Hawaii 3, South Dakota 0 live updates

Wahine a little laet in starting, guess because of the earlier non-tourney match for Wichita State and SEMO?

starting for Hawaii, Hartong, Taylor, Vorster, Adolpho, Manu-Olevao, Uiato, and Longo.

oddly enough, WSU stats has Hagins starting for UH. think they didn’t update with Taylor.

wahine win 25-19. stats in a bit

  11. manu September 19, 2013 3:34 pm

Hawaii wins 1st set. 25 – 19. Does my eyes deceive me? Stephanie Hagins?

  12. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:35 pm

Hagins should be Taylor in the box.

  13. Beauston September 19, 2013 3:35 pm

11 shes back for this match only.

  14. Volleyball fan September 19, 2013 3:35 pm

Maverick, Hagins is no longer with us. Haven’t you noticed that they made an error in live stats? I think they meant Nikki Taylor who probably got Stephanie Hagin’s number I presume.

  15. Maverick September 19, 2013 3:36 pm

Danielson will be subbing in for Hartong. Ah Mow coming in for Uiato. Shoji at libero.

  16. Beauston September 19, 2013 3:36 pm

    6 but I paid for vid/audio

    16. I’m thinking about asking for a refund. No audio, no purchase.

  19. manu September 19, 2013 3:40 pm

OK. Just saw the mix-up. supposed to be Nikki Taylor

  20. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:42 pm

yes, have said that twice that it’s Taylor not Hagins. ‘-)

  21. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:43 pm

    16. you can get live stats for free. i didn’t know you had paid for audio. shouldn’t deter you from going to game tracker

  22. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:44 pm

SD has switched liberos. former libero goes to OH.
    It’s 8-8. TO UH.

  23. Beauston September 19, 2013 3:44 pm

South Dakota going toe to toe with Wahine. Hmmmm

  24. Maverick September 19, 2013 3:47 pm

    16. I believe there is no audio because there is no broadcast of this non-Wichita st. game. So looks like video only. You can listed to 1420, but there is a delay between the audio and the video. Sucks.

  25. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:47 pm

    23. wouldn’t put too much into it. as mentioned, you’ve got a team that doesn’t play to the speed hawaii sees in practice. they will adjust to the softball shots UH on an 3-0 run up 11-8

  26. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:49 pm

but as we know, Hawaii hasn’t been great against the dink. wahine expecting even the soft shot to be hit harder . UH down 15-13.

  27. Volleyball fan September 19, 2013 3:51 pm

20: Cindy, you said that you you mentioned twice that it was Nikki Taylor. Your messages didn’t come up on time. I now realize that I have to hit the refresh button to get your latest comments. If we wait five minutes and comment, we miss whatever was posted until we refresh. So please don’t get annoyed with us for not noticing your comment. We just didn’t see it.

  28. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:51 pm

can we quit complaining here about the audio/video ? sorry that you paid for it but if you want to complain, do so to WSU. please/

  29. LC September 19, 2013 3:54 pm

I bet everyone in the building is saying ..Really #7,This is the 7th best team ?

  30. manu September 19, 2013 3:54 pm

I guess WSU didn’t get the Wahines current roster because Stauber in in the line up too…..

  31. Maverick September 19, 2013 3:56 pm

    28. if it bothers you that much, please feel free to delete all the posts. Life is too short.

  32. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:56 pm

    tied at 20.
    sorry if i seem annoyed.

  33. manu September 19, 2013 3:57 pm

    21 – 21. c’mon Wahines!

  34. manu September 19, 2013 3:58 pm

    time out Dakota. Hawaii 23 – 21

  35. Maverick September 19, 2013 3:58 pm

    32. No problem–we’ve all been there.

  36. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 3:58 pm

    31. sorry just asking to stop since the complaints should be directed to someone who can help.UH up 23-21. TO SD

  37. Beauston September 19, 2013 3:59 pm

29 yup, against a team clearly playing like me and my friends would intoxicated in the back yard.

  38. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:00 pm

    Taylor with the kill. 25-21

  39. manu September 19, 2013 4:00 pm

    Whew…Right on. Wahines takes 2nd set. 25 – 21

  40. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:00 pm

They block better than me and my friends do, heck better than Wahine.

  41. LC September 19, 2013 4:01 pm

    15 ties in that set.

  42. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:01 pm

    36. No worries. BTW, I like the distribution of sets from Uiato. Hartong only getting 25%. She and Olevao have about the same workload so far. Good distributions to the middle and OPP.

  43. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:02 pm

    41 embarassing

  44. Grace September 19, 2013 4:03 pm

Wow….put Ashley Kastl in…she might bring some energy and kills to the team.
She is rotting on the bench! We don’t look like a 7th ranked team anyway. Against South Dakota???

  45. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:03 pm

Another match in which UH is being outblocked.

  46. Volleyball fan September 19, 2013 4:04 pm

Beauston, I hope you can get a refund as you didn’t get the service promised, although I don’t trust Koch Arena and the Koch Brothers. They are notorious! I deliberately boycott them. Sorry you got shafted by them.

  47. LC September 19, 2013 4:07 pm

I guess we can blame jet lag, travel, etc.

  48. LC September 19, 2013 4:09 pm

I remember one time I flew non stop to Dallas and I was all out of wack the next day.

  49. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:09 pm

46 just realized they probably dont have the budget for the announcer to begin with hence there’s no audio. I cant imagine how expensive it is but at this point, who knows anymore. Theres barely anyone in the gym.

  50. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:09 pm

    47. I’d rather blame lack of focus. I don’t like travel excuses. It has a way of diminshing UH victories at home.

  51. oldtimer808 September 19, 2013 4:10 pm

quarterback coaches abound geez the Wahines are winning enjoy the team and let the coaches coach because I’m sure you wouldn’t have a clue on how to coach at this level or any level.

  52. manu September 19, 2013 4:10 pm

    3rd coming up

  53. oldtimer808 September 19, 2013 4:11 pm

Mahalo Cindy for the updates….I was cracking up when I first checked the live stats and saw Hagins and Stauber playing.

  54. LC September 19, 2013 4:11 pm

Looks like the got the line up straighten out.

  55. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:14 pm

    54. I m sure Blane said something. you could hear his hesitation when he was reading the stats and read over Hagins name
Manu-Olevao with the overpass. UH up 6-5

  56. manu September 19, 2013 4:16 pm

    kastl is in.

  57. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:18 pm

Someone’s reading a book in the gym. Hilarious

  58. Grace September 19, 2013 4:18 pm

Kastl wants to play….She bring more energy to team…sometimes Manu looks lazy

  59. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:19 pm

sorry again for being so short .should take my own advise. taking my frustrations out against those who have no control over things.
such as I was supposed to have another story in before the match started. so I did, getting up early to do so. now they are holding it for a week. been a long month.

  60. LC September 19, 2013 4:19 pm

They do not look sharp at all but like I said I fly a lot and I am always messed up when I go east.

  61. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:20 pm

LC, agree. they flew over night. long travel day if they didn’t get in until yesterday afternoon I always think it’s tougher to fly East than West.

  62. manu September 19, 2013 4:21 pm

    another close match….

  63. Grace September 19, 2013 4:22 pm

Even if Kastl got blocked please notice how the team moves around when kastl is in

  64. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:22 pm

plus first road trip, new arena. UH up 16=13. TO SD

  65. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:22 pm

In fairness to them its been a long pre season I feel like.

  66. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:23 pm

    I like Kastl’s block.

  67. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:27 pm

    65. true

SD has closed to 17-16. TO UH. Manu-Olevao with a kill. it’s 18-16

  68. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:28 pm

UH pulls away at 20-16. TO SD

  69. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:29 pm

Middles are hitting very well. Everyone else is down tonight.

  70. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:29 pm

South Dakota has only 5 kills in set 3.

  71. manu September 19, 2013 4:30 pm

If they can hang on that lead and not peter-out in the end. c’mon Wahines!

  72. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:30 pm

Really concern with Hartong’s hitting % as of late

  73. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:33 pm

    OMG

  74. Grace September 19, 2013 4:33 pm

Is Emily injured? She looks a little weary than normal.
    I hope not!

  75. Maverick September 19, 2013 4:33 pm

    Winning ugly.

  76. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:33 pm

    UH sweeps 25-21

  77. manu September 19, 2013 4:34 pm

Good Job Wahines! Now get some rest and do it again tomorrow night!

  78. manu September 19, 2013 4:35 pm

Thanks Cindy. sorry for annoying you earlier…didn’t see the earlier posts.

  79. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 4:35 pm

back in a bit. have to post some breaking stuff

  80. Beauston September 19, 2013 4:38 pm

When you look at numbers, it looks like Wahine demolished South Dakota. An ugly win indeed.
Kudos to them for not giving a set away so they can rest up. Everyone looks beat up.

  81. mei mei September 19, 2013 4:43 pm

great job ladies 1st away game of the season, under the belt, agree with everyone jet-lagged i’m sure contributed to the ugly win, but a win is win!

  82. LC September 19, 2013 4:47 pm

    Hartong with a double,double.

Blocking close 7.5 – 6 in favor of SD

    UH 4 aces.

    25 Ties

  83. ruffles September 19, 2013 4:48 pm

you all do realize that Hawaii just beat a team that was 9-3 with a 7 game win streak on a neutral court after traveling from Hawaii. as good teams do they closed out the games when it counted, at the end.

  84. Grace September 19, 2013 5:04 pm

Gosh….This will be a tough weekend for the wahines. Our girls are human and will have many bad games and matches. Beating Texas and UCLA only makes them a target for other teams and distasteful comments by diehard fans or jealous opponents. The ride to postseason will not be a smooth one in this long season for them since they are recognized as a top 10 elite. Time to put thid match behind and get ready for Creighton and Wichita St. They want to dethrone us just like we did to Texas. Think about it!

  85. LC September 19, 2013 5:13 pm

Jet lag, medically referred to as desynchronosis, is a physiological condition which results from alterations to the body’s circadian rhythms resulting from rapid long-distance transmeridian (east–west or west–east) travel on a (typically jet) aircraft. It was previously classified as one of the circadian rhythm sleep disorders.

The condition of jet lag may last several days until one is fully adjusted to the new time zone, and a recovery rate of one day per time zone crossed is a suggested guideline.

  86. jmy September 19, 2013 5:29 pm

Cal having a tough time with UC Davis…

  87. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 5:30 pm

sorry, Shoji called and needed to take that
will be posting some comments on a new thread then have to write a story. Be back later

  88. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 5:36 pm

    84. Grace, no longer need to put the S at the end of Wahine. they haven’t used it in years. ‘-)
OMG as someone said. They won in 3, won on a neutral site in 83 minutes. played well when they had to. used all 13 players they brought (not 14 as we thought they might have) first road trip of the year, after a very long travel day going east. against a pretty decent team that should win its conferrence with an unorthodox style of play (left handed middle, left handed oppostie, setter who is offensive minded and we know how UH does against those).
UH’s physicalness was key at the end of each set
Point, as someone mentioned. is they won in 3. no one is giving style points in the W-L column.
comment: looks like they dominated in the stats. Hard to argue they didn’t. It didn’t look pretty if someone watched the match.

  89. jmy September 19, 2013 5:38 pm

    Davis up 2-1 against Cal…

  90. RedZone September 19, 2013 5:41 pm

All in all a good job by the Wahine.

  91. Ashley September 19, 2013 5:43 pm

    74. I didn’t view the match, in fact i actually over slept, so I missed the entire game. Thank you to everyone for the updates. But anyways, I know earlier in the week Emily had apparently fell down some stairs according to one of her teammates. she has a ugly bruise on her right thigh. it looks sore, so maybe that is why.

  92. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 5:47 pm

Will be a very good win for the Aggies if they can hold on.

  93. jmy September 19, 2013 5:49 pm

Davis was down in the 4th…now tied up at 13…

  94. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 5:51 pm

    http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/custompages/Stats/Wvb/2013/UHWVB10.HTM
box is up if you want to look
    BTW, it was a career-high for Manu-Olevao
Hartong’s sixth double-double double, fourth for Uiato.

  95. K-Bay September 19, 2013 5:57 pm

    FIRST Is Winning
Especially Ability to Win “Ugly” when Not Everything going smooth or ʻYour Wayʻ
Then Winning Against Winning Teams, Consistently
Then Winning On the Road, Especially Travelling Eastward
Winning on the Other Teamʻs Home Court (To Follow, Similar to USD Versus UH)
Then Winning Without Dropping Games (More Consistently)
    Then Winning in Playoffs
Then (Ideally) Winning All the Way Through Playoffs

Na Wahine Are On their Way…

[As Cindy might have been Politely Pointing Out,
There is NO “S” in the Hawaiʻian Language —
“Na Wahine” IS The Plural Form of Wahine ]

  96. jmy September 19, 2013 6:04 pm

    Davis won it in four…

  97. Msrpantoja1@Huh.'A'loha September 19, 2013 6:13 pm

was in mom’s neck of the woods today. went into the Black Bear Diner. drove by the 7 Cedars Casino..I didn’t go in there. thought about SD/Hi./Wa. ohana.

& no *in moderation* gambling is not a sin.

tho He is so good; He comforts and keeps us all.

  98. LanaiBoy September 19, 2013 6:14 pm

Watched the Cal-Davis match on video. UC Davis looked impressive. Very energetic, nice blocking, and great floor defense throughout the match. Great win for the Big West. If only Long Beach State had come through against UCLA. Big West teams have to win against their non-conference opponents to boost its reputation and RPI.

  99. jmy September 19, 2013 6:18 pm

After the first set, Davis hit very well…

  100. Purple&Green September 19, 2013 6:19 pm

Poignant- being to the point; cutting; piercing.

“There are two POIGNANT AVCA ranked teams playing in this weekend’s Shockers VB Classic.”
..soon to be three in WSU.
    🙂

  101. Cindy Luis September 19, 2013 7:01 pm

like the 7 Cedars Casino very much. they have some really good seafood there.
It will be a good test for the Wahine, first against Creighton Friday and against a anticipated large home crowd Saturday

  102. Grammy September 19, 2013 9:17 pm

Just enough at the end to win is more than enough for me. No games went into deuce/ot. No sets dropped. If they can’t be satisfied with their game this evening, they will never be able to be satisfied with any sort of victory short of straight set national championship. Which isn’t about to be this team’s path to end of the season. They will have to find challenge, look defeat in eye, stand up to every blow opponent can bring and remain standing and win. Don’t see any other way for this team, but can see it happening for sure it’s possible. Go Wahine!
