about 15 minutes before first serve
Couple of UH connections have made the trek
Former Wahine Jen Roberts McGuire (1996-99) down from Waco where her husband Ryan (former Cal Baptist coach) in his first year. About a 90 minute drive

Dave Smith, UH baseball during the Tatsuno era, drove from Louisiana, about 5 hours.

ESPN will be using the Punahou School yearbook photo which has the Buffanblu basketball team coached by Chris McLachlin that had TAMU associate coach John Corbelli and Jay Anderson, Clare-Marie’s dad, in it.

COMMENTS

  1. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 2:34 pm

As mentioned earlier Jazzmin Barbers’ mom Sue Hemenway is here, She played in 1981 before a shoulder injury ended her career. Dad Dino Babers just took the job at Syracuse. Sue just dropped by to say hello.

  2. MAKA December 5, 2015 2:35 pm

Just hope they do well…win or lose…keep the errors to a minimum…go wahine..

  3. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 2:42 pm

TAMU on a 3-0 run. IT’s 12-8. TO UH. last point when Manu-Olevao and Kahakai both went for second ball and ball went out.

  4. warriorfan December 5, 2015 2:43 pm

Passing and setting issues again. Hope they clean this up asap.

  5. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 2:45 pm

Our front line needs a Boast from Kendra and Castillo which I know won’t happen. This is dreading to have 5’6″ and 5’10” players playing front…and yes she is not 6’0″

  6. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 2:50 pm

Koelsch came in with it tied at 15. UH up 18 – 16 on Koelsch’s dump. TO TAMU

  7. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 2:51 pm

See! No take one rocker scientist

  8. greenthumb December 5, 2015 2:53 pm

Team looking a lot more engaged today (meant nicely).

  9. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 2:55 pm

    UH wins 25-22.

  10. MAKA December 5, 2015 2:59 pm

Nice fast start… now keep the peddle to the floor n the pressure….UP

  11. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 2:59 pm

    Bleachercoach #7. lol

  12. Maverick December 5, 2015 2:59 pm

Statistically, OHs except for Greeley not having a great night. Big difference from yesterday is that UH not hitting into the block or making as many hittting errors. Middles continue to dominate.

  13. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 2:59 pm

That two unknowns announcing the game on stream is killing me. They keep saying bad set that Tayler gives to our MBS…we know that’s a shot we see all the time….a lot of double contact calls….1st time I have seen that on Higgons

  14. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 2:59 pm

Wahine hit 359, Magill and Maglio combined for 10 of UH’s 18 kills. Maglio 6-1-8, Magill 4-1-7. Both teams with 1 block each. Kahakai with 8 digs.

  15. warriorfan December 5, 2015 3:00 pm

Higgins can’t be making errors like that at this point, our middles are stars!!

  16. leron December 5, 2015 3:00 pm

Hawaii fans are spoiled with great tv coverage. This ESPN broadcast misses a lot of serves and the regular TAMU announcers get overexcited when the home team makes a big play.

  17. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:03 pm

Statistically. Taylor had a couple of swings that had no chance of going over. but they are hitting smarter. just got two off tools. UH was up 5-1, it’s 6-3

  18. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:05 pm

Assuming you’re talking about. she’s been called for 2 lifts that weren’t called yesterday. Angie setter should have been called for a couple that she hasn’t

  19. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:06 pm

    16. agree Hawaii fans are spoiled. TV coverage is excellent. This broadcast team is not very good.

  20. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 3:07 pm

    It’s a simple dig

  21. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:10 pm

Hawaii up 15-12 at the TTO

  22. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:13 pm

    Awesome, Savannah. Awesome.

  23. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 3:13 pm

Our girls are playing 100 times better than last night…More passion and effort in all the player…YES!!!!!

  24. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:13 pm

Agree about the how the team is playing. a lot calmer than yesterday. spoke to the trainer this morning. He talked about how the team got into a rhythm the more the got used to the venue.

  25. greenthumb December 5, 2015 3:13 pm

The callers are a little better than yesterday. (gave up on syncing my audio until after second set)

  26. Maverick December 5, 2015 3:14 pm

Statistically, Taylor has come alive hitting .312. TMO has too few attempts to make any conclusions. The block has come alive. And UH is getting hands on a lot of balls, even if the balls are going out off the block. Much better than yesterday.

  27. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:18 pm

UH up 21-17. TO Texas A&M

  28. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:18 pm

    25. it is the same team as yesterday for ESPN.

  29. Maverick December 5, 2015 3:19 pm

I hope everyone realizes the unsung hero tonite is Greeley who is hitting .571.

  30. greenthumb December 5, 2015 3:19 pm

28, yep, I was trying to say the two of them had improved a little. 😉

  31. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:20 pm

Think they are making the right moves. Shoji may be out of subs so Koelsch may be for the rest of the set.

  32. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:21 pm

was wrong Higgins back in. Kill by Magill makes it 23-18. TO TAMU

  33. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:23 pm

As well as Greeley is playing, Kahakai has a quiet 11 digs.
    Kill by Magill make

  34. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:23 pm

Magill’s shot location is making A&M guessing.

  35. T103 December 5, 2015 3:24 pm

Wow super confusing, going on the stat website and they have everything backwards, literally. Saying we lost set 1

  36. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:24 pm

    UH wins 25-19

  37. T103 December 5, 2015 3:26 pm

wow super confusing. Went to a couple of stat websites and they have all the stats literally backwards, saying we lost set one and loosing set 2.

  38. jmy December 5, 2015 3:28 pm

Kinda funny, if you look at the NCAA game center live stats, the stats for UH & TAMU are flipped…

  39. MAKA December 5, 2015 3:28 pm

I guess the peeps there and on tv etc. are seeing the real wahines…hope they close out the 3 set..

  40. jmy December 5, 2015 3:28 pm

    The Gametracker stats are correct…

  41. AlexM December 5, 2015 3:29 pm

Everyone is playing so much better than last night. Very focused and emotional at the same time. I almost wish we didn’t have this break between the 2nd and 3rd sets.

  42. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 3:29 pm

Yes Greeley gets my vote as well as Magill!
I think Greeley is probably one of the most important keys to our team. If we could get another 6’2″ player that can play backrow like her we would be unstoppable…Gosh I am not grumpy today…We look Legit tonite baby

  43. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:29 pm

    S2 win streak continues.

  44. Maverick December 5, 2015 3:30 pm

    33. Agree on Kahakai, she dug a couple of bombs in that second set. She’s been all over the court tonite.

  45. greenthumb December 5, 2015 3:31 pm

off topic, Babers and Sullivan (?) both have lots of black wrap on most all their fingers. Is that for traction or something? Hope their fingers aren’t that jammed up.

  46. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 3:32 pm

In an interview with one of the Texas AM.players after their won against Corpus Christi.she said we will beat Hawaii. “We can beat Hawaii!” she said.
If that’s not motivation then I don’t know what is..I was doing push-ups and jumping Jack’s after I heard that.

  47. Maverick December 5, 2015 3:33 pm

Dayton took set 2 off Penn State in dominating fashion, 25-13. Tied 1-1.

  48. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:40 pm

    UH up 9-4 TO TAMU

  49. warriorfan December 5, 2015 3:44 pm

Wahine looking good, Just spotted fomer wahine Nikki Thomas cheering them on, cool.

  50. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:44 pm

    UH up 13-5. TO TAMU.

  51. warriorfan December 5, 2015 3:46 pm

This is the wahine defense we all know and love.

  52. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:46 pm

    BWC #1 over SEC #1?

  53. Wen December 5, 2015 3:47 pm

Sweep, Sweep, Sweep! Plus the block is back.

  54. MAKA December 5, 2015 3:47 pm

Hope they are demoralized and we just keep this up.

  55. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:47 pm

Mahalos to the UH fans at the arena!

  56. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 3:48 pm

TAMU has closed to 13-9. TO UH

  57. warriorfan December 5, 2015 3:50 pm

Come on wahine don’t give them life.

  58. greenthumb December 5, 2015 3:51 pm

A&M out of timeouts already. Maybe Shoji can make use of that.

  59. PBnJz December 5, 2015 3:52 pm

Nice shots of our reserves enjoying a good match! Also was glad to see Nikki Thomas there! Jen Roberts was also one of my faves! Keep up the good work ‘Bows! My cats not enjoying me having both radio and ESPN3 audio on simultaneously…hope I can end their misery with just 3 sets!

  60. lina December 5, 2015 3:55 pm

Go Wahine! Come on girls !!!!!!

  61. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 3:56 pm

    TMO making some major saves!

  62. lina December 5, 2015 4:00 pm

    Yayyyy!!!!

  63. greenthumb December 5, 2015 4:01 pm

    woohooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  64. Cindy Luis December 5, 2015 4:02 pm

    UH wins 25-20

  65. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 4:02 pm

Penn St two sets to one vs Dayton.

  66. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 4:03 pm

    Redemption!

  67. tom December 5, 2015 4:03 pm

    WE WIN!!!!!

  68. Kalihifc December 5, 2015 4:03 pm

Was that Nickie Thomas in the crowd?

  69. greenthumb December 5, 2015 4:03 pm

58, my dog gave up again and is under the bed right now

  70. AlexM December 5, 2015 4:04 pm

WOW! Was not expecting a sweep! Great win. Congrats, Wahine!

  71. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:06 pm

Yes!!! I am proud to be Hawaiian! CheeHoo!!!

  72. OrbitalRipZ December 5, 2015 4:06 pm

After yesterday, no one — NO ONE — saw this sweep coming.

The Shoji haters completely disappeared from this room. REGIONALS at last!

It had everything to do with getting into back into rhythm — and that 13 day break from vball competition had everything to do with Na Wahine being out of system yesterday. We are back! GO BOWS!

  73. 'ohanaInBellingham December 5, 2015 4:08 pm

Penn St 9-7 vs Dayton in S4 with a 2:1 set lead.

  74. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:08 pm

Yes Brada Dino Babers…she could have been a Wahine (lol)

  75. Ashley December 5, 2015 4:08 pm

CONGRATS HAWAII! on to the sweet 16. was also so nice to see former wahine Nickie Thomas in attendance.

  76. HawaiiMongoose December 5, 2015 4:08 pm

Big West champs sweep the SEC champs! Nice to see that money hasn’t entirely taken over the sport yet.

  77. Wen December 5, 2015 4:09 pm

Maybe a rematch against Penn St.?

  78. Maverick December 5, 2015 4:10 pm

Finally, a dominant sweep win on a hostile court over the #15 AVCA, SEC champion, 12-1 home record and #10 seeded Texas A&M Aggies. If this doesn’t legitimize UH’s top ten AVCA ranking, then no one will be satisfied short of a championship. I’ve been waiting since the Florida match for a big win, particularly away from home, and this was it. Don’t care what the NCAA rules say, this was a home match for the Aggies.

  79. Steve December 5, 2015 4:12 pm

WHEW!!!! Great to see the Wahine back to the top of their game! Outstanding volleyball! Tonight they looked like the number 7 team in the country! GO BOWS!

  80. tongo December 5, 2015 4:13 pm

Saw Nikki Thomas on ESPN3 also. The volleyball gods were so unfair to her. Highly highly recruited great MH out of Texas but due to injuries – only played in senior season. Remember Mike Sealy saying Nikki was the best player on the team before the injuries. Wishing her the very best!

  81. darfire December 5, 2015 4:15 pm

Now THIS was a pretty game!!! Concur Maverick, if NCAA doesn’t sit up and take notice that we’re a legitimate #7 team, then they’re deaf, dumb and blind! On to the regionals! PLAY SMART, PLAY HARD, GO BOWS!

  82. kaleiguy December 5, 2015 4:16 pm

    AWESOME WIN!!!

  83. Steve December 5, 2015 4:17 pm

    77. Agree Maverick, but sad to see the many empty seats, even in the “lower bowl”…the SSC would have been packed and rockin’! (But that as been talked to death, so nevahmind!) GO BOWS!!!

  84. MAKA December 5, 2015 4:18 pm

Mongoose, think the football can do the same one day soon ?

  85. Steve December 5, 2015 4:19 pm

    68. Poor pooch! The only thing saving my voice was watching the game alone at home! If it were at the SSC then I would need some throat lozengers (sp?)!

  86. noblesol December 5, 2015 4:23 pm

Enjoy, before they take it down. Toward the end of the clip, the A&M player bachi’s themselves. Life lesson for A&M; there is never a need to sing your own praises, or talk about how you can beat the other team before you’ve played them. Just say you look forward to the match or some such.

“I was doing push-ups and jumping J.ack’s after I heard that.”

Lol. Really. And Wahine just kicked RPI okole big time. When #26 RPI Wahine waxes #6 RPI Aggies, your RPI ain’t worth hanabata

  89. KaimukiWahine December 5, 2015 4:26 pm

Loved how the Wahine didn’t let Texas A&M get into the game…no letdown! They pushed hard all the way. Adjustments were spot on. I was so afraid that they would be too tired after yesterday, but they proved me wrong! Even though Tai had a lousy hitting % she dug and blocked just fine. Not only that, she is the spirit and heart of this team! GO WAHINE!!!!!

  90. OrbitalRipZ December 5, 2015 4:27 pm

It’s official: Penn State U — the bullies of women’s volleyball — vs. UH in the Des Moines Regionals. The two masters meet for probably the last time in their storied careers. Shoji has never beaten Ross. GO BOWS!

  91. Steve December 5, 2015 4:27 pm

29 Previous thread: Mahalo Islandman for the post-game conference link. Really appreciate it…I’ll know where to look tomorrow…CHEEEHOOOO!

  93. HaikuGuy December 5, 2015 4:27 pm

Hawaii vs Penn State in the Sweet 16! Lets go Bows!

  94. kaleiguy December 5, 2015 4:29 pm

    Bring on Penn St.

  95. menehune December 5, 2015 4:31 pm

Although some players contributed more than others, this was definitely a team effort. Kahakai was a beast in the back row, taking some shots but keeping the ball in play; TMO, Anderson and Greeley made some fantastic saves.

This was definitely a morale booster for the team, knowing how dominant they can be if they play loose and with confidence.

On to the Regionals. LET’S GO BOWS.

  96. leron December 5, 2015 4:33 pm

Great win. If I’m TAMU, I’m angry at the NCAA for putting “unseeded” HAWAII in my regional. That’s not an unseeded team. 12th man didn’t know what hit them.

  97. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:38 pm

I love the picture of Kendra holding Granato. That is and appears the epitome of this year’s team. Very Businesslike, no drama problems, just Love!
I really can see that in the faces of all the girls on the sideline cheering the other players..In life, that is the most important things we should cherish…Back to Volleyball, SWEET 16 Baby!!!

  98. Ashley December 5, 2015 4:39 pm

How many unseeded teams in the sweet 16?

  99. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:39 pm

Sorry the picture of Koelsch holding Granato was on the front of sports paper today. LOVE IT!

  100. T103 December 5, 2015 4:42 pm

Cheeee! Awesome sweep! Bringing back that confidence that was no where to be found previous match! So Penn St. next friday, anyone got details? What time, hawaii time, and if it’s on REGULAR tv? So tired of sitting in my car listening to espy 1420. Can’t get it streaming on my computer (don’t ask!) and I ain’t got a radio in my house, hows that one?! lol Is the team staying up there for the week or coming back and flying to Iowa? Hopefully they can get some rest and heal up a little bit. Everyone played awesome! Greeley was beast!

  101. Maverick December 5, 2015 4:44 pm

    93. Stanford, Texas A&M and Louisville are the three seeds so far to lose.

  102. kamikazekid December 5, 2015 4:47 pm

If only Manu-Olevao could step up in the post season. She seems almost intimidated at times. You’re a senior, step up or step out sister. If she could play half decent, we could go far. She’s definitely a liability right now. I really thought that Kalei Greeley should have been 1st team Big West instead of TMO. I guess they gave it to her because she’s a senior. Sorry to be jumping all over her, but there has really been not improvement in her game since she arrived on campus.

  103. T103 December 5, 2015 4:47 pm

Anyone have that link to the live active brackets? I think it was somewhere in these threads the past couple of days?!

  104. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:48 pm

Wow after playing 5 sets yesterday we looked so fresh today. The team made a statement and it always appears like the announcers always would slight us a little. At the end, they started to praise Hawaii..

  106. Bleachercoach December 5, 2015 4:50 pm

The 12th Man got a taste of how we (me) felt in that 1999 match being 31-0 and losing to Texas AM in our sold out (10,000plus) crowd..A little redemption after 16 years…

  107. islandman December 5, 2015 4:50 pm

Serve reception, passing and setting was phenomenal, overall.

    93. Loyola-Marymount over Seed No. 8 Stanford, UH over Seed No. 10 TAMA, Illinois over Seed No. 15 Louisville.

3 other seeds — Seed No. 5 Washington, Seed No. 13 BYU, Seed No. 14 UCLA — either are still playing or have yet to play Round 2.

  110. MAKA December 5, 2015 4:59 pm

If anyone taped the past 2 games and is on the you tube, can you please
    post the link here ?

  111. doug December 5, 2015 4:59 pm

Savannah MVP today. I see why she got a full ride.

  112. jmy December 5, 2015 5:01 pm

Next up Penn St…Can UH beat the Nittany Lions? You bet!

  113. jmy December 5, 2015 5:11 pm

Funny how the NCAA’s Facebook posts celebrate two more seeded teams losing today…You’d think they’d try to downplay what a crummy job they did seeding the tourney…

  114. z December 5, 2015 5:37 pm

    Way to go Wahine!!!

  115. greenthumb December 5, 2015 5:51 pm

104 if you have access to an .edu server you should be able to log in to ESPN3 to watch, since ESPN makes it sound like computers on .edu networks get automatic access. Or maybe if you bring earbuds and go to a public library branch at an off-peak time?

Hopefully the NCAA TV page is wrong and we don’t have Friday’s match on ESPN3.

  116. tongo December 5, 2015 5:54 pm

#104 Both matches were streamed on ESPN3 and are available on replay. Go to ESPN and hit Reply Tab.

  117. livealoha December 5, 2015 6:15 pm

Big 10 is absolutely dominating the NCAAs. The Big 10 may make up half go the Sweet 16.

The Pac-12 received way too much favor. USC the only team to punch a ticket into the Sweet 16. No. 14 UCLA is down 2-0 to unseeded Michigan (Big 10) and No. 5 even with unseeded Michigan State (Big 10).

  118. nomu December 5, 2015 6:19 pm

People who post are entitled to their opinions as to the setter. Koelsch does an excellent job coming in “cold”. People feel they need a bigger block with Koelsch. People feel set location is better with Higgins. Imo, I have never seen Koelsch lose any matches for the team. Same for Higgins. The only conclusion anyone can make is that both contributed. One can argue set location being key to a match, or blocking, etc. Both are skill sets. My observation is that the only diss people have about Koelsch is her set location. But, aside from when Higgins was injured, have we ever seen Koelsch start? Or be allowed to stay in a game, despite a few poor set locations? I cannot recall any game being in jeopardy where Koelsch played, so someone correct me on this please. In fact, we will never know what might have happened, because as I recall, Koelsch is subbed out for very quickly. Whatever the reason, that is HC’s decision. I would go so far as to say that no one could make a convincing argument that setting location errors, over the course of this season, have been a major concern with either Koelsch or Higgins. If everyone on this team does not play for and trust each other, it does not matter who the setter is. I am so proud of the team for how they are playing in the tournament. Just my ho.

  119. Maverick December 5, 2015 6:19 pm

  120. MAKA December 5, 2015 6:24 pm

    Mahalo 106, 109, 110.

  121. jmy December 5, 2015 6:30 pm

    Attendance listed at 2080…

  122. warriorfan December 5, 2015 6:41 pm

Beating PSU, serve them super tough and it’s doable, they have setting issues, so the more you make their setter move the better, and also keeps the ball away from their awesome middles.
Tai also has to play better and hope Kalei keeps hitting for a good percentage, Nikki can’t do it all herself at the pins.

Getting excited for next friday’s match, no way Tai will have three bad hitting matches in a row?? Really hope not, we need her to get hot and play like she did against Florida.

To those who want to watch the matches but do not have access to ESPN, some poster on VT, on TAMU vs Hawaii Match string, said that he/she is uploading both matches and will post link once it has been uploaded. I am sure someone will post link on this blog once it is done. Stay tune and see if it is done.

The only complaint I have about the announcers of the TAMU game is how they kept butchering Savannah’s & TMO’s names, lol. It was almost comical how they were stumbling over their words and couldn’t get a complete sentence out every time they mentioned their names.

Congratulations to the Super Bows! Time for the regionals! PLAY SMART, PLAY HARD! GO BOWS!
