Hawaii moving up to #10 is a big and pleasant surprise. I guess you can credit their scheduling, with their pre-conference opponents doing really well. If Hawaii can beat Davis and Northridge, it will not lose too much when they play Riverside, with its RPI at #294.

  3. frings November 18, 2013 10:56 am

    Wow…a very pleasant surprise indeed!

  4. LC November 18, 2013 11:08 am

I predict that Missouri will fall flat on their face in the NCAA Tournament, talk about overrated,

  5. Cubicle1126 November 18, 2013 11:16 am

LC — i too have a lot of questions about how good missouri is. the problem is that they’re headed for a high seed, and it’s possible — because of their location — they could be “gifted” a cake-walk to at least the regional… we’ll have to see how they’re seeded and where they’re placed in the bracket.

  6. lowtone123 November 18, 2013 11:16 am

Hopefully if they stay there or even move up they can think of hosting. No slip ups…they move down and (ugh!) Road Warriors.

  7. pacesetterhawaii November 18, 2013 12:01 pm

Na Wahine should take care of business for the next two weeks especially these coming 2 matches against Davis and Northridge. I am very sure that they can still go up in their RPI if they win out all the way. Let’s all rally behind them this weekend – GO BOWS! And don’t forget to vote for Emily – she needs our full support!

~~ From the WHO CARES! Department ~~
At the Start of Week 9 (of 10 Weeks of Conference Season)

Here’s the breakdown by conferences of the top 25 teams in the NCAA RPI, of which the top 10 are near certain (i.e. 95% certain) to be named 1 of the 16 seeded teams and with that seed comes a prestigious subregional (Rounds 1-2) hosting position, which can be turned down for whatever reason but it hasn’t happened yet.

This means there’s only 6 (at most) subregional hosting positions open, and these will be determined by the Volleyball [Selection] Committee. [Note: This year the Committee will consider seeding any top 25 team in the AVCA Poll, Pablo Ranking, or RichKern Poll that is not among the top 25 RPI. See footnote at bottom of this posting.]

    Big Ten
Top 25 : 5 of its 12 conference members are RPI candidates for hosting Rounds 1-2
Top 10 : 2 of the above (Penn State, Nebraska) are near certain Rounds 1-2 hosts
    Summary: 2 hosting, 3 “bubble”
FYI: *Add non-top-25 RPI Michigan St, Michigan, & Purdue for 6 total “bubble” (see bottom)
: Nebraska and Illinois are 2 of the 4 predetermined regionals

    Top 25 : 5 of 12
    Top 10 : 3 (Washington, USC, Stanford)
    Summary: 3 hosting, 2 “bubble”
FYI: *Add California, Oregon, & UCLA for 5 total “bubble”
: USC is 1 of the 4 predetermined regionals

    Top 25 : 3 of 13
    Top 10 : 3 (Florida, Missouri, Kentucky)
    Summary: 3 hosting
FYI: Kentucky is 1 of the 4 predetermined regionals

    Big 12
    Top 25 : 4 of 12
    Top 10: 1 (Texas)
    Summary: 1 hosting, 3 “bubble”

    Atlantic Coast/ACC
    Top 25 : 3 of 15
    Top 10: 0
    Summary: 3 “bubble”

    Big West/BWC
    Top 25: 1 of 9
    Top 10: 1 (Hawaii)
    Summary: 1 hosting
FYI: CSU Northridge is RPI #38 & UCSB is RPI #53. Neither is listed in the top 25 in the other polls under consideration.

    Big East
    Top 25 : 2 of 9
    Top 10 : 0
    Summary: 2 “bubble”

    West Coast/WCC
    Top 25: 1 of 10
    Top 10: 0
    Summary: 1 “bubble”
FYI: *Add BYU and St. Mary’s for 3 total “bubble”

    Mountain West/MWC
    Top 25 : 1
    Top 10 : 0
    Summary: 1 “bubble”

    * The following schools are NOT in the top 25 RPI but are in the top 25 in one of the other polls under consideration and thus qualify as a candidate to host a subregional: RPI #26 Michigan State, #27 Michigan, #28 California, #29 Oregon , #32 BYU, #41 Purdue, #42 UCLA, and #51 St. Mary’s.

  9. Warriorfan November 18, 2013 1:27 pm

I wouldn’t mind uh being in Missouri’s or florida’s side of the bracket two very over rated teams.

  10. Maverick November 18, 2013 1:30 pm

    7. UH’s RPI position may rise if they win this coming weekend, but I expect a drop during the last week of the season because of Riverside’s 1-24 record (even if UH runs the table).

  11. LC November 18, 2013 1:36 pm

Yes it could drop some after playing UCR but the non conference teams could balance that out or soften the blow if they have a decent week.

  12. jake November 18, 2013 2:34 pm

    4. LC, saw a number of missouri’s matches on ESPN3. i think they are for real.
they haven’t had to go to 5 in 30 matches. They’re the first team to defeat the gators
in three (3) on their home court. 9. I would not like to be in their bracket if they continue to
play at the level they are playing now. (IMHO). Good news on na wahine. now they need to finish up
(no more nail biting 5 setters).

  13. Warriorfan November 18, 2013 3:07 pm

Come on now Jake, Would you honestly rather be in Texas’, PSU’s, Washington’s ( hosting regionals ) side of the bracket Over Missouri’s bracket???

  14. setaone November 18, 2013 3:33 pm

I find it ironic how being idle this past week moved Hawaii up, but playing and winning might lower their RPI. To bad RPI doesn’t take into account the rest of the season so that there wouldn’t be such drastic movements.

  15. jake November 18, 2013 3:43 pm

    13. na wahine have defeated both texas and nebraska in regionals on their home court… why not?
i think we all underestimate missouri and their error free play (well at least how they’re playing right now).

  16. jmy November 18, 2013 4:32 pm

UH still needs to be Davis & CSUN…Let’s not overlook that…

  17. jake November 18, 2013 4:37 pm

yes, in 3 or 4 sets.

  18. Warriorfan November 18, 2013 4:50 pm

.15 I hate when people bring stuff up from nearly a decade ago. Different players different times. Missouri does not have players that can take over on the left like UT, PSU and UW so I’d rather face them.

  19. Warriorfan November 18, 2013 4:51 pm

Of course the wahine have to get back to playing their best like at the beginning of the season, otherwise they won’t even advance past the first round.

  20. jake November 18, 2013 5:59 pm

    18. memories dim not a decade. remember the SC regional when we defeated SC in LA with kanani, kaufman, hewitt, Cubi-Ontinero and went on to the final four… 2009? SC seems ripe to me IMHO

  21. Cindy Luis November 18, 2013 6:08 pm

    20. 09 they beat SC in the second round at SC, then went up to Stanford where they beat Illinois and Michigan before going to final four.

  22. jake November 18, 2013 6:41 pm

yup understood.. just dumbing down the 2009 regional. homing in on the LA/SC first round.

  23. Ainokea November 18, 2013 9:45 pm

Is it just me or after this season had gone on, I don’t see the same passion and fire in Vorster. She had several good matches, but i don’t see the same jade from last season. Possible transfer after this season?!?!?

  24. Warriorfan November 18, 2013 10:02 pm

    23. It’s just you!

  25. jake November 19, 2013 4:27 am

    23. yes… i saw hints of that also… but thought it was just me.

  26. Cindy Luis November 19, 2013 7:16 am

    23. I think it’s just you as well. If you had seen her play at UCSB two weeks ago you wouldn’t ask this. She is not transferring.

  27. setaone November 19, 2013 8:28 am

Sometimes we like to read between the lines even if something isn’t there. I know for a fact (since I’m an explayer) that not getting set during matches can be draining on a player. But to her credit, Jade has picked up in the blocking area.

  28. mauna November 19, 2013 10:45 am

    27. seaone. Yeah I know the feeling, like you just taking space and going thru the motions. Set me and get the flow of the game back.

  29. setaone November 19, 2013 1:08 pm

mauna….not only that…middles work hard, constantly in motion.
