm

@Brandon Imi Ike also beat Wave in 3 sets. I hear Castillo did not get on the court during that match.

  11. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 5:35 pm

usually in March. haven’t heard anything.

  12. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 5:36 pm

thanks for the info Sasa. see updated post.

Kalei Greeley played well, made all-tournament team, mentioned on Rancho Valley site. Understand that details of matches come out tomorrow.

  15. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 6:32 pm

    14. thanks. I couldn’t find all-tournament teams

  16. ClawsBeatSkin February 18, 2014 8:43 pm

All this excitement over a Las Vegas tourney?? Hawaiians do love their westcoast VB; Vegas is second “home” (to many locals) this is definitely true.

Alas. The Q I have is whom will we be seeing in Rio? Does Micah or Kawika make it?
It’ll be one or the other, I’m almost certain, & NOT both.
Micah and Tui will lead USC next 2015..in what ends up being Micah’s Sr year.

**I ask because–as I’ve seen it time and time and time and again–Ryan Ammerman will return, to the USA, after his eastern European contract is up this 2014, he’ll remain a soft spot for UCLA’s head, he’s a 6’8″ setter who had Irvine in the 2009 mix (along with Pepperdine, CSUN, and even PSU that year).

The 1st title for a coach is always nice (07)..the second is ALWAYS primo however.
Southern Cal had that Natl Championship too, btw (in 09).

    Anyway.

  17. ClawsBeatSkin February 18, 2014 9:04 pm

Why has Kailua become so “trendy”?

  18. ItsOnYou February 18, 2014 9:17 pm

Reed Sunahara was appointed HC for SUNY (in Buffalo, NY) a number of weeks ago. I don’t recall reading it here on VShots.

That midsection of the continent (plus Toronto CN) makes for great recruiting grounds. It’s always nice, seemingly, when the Midwest/east can do well for the sport of volleyball.

Sweet Home High was a definite power back in the day. Happy Valley is a positive influence in the general area to boot.

Cindy, San Diego was home to Taeatafa and Boyer at the time (two national top eight recruits at the time). Who did they (da Panthers) have in western NY at the time–where did those GVB superstars end up?

    K-thanks.

  19. ItsOnYou February 18, 2014 9:20 pm

“at the time”..it’s time to go moemoe. 🙂

  20. Brandon February 18, 2014 9:48 pm

^ok what. Seriously this person has the grammatical skills of a peanut and makes about as much sense as a two year old. I never understand their post

  21. Cindy Luis February 18, 2014 9:57 pm

    18. thanks CBS.IOY/TO. hadn’t noticed that about Sunahara.
Do wish you’d stick to one user name

  22. vballfreak808 February 18, 2014 10:16 pm

    14. That post about Greeley making All-Tournament team is from the 2013 GJNC in Dallas during the summer. I don’t believe they have All-Tournament teams in qualifiers.

  23. WaWa February 19, 2014 1:07 am

That they don’t, well at least to the ones I’ve been to. However, the Las Vegas tourney is not a qualifier & more a showcase.

  24. Tryouts February 20, 2014 12:22 pm

I could tell you guys what the varying flights may be for LBSU 49ers–the 1st ones up on the Sand VB schedule, but then I’d have to take it all back *which one can’t do on this blog*.

Taeatafa’s daughter is back on the westcoat from Iowa State (probably strictly on the sand).

Interesting, also, that as far as the rest of the world is concerned, the biggest recruit for UH *this 2014, indoor WVB* is the Farrington Gov. She’s a only/TOP recruit.

  25. Brandon February 20, 2014 12:54 pm

Kalei Greeley is a top recruit according to prepvolleyball but according to volleuball magazine she is not

  26. Cindy Luis February 20, 2014 12:58 pm

and many of UH’s all-americans and all-conference players were not ‘top’ recruits out of high school. the lists are very subjective, particularly VBM

  27. Brandon February 20, 2014 1:27 pm

Also kahakai had a huge jump in vbm. She was in the eighties from prep volleyball but jumped to the fifties in vbm. I personally prefer prep, but even they mess up. And Cindy’s right. Most of uhs stArs were not ranked high. Hewitt, hartong, aneli, Houston was 16 so that’s kinda high, so was kanoe.

  28. ItsOnYou February 20, 2014 2:26 pm

Why? ‘Brandon’ was a ‘top’ recruit out of hs. Heck even the Ime Ike 2nd asst. was a top recruit (same position actually). Are people sure that it’s Mita??

Poho when those top recruits take a nose dive some where along the way. But, egh! ..Teek, herself, went five years at UH being some “body” in high school. Good for her that she got five years on scholarship *like some SLO graduate (Hilo HI class of ’91) Hi. State VB POY*.

My guess is that some one, will not touch this one…la de da de de da de da.

  29. Brandon February 20, 2014 2:30 pm

What? I did not understand anything you were trying to say other than that tk did not do so good at UH

  30. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 2:51 pm

Re: shut up already, no one can understand anything you say.

  31. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 3:00 pm

reply meant for 28. “Itsonyou” aka Msrpantoja1@Huh.’A’loha aka Huh aka Eyeoncindy aka ClawsBeatSkin aka Ingoodstanding aka Purple&Gold and so on……..

    Ugh enough of your gibberish.

  32. Tryouts February 20, 2014 3:35 pm

    28. NO!

  33. nana February 20, 2014 3:38 pm

Kahakai made fab 50 in Volleyball Magazine, Greeley is not on that list. Granato and Castillo made the Notable 30 underclassmen to watch. Good recruiting for Hawaii

  34. Brandon February 20, 2014 3:47 pm

Granato and castillo were also prepvolleuball top 50 juniors. I expect castillo to be higher. 20-30 and granato will be 30-40 (prepvolleuball) but both could he higher because castillo is supposedly one of the best players in the SoCal area

  35. ClawsBeatSkin February 20, 2014 4:08 pm

6.2 OH Courtney Schwan (Tacoma, WA) is headed for UDub:
    2x WA State VB MVP

    USA Natl VB team member
    Prepvolley.com Top 25 recruit
    VBM Fab50 selection
Fellow classmate/GPOY/team ‘select’ HS AA member to Hi.’s “travelin’”Alohi Robins-Hardy

The legacy that Schwan wants to leave behind is to step off the court with people knowing that “anyone I ever come across, I treated kindly and fairly and [was] good to people, whether it be an opponent, a friend or a stranger.”

    ..I like!! (check-marked) 🙂

  36. Tryouts February 20, 2014 4:17 pm

Ho ‘Claws’, how did UW come so good? When, and why, did UH start heading the opposite direction??

Does ANY one want to tackle that BIG Q?

Shoji has always had assistants coming and going over there on lower campus Manoa.

  37. Brandon February 20, 2014 4:26 pm

Are you really having convos with yourself now. And why do you keep bringing up things that don’t even pertain to hawaii. Like seriously STOP

  38. Tryouts February 20, 2014 4:34 pm

Cindy is beloved. She loves Hawai’i. I hope that Hawaii can appreciate and has/had loved her.

  39. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 5:21 pm

Oh great UH is up to a crappy start against USC.

  40. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 5:24 pm

I see USC is still full of d’bags.

  41. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 5:31 pm

All these hitting errors, olsen and Siki again ugh!!

  42. ItsOnYou February 20, 2014 5:52 pm

UH and $C are going to split this weekend.

I can remember in the latter 90s when Kari, Pele, a Snt Cl / I.L.H. Bronco, Christine Everett, etc. etc won that spring, Hilo tourney. They had truly a great team also..good setter es why.

In 2010-11, at that same Hilo tournament, All-Am’s @OH,MB,Setters were coached by UH’s #1 Ass. also (at the time). That UHM team was also well coached and victorious against the ‘Rusty’.

  43. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:01 pm

Did great in second set, now back to sucking in the third.

  44. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:02 pm

    42. No one cares !

  45. ItsOnYou February 20, 2014 6:04 pm

& I’ve yet to try Li Hing Mui malasadas from Leonards also.
    So what?

  46. ClawsBeatSkin February 20, 2014 6:09 pm

    45. What do you mean “So what?” ?
    Cool your jets already!

  47. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:23 pm

    46. stop talking to yourself…..crazy.

Anyway UH loses first set 25-17, wins second set 25-15 and then loses third 25-14
What a jekyll and Hyde team today ugh.
Sedore, Siki and especially Olsen stinking it up.

  48. Tryouts February 20, 2014 6:24 pm

    She’s still MUCH beloved.
    #s6:24-26

  49. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:28 pm

UH just needs to keep setting their middles all the outsides aren’t getting the job done.

  50. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:32 pm

    These USC announcers really suck.

  51. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:33 pm

UH can’t play any defense all of a sudden, and are probably gonna lose.

  52. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:34 pm

Olsen another negative hitting night, not what you want out of one of your senior captains.

  53. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:42 pm

Thank god for Taylor Averill. He’s been amazing.

  54. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:44 pm

Wow UH can’t dig anything, ugh.

  55. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:46 pm

Huge swing to tie it at 22 , and Siki gets roofed , he’s just so error prone.

  56. Warriorfan February 20, 2014 6:49 pm

And they lose..not a good lost IMO, rematch is a must win.

  57. Cindy Luis February 20, 2014 7:04 pm

see new thread. agree that a split is key

  58. Cindy Luis February 20, 2014 7:13 pm

45-46. It is so weird when you start arguing with yourself using different names.
    47. thank you.
